Located in the centre of the North German Plain, Berlin is the capital of Germany. Known for its expansive history, refined culture, and abundance of natural beauty, this is one of the most sought-after tourist destinations across Europe. This fascinating city is famous all over the world for the historical concrete barrier, the Berlin Wall. Built in 1961, this wall divided the city into two parts: East Berlin and West Berlin. However, this sturdy structure came down in 1989. Since then, the German capital has been known as one unified region, and that has continued to flourish in every single aspect.

In present times, Berlin hosts the world in such a way that no other place can. Home to a large number of natural wonders, historical monuments, architectural marvels, and plenty of other things, this city enthrals tourists from all over the world.

Best Time to Book Berlin Tour Packages

From plenty of sunshine in summers to breezy drizzles in monsoons and dreamy snowfall in winters, Berlin is a place that experiences several climatic variations. So, no matter what time of the year it is, this place offers an experience that is unique in its own way. However, the most ideal time to explore options for Berlin tour packages from India is from May to September. During this time, the weather remains absolutely perfect for sightseeing and other outdoor activities. Being the peak tourist season for the German capital, this is also the time when you’ll find the best deals on your Berlin holiday package.

Must-Visit Places in Berlin

Being a bustling metropolis, Berlin gives you thousands of options when it comes to deciding how you want to spend your time here. From plenty of iconic landmarks for history buffs to awe-inspiring museums for art enthusiasts, lively dance clubs for party lovers to swanky restaurants for gourmands, there are plenty of choices.

Here is a list of some of the places that are always on the travel itinerary of Berlin holiday packages:

Academy of Arts

Established in 1697 by King Frederick, this is one of the oldest and most prestigious cultural institutes in all of Europe, not just Berlin. Originally named the Prussian Academy of Arts, it got its current name in 1902 after being acquired by the Prussian treasury. This is one of the few buildings that has witnessed several pivotal events in world history, including the bombardment during World War II. Years later, it was divided into two branches, western and eastern, and has been able to preserve a major part of the country’s cultural heritage. Being an excellent example of fine German-style architecture, this iconic structure is a major tourist attraction in the city that you can’t afford to miss.

Berlin Cathedral

Another addition to the list of the oldest architectural structures in Berlin, this cathedral is located on Museum Island, near the banks of the Spree River. The construction of this parish church started in 1465 and stretched until 1903. In all these years, this structure has seen the rise and fall of several empires. The church complex features more than 90 sarcophagi and tombs, each one displaying glorious political and religious moments. Whether you have an interest in history or not, the grandeur of this cathedral will surely leave you spellbound.

Holocaust Memorial

The Holocaust Memorial is another historical landmark telling the story of the darkest period in the world. This structure was built in remembrance of the thousands of Jewish victims of the Nazi genocide during World War II. Covering a large area, this structure features 2771 grey rectangular blocks made of concrete. In addition to this, there is an information office that has preserved the documents, recordings, and biographical details of the Holocaust.

Brandenburg Gate

Constructed between 1788 and 1791, the Brandenburg Gate served as a symbol of German division during the Cold War. Inspired by the entrance to the Acropolis of Athens, this gate was designed by Carl Gotthard Langhans, the main architect of the Prussian court. Measuring 26 metres in height, 65.5 metres in length, and 11 metres in depth, this structure is supported by two rows of six Doric columns. Currently, it is considered a national symbol of peace and unity and among the most-visited tourist attractions in the whole country.

Charlottenburg Palace

Known to be the largest and most magnificent palace in Berlin, Charlottenburg Palace is a fine example of Baroque and Rococo architecture styles. It was built on the order of King Frederick I to serve as the summer residence for Sophia Charlotte of Hanover, his wife and the first Queen consort of Prussia. The construction started in 1695, and the palace officially opened on July 11, 1699. However, the entire complex had gone through a series of transformations over all these years. Currently, it is visited by a large number of people on a daily basis and is hugely popular among tourists.

Top 5 airlines serving from Berlin to India

Our connecting flight was cancelled and it took us 15 hours to reach our destination.

This has been the worst experiencia I have had traveling overall. More than 3 delays, no one answering questions, no one at the AA counter. No one at customer service and after having to change transportation to airport and spend the night at a hotel paid by me, we were delayed inside of aircraft for more than 2 hours!!! Bad experience!!!

Wow! Wonderfully designed, super comfortable, spacious business seats. The food was great and the staff were friendly and attentive. A fabulous experience!

The new Finnair business class is superb! The design is wonderfully innovative and ridiculously comfortable. There is more seat space to lounge and sleep than the usual business class seat. The staff were amazingly attentive and the food was great (hard to say about most airline food!). There was limited toiletries (most of which I don’t use anyway) and no pyjamas for this flight. Everything else was next level. A fabulous experience!

Extremely low quality food. Ordered muslim meals but got vegetarian meals instead. Muslims are not vegetarian, they love meat as much as any other non-vegetarian person, so make a decent effort to get halal meals. Regardless, the vegan sandwich was absolutely tasteless. I am pretty sure the company making that sandwich does not even do a taste test itself

Arriving at Heathrow was a complete disaster because air bridge broke down and it took ages to find spare stairs! Something that I'd kick Heathrow in the shins for, not Finnair - who were great.

Not great. Flight attendants were aloof, food was mediocre, seats that I paid $150 were given to someone else without any concession. I will probably never use kayak again. Terrible experience from start to finish.

The wine was low quality Finnair label stuff in small bottles and only one small bottle each. Embarassinng. A competing airline served me two generous glasses of a nice South African Shiraz from regular wine bottles, a Beck's beer, and a generous Dewar's White Label on the rocks. Cabin service was good and polite, plane interior was beautiful, but cramped.

All good- I love BA and the professionalism of the crew and pilots.

It was listed on my ticket as Finnair but there was no indication that the flight was Finnair. In fact the number was even different. There were no employees there until exactly 2 hours before so we had to wait in line at Iberia and hope

Being a platinum member, no attention given. No towel or tissue provided.

Don't be afraid if you board an Oman Air Airbus A330 - it will take you to Colombo and not Muskat. The Aircraft is leased by Qatar Airways ;-)

No towels or tissue and chocolate and mint provided before arrival

Not good. Expected a lot more as far as excellence.

They made us deliberate waste time by holding our passports and boarding passes making us miss the flight

I had never seen any cabin crews behaving like that. They are not at all professionally fit for this job

Very very poor service. Authorities must take action against this airline immediately. Total failure to follow the rules and regulations of an international airline

There was not enough staff during boarding which had created big problems . Another thing once you enter gate area there’s no way to use bathroom and you have to be in that area 2 hours before boarding which is too much.

Luggage handling was very very bad. Damaged my new Calvin Klein bag and delayed another. Still did not get it since 2 days. Worst airlines and service.

I would advice everybody not to fly by Indigo, no entertainment in flight, rude behavior of staff, worst experience of my life

United failed me in cancelling flight to Chicago. Then put me on American Airlines standby to Miami for onward connection to RMO via IST. Standby failed. They looked me for Sunday morning 24 hours late at this point). Made it to Miami but Turkish airlines cancelled my seats and demanded $1360 to rebook the flights for the following day ! I went to United, spent two hours negotiating with Mr Ruis ? Who said he could do anything for me as he could fix problems that United caused in Miami. He suggested I call the 800 number. When I managed to.get through on my 6th call, I was on hold 2 hours and 30 minutes waiting for an agent when the call was cut off by United phone system. I went back to American. At last a lady , who had zero responsibility in this fiasco, helped me to find a replacement flight that night with Polish airlines to RMO through Warsaw at a cost of $968 including bag charge. I booked it with only a few hours to spare. The lady at American helped to recover and redirect my checked suitcase that had arrived in Miami a day earlier United customer service were awful. United partner Turkish airlines were horrendous and took zero responsibility. I ended up being late to my appointment overseas by 45 hours with zero compensation, no food vouchers, no replacement flights until I found one and paid for it myself. I reporting the entire fiasco to the secretary of state for Tennessee for law violations and refusal to remedy and compensate. I now need help to extend the trip by two days but United are not responding to communications

The flight was delayed dur to which I missed my bus from Chicago to Champaign.

My originating flight by Turkish Airlines was late, so I missed my connecting flight to Dallas I was supposed to pick up a rental car on my arrival and because it was a no show case for this car rental company they cancelled my bookings and charged 368 USD. So because of Turkish Airlines I lost 368 US dollars. Will never fly again with this company.

The crew was amazing. Super polite and welcoming. Excellent communication and service.

Although we had booked seats months in advance, we arrived at the airport with only three seat assignments for our group of eleven because we had not checked in online and the airline had overbooked the flight. The rest of us had to fly standby, which was a pretty tense situation for a while. Ultimately, we were all very grateful to be on the same flight from Istanbul to Izmir.

It was ok. This flight was for my 80 year old grandparents and when they arrived to Beirut no wheelchair (as requested) was waiting for them. My grandpa had to pick up his own luggage, he got soooo tired. No one to help him as we submitted the request ahead of time

It was fine. We will fly Turkish again for sure.

I was in business class, without the business class amenities. Large seat with lots of legroom, but no TV or bed. Food was okay, but I did enjoy the Turkish red wine.

This aircraft is not up to standard - old Airbus with terrible chairs and entertainment system for business class!

The seat did not recline and we called the stewardess, he forced it to recline, but when we landed, it did not come forward because the seat was broken. The stewardess came, He tried to do it but couldn't do it, the flight commander came and spoke to us in a bad tone, telling us to get out of here, she waited at the head and acted as if there was a child and we couldn't get up, it was very shameful, I don't even know if it's true, but she said if you don't get up, the plane will not land and will keep turning around. Then a passenger pushed the seat from behind and it worked. Then we wanted to talk to the supervisor again, but she did not come next to us. We fly so much and this is the first time we encountered such a style.

Crew was excellent. Sat us together after the airline changed our seats. This was the smaller plane/shorter flight so no entertainment or food.

Two things to note here. First, Lufthansa separated me from my small children. Apparently you need to pay extra to ensure that your children are not abandoned. This is different from KLM-Air France, where children sit with their parents automatically, and I usually fly KLM-Air France. I didn't realize Lufthansa was different on this score and is willing to leverage the wellbeing of small children to generate more revenue. Second, my flight arrived 3 hours and 54 minutes late, so I am entitled to financial compensation as per EU passenger rights regulation. From other aspects of Lufthansa's behavior during this trip, I expect that their approach to this is to start a war of attrition with their passengers to avoid giving compensation as much as possible - again, very differently from KLM-Air France. But we'll see, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Lufthansa employees they has to work more with the customers and they delayed the flight for two hours every 20 minutes every 20 minutes every 20 minutes every 20 minutes

Online check in was awesome and so smooth! It was our first time using it. I got to choose seats for free and I paid for our extra bag so easily. Then check in at the airport was a breeze!

The wi-fi wasn’t working on the flight from Munich to Chicago and I’d already paid for two devices before they notified us not to purchase it. I think that should have been mentioned as we checked in or boarded not once we were already on board during the safety brief. The flight attendant stated that we’d get a voucher, but we didn’t receive anything while on the flight, so I don’t know who’s responsible for issuing a voucher or refund.

They delayed the flight multiple times, canceled, and then did not rebook or reserve hotel rooms

Terrible consideration when it comes to connecting flights. We were given 50 minutes to deplane, get through costumes, get through security check. For someone with a heart condition, running miles through the airport was not the best way

Mechanical problems had to be fixed after all the passengers were boarded, and kept on the plane for over close to two hours with no air conditioning. Did not have enough snacks for everyone to distribute. Also, the movie screen did not work and no-one seem to be interested in helping us fix the problem. And the last, two people from our family got severe food poisoning. Arrived Atlanta 4 hours later than estimated 2:35 pm landing time. Deeply disappointed in Lufthansa, since it has been one of our preferable air companies to fly with.

Discover needs to offer better food and drink options in Economy class.

They failed to make sure all luggage made it onto the flight. I had to spend a week on vacation with no clothes.

Our stroller got lost when flying from San Diego to Frankfurt and our luggage got lost when flying back from Frankfurt to San Diego, We had to rent a stroller during our 4 week stay and had to no stroller during our trip back to the US. Our suitcase is also still missing. We sent and email 3 weeks ago and are still waiting for somebody to get back to us.

They ran out of headphones so my 3rd daughter couldn’t use the onboard TV the entire flight. They also rain out of food, so my 1st daughter didn’t get to choose her entrees or snack (chicken or cheese) because by the time they got to the last row they only had chicken left. Luckily she is not a vegetarian.

Staff were uniformly excellent. Padding for premium economy seats was a bit thin. Drinks service was very very good. Food was meh.

Not being able to check my luggage ruined my flight experience with British Airways. I have to spend hundreds of dollars to get my luggage to me.

The seats are uncomfortable and the screens are dated with limited movies to watch.

My bag is still in Munich. There was no communication and then a long line at customer service. I waited for my bag, missing all my trains and had to take a £130 taxi to get home by 2 am.

The flight got delayed. poor food service. Just peanuts for international flight ? Please give coffee, cookies or something else as well. Very disappointed with British Airways.

Luggage handling an response received on lost Luggage, was pathetic

At the airport checkin they didn’t have all the details I’d given during the very time consuming online checkin (very slow site), and they lost my bag….

The staff were so supportive and food was delicious on the flight. Always enjoying flying on BA!

However, as you plan your German getaway, it’s crucial to consider travel insurance. A comprehensive travel insurance policy can provide the peace of mind you need, safeguarding your journey against unexpected disruptions and financial setbacks.

Why travel insurance is crucial for a trip to Germany

Travelling internationally requires meticulous preparation, and Germany is no exception. While meticulous planning can significantly reduce potential issues, it cannot eliminate them. Unexpected events such as medical emergencies, travel delays, or lost baggage can turn a dream trip into a stressful experience. This is where travel insurance comes in.

When travelling from India to Germany, purchasing travel insurance becomes even more critical. With evolving travel restrictions and ongoing global health concerns, having a robust insurance policy can help you navigate unforeseen complications with ease.

Benefits of buying Germany travel insurance

Travelling to Germany, like any international trip, involves a degree of risk and uncertainty. Securing travel insurance is a proactive step to safeguard yourself against unexpected events. Here’s why investing in a comprehensive Germany travel insurance policy is highly beneficial:

How to purchase travel insurance for Germany

Buying travel insurance has never been easier. With online options, you can compare various policies, select the one that meets your needs, and complete the purchase without hassle. There’s no need for extensive paperwork or medical check-ups—just choose the coverage you want, make the payment, and you’re all set.

Essential tips for your trip to Germany

First and foremost, learning a few basic German phrases can greatly enhance your experience. While many Germans are friendly and accommodating to tourists, making an effort to speak their language is always appreciated. Simple greetings like "Guten Tag" (good day), "Danke" (thank you), and "Bitte" (please) can go a long way in fostering positive interactions.

Germany is renowned for its delectable cuisine, so be sure to savour some traditional dishes during your visit. Don’t miss out on classics such as schnitzel, bratwurst, and sauerkraut. And if you’re a beer enthusiast, Germany’s world-famous brews are a must-try—they are considered a national treasure!

Adhering to local customs is important, especially when it comes to traffic rules. Germans are known for their strict observance of laws, so always use crosswalks and wait for the pedestrian signal before crossing streets. Ignoring these rules might attract some disapproving looks from locals.

It’s also wise to carry some cash with you, even though many places accept credit cards. Having cash on hand is useful for small purchases or if you encounter a cash-only establishment.

Germany offers stunning natural landscapes, so take advantage of the opportunity to explore the great outdoors. Whether it’s hiking, biking, or swimming, the country’s picturesque scenery provides ample opportunities for adventure.

Lastly, remember to bring a travel adapter. Germany uses the standard European two-prong plug, so if your devices are from a country with a different electrical system, a travel adapter will be essential.

Trains, for example, are renowned for their precision, and you can expect a high level of organisation in various aspects of daily life. Being prepared for this can help you navigate your trip smoothly and with ease.

Germany: The Indian community in Berlin marked India's 78th Independence Day with a vibrant Bharat Parade at the Brandenburg Gate

Posted: August 12, 2024 | Last updated: August 12, 2024

Berlin, Germany - August 10, 2024 The Indian community in Berlin marked India's 78th Independence Day with a vibrant Bharat Parade at the Brandenburg Gate on August 10, 2024, organized by the Indian Cultural Community Center (INDCC). The event, which began at 10 AM, brought together hundreds of participants in colorful traditional attire, reflecting India's diverse cultures and states. The celebration, aimed at showcasing the unity and diversity of Indian culture, featured a lively array of performances. Participants filled the Pariser Platz with the vibrant colors of India, creating a spectacular display against the historic backdrop of the Brandenburg Gate. Adding to the occasion's significance, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, India's Ambassador to Germany, addressed the gathering. In his speech, Ambassador Harish highlighted the importance of cultural heritage and the strong bilateral ties between India and Germany. Ambassador Harish, who assumed his role in November 2021, brought a wealth of experience from his distinguished diplomatic career, including key roles in economic diplomacy and multilateral relations. Ambassador Harish's speech resonated with the community. He stressed the importance of unity, cultural pride, and the enduring relationship between India and Germany. Interview with Ambassador Harish, Transcript: "For the large, growing community here, it's a happy location to celebrate this with other members of the community. They are very much integrated into the society, but they also have very strong national and patriotic feelings towards India. This is the location for them to bring the two strengths of the cultures of India and Germany together, and it gives them an occasion to celebrate Independence Day here in Berlin. The vast and growing Indian community includes a lot of students, whose numbers are increasing in Germany, so I'm very happy to interact with a lot of young people and students here."
