Our organization helps fund life-changing technologies, medical research, innovation and professional education at the QEII Health Sciences Centre.

We work closely with the QEII Health Sciences Centre and Nova Scotia Health to identify the Atlantic region’s most pressing healthcare needs and priorities. Nova Scotia Health acts as our region’s administrative body and operates the QEII and community-based programs. The QEII is Atlantic Canada’s specialized healthcare and medical research centre, where thousands of people deliver exceptional care every day.

We invest in our health, the health of our loved ones and the health of our community. Here are a few recent updates on areas we impact - major advances with equipment and technologies, patient comfort, research and education.

QEII Centre: Pioneering Sustainability in London Event Landscape

Originally constructed in 1986, the prestigious London events venue, The QEII Centre , was not initially designed with sustainability at the forefront of its priorities. However, in recent years, the dedicated team has undertaken extensive efforts to address this oversight. While acknowledging imperfections, the venue has successfully implemented a variety of initiatives to advance its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.

As Earth Day 2024 approaches, James Bogle, Head of Marketing and Communications at The QEII Centre, highlights the top five sustainability practices adopted by the venue to operate in the most environmentally responsible manner possible.

• Eco-conscious Approach to Plastics

Aligned with this year’s Earth Day theme of “planet vs plastics,” the venue has focused on significantly reducing single-use plastic consumption. Straws, cups, and bottles have been entirely replaced with reusable and recyclable alternatives such as aluminum cans, glass, and ceramic containers. This proactive measure substantially diminishes non-biodegradable waste destined for landfills.

• Sustainable Catering Practices

Recognizing the substantial impact of food-related activities on sustainability, the venue collaborates with QEII Taste, its in-house catering partner, renowned for delivering both quality and eco-friendliness. With a 50% plant-based menu and the elimination of beef, the catering company prioritizes locally sourced, seasonal ingredients while striving to minimize food waste. Climate-conscious menu options are standard for all events, accompanied by climate labels to enhance environmental awareness.

• Bee Conservation Efforts

A notable feature of the venue is its beehives, established through a partnership with BeesMax. This initiative not only contributes to the preservation of the UK bee population but also fosters rewilding and educates visitors on environmental conservation. As a result of the project’s success, QEII Centre now produces its own honey, further supporting sustainability endeavors.

• Sustainable Transport Solutions

Acknowledging the necessity of travel for visitors, the venue promotes the use of public transportation and offers virtual tours to minimize carbon footprints. With convenient access to London’s extensive transport network, including nearby tube and mainline stations, guests are encouraged to choose eco-friendly commuting options. Additionally, bicycle racks are available for employees, complementing the center’s commitment to sustainable transportation.

• Energy Efficiency Measures

Given the substantial energy requirements of its expansive facilities, the venue prioritizes energy efficiency to reduce environmental impact and operational costs. Monitoring water and energy usage annually, the center has implemented various measures such as motion-sensitive LED lighting and water-saving fixtures to minimize consumption.

In summary, while acknowledging the ongoing journey towards sustainability, The QEII Centre takes pride in its progress towards achieving net-zero emissions. Leveraging its strengths, embracing innovation, and influencing change where possible, the venue aims to inspire both clients and peers to embark on their sustainability journeys.

Space to Showcase

The QEII Centre is a popular central London exhibition venue, with its adaptable spaces and operational expertise. Holding up to 2,500 people, it can accommodate all types of event from private displays to trade shows, product launches and corporate expositions.

Flexible Spaces

Our third and fifth floors, in particular, provide ample space and flexibility. They can be combined in several ways to create large shell schemes or custom-built areas, or smaller module table-top exhibition spaces.

The self-contained third floor has 2,142 square meters of flexible space. With moveable walls, it is the ideal setting for joint conferences and exhibitions. Clients including the recent Commonwealth Heads of Government, The International Maritime Purchasing Association and This Can Happen have benefited from this.

Central Location

Location is key for your audience and the Centre is well served by public transport. Westminster, St. James’s and Victoria stations are all within walking distance and the nearest airport is only 26 minutes away.

QEII Taste  has over 30 years’ experience catering for large events and understands the logistics and flexibility of service you require. From all-day refreshments to working lunches, they have menus to suit. The team will be pleased to assist you in choosing the best option and will fulfil all dietary requirements and requests.
