The engaging guide leading this skip-the-line tour brought us straight to the highlights, starting with the Pinecone Courtyard and ending in St. Peter’s Basilica , where she showed us Michelangelo’s Pietà and explained why it’s the only work the artist actually signed.

There's a lot of reasons to sign up for this tour through greater Rome, not least is that you get to drive yourself with the top down in a vintage Fiat 500. Another nice perk: Rome's traffic is seriously easier to deal with when traveling in convoy (the group can have up to 50 cars in it). And, as you will get your own car to drive, it can feel like a private tour, although groups are also organized by language, so communication shouldn't be a problem for anyone.  But most importantly, you just look so much better behind the wheel of a classic Italian car.

Can i enter the inside of the colosseum.

You will need to purchase a ticket. Something many visitors are not aware of is that the Standard ticket only covers access to the standing tiers of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. You will need to purchase special tickets to gain more access to other parts of the Colosseum.

Is entry free?

Yes, it is available for free entry on the 1st Sunday of every month. Disabled visitors have free entry along with their EU guide.

What Is your recommendation of seeing the Colosseum the best way?

We strongly suggest that you book in advance as lines to enter the Colosseum can be very long, and in summer, it can get very hot and humid. As there is much to discover at the Colosseum, a Rome Colosseum Guided Tour would be the best option.

Is entry to the Roman Forum free?

The Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and the Colosseum now all form part of the standard ticket. The Roman Forum is part of your guided tour if you have selected a guided tour option.

Without a guide – 1 hour aproximatively. With a guide – 1.5-3 hours depending on the tour you select. Yes, you are allowed to freely roam the Colosseum and soak in the beauty of the ancient ruins.

What are the best Colosseum visiting times?

To avoid the crowds and long waiting lines, it is suggested to enter the Colosseum as soon as it opens at 08.30 or an hour before the last entry. If possible, plan your trip mid-week to avoid the weekend crowds. November to February is considered low season, so it may be a good idea to plan your trip at the Colosseum at that time.

Am I allowed to bring a filled bottle of water into the Colosseum?

Only empty bottles are allowed in the Colosseum. There are many fountains located in the complex, and so you can fill your bottles once you have entered.

Jeff Bezos recently played tour guide for a look inside Blue Origin's factory and the space company's latest rocket, New Glenn.

The billionaire gave YouTuber Tim Dodd, known by his channel moniker "Everyday Astronaut," a tour of the rocket's production facility in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Standing at over 320 feet tall, New Glenn is one of the largest rockets ever built, according to Blue Origin's website . Only three other rockets have been built taller: SpaceX's Starship , Saturn V, and the Russian N-1, which never successfully launched.

"The scale of things in person is always surprising," Bezos said. "The first time you see a flight article or development article, it's always surprising."

The factory tour was also an opportunity for Bezos to show off his nerdy side. The Amazon cofounder talked excitedly about the intricacies of the technology powering New Glenn.

The rocket, which is set to fly for the first time later this year , is a partially reusable heavy-lift launch vehicle designed to lift 45 metric tons to low-Earth orbit. By comparison, SpaceX's Falcon Heavy, which powers Starship, can lift nearly 64 metric tons to orbit and is also partially reusable.

Bezos showed off New Glenn's Stage One, which is powered by seven BE-4 engines — powerful liquid oxygen and liquefied natural gas-fueled combustion engines. He also explained the welding process of the tanks.

"This is a very high-performance way to build the tank," he said. "And especially because it's a reusable vehicle, you get to reuse all that high-performance."

New Glenn is a two-stage rocket — following its launch, Stage One will separate from the Second Stage and autonomously descend back into a landing platform to be reused. Two BE-3U engines will then propel the Second Stage into space to deliver its payload.

Bezos said the vehicle is designed to be turned around in 16 days and last for a minimum of 25 missions.

"I'm hoping it will eventually be much more," Bezos said. "We'd like to get to at least a hundred."

Bezos also talked about his past salvage mission in the Atlantic to recover Project Apollo's Saturn V engines, which powered the Apollo 11 to the moon.

"I was sitting in my living room one day and I said, 'You know, I wonder if you could find those F1 engines from Apollo 11 sitting on the bottom of the Atlantic somewhere,'" Bezos said. "And I went to Google and I typed in Apollo 11 booster impact coordinates. And they popped up."

"And so I thought, this is gonna be the easiest thing I've ever done, I'm gonna go recover those engines. Of course, that was the only part of it that was easy. It turned out to be incredibly hard."

And reusability leads to affordability, which is Bezo's main goal. He said that although manufacturing techniques have been massively improved, most major aspects of rocketry were invented in the 1960s.

"They haven't really changed, so our job today is not to do better than they did at spaceflight. It's to make it more affordable," he said.

Bezos explained the company developed a reusable thermal protection system that doesn't need to be touched up, another aspect of the rocket's operable reusability.

Viewers were also able to see the rocket's hydrogen-powered Upper Stage and its Aft Section, where the seven BE-4 engines are mounted in the base. Bezos additionally took Dodd to its forward section, which has four fins that are the "largest hydraulic actuators on a space aero surface" ever.

"A good aerospace hardware does look like art because you're just going for function," Bezos said. "But there's something when you go for that last 1% of function, it really makes things beautiful."

Bezos wasn't the first billionaire that YouTuber Tim Dodd landed a factory tour with — he's also interviewed Elon Musk multiple times, recently touring SpaceX's new "Starfactory" where its Starship rocket is made.

Hunter Biden asked State Department for help with Ukrainian company: report

WASHINGTON (TND) — President Joe Biden's son reportedly went to the U.S. government for help with "a potentially lucrative energy project" while his father served as vice president under former President Barack Obama.

Citing newly released records "the Biden administration had withheld for years," The New York Times on Tuesday reported Hunter Biden in 2016 wrote at least one letter to the U.S. ambassador to Italy "seeking assistance for the Ukrainian gas company Burisma, where he was a board member."

The media outlet noted embassy officials appeared to be bothered by the request, with a Commerce Department official based in the U.S. Embassy in Rome responding, “I want to be careful about promising too much."

Biden's lawyers, meanwhile, have said prosecutors are inappropriately trying to insert "politically-charged" allegations about his foreign business dealings into the upcoming federal tax trial against the president's son.

Special counsel David Weiss' team told the judge last week they plan to call to the witness stand a business associate of Hunter Biden's to testify about an arrangement with a Romanian businessman who was trying to “influence U.S. government policy” during Joe Biden’s term as vice president.

Hunter Biden's lawyers responded in court papers filed Sunday that such matters are irrelevant in the case headed for trial next month in Los Angeles over at least $1.4 million in taxes he owed between 2016 and 2019.

Furthermore, defense lawyers allowing such testimony would confuse jurors, and slammed prosecutors for showcasing “these matters on the eve of Mr. Biden’s trial -- when there is no mention of political influence in the 56-page Indictment.”

Archaeologists in Spain have discovered a possible hidden Roman Empire from over 2,000 years ago.

A team of researchers from the University of Cádiz started exploring an area of the Sierra de Cádiz region last year hoping to just find a few remnants of ancient life there.

Instead, they were stunned to come across 57 Roman Empire-era sites — which they believe could all be connected, based on trade and communication routes, according to the Independent.

Now, they are looking more closely at how the sites are linked, which is the first time ancient Roman settlements there have been thoroughly analyzed.

“The objective is to know the interaction of the Bay of Cadiz with the settlement of the Guadalete River depression during the Roman period, an aspect practically unknown until now,’ the researchers said in a report.

The settlements, which are in areas around Arcos de la Frontera, Bornos, Villamartin and Puerto Serrano, would have all been interconnected by the Guadalete River in the Spanish province of Cádiz, which leads researchers to believe they were part of a hidden empire, the Independent noted.

The Romans settled around the Guadalete River after they conquered Spain in 264 BC.

Hunter Biden Sought State Department Help for Ukrainian Company

After President Biden dropped his re-election bid, his administration released records showing that while he was vice president, his son solicited U.S. government assistance.

Hunter Biden sought assistance from the U.S. government for a potentially lucrative energy project in Italy while his father was vice president, according to newly released records and interviews.

The records, which the Biden administration had withheld for years, indicate that Hunter Biden wrote at least one letter to the U.S. ambassador to Italy in 2016 seeking assistance for the Ukrainian gas company Burisma, where he was a board member.

Embassy officials appear to have been uneasy with the request from the son of the sitting vice president on behalf of a foreign company.

“I want to be careful about promising too much,” wrote a Commerce Department official based in the U.S. Embassy in Rome who was tasked with responding.

“This is a Ukrainian company and, purely to protect ourselves, U.S.G. should not be actively advocating with the government of Italy without the company going through the D.O.C. Advocacy Center,” the official wrote. Those acronyms refer to the United States government and a Department of Commerce program that supports American companies that seek business with foreign governments.

Abbe Lowell, a lawyer for Mr. Biden, said his client “asked various people,” including the U.S. ambassador to Italy at the time, John R. Phillips, whether they could arrange an introduction between Burisma and the president of the Tuscany region of Italy, where Burisma was pursuing a geothermal project.

“No meeting occurred, no project materialized, no request for anything in the U.S. was ever sought and only an introduction in Italy was requested,” Mr. Lowell said in a statement, calling the outreach by Mr. Biden a “proper request.”

The State Department did not release the actual text of the letter.

A White House spokesman said the president was not aware when he was vice president that his son was reaching out to the U.S. Embassy in Italy on behalf of Burisma.

The department’s release of documents to The New York Times came shortly after President Biden dropped out of the presidential race, and as his son prepares to stand trial next month on charges of evading taxes on millions of dollars in income from Burisma and other foreign businesses.

Hunter Biden has not been charged with violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act, or FARA, which requires people to disclose when they lobby the U.S. government on behalf of foreign interests.

In a court filing last week , in what was perceived as a pressure move, prosecutors indicated that they did not intend to add a FARA charge, but noted that they had evidence that Mr. Biden had reached out to the State Department on behalf of a different foreign client, a real estate magnate facing corruption charges in Romania. Mr. Biden did not register under FARA as a lobbyist for the Romanian developer or Burisma.

His outreach to the U.S. Embassy in Rome on behalf of Burisma, which has not been previously reported, echoes other episodes for which he has been criticized for implicitly leveraging his father’s political clout to try to advance his foreign business.

The embassy outreach was revealed in emails released by the State Department to The Times in response to a request for public records from officials at the U.S. Embassy in Romania related to efforts by Mr. Biden and other Americans to assist the real estate developer . One of the officials named in the request had worked for the State Department in Italy before being assigned to the embassy in Romania.

The request was initially filed under the Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA, in June 2021. After nearly eight months, the State Department had not released any records, and The Times sued. About 18 months later, the department moved to close the case after releasing thousands of pages of records — none of which shed light on Hunter Biden’s outreach to the U.S. government.

The Times challenged the thoroughness of the search, noting that the department had failed to produce responsive records contained in a cache of files connected to a laptop that Mr. Biden had abandoned at a Delaware repair shop. The department resumed the search and periodic productions, but had produced few documents related to Mr. Biden until the week after his father ended his re-election campaign and endorsed Vice President Harris for the Democratic nomination.

A State Department spokeswoman suggested that the timing was coincidental, noting that the department had released batches of documents in each of the last three months, before the tranche revealing Mr. Biden’s outreach to the U.S. Embassy in Rome.

A person familiar with the timing said the release of the Italy documents was planned by the State Department weeks before the president announced his decision and was cleared by the White House the week before Mr. Biden decided to drop out.

The State Department is notoriously slow when it comes to releasing public records. Its backlog of nearly 19,000 FOIA requests — some of which date back many years — at the end of fiscal year 2022 was the third largest in the federal government, according to a report issued by the Government Accountability Office this year.

The department’s productions are overseen by a growing team of career public servants , not political appointees. All of that makes it unlikely that the department could have timed the release of potentially damaging records to President Biden’s decision to drop out of the race, since that news was closely held until the last minute.

Still, the records are likely to fuel suspicion among Republicans, who had spent years spotlighting the younger Mr. Biden’s foreign business as a blotch on his father’s political career. They claimed validation when prosecutors hinted at Hunter Biden’s exposure last week.

“This is, I think, the biggest political corruption scandal in our history’s lifetime,” Representative James R. Comer, a Kentucky Republican and the chairman of the Oversight and Accountability Committee, said on Newsmax last week after the prosecutors’ filing about Mr. Biden’s outreach for his Romanian client.

While Mr. Comer’s committee had released a number of reports chronicling Hunter Biden’s work for foreign companies, it did not produce any evidence related to his outreach to the U.S. Embassy in Italy.

A Burisma official did not respond to a request for comment.

A businessman involved in the project said the outreach was undertaken at the request of Burisma when the company or its partners were having trouble securing regulatory approval for a geothermal energy project in Tuscany.

The difficulty is reflected in emails, found in Mr. Biden’s laptop cache, from one of his associates to an Italian businessman who claimed to have ties to Enrico Rossi, the president of the Tuscany regional government at the time.

“Burisma is hoping that some of its executives can get a meeting with the president to discuss their geothermal business in Tuscany,” Eric Schwerin, a longtime business partner of Hunter Biden’s, wrote in an email to the Italian businessman in July 2016, attaching a letter that Mr. Biden wrote to Mr. Rossi. Around the same time, Mr. Biden was asking Mr. Phillips, the U.S. ambassador, to reach out to Mr. Rossi, according to the State Department records and interviews.

“The Ambassador already replied to one letter from Mr. Biden,” the Commerce Department official wrote in an email to other U.S. government officials. “He may be shopping for more support than he got here,” the official added.

Mr. Rossi said in an interview that he never met with Mr. Biden. He did not recall the U.S. Embassy reaching out to him about the project.

While Mr. Biden’s letter to the ambassador is referred to in the correspondence, The Times was unable to review its contents because the State Department appears to have redacted it in its entirety. The department cited exemptions allowing the withholding of records that would compromise individual privacy, attorney client privilege or the government’s deliberative process.

In an interview, Mr. Phillips said he did not remember Mr. Biden writing to him about Burisma, but he said he received a lot of letters.

If Mr. Biden had written him, “I certainly would pay attention to it,” he said. “Out of courtesy, I’d probably make sure he got a response of some sort, but not necessarily from me. And I wouldn’t even want to encourage it, because I wouldn’t get us involved in something like that.”

He said that he tried to avoid fueling the perception that connected people got special treatment.

Tuscany is known for its access to geothermal power, creating brisk competition for companies seeking to enter the space.

It is not clear whether the U.S. Embassy went to bat for Burisma. The project fizzled before it ever began drilling in Tuscany, according to the person involved in the effort.
