A passenger on Royal Caribbean's Spectrum of the Seas fell overboard on Monday, the cruise company confirmed to Insider.

According to the Singapore-based news outlet, The Straits Times , the passenger is 64-year-old Reeta Sahani, who was traveling with her husband Jakesh Sahani.

The couple was in the Singapore Strait on the last day of their four-day cruise to Malaysia when she fell.

According to The Straits Times, Jakesh woke up in the middle of the night and discovered his wife was not in their cruise cabin.

He notified the ship's officials, who, according to The Straits Times, told him that his wife was seen on the ship's CCTV footage sitting on the ship's railing at about 4 a.m.

Additionally, the ship's overboard detection system alerted that something or someone had fallen overboard the ship, the news outlet reported.

In a statement sent to Insider, a Royal Caribbean spokesperson said that "the ship and crew immediately reported the incident to local authorities and launched a search and rescue operation."

"The shipboard team is working with local authorities and our Care team is now offering assistance and support to the family," the statement continued.

In a news release , the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said it was alerted of the overboard passenger at 7:50 a.m. local time on Monday.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore did not immediately respond to Insider's requests for comment.

Speaking to The Straits Times, Reeta's son Apoorv Sahani said his mother did not know how to swim.

"She was on a holiday enjoying herself and then this whole thing happened. It doesn't make sense," Apoorv, who was not onboard the Spectrum of the Seas, said.

"We've asked to see the CCTV footage, but so far we've not received anything yet for us to confirm that it was her," he told the news outlet.  "All we know is that the ship's crew thinks she jumped."

Since the start of 2023, there have been 12 people who have fallen off cruise ships, according to data compiled by Ross Klein , a social work professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, who runs a cruise safety website.

‘My mother could not swim’: Son of passenger who fell overboard cruise ship Spectrum of the Seas

cruise singapore fall

SINGAPORE – Monday was to have been the last day of their four-day cruise, with Mr Jakesh Sahani and Madam Reeta Sahani on their way back to Singapore from Penang aboard the Spectrum of the Seas.

But some time in the middle of the night, Mr Jakesh, 70, woke up to find his wife missing from their room.

The retiree tried to locate his 64-year-old wife on the sprawling cruise ship but failed, so he informed the crew. They later told him the vessel’s overboard detection systems had been alerted that something had fallen from the ship into the Singapore Strait.

Mr Jakesh’s son, Mr Apoorv Sahani, who was not on the cruise, recounted the episode in a phone call with The Straits Times on Monday night.

The 39-year-old architect said his family members, who are from India, are still in the dark about his mother’s status. In a flustered voice, he told ST that his mother could not swim, and that his father was made to go through an interview with the police that lasted a few hours.

“We’ve asked to see the CCTV (closed-circuit television) footage, but so far we’ve not received anything yet for us to confirm that it was her. All we know is that the ship’s crew thinks she jumped,” he said.

“Eventually my father was told to get down from the ship because there was another cruise that was going to take place, but we think she may still be on the ship, stuck somewhere.”

Mr Apoorv added: “She was on a holiday enjoying herself and then this whole thing happened. It doesn’t make sense.”

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said in a statement on Monday night that the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Singapore was notified about the incident at about 7.50am.

The passenger was on board the Cyprus-flagged Spectrum of the Seas, and had fallen overboard, although no further details were provided.

“MRCC Singapore is coordinating the search and immediately issued navigational safety broadcast to vessels in the Singapore Strait and vessels in port to keep a lookout for the missing person and report any sightings to MRCC Singapore,” said the statement.

It added that the vessel was berthed earlier in Singapore to support the investigations and had departed at around 4.30pm.

Checks on marine tracking website Marine Traffic showed that it is currently bound for Nha Trang in Vietnam.

In response to queries from ST, a spokesman for Royal Caribbean, which operates the vessel, said the incident was reported to the local authorities immediately.

The company declined to comment further, citing the privacy of the guest and the family, but said its team is offering support and assistance to them.

According to cruise tracking website CruiseMapper, Spectrum of the Seas is the first Royal Caribbean cruise ship belonging to the Quantum-Ultra class – a larger, upgraded version of the Quantum-class. It has 2,137 staterooms and can cater for up to 4,819 passengers, with 16 decks, 18 dining options, four swimming pools and 10 outdoor jacuzzis.

SINGAPORE: A passenger of the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Spectrum of the Seas fell overboard into the Singapore Strait, said the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on Monday (Jul 31).

Search efforts coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) are underway. The MRCC was notified of the incident at about 7.50am on Monday while the vessel was en route to Singapore.

The MRCC has issued a navigational safety broadcast to vessels in the Singapore Strait and vessels in port to keep a lookout for the missing person and report any sightings. Details of the missing passenger were not provided.

The Spectrum of the Seas left Singapore at 4.30pm, MPA said in a subsequent update at 11pm. Its initial statement, sent shortly after 9pm, said the ship was "currently berthed in Singapore" and "supporting with investigations".

In a statement sent at 10.30pm, Royal Caribbean International said the Spectrum of the Seas had been "cleared by authorities" and sailed as scheduled on Monday evening.

An itinerary on the Royal Caribbean website indicates a 12-night voyage to Tokyo, with stops in Vietnam and Hong Kong, starting on Jul 31.

Ship tracking website Marine Traffic showed that, as of 10.30pm, the vessel was en route to Nha Trang, Vietnam.

Royal Caribbean added that the ship's crew immediately launched a search and rescue when it was found that the person had fallen overboard.

A care team is currently offering assistance and support to the family of the missing passenger, the company said.

Disney Cruise Line and Singapore Tourism Board to Bring Magical Cruise Vacations to Southeast Asia

SINGAPORE (March 29, 2023) —  Disney Cruise Line and Singapore Tourism Board today announced magical cruise vacations to Southeast Asia for the first time, revealed by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro and Singapore’s Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, S. Iswaran.

Under a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding, Disney Cruise Line and Singapore Tourism Board agreed to collaborate to homeport a brand-new Disney cruise ship exclusively in Singapore for at least five years beginning in 2025. More details about the maiden voyage, itineraries and onboard experiences will be announced at a later date.

“This is a very exciting year for The Walt Disney Company — 2023 marks our 100th anniversary,” D’Amaro said. “As part of this, Disney Cruise Line is currently undergoing an ambitious expansion with new ships and new destinations around the world. We are incredibly excited to make Singapore the home port to our seventh-launched ship, which will sail from here year-round starting in 2025.”

“We look forward to welcoming the magic of Disney Cruise Line to Singapore in 2025,” said Keith Tan, Chief Executive, Singapore Tourism Board (STB). “This is an important milestone for STB and reflects Disney Cruise Line’s strong confidence in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The new Disney cruise ship will be an attraction itself and is expected to boost the tourism sector in Singapore for many years to come.”

Cruising in Singapore and Southeast Asia

Singapore’s strategic location, world-class air connectivity and port infrastructure make it a thriving cruise hub in Southeast Asia, a diverse region that is home to over 40 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The addition of a Disney Cruise Line ship in Singapore has the potential to add millions of local and foreign cruise passengers across the five-year period, including fly-cruise passengers who arrive in Singapore by air. It is also expected to bring about significant spillover benefits for the wider economy. These include greater demand for port and ship-related services, as well as on-ground spending in Singapore for the lifestyle and hospitality sectors.

New Disney Cruise Ship for Families in Southeast Asia

The new ship will feature innovative Disney experiences along with the dazzling entertainment, world-class dining and legendary guest service that set Disney Cruise Line apart. Guests of all ages will find dedicated spaces and activities designed just for them, and families will create unforgettable memories with beloved characters such as Captain Mickey Mouse and Captain Minnie Mouse, Disney Princesses, Marvel Super Heroes and more.

Disney Cruise Line estimates the passenger capacity of the 208,000-gross-ton ship to be approximately 6,000 with around 2,300 crew members. It is expected to be among the first in the cruise industry to be fueled by green methanol, one of the lowest emission fuels available.

Construction is projected to be completed at the MV Werften shipyard in Wismar, Germany, under the management of Meyer Werft, the Papenburg-based company that built the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish and is constructing two additional Wish-class ships.

The ship to be homeported in Singapore will be the seventh to launch. It is the eighth ship announced for the Disney Cruise Line fleet. Top Sights & Attractions for Cruises to Singapore

Gardens by the bay.

The Gardens by the Bay have become completely synonymous with Singapore. Here you’ll find sculptures in the shape of funky flowers lit up in bright colors. The garden is home to multiple greenhouses, like the Flower Dome, where the temperatures and the plant life are always in spring. In the Cloud Forest, a small mountain was built for visitors to scale, bringing a tropical mountain climate all the way to Singapore. Guided tours and shows happen daily, and there’s something for all ages here, including a children’s garden and a sculpture park.

Singapore Botanic Garden

This UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the few places to see the island’s rarest vegetation and greenery, making it not only a paradise but also one of the most important preservation efforts in all of Asia. When you cruise Singapore, take a leisurely walk through the grounds, where you can literally stop and smell the flowers. The Orchid Garden offers the largest collection of orchids in the world, and imported swans float along Swan Lake for a romantic afternoon out.

Singapore Flyer

Take a ride on the incredible Singapore flyer, a massive Ferris wheel in the heart of Singapore. Rides last about 30 minutes and offer incredible, panoramic views of the city during the adventure. Watch the futuristic skyline on one side and the peaceful harbor as ships float in and out on the other. At night, the Flyer even lights up.

Night Safari

For a close look at some of Singapore’s most exotic wildlife, take an unforgettable night safari, where you’ll enjoy a tram ride through this nocturnal zoo in the heart of the rainforest while on your cruise to Singapore. Nearly 150 species call this ecosystem their home, and 38 of them are endangered. There are even shows like fire-twirling and dancing, and smaller group buggy rides through the park with an expert guide.

Learn More About Singapore Shore Excursions

Top things to do in singapore, go shopping on orchard road.

The definitive spot for shopping in Singapore is Orchard Road, the shopping district home to over 5,000 businesses. You can lose track of time here while on a cruise to Singapore, whether you’re looking to explore art galleries, try on new clothes, or browse for high-end goods. There’s even a rare whisky museum where you can enjoy whisky tastings. Orchard Road is also home to many bars and restaurants that add to Singapore’s gourmet scene.

Board a Bumboat

One of the best ways to admire the Singapore skyline is by taking a scenic bumboat cruise down the Singapore River. From the water, you’ll marvel at the historic Boat Quay, as well as the city’s more modern architectural sites, including the towering Marina Bay Sands and Helix Bridge. If you board a bumboat at night, you’ll also have the chance to enjoy a thrilling laser show with music, light, and water that come together for a magnificent visual experience.

Walk Singapore’s Chinatown

When stopped before your cruise from Singapore, you’ll see the city has a vibrant energy that is infectious. Singapore’s Chinatown is a must-see for some of the cheapest, best street food in the city, shops featuring local artists and designers, and beautifully preserved temples. Walk the narrow streets, stop for a bite to eat, or tour the restored temple Thian Hock Keng.

Where should I eat in Singapore?

Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck

Make a reservation for one of the top spots for dim sum and its namesake, peking duck, here. There’s a location very close to the shopping along Orchard Road. This cozy spot is ideal for lunch after a long stretch of boutique hopping. You’ll want to plan ahead. Advanced orders are required if you want to nosh on the Beijing-style roasted duck.

Tarts at Tarte by Cheryl Koh

Address: #01-12, 1 Scotts Road, Singapore

When you’re craving sweets, Tarts at Tarte bring you pretty much every variety of tart, cake, and truffle available. Here you’ll find 66% dark chocolate tarts, blood orange tarts, and light-as-air sponge cakes. Bring some back to the ship with you as you cruise Singapore. Coffee and tea are menu staples, too.

Address: #01-03 Dorsett Residences, Singapore

The one Michelin-starred Candlenut frequently makes “best of” lists in Singapore for its gourmet takes on Peranakan cuisine. The menu changes based on seasonal and available produce, and also offers luxe a la carte options from baby squid to chicken curry. Chef Malcolm Lee brings an extravagance to recipes passed down through generations of family.

Park Bench Deli

Address: 179 Telok Ayer St., Singapore 068627

Unpretentious and styled like an American deli, Park Bench Deli is a place to hang out with a juicy sandwich and a cold beer. From a classic fried chicken sandwich to the more adventurous pastrami tater tots, head here for comfort food in the heart of Singapore.

What’s the culture and history of Singapore?

The island of Singapore was settled by the British in the early 19th century, who then built up the port and encouraged international trade to the area. Singapore gained independence in 1965 and quickly became one of the wealthiest and most expensive places in the world as investments in housing, education, and trade began to expand. Singapore’s culture is a melting pot, known for influences from both Asia and Europe, where you’ll hear residents speaking many languages from English to Mandarin to Tamil. Its warm climate year-round makes it a favorite for tropical weather lovers.

Where can I go shopping near the Singapore cruise port?

Find luxury brands and well-known names when you’re shopping at the Marina Bay Sands Mall, which is just a short 15-minute ride from the cruise center, particularly if you’re interested in high fashion and Singaporean designers. Singapore’s Chinatown is also a must-see for its energy, where vendors not only sell cheap eats at their stalls, but also offer fashion from independent and emerging designers and artists looking to support their craft. Because so many vendors also sell food, you can hop from boutique to boutique and stay close to some of the best food before your cruise from Singapore.

How can I get around Singapore?

Singapore’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system is comprehensive and easy to navigate, not to mention efficient and clean. Hop off at the Marina South Pier station, just a short walk from the Marina Bay Cruise Centre, after spending time in downtown Singapore and the city’s main sights. Of course, taxis are very common in Singapore, but only stop at designated stands to drop you off once you’re in the city to curb traffic and make the drop-off process smoother for the city. Singapore doesn’t host ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft currently. The city’s trishaws are mostly a tourist activity now, so be careful not to pay too much for one.

What are the local currency and tipping customs?

The official currency of Singapore is the Singaporean dollar (S$). Tipping isn’t common practice in Singapore, and credit cards are considered the norm here. You can find currency exchange at banks and conveniently at the cruise port, called the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore.

Cruise worker accused of stabbing a 75-year-old and 2 guards with scissors on vessel bound for Alaska

cruise singapore fall

The cruise ship Norweigan Encore leaves the Port of Juneau on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021. (James Brooks / ADN)

A newly hired cruise employee was arrested by the FBI after federal prosecutors said he repeatedly stabbed a woman receiving medical attention on the ship and two security guards who tried to stop him.

The attack involving medical scissors unfolded May 6 after the worker, a 35-year-old South African man, was caught trying to deploy a lifeboat from a Norwegian Cruise Line ship west of Vancouver Island, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska.

Ntando Sogoni boarded the Norwegian Encore a day earlier in Seattle, Washington, an affidavit says. The ship was scheduled to make three stops in Alaska and one in British Columbia before it was to return to Seattle on May 12, according to the affidavit.

Information regarding Sogoni’s legal representation wasn’t immediately available on May 8.

On May 6, the ship’s security escorted Sogoni to the vessel’s medical center for an evaluation after he tried to deploy the lifeboat, prosecutors said.

At the center, he “became irrational and attempted to leave” and “physically attacked a security guard and a male nurse,” according to the affidavit.

He ran to another exam room, where a 75-year-old patient was inside, and grabbed a pair of medical scissors, the affidavit says.

Sogoni stabbed the woman in her arm, hand and face, then stabbed two security guards, according to prosecutors.

He stabbed one guard in the head and stabbed the other guard’s back and shoulders, prosecutors said.

The woman and security guards survived their injuries, which weren’t life-threatening, according to the affidavit.

A Norwegian Cruise Line spokesperson told McClatchy News in an emailed statement May 8 that the woman and guards received treatment from the ship’s medical staff.

Other security personnel detained Sogoni in a shipboard jail until the vessel arrived at its first destination in Juneau, the affidavit says.

“He became violent without provocation,” according to the Norwegian Cruise Line spokesperson, who confirmed that Sogoni was newly employed as a crew member.

On May 7, the FBI arrested Sogoni, and he was charged with three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon within maritime and territorial jurisdiction, prosecutors announced in a news release.

“We condemn violent behavior of this nature and are committed to the safety and security of all crew members and guests on our ships. We commend the onboard security team for their brave actions,” the Norwegian Cruise Line spokesperson said.

“Senior ship leadership have been actively engaged and continue to closely monitor all involved with the support of senior company executives who immediately traveled to Juneau to meet, escort and assist the (guests).”

If Sogoni is convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count against him, prosecutors said.

5 best fall foliage cruises in New England, Canada and beyond

Erica Silverstein

If you feel left out whenever your social media feeds blow up with beautiful pictures of fall foliage, you probably should plan your own leaf-peeping trip. Sure, you could arrange an epic road trip, complete with traffic jams and overpriced, overcrowded tourist traps. Or, you could take a fall foliage cruise.

From a cruise ship, you can enjoy the autumnal hues of the Canadian and New England coastline as you sail between northeastern U.S. home ports like New York and Boston and Canada's Montreal or Quebec City. Book shore excursions for a more relaxing day out; the bus driver will navigate the traffic along tree-lined byways to scenic vistas, and your mealtimes will be prearranged (or held on board your ship's multiple dining venues).

If you'd rather explore fall's colors outside of the Northeast, a few cruise lines will take you to fall foliage destinations in other parts of the U.S., too.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

You'll want to book your Canada and New England cruise at least six months (if not a year or more) in advance for the best pricing and availability. Here, we present the five best fall foliage cruises you should consider in New England, Canada and beyond.

7-day Canada and New England Discovery cruise on Holland America

cruise singapore fall

Holland America 's 1,964-passenger Zuiderdam is a delightfully midsize ship, so you don't have to worry about crowds as you sail between Boston and Quebec City. The ship starts sailing this route in late August, but for the best leaf peeping, you'll want to book one of the two October departures.

Ports of call include Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; Sydney and Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Portland or Bar Harbor, Maine. Take your pick of scenic drives or strolls through gardens or along hiking paths, camera at the ready. On board, spend your evenings rocking out to live music or enjoying a leisurely meal of steak or seafood at the Pinnacle Grill.

Best for : Holland America attracts mainly retirees and couples who appreciate the line's focus on fine dining and live performances. Zuiderdam's itinerary is ideal for anyone who doesn't mind flying in and out of different cities in order to travel farther north into Canada than the one-way sailings.

7-day Canada and New England cruise on Princess Cruises

cruise singapore fall

For an easy round-trip New York cruise that leans more into New England than Canada, consider Princess Cruises ' weeklong October sailings on the 3,660-passenger Enchanted Princess. Choose from itineraries with four or five ports, including Newport, Rhode Island; Boston; Bar Harbor; Halifax; and (only on certain sailings) Saint John, New Brunswick.

If seascapes are your thing, don't miss the beautiful coastal landscape by the Bay of Fundy (from Saint John) or Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia. Head to the hills in Bar Harbor for elevated views, or escape to sea with a harbor cruise from Newport.

Best for : Princess Cruises also attracts mature couples and lovers of classic cruising, but the 2019-debuted Enchanted Princess is much larger and bigger than Holland America's Zuiderdam. Kick back with the line's signature Movies Under the Stars (complete with blankets for fall nights in New England), or enjoy multiple specialty restaurants devoted to Italian specialties, steakhouse fare and seafood. Bundle up for a romantic breakfast on your balcony while the colorful coastline passes by.

7-night Canada cruise on Royal Caribbean

cruise singapore fall

Combine an easy Boston round-trip sailing with a fall foliage cruise focused more on Canadian than New England ports with Royal Caribbean 's seven-night voyages on the 2,191-passenger Jewel of the Seas, setting sail in September and October 2024, and 2,142-passenger Brilliance of the Seas, departing in September and October 2025. Most itineraries call in Portland, Maine; Saint John; Sydney; and Halifax.

The ships are among Royal Caribbean's older and smaller ships, so don't go in expecting a humongous megaship with wild top-deck amenities (a good thing or not, depending on your style). You'll still find plenty of dining options (including Izumi for Japanese cuisine and Giovanni's Table for Italian), the line's signature circular Viking Crown Lounge and — perfect for fall weather — an indoor, adults-only solarium.

Best for : Royal Caribbean fans seeking a midsize ship experience with fewer children on board should book this cruise. Anyone looking for a round-trip cruise to Canada that doesn't require a passport will appreciate the convenient Boston departure port (with plenty of beautiful fall foliage on its own) and three port calls in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

7-night Puget Sound and San Juan Islands cruise on American Cruise Lines

cruise singapore fall

Canada and New England aren't the only regions of the U.S. known for their fall foliage. American Cruise Lines offers several small-ship sailings in October to other leaf-peeping regions, including the Hudson River Valley, the Upper Mississippi and the Chesapeake Bay.

But for something completely different, why not try the line's seven-night, round-trip Puget Sound and San Juan Islands cruise from Seattle on the 90-passenger American Spirit or the 170-passenger American Constellation?

Your itinerary will take you to Anacortes, Friday Harbor, Port Angeles (gateway to Victoria, British Columbia, and Olympic National Park), Port Townsend and Poulsbo, Washington, with a day spent cruising around the San Juan Islands. Take advantage of the Fidalgo Island walking trails near Anacortes, and don't miss the photogenic Deception Pass nearby. Gaze at the Olympic and Cascade mountains in their fall glory, and enjoy the fall weather in historic waterfront towns.

Best for : Travelers looking for a different destination for their fall foliage cruise, but also cruisers who prioritize time on shore over time on the ship. American Cruise Lines' ships are tiny, just four to six decks, with amenities limited to a restaurant, a couple of lounges, small fitness areas and a sun deck, perhaps with a putting green. Be prepared to entertain yourself in the evenings — or go to bed early so you're energized for a full day in port nearly every day. Also, know that these ships generally draw an older retiree crowd.

12-day Canada and New England Fall Foliage cruise on Seabourn

cruise singapore fall

Smaller ships can visit more off-the-beaten-path ports than their big-ship counterparts. Seabourn 's 458-passenger Seabourn Quest (2024) and Seabourn Sojourn (2025) sail 12-day cruises between New York and Montreal. Itineraries vary slightly by sail date, but visit several destinations in Quebec, including Trois-Rivieres, Quebec City, Baie-Comeau and Saguenay, with scenic cruising along the Saguenay Fjord. The ship also visits Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; and Halifax, Nova Scotia; it stops at a couple of American ports, too, such as Newport, Rhode Island, and Boston, Martha's Vineyard or Provincetown, Massachusetts.

This is also one of the best fall foliage cruises if you're looking for an all-inclusive voyage in luxurious surroundings. On Seabourn Quest, every cabin is a suite with a view (not to mention a walk-in closet and spacious bathroom with tub). You can enjoy gourmet cuisine, complimentary wine and cocktails and a friendly crew that will go above and beyond for you.

Best for : Luxury lovers who wish to be pampered on their leaf-peeping vacation will enjoy this nearly two-week cruise around Canada and New England. The extended itinerary features several days at sea to enjoy the ship's spa or delicious afternoon tea service, as well as some lesser-visited ports and, on select departures, an overnight in Halifax. It's ideal for travelers who want to make the most of their fall Northeast trip.

Bottom line

You might be surprised by how many choices you have for late-September and October fall foliage cruises. In addition to Seabourn, all the major luxury cruise lines dedicate a few cruises to this region, including such lines as Silversea Cruises , Regent Seven Seas Cruises , Windstar Cruises , Oceania Cruises and Crystal . Big ships like NCL's Norwegian Breakaway and Getaway also get into the leaf-peeping action.

Here, we've picked the best fall foliage cruises for different itinerary configurations and ship styles. They might be our favorites, but only you know which combination of ports and onboard experience is the perfect match for your travel style.

7 amazing cruise itineraries to book in 2024

I don't know about you, but each year, as the weather turns cold, I start daydreaming about getting out of Dodge — or, in my case, Pennsylvania. My mind wanders to cruises that will take me to places where the temperature is warmer, but I also take a hard look at the (exceptionally lengthy) list of places I'm longing to visit.

After digging through what's new for 2024, I've come up with a shortlist of sailings that I think are noteworthy. They range from a standard Bahamas voyage with a new twist and an extended Alaska sailing that includes a foray across the Arctic Circle to more far-flung destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Dream on, dear reader, and add these to your list of 2024 cruise itineraries.

Note: All prices listed are per person, based on double occupancy, unless otherwise noted. Fares do not include taxes and fees.

Seabourn's 'Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas' itinerary

Last year, the Australia and New Zealand cruise region gained momentum following the pandemic shutdown. In 2024, the hardly populated Australia region of The Kimberley is gaining popularity. Luxury cruise brand Seabourn will be offering a series of six 10-night voyages between Broome and Darwin on expedition vessel Seabourn Pursuit during what will be early winter in the southern hemisphere.

The line's " Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas " will take passengers to places along the coast few passengers are able to visit to see the stunning teal waters and horizontal waterfalls of Talbot Bay, sample wines in the Hunter River Region and check out nature preserves in Wyndham.

Details: The first sailing, from Darwin to Broome, embarks on June 12. The final voyage, from Broome to Darwin, departs on Aug. 1. Prices start from $6,134 per person ($613 per person, per night), double occupancy, for the July 2 cruise. All accommodations are suites with balconies.

Celebrity's 'Best of Japan' and 'Vietnam and Thailand' cruises

The number of voyages in Asia was trending upward notably prior to 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought cruising in the region to an extended halt. And it's once again on the rise. Following that curve, Celebrity Cruises will be running new 11- to 13-night Asia sailings in 2024 on two ships — Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Solstice — that bring stops in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand.

What's notable about the offerings is that they will aim to immerse passengers further into the destinations by including overnights in a total of 11 ports across all itineraries. That means more time to explore Hanoi's Old Quarter as the sun sets, indulge in nighttime gastronomy in Hong Kong, visit one of Bangkok's many markets, or learn why Osaka is known for street food.

Details: Celebrity Millennium's " Best of Japan " cruises run from early mid-March to early October. At press time, the least expensive fares — for a 12-night sailing — start from $1,330 per person ($111 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. It travels round-trip from Yokohama and visits Hiroshima, Pusan and other ports, including Osaka, where the ship will overnight.

Celerbrity Solstice's Vietnam and Thailand cruises kick off in mid-January and run through March. The ship will resume them again in the fall of 2024 and run through the winter season. Prices start from $1,255 per person ($105 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. The voyage sails from Hong Kong to Singapore with stops in Da Nang and Koh Samui, plus overnights in Hanoi and Bangkok.

SeaDream's 'Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles' sailing

Here's one to put on your radar if you're looking to book — but not necessarily sail — in 2024. It's a new Mediterranean itinerary that doesn't start up for nearly three more years, in 2026. The SeaDream routing brings stops at seven ports that are rarely visited by cruise passengers. During the seven-night voyages, there will be calls at Primosten, Croatia; Cesme, Turkey; Cetubal, Portugal; and Kythira, Kythnos, Syvota and Tinos, Greece — making these sailings unique and well-suited to anyone who loves the region but who's looking for new places to experience.

SeaDream's small ships, each of which carries just 112 people, are able to reach locales about which passengers on megaships can only fantasize. Couple that with excellent service, and you'll be visiting the Our Lady of Loretto statue in Primosten, touring the Cesme Castle and lounging on stunning Greek beaches from a home base that puts you squarely in the lap of luxury.

Details: An itinerary that includes three of the seven new ports is the 11-night " Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles " itinerary from Venice, Italy, to Athens, Greece, departing on Aug. 8, 2026, on SeaDream I. Prices start from $10,399 per person ($946 per person, per night) for a room with a porthole view.

Holland America's 'Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice' Legendary Voyage

Alaska is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys the vastness of untouched wilderness, the wildlife it houses and adventurous pursuits it provides. (Think whale-watching, hiking on glaciers and salmon fishing.) However, Holland America 's Westerdam is hosting a 28-day sailing that's anything but your standard cruise to the Last Frontier .

Passengers will visit the usual Alaska ports, such as Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau, with scenic sailing through the Inside Passage, past Hubbard Glacier and to Glacier Bay. But they can also expect less-common stops at places like Nome, Kodiak, Anchorage (with an overnight) and Homer. Plus, about halfway through, this cruise crosses the Arctic Circle — a rite of passage for many travelers.

Details: Holland America's 28-day " Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice " cruise — one of the line's Legendary Voyages, known for longer durations and a unique mix of port calls — sails June 9-July 7, round-trip from Seattle. Inside cabins start from $5,299 per person (about $189 per person, per night).

Silversea's summertime French Polynesia cruises

Another consideration for future travel is Silversea Cruises , which is featuring its first full-summer season in French Polynesia in 2026. Silver Whisper will offer two immersive itineraries, including overnights, across 17 voyages between April and September.

Passengers can choose seven-night sailings that visit idyllic favorites like Tahiti, Moorea and Huahine and which also include overnights in Bora Bora. Or, they can cruise for twice as long by selecting a 14-night voyage that calls on the same ports as the seven-night option but with Fakarava, Nuku Hiva, Fatu Hiva, Atuona and Tahuata added.

Details: Silversea's seven-night voyages begin April 6, 2026, and start from $5,650 per person ($808 per person, per night) for an ocean-view cabin.

The line's 14-night sailings start on April 20, 2026. Fares start from $10,450 per person ($747 per person, per night) for ocean-view accommodations.

New Bermuda voyages on Carnival Venezia

Beginning in May of 2025, Carnival Cruise Line 's Carnival Venezia will sail a series of eight four- and five-night cruises to Bermuda from New York. These itineraries are notable because the line is aiming to increase its presence there but also because the style of the ship is new to even most of the brand's most dedicated passengers.

In 2022, Carnival announced its Costa by Carnival concept after revealing it would be transferring ships from its Costa sister brand to the Carnival fleet. Now, when travelers visit the Gibb's Hill Lighthouse or check out the island's renowned pink-sand beaches during a sailing on Carnival Venezia, they can enjoy both the Italian style of the ship and Carnival's fun atmosphere and high service standards.

Details: Voyages kick off on May 22, 2025. Prices start from $429 per person ($108 per person, per night) for an inside cabin on a four-night cruise departing Sept. 18, 2025.

Disney Cruise Line's Lighthouse Point itineraries

Disney Cruise Line 's new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point , a private destination on the Bahamian island of Eleuthera, is set to open in June with a three-night preview sailing on June 6 aboard Disney Magic. Following the initial voyage, the line will run regular three- to seven-night voyages to Lighthouse Point on Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream.

The island will feature a dedicated family beach and water play area, an arts and culture pavilion focused on Bahamian culture, 20 family cabanas, an adults-only beach and a selection of shore excursion options.

Details: Prices for itineraries that include Lighthouse Point start from $624 per person ($208 per person, per night) for a three-night cruise on Disney Magic. The cruise departs Nov. 5 and sails from Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

NBA playoffs: Nikola Jokić, Nuggets cruise to blowout win over Timberwolves in Game 3

The nuggets rolled to a dominant 117-90 win over the timberwolves on friday night to pick up their first win in the series.

Nikola Jokić and the defending champions weren’t going to just roll over and call it.

Jokić and the Denver Nuggets , after a brutal start in the Western Conference semifinals, came out firing on Friday night in Minneapolis. They cruised to a dominant 117-90 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 3. The win, after slipping in the first two games at Ball Arena in Denver, finally has them on the board in the series. It also handed the Timberwolves their first loss of the postseason, which completely stunned the sellout crowd at the Target Center.

After a tight first quarter, the Nuggets closed out the period on a quick 12-4 burst to grab an eight-point lead at the break. That was, at that point, Denver's largest lead of the series.

From there, Denver took off. The Nuggets opened the second period on a huge 17-5 run, and they took a 20-point lead after Christian Braun drilled a 3-pointer just minutes into the quarter. Just like that, the Timberwolves were nearly out of it.

The Nuggets held Minnesota to just 21 points in the second quarter, which gave them a 15-point lead at halftime. Karl-Anthony Towns was the only Timberwolves player to reach double figures in the first half after he hit four 3-pointers. Jamal Murray had 18 of his 24 points in the first half for Denver after his rough outing in Game 2 — which resulted in a $100,000 fine from the league after he threw things onto the court out of frustration. The Nuggets simply dominated throughout the first 24 minutes.

The Nuggets then pushed their lead past 20 points quickly in the third quarter after Aaron Gordon hit a pair of 3-pointers and Michael Porter Jr. followed with one of his own in the span of about a minute — which all but put the Timberwolves away for good. The Nuggets pushed their lead to 27 points by the end of the third quarter, and then had no issue finishing the 27-point win.

Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 19 points after shooting 8 of 15 from the field. Towns finished with 14 points, and Mike Conley added 10 points, six assists and six rebounds. Minnesota went just 9 of 27 from the 3-point line. Frustrations boiled over at the end, too, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker was tossed from the game in the final minutes after arguing with the officials.

Nikola Jokic headshot

Jokić finished just shy of a triple-double to lead the Nuggets. He had 24 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists. Murray had four assists and four rebounds to go with his 24 points, and Porter finished with 21 points. The Nuggets shot nearly 54% from the field as a team and just shy of 49% from behind the arc.

Friday’s game completely got away from the Timberwolves. Though they still hold the edge in the series, Sunday’s Game 4 is now critically important for a team that hasn’t been to the Western Conference finals in two decades. If they have to go back to Denver next week tied 2-2, it will truly be anyone’s series to win.
