How Many Days Will It Take to Change Visit Visa To Employment Visa In UAE?
Written By Arabiers Digital & Reviewed by Robeena Brown
06-July-2024 | 12
If you aspire to travel to the UAE to find a job or you already get a UAE visit visa and want to switch it to an employment visa, you will need to know the time taken to change the visa. This will help you avoid paying a fine when you overstay your visa. It takes 7 to 14 days to change a visit visa to an employment visa. You don't have to finish the whole changing process to avoid penalties; you only need to get your visa to change your status.
Table of Contents
What is visa change status, how much overstaying fine, employment visa delaying reason.
Change status is the process that allows you to change your visit visa to an employment visa in the UAE. You will successfully evade the overstaying fines if you complete the steps to change your status.
Step-by-Step Process of Changing to an Employment Visa
Below is the process of changing a visit visa to an employment visa:
- 01 First, get the offer letter from the prospective employer
- 02 Confirm that you have accepted the offer to your employer and sign the offer letter within one day
- 03 After that, your employer will apply for a quota & labor contract for you to work in the UAE. You and the employer are required to sign the labor contract once it has been approved. This will take 2 to three working days.
- 04 Next, your employer will apply for your residence entry permit, which will take one day.
- 05 Change status in one day
- 06 Get a medical assessment which takes two days and a day for VIPs
- 07 After that, biometrics will be taken, and your Emirates ID, which will take 2 to 3 working days
If you have found a job, your employer will apply for your residence visa on your behalf and see it through to completion.
You will need to undergo the required medical tests and security checks for your visa to be approved.
According to the new visa reforms 2023, you will be fined 1 100 INR each day if you haven’t changed your visa status before your visit visa expiry.
Individuals who overstay their visas in the UAE will be charged a penalty. You must be aware of the potential fines and learn how to check if you owe any overstay fines . After your UAE visa expires and you exhaust your grace period, you must pay the overstay fine according to the number of days accumulated.
On top of the overstay fine, you will need to obtain a Dubai/UAE out pass, which costs up to 6 800 INR. The out pass is basically an exit permit that allows holders to leave the UAE. This new rule is in accordance with the latest announcement.
When switching from a visit visa to an employment visa in the UAE, it can sometimes take several days. If the company where you got the job offer cites any of the reasons below, you should immediately opt to extend your UAE visit visa.
- Quota issues: The Labour department assigns a specific number of quotas to each company based on the size of the business, business type, and the professions available. If your employers don't have a specific quota to hire, it may take longer than expected, and they should request the Labour department.
- National Holidays: the UAE has few national holidays compared to other countries. If your employment visa application falls on a national holiday such as the Eid holidays or any other major holiday, you may lose days as government offices will be closed.
- Ramadan: visa processing during Ramadan is usually slow and can take even four working days to get approved or rejected. Working hours during Ramadan are reduced in both the public and private sectors. System issues may also cause delays during this time. Ordinarily, a visit visa takes no more than two working days to be issued.
- Incomplete PRO or Typing Center: at times, your employer PRO or the typing center handling your employment visa is unable to move things along quickly. As a result, most visitors end up incurring lots of fines. If you sense this issue, you might want to consider extending your visa.

Forgot to pick up your Emirates ID from Emirates Post? Here are the steps you should follow.
Living in uae.
How many days do you have to pick up your ID? Make sure it doesn’t get returned
Dubai: If you have just applied for a new Emirates ID, you may be required to pick up your card from an Emirates Post office near you. But what happens if you fail to pick it up in due time?
Here are all the details.
Get exclusive content with Gulf News WhatsApp channel
How will I know when I need to pick up my ID?
Emirates IDs are issued by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) to citizens and residents, and are used as a primary source of identification of your legal residence in the country. When you apply for a residence visa, you also need to apply for your Emirates ID. At the time of application, you will get the option to choose whether you want to get the ID delivered to you, through the Zajel courier service, or pick it up from a nearby Emirates Post office. If you choose the second option, you will also need to mention your location, so that the ID is delivered to the nearest post office.
After you make the payment for the card, the application will be processed by ICP and once approved, the card will be printed.
“Once the card is printed, the ICP sends it to Emirates Post for delivery. The Emirates Post subsequently sends a text message informing the customer about it and requesting the customer to collect the card at the post office specified in the application form,” the ICP website – icp.gov.ae, states.
When you receive the SMS from Emirates Post, it will contain the following details:
• Informing you if your card is ready for collection. • Name of the Emirates Post office branch and a link to the location. • Documents you need to carry – a valid ID and ICP receipt from your Emirates ID application.

90 days to collect
Once you receive the SMS, you will have 90 days to collect the ID, according to the ICP. When visiting the centre, you need to make sure that you keep the receipt of the payment you made for the ID application, as well as a valid ID, like your passport or driving licence.
But what happens if you fail to collect the ID within the stipulated time of 90 days?
The ICP website states: “If the customer does not collect the card within 90 days, Emirates Post returns it to the Authority, which in turn destroys the card. In this situation the customer should apply for a replacement card by paying the required fee.”
How to apply for an Emirates ID replacement
If you do find yourself in such a situation, you can apply for a replacement for your Emirates ID online, through the ICP website – icp.gov.ae. Click here to read a step-by-step guide on the process.

The Best Time to Visit Greece
A version of this article originally appeared in Condé Nast Traveller India .
The best time to visit Greece is any time you can make it to Greece, naturally. Dotted with stunning islands surrounded by the sparkling waters of the Aegean, Mediterranean, and Ionian Seas, Greece has so much to offer within and beyond its most popular attractions. The best time to travel to Greece depends on what you seek: formidable historic sites that have stood the test of time, islands buzzing with exciting beach clubs, or quiet beaches and cool weather. If you’re planning a trip soon, here’s a handy guide on the best time to visit Greece.
Jump to: When is the best time to visit Greece? Temperatures throughout the year When is the off season in Greece? How many days are enough for a trip to Greece? Do Americans need a visa for Greece? Plan your stay
When is the best time to visit Greece?
Like most European countries, the best time to visit Greece is considered to be the summer season, which lasts from June to September. This is when tourism is at its peak in the country. There’s a lot of sunshine and little to no rain, which means you can spend a lot of time outdoors. However, recent summer heatwaves in Europe have led to the mercury touching over 110°F in Greece; in July 2023, the Acropolis was shut in the afternoons and air-conditioned public spaces were opened for people.
The summer season, which lasts from June to September, is when tourism peaks in Greece.
For fewer tourist crowds, the best time to visit Greece is in its shoulder season, during spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October). In spring, sea temperatures are still slightly lower, so expect chillier weather but pleasant conditions to spend days outdoors. In autumn, temperatures begin to fall in October and many Greek islands begin seeing fewer and fewer tourists. Parts of central Greece experience fall foliage and colors, while beaches are emptier and cooler.
Temperatures throughout the year
November to March: 44°F to 68°F (temperatures dip to sub-zero levels in some parts of northern Greece) April to June: 52°F to 86°F July to September: 59°F to 113°F September to October: 46°F to 84°F
When is the off season in Greece?
Winter, which lasts from November to around March, is the off season in Greece. Accommodation and flight prices typically dip during this time, as do the temperatures across Greek islands. This is also the wettest season in Greece: rainfall typically peaks in December and January, and some parts of Greece also experience snowfall. The further north you go in the country, the colder it will be. While many historical sites across the mainland remain open, islands and beaches may shut down. Even if they’re not officially shut, the water is too chilly to take a dip in.
Plan at least a week to explore the main attractions in Greece, like sprawling Athens and Mykonos in the Aegean.
How many days are enough for a trip to Greece?
You will need at least a week to explore the main attractions in Greece, in Athens, Mykonos and Santorini. Head to Crete, Greece’s largest island, for beach treks, sunbathing, and lush vineyards. If you plan to also visit lesser-known Greek islands, account for four to five extra days in your itinerary.
Do Americans need a visa for Greece?
According to the US Department of State , “U.S. citizens may enter Greece without a visa for stays of up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes.” That said, remember that travelers who hold passports issued by the United States will need to complete a new travel document prior to traveling to the European Union. The new visa waiver scheme, known as the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is anticipated to launch early next year .
Plan your stay

Nigeria: Two Years After UAE Visa Ban, Portal Opens As Emirates' Bookings Resume
Ahead of the resumption of its flights on October 1, 2024, after a two-year hiatus, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) flag carrier, Emirates, has opened ticket booking for Nigerian passengers.
This was just as the visa application portal was also opened for Nigerians visiting the UAE.
Emirates had in May, this year announced it would resume services to Nigeria from October 1, operating a daily service between Lagos and Dubai, two years after the airline suspended flights to Nigeria over inability to repatriate funds from its ticket sales in Nigeria as it was owed over $85m.
Authorities in the UAE also followed with a visa ban on Nigerians, thereby halting movement between Nigeria and the UAE.
Daily Trust reports that the federal government reopened negotiations with the UAE authorities and Emirates with a view to resolving the issues.
Ahead of the resumption of its flights in less than one month from now, Emirates has opened booking for Nigerian passengers with the cheapest fare of $665.30 (N1,059,969.41) and $8,852 for first class.
This means that any passenger who wants to travel from Lagos to Dubai or Dubai to Lagos from October 1, 2024, can book on the airline's website.
Sources told our correspondent yesterday that the visa application portal had also been opened, with Emirates communicating the development to its Nigerian travel partners.
"We are excited to inform you that the Dubai Visa Processing Centre (DVPC) has reopened and they are now accepting visa applications for passengers travelling to Dubai," a message sighted by our correspondent read.
Checks by our correspondent indicated that a 60-day tourist visa costs N218,450 without any verification fee.
In addition, those stranded in the UAE who want to return home have also been granted amnesty with effect from September 1.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) announced the two-month visa amnesty. The period offers a crucial opportunity for individuals staying illegally in the UAE to rectify their status without facing fines or penalties.
The amnesty is comprehensive, covering all types of visas, including tourist visas, expired residency visas, and even in situations where individuals were born without any official documentation.
The UAE government said that the inclusivity ensured that a wide range of individuals could benefit from the programme; whether they had overstayed their visa or never had proper documentation.

Many Nigerians in the UAE are expected to take advantage of the amnesty to either regularise their stay or exit the country, Daily Trust was told.
A Nigerian resident in the UAE who spoke with our correspondent yesterday said, "Those of us who are here, including those who have overstayed, can take advantage of the amnesty window to return home.
"For those of us who are here now, we can get a visa with the amnesty, and you can get it with all the charges and levies removed. Maybe by next week, those people in Nigeria who want to come to the UAE can begin to get visas, but for now, the amnesty is for those who are here in the UAE."
It would be recalled that the federal government announced that the UAE had lifted its visa ban on Nigerians.
As soon as the announcement was made by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, a fake website was created indicating that applicants were to pay N640,000 verification fee and a proof of $10,000 in their accounts each. Some people who rushed to pay through the website later found it to be fake and not affiliated with the UAE. The UAE denied the conditions.
Aviation analyst and Director of Research, Zenith Travels, Mr. Olumide Ohunayo said while the visa application has resumed, the UAE authority still placed restrictions on some applicants. He said the government can still intercede to expand the visa offering or reciprocate by restricting Nigerian visa to some UAE applicants.

Typing centre agents in the UAE are urging amnesty seekers to ensure they have all the necessary documents as many applicants are coming with incomplete papers to process their applications.
Some typing centres located in the vicinity of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship in the Al Rahmaniya region are seeing a massive rush of people who want to benefit from the amnesty scheme which was launched in the UAE on September 1, 2024.
“Yes, a lot of amnesty applicants are coming for outpass and to legalise their status. But many people are coming with incomplete documents. Those who want to regularise their status and stay in the country need to bring visas from the company which are offering them jobs,” said a typist located in the Tawi Saji’ah area, on the opposite side of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship in Al Rahmaniya.
Some typing centres reduced fees to attract and facilitate more applicants.

Applicants seeking just an outpass are required to bring a passport, photo and a copy of their expired visa.
However, the amnesty seekers who have been offered a job by a company, but have been declared absconders and their visas were not cancelled — they first have to cancel their visa and take a new offer and approval from the labour. They can apply for an outpass and then make the status change without exiting the country. They can then proceed to apply for a new employment visa.
The UAE launched an amnesty scheme on September 1, 2024, for two months, allowing illegal expats in the country an opportunity to legalise their status, which adds a lot of benefits for them including creating new opportunities in terms of job growth among others.
Dozens of amnesty seekers from South Asia, Southeast Asia, African and Middle Eastern countries had queued up outside typing centres to regularise their status. Some had come up to get an outpass for themselves and some were offered jobs by companies and wanted to legalise their status and continue to live and work in the UAE.
Many people who went directly to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship were guided to visit the typing centre for documentation first and then proceed to the authority to complete the process.
A few typing centre personnel were also assisting amnesty seekers by transporting them in their cars to the typing centres due to the long distance so that they don’t have to cross the highway dissecting the Al Rahmnia and Tawi Saji’ah area.
“Since it is a bit far, we are transporting them to the other side of the road. This is a win-win for both of us. This gives us business and they don’t have to walk for such a long distance,” he said.
Typing centres located on the old immigration road in Sharjah said they were getting a lot of inquiries from amnesty seekers for outpasses and those who want to regularise their status.
