Use Safari extensions on your Mac
Safari extensions enhance and customize the browsing experience on your Mac. Here's how to install them, uninstall them, or share them across devices.
Safari extensions add functionality to Safari, so you can explore the web the way you want. Extensions can show helpful information about a webpage, display news headlines, help you use your favorite services, change the appearance of webpages, and much more. Extensions are a great way to personalize your browsing experience.
Install extensions
Turn on extensions, turn off extensions, uninstall extensions, share extensions across devices.
Use the App Store to conveniently download and install Safari extensions. All extensions in the App Store are reviewed, signed, and hosted by Apple for your security, and they're automatically kept up to date.
Start by installing the latest macOS updates to make sure that Safari is up to date. You need Safari 12 or later to get Safari extensions from the App Store.
Open Safari and choose Safari > Safari Extensions from the menu bar.
The App Store opens to the Safari Extensions page. To download and install an extension, click Get or click the price. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.
Click Install.
After the extension is installed, click Open and follow the onscreen instructions provided by the extension.
After installing an extension, follow these steps to turn it on.
Choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences).
Click Extensions.
Select the checkbox next to the extension's name. Learn what to do if you can't turn on extensions .
If you're browsing privately, or using a profile or web app
When browsing in a private window in macOS Sonoma or later, all extensions that require website access are turned off by default. To use an extension when browsing privately:
Choose Safari > Settings.
Select the extension in the sidebar, then select “Allow in Private Browsing” on the right.
Whether or not you're browsing privately, you can also restrict the extension's access to certain websites. Click the Edit Websites button to view the extension in Websites settings. From there you can allow access, deny access, or require that websites ask you for access.
When using Safari profiles , extensions for the default profile are managed in the main Extensions tab of Safari settings. Extensions for other profiles are managed in the Profiles tab, which has its own Extensions tab for each profile. By default, extensions are turned off for each new profile.
Choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences), then click Extensions.
To turn off an extension, deselect its checkbox.
If you can't determine what an extension does, or you don't expect to use it again, you should uninstall it.
To uninstall an extension, select the extension and click the Uninstall button.
Starting with macOS Ventura, iOS 16, and iPadOS 16, you can share extensions across your Mac, iPhone, and iPad:
On your Mac, open Safari and choose Safari > Settings, then click Extensions. Select “Share across devices” at the bottom of the window.
On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Safari > Extensions, then turn on Share Across Devices.
To uninstall an extension from all devices, you must uninstall it on each device.
Safari no longer supports most web plug-ins. To load webpages more quickly, save energy, and strengthen security, Safari is optimized for content that uses the HTML5 web standard, which doesn't require a plug-in. To enhance and customize your browsing experience, use Safari extensions instead of web plug-ins.

Google Chat (formerly Hangouts Chat) now has a new standalone app. However, this is not a native app, instead it is a Progressive Web Application (PWA). This new Google Chat PWA app works on Windows, MacOS, Chrome OS, and Linux. There are some serious limitations as well. First, you need Google Chrome 73 or higher installed on your device. Second, to use the new standalone app, the Chrome browser needs to be open.
Here’s how you can install Google Chat app:
- Sign in to chat.google.com .
- If the app isn’t already installed, a pop-up window opens and lets you download the app.
- In the top right of Google Chrome, click More -> Install Hangouts Chat .
- In the top right of chat.google.com, click Settings -> Install Chat app .
Users who previously had the classic Hangouts extension or app will be redirected to the new Chat standalone app in the coming weeks.

Top 6 Ways to Fix Google Chat Not Loading in Browser
Pankil is a Civil Engineer turned freelance writer from Ahmedabad, India. Since his arrival at Guiding Tech in 2021, he delves into the world of how-tos, and troubleshooting guides on Android, iOS, Windows, and the Web at Guiding Tech. When time permits, he also writes at MakeUseOf and Techwiser. Besides his new-found love for mechanical keyboards, he's a disciplined footfall fan and continues to plan his international travels with his wife.
Google Chat is an excellent messaging and collaboration service that works on Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari, and Mozilla Firefox. That said, Google Chat sometimes fails to load in the browser browser and displays error messages such as ‘Unable to load chat’ or ‘Trying to connect to chat.’
While the source of your problem can vary, resolving issues with Google Chat is easy. We’ve compiled a list of effective fixes to get Google Chat to work in a browser.
1. Check Your Internet Connection
A sluggish or weak internet connection could prevent Google Chat from loading on your browser. It’s a good idea to rule out any issues with your network connection before you try anything else. For that, open another tab in your browser and run a quick internet speed test .
If there are no issues with your internet, continue with the fixes below.
2. Disable Browser Extensions
One of your third-party extensions may be interfering and blocking the Google Chat. To rule out that possibility, you can disable all your browser extensions and then try to use Google Chat again.
To disable extensions in Chrome, type chrome://extensions in the URL bar at the top and press Enter. Then, use the toggles to turn off all the extensions.
For those using Microsoft Edge, type edge://extensions in the address bar and hit Enter. Then, turn off the toggles next to the extensions.
Restart your browser after this and try to use Google Chat again. If you don’t encounter any errors, enable your extensions one by one until the issue occurs again. Once you find the problematic extension, consider removing it from your browser.
3. Sign Out and Sign Back In
Google Chat may fail to load your conversations and display errors like ‘Trying to connect to chat’ if there’s an issue with your account. A quick way to fix this is to sign out of your Google account and sign back in. This will refresh your session and resolve any account-related issues causing the problem.
Step 1: Open Google Chat in your web browser. If Google Chat does not load, try visiting Google Search or Gmail.
Step 2: Click on your profile icon at the top-right corner and select ‘Sign out of all accounts.’
After you complete the above steps, you will be logged out of all Google services, including Google Chat. After that, sign back into your account and try to use Google Chat again.
4. Reset Site Permissions
Certain Google Chat features may stop working in your browser due to incorrectly configured site permissions. Instead of reviewing each site permission one by one, it’s easier to reset them. To do so, open Google Chat on your browser. Click the padlock icon on the left of the URL and click the Reset permissions button.
Refresh the webpage and try to use Google Chat again.
5. Make Sure JavaScript Is Enabled
Have you disabled JavaScript in your browser? That could prevent certain websites, such as Google Chat, from loading properly. You can re-enable JavaScript in your browser to check if that gets things moving again.
Enable JavaScript in Chrome
Step 1: In Google Chrome, type chrome://settings/content/javascript in the address bar and press Enter.
Enable JavaScript in Edge
Step 1: In Microsoft Edge, type edge://settings/content/javascript in the address bar and hit Enter.
Step 2: Turn on the toggle next to Allowed.
6. Clear Browser Cache and Cookies
Corrupt or outdated browser cache data is a common cause of browser-related issues. So, if Google Chat is still not loading at this point, try clearing the browser cache and cookies. Since it’s completely safe to clear this data, there’s no reason not to try it.
To clear the browser cache in Chrome or Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + Delete keys on your keyboard.
In the ‘Clear browsing data’ panel, click the drop-down menu to select All time. Then, tick the checkboxes that read ‘Cookies and other site data’ and ‘Cached images and files.’ Then, hit the Clear data button.
Likewise, you can clear cache and cookies data in Safari , Firefox , or any other browser. Following that, the Google Chat should load without any issues.
Connect Without Interruptions
One of the above fixes should get Google Chat to function properly on your browser. However, if nothing works, there might be an issue with your browser. You can try using Google Chat in a different browser and see if that works.

Thank you very much. “DISABLE BROWSER EXTENSIONS” worked for me.
No “danger” but then you need to log into every bank and every bill and every social media all over again so the sites will recognize your device and make you enter authenticaion code. did NOT fix my problem and cost me 2 hours of time
None of these suggestions worked for me. I did enable my extensions after establishing that turning them off did not make Chat work, so if I needed to to that in conjuction with something else… /dunno. Google chat still does not work on my desktop. At least it still works on my phone.
Both the Google account and Google chat is not open on my phone and have try a lot just to get rid of this issue but it seem the same problem

How to use ChatGPT in your browser with the right extensions
Beyond using OpenAI's ChatGPT at its website or through an app , you can access it directly from your browser via an extension. Such extensions as ChatGPT for Chrome, ChatGPT everywhere, Merlin, Monica, WebChatGPT, AI Anywhere for ChatGPT, and Talk-to-ChatGPT integrate with OpenAI's chatbot so that you can more quickly and easily submit your requests and prompts.
Also: ChatGPT fraud is on the rise: Here's what to watch out for
As these extensions communicate with ChatGPT, you'll typically need an account with OpenAI. If you don't yet have one, head to the ChatGPT sign in/sign up page and click the Sign up button. The options accessible with each extension may also vary based on whether you have a free or paid ChatGPT account. Now let's check out a few extensions.
ChatGPT for Chrome
Available for Chrome and Edge through the Chrome Web Store , ChatGPT for Chrome provides a convenient window through which you can chat.
Also: The best AI chatbots to try
After installing and clicking the extension, you'll be asked to sign into your OpenAI account. Type your request at the prompt, and the AI bot will respond. Continue to pose more questions or tap the plus icon to start a new chat. To access your history, tap the hamburger icon in the upper left. From here, you can rename a chat or remove it completely.
ChatGPT everywhere
Designed for Firefox , ChatGPT everywhere provides access to ChatGPT via a left sidebar in the browser. Select the extension's icon, click the link for OpenAI ChatGPT, and then log into your ChatGPT account. Type your request at the prompt. After the response appears, type additional requests or click the plus icon to start over with a new chat.
Also: How to use ChatGPT to build your resume
Click the dropdown menu for Chat everywhere and you can switch the content in the sidebar to your bookmarks, history, or synced tabs, and move the sidebar to the right. Wait, there's more. Available from the extension's icon, an entry for Prompts takes you to different webpages with suggestions for prompts. Plus, the developer is working on access to Bing Chat and Google Bard.
Merlin ChatGPT Assistant
Supported in Chrome and Edge through the Chrome Web Store , Merlin ChatGPT Assistant comes in a free edition that limits you to 51 queries per day. If you want more, upgrading to Merlin Pro will cost you $19 a month to start and then ramp up from there depending on your needs.
Also: I asked ChatGPT, Bing, and Bard what worries them. Google's AI went Terminator on me
After installing and accessing the extension, you're asked to create a free account to use it. To activate Merlin, just press Ctrl+M in Windows. A sidebar opens on the right for you to enter your query. Type your prompt at the bottom of the sidebar and fire away. After Merlin displays the response, you can ask it to expand on its answer or start a new chat. A History list displays your past prompts, while a Settings page lets you change the language, user interface, and other options.
Designed for Chrome and Edge , Monica is another ChatGPT extension with both free and paid versions . The freebie limits you to 30 queries per day. A starter plan priced at $9 per month grants you 2,500 queries for the month, a boost plan costing $19 a month ups that to 8,000 each month, and an elite plan with a price tag of $39 a month doles out an unlimited number of queries.
Also: How to use the new Bing (and how it's different from ChatGPT)
As with Merlin, you trigger Monica by pressing Ctrl+M on your keyboard. The interface pops up as a sidebar on the left. Monica lets you choose from two types of queries. A chat mode allows you to post a series of questions, while a compose mode lets you ask Monica to write something for you. With compose mode, you can control the type of response by selecting a length, format, tone, and language. Choose the mode you wish to use and then type or speak your query.
Monica displays the response. You can rate the answer by giving it a thumbs up or thumbs down, edit the text to fine-tune it, and share or copy the response. Monica also points you to a history of your chats, so you can refer back to any previous conversations. Plus, a Settings page lets you modify the shortcut, sidebar, and other elements.
Supported in Chrome , Firefox , and Edge through the Chrome Web Store , WebChatGPT takes you to the ChatGPT website but offers a spin by including search results from the web in the response. Type your question or request at the prompt. Depending on the information you seek, the response will display links to three different sites by default and then provide further details in its answer. This can be helpful if you'd like to track down the source of the info provided by ChatGPT.
Also: How to make ChatGPT provide sources and citations
At the prompt, type a slash if you want to limit the results to a specific website or page. From the bottom toolbar, you can turn web access on or off and change the number of web-based results. You're also able to modify the time to include results from the past day, month, or year. And you can limit results to a specific country or region.
AI Anywhere for ChatGPT
Designed for Chrome , Firefox , and Edge through the Chrome Web Store , AI Anywhere for ChatGPT offers a window in which you type your requests and see the responses. But even cooler, the extension works in a context sensitive way. This means that with AI Anywhere active, you can select and right-click text on any webpage. An AI Anywhere menu item then pops up with options to use ChatGPT to explain, translate, or summarize the selected text. You can even add your own custom context-sensitive commands.
Also: How to use Midjourney to generate amazing images
To use AI Anywhere for ChatGPT, click the icon for the extension and type your request at the prompt. Alternatively, select any text on the screen that you'd like to have explained or translated by ChatGPT and then submit the prompt. After the response appears, continue the chat or start a new one.
Talk-to-ChatGPT
Designed for Chrome and Edge , Talk-to-ChatGPT lets you submit your request by speaking instead of typing. After installing this one, sign into the ChatGPT home page. With the extension active, a small window appears at the top right of the screen. Click the window's Start button, give your microphone access, and then speak your request. The response from ChatGPT is then spoken using text to speech.
Also: How to write better ChatGPT prompts
From the small window, you can turn the voice dictation and text to speech on or off as well as skip the response being read by the extension. Another button takes you to the settings screen where you're able to change the language, the AI voice, the speed and pitch, and other options.

Make ChatGPT Work for You With These Browser Extensions
It's hard to escape ChatGPT right now, with the conversational artificial intelligence bot taking on everything from web search to essay writing . More than 100 million people have tried out ChatGPT since it launched.
Whether you're using ChatGPT for free or paying for ChatGPT Plus ($20 a month), the impressiveness of its text-generating capabilities aren't really matched by its interface, which sticks largely to the basics.
That's where third-party browser extensions come in: They can help you get easier access to ChatGPT from other websites, add missing features such as a chat exporter, and suggest better prompts for getting better answers out of the AI bot.
These extensions are all compatible with the latest versions of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, except where stated.
Merlin sits in your browser and puts ChatGPT right at your fingertips, ready to spring into action at a moment's notice: Whether you need to compose a reply to a social media post or summarize a long block of text, Merlin can help you out.
The Ctrl+M (Windows) or Cmd+M (macOS) keyboard shortcut is how Merlin is activated once you've selected a block of text. You then need to tell Merlin what you want it to get ChatGPT to do: summarize, reply, write, or whatever it is.
For example, you can highlight all the text in an email and get Merlin/ChatGPT to compose a response. Having the chatbot right inside your browser makes it really convenient to use, though you are limited to 31 requests per day.
You don't have to wait for Google's own version of ChatGPT to arrive, because ChatGPT for Google shows results from the chatbot alongside the standard results from Google whenever you run a search.
Clearly this is going to work better for some queries than others: ChatGPT can't tell you the latest sports scores, but it can explain what DNA is. Make sure that you're currently signed into your ChatGPT account in your browser to get the responses to load.
The ChatGPT box is neatly integrated alongside the standard Google search results, and you can launch a separate ChatGPT conversation right from it. You can also have the add-on run manually rather than automatically, if you don't want it on every search.
Get ChatGPT right next to your Google results with ChatGPT for Google.
Enhanced ChatGPT does exactly what its name suggests: It adds some handy new features to the basic ChatGPT interface, including an option to export your chats in Markdown format and a selection of tools to help you with your prompts.
Some of those prompt tools include triggers for finding images on the web, getting travel advice, generating translations, and programming in JavaScript. They'll pop up immediately once you've installed the extension.
Matt Jancer
Boone Ashworth
Scott Gilbertson
Look for the new Export Chat option down in the lower left corner when you've set up the add-on. You don't get anything in the way of export options, but it can be helpful to have a copy of your chats to refer to.
If you're planning to do any writing using ChatGPT on the web, from emails to social media posts, then WritingMate can help. You can launch it via a Ctrl+M (Windows) or Cmd+M (macOS) keyboard shortcut, or use the floating icon that appears on the right of the browser window.
You're able to use ChatGPT in any way you like, right in the webpages you're looking at, and there are some helpful prompts included with the extension too. ChatGPT responses can be swiftly tweaked and refined as well.
If you need more than 10 messages per day or longer messages, you can sign up for a $15-per-month premium account. The access you get to the tool for free should tell you whether or not you're going to find it useful.
There's no doubt that ChatGPT is an incredible bit of technology, but it also has its limitations: It doesn't have access to the most up-to-date information, and can't search the web as such.
WebChatGPT (for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox) fixes that, dropping in traditional web search results alongside AI responses in the ChatGPT interface. It also tries to integrate both types of responses to give you something coherent and useful.
This approach works better for some queries than others: Try prompts such as "Who is the President?" and "give me the latest Wired headlines" to see the difference that the extension makes to ChatGPT.
Use WebChatGPT to bring the latest web search results into ChatGPT.
For some of us, it's much easier to talk than to type, and Promptheus enables you to talk to ChatGPT just as you would with a real person. It may give you a whole new perspective on interacting with AI.
You use Promptheus from inside the ChatGPT interface, and you simply press and hold the space bar when you're ready to talk. There are a few extension settings you can play around with too, such as the option to send prompts automatically once you stop talking.
As an added bonus, the extension also gives you easy access to ChatGPT from any webpage—just click on the add-on icon in your browser toolbar to start interacting with the AI bot.
One of the most important features that ChatGPT is missing is the ability to get content out of the ChatGPT interface into other places—you're pretty much limited to the good old copy-paste method.
ChatGPT Export and Share (which works in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox) is here to solve the problem. It takes a little bit more time in terms of setting it up in your browser, but full instructions are provided, and the end results are worth it.
Once the extension is installed, you'll see new export buttons down below the prompt box. You can save your chats as images and PDFs, and there's also the option to create shareable links to them.

How to use bing chat on safari.
Bing Chat is finally available on browsers other than Edge.
It's fair to say that AI has blown up. From the moment that the power of ChatGPT first reached the masses, you haven't been able to go anywhere or read anything without AI being mentioned at some point.
Whether AI ends up destroying humanity or just making us its slave remains to be seen, but what's certain is that the natural language processing tools that make use of AI technology are an enormous leap forward.
One of the easiest ways to take advantage of AI tech is through a chatbot such as Bing Chat . Until now, if you wanted to use Bing Chat in a browser, that browser needed to be Microsoft Edge . There is good news if you prefer Chrome or Safari, however: Bing Chat is being launched on those browsers too. If you're a Mac user, here's how to use Bing Chat on Safari.
What is Bing Chat?
Bing Chat is an AI chatbot created by Microsoft that is an additional feature of the Bing search engine. It allows you to ask questions and receive responses in natural language rather than typing your query into the search engine. It's based on the popular ChatGPT tech (via OpenAI) but allows you to make use of the powerful text-generation AI system within the Bing search engine.
What can Bing Chat do?
Instead of typing a query into Bing's search engine and then choosing from a list of search results, Bing Chat allows you to hold a conversation with the AI chatbot to access the information that you need. You're not just limited to asking for information, however. You can ask Bing Chat to do pretty much anything, such as suggesting recipes, producing AI-generated images , summarising blog posts, or writing you a resignation letter. The only real limit is that you're restricted to five replies on the same topic to avoid Bing Chat getting confused and wandering into questionable territory. You're also limited to 50 questions in total per day.
Which browsers offer Bing Chat?
Initially, Bing Chat was only available in Microsoft's Edge browser, apparently in an effort to get more people to use it. However, a report from Windows Latest first indicated that the chatbot was being introduced to Bing's search engine on Google Chrome and Apple's Safari. The feature is currently being rolled out, however, so won't be available to every Chrome or Safari user. At the time of writing, we were able to use Bing Chat on Chrome but were not yet able to access it on Safari.
Is Bing Chat on Safari the same as on Edge?
Bing Chat on Chrome and Safari is almost exactly the same as on Edge, but there is one key difference. In Edge, your query can be up to 4,000 characters long. On Chrome and Safari, this is limited to 2,000 characters.
The other big difference is that if you're already using Bing Chat on Edge, you won't be hit with the requests to install Edge that pop up when you're using Bing Chat on Chrome or Safari.
If you have access to Bing Chat on Safari, then accessing and using the chatbot is a piece of cake.
- Open Safari and navigate to Bing.com .
- At the top of the window, click Chat .
- Type your query into the dialogue box and press Enter to submit it. You're limited to 2,000 characters.
- When you receive your response, you can reply to it again to clarify your query or gain further information.
- When you reach five responses on the same query, you'll need to click the Broom icon to start a new topic.
ChatGPT is an incredibly powerful tool , but there are a few barriers to using it, such as needing to register an account and accept a list of disclaimers. Bing Chat gives you access to the power of ChatGPT in a much more user-friendly format. If you're an Apple Mac user who uses Safari by default, being able to access Bing Chat directly from your browser is very welcome news.
