Myself and my very wonderful girlfriend had a very unforgettable night... It was just fantastic, the Shires are just a pure fantactic band... They are just fantasic live....and Chrissie's voice is just pure class.... And Ben's voice is magical... They are just both pure class together... Really loved the night... What a concert...

A first for me seeing The Shires, I was really looking forward to seeing the support Carrie Underwood. As I’d been told they were good while at a Ward Thomas gig earlier this year. They didn’t disappoint a great performance. I have just ordered their album on the back of last night and will keep an eye out for other shows.

I really enjoyed The Shires concert, they have a lovely harmony between their voices and write good songs. With more experience and material they deserve concerts of their own. My only small criticism is she tried to get the audience 'going' to early, they should just play a number of songs first.

The Shires put on a brilliant show.

The Sound of the Sirens were a great opening act.

The Chepstow Castle venue was good but too many people crowded in, too little food and inadequate toilet facilities for such a big crowd.

The UK’s best-selling country act The Shires have announced their eagerly awaited forthcoming album ‘Good Years’. They will be joined on their tour by hit songwriter and dynamic performer Eric Paslay. 

The title of the group’s newest record couldn’t ring truer for Ben and Crissie as the release follows two gold-certified albums and three Top 10 singles firmly cementing their status as two of country music’s most prominent voices.

The band’s new music coincides with the announcement of a UK tour which will see the duo play the likes of the London Palladium, Bristol Academy, Birmingham’s Symphony Hall and Brighton’s Dome alongside the show at York Barbican.

As with all their albums ‘Good Years’ was recorded in the home of Country Music, Nashville. It is a poignant project for Crissie and Ben now having made huge waves both on home soil and across the pond as the first UK artists to win ‘Best International Act’ at the prestigious CMAs.

Speaking on the release of their latest single and the new album Crissie and Ben said; “We are so excited to be releasing ‘Good Years’, our 4th album recorded in Nashville and also announce our next UK tour!  Honesty and storytelling have always been such an important part of our songwriting. We’ve poured some of the incredible experiences and life we’ve lived into these songs."

Before they became The Shires, singer-songwriters Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes had met a series of dead-ends – now they’re the UK’s most successful country music export, with four top 10 albums and hundreds of thousands of tickets sold around the world.  

The fact that Nashville has embraced The Shires with open arms – from a record deal to a history-making award from the American Country Music Association – is testament to the duo’s authenticity. Debut single “Nashville Grey Skies,” a playful song about Britain needing its own country scene, caught the attention of broadcasting legend Bob Harris in 2014.

Achieving a place on the BBC Radio 2 A list, its soaring harmonies and uplifting sound offered an early glimpse at the alchemy that transpires when Earle and Rhodes join forces. Career milestones followed like pieces of a jigsaw fitting into place: supporting slots with Little Big Town, The Corrs, and Carrie Underwood (during her Cry Pretty UK tour), playing C2C Festival, a sold-out headline tour and the release of their spectacular debut album,Brave,which became the first-ever top 10 album by a UK country music act.

Another three top 10 albums followed: 2016’sMy Universe(featuring fan-favourite “Daddy’s Little Girl”, about Rhodes’s late father), 2018’sAccidentally on Purpose,and 2020’sGood Years,each one soaring to No 3 in the UK.  

As it did for so many, 2020 brought fresh challenges. In between the bread-baking and home-schooling, he found himself in his home studio, rediscovering some of the songwriter identity he’d lost amid so many fruitful collaborations over the years. The result is immediately apparent onTen Year Plan– The Shires’ fifth album, and one of the most enthralling, soul-stirring country albums of 2022.

The Shires, Eric Paslay & Kezia Gill in Torquay, UK live review

On the last Thursday night in April, UK country fans had at least THREE music venues to choose from: city, beach or sofa (for Bob Harris’ BBC Radio 2 show). I found myself an hour away from home at the Torquay seaside of Devon’s English Riviera to see home grown British country act The Shires whilst upwards of 3000 people turned up to see Keith Urban in Birmingham 

The added benefit of attending a small town show is that you can bump into the artists, like  Eric Paslay  pottering around town with a camera. Thanks for the picks, Eric!

Also supporting The Shires on tour was vocal-powerhouse Kezia Gill .  Three amazing country acts on one stage?  This mini festival was the only choice for me, regardless of journey time. 

First up on stage at 7:30pm was Derby lass Kezia, opening with fan-favourite ‘Country Song’, which always makes me want to go to Nashville to be invited to dance (as if I need an excuse). Kezia quickly realised not a lot of people knew who she was, but her natural charm, generosity – and, yes, northern humour – ensured her twenty-five minute set rightly earned her a few more fans.  I literally couldn’t get to her at her merch table after her set, where she made two sold-out appearances.  Great craic with the crowd, particularly during her performance of ‘Thirties’ when we all realised she was possibly one of the youngest in the room of 1500.  Kezia finished her set with an incredible performance of BCMA UK Song of the Year ‘I’m Here’, reminding me to reach out to friends I perhaps haven’t seen for a while. 

Just a few minutes later, at 8pm, Nashville songwriter, Eric Paslay, stepped onto the stage of Torquay’s Princess Theatre, opening his forty-five minute set with ‘Angel Eyes’, from his latest album, Even If It Breaks Your Barefoot Friday Night (apparently, you could own a piece of this unique album; read Eric’s  NTF discussion with EF Country ) which already has number ones alongside Grammy and ACM-nominated hits; a brilliant way to provide a Greatest Hits album. 

Paslay cast cultural observations into the crowd about water towers and tailgates in ‘Song About a Girl’.  There’s a reason Eric is an award-winning songwriter; keen appreciation of a lyric.  You only have to consider the final three lines of ACM-nominated ‘She Don’t Love You’ to fall in love with lyrics.   

Irish band U2 turned up in a medley of ‘Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’ and Paslay’s 2011 number one for Jake Owen, ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night’.  

Highlight of the night was hearing Paslay share his story of texting Keith Urban when he realised they were both performing in the UK on the same night.  He then launched into the ‘Wild Hearts’ song he co-wrote, which would be played an hour or so later in Birmingham, by Urban.   EF Country shared the videos  on Twitter, of course, for our gorgeous country-loving audience.  

The best quote of Paslay’s set was definitely hearing him say he, “loves having an accent again”.  

AbsoPaslaylutely; what a night of live music. Thank you for travelling to the UK. 

There was just enough time for a quick stage turnaround, otherwise known as crowd-around-a-beaming-Kezia, at her merch table, before The Shires’ show.

When Chrissie and Ben took to the stage, just after nine, I was so giddy I forgot to list the first song.  I do know that all 1490+ audience members took to their feet for a good half an hour, which included ‘My Universe’, ‘Friday Night’ and the Paslay co-write from their new (and fifth number one UK Country album),  Ten Year Plan , ‘A Bar Without You’.

Phone-torches illuminated the theatre for the beautiful ‘I See Stars’, strengthening a clear love between artists and audience.  

Ben, Chrissie and the band (Olly, Charles, Rich and Thomas – thanks to Amanda in  The Shires Fan Group on Facebook , for helping my memory out!) played songs from all five albums.  Does anyone else think that ‘Side by Side’, from 10 Year Plan, could easily compete with wedding first-dance favourite, ‘I Just Wanna Love You’ from their 2015 debut album, Brave?  

The almost final song of the night, ‘Tonight’, gave us a chance to participate on foregound vocals with either Ben’s  oh-oh-ohs  or Chrissie’s  your mine/I’m yours , depending on which side of the theatre we were sat (I was #teamChrissie).  I’ve never noticed before, but it was a great opportunity for us to  oh-oh-oh  The Shires back to the stage for an encore, instead of the usually foot stamping I normally hear at gigs, which was a beautiful moment of live music and crowd reaction. 

An earlier technical problem meant a song had been missed from the set list, so the Torquay encore was:

LIVE REVIEW: The Shires @ O2 Academy Bristol

Currently on a huge headline tour of the UK in support of their outstanding fifth studio album ’10 Year Plan’, British record-making country-pop duo The Shires last night (Sunday, May 1st) brought their energetic live show to the city of Bristol for a sold-out showcase at the O2 Academy venue.

Supported by the fantastically talented Brit performer Kezia Gill and US singer/songwriter sensation Eric Paslay The Shires ensured the packed crowd were treated to two tremendous live performances from a couple of country music’s most exciting talent before the main event started in the late evening.

The British pop-country act never fail to impress with their fantastic, high-tempo live shows and last night was no different as they rattled through some of their biggest hits to date including the likes of ‘Black and White’, ‘All Over Again’, ‘Nashville Grey Skies’, ‘I See Stars’, and ‘Guilty’.

There is something truly special about the connection Ben and Crissie have with their fanbase and they bring a spark of pure love that creates a bond between everyone in attendance and the Bristol gig had an air of magic, especially on the sombre ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’, and encore anthems ‘Wild Hearts’ and ‘A Thousand Hallelujiahs’,

Having seen The Shires live throughout the years at multiple size venues this tour is definitely a step-up from them, they know their worth and they command the stage like never before. The audience laps up their performance as they deliver a dazzling concert that will live long in the memory.

The UK’s biggest country music export The Shires have announced an intimate acoustic tour for 2024. The two of us tour will see Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes tour the length and breadth of the UK performing all their classic tracks. Tickets go on sale Friday 15th December at 10am via HERE.

The Shires achievements speak for themselves: three consecutive UK Top 3 albums, four #1 UK Country albums, 100 million+ streams, two Gold-certified records, and countless sold-out headline shows, including filling the prestigious Royal Albert Hall.

The Shires first broke through in 2014 with their single ‘Nashville Grey Skies’, a playful song about Britain needing its own country scene. And that’s something which they helped happen, starting with their 2015 debut ‘Brave’, which became the first ever Top 10 album by a UK country music artist. That success continued with a succession of hit albums: 2016’s ‘My Universe’, 2018’s ‘Accidentally On Purpose’, 2020’s ‘Good Years’ and 2022’s ‘10 Year Plan’.

Their authenticity saw them embraced by the Nashville scene immediately, leading to two CMA Awards, touring highlights including C2C Festival and shows as guests to Carrie Underwood, Little Big Town, The Corrs and more.

The Margins Café serves delicious, freshly prepared food at gigs and events.  All profits go towards  The Margins Project , based here at the Chapel which works with people who face issues of homelessness and crisis.

The venue is seating only. All seats are unreserved and are taken on a first come first serve basis. Please arrive early before event door times if you have preferred seats. Due to the nature of our venue, please be prepared to queue for entry.

The venue is fully accessible, with use of ramps and the upstairs bar is accessible with use of a platform lift. Please email  [email protected]  with your accessibility requirements as soon as you purchase your ticket.

The bar is located on the first floor of the venue and will be open from the stated door time and remain open after the show.

Alcohol consumption will be limited to the bar area only, it is not permitted to take alcohol to the main chapel space.  An array of soft drinks and snacks will also be available and are permitted in the main space. (Please note, no food or drink may be brought from outside into the venue. Water bottles must be emptied before entering the venue, with refilling stations available inside).

The Shires Postpone Tour Until 2022

For those of you who love The Shires as much as we do, I’m afraid you’re going to need to be a little more patience – something we’ve all had to get used to during the pandemic.

The 2021 tour has now been postponed until 2022. The 2022 tour dates are as follows:

• April 23rd 2022 – Cardiff
• April 25th 2022 – Brighton
• April 28th 2022 – Torquay
• April 30th 2022 – Stoke on Trent
• May 1st 2022 – Bristol
• May 4th 2022 – Carlisle
• May 6th 2022 – York
• May 8th 2022 – Edinburgh
• May 9th 2022 – Aberdeen
• May 11th 2022 – Lincoln
• May 12 2022 – Folkestone
• May 13th 2022 – Bedford
• May 15th 2022 – Cambridge
• May 16th 2022 – Manchester
• May 17th 2022 – Birmingham
• May 19th 2022 – Oxford
• May 20th 2022 – Guildford

This is probably a very wise move considering the uncertainty we all face (at this time of writing). I can only try and imagine the logistics of venues trying to rearrange dates for so many artists with conflicting schedules!

This means we get to enjoy the build up to Ben and Crissie’s next shows across the country a little while longer.

The Shires started their career back in 2013 and it didn’t take long for them to start being noticed in what was at the time a relatively untapped UK Country market. The UK Country was waiting to go mainstream. The UK Country scene was literally waiting for The Shires.

Country 2 Country starting in the UK coincided with The Shires humble beginnings. What great timing for the pair. The Country 2 Country festival brings the top name country music stars over from the US for a weekend of country music the likes of the UK are rarely able to see. Radio 2 saw the potential and the story and featured them as part of Bob Harris’ regular country music coverage.

The success of their appearance on Radio 2 gave them a huge boost and together with their amazing songs gave the UK their first mainstream UK Country act. Tours followed as well as their first album Brave (which we played to the point of wearing out our Spotify copy!).

With a second album coming along two years later, as well as the prestigious spot of hosting the C2C Country Music Festival in London – their awareness and following just simply exploded.

After becoming the UK Country act to achieve a mainstream Top 10 album their success has grew and grew taking them in to Nashville and in to our hearts.

Kentucky Derby payouts 2024: Complete betting results after Mystik Dan's win

Mystik Dan won the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday in a photo finish, earning a hefty $3.1 million prize for its owners — a sizeable increase on what last year's winner, Mage , earned thanks to a record $5 million purse.

Mystik Dan, who crossed the wire in 2:03.34 to win by a nose, also (presumably) won some money for bettors out there. The horse, ridden by jockey Brian Hernandez Jr., went off at 18-1 odds.
