Just In Case Travel Kit List (19 Essentials)
- June 5, 2021
Most of the *ultimate travel packing lists* focus on the fun parts of travel. The bags, the gear; the stuff that’s exciting to think about and buy. This travel kit list is full of the other stuff you need to take traveling. Consider this your just in case travel kit that everyone hopes they won’t ever need.
But, that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun! Whether you’re backpacking, on a road trip, city-hopping or traveling full-time, these are the essentials for your travel packing checklist.
This emergency travel packing list will help you to be more prepared, resilient and result in a more enjoyable trip. I affectionately call this just in case travel kit my travel “headquarters,” and it has saved the day countless times. Pack the items on this travel kit list, and I’m sure it will bail you out, too.
Taking time for travel preparedness isn’t just good common sense, but it’s also an essential part of being a more sustainable traveler . Being able to repair a buckle or mend a shirt mid-trip will reduce your need to purchase new gear. If you have the means to fix things when they break, you save items from the landfill and also the resources and carbon footprint of buying a new product to replace it.
Extending the life of your gear stops you from having to send your old gear to the landfill, and also saves you money. Being prepared for traveling is a win all around!
This is my personal travel emergency kit list, and you’ll probably be able to tell that I love being prepared. If you’re thinking about the just-in-case items you need for a trip, use my travel kit list as a guide and take or leave items as they suit you.
Let’s get right into the travel essential packing list that will help you be prepared for whatever travel throws at you.
Pause now and pin for later!
Just In Case Personal Items
1. Vomit bag
I truly hope you’ll never need this vomit bag, but if you feel even a little queasy you’ll be so thankful to have on hand. No trip packing list is complete without this.
Just because you’ve never been motion sick doesn’t mean that it will never happen. Personally, I’ve never been car sick in my entire life, until riding in a van up tiny hairpin roads through high elevation in Peru. The changing altitude got to me, and I’ve never felt that sick to my stomach in my life.
Remember that food is also a wild card – your stomach may not be used to the cuisine wherever you are, plus not every country has laws around food ( “does this taste old to you?” ).
I met a Canadian man who had been vomited on while traveling – by people he didn’t know – twice. TWICE! * shudders * Let’s all agree to carry vomit bags so that if we cross paths somewhere in the world, we don’t accidentally puke on each other.
Beyond your just in case travel kit, I actually recommend you sneak a vomit big into your messenger bag, bookbag, purse, etc. for daily emergencies. It takes up no space, but if it’s needed, it will save the day.
Any paper bag will do. If you’ll be flying for your next trip, take some from the plane. Vomit bags should be in the seat-back pockets or you can ask a flight attendant.
2. Dramamine
You need this item in your travel kit list for the same reasons as the vomit bag. Just remember to store it somewhere reachable , not in a bag that you’ll be stowing away under the bus, train , or aircraft.
Anyone who is prone to motion sickness pack a bottle in their just in case travel kit. For the rest of us blessedly strong stomachs, just take a few tablets as a backup.

3. Toilet paper
Not all countries provide free toilet paper in bathrooms like a lot of us are used to.
Even in the US, I’ve seen some pretty ragged rest stops that weren’t stocked ( I’m looking at you, latrine on the southern border of Arizona that hadn’t seen any love in an unseemly amount of time ).
When you’ve gotta go, you’ve gotta go, toilet paper on hand or not, so be prepared.
If you’re going on a long trip, I would take a whole roll (squish it flat and store it in a ziplock bag to keep it clean). For a smaller trip, enough for emergencies should be fine.
4. Hand sanitizer
It’s not the norm everywhere to wash hands after using the bathroom. I’ve seen many bathrooms that don’t provide soap or have running water.
If it’s your personal norm to do so, then you’re going to want hand sanitizer. Start every trip with a travel-size bottle and buy more along the way if you have to.
Also, if you’re in the position to spend a little bit more money, choose a cruelty-free and vegan hand sanitizer to make a more conscious purchase.
Vegan, Cruelty-Free, Eco-Friendly Hand Sanitizer on Amazon
5. Liquid IV
It takes constant, intentional effort to stay hydrated when you travel. In my humble opinion, conscious hydration is one of those hidden-gem travel trips that can help you really improve your health and wellbeing. Bring a little help in the form of Liquid IV.
Liquid IV is an electrolyte powder that provides rapid hydration. It contains glucose, sodium and potassium that “delivers water and other key nutrients directly to your bloodstream, hydrating you faster and more efficiently than water alone.” (more product specifics can be found here from the company themselves )
This is a miracle powder. Staying intentionally hydrated will make you enjoy traveling more. In particular, this will save you during long-haul bus rides or flights, while hiking, or emergencies like plain old dehydration.
Reflecting on my own travel memories, there are so many times when I know I would’ve felt better and enjoyed my surroundings more if I hadn’t been so dehydrated.
The worst offender was a long bus ride from Lima to Cusco in Peru. It was supposed to be about 18 hours, and usually, buses make stops along the way. This bus, for whatever reason, didn’t. And there had been a landslide which required the bus to slow down and carefully drive over the rubble, so instead of 18 hours, this bus ride took 27.
I only had one bottle of water on the trip, and I felt so deeply *wrong* by the time we arrived. I only peed once in 27 hours. Not drinking water or using the bathroom makes you feel terrible and has health implications.
Tuck a few Liquid IVs into your just in case travel kit and you’ll be happy you have them.

6. First Aid Kit
There are two types of first aid kits you should have for traveling. The first is a small kit for shorter trips, or for traveling in places where you’ll never be far from help. For example, it’s probably overkill to pack a splint for just a weekend in Paris, where help could arrive very quickly if an accident were to occur.
I am not a certified first aid expert, so you should consult the American Red Cross’s recommendations for further safety information.
First Aid Items For Short Trips
What I recommend: take a full first aid kit on long trips, but for a week or less, just take the basics ( except for outdoors-focused trips, in which case you should always take a fully loaded first aid kit ).
Here are some health-focused items for your travel kit:
- Multiple sizes of bandaids
- BleedStop , a powder that you pour into cuts or wounds to stop bleeding
- Alcohol cleansing pads
- Benadryl to treat allergies and itches
- Moleskin for blisters
- Antibiotic ointment for treating cuts, burns and reducing the risk of infection
- Bandage tape
- Liquid IV (for dehydration, diarrhea/food poisoning, etc.)
- Wound closures – this may sound intense, but they’re so tiny and they work so well at closing cuts
- Small scissors – for cutting gauze, Moleskin, or (in extreme cases) clothes off
First Aid Items For Long Trips
Just so you know: this list does not include every single first aid item you should include on your travel kit list. My kit has more than 100 pieces in it, and this is just covering the highlights. You should refer to the American Red Cross for professional advice. Especially if you’ll be in a scenario where help would be delayed ( such as on a boat, in the backcountry, etc. ).
- Medical gloves
- Surgical mask – you can buy these in the first aid section of most stores, or even get them for free during flu season. If you’re going anywhere with volcanoes or a chance of earthquakes or wildfires, you should take one. Filling your lungs with ash or dust is painful and damaging. Individually-wrapped is best
- A Sam Splint for stabilizing sprains and bone breaks
- Foil thermal blanket
- Instant ice pack
- A Sharpie for extreme scenarios in the backcountry. In the event that two people are in the backcountry together and one of them incurs a life-threatening injury and is unable to move, their partner may have to leave them to seek out help. A Sharpie is used to write information on the injured person, in the event that they lose consciousness and are discovered by someone else. If you’re going into the backcountry, you really must prepare by taking the American Red Cross Wilderness And Remote First Aid Course .
Personally, I love first aid and preparedness ( am I the only one? Do you also get a kick out of being prepared?? ). But if this seems like too much work, you can buy a premade safety kit and add any additional pieces yourself to flesh it out.
Pro tip: if you assemble your emergency kit yourself, be sure to opt for travel-size first aid items. It’s not as cost-effective, but larger volumes of liquids will become a hassle going through airport security. You can store everything easily in a small toiletry bag.

7. Zipties in an assortment of sizes
These are great for MacGyvering broken items.
A zip tie can become a makeshift shoelace, zipper pull, bag handle – you get it. Endlessly handy to have.

8. Small scissors
If you take scissors, you will find yourself using them. It’s just one of those things! Personally, I like actual scissors over a pocket knife, but a knife will probably tick this box as well in many situations.
Plus, as I mentioned in #5, scissors are an essential part of a complete first aid kit , useful for cutting clothing, gauze, bandages or Moleskin.

9. Pen and marker
These might be items you don’t think you’ll need, but if you end up do needing to write something down and don’t have anything, you’re out of luck.
You’ll need a pen to fill out any customs forms if you’re going abroad. A marker is handy for labeling your food in a hostel kitchen.
10. Paracord
Paracord is handy in mending broken items, or making something new altogether – I have 2 friends that built a makeshift tent out of tarp and paracord when they couldn’t find a hostel for the night. For bonus travel preparedness points, consider bringing a roll of reflective paracord . After a camping snafu where I tied up a bear bag in a tree and then couldn’t find it, I now use the reflective paracord to help mark things.
That can be a bear bag, the entrance to the campsite, small items that are easily overlooked and left behind when packing.
When doing a lot of bus travel, it can also be handy to tie reflective paracord to backpack . This makes it easy to spot when unloading a bus in the middle of the night or trying to describe your bag to the person returning luggage.

11. Lighter
Even if you’re not a smoker, it’s just one of those basics that is good to have. If you do smoke or use a lighter often, consider getting an electric lighter and making it the last lighter you’ll ever need.
That’s right, locks plural! I recommend taking two locks on every trip.
Combination Lock and Cable
The first lock that you need in your just in case travel kit is a standard combination lock with a cable . Reduce your odds of being robbed by keeping your backpacks together. This is handy if you have to sleep somewhere public (like an airport) or if you, for some reason, have to leave your bags behind.
By tying bags together, you make it much more unlikely that an opportunist will come up and discretely walk off with your bag.
Take a cable lock around both packs, going through zipper pulls or handles to make sure it’s actually connected, then put the ends of the cable on the lock and lock it.
Then, throw a raincoat over the top of the packs for discretion.
If someone came over while you were sleeping, just the sound of pulling the jacket off would probably wake you, but there’d be no way to quickly take off with huge packs tethered together.
This may sound intense to some travelers, but I’ve had my room rummaged through and robbed before so I’ve made it a habit to be proactive. That’s a good quality for anyone who wants to travel long-term .

Double-Sided Cable Lock
The second lock you should always include in your just in case travel kit is a double-sided cable lock .
First, you lock your bag shut so no one can go through it. The cable is flexible, so if your bag doesn’t have those luggage pulls with the lock holes in it, you can still get it through.
Next, you lock the longer loop through something else , like your seat or the overhead luggage rack, making it impossible to swipe. With this, no one can rummage through your bag or walk off with it.
With enough time and tools, a thief could still cut your bag, etc. but this is a great deterrence for opportunists.
You can find a double-sided cable lock here . If you’d like more on this topic, I have an entire blog piece on just securing your packs .

13. Ziplock bags in an assortment of sizes
In your day-to-day life, it’s best to avoid Ziplock bags because of the plastic epidemic, but they’re invaluable when on the road. Take an assortment of sizes.
Some of the best uses : water bag to seal off your electronics during a rainstorm, taking food to-go, “packing out” toilet paper if you’re going to the bathroom in the woods, keeping your liquid toiletries separate from everything else in your bag in case something leaks. That list goes on and on.
You don’t need anything fancy, just something that could maybe repair a broken plastic piece of your pack or reattach the bottom of your shoe.
It’s an unusual travel accessory, but Sugru glue is the glue for the job. It’s super versatile: it’s flexible, mouldable, waterproof and small to carry with you.
This glue is so amazing that I even included it on my holiday gift guide . Glue is a ~super cool~ gift when it does THIS much!
Sugru All-Purpose Adhesive on Amazon
Pro tip: if you add another type of glue to your travel kit list, be sure to store it in a little Ziplock bag. Sugru is individually wrapped, but a liquid glue that’s just in a tube presents a leakage risk. That would be disastrous!
15. Mini sewing kit
This is worth its weight in gold if (when) you a tear in your clothes. You don’t need to be a skilled seamstress, just being able to sew up a hole or reattach a button is immensely useful and can save you from needing to buy new clothes.

16. Rain Gear For You And Your Backpack
“What do weathermen and politicians have in common? They both get paid to lie.” My grandfather told me that joke probably a thousand times while I was growing up.
There’s a lesson to be learned in there though: never rely on the forecast to be accurate.
Your just in case travel kit isn’t ready without some rain gear. It doesn’t have to be bulky or heavy-duty. My rain suit is essentially just a glorified garbage bag, but it’s been keeping me dry for years. I recommend something packable that folds into a little pouch and disappears into your bag until you need it.

Now that you’re covered, don’t forget your bag! A wet bag is inconvenient, smelly and I reckon expensive if anything gets ruined and needs to be replaced. Your just in case travel kit isn’t ready with a rain cover for your bag as well as your body.

Pro tip: test your raincoat while you still have the opportunity to return it! Make sure it’s truly waterproof, and not just water-resistant. This is particularly important if you’re traveling during a country’s rainy season.
17. Whistle
There are two primary travel and outdoor scenarios where a whistle is extremely valuable.
The first is situations where you’re lost or injured and need to draw attention to yourself. You can blow on a whistle for hours without losing your voice or dehydrating yourself, unlike yelling for help. The internationally recognized distress call is 3 blows of a whistle. If you’re hiking, attach this to the shoulder strap of your backpack so that if you’re injured and unable to move, you can lean to your shoulder and blow the whistle even if you’re trapped or badly injured.
The second is when faced with animal or criminal confrontations. A whistle is like a personal security alarm that will draw attention to your situation. This can potentially scare off criminal encounters or aggressive animals.
In addition to carrying a whistle on your backpacking shoulder strap, carry one in your purse, messenger bag or whatever you always keep on your person while traveling.
Emergency Whistle With Lanyard on Amazon
An exciting step of preparing for traveling is getting the local currency of your exciting destination. In addition to your day-to-day money, you’ll also want to keep a reserve of extra money for emergencies and unexpected situations. Here are 3 steps to take to effectively prepare yourself.
Take a reserve of US dollars for most destinations (except in Europe – it’s unlikely anyone will accept dollars). Not only is the US dollar accepted by many countries worldwide, but it’s also required at some international checkpoints. I learned this the hard way when crossing the border from Honduras to Nicaragua. Neither country used the US dollar as their currency, yet it was the only accepted currency to pay the entry fee with.
A proactive amount of money to take for 2 people is $300. Don’t take big bills, because you might not be able to get change. Take a division of ones, fives and tens.
Only take clean bills . Bills with writing or tears may very well be rejected because they won’t be accepted by the local banks. American banks will accept anything, but that’s not the case abroad. Whoever is accepting your money also needs to feel confident that it’s not counterfeit, and a dollar bill with a woman’s phone number written on it doesn’t exactly ooze that confidence.
Scatter the bills between your bags , and never carry this around in your day-to-day exploring. You tempt fate when you carry large amounts of cash on you will perusing the streets.
Most people who travel long enough have had their bags rummaged through by opportunists, so make it difficult for someone to find your cash reserve. Split up your money and store it any number of random places in your bag:
- In the toe of your packed shoes, beneath socks and other stored items
- Tucked into your first aid kit
- Taped inside of a notebook
Pro tip: do *not* take big bills. Take an assortment of small bills instead. Getting change for small bills is a common problem in some countries, even for the local currency.
19. Miscellaneous Items For Your Just In Case Travel Kit
These are items that have just come in handy and are small enough to toss in.
- Carabiners in assorted sizes
- Binder clips in assorted sizes
- Rubber bands in assorted sizes
- Safety pins in, you guessed it, assorted sizes!
Don’t pack the whole container of these items, but rather take a few of each out and store them in a small Ziplock bag.
Putting Your Just In Case Travel Kit Together
Your travel preparedness items should all be stored together in a pouch or a small packing cube and stored in an accessible area. If you’re traveling with a backpack , keep it in the brain, or the topmost part of your pack, so that it can be easily reached .
On smaller trips with just a day bag, toss this into the abyss of your bag.

That's a lot of stuff to carry. I would reduce the bags to just one and save a lot of space and airline fees :)
You know that your phone has a flashlight right? That can replace the mini-light.
Otherwise, very helpful. Thanks for sharing.

A favorite of Traveler editor Meaghan Kenny, this popular lip balm makes for another great stocking stuffer or gift set inclusion. Use it at bedtime, in the morning, or mid-flight to hydrate dry, flaky lips.
Nodpod eye mask
An eye mask is a light sleeper's travel essential, and Nodpod took things up a notch by creating a weighted version. Best for long-haul flights where you'll be in a lay-flat seat, or to use in bed—the mask can be secured with its pull-through slit, but is best used simply draped over your eyes—it adds a bit of weight to your eyes, promoting a deeper, more restful sleep.
Alex Mill The Perfect Weekday Tote
Every traveler needs a solid tote to bring on road trips and use as a personal item. This Alex Mill bag gets the job done and has a classic look they won't tire of. It fits up to a 13” laptop, plus all the other essentials: phone, keys, wallet, water bottle, snacks, the works.
Lay-n-Go drawstring toiletry bag
Travelers who are also regulars at Sephora or Ulta will appreciate this cool makeup bag : Instead of having to dump out all your products to find what you're looking for, the bag opens up by way of drawstrings, and can be laid out as a circle on any surface, allowing every product to be on display.
Mountain Valley Train Puzzle
The 1,000-piece puzzle, made out of other recycled puzzle boards, is based on the artwork of Lars Stewart. This super-detailed piece captures a scenic ride through the Arizona desert with illustrations of wildlife, maps, recognizable travel gear, and more.
Ceremonia The Scalp Power-Duo
Ceremonia is a favorite of many Traveler editors, and this haircare set will turn any giftee into a fan. It comes with a scalp massager and scalp remedy oil—use the former to distribute the latter evenly and gently exfoliate the scalp.
Behind the Bar: 50 Cocktail Recipes from the World's Most Iconic Hotels by Alia Akkam
Written by Traveler contributor Alia Akkam , Behind the Bar takes readers to 50 iconic hotel bars around the world, offering recipes and historical tidbits from each. Perfect for the consummate host in your friend group, they'll have a good time recreating classics and discovering new cocktails from home.
Parachute Waffle Robe
A cozy robe is always a winner in our book, and Parachute makes some of the best. This classic waffle robe will remind them of days spend luxuriating at the hotel spa.
Papier travel notebook
You're either a journal person or you're not, but if you are, you know you can never have too many notebooks on hand. This pretty Papier pad will be a welcome addition to the stack, and is customizable: choose lined, plain, or dotted sheets, and either a hard or soft cover.
Go Neck Pillow
Ostrichpillow makes a whole bunch of nap-friendly designs , but we're partial to the classic Go Neck pillow for long-haul flights or lengthy road trips. It is made with a supportive (and compressive) memory foam, and has a Velcro close for an easily adjustable fit. Plus, it comes with a carrying case.
Béis The Weekender Bag
A real text I got from a friend after writing about this Béis weekender : “BÉIS CONVERT FOREVER. You did not oversell this. Truly a miracle.” It has plenty of room inside for clothes, accessories, and toiletries, and a bottom compartment for shoes, dirty clothes, or anything else you want to keep separate.
Welly Adventure Kit
Slip this into the stocking of any thrill-seeking , accident-prone traveler. It comes with all the essentials—more than 50 bandages, tape, butterfly strips, antibiotic packets, hydrocortisone packets, Ibuprofen—in a compact, easy-to-stash kit.
Mzoo contoured sleep mask
A good sleep mask is a travel essential for overnight flights. This one is made of memory foam and has raised sections over your eyeballs for added comfort, but lies flat around the nose and eyebrows to thoroughly block out light.
Ugg Scuffita slide slipper
Shopping for a homebody? Consider these shearling-lined Ugg slippers, made for lounging around the house (or hotel, or Airbnb) in peak comfort and style.
Upoy charging station
This multi-port charging station is a gift for the whole family—or for one very tech-obsessed traveler who need to juice up a phone, AirPods, smart watch, and Kindle all at once.
Mansur Gavriel Soft Lady Bag
A re-imagination of Mansur Gavriel's popular Lady Bag, the Soft Lady Bag was released to celebrate the original's five-year anniversary. It's softer and slouchier than its predecessor, meaning it'll pack down better in your suitcase. With room for daily essentials (a phone, wallet, keys, earphones, and even an iPad) and interior compartments to keep you organized, it's a polished crossbody you'll use for years to come.
Paravel Packing Cube Quad (set of four)
Paravel's packing cubes—which helped turn Traveler editor Lale Arikoglu into a more organized packer —are a practical gift any traveler will appreciate. They now come in a set of four, with two small cubes, a medium, and a large; for an extra touch, have them personalized with your giftee's initials.
Diptyque Orphéon Eau de Parfum
Diptyque candles are always a welcome gift, but for something a little more unique, go for one of the brand's eau de parfums. This one was formulated to recreate the scent of a ’60s Parisian bar—the woody scent smells great spritzed around the home.
Airbnb gift card
Here at Traveler, we're always on the hunt for the coolest, coziest Airbnbs, whether we're looking for a romantic cabin getaway , a house with a pool , or one that can brighten up our mood with the sheer amount of color found within its four walls. For the travelers in your life who are also keen on staying in a rental, Airbnb gift cards can be purchased in amounts from $25 up to $500, so you can chip in (or cover) their next stay.
Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen
Arguably the most popular sunscreen amongst Traveler editors, this gel-like face SPF blends in easily, leaves no white cast, and feels great on your skin. It'll be a welcome addition to any stocking stuffer or gift set.
Polaroid Hi·Print 2x3 Pocket Photo Printer
Now that we all walk around with high-quality cameras in our pocket, fewer of our photos actually make it to print. This pocket-size printer from Polaroid spits out vibrant 2"x3" photos, so you can instantly hand over that new family portrait to grandma or share physical photos with a travel companion.
Sabah slip-ons
Comfortable shoes are a hot topic among travelers and these Sabah slip-ons have articles director Lale Arikoglu's stamp of approval . Handmade in Turkey, they come in a range of colors and are long-lasting: “After six years of ownership, my pair is completely intact with the exception of the color, which is slightly fading in a way that, if anything, has only made them look better,” Arikoglu says.
Nixon Wizard Stick Beverage Sling
This is a niche gift, but there's someone on your list who will absolutely love it. Nixon's insulated beverage sling fits six cans at once; they can bring it along to picnics, camping trips, tailgates, or hikes to keep drinks cold and avoid the clunkiness of a tote bag or backpack.
Hinoki Wood Rice Ball Mold
There are food gifts for friends who want a meal or snack that's nearly ready to go right out of the box. Then, there are gifts that require some effort. For the home chef who's looking to expand their cooking skills, gift a new kitchen tool like this rice ball mold, which they can use to shape homemade onigiri.
Gastro Obscura: A Food Adventurer's Guide
Another great coffee table book, Atlas Obscura's new tome is made for travelers who plan their trips around food. Inside, readers will find a guide to food experiences around the world, with chapters on every continent (including Antarctica!), as well as features on foodies like Tom Carvel, events like the Chicago World Fair, and “how to try it” tips. Just a few noteworthy inclusions: Jeju Island's free-diving sea women in South Korea, the world's largest edible mushroom in Zambia, and the great fruitcake toss in Colorado.
The Carried Away Convertible Backpack
Sarah Jessica Parker collaborated with Samsonite on this versatile bag, which has since sold out multiple times. It's a jack-of-all-trades—wear it as a backpack, carry it as a tote, or sling it over your shoulder. It comes with a removable clutch and an extra strap to turn the smaller bag into a cross-body. Otherwise, it has all the bells and whistles you'd expect in a travel backpack : luggage sleeve, water bottle pocket, laptop slot, etc.
Bokksu snack box subscription
There is no shortage of subscription boxes out there, but we're particularly fond of the edible ones. Bokksu, a Japanese snack service that recently launched an online Asian grocery store , sends recipients an assortment of sweet and savory snacks, candies, and teas on a monthly basis, sourced from small, family-run businesses in Japan.
Artifact Uprising Color Series Photo Book
Commemorate a special trip with a photo book from Artifact Uprising. Whether it's your first big trip this year or one taken decades ago, your loved ones will appreciate the thought that goes into picking out your favorite memories together.

Useful Travel Gifts: Essential Electronics
When it comes to practical travel gifts, smart gadgets are foolproof. Beyond being smart travel gift ideas, they are great for everyday life. Even during those humdrum periods when you rarely do more than commute to the office, many of these everyday essentials will come in handy.
1. The One Thing Every Person Needs: A Tiny Pocket-Sized Power Bank
A 10000mAh charger will power your phone, earbuds, or tablet in a flash. We especially love this model because you can throw it in your pocket and it has magnetic charging.
Buy your extra small power bank here .
2. Luxury Travel Gift Ideas: Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones
When it comes to electronics for travel lovers, nothing beats noise-canceling headphones. While most of us have some kind of headphones, they probably aren’t delivering concert hall-quality sound while completely silencing the crying baby sitting in front of you on the plane.
For an ultra-chic style and premium sound, it’s all about the Sony WH-1000XM5. Treat yourself or that someone special today .
4. Gifts for the Outdoor Adventure Travelers: Waterproof Phone Case
From the beach to the boat to the pool, a waterproof phone case that can float is a true must-have item. To protect your phone, go for the best of the best with a floating fully waterproof phone case that works for most phones and has a handy lanyard.
We love this Pelican hi-vis yellow two-pack that will keep your phone safe anywhere and everywhere.
3. Must-Have Travel Gadget: Ultra-Compact Size Portable Speaker
Maybe you’re listening to a podcast while you get ready in the hotel bathroom. Perhaps you’ve found yourself having an impromptu party on the beach. Maybe you’re just cleaning the house. Whatever the case might be, you deserve more than the tinny sounds of your phone.
Waterproof and small enough to fit in your pocket, we love the JBL Go 3. The sound quality is top notch and it comes in a range of fun colors. Grab yours here .
5. Travel Gadgets Worth the Investment: Wireless Hotspot
One of the most important things to do before traveling abroad is to make sure that you can use a SIM card abroad. Using a mobile hotspot router means that you can get affordable and reliable internet access anywhere in the world. Even if your phone is locked to a network (which many are!), you can still get online.
Buying a local SIM card with data can be as cheap as $10/month so it’s well worth investing in a hotspot that allows you to get online without losing access to your phone number or having to carry a second phone.
We love the RoamWiFi for its long battery life and reliability .
6. International Travel Essential: Universal Power Adapter
Rather than getting an adapter just for the next country that you are going to, upgrade to a universal adapter. It’ll save you time and money in the long run, especially if you opt for a model with USB and USB C ports.
For the ultimate travel must-have, go for the TESSAN International Plug Adaptor .
Gifts for Digital Nomads
For the digital nomad in your life, whose office is anywhere with a Wi-Fi connection, finding the perfect gift is all about bringing together practicality and tech-savvy ingenuity. Here are a few gifts for remote workers that tick all the boxes.
7. Tech Lover Travel Essentials: Cable Organizer
Even the most minimalistic, lightest packer among us probably has a messy pile of cables and chargers. For digital nomads who need to recreate a workstation on a regular basis, this can be extra annoying. Fortunately, a cable organizer can save the day.
A perfect gift for anyone who has more than a single item to charge (which is pretty much everyone these days!), buy the perfect fit-it-all electronics travel cable organizer here .
8. One Thing Everyone Needs: A Laptop Sleeve with a Laptop Stand
While most travelers have a decent laptop sleeve, far too many people are living without a laptop stand. Though laptop stands are often forgotten, they are actually a key investment in good remote work ergonomics and preventing neck pain.
A smart laptop sleeve like the HYZUO Laptop Sleeve Case with Stand makes working anywhere easy and comfortable.
Travel Gift Under $25
As easy as it is to break the bank, some of the best gifts for travelers on every budget are more affordable than you might think. Here are a few low-cost gifts for travel lovers that are sure to be a hit.
9. Help Prevent Accidents with Water Shoes

Every adventure our traveler needs good quality water shoes that fit well. We love these comfortable and practical water shoes .
10. Stay Organized While Traveling: Packing Cubes
You can eliminate the stress from traveling by staying organized. Learning how to use packing cubes will help you take stock before you go (and prevent you from forgetting anything). 14. Stay Organized While Traveling: Smart Luggage Add-On
If you’re anything like us, you probably feel like a total mess at some point during every trip. You knocked the lid off your coffee and it’s leaked all over your hand. You are reaching into your bag for the tenth time, convinced you’ve lost your phone. Save the travel lovers in your life from this stress!
We are obsessed with the Remot Luggage Travel Cup Holder . This hands-free drink carrier fits two cups or anything else that you want to have handy on the go.
15. Deliver a Good Quality Travel Water Bottle
As much as we love the everyday metal refillable bottles and cups, a collapsible water bottle is far more travel-friendly. You can toss it in your bag to refill everywhere from the water station at the airport to Roman fountains. Buy the collapsible filter water bottle in every color and size for the on-the-go people in your life.
16. Give Them a Gift to Take High-Quality Travel Pics
Ditch the selfie stick and learn how to take better selfies. For upgraded travel photos, reach for a good quality portable tripod. The ultra-practical KINGJUE Tripod Stand works with your phone, DSLR camera, or tablet.
Travel Gift Under $100
Whether you’re shopping for the seasoned adventurer or the aspiring globe-trotter, you can give them a gift they’ll cherish for less than $100. Here are a few of our top travel gifts for friends and family.

Whether you’re dancing at a concert, trying to relax on a plane, or working in a cafe, earplugs are far more useful than you might realize.
Loop earplugs have completely changed the game with a range of earplugs for every situation from calming your anxiety to getting a good night’s sleep when your hotel room is located above a noisy street. Here are the three options (and, yes, getting all three is actually really useful and not over the top at all).
- Quiet : Great for getting a good night’s sleep on plane
- Experience : Protect ears at concerts
- Engage : Stay relaxed while traveling
18. Affordable Luxury Travel Essential: Travel Sheets
There is something about sleeping in a bed that has been shared by hundreds… or thousands… of people before you that is not so comforting. If you have a travel-loving friend who is a bit of a germaphobe or maybe likes a certain thread count, treat them to the Cozy Silk Sleeping Bed Liner . Whether you put them out in a hostel, a campground, or a five-star hotel, they’ll instantly make any homesick traveler feel right at home.
Essentials for Active Travelers and Adventurers
Choosing the perfect gift for active travelers and adventurers is all about reliability. Think durable travel gear, compact gadgets, and innovative outdoor accessories. Here are a few of our favorites to get you inspired.
19. Easy Travel Gift for Men, Women, and Kids: The Ultimate Windproof Umbrella

25. Stay Hydrated While Traveling: Self-Cleaning and Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle
While it would be amazing to carry a refillable water bottle everywhere and just fill it up anytime, that’s not always realistic. In many places, the only choice is questionable water from the tap or an endless stream of plastic water bottles. Enter the LARQ Bottle to rescue ! This is the perfect gift for absolutely anybody.

Opt for the reliable, high-quality Etekcity Luggage Scale for trustworthy measurements.
27. Prevent Overpacking with a Clothesline
One of the most overlooked packing secrets is so simple: re-wear your looks! Rather than packing a different outfit for every day, plan to wash things on the go. Whether you are on a long trip or camping, washing your clothes will make life much easier.

Travel + Leisure / David Hattan
Shopping for your travel-loving friends and family can be tricky — after all, you’ll want to ensure you’re picking up something practical, but you also don’t want to gift them something they already have. It’s also worth considering that frequent travelers, especially digital nomads, tend to live a more minimalist life. This means practical gear will reign supreme over more frivolous items.
You’ll also want to take into account the kind of travel your favorite globetrotters or influencers are into. City explorers or luxury-leaning travelers, for example, probably won’t want the same gear as someone who spends their PTO hiking and trekking through the wilderness.
The following options were hand-picked by our team to suit every type of traveler and vacationer on your list. We’ve extensively researched (or personally tested) all of the following gifts to ensure your purchase will make a thoughtful and genuinely practical addition to your loved one’s travels. Here are the best gifts travelers will love — for all budgets and needs.
Solo Re:Define Backpack
You can’t go wrong with a new travel backpack, and the Solo Re:Define Backpack earns our top pick as the absolute best laptop backpack in the game. It’s lightweight and stylish while still roomy enough to hold the essentials whether your gift recipient plans to use it as a carry-on bag or as a city bag while exploring a new town. It also has a built-in USB port and headphone jack for ease of use.
Cabeau Evolution S3 Travel Pillow
The gift of a good night’s sleep on a red eye isn’t exactly something you can wrap in a bow and place underneath the tree — but the Cabeau TNE S3 Travel Pillow makes it possible. This is the best travel pillow in our book; it’s designed to attach to any headrest which helps keep the user’s head from dropping or moving around when sleeping. The air-like cushion is also super comfortable and cozy without being too hot.
Samsonite Freeform Carry-on Spinner
If your giftee is on the go a lot, chances are they could use new carry-on luggage . The Samsonite Freeform Carry-on Spinner is our top pick when it comes to long-lasting and practical carry-on luggage. It’s aesthetically pleasing but also incredibly durable and is able to withstand packed travel schedules thanks to the polycarbonate design.
Away Travel The Compression Socks
Compression socks might not seem like the most exciting holiday gift at first glance — but trust us when we say that once your loved ones start flying with the compression socks from Away, they won’t want to go back. These are the best compression socks we’ve found not just because they’re stylish but also because they work well (see: help prevent swelling and discomfort) without being too tight.
Paravel Passport Case
If your favorite travelers don’t already have a high-quality passport cover, you might want to consider the Paravel Cabana Passport Case. The elegant leather case is our highest rated passport case and can even be personalized with a hand-painted monogram or custom graphic to add another layer of elegance. We also like that this option has an abundance of pockets and card slots to make organization easier.
Stanley Quencher H2.0 FlowState Tumbler
The Stanley Quencher has become everyone’s favorite emotional support bottle over the past few months — and it’s easy to see why. This aesthetically pleasing cup fits up to 64 ounces of their favorite beverage and promises to keep their drink ice cold for hours. It’s also available in a ton of fun colorways and patterns.
Boka Fresh on the Go
The Boka Fresh on the Go set was made for travelers who avoid checking a bag at all costs. It includes everything they’ll need to maintain good oral hygiene while on the go, but the toothpaste is TSA-approved and the mouthwash — this is the best part — comes in the form of chewable tablets so it won’t even count toward their liquid quota.
T-core Power Bank
The T-core Power Bank makes a great stocking stuffer — look how tiny it is! — for travelers who are constantly in search of a power outlet to juice up their devices. The compact 10,000mAh portable power bank is small enough to fit in your pocket and can fully charge a new iPhone 2.9 times with one charge.
Jamaica Vibes
Jamaica Vibes is the latest in the Assouline coffee table book family — and possibly one of the most fun options to date. The stunning visual-first book will allow travelers to reminisce about any time spent in Jamaica (or dream about future trips) while the cover and spine of the book will add a dose of elegant and trendy style to coffee tables and bookshelves.
Contiki Tour
You can’t go wrong with the gift of travel itself, and if you’re looking for a big-ticket experience gift for a younger traveler in your life, look no further than a Contiki tour. The pre-packaged trips will take them all over the world with like-minded young people and range from exploring the Garden Route in South Africa to road-tripping through the Balkans.
Epicka Universal Travel Adapter
Sure, a travel adapter might not immediately come off as the most exciting gift. But any traveler will tell you just how valuable a reliable one really is. The Epicka Universal Travel Adapter is the best travel adapter in our book; it works in more than 150 countries and it’s super compact and easy to pack thanks to the modular design. Plus, you can always pair it with a flashier item like a travel-themed phone case .
L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream
Luxury hand cream is a great gift for anyone, but particularly for the frequent flyer. The L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream is very lightly scented (which is great for the plane), but it’s also incredibly moisturizing and rich in texture. It’ll serve as the hydration and comfort MVP during long, dry flights.
Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 16GB
Being a traveler and a voracious reader can be tricky — you likely don’t want to go bookless on the go, but who wants to lug several books from city to city just to make sure they’ve got reading material? Certainly not us, and that’s why the Kindle Paperwhite has become a non-negotiable. The ultra-lightweight device can store thousands of books in one spot and you can even download new content while traveling — so avid readers will never run out of material (or worry about going over the carry-on weight limit with books).
Mise 店 Udon Gift Set
Traveling to Japan changes you; once you’ve visited, you’ll want to return again and again. That’s why the Mise 店 Shoshi Watanabe Udon Gift Set is a major win for anyone who has traveled to (and fallen in love) with the country. The bundle includes everything your gift recipient will need to cook delicious udon at home, all of which has been sourced directly from Japan.
Lavazza Espresso Italiano
If they’re constantly posting throwbacks to their summer vacation in Italy, give them the gift of an Italian morning at home. The Lavazza Espresso Italiano tastes just like those shots of espresso you can guzzle at every corner cafe in Rome. Bonus points if you pick up a set of espresso cups to really set the mood.
SereneLife Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board
Amazon
The SereneLife Stand-up Paddle Board is an excellent option for anyone who wants to bring the spirit of resort life home. We tested out a variety of inflatable paddle boards and our team agrees that this is the best board on the market thanks to the lightweight, portable design and impressive stability in the water.
Jabra Elite 8 True Wireless Earbuds
It doesn’t matter if your gift recipient is a city or a wilderness traveler: everyone can use a reliable pair of earbuds to take on the road. The Jabra Elite 10 True Wireless Earbuds offer the same high-quality sound and design as much more expensive options, but the under-the-radar headphones come with a much more digestible price tag.
LARQ Bottle PureVis
The Larq Self-cleaning Water Bottle is a true game changer for all kinds of travelers. The smart bottle uses UV technology to not just disinfect itself but also to purify the water you’re drinking. This means the jetsetter you’re shopping for will be able to comfortably drink from most water sources without worrying about getting sick.
Tommy Bahama Backpack Beach Chair
The Tommy Bahama Backpack Beach Chair is simply the best beach chair around — and it makes a great gift for road-trippers and camping enthusiasts alike. It’s super easy to transport thanks to the folding backpack design and is surprisingly comfortable due to the adjustable head pillow and elongated seat. We also like that the frame is rust-proof, meaning it’s perfect for using at the beach or in the rain.
Gonex Compression Packing Cubes
Packing cubes are a game changer for efficient and organized packing, and the Gonex Compression Packing Cubes are our top pick for best packing cubes . The ultra-soft, lightweight ripstop nylon design simplifies packing and compresses everything from T-shirts and sweaters to socks and underwear, taking up way less space in a suitcase and making it easy to find specific garments without having to unpack completely.
Raytix RFID Money Belt
Travelers who take organization — and safety — seriously will particularly appreciate the Raytix RFID Money Belt. Our number one pick for the best money belt , this practical pouch is super comfortable to wear and is also large enough to hold things like earbuds, transit tickets, and other small travel accessories they may want to keep close by. It’s also available in a huge variety of fun colorways to suit every style
Intelligent Change Inc. The Five Minute Journal
Sometimes, it can be hard to live in the moment and absorb all the magic that is travel — but a gratitude journal can help ensure your globetrotter stays centered on the go. The Five Minute Journal takes, as advertised, just five minutes of a traveler’s time, but jotting down their thoughts for those few minutes will help them remember and appreciate the most exciting parts of their day while traveling or at home.
The Alchemist
This famous fable by Paulo Coelho is an excellent gift for travelers (and aspiring travelers) of all ages. The Alchemist is one of those books that we’ve read time and time again when searching for inspiration. It’s a quick but impactful read that’ll inspire anyone to continue to work toward their goals and find their own Personal Legend.
Andobil Car Phone Holder Mount
The best car phone holder mount in our book is the Andobil Car Phone Holder Mount, and it’ll make a great gift for roadtrippers and car commuters. It’s super easy to install and, once set up, is incredibly stable and easy to use while on the go. There’s also space to plug in a charger so drivers won’t have to mess around with their phone just to get some juice.
Puffer Hug 418 Scarf
Think of the Puffer Hug 418 Scarf as a stylish and equally practical alternative to the fishing vest. Hear us out: this cozy accessory serves as a regular scarf but also has tons of pockets for things like a smartphone or passport. It’s great for wearing to the airport when you need to have documents at the ready but is equally sensible for wearing to explore a new city.
Slip Silk Skinny Scrunchies
The Slip Pure Silk 4-pack Skinny Scrunchies is a fail-safe gift for anyone with long hair. The silk design is gentle on the hair and is designed to not pull or cause breakage, even with regular use. We also really like the elegant patterns and colors of the scrunchies, which can easily double as cute arm candy among a stack of bracelets.
Vinarmour Travel Wine Carrier
Wine-loving travelers will flip for the Vinarmour Travel Wine Carrier. This stunning carrier is designed to transport a bottle of wine without any risk of breakage. It features sufficient padding to keep the bottle safe while in transit, but it’s also made from leak-proof material — so even if the bottle was already damaged and cracks while in cargo, it won’t spill on the rest of your luggage.
Smithsonian White Mineral Globe Paperweight
Smithsonian
The Smithsonian White Mineral Globe Paperweight makes for a stunning addition to a coffee table or desk. The hand-polished globe is crafted from a stunning combination of two kinds of green jade, lilac lepidolite, red stone, marble, and abalone, and it’s designed to pay tribute to the National Gem and Mineral Collection — one of the largest collections of its kind.
The Harmonist Travel Coffret
The Harmonist
The Harmonist Travel Coffret is a game-changer when it comes to feeling fresh and relaxed in transit. The set of three heavily-concentrated perfumes were designed to foster a sense of calmness and relaxation thanks to the various notes, including patchouli, pomelo, Bulgarian rose, and vanilla. It also comes with a striking travel case to keep the vials safe in transit.
Spirit Daughter Malachite Palm Stone
Spirit Daughter
If you’ve got a nervous traveler on your list (or someone who could use a little extra protection), consider the gift of a Malachite Palm Stone. Malachite is believed to ward off danger and fight off illness which makes it a great healing crystal for any traveler to keep in their carry-on or toiletry kit while traversing the globe.
Twelve South AirFly Pro
The Twelve South AirFly Pro is such an easy way to upgrade the economy experience. This handy little device allows travelers to use their own Bluetooth headphones or earbuds with the inflight entertainment system rather than having to use the sub-par freebies provided by the airline. The AirFly is super easy to use as well — all you have to do is plug it into the headphone jack on the plane and pair it with your headphones.
Tumi Leather Jewelry Case
The Tumi Leather Jewelry Case is a game changer for anyone who typically travels with their jewelry loose in their carry-on or cosmetic bag. The beautiful leather accessory is striking in its own right, but the interior makes it incredibly easy to keep all jewelry and accessories properly stowed and organized on the go. The suede interior is also super soft and won’t scratch or scuff delicate pieces.
Four Seasons Velvet Slippers
Four Seasons
There’s something inherently luxurious about slipping into a pair of hotel slippers upon check in — and the Four Seasons Velvet Slippers amplify that feeling and bring it home. These stunning slippers are made in Italy from sleek velvet and cotton with the Four Seasons logo embroidered on the top. The elastic back and rubber sole make them appropriate for both indoor and outdoor use.
Apple AirTag
Don’t let your loved one get stuck with lost luggage sans AirTag. This tiny gadget offers major peace of mind for anyone who has to check a bag (and it’s worth throwing one in a carry-on, too — just in case a gate check situation arises). The AirTag is no bigger than a quarter and pairs with iPhones to easily track and monitor the location of gear at all times — and it has actually helped people get their suitcases back faster.
Nurse Jamie Super Cryo Mini Massaging Orb
The Nurse Jamie Super Cryo Mini Massaging Orb is a frequent flyer’s best friend. The device works to increase localized circulation and reduce surface-level inflammation in the skin. It stays cool for up to six hours at a time which should be more than enough to get jetsetters through a red eye to Europe. The stainless steel device can also be used hot for a soothing under-eye treatment.
Birdie Personal Safety Alarm
Here’s one for the solo female travelers on your list. The She's Birdie Personal Safety Alarm is designed to fit incognito in her handbag or pocket — but if she finds herself in any kind of trouble, it’s easy to grab and sound the alarm to draw attention and deter an attack. All she has to do is pull off the top tab to activate the 130-decibel siren and flashing strobe light.
Dagne Dover Tech Organizer
Dagne Dover
Nobody thinks they need a tech organizer while traveling, but when you take into account all the cables and adapters required to make international travel smooth, having a specific spot to keep everything untangled is major. The Dagne Dover Arlo Tech Organizer is small enough to pop into a carry-on but has plenty of interior space to store everything a traveler needs.
Lindsay Albanese Toptote Leather Hat Holder
Traveling with a cute hat seems like a great idea, but in practice it can be a bit of a pain. The Lindsay Albanese Toptote Leather Hat Holder allows travelers to bring along a wide-brim hat without having to wear it the entire commute or risking it getting crushed in a suitcase. The clip attaches to the brim of a hat and the built-in carabiner lets you pop it onto a handbag or carry-on for a hands-free solution.
Diptyque Travel Cleansing & Moisturizing Set
This cleansing and moisturizing set will be a welcome addition to any routine whether at home or on the go. The decadent set includes both rinse-free and regular hand wash as well as a moisturizing hand lotion — all of which smell just like your favorite luxury hotel bath products. We also like that this option comes with a cute carrying case that makes it easy to store the items in a handbag or carry-on.
Tangle Teezer Compact Styler Detangling Hairbrush
This detangling hairbrush is a must-have addition to any cosmetic bag thanks to its compact design and convenient top cover. The brush combats knots and tangles without damaging the hair, but it’s truly the streamlined design that makes it so great for travel; your giftee won’t have to worry about squishing the bristles or getting anything stuck in the brush. Plus, the shiny holographic-inspired finish is very pretty to look at.
Baimei Jade Roller & Gua Sha Facial Tools
You’ve probably already heard about the wonders of a jade roller, but the gua sha is just as efficient. This set of two gives travelers everything they’ll need to depuff after long flights or nights out. Note that this set is also available in amethyst and rose quartz, should your favorite traveler prefer a different hue.
Tinggly Bucketlist Experience Collection
If you prefer to gift experiences over physical items but aren’t sure where or when your recipient’s next trip is, consider a Tinggly Bucketlist Experience Collection. The gift package allows them to choose from hundreds of different experiences to partake in around the world, from sandboarding in Abu Dhabi to a food tour of Istanbul.
Vasco V4 Language Translator Device

For traveling abroad, the Vasco V4 Language Translator Device makes the experience so much easier — not just on the traveler but on the locals as well. This genius device provides instant voice translation in 108 languages and comes with free lifetime internet to ensure it’ll always be functional anywhere in the world. The instant translations mean your traveling pal can have real-time conversations with people across the globe, even if there’s no common spoken language.
Pokoloko Harem Towel
The Pokoloko Harem Towel is handcrafted using 100 percent Turkish cotton by artisans in Turkey — and it’s the perfect beach bag essential. It’s very lightweight and rolls down much smaller than the average towel. However, it’s also incredibly absorbent and quick-drying, so travelers can pop it back into their beach bag at the end of the day without worrying about lugging home a soggy towel.
Ugg Franca Hooded Travel Cardigan
The Ugg Franca Hooded Travel Cardigan was designed with travelers in mind. It’s ultra-cozy and comfortable, but it’s also incredibly easy to fold up and pack away when not in use. We love that it’s fitted like a structured cardigan so you can get away with wearing it from the plane and right into the city if you’re so inclined.
Fellow Carter Everywhere Mug
If your giftee is still traveling the world using disposable coffee cups, it’s time they’ve upgraded. The Fellow Carter Everywhere Travel Mug is a super chic reusable coffee cup that is particularly great for travel, as it has a leak-proof seal that prevents the cup from spilling everywhere when tossed into a carry-on. It also keeps beverages hot for up to 12 hours (and cold for up to 24), so travelers won’t have to deal with lukewarm coffee or water on even the longest travel days.
Vacation Luxury Shine Duo
You can’t go wrong with a selection of sun care products, especially if the traveler on your list tends to prefer warm-weather destinations. The Vacation Luxury Shine Duo offers a cheeky, oil-based take on sunscreen with high-quality ingredients and retro packaging that’ll keep beachgoers protected from the sun without actually smelling like sunscreen.
Babelio Mini Sound Machine
Light sleepers might struggle to fall asleep in a hotel, but the Babelio Mini Sound Machine makes it a whole lot easier. The tiny sound machine won’t take up any space in a carry-on, but the powerful white noise will be more than enough to lull your loved one to sleep, whether they’re in a noisy hostel or a too-quiet luxury suite.
lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag 1L
It’s called the Everywhere Belt Bag for a reason! This Lululemon staple has quickly become a cult classic for travelers (it has quite literally been everywhere this year). The adjustable belt bag is super convenient for everything from hiking to exploring cities hands-free, and the durable nylon material means you won’t have to worry about potential spillage or getting stuck in the rain (it’ll wipe clean with a bit of water).
Longchamp Le Pliage Filet Mesh Bag
Regular travelers know the importance of throwing a decent-sized tote into their luggage. After all, you never know when you’ll need the extra bit of space while on the road. The Longchamp Le Pliage Filet L Mesh Bag offers a sophisticated take on the humble mesh tote complete with a snap closure and both a top handle and shoulder strap for added versatility.
Conair Travel Garment Dual Voltage Steamer
The Conair Power Steam Handheld Travel Garment Steamer makes looking and feeling put together on the road a snap. The compact steamer is small enough to slip into a carry-on bag and pull out as needed while traveling. It boasts a 35-second heat-up time so the traveler in your life can power away wrinkles and creases in no time at all.
Sidney Sleep Mini Travel Size Neck Pillow
Sometimes you just need the comfort of your own pillow to get a good night’s sleep, and this mini travel pillow will do just the trick. The travel-sized memory foam pillow is great for using on planes or camping trips, and the compact size means it can easily slip into a bag for easy carrying when not in use. Consider adding a cozy travel blanket to complete the set.
YETI Roadie 24 Cooler
The Yeti Roadie 24 Hard Cooler will be well received by the road trip warriors and beach bums on your list. Not only is it super aesthetically pleasing, but it can also actually fit an incredible amount in such a compact space — we’re talking up to 33 cans, 26 pounds of ice, and even full-sized bottles of wine.
Loop Quiet Ear Plugs
You don’t quite realize how high-quality the Loop Quiet earplugs are until you really need them. The surprisingly stylish earplugs were designed to be comfortable while sleeping and will serve as a major blessing the next time your gift recipient has been put in a hotel room next to a crying baby or bachelorette party.
Native Union Universal Sling
The Native Union Universal Sling is designed to pop onto smartphones like a phone case — but it comes with a built-in strap that allows travelers to wear their phone like a crossbody bag or around their neck like a lanyard. It’s available in a variety of colorways and is made from recycled material for a more sustainable approach. It’s perfect for travel as it’s more secure than throwing a phone in a pocket or bag as well.
Hotel Lobby Candle City Collection Trio
Hotel Lobby Candle
There’s something inherently luxurious about slipping into a pair of hotel slippers upon check in — and the Four Seasons Velvet Slippers amplify that feeling and bring it home. These stunning slippers are made in Italy from cozy velvet and cotton with the Four Seasons logo embroidered on the top. The elastic back and rubber sole make them appropriate for both indoor and outdoor use.
Conscious Coconut Coconut Oil Travel Ready Tube
Conscious Coconut
Frequent flyers and dry skin just go together, unfortunately — which is why it’s so essential to have heavy moisturizer on hand at all times. The Conscious Coconut Coconut Oil Travel Ready Tube is pretty much the best way to carry around ultra-moisturizing coconut oil without getting it everywhere. It’s pure but packaged in a convenient tube that makes application much easier than that of your standard coconut oil jar.
Metáfora Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Portugalia Marketplace
If you’re shopping for a frequent flyer who doubles as an excellent home cook, you’ll want to consider Metáfora Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This high-quality olive oil is imported directly from Portugal and offers a surprisingly spicy flavor, which makes it great for cooking Mediterranean dishes or simply serving with fresh bread and cheeses.

Traveling with catheters for the first time can be intimidating. But with the right preparation, you can safely and confidently catheterize anywhere. In this guide, we’ll go over everything you need to know from choosing the best travel catheter to our top tips for a smooth trip.
What is a travel catheter?
Although travel catheter isn’t an official type of catheter, there are a variety of urinary catheters designed to make traveling easier. Ultimately, the best travel catheter is the one you feel most comfortable using and carrying around.
What is the best catheter for travel?
When you’re evaluating catheter options for travel, you might want to consider the following features, as they make some catheters more ideal for travel than others.
The term “pocket catheter” or compact catheters are intermittent catheters that are small and discreet. Traditional catheters are typically found in long, straight packages which makes them difficult to pack. Pocket catheters on the other hand are curved, coiled, or packaged in a way that makes them easier to pack, as they take up less space. Additionally, compact catheters can prevent the risk of damaging or acquiring kinks while being transported.
For women, female catheters are also great travel catheters as they are only 6-8 inches long, making them naturally more compact than a full-length catheter which is 16 inches long.
2. Lubrication
Catheters can be non-lubricated, pre-lubricated (coated with a lubrication), or hydrophilic coated. Uncoated catheters are not that recommended for travel as they require additional lubricant which adds another step to your self-cathing routine. For some, hydrophilic coated catheters can also be difficult to travel with as they contain a liquid solution making them bulkier and messier.
Pre-lubricated catheters can make traveling easier because they eliminate the need for additional lubricants, and their lubrication doesn’t drip. This also decreases the risk of infection as they require less additional handling and reduces the number of supplies you need to carry with you while traveling.
3. Closed system
Closed system catheters consist of a pre-lubricated catheter enclosed within its own collection bag. Most closed system catheters also come with an introducer tip, which protects the catheter from bacteria that frequently cause UTIs. Additionally, many closed system catheter kits are available that come pre-packaged with additional supplies like gloves, swabs, and a privacy cloth.
This type of catheter is ideal because its application method allows you to never have to touch the catheter itself, decreasing the risk of infection. It also provides an already fitted collection bag which makes it preferred by many wheelchair users and others who drain into a collection bag rather than directly into a toilet. On the flip side, closed system catheters are much bigger and bulkier, so if you feel like you can travel without all the additional supplies, you might opt for leaner options.
Is there an alternative to traveling with intermittent catheters?
If you’re looking for an alternative to intermittent catheters, some travelers opt for an indwelling catheter, also known as a foley catheter. They eliminate the need to constantly self-catheterize and can be left in your body for days and even weeks at a time.
Indwelling catheters are either fitted with a valve that can be opened and closed when needed or are connected to a drainage bag at all times. Many users wear a leg bag that attaches to your leg and can be concealed under your clothes. Consult with your doctor for more information on this option.
However, if you choose to stick to intermittent catheters, it’s important to make sure you’re properly prepared with the right supplies and information. Below you can find our list of travel tips to consider before your trip, while in transit, and once you reach your destination.
Before You Travel
The best way to reduce the stress of traveling with catheters is to plan ahead. By preparing the right information and supplies well before your trip, you’ll reduce the risk of anything going wrong.
1. Keep important information handy
Having the right information on hand will help you know exactly who to call with any questions and avoid any unnecessary complications on your trip.
- Your doctor’s contact information
Make sure to have your doctor’s contact information on hand in case you need to contact them at any point during your trip. Travel Certificate (Medical Validation Certificate
Travel Certificates can be obtained from your catheter provider and explain in different languages why you’re carrying catheters. It also includes a section requesting any staff to be discreet when handling your catheters.
Although you are permitted to travel with catheters, a Travel Certificate and/or Medical Note can help avoid excessive questioning or problems from customs officers or the TSA Doctor’s Note
When flying, TSA regulations state that all liquids must be 3.4 oz or less and fit in one clear quart-size plastic bag. If you use hydrophilic catheters or you need lubricant that exceeds these limits, a medical note from your doctor may allow you to bypass these restrictions by qualifying them as medical supplies./p> Medical contacts at your destination
Talk to your healthcare provider to identify a hospital or clinic at your destination that you can visit in case of an emergency. Catheter supplier at your destination
For longer trips, it can be helpful to get supplies at your destination so you can limit the number of supplies you have to carry with you. Talk to your supplier to see if they’re able to ship to your new destination or if they can help you identify a new source to buy from while you’re traveling.
2. Build your travel catheter kit
The most important thing to remember when traveling with catheters is to stay clean. Catheterizing in public places increases the risk of infections and other complications so it’s important to be prepared with enough catheters and supplies to help you remain clean wherever you are.
Suggested catheter supplies to pack in your travel kit:
- Catheters – multiply your daily usage by the number of days you’re traveling for + a few extra days
- Antibacterial wipes
- Hand sanitizer
- Plastic bags (for easy disposal)
- Lubrication (if your catheters aren’t pre-lubricated)
- Handheld mirror (for women if you’re new to cathing and are still learning the ropes)
- Extra underwear
- Pads (consider using pads for extra protection even if you don’t typically wear them)
- Collection/drainage/urine bag(if you use one)
- + any additional supplies you like to have
Your travel catheter kit should be easily accessible for trips to the restroom and packed with enough catheters and supplies to get you to your next destination. With your additional supplies, try and pack as many as possible into your carry-on bag in case your checked luggage is lost or delayed.
If you’re taking a longer trip and need to pack supplies in your checked luggage, consider getting travel insurance to protect against lost or damaged catheters.
3. Bring extras
You never want to run out of catheters or worry about not having enough while you’re traveling. We recommend bringing 2-3 days worth of extra catheters and supplies on your trip.
4. Phone ahead to your accommodation
Make sure the place you are staying at has a restroom that is easily accessible to you. If you have any additional needs make sure they are able to accommodate those as well.
5. Know where the restrooms are located
Knowing where the restrooms are located will help you plan your self-catheterizing schedule accordingly and help alleviate the stress of finding a bathroom.
6. If you’re flying, contact your airline and the TSA in advance
Contact your airline 72 hours in advance to learn of any specific guidelines for traveling with catheters and any other medical devices. They may also have useful information on how to make your trip smoother. Additionally, it may be possible to request an aisle seat that is closer to the airplane bathroom.
If you want to feel extra reassured, contact TSA before you travel to inform them of your situation. They will provide you with more information on the screening process and how to best get through the security check. It’s also important to keep in mind that you have the right to request a private TSA screening if you prefer.
While You Travel
1. stay hydrated.
While you may be tempted to drink less to avoid needing to self-catheterize, it’s important to stay hydrated to prevent complications. Traveling, especially flying, can be dehydrating so it’s important to make sure you’re consuming enough fluids throughout your trip.
2. Be aware of how temperature affects your products
Although catheters are best stored at room temperature, most catheters are safe to use even after experiencing extreme temperatures for up to 24 hours.
When using catheters that aren’t at room temperature, you may notice a change in how your catheters feel. Catheters stored at warmer temperatures may be more flexible than normal, and those at cooler temperatures tend to be stiffer. If your catheter is too stiff, warming it up with your hands or body can be helpful.
At Your Destination
1. note the time difference.
Remember that your body will take time to adjust to a new time zone and you may initially need to catheterize according to your schedule back at home.
2. Know the water quality
If you are traveling to a place with poor tap water quality, make sure you find safe drinking water so you’re able to stay hydrated.
3. Notice how a change in diet may affect your body
If you’re eating foods that you don’t typically eat at home, your body may react differently and you might need to alter your self-catheterizing schedule.
Find the Right Travel Catheter for You
The best travel catheter for you will depend on your personal preferences, mode of transportation, and destination. Talk to your medical supplier and doctor, do your research ahead of time, and make sure you have enough supplies for your trip. Once you’re prepared with the right information, you’ll be able to confidently travel wherever you choose. Make sure you start your research a few weeks before your trip so that you’ll have enough time to try different options and to modify your next catheter order to include your travel catheter of choice.
If you’re looking to try out a different type of catheter, Better Health carries a selection of intermittent and external catheters that are reimbursable through insurance. Take our product selection quiz to find your best catheter or request free samples through our website.

Highly Sensitive Person Travel Survival Kit
by Kelly | Coping , Humor , Travel | 3 comments
I enjoy traveling, but it isn’t without its challenges as an HSP. Here are a list of the essentials (and, well, not-so-essentials) that will help make your trip much more comfortable and enjoyable.
Sleep Mask: Block out any offending light sources when you are trying to get some precious sleep. Recommended : Bucky 40 Blinks Ultralight Sleep Mask . The Rolls Royce of eyeshades, its contoured cups conform to fit comfortably on most faces and it doesn’t put pressure on the eyes, allowing the wearer to blink freely in the delicious darkness.
Travel fan: Remember that 5-hour bus in 90 degree weather with no air conditioning, no open windows, and no air movement whatsoever? I do. Or how about the overnight train where the air was so stifling you felt like you couldn’t breathe ? I still have nightmares about it. And I wish I had one of these little guys with me. Recommended : Travelon 3-Speed Folding Fan . This battery-operated fan can be hung around the user’s neck or placed on a table or flat surface. It’s great for travel in hot countries without A/C. (See my HSP travel tips here.)
Good Sunglasses: Get a good pair with 98-100% UV protection. Those without UV protection will relax your pupils, letting damaging radiation hit your retina. Consider the wrap-around kind that cover more of your face. I like Sunclouds as they are polarized, inexpensive, yet nice-looking shades.
A hat: It’s freaking bright outside, and you don’t want skin cancer, do you?
Neck cooler: This ridiculous looking thing should only be used in dire situations when you don’t care if you look like a dork (which is all the time, for me). Soak it in water overnight, and the next morning, you’ve got a squishy neck ornament that stays cool all day. It feels kind of amazing when you are climbing into Egyptian tombs or exploring Angkor Wat. Recommended : Neck cooling “Kafka Tie” from REI . (Or, make your own , or buy on Amazon .)
Once you’ve got the highly sensitive person travel survival kit, you will be stylin’ in comfort!

So awesome!! When I saw these photos, I just laughed out loud. I’ve been using these things since college–my best friend used to say it looked like I was going into battle every time I went to take a nap…! I thought I was the only one who did this kind of stuff! Thanks for the great blog.
My daughter and I are both HSP. We both travel with our pillows. We pack our tempurpedic pillows in our suitcases and our feather pillows in carryon backpacks. Neither of us can sleep well without the right pillows. For my 21 year old daughter, sleeping in any bed other than her own is a serious challenge, so having the right pillows and her own pillowcases at least helps with that.
I know it may sound crazy to a lot of people, but for other HSPs who have trouble sleeping while on vacation, if you haven’t thought of it, next time, leave extra room for your pillows 🙂
Hi Kathy, your comment comes at such an appropriate time! I just returned for a vacation in Mexico and had some of those thoughts. Having an uncomfortable bed seems like nothing to some people, but is anxiety-producing to others. The last two days on our trip, I had to share a super small bed with my husband and felt like I couldn’t move an inch all night…I couldn’t want to get out of that room! Thanks for your comment. 🙂

For a large and in charge setup that holds a wide range of bar tools, glasses, and up to three bottles, we recommend the Legacy by Picnic Time Hamilton Portable Cocktail Bar . If you're in charge of tending bar on an upcoming camping trip, the Sky Fish Cocktail Travel Set will transport your supplies from A to B.
What to Look for in a Travel Bar Set
A well-stocked travel bar should contain everything you need to make your favorite drink. Maybe that’s as simple as a bar spoon, shaker, and jigger. If you’re looking to seriously entertain on the go, opt for a travel bar packed with everything from Hawthorne strainers to corkscrews to olive spears.
“I suggest purchasing a bar tool bag that has slits that fit most tools, including strainers, jiggers, bar spoons and shaker tins,” says Ashly Levi , bartender and mezcalier at Miss Agave. “If you don’t have one available, you can store the jigger, smaller bar spoons, bottle openers and julep strainers inside the tins to keep it all together."
Portability
Consider how portable your travel bar is. Working bartenders may want a roll-up bag, so they can tote their tools from home to shift (this is also a great option if you’re headed to a hotel or party where all your bar tools will be needed). Boxed options are great for train travel or picnics and do a great job of protecting the contents, but they can be cumbersome to carry.
Bottle Storage
Some travel bars are outfitted to carry just a small flask, while others have the capacity to store up to three or four of your favorite bottles. Pick a travel bar accordingly. If you simply want to sip a dram on the go out of decent glassware, the former type of travel bar will suffice. If you’re looking to craft Negronis, martinis, or other cocktails, consider a travel bar with a capacity that can hold all your ingredients.
What is included in a travel bar set?
A travel bar will include all the tools you need to craft cocktails on the go. Depending on the size of the bar, that can include a shaker and jigger or a full spate of bar tools. Often the travel bar set have space for bottles, too.
How portable is a travel bar set?
Travel bar sets are designed to be toted around. Some will be like small, hardshell suitcases complete with handles and locks. Some come in the form of a backpack, while others are rolled up and can be carried around like a briefcase.
Why use a travel bar set?
Travel bar sets are excellent in a range of situations; bring one on a picnic, take it on your next vacation, or pack it for your next backyard drinks. These tiny bars also double as an excellent option for those living in small spaces and don’t have room for a full setup.
How do you clean a travel bar set?
"To keep your bar tools clean, simply rinsing and washing with warm water and a bit of Dawn soap can do the trick when you’re on the go,” says Levi. “You can bring this in a travel-size container. The key is to dry it all really well using a microfiber towel, which is easy to keep on you when traveling.”
Some of the other experts we consulted get extra points for the unique methods they employ to keep their bar tools sparkly, such as Ervin Machado , Certified Sommelier and Beverage Director at Big Time Restaurant Group. "I use soap and water to clean my tools on the go," he says, "but I always polish them with vodka for extra shine."
Kate Dingwall is a sommelier and spirits writer. She has been writing about the bar and spirits world for five years and has her BarSmarts and WSET certification. She loves a good martini—wherever she may be.
This roundup was updated by Amanda Lauren , an experienced lifestyle writer who loves a good cocktail no matter where she is. She prefers bourbon to vodka.

American Airlines is preparing for summer travel with new premium onboard amenities — take a look
- American Airlines is launching its first rotating collection of premium amenities Memorial Day Weekend.
- It includes a new front-row flagship suite, new bedding, and enhanced dining options.
- The new amenity kit program will cycle skincare products and offer limited-edition specialty kits.
American Airlines is gearing up for summer travel with new luxury in-flight offerings for its customers.
American is launching its first rotating collection of premium onboard amenities over Memorial Day Weekend. It will be available on 300 international and transcontinental flights.
The offerings include new bedding, dining options, and an amenity kit program that lets premium passengers sample different skincare brands and products.
"We thoughtfully curate each element of the onboard experience so every customer can look forward to the time they spend in flight," American's vice president of customer experience, Kim Cisek, said in a statement. "Part of the magic of travel is connecting our customers to the people and experiences that matter most to them."
While most of the new amenities are being offered to premium cabins, main cabin passengers will also have access to new bedding and other seat enhancements.
Passengers in the main cabin will have access to 4K seatback screens, Bluetooth connectivity, and new charging ports. All customers will have access to 1,500 free entertainment content options and can use high-speed WiFi.
Passengers can kick back in the flagship suites with new privacy doors and chaise lounge positions.
Customers traveling in American's flagship suite seat will have access to wireless charging, Bluetooth capability, and multiple storage spaces.
Passengers traveling in premium economy can also enjoy new amenities like wireless charging, additional storage space, and privacy headrest wings.
Customers looking for more luxury can sit front row on the new Boeing 787-9 and 777-300 aircraft's flagship suite preferred seat.
The new seat offers customers additional space and storage. It will offer additional amenities for passengers' comfort, like a Nest Bedding mattress pad, a throw blanket, and a memory foam lumbar pillow.
The seat will also have Nest Bedding pajamas and an exclusive amenity kit featuring additional skincare products.
American used customer research to enhance its bedding in all cabins.
American decided to offer dual-sided pillows to flagship first and business class after research indicated 75% of its customers preferred different materials on each side of their pillows. The new pillow will have cool touch fabric on one side and traditional fabric on the other.
Travelers in flagship business class can now enjoy slippers onboard.
The slippers used to only be offered on ultra-long-haul flights.
Customers in all cabins will enjoy enhanced bedding, with cabin-specific offerings like lumbar pillows, throw blankets, premium duvets, and fleece blankets.
American says the new bedding packaging will save 25 tons of plastic waste a year.
American collaborated with inflight textile company John Horsfall to create bedding from recycled materials. Nearly all the pillows, duvets, and blankets were made with recycled fibers, and filled bedding will be 100% recycled.
Customers traveling in premium cabins will also receive their bedding in a reusable zipper bag made with recycled fibers to reduce plastic waste from distribution.
International business class passengers can try out new flavors inspired by international cuisine and American Airlines destinations worldwide.
American is offering new menu offerings to business class passengers on international US inbound and outbound flights.
Some of the meals include macadamia-crusted sea bass with citrus cream sauce, quinoa, toasted orzo, and haricot verts.
American is also offering enhanced dining options to domestic travelers in first class.
Customers can also choose from new preorder options.
Preorder options will continue to roll out this spring for business class on flights from the US to international destinations.
Business class, premium economy, and first class passengers can pre-order all of the meals offered to their cabins. The main cabin doesn't have pre-ordering available but passengers receive a complimentary in-flight snack and beverage. They can also purchase food through the buy-on-board program.
Passengers in premium cabins will also have access to the new amenity kit program.
American's amenity kit includes basic comfort amenities like a toothbrush, dental kit, eye mask, and earplugs. The kit will also cycle different skincare products and offerings in premium cabins.
American collaborated with beauty retailer Thirteen Lune to curate skincare offerings in the amenity kit.
The kit will feature high-quality beauty brands from Thirteen Lune's tailored collection. Passengers can scan a QR code in the kit to learn about each brand and partner featured.
Customers will receive the Thirteen Lune kit for the first few weeks of the kickoff to the new program.
