ELDERBROOK ANNOUNCES UK & IRELAND TOUR  MAY 2023  New single ‘I’ll Be Around’ available  NOW

Grammy award winning multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer/songwriter Elderbrook has announced a very special UK & Ireland headline tour for May 2023. The highly anticipated live shows will celebrate Elderbook’s upcoming second studio album, ‘Little Love’, which is set for release on 31st March.

Kicking things off in Nottingham at the Rescue Rooms on 2nd May, Elderbrook will then perform six dates across some of the UK and Ireland’s major cities including Manchester’s New Century Hall on 5th May and London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town on 6th May.

Elderbrook has sold out huge headline shows and tours all over the world and has toured with artists such as Friendly Fires, Jungle Rufus Du Sol and Odesza. Following his UK dates this year, he will also embark on a massive run of European shows throughout May and June. Racking up over 1 billion streams to date, and being announced on the 2023 Coachella line-up, Elderbrook continues to prove himself a frontrunner in the electronic scene.

Having released his latest track ‘I’ll Be Around’ last week featuring Amtrac, the euphoric single pairs soaring synths, with hazy vocals portraying a comforting story, alongside sharp, poignant production.

Live phenomenon, self-taught multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer-songwriter Elderbrook is known for his collaborations with some of the biggest names in dance music including Diplo, Camelphat, Black Coffee, Bob Moses, The Martinez Brothers and Carnage. Meanwhile his acclaimed debut album ‘Why Do We Shake In The Cold?’ included sleeper hits ‘Numb’ and ‘Something About You’, and his most recent EP ‘Innerlight’ included a collaboration with Bob Moses and the resultant tour saw him sell out shows all over the world.

Excited to be heading out on tour this May, you can catch Elderbook live at the following dates below. Tickets are on sale now and available from  www.elderbrookofficial.com

Atwood Magazine - For the Love of Music

Family, Ibiza, and a New Musical Chapter: A Conversation With Grammy-Nominated Artist Elderbrook

Elderbrook © 2023

Sitting down with Atwood Magazine from his countryside home in England, singer, producer, and now DJ Elderbrook tells us about the life he’s lived and the exciting new adventure he’s on.

Stream: “chill mixes” – elderbrook, k nown for his powerful on-stage voice and masterful sampling of unique sounds into his productions, elderbrook has been leveling up his artistry for his entire career..

Incorporating a plethora of different genres, styles, tempos, and collaborations into a storied career has garnered Elderbrook a Grammy Nomination for his hit song, “Cola” with fellow producer Camelphat.

Alexander Kotz, the man behind the name Elderbrook, started his career experimenting with a variety of genres like soul and gospel, hip-hop, acoustic folk, indie rock and more. His willingness to adapt to new genres and incorporate live instrumentals like guitar, drums, and piano, along with shaping his voice to fit the vibe of the specific song is what makes Kotz such a dynamic artist.

“I’ve tried all different types of music, and it just so happened that the electronic one kind of just stuck. I got into electronic music by making hip hop beats and like reaching out to local rappers to see if they’d collaborate.”

Elderbrook © 2023

Kotz tells Atwood about one particular genre that he loves that was a bit of a surprise.

“I’m secretly super into pop country, like top 40 country, so Jordan Davis and stuff like that. I can’t really remember the names, I always just put on playlists. But yeah, that’s my secret love… Like everyone else, I listen to everything from hip hop to peaceful piano music, but yeah, what people are surprised at is my love of top 40 country.”

This drive for creation has led to global headlining tours, including recent stops at Bonnaroo and Coachella. Kotz shares about his thoughts on the different settings he’s played at, from small clubs in Ibiza to global festival stages.

“I guess that they’re really good in different ways. Festivals can be amazing when you’ve got a big stage, and everyone shows up. But also, festivals can be really difficult when you have the big stage and nobody shows up which you know, like it happens,” he chuckled. “So yeah, it’s amazing to be outside and like everyone’s camping and everyone’s getting messed up or whatever, and that is fun. But like the smaller clubs, and it also depends on the city as well, the smaller clubs can be super fun when it’s really sweaty and then you just play for an extra hour just because the vibe is there. So yeah, they have their different perks.”

Kotz is renowned amongst the edm circles for being a talented multi-instrumental musician and producer. Recently, however, he has a newfound love for DJing.

“I’ll be doing it for a year now. I’ve been doing the same shows, but now I might go and do a DJ set afterwards, or it means I can play in Vegas and Ibiza and stuff like that. And so yeah, it’s just an extra fun little thing I can do. And a nice excuse to you know, go to Vegas, or go to Ibiza,” he chuckled.

When asked about his favorite city to try out his DJ skills, Kotz explains, “I think crowd wise, and I always say this, but it’s Poland, Warsaw in particular. There’s just a different kind of energy over there. You know, in Eastern Europe, everyone just kind of goes a little bit more crazy.”

Elderbrook © 2023

One of the biggest trends in the world of EDM is back-to-back sets, and as a new DJ, Kotz told us about his first back-to-back experience with fellow DJ Hayden James.

“So, we did that at Coachella this year. I had a set, and he was already there just like hanging out. So, I said, ‘Hey, you got your USB?’ He did have his USB. So yeah, we went back-to-back on the stage where people do cool stuff, which I forgot what it was called.”

He was referring to the infamous “Do Lab” of Coachella, where people do, in fact, showcase some pretty cool stuff at.

“So, we did that for an hour, hour and a half and that was fun. That was the first time I ever went back-to-back DJing with someone, which was, I wouldn’t say scary, but because I’m fairly new to DJing I was kind of like you know, planning my sets a bit. So, to have someone else really like throwing it off and trying to figure it out, but that kind of made me think and it gave me more confidence. I thought, ‘yeah, I’m really like a proper DJ now.’ So now I’m not really planning, I’m just kind of vibing it out, which is nice… You don’t have to do any vocal warmups. You can have a couple of drinks. It’s just pretty fun.”

His recently released album, Little Love, is an ode to a new chapter in the talented singer’s life.

Kotz had become a new father and wanted to explore the unique relationship between father and child. The album is retrospective and genuine, while dealing with sincere attributes of fatherhood. There’s a magic in being able to produce high-tempo, dance-centric songs set to such a personal and meaningful topic.

little love - Elderbrook

“Yeah, so since my first album, I became a father, twice. So, I’ve got two kids. And that’s where the name ‘Little Love’ comes from. You know, they’re little, they’re kids. So yeah, I guess it’s all about what that means for me and kind of like introspectively looking more at bigger picture stuff like focusing on you know, just bigger picture stuff in the songs.”

Following up on his family, Kotz says he tries to bring them along with him whenever he can.

“Well, the oldest one is two and a half so she’s just way too young to stay up late enough. But we all went to Coachella together, for example. She saw me play Coachella on the big screen, which was a cool thing… I mean, again, it was too hot for the babies because it’s in the middle of the desert, but it was really good. They got to see me on stage which is really nice. We actually went on tour as an entire family, we had like a crew bus, but we also had a family bus as we did the whole of the US. For a month and a half we had two babies on a tour bus which was pretty amazing. It was quite difficult, but it was also amazing.”

Speaking on the single “Talk It Over,” from the new album, Kotz tells us about his collaborator on the song, Brazilian DJ Vintage Culture, and what it was like making the hit record.

“It was actually a really long time ago. Lukas, of Vintage Culture, reached out because we’ve been talking about some stuff before. He was actually the person that told me to start DJing when I played Lollapalooza.”

Chuckling about their wholesome interaction, “We ran into each other, it was the first time we properly met, and he said you should DJ and I was like, ‘okay, I will.’ But anyway, we kept on chatting. And, yeah, he sent me some stuff and this one kind of felt like it was the right one, it’s something that I could write to. And then we just did it back and forth, because obviously we’re both traveling so much. We sent it back and forth on WhatsApp until it sounded good and then we went in and really finished it. But yeah, I’m sure I’ll work with him again at some point.”

Elderbrook © 2023

Elderbrook tells us a little about one of his latest projects, which comes in the form of a new single titled “Good Life.”

“’Good Life’ is me and someone called Jake, who I worked a lot on my first album with, he’s a great producer and he’s done so many big things. But yeah, it’s just like an avenue for me to, like you mentioned before, do more of the ‘indie stuff’ that I came from. I’ve been doing Elderbook for a while. That’s not going anywhere. But it’s just another avenue to explore some more cool stuff.”

Elderbrook isn’t going anywhere, but Kotz is sure to be constantly on the lookout for more areas to learn from, and to level up his sound. With being a new father, and honing his new craft of DJing, there is a lot of excitement in the future from Kotz and his constant artistic and personal evolution.

20 Questions With Elderbrook: On His New Album, Learning to Say No & Why ‘You Don’t Have to Wait for Creativity’

"I learned that if you wake up at 9:00 a.m., and you just go and try and start working, you'll eventually be able to do it," says the U.K. producer, who just released his Little Love LP.

Trending on billboard.

1. Where in the world are you right now? Describe the scene.

I am in Charleston, South Carolina. Just got here. It’s suddenly sunny for the first time on this two-month tour. I’m in a little green room above the Music Farm, which is the venue that I’m playing at tonight. I actually played the same venue with RÜFÜS DU SOL back in 2018 when I was supporting them on that, so it’s come around in a nice way. It’s a two month long tour, and I’m just over the halfway point. The first half was in the snow. Second half is in the south, so sunshine until Coachella, where it will continue to be sunshine and warm for the rest of the year.

2. Where are you from, and how did that place shape who you are?

I am from just outside of London, obviously a huge music hub. There’s people coming in and out from all over the world, as you can imagine. I was able to see basically whoever I wanted to see whenever they came and toured through London. That shaped the fact that it got me going to live music really early on.

My father had a sports tourism company. So when football teams came over to the U.K., he would sort out their accommodation, travel and all of that stuff. It’s not too dissimilar to what a tour manager might be doing, so they’re always really interested whenever I tell them the logistics of my tours. They’re always looking out on the master tour app to make sure that my tour manager’s doing a good job.

4. What is the first album or piece of music you bought, and what was the medium?

It was a CD. I think it was The Darkness . I don’t know if The Darkness was a thing in the U.S.? That was my first ever CD that I consciously went out and wanted to buy for myself.

I believe in a thing called Little Love .

Oh there you go! I smell a cover coming along.

5. If you had to recommend one album for someone looking to get into dance or electronic music, what would you give them?

I would say The xx ’s first proper album. I know it’s not like a big electronic album, but that’s what got me from indie music into electronic, just because of the samples and the different… I don’t know, it’s a good intro to electronic music.

I mean, once you hear “Intro,” you’re done for.

Hey yeah, that’s a good point. It starts with a song called “Intro.” That was clever of me.

6. What was the last song you listened to?

Recently I’ve been putting on pop country playlists on Spotify, now that I’m getting down into the southern States. So probably someone like Jordan Davis or Luke Combs ?

7. Do you usually let the city you’re in dictate the style of music you’re listening to?

Sometimes, it’s a fun way to feel more a part of it, I guess. But to be honest, I just love pop country.

I wouldn’t say I play any of them particularly well, but I can make some good sounds on maybe about four or five; keys, guitar, and then I’m going to add bass guitar to that just because it’s kind of the same but sonically different. And then drums as well.

The first instrument that I wanted to have lessons in was saxophone — but I had one lesson, and then I said, “That gave me a headache.” So I didn’t do that anymore. And I played guitar as well. I was young, must have been when I was like 10 or 11.

9. You started selling hip-hop beats while in college. How much did you get paid for your first one?

It was £250 per beat. It was good for me at the time, I liked it. That was when I was in college, so I would have been like 18, 19. It was nice extra income. I don’t know if I spent the money that well or that sensibly, but I got the extra money.

10. When your first 2020 album came out, Why Do We Shake in the Cold?’, you were firmly locked down in COVID. What did you learn about yourself with all that downtime?

Well, with regards to writing and recording and doing music, I learned that if you wake up at 9:00 a.m., and you just go and try and start working, you’ll eventually be able to do it, and you don’t have to wait for creativity. You can find it yourself by going and locking yourself away and just pressing buttons.

11. Is that how these hotel sessions and bus sessions came about — this newfound most creative routine?

12. What songwriters influence or inspire you the most?

I would say Matt Berninger from The National . The lyrics of The National are really good, and the songwriting. That’s what really inspires me, especially at the beginning, to write in that way; kind of lyrically abstract rather than being on the nose; writing in a way that what I say can be interpreted however the listener might want to interpret it. It creates an energy that people can subscribe their own meaning to.

13. You recently got a tattoo that says “What Would Pooh Bear Do?” So, what would Pooh Bear do?

He would just be a really nice guy and just wander around, have a bit of honey. He would chill out. That is the most important thing to remember in life. That’s why I have that [phrase] tattooed on me. When you’re stressing out a bit, or things things aren’t going right, just have a think about what Pooh Bear would do, and it’s always whimsical and fun.

14. How has being a father changed you or your music?

Lyrically, more than anything. It’s made me want to focus more on the bigger picture stuff, the stuff that I’d want my children to get from my music almost as a lesson, or in a teaching kind of way.

15. Is that a big part of what’s on Little Love ?

That is exactly what is a big part of Little Love . I started writing it almost as a message to my children and what I’d want them to get from my music, if they ever listen later down the line. I started writing, and it gave me a different perspective on my own stuff that I don’t know if I would have thought about quite so deeply before.

I think that’s really in the music. I’ve been listening to a lot of people like Ben Böhmer and stuff like that. It’s just very gradual, uplifting, continuous. It’s really the chords that make it seem that way. I definitely wanted to keep that going throughout — and I guess the lyrics play into that a little bit, like you said. [They] kind of go against it, but in a bittersweet way.

17. The PR says all the voices on the album are yours. Is that true?

All of the voices are me, other than the song “Walk Away,” which has a folk singer called Ailbhe Reddy on it. She actually wrote the song, and I found it on Spotify and really liked it. Now I’m releasing it as my own with her. Other than that, it’s all me.

18. You’ve worked with so many incredible artists. I was so excited to see you work with Amtrac and Tourist on this album. Also Bob Moses , Kölsch . You were Grammy-nominated for your breakthrough collab. What makes a good collaboration work?

I think it’s different for everyone — but for me, a good collaboration is when you don’t worry about where you’re coming from or where the other person’s coming from. For example, when I worked with Tourist, I didn’t try to make a Tourist song, and he didn’t try to make an Elderbrook song. We just got together and saw what we could make. I think what makes a good collaboration is not having any expectations before going in, and sometimes it’s going to sound shit and sometimes it’s going to sound amazing.

19. Who has been your greatest mentor, and what was the best advice they gave you?

20. Finally, where do you want to share a little love?

On stage, every night with the lovely people that make the time and effort come and share these beautiful moments with me.

What to know about Schengen zone, Europe’s ‘border-free’ travel system

Schengen countries allow international travelers to move freely across borders without additional passport checks.

elderbrook tour europe

Europe’s “border-free” Schengen zone has added travel protections for two more countries, making it easier for more people to explore the southeastern region of the continent.

Romania and Bulgaria partially joined the Schengen area on Sunday, which means visitors who arrive by air or sea from other countries in the zone can cross their borders without an ID check. Land borders will remain subject to ID checks because of opposition led by Austria, which has long cited irregular migration as a concern when it comes to welcoming the two Eastern European states into the Schengen agreement. The move comes more than a decade after Romania and Bulgaria joined the European Union.

The European Commission had previously recommended that Bulgaria and Romania be admitted to join the Schengen zone, starting in 2011 and most recently in 2023. A combination of internal problems in the two countries and opposition from other countries citing irregular migration concerns — especially after the so-called “migrant crisis” of 2015 — meant they were caught in “Schengen purgatory” until now, according to Leon Züllig, a researcher and Schengen expert at Germany’s Justus Liebig University Giessen.

Interpol add Ireland date to 2024 ‘Antics’ 20th anniversary UK and European tour

The band will now wrap up the tour in Dublin this November

Paul Banks

Interpol have added an Ireland date to their 2024 ‘Antics’ 20th anniversary UK and European tour .

Last month the indie veterans announced plans to play their second LP in full across the UK in November, which will include stops in Manchester, Glasgow, London and more.

Now, they will wrap up their anniversary shows at Dublin’s 3Arena on November 10. General sale tickets go live on Friday, April 12 at 9am BST from here . Fans can also access the exclusive pre-sale at 9am BST on Tuesday (April 9) by registering with The Big House fan community by 8:55am BST the same day.

Ireland 🇮🇪 We're bringing the Antics 20th Anniversary show to @3ArenaDublin on November 10th. Members of The Big House will receive exclusive access to the presale at 9am BST on Tuesday, when registering interest by 8:55am BST same day. https://t.co/ElFSNlbDsI General on sale… pic.twitter.com/sOHzpy0iqj — Interpol (@Interpol) April 8, 2024

The ‘Antics’ tour kicks off at The Halls in Wolverhampton on November 1. Support on the London date at Alexandra palace (November 8) will come from Dust and Iceage .

Interpol guitarist Daniel Kessler recently spoke to NME about the legacy of their second album , sharing: “‘Bright Lights’ was our first record, so we had a tiny budget and a small amount of time in the studio and had to make a very ‘live’ record. That record was really how the band sounded on stage at that moment. We just wanted to do that justice.

He went on: “We were focussed on that and being reasonable with what we could accomplish. For ‘Antics’, we had the experience of having made a record and then toured for two years. When we came out of that, we wanted to make the studio work for us a bit more and get more out of the songs. There are more textures and the songs really hold you in the moment a little bit more.

Interpol’s ‘Antics’ 20th anniversary UK and Ireland tour dates are:

NOVEMBER 1 – Wolverhampton, The Halls 2 – Manchester, O2 Apollo 4 – Glasgow, Royal Concert Hall 5 – Newcastle, O2 City Hall 7 – Bristol, Beacon 8 – London, Alexandra Palace 10 – Dublin, 3Arena

Elsewhere in their conversation with NME , Kessler spoke about launching fanclub The Big House. “We’re not one of those bands who filmed every single thing that we did, but we’re trying to figure out what we do have, what our friends have and what we can share,” he said. “There are some things in the archive that hadn’t made it out to our fans yet. It’s been fun to try and create a little bit more of a community.”

In other news from the band, Interpol recently announced a huge free show in Mexico City , scheduled to take place later this month.
