With a few exceptions, the tour guides were very good. For this price you would want any hotel on the level of a 4 star hotel. If you only stay in a city for one night, it would be very nice if you arrived there by 4 p.m. at the latest so that you can explore the city by yourself.

Our Guide to a Family Vacation in South Korea

Travel+Leisure World's Best Awards 2023 logo in white

Published on: November 16th, 2018

Last modified: July 27th, 2023

South Korea is a fascinating, diverse country that seamlessly blends the old with the new.

Bustling modern-day metropolises sit neatly alongside traditional countryside, and three different seas lap at the nation’s shores. With so much variety, it’s no surprise that South Korea is a great destination for families.

Wander through Busan’s fish market, tour ancient tombs in Gyeonju or discover an underground network of lava tubes on Jeju. This is our experts’ guide on how to make the most of a family vacation.

For foodie families

Cook korean classics.

Korea is a distinctly up and coming destination, earning a well-deserved reputation for its delicious food. In Seoul , kimchi and bibimbap (warm white rice topped with sautéed vegetables, chilli pepper, fermented soybean paste and a raw egg) are top of the menu. Aside from these Korean staples, standout dish bulgogi – literally meaning ‘fire meat’ –  is also worth adding to your repertoire.

Thin marinated strips of beef or pork are stir-fried with vegetables, making for a delicious delicacy. During a hands-on Korean cooking class, cooking enthusiasts are able to watch a demonstration before proceeding to make bulgogi themselves. The best part about this family cooking experience? You’ll be able to feast on your creations once you’ve finished making them.

Wander through Busan’s fish market

South Korea’s second city, Busan , is teeming with both cultural and foodie experiences. In this economic hub, gleaming high-rises fill the sky between lush green mountains, and impressive bridges stand tall over the water. A must-visit in Busan for any seafood lover is the Jagalchi Fish Market; located by the sea across from Yeongdo-gu Island, this a maze of stalls that sell fresh fish, and it’s quite a sight. Wandering through rows upon rows of exotic fish stalls is guaranteed to keep kids entertained for hours. Most of the fishmongers here are women, so they are locally known as Jagalchi Ajumma – often shortened to ‘ajumma’ – meaning middle-aged or married woman in Korean.

To discover South Korea’s history

Gyeongbokgung palace, seoul.

South Korea’s capital, Seoul, is divided into two halves – northern historic ‘Gangbuk’ and modern southern ‘Gangnam.’ The northern half of the city is filled with palaces, impressive temples and various museums. One such wonder is  Gyeongbokgung Palace , dating from 1395 and once the main royal palace in Seoul during the Joseon Dynasty.

The original building was tragically destroyed during the Japanese occupation in 1915 but later restored in 1990. Now, the impressive complex is made up of 330 buildings, including offices for royal and state officials, living quarters and gardens. The palace is a nod to the country’s history and looks distinctly South Korean. It’s a great inclusion on any itinerary for families wanting to learn more about the history of this fascinating land.

Tour tombs in Gyeongju

Once the capital of the Silla kingdom, which ruled much of the Korean peninsula between 57 BC and 935 AD, Gyeongju is one of South Korea’s ancient dynasties. Gyeongju is locally known as the ‘museum without walls,’ so there is plenty of history to uncover here. The Daereungwon Tomb Complex is an intriguing site, where large burial mounds reminiscent of rolling hills house the kings and noblemen of the bygone Silla kingdom. The most famous tomb here, Cheonmachong, was excavated in 1973 when over 11,000 artefacts were discovered surrounding a wooden coffin.

Despite being a burial ground, Daereungwon Tomb Complex is a surprisingly peaceful area to wander through as a family. The oldest existing astronomical observatory in the world is also here, and it’s a magical place for children to explore. Dating from the 7th century, Cheomseongdae Observatory was used to observe the stars and forecast the weather during Queen Seondeok’s reign.

For a cultural family exploration

Visit a korean folk village.

In the heart of Seoul,  Bukchon Hanok Village brings a slice of old world culture to the modern capital. Surrounded by palaces and shrines, Bukchon Hanok Village is home to hundreds of traditional houses called hanoks, dating back to the Joseon dynasty. Today, many of these hanoks have been transformed into cultural centres, guesthouses, restaurants and tea rooms, so visitors can easily be transported to the Korea of 600 years ago.

Experience a hanok stay in Jeonju

Fairly off the beaten track Jeonju is a relatively small city, renowned across South Korea for its food, festivals and historic centre. Almost all of Jeonju’s points of interest can be found in its Hanok Village, where more than 800 preserved traditional houses line cobbled streets. To really experience how Koreans lived hundreds of years ago, adventurous families can opt to stay in a hanok overnight.

jeonju-hanok-village-south-korea

Although hanoks aren’t extravagant, they are pleasant places with in-floor heating, electronic modcons such as TVs and Western-style toilets. Staying in a hanok allows families to fully immerse themselves in Korean culture. During their stay, families can visit the Jeonju Hanji Museum (where you can learn about the traditional process of making paper), artisan boutiques, restaurants and tea shops.

The best of the rest

Meander through jeju island’s caves.

Jeju Island is the largest island off the coast of the Korean peninsula and is a truly ethereal landscape. Dominated by Hallasan, a now dormant volcano, Jeju is characterised by villages built from volcanic rock and a mystical cave system. The Manjanggul Cave is a don’t miss natural wonder and the largest cave in Jeju’s underground system. Kids will love venturing down into the lava tube that stretches on for thousands of metres, as it feels like entering into another kingdom entirely.

manjanggul-cave-jeju-island-south-korea

Once you’re back on high ground, the Cheonjiyeon waterfall is a great spot for families. Meaning ‘sky connected with land,’ Cheonjiyeon’s blue falls blend seamlessly into the expansive sky. Families can cool off after a day exploring the underground cave system by walking along a path through subtropical forest before witnessing the impressive falls flow over a 22 metre (7 foot) drop. No matter where you go on Jeju, the whole island is a natural playground that is perfect for little adventurers.

Get creative on Insa-dong Art Street

Located in the centre of Seoul, Insa-dong is the capital’s creative heart. Once the ancient centre of culture during the 13th – 19th century Joseon Dynasty, the Insa-dong district still lives up to its reputation. Insa-dong art street, showcasing Korean creativity at its finest, is a must-visit street for anyone artistically inclined. Alleys to the side of the main street are brimming with galleries, traditional restaurants, tea houses and cafes. Winding streets filled with kitsch artistic objects are sure to inspire children and adults alike. International chain brands like Starbucks even change their usual signage from English to Korean Hangul, in order to stay in keeping with the quaint ambiance in this district.

Learn more about South Korea

Geograhy and environment.

South Korea is located at the south end of the Korean Peninsula, between the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea. Separated from   Japan   by the Korean Strait and demarcated from the state of North Korea by Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), South Korea's terrain is a mix of flat lowlands and forested mountains. The coasts of South Korea are rocky and jagged, with thousands of islands (mostly inhabitable) scattered off the coastline.

Culture and customs

South Korea draws some traditions and customs from other neighboring countries in Asia, with a culture that stems from Confucianism. This system of philosophical and ethical teachings was introduced to South Korea in the 4 th century through Chinese scholars and was quickly embraced by the wider population until it officially became the state ideology in the early 1900s.

Confucianism emphasizes respect for aging, elders and ancestors, an intrinsic hierarchy that runs through work and social life, and upholds traditional family roles so you’ll often see families living together in one house.

During your travels around South Korea, you’ll also see plenty of traditions such as the act of bowing when greeting people, women wearing traditional dress (hanbok) and the practice of taekwondo (Korean martial arts). As well as ancient beliefs, new generations of South Koreans are embracing a modernized culture, one full of K-pop, Korean cosmetics and popular foods like kimchi and tteokbokki.

History and government

South Korea’s had an often turbulent history dating back to around 8000 BC when it was known as just Korea, but the country’s most impactful conflict began in the 1500s with the attempted Japanese invasion. Korea went on to become a Japanese colony in 1910 following its annexation of the Korean Empire, which ended in 1945 at the conclusion of World War II.

The country was then divided into two parts, the northern part which was protected by the Soviet Union and the southern part which was protected largely by the United States. Both the northern and southern parts of Korea officially became North and South Korea in 1948 when the two regions failed to agree on forming one, united government.

In 1950, North Korea set in motion the Korean War which was intended to unify the two countries under communism. But after much destruction to infrastructure and loss of human life, a cease-fire was called in 1953 with both countries signing the 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement. The two countries have since agreed to work towards a final settlement (The Peace Treaty on the Korean Peninsula) to formally and officially end the Korean War.

South Korea now enjoys a fully prosperous economy with a capital economic standing similar to that of countries such as the United States, Japan, and various countries in Western Europe.

You can’t go to South Korea for shopping and not stop in Seoul – the country’s premier destination for all things fashion, electronics, street food and skincare. In this shopper’s paradise of a city, you’ll find traditional Korean items perfect for souvenirs to tech gadgets not yet available on Australia’s shores.

Some notable districts/destinations where you can shop ‘til you drop include:

  • Myeongdong (shopping district)
  • Dongdaemun Market (shopping center)
  • Cheongdam-dong (luxury boutique area)
  • Pyeonghwa (wholesale market)

Top 5 culinary delicacies of South Korea

1. bibimbap.

As one of Korea's standout dishes, bibimbap is a tasty concoction of meat, vegetables, egg, and rice. Soy sauce, chili paste, garlic, and sesame oil all add flavor to this amazingly colorful dish found everywhere in Korea.

Kimchi is hailed as a nutritional powerhouse - packing a healthy punch of nutrients, vitamins, and beneficial bacteria that makes it one of the world's healthiest superfoods. But most people don't eat these fermented vegetables for health reasons - it's the uniquely, tasty flavor and versatility that makes kimchi so popular in Korean cooking.

These delicious, savory pancakes are a standard of Korean cuisine. With hundreds of different varieties, jeon can be served with red meat, chicken, seafood, vegetables, tofu, and even edible flowers.

Similar to sushi, these highly popular rice-based morsels feature fish, beef, or crab, wrapped in seaweed with pickled or fresh vegetables. Available all over Korea, they are the perfect snack on the run or quick, cheap lunch to enjoy between sightseeing.

Arriving in Korea by the way of Mongolia, mandu are essentially boiled, steamed, or pan-fried dumplings. A cheap, street food favorite, mandu can be filled with everything from pheasant to tofu, cucumber, beef, and beyond. Try out these foods on our 8 day South Korea Real Food Adventure.

One day, enjoy a private excursion to the  Korean Folk Village . Also visit Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in  Suwon , or  Everland , Korea's largest and most popular amusement park.

Next, fly to  Jeju Island , a beautiful volcanic island and popular family vacation destination. Learn about the unique history of the island, and see interesting geological features, including Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak), a volcanic tuff cone and UNESCO World Heritage Site with spectacular views over the sea and rural landscapes below. Also, tour sites such as a Tadao Ando-designed meditation and art complex; the volcanic cliffs of Jusangjeolli; a traditional island village; and Samseonghyeol Shrine, the legendary birthplace of the island's three main clans. Depending on your interests, we can also arrange tours of additional architectural sites designed by Tadao Ando or Jun Itami, a visit to a botanical garden specializing in bonsai, visits to a five-day market or a local fish market, touring of an impressive lava tube (and UNESCO site), or guided hiking on an  oreum  (volcanic cone) or on the slopes of Hallasan, the high volcanic peak at the center of the island. There will also be time to relax at your resort.

Korea with Kids Route

Seoul and Jeju are the two most popular stops in South Korea and most visitors spend at least a week between the two. We travelled all around South Korea and consider these the highlights while travelling in Korea with kids.

The Route:  Seoul – Jeju – Seoul

family tours south korea

If you have longer to spend in Korea, we recommend including some nights in either Gyeongiu or Busan to extend the itinerary

Extended Route:  Seoul – Jeju – Gyeongju/Busan – Seoul

How long to spend in Korea with kids

Depending on how long you have, we recommend at least 8 nights in South Korea with kids. We spent a month travelling through the country and, if you have the time, 6 nights in Seoul and 4 nights in Jeju is ideal. If you have longer to spend in South Korea, Gyeongju or Busan are excellent additions to a Korea with kids itinerary. We visited both and had a lot of fun in both cities.

Best months to visit Korea with kids

When visiting South Korea with kids it is best to plan your visit to coincide with the more moderate weather months! The warm and sunny days that often occur from March to June and September to November make these months a great time to visit South. During the summer, temperatures are consistently high and South Korea enters typhoon season. In winter it’s icy cold.

South Korea with kids itinerary tip:  We visited South Korea at the beginning of October and it was warm and sunny on most days. Typhoon Kong-Rey was in full swing during our trip but luckily we didn’t have any serious concerns or disruptions.

Sim Card and Internet

As with most countries, having mobile data during a trip is invaluable for navigation and research (as well as providing some emergency entertainment to amuse the kids when required!). There are lots of options on arrival at Seoul and Jeju airports – we reserved a KT Olleh 4G sim at Seoul airport through Klook who offer a slightly discounted rate on the airport price –   reserve your Seoul sim card here!

If you have more than one device and don’t want to get separate sim cards you should consider renting a 4G Wifi portable hotspot. They’re great if you need to connect more than just your phone (like the kids tablets) while on the go– click here to order now!

Depending on how long you are spending in Seoul, it’s easy to mix and match and cut days out of our daily itinerary which we’ve detailed below.

There’s plenty to squeeze into 6 days in Seoul and, if you have more time to spend in South Korea, it’s easy to spend more time in Seoul.

Getting from Seoul Incheon:  with a journey time of 43 minutes, the AREX train is the fastest way to get from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station. It’s also easy to grab a cab at the airport. A train ticket is less than US$10 compared to around US$70 for a taxi – check prices now!

Day 1: Palaces and Hanboks

A visit to one of the five Grand Palaces of Seoul while dressed in a colourful Hanbok is a Seoul must do. In fact, the Seoul streets are full of Koreans and tourists visiting its palaces dressed in hanboks! Kids will love the colourful traditional Korean dress and it makes for a fun day in Seoul. As a bonus, entry to the palaces is free when one is dressed in a Hanbok.

Korea with kids itinerary tip:  we used the Klook app to reserve our hanboks and saved almost 50% on the in-store price. There are lots of shops offering hanbok rental in Seoul but we  highly recommend this Hanbok rental store  located in Gyeongbokgung. The location is perfect as it’s close to the Bukchon Hanok Village  and the Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung Palaces. The selection of clothes is extensive – we were able to find awesome hanboks for men, women and kids.

Book your Hanbok now

After renting the Hanboks, Gyeongbokgung Palace is the first stop of the day. It is the biggest of the five grand palaces and was the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty.  Make sure to catch the changing of the guards’ ceremony which takes place at 10am and 2pm at Gwanghwamun, the main gate of Gyeongbokgung.

family tours south korea

From Gyeongbokgung Palace walk to the Bukchon Hanok Village, a traditional Korean village in the heart of Seoul. Its narrow and winding streets are filled with hanoks, the traditional Korean houses which date back to the Joseon Dynasty.

Finish the Hanbok sightseeing with a stop at the Changdeokgung Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and its Secret Garden. Tickets to the Secret Garden need to be purchased separately. Once a haven of relaxation for the Royal Family dating, the lush gardens are wonderful to explore and are home to a lotus pond as well as pavilions and pagodas.

family tours south korea

Korea with kids itinerary tip:  if your first day in Seoul falls on a Monday or Tuesday then switch this day to later in the trip. The Gyeongbokgung Palace is closed on Tuesdays while most of the other historical sites close on Monday.

After returning the hanboks, stop by the ever-popular Insadong neigbourhood for a glimpse into the traditional culture of Korea. The streets are lined with souvenir shops, food stalls and wooden tea houses. Insagdong’s Alive Museum is a really fun place to visit with kids. It’s full of optical illusions and peculiar art. It is totally interactive and the Dynamic Maze is a fantastic challenge for older kids  –  check prices here!

Day 2: Theme Park

South Korea has some incredible theme parks and a visit to a theme park is a must-do when visiting Korea with kids. Seoul is home to two of the best in South Korea: Everland, and Lotte World. All three parks are a great family-friendly option and can be accessed relatively easily from Seoul. We opted for the more toddler-friendly Lotte World which consists of Lotte World Adventure, the biggest indoor amusement park in the world, and the outdoor Magic Island which is located on a man-made lake.

Book your daytrip to Everland now

Make sure to purchase Seoul theme park tickets in advance as they are usually discounted and many offer shuttle buses to transport visitors from the city.

Day 3: Myeongdong and N Seoul Tower

Start the day with a stroll along the arty walkway which runs alongside the Cheonggyecheon Stream. The stream runs for miles through North Seoul and the walkway passes under 22 bridges. Our favourite spot was the umbrella covered plaza close to City Hall and J loved watching the fish and ducks along the way! Spring Tower, the Candlelight Fountain and the stepping stone are also highlights of the walk.

family tours south korea

Aim to exit the stream walk close to Seoul City Hall and make a quick visit to its vertical gardens before grabbing a quick pic at the I Seoul U sign in the adjoining Seoul Plaza.

family tours south korea

Next is Myeongdong, a chaotic and fun neighbourhood filled with quirky shops and great food options.  Kids will love the 2 foot long ice creams, the quirky animal themed cafes, the fun shops and the street food stall along the way. A pic with the giant brown teddy bear at Line Friends is a must as is a wander through Daiso, where everything is priced low.

family tours south korea

Lunch options are plenty but Chimaek, Seoul’s fried chicken and beer staple, is an inevitable winner! We loved BHC in Myeongdong and returned many times to indulge!

family tours south korea

It’s a short jaunt from Myeongdong to the cable car which climbs to the iconic N Seoul Tower atop Namsam Mountain. The N Seoul Tower is one of the most recognisable sights in Seoul and the observatory has fantastic panoramic views over Seoul. There’s also a love locks tree and a Hello Kitty house to visit.

Korea for kids itinerary tip:  If you plan to visit the N Seoul Tower itself, make sure to book you tickets in advance on Klook which has a decent discount on most entry tickets, including N Seoul Tower –  check prices here!

Click here for N Seoul Tower tickets

family tours south korea

Finish up the day with a visit to the Namdaemun Market which is the largest traditional Market in Korea. Wander among the stalls laden with clothes, luggage, accessories, stationery and toys. The food stalls are mouthwateringly good and the Hotteok Stall at Gate 2 is a must visit. The vegetable noodle stuffed pancakes are so popular that the owner is rumoured to be a millionaire.

family tours south korea

Day 4: Nami Island

Located about 90 minutes from Seoul, the picturesque Nami Island is famous for its tree-lined avenues and riverside walks. It’s also the filming location of countless Korean dramas including Winter Sonata. If you visit during April, the cherry blossoms typically come into bloom at the beginning of the month. This is the most popular time to visit Nami Island but it is beautiful in all seasons. Nami Island is accessible by public transport (Gyeongchun Line subway or ITX-Cheongchun and get off at Gapyeong Station and walk/taxi to Nami Island) but the easiest way to visit is by taking a tour from Seoul – check prices here!

Book your Nami Island day tour now

M any visitors to Nami island also stop by Peite France, a lovely quaint little village dotted with colourful buildings, and the beautiful gardens at the Garden of Morning Calm. This tour includes all three locations and also includes the Gangchon Rail Bike experience.

Day 5: Gangham and Lotte World

The Starfield Coex Mall is the perfect place to start Day 5 in Korea with kids! It houses an aquarium, a cinema, pop up stalls and events. When we visited, J loved the Minions pop-up, the BrickLive Lego exhibition and the Coex Aquarium .

family tours south korea

The Starfield Library, located in the mall, is a book lovers dream. Kids will be in awe of the towering shelves, filled to the brim with over 50,000 books. If you visit on a Saturday, there is often children’s entertainment provided.

family tours south korea

Korea with kids itinerary tip: The viral song Gangham Style put South Korea on the map in 2012 and a statue celebrating the artist PSY is located just outside the mall. The kids likely won’t know the song, but adults probably will!

Lotte World Tower

The observation deck at the Lotte World Tower is next on the agenda. It’s the 5th tallest building in the world and the observation deck has 360-degree views of Seoul. The double-decker elevator and the glass-bottomed observation deck are sure to be a hit with kids. Lotte World Tower is included in the Discover Seoul Pass –  check prices here!

Korea with kids tip: The Bongeunsa Temple is located across the street from the mall and the Giant Buddha is a highlight.

Finish the day’s sightseeing with a late afternoon visit to Iwha Mural Village on Mount Naksan. The streets of the village are filled with quirky boutiques and adorned with street art and it’s a colourful and fun place to visit. The ‘I love Seoul’ sign is perfect for a family pic and the angel wings are always popular!

Day 6: DMZ (The Korean Demilitarized Zone)

The DMZ is a fascinating day trip from Seoul. The 4km wide area which runs along the border of North and South Korea was founded at the end of the Korean War. The DMZ is only accessible through a tour. It offers a glimpse into North Korea with stops at the infiltration tunnel, Freedom House (JSA/Panmunjom tour), the Dora Observatory and the Bridge of No Return  –  click here to reserve a DMZ tour

Click here to reserve a DMZ tour

Korea with kids itinerary tip: Visitors can opt for a DMZ tour, a JSA/Panmunjom tour or a tour which covers both. The JSA, known as the Joint Security Area, includes Freedom House, a meeting place between North and South Korea. The JSA is only accessible to children aged 11 or over due to the fact that tourist are not allowed to interact or approach the North Korean side. The DMZ tour is accessible to children of all ages.

Day 7 to 11: Jeju

The island of Jeju is an awesome choice for family travel and there are lots of fun and adventurous things to do in Jeju with kids . The island has incredible natural beauty, a rugged coastline, beautiful waterfalls and quirky museums and parks.

Korea with kids itinerary tip: Jeju is a quick flight from Seoul. We flew with Jin Air but there a few airlines operating on the route. Make sure to book in advance as Jeju to Seoul is the busiest airline route in the world!

Things to do in Jeju with Kids

How to get around in Jeju

Navigating Jeju by rental car is relatively easy and we highly recommend renting a car if you are comfortable driving. The roads are high-quality, driving standards are generally good, fuel is extremely cheap and parking is freely available in most locations. We rented our car through  RentalCars.com  and secured a great price on an Avis rental –  check rental car prices here!

Korea with kids itinerary tip:  An International Driving Permit is mandatory when renting a car in South Korea so make sure to get an IDP in your home country before departure if you are planning on driving a rental car in Jeju

If you prefer, it’s easy to jump on a day tour which generally focus on one part of the island:

  • Eastern Jeju discovery tour – check prices here

Where to Stay in Jeju

There are so many options for places to stay on Jeju that choosing is quite difficult! These are the hotels we recommend:

  • Howard Johnston Hotel Jeju:  We spent a night at the Howard Johnson and found it perfect for a short stay before/after a flight at Jeju International The hotel is centrally located and very close to the airport, with lots of restaurants and facilities within a short walking distance. Parking is also available for free as part of the room rate –   check prices now!
  • Marriott Jeju Shinhwa World Hotels & Resorts:  this incredible resort was one of our favourite hotels in South Korea and was a great base for exploring Jeju. The resort itself is amazing, with stunning rooms, a beautiful pool and an incredible breakfast. Did we mention there is an actual theme park attached to the hotel? –  check prices now!
  • Kensington Jeju Hotel:  located close to Jungmun Beach on the south of the island it’s easy to see why the Kensington Jeju Hotel is one of Jeju’s highest rated hotels. Start the day with a short hike up Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. It is one of the new 7 Wonders of the World and one of the three sites which make up Jeju’s UNESCO World Heritage Listing. It’s also known as Sunrise Peak due to its incredible sunrise views. If you are early risers, you can consider watching the sunrise from its crown. On the way down, make a stop at the viewing platform to try and catch a glimpse of the Jeju haenyeo, Jeju’s traditional women divers.

Korea with kids itinerary tip: the hike from the car park the summit takes about 30 minutes and is a mix of paved paths and wooden stairs. It’s a relatively easy hike for those of average fitness. On colder days, make sure to wrap kids up well as it can get chilly on the exposed trail.

Famous for the yellow canola which bloom during spring, the Seopikoji Coast Walk offers beautiful coastal views. It is a nice, easy walk for kids and nice to include if they have the energy.

Aqua Planet and Maze Land are two great options for an afternoon that kids will love.

Jeju’s Maze Land is home to the world’s longest stone maze and kids will love trying to crack the three mazes. There’s music, lights, a stream and sprinklers during the course of the maze and a viewing observatory gives a fantastic aerial view.

Aqua Planet is the largest aquarium in all of Asia and 50,000 animals and 500 plants live there. Kids will be fascinated by the variety of marine life on display. The stingrays, sharks, seals, penguins and otters were our highlights among the thousands of sea creatures –  buy tickets here!

The final stop is the Manjanggul Lava tubes. The lava tubes are another of the three sites which make up the Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes UNESCO World Heritage Site. Considered one of the finest lava tunnels in the world, one kilometre of the Manjanggul Cave is accessible to visitors.

Korea with kids itinerary tip:  bring a rain jacket into the caves as it can get chilly and wet. The ground is uneven at times and can be slippery so make sure to wear proper footwear and ensure kids mind their step.

Day 8: Jusangjelloi Cliffs, Jungmun Beach, Yeomiji Botanical Gardens and Oedolgae Rock

Today’s itinerary is focused on the South of the island where some of Jeju’s most incredible sights are located within a short drive of each other.

The first stop is the incredible Jusangjelloi Cliffs. The cliffs are comprised of hundreds of hexagonal basalt Oedolgae Rock stone. The columns are visible from the wooden boardwalk which meanders around the cliff and it is an easy walk with kids.

Things to do in Jeju with Kids

If the weather is nice, the golden sands of Jungmun Beach draw lots of families. On wet days, the Yeomiji Botanical Gardens are a great rainy day activity with kids. The gardens are home to thousands of rare plants and flowers and the cactus garden and aquatic garden were our favourite.

Things to do in Jeju with Kids

Later in the day, take to the Olle trail for a relaxing and scenic walk. The Olie trail is a series of trails which stretch across Jeju – our favourite is the section close to Oedolgae Rock. The impressive rock formation towers over the South Sea against the backdrop of the beautiful Bum and Sae Islands.

Things to do in Jeju with Kids

Day 9: Jeonbang Waterfall, Teddy Bear Museum and Mount Hallashan

Jeju has some wonderful waterfalls and Jeongbang, Cheonjiyeon and Cheonjeyeon are three of its most famous. We visited all three but, if you want to visit just one, we recommend Jeongbang Waterfall. The 23-metre tall waterfall is set in a secluded cove surrounded by giant boulders. Kids will love clambering over the rocks and feeling the waterfall spray on their faces!

The Teddy Museum is, unsurprisingly, a museum dedicated to teddy bears! Thousands of teddies from all over the world are displayed throughout the museum. Our highlights were a teddy bear depiction of a scene from Gulliver’s Travels, the smallest teddy in the world and the Vitruvian Teddy, a nod to Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man painting –  check prices here!

Spend the afternoon on South Korea’s tallest mountain, Mount Hallashan. The hiking trails range from a 30-minute jaunt to an epic 5 hour adventure so it’s relatively easy to tailor a Hallashan visit to suit little adventurers.

If you wish to reach the summit and its views of the crater lake you will need to dedicate a full day as two trails are around 5hours each way, We opted for the Yeongsil trail which is 3.7km long and, despite plenty of stairs, is more manageable with kids. The views were spectacular and the scenery lovely.

Korea with kids itinerary tip:  the weather changes fast on Hallashan so make sure to bring warm clothes and rain jackets. If you are using a carrier, make sure to wrap up any infants as they’re colder from not moving around.

Day 10: Jeju Shinhwa World

Jeju Shinhwa World is a huge leisure development on Jeju which includes a theme park and a water park. The theme park has three zones: a steam punked themed zone, an Inca and Mya civilization themed zone and a larva character area. Shinhwa Water Park is the latest addition to the development and has a variety of waves, slides and pools including a 230-meter-high slide – check prices now!

Book your Shinhwa World tickets now

Korea with kids itinerary tip:  when we visited it seemed that development had stalled at Shinhwa World. The theme park was very quiet and the resulting lack of queues made it a lot easier to keep kids entertained!

Day 11: Seogwipo Submarine or Alive Museum and fly to Seoul

For a unique experience, take a morning ride on the Seogwipo Submarine before leaving for Seoul. Although expensive, kids will love the opportunity to board a submarine and descend 40 feet below the sea. There’s a small shipwreck on the route and, depending on the water conditions, it’s often possible to see scores of colourful fish.

The interactive 4D Alive Museum, with its optical illusions and peculiar art, is another great option  –  check prices here!

Day 12: Depart Seoul

Day 12 is a day of leisure until it’s time to depart from Seoul. If you have a free morning consider sights such as the UNESCO World Heritage Jongmyo Shrine or the Seoul Children’s Park.

Getting to Seoul Incheon:  with a journey time of 43 minutes, the AREX train is the fastest way to get to Incheon Airport from Seoul Station. It’s also easy to grab a cab to the airport. A train ticket is less than US$10 compared to around US$70 for a taxi – click here for airport train tickets!

Extending Korea with kids itinerary

We loved Busan, a coastal city with lots of outdoor activities. It’s easily reached from Seoul by train or car. We flew to Jeju from Busan, so it’s easy to incorporate into a Korea with kids itinerary.

Once the capital of the ancient Shilla dynasty, Gyeongju is described as a museum without walls. There are 5 UNESCO World Heritage Sites within the surrounding region.

Is Seoul stroller friendly? Our daughter is about 27lbs, and it looks like you use your carrier a lot. Would you recommend that more?

I guess Seoul is as stroller friendly as most big cities – a bit challenging on the subway and narrow streets but definitely doable. A compact stroller is fine, we used it a lot – in most of the pics where J is in our arms and there’s no carrier then he’s using the stroller!

Hi Elaine, I don’t usually express myself in the internet but I had to make an exception for you. Thank you very much for your great work, your itinerary is so detailed, easy and full of good tips. Definitely it will be my main resource for my trip to South Korea with my boys. Cheers and stay safe, Heloisa

Thanks so much Helosia, that is so lovely to read. Hope you have a fab trip, we hope to return in the next few years!

Lovely blog. Using this to plan our trip to South Korea. Our son will be 7 months at the time of our planned travel. I was wondering what did you pack for your little one. How many diapers did you take? Did you pack formula and other food for the baby? When you travelled to Jeju, did you take all your luggage with you from Seoul?

We were on a 4 month trip through Japan, S Korea, Taiwan, Oman and Turkey so I picked up a lot of things as we traveled. We picked up diapers in the supermarket in Seoul, they were a different brand but worked great. I did bring a ton of food pouches (like Ella’s Kitchen or similar) as my little one had a dairy allergy so we were quite cautious about what he could eat at the time – my mum joined us in the Middle East and I requested another suitcase full! Otherwise we just picked up things in the supermarket. We had a rental car so left most of our luggage (nothing valuable) in the car at the airport when we flew down to Jeju.

Hope that helps, have a great trip! Elaine

Loving your post! How old was your little one when you went to Korea? Also you said you stayed for 1 month. Where else did you travel in that month?

My eldest was almost a year and I was 5 or 6 months pregnant! We went to Seoul, Busan, Jeju, Daejeon and Daegu – we had a rental car so we were able to travel around quite easily.

Dear Elaine,

Thank you for this wonderful post! We are travelling with our 1yo and 3yo kids to South Korea next month – we are all super excited! I was wondering whether you brought a car seat for your kid? Or was it possible to rent one at the airport?

Best, Dorethe from Denmark

I brought one with me, I always travel with one. Have a great trip!

Love your blog, super helpful and informative! Just wondering what your little one slept in the hotels?

We are heading to Seoul next March but a lot of the hotels say they don’t have cots.

Thanks, Sheila

We use the Guava Lotus travel crib – this is it in the link . It’s one of my best travel purchases and my 3 kids have loved it. It’s backpack size so easy to travel with.

Thank you for sharing so much information on your Korea trip. My friend is currently in korea with her 1yo and she mentioned that it is not kids friendly at all as the eateries does not provide baby chair and the food are not kids friendly either. Would like to ask how you find it.

Im still contemplating if i should bring my 14mo baby with me for the Feb trip (very cold weather i heard).

Thank you in advance.

We live in Korea (previously Seoul, now Jeju) and I find Korea to be the kid-friendliest place I’ve ever been. In my experience (our oldest is 2yrs), most restaurants have multiple baby chairs, as well as kids cutlery. We’ve always been welcomed with open arms with our kid, so it probably boils down to how picky you are. As for the food, we don’t feed our kids sugar and are still very low on salt and fat. Still, we eat out at least once a day, and we’ve stopped bringing food along for our 2yo since she was 18 months. For kids below 18m, you may want to prepare something to bring, but this would be my strategy anywhere, not just in Korea. TL;DR Totally visit Korea with your children – they are very welcome and taken care of well.

Hello there,

You advised to get a rental car, however some of the traffic that I remember from the 90s seemed pretty daunting if you were not familiar with driving in Seoul. Is the driving less chaotic these days?

We found the driving fine. We mostly used public transport or walked while in the major cities and tried to avoid arriving into them at peak traffic times but I remember driving across Seoul in rush hour without any issues!

Brilliant advice, thank you. This was a great read!

Itinerary 4: south korea off-the-beaten-path.

  • How Much Does a 10-Day Trip in South Korea Cost

This 10-day itinerary is excellent for a first visit to South Korea. It covers the must-see attractions in Seoul, Busan, Gyeongju, and Jeju Island, as well as a variety of authentic activities to enrich your trip.

  • 3 nights in Seoul
  • 1 night in Gyeongju

Begin your adventure in Seoul. Explore iconic landmarks, such as Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, Myeongdong, and N Seoul Tower with your private guide. Your guide would help you to understand the culture and history of Seoul in a more interesting way.

To fully immerse yourself in Korean cuisine, taste authentic Korean food at Gwangjang Market. You would also have the chance to try your hands at a cooking class in a local home.

Next, head to Gyeongju, the ancient capital with many historic sites. Don't miss experiencing a night's stay at a traditional Hanok hotel. A Hanok hotel usually has 5–15 rooms and they're easily booked up, so you're advised to make a reservation at least 3 months in advance.

Continue your adventure to the seaside city of Busan. You could quickly get a feel for the city's cultural-rich atmosphere at Haedong Yonggung Temple and Gamcheon Culture Village.

Take a short flight to end your journey on Jeju Island. Be amazed by the natural wonders of Manjanggul lava tube, Hallasan Mountain, and Seongsan Ilchulbong (‘Sunrise Peak'). Watch Haenyeo divers catch seafood in a traditional way and enjoy some free time on the beaches. After that, back to Seoul to depart from the country.

Our South Korea travel expert would tailor-made a private tour for you based on your preferences and requirements.

Itinerary 2: for Families with Teenagers

This 10-day South Korea itinerary is suitable for families with teenagers and allows for a relaxing travel pace. It would satisfy your kids' love for K-pop and provides abundant family-friendly experiences. What's more, you don't need to change hotels a lot.

  • 4 nights in Seoul

If you want to see the full view of Busan's coastal line, Songdo Skywalk is a must-visit. We suggest picking the high-end crystal cable car with a glass bottom instead of the regular one. That way, you could enjoy the beautiful sea view of Busan from every angle, feeling like you're walking on air.

Finally, you would fly to Jeju Island and be immersed in its attractive highlights: Seongeup Folk Village, the performance of Haenyeo divers catching seafood, and a sightseeing cruise to watch whales.

Our travel expert would carefully design each private tour to cater to your unique interests and requirements .

With this 10-day South Korea itinerary, you would explore the top two modern cities of Seoul and Busan, and also delve into the profound history of the ancient cities of Andong and Gyeongju.

  • 1 night in Andong
  • 2 nights in Seoul

Your journey through South Korea would begin in Seoul, a capital with a vibrant culture. You would take a leisurely walk in Insadong and Myeongdong, cruise on the Han River, and sample local Korean food at Gwangjang Market.

During your stay in Seoul, you could also consider taking 1–2 days for a day trip to explore nearby cities like Suwon, known for its rich traditions, and Chuncheon, a paradise for outdoor sports.

On day 4, you would head to the birthplace of Korean philosophical culture, Andong. Highlights include seeing a unique mask dance performance at the famous Hahoe Folk Village and creating your mask at Hahoe Mask Museum. With the company and guidance of a local guide, you would gain a deeper understanding of historical stories.

On day 5, travel to Gyeongju to visit the "museum without walls". There are many historical sites with thousands of years of history waiting for you to explore: Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto, and Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond. Don't forget to spend a night at a Korean-style Hanok hotel.

Then, spend 3 days in Busan, where you could wander around Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, experience the fun Songdo Skywalk, and sample the freshest seafood. After that, head back to Seoul to depart from South Korea.

You can just tell us your preferences and requirements, and we will customize a tour for you.

With this 10-day itinerary, you would visit the bustling city of Seoul and explore three off-the-beaten-path cities: Sokcho, Andong, and Suncheon. Immerse yourself in traditional villages and enjoy serene natural views.

To make the most of your time while visiting the attractions, you're recommended to travel in a private car when visiting the three hidden gems of Sokcho, Andong, and Suncheon.

  • 1 night in Sokcho
  • 2 nights in Suncheon

You would start in Seoul. Explore the highlights with a guided tour of Changdeok Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, Jogyesa Temple, the DMZ, and any other attractions that you're interested in.

One of the highlights of this itinerary is the Seoraksan National Park in Sokcho. This is the highest peak near Seoul, featuring strange rocks and rare wildlife. It's a great place for travelers who love adventure and outdoor sports.

The traditional city of Andong is your next stop. Enjoy a unique mask dance performance at Hahoe Folk Village and visit the local Confucius temple and school to gain insights into the culture that has deeply affected Korean history.

Another highlight of this itinerary is Suncheon Bay Wetland Reserve in Suncheon. It's one of the world's top five coastal wetlands. You could take a sightseeing cruise to visit the rare birds with a guide and wander across the wide reeds. Finally, take a private car and return to Seoul to depart South Korea.

If you have other requirements, contact us and we can make it happen.

How Much Does 10 Days in South Korea Cost?

South Korea Is A Total Bucket-List Destination – Here Are 10 Amazing Things To Get Up To

From the busy streets of Seoul to a night spent in a traditional hanok home – it's time to start planning your visit!

Hanifah Rahman

BuzzFeed Staff

I'm Hanifah and I love to travel. South Korea's been on my bucket list for years, but I’d never gotten around to planning the perfect trip.

View this photo on Instagram

So when I got the chance to join Intrepid’s first-ever Essential South Korea trip, I jumped at the opportunity.

As someone who loves a packed schedule but gets overwhelmed when it comes to the actual organising, the trip looked perfect. This isn't just your average holiday – it's an immersive experience packed full of adventures and is the newest addition to Intrepid’s 18-35 trips. The itinerary involves nine days of soaking up a wealthh of South Korean culture, visiting Seoul, Jeonju, Busan, and more.

From trying street food to staying in a traditional historic home, the itinerary is packed to the brim with so many different cultural experiences, and I can’t think of a better way to explore the country in all its glory. If you’re thinking about visiting South Korea and want to make sure you make the most of it, check out everything that’s included in the Essential South Korea trip here.

Top tips before you go!

– To make the inevitable language barrier a little bit easier, I suggest downloading the app Papago for on-the-go translations. Not only does it have pretty good vocal recognition, but you can also take photos of text and have it instantly translated.

– No one expects you to be fluent, but knowing some basics of the language goes a long way. “Annyeonghaseyo” (ahn-nyeong-ha-se-yo) means hello and “gamsahabnida” (kam-sa-ham-ni-da) means thank you. You’re sure to pick up more Korean along your journey, but it’s good to have those basics down.

– It’s likely that the data on your phone won’t work, but there are simple solutions at the airport. You can hire a pocket wifi egg or a data sim card at the arrivals gate.

– When it comes to navigating travel in South Korea, Google Maps has nothing on Naver . It gives you perfect walking directions, as well as the best ways to get to your destination (each subway station has multiple exits, and without Naver, I’d have been totally lost).

– A T-money card makes travelling super convenient. You can pick one up at any 7-Eleven for 3,000 KRW (about $2), and top it up in the subway station as you need. You can use a T-money card to pay for your travel on the bus, subway, and some taxis.

Here are some amazing things to get up to in Korea!

🇰🇷 seoul 🇰🇷, 1. take a step back in time at the historical gyeongbokgung palace.

Traditional Korean ceremony with performers in historical attire carrying flags in front of a palace

A few stops on the subway takes you out of the bustling city and back to quiet of the the 14th century. Built in 1395, Gyeongbokgung is considered to be the most beautiful palace from the Joseon Dynasty, and it’s easy to see why. As soon as we set foot on the grounds I was blown away by the ornate designs, and with families strolling around adorned in traditional hanbok clothing, it wasn’t hard to imagine just how regal the palace was back in its heyday. It’s a good idea to get there by 11 am, which is when the guard changing procession begins, a recreation of the traditional ceremony of the past.

2. Channel your inner idol at a K-Pop dance lesson at FRZM Studio

Group of people practicing a dance routine in a studio setting

In the heart of trendy Hongdae, you’ll find FRZM dance studio , which is home to some of Seoul’s coolest dancers. If you’ve seen even one K-pop video, you’ll know these guys don’t mess around when it comes to choreography, so why not learn from the best? Our teacher Peri was a total star who came prepared with a sleek routine that she somehow managed to break down for us dance newbies. While it didn’t take me long to discover that I don’t, in fact, have what it takes to be a K-Pop star (not even close!), I had so much fun trying to follow along with Peri and her flawless choreography.

3. Eat some delicious traditional food at Gwangjang Market

Variety of Korean side dishes displayed in metal trays at a market

South Korea is famed for its street food, and Gwangjang Market is the perfect place to find out exactly why. As you set foot into the market you’re greeted by an array of glorious flavours, and even though I wasn’t sure what I was smelling, I knew my tastebuds were in for a treat. Whether you fancy traditional fried chicken or soft-shell crab, there are endless stalls offering a plethora of delicious delights. There are so many options to choose from, and most of the stall owners are more than happy to give you a bite or two to sample. The market is also home to traditional goods, groceries, and various souvenirs, so it’s worth taking a look around after you’ve finished stuffing your face.

4. Sing your heart out at karaoke in Hongdae

Person in suit plays video game at event; observers take photos

If you’re looking for nightlife, Hongdae is the place to be – packed to the brim with bars and restaurants ready to welcome you with cocktails and anju (food to eat alongside your drinks), and of course karaoke. In Korean, karaoke is referred to as “noraebang”, which literally means a song room, but I don’t think that definition does it justice. They have endless collections of K pop hits (yes, we did “Gangnam Style”) as well as all the classics, and with the disco ball and lights it really feels like your own private night club.

🇰🇷 Jeonju 🇰🇷

5. spend the night in a traditional hanok village.

Traditional Korean hanok house at night with illuminated windows and outdoor sitting area

Hanoks are traditional Korean houses, dating all the way back to the Joseon dynasty, and to put it plainly, they’re stunning. Historically, hanoks housed entire families, but the ones you can stay in have been transformed into guest houses. As soon as I stepped into the courtyard I was greeted by some friendly village cats , and things just kept getting better from there. While they’ve been updated with modern conveniences, the heart of the homes remains authentic; the wood panelled walls are decorated with traditional Korean art and the bed folds neatly away into the cupboard. As a sleep lover, I wasn’t sure how I’d fare on the futon-like floor mattress, but with the heated floors and tranquil surroundings, I slept like a baby.

6. Take a Kimchi-making class with the Kimchi master

Person preparing kimchi with ingredients on table

Kimchi is a staple of the Korean diet, and if you’ve had it before, you’ll know why. We joined Kim Myeong Ok – a total kimchi genius – to learn all about what goes into making the traditional food. After finding out the many seasonings that go into the dish (and snacking on the pickled cabbage, of course), we jumped straight into TV chef mode, determined to be the best rookie kimchi makers we could. Myeong talked us through the marinating process, and with our aprons and long gloves, we really got into the technique. Once you’re finished, you can pack it all up to enjoy eating back home – it’s the perfect holiday souvenir.

7. Visit the ancient ruins of Webosansung

Stone archway and pathway in a historical outdoor setting

This historic mountain fortress was built in the 17th century, as a way to help evacuate and protect residents in the late Joseon Dynasty. The wall is over eight thousand years old, and it’s surrounded by miles and miles of forest hills – it really feels like taking a stroll in the past. It’s not too far from Awon Museum, which is located across three 250-year-old hanoks that overlook a mountain village; their stunning gardens have some spectacular views.

8. Get a body scrub at The Hanok Spa

Exterior view of a building with signs, a person with backpack standing in front, parked cars visible

This might look like an unsuspecting tower block, but inside is a menagerie of pampering and self care. If I’m being honest, I was a bit intimidated when I first approached the spa – I knew I’d have to strip off, but not much more. This 24 hour spa is really popular with the locals, and while there was a bit of a language barrier, the staff there were super friendly. There are heated pools to rest and relax in, and it didn’t take long for me to feel at home among the older ladies chatting away and watching TV. As a dedicated exfoliator, I wasn’t expecting too much from the body scrub, but boy was I wrong – I could literally see my dead skin getting sloughed off. I left the spa feeling like a soft little peach, and I couldn’t recommend it more.

🇰🇷 Busan 🇰🇷

9. watch the waves at haedong yonggungsa temple.

Traditional temple by the sea with connecting arched bridges and rocky landscape

Set right on the shoreline, Haedong Yonggungsa Temple is a wonder of both natural and historical beauty. First built in 1376, the Buddhist temple is a place of reflection and peace, and it's truly breathtaking.  As I walked down the temple’s 108 steps, I was blown away by the picturesque views surrounding me – intricately designed architecture, ethereal statues, and gorgeous stone lanterns, to name a few delights. I loved learning about the historical Buddhist traditions and symbolism, but my favourite part was the tranquil backdrop of crashing waves. There are lots of temples to visit, but none as unique as this one.

10. Take a stroll through the stunning Gamcheon Culture Village

Densely packed houses in varying sizes on a hillside, no people visible

With its twisting alleys and colourful houses, Gamcheon Culture Village feels like a storybook come to life. Decorated by professional artists, art students, and residents, it’s easy to see why the village is one of Busan’s most popular tourist spots. While strolling through the lovingly adorned streets, we were met with tons of artisan shops selling stunning handmade trinkets and some wonderful art installations. BTS fans: keep an eye out for the Jimin and Jungkook mural, it’s really something to behold.

With family in tow, Korea's Byeong Hun An intends to enjoy Masters return

Korea’s Byeong Hun An will make his fifth Masters appearance at revered Augusta National, and a first since 2020, but the drive down Magnolia Lane will be very different and feel extra special this week.

It will probably be a bit noisier as well in his courtesy car, with a growing family in tow.

The 32-year-old An qualified for the season’s first major through the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking as of last week, which marked his second straight major appearance after he played his way into The Open Championship last summer.

Lining up alongside the game’s elite reflects his resurgence following a mini-slump that saw him lose his PGA TOUR card in 2021.

“It is good to be back," An said. "I have never been to the Masters with my kids and wife, and it will be my first time with them which makes it even better. I wish to put up a good showing. It is never easy going into the Masters but I feel great,” said An, who is presently ranked 44 th in the world.

When An made his Masters debut in 2010 as the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, he was wet behind the ears and 14 years on, this week will herald his 190th PGA TOUR start where he has amassed 25 career top-10s, including three this season which has propelled him to seventh place in the FedExCup points list.

Byeong Hun An holes a 43-foot birdie putt at Arnold Palmer

With his wife Jamie, their lives now include two young children, Sunwoo, who is 4, and Jiwoo who turned 1 last month. The growing family means that An is excited for the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday, a Masters tradition unlike any other where players and their families get to be part of the fun-filled competition. Jamie will caddie for An, while Sunwoo, who is learning to play golf, may well attempt a shot during the event.

“Family life’s been great,” An said. “It takes your mind away from golf. After tournaments, you go back and you have kids around, you don’t have time to think about golf. Obviously, when you’re at a golf course, you want to think about golf, you want to work hard. It’s nice to have their support. It’s the best. When the family is around, there are more things to do. You go out for a walk, play with the kids or whatever. It takes the mind away from golf.”

His new approach to life, and towards the game, has largely been instilled by swing coach, Sean Foley whom An labeled “the Gandhi of golf.”

“He helps a lot with things away from golf," said An. "He talks about other stuff, and not just how to play. There are some things which are unteachable by other people, and he’s been a big help. I have lessons with him twice a week and we hit balls for two hours and I’ll probably hit like only 100 balls, and we talk for an hour and a half about other stuff.”

While An has yet to win on the PGA TOUR – he has five career runner-up finishes including a playoff loss at the Sony Open in Hawaii in January – the Korean knows that lining up along the stars at Augusta National is a privilege to cherish: “I have never seen a golf course managed so well like Augusta National," he mused. "With their own traditions, there definitely is some wonderful atmosphere. Every golfer dreams of playing in the Masters, so I feel great to go back.

“It is very special to us, golfers. I’m glad to be part of this but I don’t want to put pressure on myself. I will prepare just as other events. The focus is the same.”

An, whose best finish from four previous starts was T33 in 2017, will have compatriots Sungjae Im, who finished runner-up at the Masters in 2020, Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim for company at the 88 th playing of the Masters. It will also be a memorable week for Si Woo who will have his newborn son, Theo, in attendance with his wife and former Korean LPGA winner, Jihyun – who hit a shot at the Par 3 Contest last year.

“I was able to participate with my wife last year, and this year, we have one more member to the family. It will be an enjoyable week for the three of us,” said Si Woo, who is a four-time PGA TOUR winner and making his eighth consecutive Masters start.

He enters the week in good form, having not missed a single cut all season with one top-10 to go with five other top-25s.

“I'm pretty confident going into the week," said Si Woo. "Thinking back to my first Masters (in 2017 which was the only year he missed the cut), the course was tough. But as this year is my eighth, I feel a bit more relaxed as I am getting used to the golf course."
