Cape Liberty cruise port: A guide to cruising from New Jersey

Melissa Klurman

The first thing you'll notice about the Cape Liberty cruise port is the views: Situated on the Hudson River in New Jersey across from New York City, the port has spectacular skyline panoramas of Manhattan and unimpeded views of the Statue of Liberty. In fact, sailing out of Cape Liberty will bring you face-to-face (OK, face-to-toes) with Lady Liberty when you sail through the harbor.

Cape Liberty is a hub for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. From here, ships from those two lines sail to the Bahamas , Bermuda , Caribbean , Canada and New England and beyond.

Note that although Cape Liberty is often referred to as "New York" on some cruise-selling websites, it is squarely on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River, in Bayonne. (It's a quirk of the region that many popular things in New Jersey are labeled as "New York" — for example, both the New York Jets and the New York Giants play their home games at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey.)

Although Cape Liberty is the ideal place to set sail from if you're already based in the nearby Tri-State region (New York/New Jersey/Connecticut), Pennsylvania or other East Coast locations, the port is also easy to get to from Newark International Airport (EWR) just 10 miles away. Fly in early and you'll find plenty of points hotels for a pre- or postcruise stay nearby, too.

Plus, you'll be just across the Hudson River from New York City , making it easy to add a visit to the Big Apple to your cruise itinerary.

Airports near Cape Liberty cruise port

carnival cruise in new jersey

Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is the closest airport to the Cape Liberty cruise port. It's 10 miles away and about a 20-minute drive, depending on traffic.

While LaGuardia Airport (LGA) is 22 miles away and John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is 32 miles from Bayonne, the ride to Cape Liberty cruise port will take a minimum of one hour, and possibly up to two hours, from either airport depending on traffic, since you'll need to either traverse or circumnavigate Manhattan.

There is no direct public transportation from any of the three area airports to the cruise port.

EWR is a United Airlines hub and offers a plethora of flights from around the country on the carrier into Newark daily. Other domestic carriers that fly into EWR are Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue, Sun Country and Spirit Airlines.

If you want to fly with Southwest, you will have to choose LGA, since the carrier consolidated all of its New York City gates at that airport. Other domestic airlines at LGA are Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue, Spirit, United Airlines and the American Shuttle.

JFK is the farthest airport from Bayonne and Cape Liberty, but it has the largest number of carriers, 70 in all, and is a hub for both American and Delta. Other domestic carriers are Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue, Sun Country Airlines and WestJet.

Since outbound flight times don't always line up perfectly with your cruise line's disembarkation time, you might find yourself with time to kill at the airport, so make sure you carry a credit card with airport lounge access as a benefit. For EWR, it's especially helpful to carry a United branded card that offers lounge access: Since United is terminal C's sole occupant, the lounge options are limited to United Clubs and the Polaris Lounge . The other domestic terminal, A, offers a Delta Lounge as well as an AA Admiral's Club. The airport does not have any lounges accessible with Priority Pass .

How to get to the Cape Liberty cruise port

carnival cruise in new jersey

Whether you're coming to the cruise port from the airport or a nearby hotel, you'll find several transportation options available. What you won't find are cruise-line-organized shuttles from the airport to the Cape Liberty cruise port.

Hotel shuttles

A few select Hilton hotels near EWR offer free shuttle service to the port. Note, however, that overnight parking at these hotels will incur a fee.

Limos and private car transfers

There are myriad options for limos and private cars in the New York/New Jersey metro area. One of the most popular and easiest to remember is the Dial 7 car and limousine service, the number for which is 1-212-777-7777.

Blacklane is another good option for private transfers. Expect to pay between $130 from EWR to around $330 from JFK for a private car or limousine transfer.

Taxis and ride-hailing services

Hailing a taxi to take you to Cape Liberty from EWR is simple. Taxi stands are on the arrival (ground) level of the airport (outside baggage claim).

You'll pay by the meter. The rate is $4 for the first 1/8 mile then $0.65 for each additional 1/8 mile. Waiting time is $0.65 per minute. There's a $1 per bag surcharge for luggage put in the trunk and a $1.75 fee for originating from the airport. The average fare from Newark Airport to the Cape Liberty cruise port is $40.

Ride-hailing services such as Uber and Lyft are also an option.

UberX can run around $25 to $35, and UberXL around $35 to $45, depending on the time of day. Premier and Premier SUV cars can run around $75 to $90. All prices can vary during traffic or high-demand times. The Uber/Lyft ride from LGA or JFK will be much more expensive due both to distance and interstate tolls (about $40): Expect prices starting at $120 for UberX and $150 for UberXL.

Public transportation

A few forms of public transportation in New Jersey run to Bayonne, but none will get you closer than 2 miles from the cruise port.

NJ Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and PATH: Traveling from Jersey City or Hoboken, New Jersey, take the light rail to the 34th Street stop in Bayonne. One-way tickets are $2.25. After you disembark, you will need to call a cab/Uber/Lyft to take you the last 2 miles to the cruise port. If you are coming from New York City, take the PATH train that runs from New York to Jersey City and Hoboken (also $2.25) and then connect to the light rail.

Bus: From the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City, take the NJ Transit 119 bus to Bayonne. Tickets cost $6. The bus travels along Kennedy Boulevard in Bayonne and stops on request every three blocks. The closest point to the cruise port is 33rd Street and Kennedy Boulevard. From here, you can either call a Bayonne cab company or get an Uber/Lyft to drive you to the cruise port, which is about three miles east of Kennedy Boulevard.

Cape Liberty cruise port parking

On-site parking.

Cruisers can find ample, on-site parking at Cape Liberty adjacent to the terminal. No reservations are necessary, and parking is guaranteed. Parking fees are $30 per day, including tax.

Park-and-cruise

Park2Go (Cape Liberty Cruise Port) offers parking in an indoor valet garage for $20 a day and in an outdoor valet lot for $18. A free shuttle service runs to and from Cape Liberty every 30 to 45 minutes from 6 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. seven days a week. Reservations should be made on the website prior to arrival.

The Port of New York and New Jersey occupies a large area in New York Harbor, encompassing the coastline within a 25-mi/40-km radius of the Liberty Statue. The Port (locode USNYC) has a total of three cruise ports - two in NYC (New York) and one in Bayonne (New Jersey). These ports have separate passenger terminals and docking infrastructure.

In New York City are the New York Passenger Ship Terminal (Manhattan Island's western coast, Hudson River) and Brooklyn Cruise Terminal (~6 mi / 10 km to the south, on eastern Upper New York Bay, Buttermilk Channel, Brooklyn's Red Hook waterline).

Cape Liberty Cruise Port (part of Port Jersey) is also in New York Harbor (Upper NY Bay, fka MOTBY/Military Ocean Terminal at Bayonne) but is part of Bayonne NJ.

IMPORTANT : Bayonne New Jersey Port's cruise terminal serves Royal Caribbean Group/RCG-owned ships from the fleets of RCG's subsidiaries RCI-Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises . The ships of RCG's subsidiary Silversea dock at NYC's Manhattan Terminal.

The Port of NY and NJ is also a district of the New York-Newark NJ Metro (part of the Greater New York (ranked the world's largest Metro by population/~24 million). New York Metro is a Tri-State region grouping 23 counties (13 in NY, 9 in NJ, and 1 in Pennsylvania/Pike County PA).

By annual cruise ship passenger traffic, Port NY and NJ's terminals are currently ranked the USA's 6th and the world's 16th busiest.

Cape Liberty Cruise Port (Bayonne)

Cape Liberty is an exclusive cruise port in New Jersey (Bayonne Harbor) featuring a 2 mi/3,2 km long dock/pier and a passenger terminal. Port Cape Liberty was inaugurated in May 2004.

Form Bayonne, Royal Caribbean-owned ships operate mainly roundtrip itineraries visiting destinations in the Caribbean (including Florida and The Bahamas) and Bermuda.

In the autumn are operated one-way "Fall Foliage" themed voyages to ports in Canada and New England USA.

On seasonal relocation (RepositionCruises.com) are often offered Transatlantic crossings between NYC-NJ and Europe (Mediterranean) and the UK ( Southampton ).

Cape Liberty is a convenient homeport for sea voyages because most of the tourists arrive by flight, and the cruise port is in close proximity (approx 10 mi/16 km to the east-southeast) to Newark Airport (around 40 minutes drive distance via Highway I-78E).

The Port's main tenant is RCI-Royal Caribbean International , which homeporting/turnaround operations from New Jersey started in May 2006 with Freedom of the Seas . In 2015, RCI's second QUANTUM-class vessel Anthem of the Seas was also homeported in Cape Liberty, replacing Liberty of the Seas .

In 2016, Cape Liberty reported a record number of handled cruise passengers - 509,306, which was 2,4% increase over 2015's 497,780 passengers.

RCI's roundtrips from Bayonne NJ are operated the whole year round. Cruise itinerary lengths vary between 5-12 nights. During summer, Celebrity Cruises also homeports one vessel at Cape Liberty. In 2023, in Bayonne were homeported RCI's ships Oasis OTS , Anthem OTS, Liberty OTS, and Jewel OTS , as well as Celebrity Summit . The Port's schedule 2024 listed the liners Anthem OTS, Liberty OTS, Symphony OTS , Odyssey OTS , and Celebrity Eclipse .

In October 2018, Bayonne City officials selected the company SeaStreak Ferry (1986-founded as TNT Hydrolines) to provide regularly scheduled high-speed commuter ferries for the NY-NJ route. The deal included leasing 65000 ft2/6040 m2 of land at Port Jersey's Marine Terminal. As of 2023, SeaStreak Ferry has a fleet of 9 vessels (double-hulled diesel catamarans) and operates on 3 waterways (Hudson River, East River, New York Bay) linking 8 terminals. On Hudson River, SeaStreak operates the routes linking Belford NJ (Monmouth County) with NYC's Manhattan (Battery Park City Ferry Terminal), and Jersey City (Paulus Hook Ferry Terminal) with NYC's West Midtown Ferry Terminal.

On February 13, 2020, the NY-NJ Port Authority's commissioners approved a 10-year lease for the new commuter ferry service linking Jersey City (Cape Liberty's Military Ocean Terminal) with NYC's Lower Manhattan (Wall Street Pier 11, and East 34th Street Ferry Landing).

In 2018 was inaugurated the ferry route connecting Bayonne with Manhattan (across Hudson River). A US$650,000 federal grant was given to the city for building of a ferry terminal. The facility is on the southern part of Military Ocean Terminal, on an artificial peninsula east of Route 440. The 1,5-acre land site (former US Navy base) was purchased in 2010 and leased for ferry docking at US$200,000 per year.

In the previous year (2017) NYC Ferry inaugurated the commute ferry service linking Manhattan with Long Island (Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Bronx). In 2016, NYC Ferry's fleet consisted of 19 newbuild boats.

  • On May 1st were launched the East River route (North Brooklyn to Midtown and NYC's Financial District) and the Rockaway route (Lower Manhattan to Sunset Park and The Rockaways).
  • On June 1st was launched the South Brooklyn route (8 terminals/between Corlears Hook and Bay Ridge) linking Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, Red Hook, Brooklyn Bridge Park.
  • On August 29th was launched the Astoria route (between Western Queens and Roosevelt Island) linking Wall Street/Pier 11, East 34th Street, LIC/Long Island City Queens, Roosevelt Island Manhattan, and Astoria Queens.

In August 2018, NYC Ferry launched a link between Soundview (South Bronx) and Manhattan. The landing site in Bronx is at Clason Point Park (Sound View Ave's end). The nearest subway station (Morrison Ave-Sound View) is 2 mi (3 km) away. Ferry travel time Bronx-Manhattan is 45-min. In Manhattan, ferries stop at 90th St (Upper East Side), East 34th Str (Midtown), Pier 11 (Wall Str). Currently, NYC Ferry operates 6 routes.

Cape Liberty Bayonne cruise terminal

Port Cape Liberty is to the south of Hudson River, and approx 18 mi/29 km from Manhattan NY (via roads NY-9A S and I-78W, or around 45-min drive distance) and approx 11 mi/18 km from Newark NJ (via Highway I-78E, or around 40-min drive).

Cape Liberty can be accessed from Highway I-95 (exit 6, then NJ Turnpike's exit 14A). Drivers should follow the signs for New Jersey Route 440 South, then continue to "4 Port Terminal Blvd".

The following NY & NJ cruise port map shows the locations of all three cruise terminals (NYC's Manhattan and Brooklyn, and Bayonne NJ's Cape Liberty ).

The Port's address is "4 Port Terminal Boulevard Bayonne, NJ 07002".

Bayonne's cruise port is in close proximity to EWR-Newark Liberty Airport (10 mi / 16 km to the west, ~20-min travel time by car) and easy to access, skipping NYC's heavy traffic and bridges.

In October 2014, Royal Caribbean and NYC & NJ Port Authority dedicated a Cape Liberty Cruise Terminal for the RCI's ship Quantum OTS . The new terminal started operations on November 10, 2014.

The new facility is located at Port Terminal Blvd (Bayonne waterfront), adjacent to the Tear Drop Memorial (Russia-built, 10–story sculpture).

The US$55 million project included port expansion and also improvements to the existing docking pier. The new passenger terminal has a total covered area of 125000 ft2 (11600 m2) and has check-in, customs and immigration, luggage storage and processing areas, public restrooms, free WiFi (throughout), adjacent to the terminal parking area (capacity 950 cars, fitted with its own restroom).

Cruise parking costs US$25 per day (including taxes).

The new terminal building is adjacent to the 2004-inaugurated cruise terminal.

Directly in front of the Cape Liberty Cruise Port's terminal, there are designated luggage drop-off zones.

Fly-cruisers arrive in New Jersey via NYC's LaGuardia Airport and JFK Airport, and also via New Jersey's Newark Liberty Airport. Royal Caribbean provides bus shuttles for direct airport-cruise port transfer on the embarkation day. This is the fastest, cheapest and most secure/guaranteed transfer option.

The alternative is NYC's public transportation system (trains/buses to either Newark (Pennsylvania Station) or Bayonne (45th Street Light Rail Station), then you need to taxi to the cruise terminal. Newark' Penn Station serves regularly scheduled Amtrak trains interconnecting numerous destinations along the US East Coast.

Taxis (as well as Uber and Lyft) are available from all the three international airports but are costly.

MOTBY (Military Ocean Terminal at Bayonne) was operational and used by the US Navy in the period 1967-1999 The terminal was an upgrade/expansion of the former Bayonne Naval Drydock (1942-1967).

Top Sights & Attractions for Cruises Leaving from New Jersey

Statue of liberty.

Many of the best photographs, postcards, and video footage of the Statue of Liberty were taken from the incomparable vantage point of Cape Liberty. A gift from France to the United States as a gesture of friendship and amicable relations, the Statue of Liberty was unveiled in October 1886. For American citizens, immigrants, and visitors alike, the raised torch of the Statue of Liberty towering 305 feet above the New York Harbor now symbolizes freedom and goodwill to all who arrive on American shores. Immigrants making the long, treacherous voyage across the ocean to the U.S. were greeted by Lady Liberty welcoming them to their new home.

Downtown Manhattan

If you can, take a few extra days before or after your cruise from NJ to spend time in nearby New York City. Manhattan, the heart of NYC, is home to some of the most famous sights and attractions in the world. Spend a night on Broadway and watch your favorite musical. Stroll under the neon lights of Times Square among thousands of New Yorkers and tourists alike. Read a book in the green grass of Central Park and stand under the Empire State Building to understand its unparalleled vastness. Visit the myriad of museums, restaurants, libraries, famous movie filming sites, and architectural wonders in this amazing city.

Home of Alexander Hamilton

On a cruise from NJ, don’t miss a visit to the home of Alexander Hamilton in Manhattan, The Grange at 141st Street. Born in 1755 on the Caribbean island of Nevis, Hamilton came to New York at the age of 18, became a hero of the Revolutionary War, and went on to become a congressman, a prominent lawyer, and the first Secretary of the Treasury.

Learn More About Cape Liberty Shore Excursions

Where can i eat near the cape liberty cruise port.

Although there are no restaurants near the port, the nearby city of Newark has every restaurant and type of food imaginable. Additionally, there is a food truck with coffee, bagels, and other delicious bites outside the entrance of the cruise terminal, which is convenient for those departing on cruises from New Jersey.

What’s the culture & history of the Cape Liberty cruise port?

Conveniently located in Lower New York Harbor, the Cape Liberty Cruise Port was originally created by private developers in 1930 who intended it for industrial use. However, the ideal location and sheer size of the port made it an ideal candidate for use by the U.S. Navy in WWII. The peninsula upon which the port sits off the eastern end of Bayonne Bay is man-made. In 2003, the BLRA and Royal Caribbean International announced their agreement to turn the 430-acre port into a cruise terminal, and in 2013 Royal Caribbean International built a brand new, sleek, and innovative cruise terminal featuring LED lighting and modern design.

Where can I go shopping near the port?

Since the cruise port sits on a peninsula off the mainland, there are no shopping options in proximity to the port, besides a kiosk with basic essentials in the cruise terminal. About a 20-minute drive from the port, guests can find TJ Maxx and Walmart for last-minute cruise essentials.

How can I get around New Jersey?

While public transportation is available to bring you to a drop-off point outside the Cape Liberty cruise terminal, Port Authority prohibits any guests to arrive at the port in any transportation other than a motor vehicle. Pedestrians are also prohibited from entering the restricted port area, so walking from the bus drop-off station is not an option. Therefore, you’re required to acquire a taxi or other car service for the remainder of the way to the terminal (about a $10 taxi fare). Taxis, Uber/Lyft drivers, and private car services all have access to the restricted areas of the port as well.

What are the local currency and tipping customs?

The official currency in Cape Liberty is the US dollar (USD). Major credit cards are widely used and accepted, and ATMs are readily available throughout the city and port. Most prices displayed on merchandise and food do not yet include gratuities or taxes. Tipping is not mandatory but is generally considered to be proper and appropriate etiquette for services rendered.

The Scenic Road Trip that Leads to 5 of New Jersey’s Most Charming Shore Towns

A Jersey Shore road trip is a great idea this time of year, as many of these popular towns are at their best in the offseason.

Written by

As fall arrives, my thoughts often turn to the Jersey Shore. As much as I love the place, it can be a bit much in the summer - between the crowds and the heat. But in early fall, most of the beach towns are still rolling on the weekends, with beaches and attractions open. The crowds have lessened, the weather is beautiful, and the sights are stunning. That makes it the perfect time for a Jersey Shore road trip, and we've come up with a road trip itinerary that will take you to five of the best shore towns in Central New Jersey while only having to drive for around an hour. That will give you plenty of time to explore these beautiful beach destinations and take in all they have to offer.

alt

The beach towns in Central New Jersey don't often get as much attention compared to the likes of Cape May and Atlantic City, but these smaller destinations have a ton of charm and attractions for all ages. You'll only be on the road for an hour, but you can expect some amazing stops.

1. Red Bank

alt

Red Bank might not be on the shore per se, but its proximity to the stunning Navesink River makes it an honorary first stop on the tour. This charming town of around 12,000 is known for being one of the state's best hubs of the arts thanks to the beautiful Count Basie Theater. It's also a great dining destination - whether you want the state's most creative pork roll sandwiches , or a delicious scratch-made Italian dinner . The kids will love the town's chocolate shop and retro arcade - and if a few hours here isn't enough, check into the Molly Pitcher Inn for a night in the lap of luxury.

2. Asbury Park

alt

The largest town on our list with around 15,000 people, Asbury Park is a world-famous beach destination that's one of the best offseason towns on the shore . Its Crown Jewel is The Stone Pony , an amazing music venue that just celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. The town's historic architecture also helped to put it on the map - just check out this stunning abandoned carousel . Looking for culture here? There's a paranormal museum and a pinball museum , only minutes away from each other. And of course, you can't leave without some famous Boardwalk fries and lemonade .

alt

Belmar is a more laid-back town than the last two, with a population of just under 6,000 and a focus on the beautiful shoreline. Its diverse collection of restaurants, beautiful parks system, and close proximity to the river make it one of the best shore towns around , especially if you're looking to fish or just soak up the sun. There's also a great place to eat right by the water - Klein's Fish Market , which features a massive outdoor patio as well as a still-operating fish market.

4. Manasquan

alt

Manasquan might just be one of the most beautiful towns on the Jersey Shore. With a population of under 6,000, this is primarily a residential area without too many attractions - which makes it a must-visit for nature-lovers. The Manasquan Reservoir features a gorgeous loop trail that is easy to walk and shows you the most beautiful spots by the town's waterfront, and the local restaurant scene is known for its amazing burgers . If you're here in the summer, you might witness one of the town's most stunning sights - bioluminescent waves !

5. Point Pleasant Beach

alt

We'll wrap things up at one of the most iconic beach towns and one of the friendliest towns in New Jersey . Point Pleasant Beach is best known for the massive Jenkinson's Boardwalk complex, which is home to an amusement park, a truly bizarre funhouse , an acclaimed aquarium, and the largest tiki bar in New Jersey . If you're staying for dinner, the town is home to plenty of acclaimed restaurants, including the watefront gem The Shrimp Box and the top-notch French bistro The Poached Pear .

Have you visited any of the towns on this Jersey Shore road trip? Let us know what you thought, and what your favorite shore towns to visit are in the comments section! If you're getting to Point Pleasant Beach at the end of the day and don't want to drive all the way back home, you can check into The White Sands Oceanfront Resort & Spa , the town's premiere luxury destination - perfect if you're planning a late dinner on the water.

This Incredible Flower Road Trip Through New Jersey Is The Ultimate Spring Adventure

As spring reaches its peak through New Jersey, it's impossible to avoid seeing the flowers springing up all around us. Some are more welcome than others - c'mon, dandelions in my front yard, take a day off - but they all add to the unique beauty of the Garden State. This is also the time when we're all ready to get out of the house and shake off that winter inertia, and there's no better way to do that than a spring flower road trip in New Jersey. We've put together an itinerary with eight spectacular destinations across the Garden State, ranging from world-famous flower farms to hidden gardens and park trails. The trip will take around four hours of total driving, which makes it perfect for a one or two-day adventure. Come with us and discover why New Jersey is never more beautiful than in the springtime.

From South Jersey to the New York border, this flower road trip is around 180 miles and well worth the journey.

alt

1. Dalton Farms (Swedesboro)

alt

Dalton Farms is located in Swedesboro, a small town which celebrates its Scandinavian roots - and they're on full display at this massive tulip farm. A drive-through tulip trail is the farm's top spring attraction, but through the year you'll find fresh honey, fall sunflowers, and other attractions.

2. Durr's Bluebox Produce (Wrightstown)

alt

Best known as an acclaimed farm market, Durr's Bluebox Produce doubles as a quaint u-pick flower farm. They grow a wide range of flowers and offer several options for designing your own bouquet, so it's a perfect place to stop to pick up a gift for that special someone as well as farm-fresh fruits and veggies.

3. Holland Ridge Farms (Cream Ridge)

alt

If there's a first name in NJ flowers, it's definitely Holland Ridge Farms . One of the biggest tulip farms in the United States, this Cream Ridge institution becomes a massive attraction in April when the fields are most abundant. Visit, take some incredible photos, and pick your own tulip bouquet!

4. Greenway Meadows Park (Princeton)

alt

Let's shift gears to a more laid-back flower destination. Greenway Meadows in Princeton is one of the state's best-hidden parks, and this urban gem is filled with small trails, carved benches, and charming wildflower fields that are especially beautiful when the sun hits them in the evening.

5. Rutgers Gardens (North Brunswick)

alt

The most majestic botanical garden in New Jersey, Rutgers Gardens is open to anyone whether they go to the University or not. It's a massive park featuring dozens of unique gardens - including this stunning azalea path - as well as charming works of public art. You can easily spend all day here exploring the trails.

6. Reeves-Reed Arboretum (Summit)

alt

Daffodil Days at Reeves-Reed Arboretum may happen in early April, but the park and its massive daffodil fields are well worth visiting later in the season. Not only are the daffodils still beautiful, but they're joined by a diverse collection of plants and wildflowers. Combined with the historic buildings and exhibits, it's a must-see destination.

7. Brookdale Park Rose Garden (Montclair)

alt

Another well-hidden gem found in a small county park, the Brookdale Park Rose Garden is one of my favorite spots. It features over a hundred species of roses, including many the average person has never heard of. This means the garden is covered in unique shades of red in-season, and it feels like one of the most romantic spots around.

8. Five Ponds Loop (Ringwood)

alt

Let's end with a laid-back, 5.7-mile hike through Ringwood State Park. Five Ponds Loop takes you past several small bodies of water and some ancient rock formations, but during the spring it's especially gorgeous. You'll frequently come across little beds of wildflowers in full bloom, and this trail is rarely crowded.
