Derby branch,intu centre

Derby branch, intu centre, booked a hoilday December last year, £4500, to Maldivesfor a week, first thing flight was cancelled left us at Manchester 7 hours, connecting, we missed because of first delay. When we left surposed to be 3 in afternoon by boat, they changed it on the day to 11 in morning, to top it off when we arrived to check in they said the test we had wasn’t enough and we needed a pcr test, at a charge oh 590 dollars, which was a absolute nightmare, on arriving back in uk, was not needed, been down coop. Send emails to complain, only to be told Louise is not available, still not heard a thing, might as well book yourself, terrible, hope they read this and contact me with reply

Unprofessional and total shambles!

Googled coop travel foreign currency exchange rates. Clicked on the result that clearly say foreign currency and it takes you to the holiday selling page! So I ask the on line chat. The answer is I can’t give you that information on the chat!!! All I want is to see the exchange rates before I decide to buy them and all they want to do is sell me a holiday! Total shambles!

Thank you for your feedback Bob. Firstly, I am sorry for any inconvenience caused. Currency is not available and not a service we provide via our online website. We do however have a foreign exchange bureau in our local coop travel stores. Should you have a query moving forward, please contact your local store by popping in or via telephone (contact numbers are displayed on our website) My colleagues in store will be able to provide you the rate for that day, and any advice on currencies that you may have. Including ordering any not available in store. I hope this helps. Your Coop Travel, customer services.

Online booking - truly shocking customer service

Read review pages I’ve booked online & have disputed number of issues for a month. If you are lucky to get through to them on the telephone they will then say a manager will call you back and they don’t. I have received emails from them still not answering or even resolving my questions. When booking online take screenshots of every page that you click on because they ask you proof even though when the documentation arrives you have to ring them for discrepancies I’ve been trying to ring them for a whole month and they still failed to deal with my questions. When booking online it took a further 24hrs for them to confirm booking but worrying when you can monies pending to come out of your bank. I am now pursuing them with trading standards ATOL and ABTA I have given them plenty of opportunity to resolve this matter before I take to social media and then again failed to respond leaving me with no other option.

Booked a holiday to Honduras

Booked a holiday to Honduras. On arrival our luggage didn't turn up. Our tour guides contacted the airport & airline daily but no news. The day before we were due to depart we were told that our luggage had turned up. We arrived at the airport the following day only to discover that only one case had turned up but the other was on its way from Mexico. It turned up about an hour later. When we put in a claim with the Co-op Insurance they asked for lots of information & proof from the tour guides & company which we duly obliged. There was a further request for information. Finally after 2 months, after responding to their requests & involving the tour guides & lodge recption staff, they suddenly decided to tell us that delayed baggage isn't covered, only the contents which we could claim for any purchases which we made. We didn't have any as the lodge were so good & laundered our one change of clothes daily free of charge but nothing could be done about our wet footwear we had to put on everyday due to it raining for 4 days. If they had told us at the start that they were not liable & we should contact & make a claim from the airline it would have saved a lot of time & effort. We would also have been in date to claim from the airlines,

The Co-op does not do travel - they pass it on

We booked with Co-op travel because this was a massive holiday to us going to Australia, of which they then contracted it to Gold Medal ? Who did not contact the airlines , of the 4 week holiday booked to Australia to visit our son and with flight confusion and cancellations we lost 5 days including a half way stop off at Singapore of which we paid the Co-op for the hotel- on return to uk and 1 year later, basically tough luck - they all backed each other up with the small print including the airlines , I have now erased it from my mind and in future will just book it all myself, what a huge waste of money. Ref the reply from the Co-op below, please contact us so we can look into it, this is what we actually done on our return and the reply was nothing to do with us and if you take it any further we shall fight you all the way - contact Gold Medal - Gold Medal said take it up with the airlines- airlines said nothing to do with them Snow in Munich caused staff shortages- end of.

Scammed 7k for my honeymoon. Sutton Coldfield branch (Birmingham)

We booked with this travel agent to fly out to Bali for our honeymoon. We spent 7k in total and we were promised we did not need to be covid vaccinated as per the gov website. On the day of travel we could not board our flight because we did not have covid passes so we had to get sent home. On top of that we did not get a refund and we were told it was our fault for not checking. Surely we paid extra money so we didn’t need to deal with this and no mistakes to be made. But that was not the case. We also had travel insurance and couldn’t get a refund either because again it was our fault for not checking our documents! So all in all don’t use these travel agent because they scam your money and can’t deliver customer service. We won’t get this money back and it is very unfair!

Date of experience : 19 September 2022

Thank you for your Feedback. Please be advised our records show this matter was resolved with the Tour Operator Gold medal, and that we were able to help with recovering a refund from them. Kind regards, Your Coop Travel, customer services.

31st September

Like many others we have had our holiday cancelled due to COVID-19. Up until the cancellation Co-Op Travel seemed caring and trustworthy, following the cancellation by TUI they seemed to forget their values: democracy, openness, equality, and social responsibility. We were initially advised that we should expect a refund within 28 days of the date of departure, this was confirmed numerous time. However after several chase emails to Co-Op Travel and eventually a visit in person we started to feel that Co-Op Travel have no regard for their customers, they certainly do not keep to their values. On asking the manager for a date of when we could expect the refund two separate dates were advised on which they had "claimed the refund", when I pressed further, "I need a date of when I can expect to received this," she waved her arms around flippantly and said, "you want a date, 31st September." We all know that doesn't exist... incredibly professional service I do not think not to mention very, very unhelpful! Avoid at all costs, they are as nice as pie until something goes wrong!

Avoid Co-Op Travel - appalling customer service

I will be never using Co-Op Travel to book another holiday and I strongly advise everyone else to Also do the same , their customer service is atrocious to say the least. Booked our holiday, paid a sum off at the point of booking via debit card, only to find out later that 2 void transactions had been processed at the same as the authorised transaction sending me overdrawn and unable to access any funds in my account or pay direct debits and bills. Could have been sorted out easily with a simple email but instead Co-Op chose to ignore us until our bank sorted it out 5 days later. A week after our initial complaint email we telephoned the complaints department to be called liars and receive an abject refusal for them do anything about it and blame everyone else for the mistake, including us. That’s the thanks you get for supporting your local high street - I’ll go direct to the tour operator in future.

Mavericks - Booked a holiday 2019 to Maldives Departing 3rd May 2020.. Very efficient at letting me know when I needed to pay the holiday by and even rang me 1 week before the payment was due to remind me!.. However since the holiday was cancelled due to Covid19, which incidentally was left to the last minute to tell me even though the island we were travelling to had put on their Instagram page the island was closed to at least Until 1st July 2020 a couple of weeks prior I have been fobbed off constantly. They haven’t replied to e-mails. I’ve spoken to various people in customer “service?” 1 said I’d get my refund in a couple of weeks which is now in the fourth week and still waiting!! Another said on the 5th May they had received the money back from Kuoni on the 4th May (Amazingly enough) and said somebody will be in touch shortly, still waiting!! Another said 13th May she understands my frustration and they haven’t had the money from Kuoni. When I said I was told they had she then back tracked and said she didn’t have that information. So who told her they didn’t have the refund off Kuoni? She either here’s voices, has a crystal ball by her phone or likes to dig big holes for herself!.. She did promise to get refunds to ring me in the afternoon it’s now 5.40pm and guess what? Yep,.. Still waiting!! But she understands my frustration! Don’t trust this company at all and I’d seriously avoid at all costs. I’ll keep you informed of this ongoing Saga.

USELESS WHEN THINGS WENT WRONG

i have booked and traveled with the coop 5 times now (droylsden branch) without any problems , until the last time, when i got caught up in the volcano ash fiasco, and it is with regret that i say -YOU ONLY FIND OUT HOW GOOD OR BAD A FIRM IS WHEN THINGS GO WRONG-untill then i would have recommended them, but the terrible service and advice that i received in the wake of this disaster shows how you can be deceived, they did absolutely nothing to help me and what they did do they did wrong despite all their talk.. i ended up over a thousand pounds out of pocket.

AVOID AVOID!

AVOID AVOID!! Don’t ever enter the Solihull branch!! We were misold a holiday by Lyndsey the MANAGER. She has no idea how to sell a holiday, but instead knows how to get a bonus. She completely lied about our hotel and took no record of our requests (Health conditions). We told them many times my daughter had autism but clearly they must of forgot. We still to this day do not know where all the notes went that she wrote down in front of us, abit strange how they vanished? Or Is that for her benefit because of a complaint going in. All the staff seem to have amnesia!! Our hotel was dirty, old, falling apart and more like a youth hostel. Nothing like the glossy pictures that she showed us. She said it was a quiet hotel- When coach loads of 60 school kids from all over the UK and Spain arrived daily. It’s a pity we weren’t told this was the busiest time for the hotel to be rammed with school parties. Is this what you call being told by a travel agent manger “it’s a good time to go if you don’t mind being around the pool mostly with the elderly” obviously this person doesn’t hold much regard for the elderly as it was completely false and in our case we couldn’t even get in the pool, if you closed your eyes you could easily imagine that you were at a Butlins holiday camp!! Does she even know the hotels shes selling or does it actually matter to her as all she sees is her bonus. Do not come here as you will be told a load of lies and I guarantee you, you will be out of pocket and wished you had walked straight past this particular travel agent. It is disgusting if this is how they treat people and let’s hope for all those that have suffered and have read this review that they either go under ASAP or they stop selling holidays and concentrate on just selling there fruit and veg at their supermarkets!!! This would be a really good one for Rip of Britain!!

“disability discrimination ”.

written by shopdirect on 17/07/2023

Coop travel are absolutely incompetent in booking holidays over the phone. AVOID THEM AS YOU WILL END UP IN A COMPLETELY ADVERSE LOCATION. Erdington are the worst but other branches have also abused disability rights, and then hidden or deleted the evidence of their stupidity. There are some very thick people in this business that do their own thing and compromise able bodied and particular disabled customer, they completely misrepresent customers in either group. They should be taken legal action a# ABTA are equally biased and just want their dirty fingers on your money for their biased , dodgy arbitration scheme, often their board has member of travel agent on, wholly corrupt system, need to be put before parliamentary privileges committee. The head of CS is certainly not the sharpest too, in the box, doesn’t even know how to spell queue! Avoid them you will end up in hell, holiday ruined ,poorly and out of pocket, as they wear you down and have no intention of resolving your complaint , conceal evidence and are downright dishonest.

“City break Amsterdam”

written by Skaaps on 07/12/2017

I recently booked a surprise Birthday weekend in Amsterdam, Evesham branch. She was an absolute superstar and did everything for us including checking us in for our flight and went out of her way to find me the best deal. All our documents were ready to collect the day before along with a Birthday card for my wife. Thanks so much, what a pleasure and a huge surprise for my wife. I will DEFINITELY use Co op travel again. Many Thanks

“Different exchange rates!”

written by on 23/09/2016

Just discovered that if you walk into a branch of Co op travel and order foreign money, you get an inferior exchange rate than if you had ordered it online. The "kindly" assistant told me this when I queried it. I'm sure I would never have been told this if I hadn'd asked.

“Could have provided better after sales service”

written by on 28/04/2016

Booked holiday with delightful agent. So friendly and my kids were being a tad naughty and she kept them well entertained. Was happy with price and she sorted the airport parking. Since then the operator e mailed to say there would be building works going on while we were there. My husband is a builder so the last thing he wants is to go on holiday to a building site. Co op called after I complained to the operator and basically said well it's still the best hotel in lanzarote. Then we get a further e mail saying that the entertainment advertised won't take place anymore. No contact from co op at all and we feel ignored and ripped off.

“Exchange - Rip off”

written by on 29/01/2016

Just been ripped off for the first and last time by CO-OP Travel in Doncaster. I have used this branch for booking holidays for the last 10 years or so and have always had a great service and comparable rate to most other high street exchange bureaus. I exchanged cash for euro's stupidly without checking their rate first. The rate they use for cash now is vastly different to what they advertise and probably the lowest on the high street now. DO NOT USE without checking first!. They have had all the custom they are having from me that is for sure...

“Excellent service from Co-op Travel”

written by Jeremyk266 on 05/01/2016

Myself and three family members have just returned from a holiday to Tenerife, booked with C0-op Travel. I only booked one week before going. I looked at lots of websites and C0-op travel had some competitive holiday offers. The staff I spoke to on the phone were very friendly, helpful and efficient. All travel arrangements worked perfectly and the hotel was good value for the price. We had a great holiday and I am happy to recommend Co-op Travel.

“Had an amazing holiday booked with Coop Travel! ”

written by Marquese22 on 31/10/2015

Just got back from the most amazing holiday to Disneyland Paris booked with Coop Travel. The agents were all very friendly, service was great and I got a super deal! I would highly recommend this travel agent to anyone wanting to book a cheap package holiday. My trip to Disneyland was as magical as they said it would be, meeting my favourite Disney Characters and watching the Parade/Fireworks was the cherry on the top. The only downfall is that I only booked for one week, next time I will book for two weeks! I didn't hold back on any questions and requests, and the Coop agents were never short on answers or solutions to tailor my holiday to my exact wants and needs. If you don't ask, you don't get! All in all, Coop Travel are a very honest & reliable Travel Agent, and we are in the process of booking a huge group Ski Holiday 2016 with them already. Thank You so much!!!

“brilliant customer service”

written by maryg123 on 01/08/2015

Today my 2 daughters and I went into co-operative travel in solihull and we were very pleasantly surprised by how brilliant the staff were and the quality of the customer service. The adviser was brilliant! she found us a few good holidays and gave us all the relevant information that we needed. She gave us brochures to have a look through and said she will contact us after searching more, and i feel very content and happy that she will find us a holiday. She was very enthusiastic and a great contribution to your company! We will definitely be purchasing a holiday if she finds us one.

“Rip off Co-op”

written by Harmony187 on 15/06/2015

I have just been caught out with the Co-op's money exchange. Beware the rate shown in the window is for their card holders only the actual rate was the poorest in the town centre. Unless you read the notice very clearly they will give you vert poor value for money. I worked out the rate and rerurned to the shop tk cancel the transaction as they dont issue receipts any more- surprise surprise as all the transactions are stored in their system. Typical Co-op supposedly high ethics, very low morals.

“Rude on telephone”

written by Broussard42 on 19/02/2015

We booked our holiday by phone with someone but did not receive the details promised in the post,12 days after booking I phoned. I found that it had been posted to the wrong address. She said that she would phone back but there was no phone call, despite being told that I wanted the holiday details reposted to the correct address. She emailed the information but because of a comp problems the attachment was not working. I phoned after one hour and spoke to a male member with ?Australian/S. African accent, he was so rude, apparently the lady had gone home! There was no apology for posting to the wrong address.

They employ ill mannered people, who lie to you promise to phone then don’t. Waste of time waiting for them use another travel agent. They don’t deserve the revenue.

“Don't bother complaining”

written by beast5 on 20/09/2013

When taking the holiday out (Which I haven't been on yet) I managed to obtain a £50 discount. Great I thought!! However the pre-selected seats that I was told were included didn't appear on my invoice. I called back to be told these were not part of the package and I had to pay extra. After much talking and little action I raised a complaint 2 weeks after raising via email I was told that the department i'd emailed couldn't deal with the complaint but not to worry as if I replied to the exact same email address my complaint would be forwarded to the correct department??? Strange but I did it, received a response from the complaints team to say they needed 28 days to look into the complaint and not to worry. In excess of 28 days later I received a further response to say i'd contacted the wrong department (from a complaints email address) and to call a local rate number. I've now given them 7 days to sort themselves out or I'm going to ABTA. Shocking customer service. If this were a bank there'd be a mis-selling scandle but as travel agents arn't regulated properly it's likely i'll never get those reserve seats and if I cancel now I won't get a full refund.

Shopdirect's Response to beast5's Review

ABTA are Crony of theirs they always back the travel agent. Go to court

“will take your money with a smile”

written by MathewSpiller on 11/06/2013

What an absolutely rubbish organisation this is. I booked a holiday on Saturday to Disney World, Florida. I requested that we sit together on flights as two children coming with me and wife. This was added to my cost, or so I was told. Then they tell me that they had made a mistake and my holiday price would increase. Also when we went into the store we explained that we would be taking my step son with us and we were not 100% sure of the surname used on his passport. The agent told us that this was no problem, we should book the holiday and call the store on the following Monday to confirm his surname. When i called the store they told me there would have to be a charge for the name change! I tried calling customer services who said i need to talk to customer relations, so i called them, they said i needed to call pre departure and gave me another number. This number got me through to Thomas Cook! obviously they could not help but were keen to hear of the problems that we were experiencing, they said that they hear a lot of stories similar to mine. Really regretting dealing with them now, really dont trust that my holiday will be as booked. Even though the departure date is not until May 6th 2014 they have told me that if i cancel my holiday i will lose my £1002 deposit. So annoyed that i am still considering just walking away and loosing a grand. Solicitors will be contacting them this week! Please do not use this company i believe that they deliberately mislead you and fail to explain any terms an conditions.

Shopdirect's Response to MathewSpiller's Review

Yes they pocket your money and slam the door, don’t give a fig about customer

“SHAMBOLIC!”

written by on 10/12/2011

I have booked our holidays with co-op travel in Rochdale for the last 10yrs. This year, I needed to know if our Esta was still valid for our trip to Florida--not the most difficult of questions?? How wrong i was, one member of staff told me i would have to alter the details on it, because last year we went to a different state in the US. Another staff member told me, no, she was wrong, it was valid and just leave it. Not the conflicting answer I wanted to here a week from departure. I then asked for money to be put on my cash passport, the pathetic answer was 'you'll have to come back next Tuesday- no here can do them today (Saturday)!!!As i was leaving the shop--furious, one member of staff said she was'nt sure how to do the cash passport, but she could ring up, get the code, and HAVE A GO!!!! That answer did not exacty fill me with confidence, so i went straight to Thomas Cook who obliged immediately after laughing at the debarcle i had just encountered. I will never book a holiday again with Co-op Travel.

“call centre is useless”

written by on 04/11/2011

I've just called co-op travel as I could not make any booking online (I'm travelling with infant). First operator put me on hold after 5 sec of conversation!!! Phone went dead. Another one checked just one offer, according to him it was not available and he didn't even try any alternatives!! I have no chance to find it by myself online as option for travellers with infats is not available. And call centre people can't wait to get rid of your phone!!!! Avoid if possible!!!!

Incompetent staff throughout

“no ownership”

written by EAppleby1960 on 11/10/2011

Although we had a really nice rep in the Liverpool store it has been a mare trying to get certain details sorted and we are due to travel shortly but have still not been given an answer over who from, when and where our tickets are coming from? Co-op have sold the holiday on behalf of Thompson and despite having paid for all the holiday upfront getting a) a straight answer and b) someone to call back with any answer is proving to be an up hill struggle. If (with months of planning) things are still not sorted out with days before travel is doesnt bode well for our confidence once on holiday. Fingers crossed.

Highest-rated cafes in Medford, according to Yelp

From the first coffee houses in the Ottoman Empire to Boston's London Coffee House, cafes have always been an egalitarian place to gather, sip, and share ideas, many of which have changed the world.

During the Enlightenment, cafes would regularly entertain the likes of Voltaire, Rousseau, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and Isaac Newton. Later, Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre would spend hours in cafes, pondering their works and holding court alongside other intellectuals.

Needless to say, coffee and cafes beget some revolutionary ideas; sipping a cup may even be a political act. When settlers dumped tea into the Boston Harbor to send a message to the British empire, tea became a British loyalist's drink, and coffee became a popular substitute. Unsurprisingly, Boston's London Coffee House opened in 1689, was soon renamed the American Coffee House. Later on in Philadelphia, Merchant Coffee House, also known as the City Tavern, would host the likes of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Paul Revere, as well as witness an early reading of the Declaration of Independence.

Many other coffee shops steeped in history abound in the United States, including New York City's Caffe Reggio. Founded in 1927, it was the first to serve cappuccino in the country, as well as one of the first to use a La Pavoni espresso machine. New Orleans' Cafe du Monde, founded in 1862, is a fixture in the French Quarter for its coffee and beignets.

Whether it's for a cup of Joe, a heady conversation, or simply a place to start the day, cafes have become part of our personal landmarks, so where have others gone to find their refuge or perhaps their perfect dose of caffeine? Stacker compiled a list of the highest-rated cafes in Medford using data from Yelp . Rankings factor in the average rating and number of reviews. It also offers travel insurance under the name Travel Insured International. Included among our guide on the best international travel insurance , C&F Travel Insured offers comprehensive coverage with unique add-ons that distinguishes itself from many of the best travel insurance companies .

While policies aren't particularly low-cost for most single travelers, they're exceedingly cheap for families traveling with kids as kids are heavily discounted under the Protector Edge plan and completely free under the Protector plan.

C&F Travel Insured also has an annual multi-trip policy which has an optional cancel for any reason upgrade. It's noteworthy since most annual plans don't offer CFAR upgrades. It also offers medical emergency coverage for pre-existing conditions, which is also uncommon among annual plans.

C&F Travel Insured International vs Credit Card Travel Insurance

Buying insurance through a travel insurance company like C&F Travel Insured is one of many ways to get coverage. However, travel insurance may also be a perk included in your credit card. It's essential to check if any of your credit cards offer travel insurance and if the coverage is sufficient to meet your needs.

A separate travel insurance policy can help you fill gaps in your credit card's travel insurance coverage . For instance, many credit cards offer trip cancellation and interruption coverage but not medical coverage. C&F Travel Insured's Travel Medical Protector plan may be a good addition if you only need to add medical-related coverage.

From Road Trips to Staycations, Here’s Why RVshare Is Our Go-To for Festival Camping

By Tim Chan

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission.

When it comes to traveling, few things are as stressful as finding a place to stay — and a way to get there. But as the summer travel season gets underway, savvy adventurers are discovering a better way to get around, that offers convenience, flexibility and a surprisingly good night’s rest.

That’s RVshare , the largest community for RV owners and renters, which offers more than 100,000 vehicles nationwide that travelers can book for road trips, tailgates and camping getaways alike. We recently took a vehicle from RVshare to Stagecoach , and it turned out to be the best traveling decision we could have made.

Founded in 2013, RVshare offers a variety of recreational vehicles for rent, from trailers and Airstreams, to vans and luxury motorcoaches. You can search by location, dates, number of guests, and other preferences, like a specific style of vehicle or something that’s suitable for kids and pets.

For our Stagecoach trip, we selected a luxe, 43-foot, fifth wheel camper , that came with a full kitchen, sitting room, two bathrooms and enough room to comfortably sleep six (no, seriously). While RVs often (unfairly) have a reputation of being pedestrian and basic, this was glamping at its finest, and we were spoiled with more space and amenities that we could have imagined (think working electric fireplace, massage chairs and a master bathroom with his-and-her sinks).

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

Our RV was owned by Al, who drove the motorhome up from Temecula, a small town about 60 miles north of San Diego. Super friendly and accommodating, Al was quick to walk us through the trailer settings and help us get settled in. While you can correspond with the owners by messaging them on the RVshare site, we felt comfortable enough to give Al our number, and he texted throughout the weekend to make sure we were okay.

This is a good point in the story to mention that if you’ve ever been hesitant to travel in an RV, RVshare completely takes the intimidation factor away. Everything is broken down for you on their website, from the size of the vehicle to kitchen appliances and entertainment options (our RV had a big-screen TV that tucked down into a cabinet when not in use). The descriptions are accompanied by clear and accurate full-color photos of the interior and exterior of every rental option, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

2024 ACM Awards: How to Watch the Show and Performances Online

Indiana fever vs. new york liberty: how to watch the wnba game online, dive into nct dream's dreamscape with casetify's latest collection, donna summer's estate reaches settlement with kanye west over alleged 'theft' of 'i feel love', chiefs kicker spreads antisemitic lies in benedictine college graduation speech, cardi b on proving her greatness: ‘i’m that bitch, and y’all fucking know it’, 2024 acm awards: the complete winners list.

An RV also provides flexibility, whether you want to cook your own meals, have a place to entertain friends, or simply get into nature and explore places where hotels cannot be found. An RV offers more amenities and better comfort than camping, and more versatility than a traditional hotel stay.

We knew we would have a good time at Stagecoach but we were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked our RV too. Coupled with the amenities and activities at the RV resort (think everything from a brand new pickleball court to an outdoor pool and sundeck), it was almost a bonus attraction for our stay. Of course, most of our weekend was spent at the actual festival, where we jammed out to Post Malone and Miranda Lambert, but the experience was enough to make us want to book an RV again for a proper road trip or staycation. As Lambert sang on stage about her “Hell on Wheels,” we were reminded that our RV was anything but. And the only thing better than staying there, was knowing we were just a few clicks away from doing it all again soon.

Amazing customer service always

Amazing customer service always, thank you for another incredible holiday this time to Costa Adeji Tenerife! Recommend anyone looking to book their holiday to go through Co-op travel Braintree. Fay, Donna, Helen & Suzie what a brilliant team xx

Travel operator didn’t know the conditions

The experts advice was very poor. We booked a Turkish holiday and the big earthquake happened. We decided we couldn’t go to turkey and sit there in the sun when Turkish people have lost families we couldn’t enjoy ourselves. So we ask what are our options. Change holiday loose £100 or cancel and loose deposit. We tried to change holiday but told cruise holiday is different type of holiday second choice was Spain told different airline so would still loose full deposit. I understand stand TUI make the rules but travel agency didn’t tell us. So if booking a holiday make sure your travel operator knows the rules. Co op travel louth Lincolnshire

Hello F. You've reviewed Chelmsford Star Co-op's Travel business in Essex. The Co-op Travel branch you refer to is owned by the Lincolnshire Co-op, an entirely different business. You can contact them here: https://www.lincolnshire.coop/branches/travel-branches/lincolnshire-co-operative-travel-louth We'd appreciate you removing the review on our branches when you get the chance, please. Many thanks.

Having booked all our Kirby holidays with yourselves, we were disappointed that having been told we could book our Kirby river cruise with you but apparently that is not the case ! Kirby river trips have to be booked with the company direct resulting in us missing the cruise we wanted

Fabulous service

I have been so impressed with the service that we have decided to always use co-op travel in future. We had 2 fantastic holidays which we wouldn't have found without the help of the wonderful staff in the Chelmsford Quadrant store.

Co-Op Travel, Chelmsford Visit

We used the Co-Op Travel Office at Chelmsford for the 2nd time on 30th December,2019, and for the 2nd time , the staff member who looked after us was friendly, courteous & knowledgeable.

Thanks for the lovely comments David!

No holidays booked with Co op Travel dept.

Your e.mail states "Thanks for booking with Co op Travel" Obviously I haven't booked anything with the Travel Dept. I guess the automatic e.mailed reply is in response to my application to join Chelmsford Star Co op Thanks Derrick Peto

Hi Derrick. Sorry if you received this in error. We have a record of you using our popular foreign currency service, rather than booking a holiday. If this wasn’t you, we’ll do some further investigation. We’d appreciate you considering removing the poor service review, however, especially if you’ve never met the travel team. It really affects how people judge them. Best wishes.

Hello Andy. 'Coop Travel' appears to be for the branches owned by Midcounties Co-operative. This page is for travel branches operated by Chelmsford Star Co-op, based in Essex. We're totally independent. Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience, though. Its a very difficult time for everyone right now, and we hope they resolve your issue.

Solo Travel News: Road Scholar Debuts Exclusive Trips

New solos-only tours unite solo travelers for group adventures..

Christine Sarkis

Globus Debuts New Independent Touring Option

Non-profit tour company Road Scholar is already a standout among tour companies for the way it supports solo travelers , and now it’s going even further by introducing exclusive new solos-only tours . Private rooms are part of the price of the package (no room sharing necessary), and travelers go into each trip knowing they’ll be in the good company of other solo travelers.

Maeve Hartney, Chief Program Officer Road Scholar says “Traveling solo doesn’t mean you have to journey alone. Our solo traveler trips foster a sense of camaraderie, allowing participants to bond over shared experiences and create memories that will last a lifetime.”

The thing I like most about the solo tour lineup is its variety. There are U.S. options like New Orleans and San Francisco along with far-flung trips like Peru, Costa Rica, Italy, and India. Prices range from about $1,800 to $6,600, and activity levels vary from strolling-centric to active.

TourScoop Takeaway

I’ve got solo travel for older adults on my mind a lot lately because my father recently died and my mom, after years of caregiving, is in the early stages of imagining her next chapter. These tours are at the top of my recommendation list to her for their combination of offering a supportive environment, good company, and interesting itineraries.

Following a claim after a holiday the beginning of May I am unable to get hold of anyone and emails go unresponded to apart from an automated response to say it is received. The one contact by email I had asked for things a month after I'd provided them already so I already guessed then that nothing had progressed It says someone will contact you and no one does . You are unable to speak to anyone by phone. It makes an already horrible experience worse.

Date of experience : 01 August 2023

Thank you for your feedback. Please be advised we are Midcounties Co-operative Travel, an independent travel agent. If you query is in relation to travel insurance you would need to contact the company who you purchased travel insurance. The coop offer travel insurance, however they are a separate business to ourselves based in Manchester. I hope this helps. Kind Regards, Your Coop Travel service team.

BUYER BEWARE!

Avoid trade at all costs with these shambolic imbeciles, they couldn’t book an appointment, let alone a holiday. Thick staff did not send out documents and holiday was a complete disaster. Refused to honour price match guarantee. Lied about booking details and continue to lie, and refuse to accept responsibility for their procedural errors and deplorable service. So called customer services are as thick as dense fog, just don’t get it, don’t understand plainly worded English, you could draw them a diagram, they still wouldn’t. The negative reviews on here are to be heeded. They are honest and telling. Take to court guaranteed win, AVOID LIKE COVID

Co op travel Sutton coldfield

Brought a holiday. Then the following day needed an alteration. Checked online and it was only £24 extra to upgrade the room...tried amending ticket myself online but you can only do changes through agent...went to agent who said prices are different online and then quoted the alteration as £175 through co op...asked if I can get a refund, they said if I do I'll loose the deposit which was the full price of the ticket! So in hine sight best to miss out the middle man and buy direct through Jet2 or whoever your flight is with online

Spalding co-op Travel Agents

Visited our local Coop travel agents to book a holiday in October. We was greeted by a representative who never smiled once. We explained what we was looking for and throughout our time there she never smiled engaged in any conversation and didn’t appear to want to help. She made both me & my husband feel uncomfortable and unworthy. We left after 20-30 mins due to this with no holiday booked. Disappointing customer service.

Harwich coop, dont bother booking there

Harwich coop So after my mums holiday wasnt arranged properly and didnt get picked up from airport as arranged, after 20 phone calls to shop i was forced to visit and they wonder why i got irate after listening to their pack of lies. Low and behold the same happened on return journey and they didnt care, had two weeks to sort out and still couldnt be bothered, staffs attitude was terrible. Get a cab and keep receipt was their reply to my elderly mother.

Date of experience : 11 May 2022

Good afternoon, Please be advised the Harwich Coop store you refer to is not a Midcounties Co-operative Travel store. You may wish to contact the store where your booking was made. Alternatively I believe they are part of East of England Coop travel, if you wish to contact them. In closing I hope this helps and that you are able to achieve a suitable outcome. Definitley won't be using CO-OP insurance for anything

I first purchased travel insurance with CO-OP in 2019, we were meant to go on holiday to Mauritius in 2020. Due to COVID restrictions we wasn't able to fly. The travel company refunded any monies paid. with no issues. Tried to cancel the insurance was a totally different matter. I ended up just letting it go, even though I know I shouldn't Then bought travel insurance for our next trip in October 2022. type of cover was Annual Multi-trip (Gold). 3 days into our holiday my wallet was stolen. Made the claim when I got home, thinking as I purchased the gold option there would be no problem with my claim. How wrong was I After going through all the forms submitted police reports, proof of monies drawn out etc. Was told that the money was not attended by myself and not in your locked accommodation, therefore I am unable to consider your claim any further on this occasion. How am I supposed to pay for anything outside of my accommodation without my wallet?? Is theft not covered then ??? Will I be using CO-OP travel insurance again.... No If anyone asks me is CO-OP travel insurance good to use....NO

Worst experience of a travel insurance…

Worst experience of a travel insurance company. Absolute catalogue of errors. Cancelled my policy on the day of my 4 month trip without my consent. Ended up having to buy 3 policies with 2 being refunded. Staff seem to put you on hold every 2 minutes was on the phone for over 2 hours in total. The last thing I need before a once in a lifetime holiday. I wouldn’t recommend. Absolutely terrible.

Coop Travel Market Harborough

Hopefully this is the correct Midcounties Coop travel company ?? I cannot fault the Market Harborough Branch. The staff are extremely good and thorough when dealing with my bookings and this is the reason why i will not go anywhere else. If I have any queries or problems regarding any parts of my holidays, they always deal with them very quickly. This is why I book with people that you can talk to (face to face) not a faceless web site whith no one to take ownership.

Date of experience : 23 July 2021

Just book direct with tui etc and save the hassle!

Have not been impressed with the Walsall branch since it’s new management. Was told the wrong price when we asked how much was left to pay on our holiday. When we called up to pay it they paid it off somebody else’s holiday instead! They did sort this out when they realised but this was only when the other person called to pay off their holiday and were shocked to find it had already been mostly paid off. It would have been much easier to book direct with tui in terms of being able to log on and make payments, that would have also been much more reliable.

Phone booking Walsall

Terrible customer service, booked cruise last year, paid in full back in February, cruise cancelled on the 25th March and promised a refund but here we are nearly 3 months later still not got it. Have called several times, very few times have we got through, left our phone number and twice they haven’t even bothered to phone back. Also never had a reply from email. Avoid

respected company

Co-op travel is not just an online store, it has branches up and down the country. In fact youre better off booking at one of the branches because the website is pretty naff. Prices are very competitive. One good thing about co-op travel is that it is unlikely to go bust because it does not just specialise in holidays. Over the years people have respected the co-op for the way that it gives back to the customers.

Over 3 months waiting for a refund for a holiday cancelled due to Covid. When contacting The company I have been told they’ve no idea when I can have a refund. Unhelpful bit were happy to make assurances that the holiday would be going ahead.

Date of experience : 18 January 2021

Good afternoon, Thank you for your feedback although I am sorry to read its content. If you still have concerns and would like me to look into this for your further please email- [email protected] with the details of your holiday so I can investigate and access your booking. Kind Regards, Customer Services Department, Midcounties Co-operative Travel.

Shocking!!!

Shocking!!! I’ve been awaiting an update on my holiday for weeks as to whether it will be going ahead. I was told not no pay my final balance until they could update me further on 15th March. Chased the update on the 15th, no response, followed up again on morning of 16th. Was in a meeting 2pm till 6pm, received a response at 3pm stating I had till 5pm to pay my full balance or holiday cancelled! Obviously missed this totally unfair deadline after months of chasing and being fobbed off.. Following weeks of looking at transferring dates and being totally ripped off by co-op travel (£3k - £4k more expensive than TUI after being initially cheaper with booking) I’m appalled that they are still in operation treating customers like this! I’ve now passed this and evidence to my solicitors to deal with!

Date of experience : 16 March 2021

Dear Louise, I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy. Can you please email your concerns to [email protected] we will then look into the matter for you. Kind regards, Midcounties Co-operative Travel.

Poor Customer Service

Poor Customer Service. I've just spent an hour on the phone dealing with JTA travel direct. I booked through Co-op Travel in Lowestoft and they can't be bothered to deal with this for me. Co-op had a joint venture with Thomas Cook and they would have been paid their commission on this and another holiday I've also had to sort out myself. Rubbish customer service and I certainly won't use them again. Surely common sense would tell you to deal with this for the customer in the hope they'll come back and book more holidays. These are the first holidays I've booked through an agent in over 10 years and I won't be doing it again.

Best Kids’ Backpacks of 2024

Choosing kids' backpacks is a crucial part of shopping for school supplies. All those pencils, folders, and books require ample well-organized storage, and backpacks must withstand the necessary wear and tear of everyday use. Furthermore, they should be age-appropriate and spacious without being overly bulky.

A kids' backpack should be durable enough to last at least one school year and comfortable for a growing child. A stylish backpack your kid will enjoy toting around is an important requirement (one less morning battle) and it should fall within your budget. The backpacks on our list are ideal for younger kids and older teens, and some are perfect for travel and outdoor accessories or equipped with tech-essential compartments. We spoke with a pediatrician and a mom travel blogger for their input. Our favorite overall picks for big and little kids are STATE backpacks, made of kid-proof, durable materials with thoughtful organizational pockets.

Table of Contents

  • Best Kids' Backpacks
  • Things To Consider When Buying
  • How We Chose

STATE Kane Kids Large  »

STATE Kane Kids Large

Suitable for ages 9 and up

Durable materials

Dual compartments for maximum storage

Some colors and designs sell out quickly

The STATE Kane Kids Large backpack is our best overall backpack pick for older kids, as it’s a well-made bag with functional features and an aesthetic that older kids will love. It’s designed for kids ages 9 and older, or fourth grade and up. This backpack is a good transition bag from elementary school to middle school . The larger size includes room for additional books and even a separate lunch box . It features a zippered front pocket, two main compartments, exterior side water bottle storage, interior organization, a padded laptop sleeve to fit a device up to 15 inches, and even a luggage slip for travel.

The main body of the bag is 100% coated cotton with a 100% polyester lining. Keeping it clean is simple since the bag only requires spot-cleaning with a damp cloth. Kids can opt for solid metallic designs or more fashionable prints in nylon, polyester, or printed canvas fabrics. Customize the backpacks with initials, symbols, patches, or pins, letting your kid stand out in a crowded lunchroom. STATE bags are pricier than other options, but parents rave that their craftsmanship lasts for years.

STATE Kane Kids  »

STATE Kane Kids

Suitable for ages 4 to 8

Lightweight at 2 pounds

Variety of styles and designs

Some colors and patterns sell out quickly

Like its larger counterpart, the STATE Kane Kids is our best backpack overall for little kids. This bestselling kindergarten to third-grade backpack is perfect for ages 4 to 8. Most likely your child's first real backpack, your kid will have some independence with this functional and stylish bag. Soft padded, adjustable straps add comfort to a backpack weighing less than 2 pounds, yet it still has the right amount of organizational features to hold snacks, pencils, erasers, and notepads. It can even fit a change of clothes for after-school activities.

The backpack has one main zippered compartment with multiple interior pockets. The outside features a large zippered front pocket and two exterior side pockets for water bottle storage. Younger kids can carry a laptop or tablet up to 13 inches alongside their books and school folders, but the best part about the Kane Kids backpack is its array of colors and patterns. Choose novelty designs with fuzzy hearts and lightning bolts, recycled polyester rainbow gradients, or printed canvas astronaut and neon dinosaur hues. Personalize this bag with initials in different fonts and colors for an additional fee, or take it one step further and add a fun Velcro charm.

L.L.Bean Original Book Pack, 24L  »

L.L.Bean Original Book Pack, 24L

Made of weatherproof nylon

Suitable for ages 6 and up

No laptop sleeve

Only available in solid colors

L.L.Bean is known for its timeless hiking and travel bags, and its kids' backpacks are another classic choice. The L.L.Bean Original Book Pack is our top choice for older kids at a price that won't break the bank. With a capacity of 24 liters, it's slightly smaller than our overall best pick, but it's way more affordable for parents on a budget. At less than $40, this bag is durable enough to stand the test of time. Strong stitching and weatherproof nylon fabric can hold up to a busy year of schoolbooks and after-school activities.

For ages 6 and up, this bag only weighs 1 pound and offers extra comfort with a padded back panel and reinforced shoulder straps. Easily adjust the straps to evenly allocate weight and provide less back strain. The smaller bag can still house a lunch box, books, and water bottle in its large compartments and interior pockets. The Original Book Pack is only available in five solid colors, but it's complete with reflective material on the front and straps for high visibility during morning drop-offs.

L.L.Bean Junior Original Book Pack, 17L  »

L.L.Bean Junior Original Book Pack, 17L

Affordable price point

Suitable for ages 4 and up

Machine-washable, weatherproof nylon

Minimal padding

Only available in five colors

This classic from L.L.Bean gets another spot on our list with the Junior Original Book Pack. This version is a smaller take on the original design from more than 40 years ago and is ideal for younger kids ages 4 and up. Elementary school children get the same strong weatherproof nylon construction of the bigger backpack but at a size that's more comfortable for their age and weight. The Junior Original weighs only 13 ounces but still delivers a 17-liter capacity to hold a lunch box, school supplies, toys, and a change of clothes.

This durable backpack is no match for everyday spills. Simply place the machine-washable backpack inside a mesh laundry bag, machine-wash, and line-dry. Two features that make this bag so lightweight are less padding and no laptop sleeve. However, it does offer additional features like the reflective front and straps and the ability to embroider a monogram onto the bag. Find the Junior Original Book Pack in fun age-appropriate colors such as bright neon pink, purple clover, and Kelly green.

The mesh storage sleeve inside the main compartment separates important documents or clothing from other supplies.

“I like a backpack that comfortably has enough space to fit a laptop, headphones, neck pillow, a book, a water bottle and potentially even an extra set of clothes,” says Kristin O’Connell, a mom and travel blogger. “An easy to access zipper pocket for a phone and passport is also a must!”

A padded and fleece-lined compartment sits at the back of the bag to store a 15- or 16-inch laptop or tablet to keep your child entertained while on the go. The sleeve includes a dedicated buckle to store your device securely during travel. Another handy feature of the Kaslo is the sternum strap connected to the padded shoulder straps to help evenly distribute weight. The reinforced straps also have a hidden earbud pocket to keep tech gear organized and easily accessible. A dedicated passport pocket adds to this bag's overall convenience during weekend trips or summer vacations.

Hydration port and tubing routing

Durable water-repellent finish

Suitable for ages 8 to 12

Hydration reservoir not included

Only two colors

Parents always encourage their kids to go outside, so ensure they have the best gear for the job with this REI Co-Op Tarn 18-Pack. It's our pick for the best backpack for outdoor activities because of its water-repellent material, reflective accents, lightweight design, and pack features. This frameless hiking daypack weighs only 17 ounces and fits kids ages 8 to 12. (Parents can also choose the Tarn 12 Pack for kids ages 5 to 8.) It includes a front stuff pocket to store a jacket or raincoat and six more external pockets.

“My son has attended Forest School for three years and still uses the same REI Tarn backpack,” says Dr. Monica Davern, a board-certified pediatrician. “It’s super comfortable and durable.”

The backpack's secure sternum and side compression straps for stabilization will make kids feel comfortable and confident when hiking a trail. Kids will stay cool throughout the day with the padded back panel with built-in airflow. Large mesh water bottle pockets on either side of the bag keep thirst at bay while camping, riding, or kayaking , not to mention the padded hip belt for storing snacks and souvenirs. While a hydration reservoir isn’t included, parents can add one and utilize it via the bag's hydration port.

Topo Designs Daypack Classic

Internal and external laptop sleeves

100% recycled nylon

Top carry handle

Not as many compartments

No charging port

When kids reach high school, they move away from notepads and toward laptops , so parents should consider a backpack with room for all their necessary gear. The Topo Designs Daypack Classic is a tech-worthy backpack with two laptop compartments. Kids can use the bag's internal or external sleeves to store 15-inch laptops or tablets and still have space for other school essentials. A top carry handle and wide zipper top make accessing the bag easy between classes or during lunch.

Other features include a leather lash tab for securing sentimental trinkets and a diagonal exterior pocket for added storage and style. This bag comes in seven patterns, ranging from classic black on black to coral on peppercorn and sage on pond blue. While it doesn't have as much internal storage as other options on this list, it includes contoured, padded shoulder straps; dual water bottle pockets; high-quality zippers; and a durable 1000D recycled nylon exterior that's easy to clean. Plus, the PackFast Travel Bag attachment loops are ideal for securing the daypack to the brand's other bags for efficient packing and hands-free travel

The Bottom Line

Kids' backpacks might seem like simple purchases, but they’re available in different styles with varying comfort levels. A backpack suitable for a younger child might not be ideal for a teenager. When selecting a kids' backpack, it's best to consider both form and function in terms of storage compartments, durable construction, and overall design. Our best overall picks for younger and older kids are STATE Kane Kids backpacks, which offer organizational features and are lightweight, easy to clean, and available in various styles to showcase kids’ personalities.

Things To Consider When Buying Kids’ Backpacks

Ergonomics and Fit: Kids wear backpacks almost daily to transport various books and supplies. Their backpack should include comfortable features such as a padded back panel and adjustable shoulder straps. A sternum strap and hip belt are additional features that aid in comfort but are less common. A properly sized backpack correctly positioned on a child's back is also necessary for a quality fit.

“Getting your kid to carry their own gear in their own backpack can be a gamechanger. In order for kids to be successful schlepping their own stuff around, whether at school, on a hike, or at the airport, it’s important to focus on the fit and comfort of their bag,” Davern says. “Ergonomics and fit are crucial to prevent strain on their backs and shoulders. Finding a backpack that is made specifically for your child’s age and size will significantly help with this.”

Parents should also consider a backpack's adjustable features. Children can adjust the shoulder straps, sternum strap, and/or hip belt for a comfortable fit that evenly distributes weight without straining their neck, back, and shoulders. This weight distribution is especially important during outdoor activities and travel.

Durability and Material Quality: Often, kids aren't as gentle with their belongings as adults, so parents should consider a backpack durable enough to withstand constant use. A bag with longevity that's easy to clean can take a kid from preschool to second grade. Some of the best kids' backpacks are made with machine-washable, weatherproof nylon, while others have a water-repellent finish that's tough on stains.

“Parents should prioritize material quality and durability to ensure the backpack withstands the wear and tear of daily use, ideally lasting throughout the school year," Davern adds. "Keep in mind, these bags get pretty dirty! So, looking for a durable material that will withstand some wear and tear, as well as regular washing, is important. I always prioritize durability when it comes to purchasing kids' gear because high-quality products can usually be handed down and used for younger siblings as well, which will end up saving you money in the long run.”

Size and Capacity: “One of the biggest things to consider when buying a backpack for a young kid is, is it the right size for their body? And can they carry it easily on their own (as well as access the compartments)?” asks O’Connell. “A small backpack for a small kid can be great to build independence!”

Selecting the right backpack size and capacity depends mostly on age. Parents shouldn’t get a backpack their child will eventually grow into – it’ll be too big for their frame and cause more harm than good. A backpack shouldn’t be wider than a child's torso or hang more than 4 inches below their waist. Its size should be proportional to the child's height, so a size that works for a preschooler won't be the same for a child in elementary, middle, or high school. The American Academy of Pediatrics also recommends that a full backpack not exceed 10% to 15% of a child's body weight.

Davern says to remember to consider how you’re utilizing the space for books, supplies, and electronics when discussing weight and capacity: “Depending on where you live, it’s also important to make sure there is room for extra layers of clothing, hats, mittens, sunscreen, or other gear that your kids may need. Some organizational compartments are also helpful, so your child knows where to look for school supplies or snacks when needed.”

Compartments and Organization: Backpacks will provide different numbers of compartments for varying levels of organization depending on their purpose. A backpack designed for laptops or outdoor activities might have more storage capacity than one for everyday use. Various compartments assist with distributing a backpack's weight and make it easier to find supplies. Consider backpacks with sufficient interior and exterior compartments and pockets that suit your child's needs. Bags with a padded laptop sleeve are ideal for tech gear, and luggage slip sleeves are perfect for travel. Front pocket organizers help kids store smaller objects in easily accessible compartments. Furthermore, single or dual water bottle side pockets are essential when on the go.

"Compartment[s] and organization are essential for easy access to belongings, promoting tidiness and efficiency, and reducing the risk of items getting lost or damaged," says Davern. "Having specific pockets for different items can help your child build confidence and self-sufficiency when it comes to organizing and finding their belongings."

Style and Aesthetics: Backpacks are necessary for storing items and transporting kids’ stuff from one place to the next. In addition to their ability to carry books, clothing, tech gear, and other supplies, backpacks showcase kids' personalities. The best kids' backpacks combine style and function with options such as custom monograms, charms, pins, and patches. Some even offer patterns, from textured, novelty designs to fun color gradients and hues. Younger children can select backpacks that align with their favorite characters, while older children can opt for subdued bags that cater to their more mature style.

“While functionality and comfort should be the primary considerations, style and aesthetics matter to some extent,” Davern says. “When it comes to style, finding a backpack that appeals to your child may be more important than finding one that appeals to you. If they like it, they are more likely to take care of it, use it, and feel responsible for it.”

How We Chose the Best Kids’ Backpacks

At U.S. News 360 Reviews, we know it’s important to analyze options to provide parents with everything they need to make an informed decision. When selecting the best kids' backpacks, we considered their functionality and aesthetics for younger kids, older kids, and different activities. We spoke with Dr. Monica Davern, a board-certified pediatrician, mom, vegan athlete, and founder of Mighty Roots , who contributed expert insight on backpack quality and use. We also consulted with Kristin O’Connell , a mom, travel blogger, and senior director of sales at Once Upon a Farm, a kids’ organic snacks and meals company. Other considerations were dimensions, weight and capacity, age-appropriateness, materials and durability, comfort, and organization. We utilized this information to narrow our list of the best kids' backpacks.

Although a large backpack might seem like a good option for storing supplies and growing into, it’s best to give your child one sized appropriately for their age, weight, and height. Bulky backpacks can cause tripping and be difficult to handle. Backpacks should sit at waist level about 1 to 2 inches below the shoulders. They should never sit more than 4 inches below the waistline or be wider than a child’s torso.

A full-size backpack for a kindergarten student should be at least 12 inches wide and 15 inches tall to accommodate essential school supplies. It should hold between 10 to 15 liters. A full-size backpack doesn’t mean a fully loaded backpack. It should still be appropriate for a 5-year-old child and lightweight with different compartments; padded, adjustable straps; and a waist belt or chest strap. If you’re not certain if your kindergarten student needs a full-size backpack, ask your pediatrician for advice.

The best kids’ backpacks evenly distribute weight without causing muscle strain in the back, shoulders, and neck. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends backpacks weigh no more than 10% to 15% of a child’s body weight. For example, a child who weighs 100 pounds should have a bag that weighs 15 pounds or less. This limit includes the backpack’s weight and any books, materials, or other school supplies inside. Children can assist in distributing the weight by placing the heaviest items lower and near the center of their back.

Cost effective Co-op travel insurance

Haing tried to arrange holiday travel insurance with other providers including Saga and Staysure yesterday we hit on the Co-op website. It's much easier to navigate and much less intrusive on medical information. Better still as Co-op members we received a discount bringing the price down to half that of their competitor's... Win win!

Expensive telephone charge

After several unsuccessful attempts to pay on the internet I had to do it by 'phone. Spoke to a very pleasant gentleman who arranged my payment but I do object to having to pay the high telephone charge to actually pay you!

Easy to use site

As a CO-OP member second time of using, liking the 10% off also as I am just over 70 and they cover this. The level of 3 different types of cover were well set out and easy to look at and we're not overly expensive. I compared to others and found it was a good price.

Relative simplicity

Easy to complete application but would have been easier to have the option of cruise at the beginning, rather than add on at the end.

Do not use Coop pet insurance

We started a claim with Coop Pet Insurance three months ago. Despite chasing them for updates and them having to restart the process because of a system fault, we are now six weeks in when they say they need four weeks and we are still waiting for our claim to be settled. This is the worst insurance provider we have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. We expected much better service from the Coop and we will not be renewing our policy.

Excellent and efficient as always

Excellent and efficient as always for Co-op insurance. After amending/correcting some of the details even found that the figure was less than that which was at first quoted on notice for renewal. The agents are always friendly as well.

Easy to use, competitive service. Recommended.

Bought my husband's travel insurance and was impressed by the ease of obtaining and price of his policy. Having had health issues recently I thought I'd try. The cover offered was excellent at a very competitive price. Would certainly recommend the Co-op for travel insurance and will be trying them when other insurances come up for renewal.

Submitted a claim over 4 weeks ago

Submitted a claim over 4 weeks ago, heard nothing at all since except the usual "Rest assured we are still working hard to assess your claim, we will update you when we progress further" called them today for an update and was told it might be done by the end of the week but it's not guaranteed. Seeing other reviews it looks like it can take months, it's not even a big claim. If they pay out, i might update my score but it doesn't look likely.

From £208 to £467 increase.

Last year, the car insurance was £208. This year, with the same car, drivers, mileage, location, no claims, no changes, all details exactly the same…£467! £208 to £467. I rang to verify as it was such a ridiculous increase. So obviously I changed to a car insurer that gives a reasonable quote and customer service.
