LATEST NEWS

On the heels of her triumphant headlining return to the iconic Stagecoach Festival, 8-time GRAMMY® Award winner and 3-time ACM Entertainer of the Year, Carrie Underwood, announces her new arena tour, THE DENIM & RHINESTONES TOUR, with dates in Fall 2022 and Spring 2023.

The new tour, promoted by AEG Presents, will kick off on October 15 in Greenville, SC, making stops in 43 U.S. cities including New York's Madison Square Garden, Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, and L.A.'s Crypto.com Arena before concluding in Seattle, WA on March 17. Underwood will be joined on THE DENIM & RHINESTONES TOUR by special guest Jimmie Allen on all dates. After teasing fans about the impending announcement on social media and on last night's episode of American Idol, Underwood made the official reveal this morning.

Allen will join Underwood's THE DENIM & RHINESTONES TOUR as his star continues to rise, following his first GRAMMY Award nomination for Best New Artist in 2022 and CMA and ACM Award wins for New Artist of the Year & New Male Artist of the Year, respectively, in 2021. His third album Tulip Drive will be released June 24.

Tickets for the concerts go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, May 20 at 10am local time. A limited number of exclusive VIP Packages will be available which include an amazing selection of tickets, Meet & Greets, custom merchandise, and much more. For more information, go here .

"I'm thrilled to be hitting the road again with THE DENIM & RHINESTONES TOUR," says Underwood. "I'm having such an amazing time with my Las Vegas residency and look forward to continuing that next year after the tour. I'm excited to bring the new music of Denim & Rhinestones to life on tour, as well as put new spins on familiar favorites. We've been working hard already preparing an amazing show, and I can't wait to see everyone on the road!"

The all-new production will be directed by Barry Lather (Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson), and Nick Whitehouse/Fireplay (Justin Timberlake, Beyonce) is Production Designer.

Since early in her career, Underwood has designated a portion of ticket sales from her tours to support worthwhile charities and organizations. She continues that tradition by arranging for a donation of $1 from each ticket sold for THE DENIM & RHINESTONES TOUR to be contributed to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org), which has been helping America's heroes since 9/11 by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children and by building custom-designed smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. The Foundation is also committed to eradicating veteran homelessness and aiding the victims of major U.S. disasters.

Underwood will release her highly anticipated album, Denim & Rhinestones, on June 10. The album is her latest collaboration with David Garcia, with Garcia and Underwood having co-produced her critically acclaimed 2018 release, Cry Pretty, which marked the first time Underwood produced her own album.

Garcia and Underwood also co-produced Underwood's 2021 GRAMMY® Award-winning album of gospel hymns, My Savior. The lead single from the new upcoming album, "Ghost Story," is currently climbing the charts and has garnered over 30M global streams. The song's cinematic music video, directed by acclaimed director and photographer Randee St. Nicholas, is available now.

The Denim & Rhinestones Signed CD Box Set and Vinyl Box Sets are available for preorder now, which include an exclusive t-shirt, rhinestone pack, denim tote bag, and album slip mat in limited quantities here. Fans can order from physical retailers here. The vinyl edition will be available in July and a cassette version on August 5.

2022 dates for Underwood's ongoing REFLECTION: The Las Vegas Residency at the Resorts World Theatre continue through May 21. The first artist to grace the largest and tallest stage in Las Vegas, Underwood opened the new 5,000-capacity, world-class theatre with a sold-out engagement in December 2021, followed by sold-out runs in March and April 2022. 2023 dates for REFLECTION will be announced at a later date.

Underwood's most recent arena tour, THE CRY PRETTY TOUR 360, ran in 2019, closing out in the #1 spot on Pollstar's LIVE75 chart (11/04/19), which ranks worldwide active tours by average tickets sold. Also in 2019, Underwood performed her UK arena tour, THE CRY PRETTY TOUR UK, which brought her dynamic production and signature vocal prowess to thousands of fans throughout England, Wales and Scotland with five arena shows.

Carrie Underwood’s Storyteller Tour Sparkles in Philadelphia

Carrie Underwood

Mid-way through Carrie Underwood ’s concert at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, she took a moment to talk about what country music means to her.

“What better genre is there to tell stories?” she asked the audience.

Underwood brought her Storyteller 2016 tour to the City of Brotherly love, and though she could just let her music do all the storytelling, the artist took  a few moments to share personal stories about her new life as a mother to her son, Isaiah (“my greatest accomplishment”), her “cool job,” and her love and respect for  Dolly Parton .

That said, Underwood’s two-hour Monday night show (Feb. 22) was anything but a traditional country show, as the superstar presented a visual spectacle with a stage set-up that has to be seen to be believed.

The entire evening  is performed in the round, providing a 360-degree experience that gives every fan a chance to see the American Idol season four winner up close and personal. The stage has movable parts, allowing Underwood to emerge on a high platform or drop down below the stage for one of four stunning costume changes — from gold to beige, and also an eye-catching red dress and a silver/black sparkly outfit with matching microphone. Driving the action is a three-tiered lighting structure that at times flashed lyrics to songs or provided a kaleidoscope of color to keep up with the evening’s action-packed pace.

Trending on Billboard

Underwood set the high-octane tone before even setting foot on the stage as AC/DC’s “Back in Black” blared throughout the arena.  As the lighting structure lowered to the center of the stage like the mother ship landing on Earth, Underwood’s amazingly tight six-piece band (pedal steel guitars, banjos and fiddles each got their proper due) emerged like magic playing the opening refrains of “Renegade Runaway.”  Glittering in a gold, sparkly mini-dress and long black boots, Underwood came out swinging with “Last Name” (mixed with a little bit of the Miranda Lambert duet, “Something Bad”) and the anthem “Good Girl” amidst a backdrop of swirling lights and a rotating stage.

“I am always so excited when we play Philadelphia,” she exclaimed. “You guys are crazy — and I like crazy.”

The audience at the Wells Fargo Center was definitely loud, engaging in many sing-alongs throughout the evening. “Jesus Take the Wheel,” for instance, took the audience to church, and the electric energy in the venue amped Underwood even more as the evening went on. Even though it was obvious she was fighting off a cold, Underwood overcame that like the professional she is, hitting an unbelievably high note while belting her early hit, “Wasted.”

Vocal fireworks doesn’t tell the whole story, however. There are sparklers, lasers, explosions, smoke, and even actual fireworks thrown in for good measure. For “Cowboy Casanova,” Underwood ascends from beneath the stage atop a jukebox awash in sparklers and visuals of vinyl records on the video screens. Later in the show, Underwood emerged in a bedazzled red dress to underscore the drama of her hit, “Blown Away,” recreating a tornado effect with the 32-year old in the center of the storm.

While Underwood said she was proud that the songs on that album were “dramatic, edgy and cool,” she admitted it was kind of scary to find new themes for new material on the next album.

This crowd is singing along with @carrieunderwood @WellsFargoCtr #storytellertour pic.twitter.com/vF2buestYM — MicheleAmabile (@MicheleAmabile) February 23, 2016

“I’m really proud of this Storyteller album,” she said. “It’s different for me.”

Newer songs — particularly “Heartbeat” and the “twangy” “Dirty Laundry” — from that October release fared well in this setting.  Especially surprising was a harmonica duel, in which Underwood showed off her new harp skills on the song “Choctaw County Affair.”

A sweet cover of Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” and a group number  of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s  “Fishin’ in the Dark,” with openers Easton Corbin and The Swon Brothers, continued the party until the superstar got the entire audience involved in the act with her “Carriecam,” videotaping fans for the big screens and making sure to make contact with the fans in the general admission area. A communal rave up of “Before He Cheats” capped off the night before she returned for a stunning finale of “Smoke Break” and “Something in the Water,” where the lights created a purple waterfall, enveloping her in serene colors for a cool finish.

Carrie Underwood

Early attendees to the show were treated to openers The Swon Brothers, who provided a short but extremely fun set that included cuts from their new album, “Timeless.” A cover of Jason DeRulo’s “Want to Want Me” got the crowd dancing, and elicited cheers from fans of The Voice alum.

Florida’s Easton Corbin was equally entertaining, with a funny bit mixing in Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” (an ode to the year he was born-1982), Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and TLC’s “Waterfalls” before delivering a spirited cover of Toby Keith’s “Should Have Been a Cowboy.” Corbin incorporated the audience into his set as well with a fun call for participation on his new song, “Yup” and older treats, “Lovin’ You is Fun.” Preceding “Are You With Me,” he gave a heartfelt speech to the servicemen in attendance at the show, mentioning that his own father was a Vietnam War veteran.

Allen will join Underwood’s THE DENIM & RHINESTONES TOUR as his star continues to rise, following his first GRAMMY Award nomination for Best New Artist in 2022 and CMA and ACM Award wins for New Artist of the Year & New Male Artist of the Year, respectively, in 2021. His third album Tulip Drive will be released June 24.

“I’m thrilled to be hitting the road again with THE DENIM & RHINESTONES TOUR ,” says Underwood.  “I’m having such an amazing time with my Las Vegas residency and look forward to continuing that next year after the tour. I’m excited to bring the new music of Denim & Rhinestones to life on tour, as well as put new spins on familiar favorites.  We’ve been working hard already preparing an amazing show, and I can’t wait to see everyone on the road!”

She continues that tradition by arranging for a donation of $1 from each ticket sold for  THE DENIM & RHINESTONES TOUR  to be contributed to the  Tunnel to Towers Foundation  ( t2t.org ), which has been helping America’s heroes since 9/11 by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children and by building custom-designed smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. The Foundation is also committed to eradicating veteran homelessness and aiding the victims of major U.S. disasters.

Underwood will release her highly-anticipated album, Denim & Rhinestones , on June 10.  The album is her latest collaboration with David Garcia, with Garcia and Underwood having co-produced her critically-acclaimed 2018 release, Cry Pretty , which marked the first time Underwood produced her own album.  Garcia and Underwood also co-produced Underwood’s 2021 GRAMMY® Award-winning album of gospel hymns, My Savior .  The lead single from the new upcoming album, “Ghost Story,” is currently climbing the charts and has garnered over 30M global streams.  The song’s cinematic music video, directed by acclaimed director and photographer Randee St. Nicholas, is available now ( Watch Here ).

The Denim & Rhinestones Signed CD Box Set and Vinyl Box Sets are available for preorder now, which include an exclusive t-shirt, rhinestone pack, denim tote bag, and album slip mat in limited quantities here . Fans can order from physical retailers here . The vinyl edition will be available in July and a cassette version on August 5.

Shake off the Super Bowl blues with these 5 concerts

Feat. Carrie Underwood, Subtronics, GZA, and more, in the city and in Atlantic City.

Carrie Underwood's "Denim & Rhinestones" tour comes to the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday.

This week’s top five live music picks features jamgrass in Atlantic City, dubstep at the Met, folk rock at World Cafe Live, country in South Philly, and hip-hop at Underground Arts.

And here are five bonus picks if you need more options: Keb Mo at Parx Casino and Eliza Edens at MilkBoy Philly on Friday, Res at City Winery and West Philly Orchestra at Johnny Brenda’s on Saturday, and Marc Ribot: The Jazz-Bins at Solar Myth on Thursday.

1. Billy Strings

Billy Strings was born William Apostol. His aunt Modi gave him his nickname because of his dexterity on a variety of acoustic instruments. Fresh off a two-night stand at the Met in November, the bluegrass multi-instrumentalist is back in the area for three nights in Atlantic City. The Grammy winner’s tour in support of his new album with Terry Barber, Me/And/Dad, starts Thursday and continues through Saturday. $49-$69, 8 p.m., 2/16-2/18, Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, 1000 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, hardrockhotelatlanticcity.com .

2. Subtronics

Subtronics is dubstep artist Jesse Kardon, a Philly-born DJ-producer (and drummer) whose profile is continually rising in the electronic music world. Last summer, Kardon sold out the Red Rocks amphitheater in Colorado. His full-length debut, Antifractals, topped the Billboard charts in December and he packed the Kia Forum in Los Angeles last month. On Friday, he plays a hometown gig at the Met Philly on North Broad Street. $39-$125, 8 p.m., 2/17, the Met Philadelphia, 858 N. Broad St., themetphilly.com

3. Ron Sexsmith

Ron Sexsmith came to prominence in 1995 with his Daniel Lanois-produced self-titled solo debut. It featured the adult-alternative radio staples “Lebanon, Tennessee” and “Secret Heart,” the latter which was covered by Rod Stewart and Leslie Feist. Through 17 albums, Sexsmith has continued to have a way with a fetching melody and witty turn of phrase — it makes sense that Elvis Costello and Paul McCartney are fans. His newest, The Vivian Line, which comes out Friday, is full of charmers like “One Bird Calling” and “Outdated and Antiquated” that are gently nostalgic and self-deprecating. He’s on his first American tour in eight years, with Philly singer-songwriter Avi Wisnia opening. $30-$35, 8 p.m., 2/18, Music Hall at World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut St., worldcafelive.com

4. Carrie Underwood

The winner of the fourth season of American Idol in 2005 has maintained a place as one of the few women who have continually thrived in a country mainstream that’s often been dominated by bro country knuckleheads. (She’s also maintained a high profile via her weekly Sunday night football showcase, which she’s held down since replacing Faith Hill in 2013.) Underwood’s “Denim & Rhinestones” tour supports her slick pop- and rock-leaning 2022 album of the same name whose high point is the no-regrets divorce song “She Don’t Know.” The album follows the 2020 holiday collection, My Gift, and 2021 gospel album, My Savior . Breakout Delaware-raised country star Jimmie Allen opens. $35.50-$146, 7:30 p.m., 2/22, Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St., wellsfargocenterphilly.com

What’s the greatest solo album by a member of the Wu-Tang Clan? Is it Ghostface Killah’s Supreme Clientele ? Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx ? An Ol’ Dirty Bastard album whose title cannot be printed here? It’s a matter of debate, but no conversation among discerning fans would leave out GZA’s Liquid Swords , the 1995 tour de force by the rapper born Gary Eldridge Grice who’s also known as The Genius. The RZA-produced collection, which features contributions from all the group’s members, sets itself apart with GZA’s cerebral, understated approach and experimental soundscape. At Underground Arts, he’ll play the album in its entirety while backed by a full band. With Dell P, Qthree, JtheAudiphile, and Lazarus. $36, 8 p.m. 2/23, Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., undergroundarts.org
