General Advice
There is a threat of terrorism throughout the world and in Europe. Terrorist attacks have occurred in a number of European cities, and there is a potential for other violent incidents. We advise Singaporeans travelling or living in Ireland to take the necessary precautions and exercise personal responsibility at all times.
Entry and Exit
Singaporeans can visit Ireland for up to 3 months (for tourism or business) without a visa. For other purposes of visiting, please refer to the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service website at http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/Irish%20Visa%20Information to ensure you apply for the appropriate visa.
Ireland is not part of the Schengen area, and a passport is required to travel between Ireland and other European countries, including the United Kingdom. Passports must be valid for duration of your stay.
You will need to provide any documents necessary to explain your visit, which at minimum includes your passport, visa (if necessary) and landing card (if appropriate); and may also include a travel itinerary, invitations or letters to help explain your visit.
As visa requirements often change at short notice, we advise you to contact your travel agency, or the nearest Embassy of Ireland for up-to-date information.
Safety and Security
Driving in Ireland: You can drive on a current and valid driving licence or an international driving permit from your own country for up to a year. If your stay in Ireland will be more than 12 months, you must apply for an Irish driving licence and go through the full driver licencing procedure to drive in Ireland. This allows foreign drivers to be up-to-date with the local traffic rules and become familiar with the traffic terrain. The procedure to obtain an Irish driving licence is on the National Driver Licence Service website at https://www.ndls.ie/holders-of-foreign-licences.html . Note that there are strict laws against drink driving. Holding and using a mobile phone whilst driving is not allowed.
Public Transportation: Information on Ireland’s bus and rail networks can be found on the Transport for Ireland website at https://www.transportforireland.ie/ . Check for major disruptions on the Irish rail service on Irish Rail’s website http://www.irishrail.ie/ .
Petty crime: Do take sensible precautions due to incidences of petty crime (pickpocketing, bag snatching, passport theft, etc.), particularly in areas frequented by tourists. Secure your vehicle properly and avoid secluded areas.
All visitors and residents are subjected to local laws and penalties. Research on local laws prior to arrival, especially for extended stays.
Additional Information
Health: The standard of health care in Ireland is high. Payment is required before treatment. Ensure that you have comprehensive travel insurance before you travel.
General Travel Advice
Overseas Travel – Be Informed & Be Safe [Updated on 5 February 2024]
Singaporeans planning overseas travel are reminded to take the necessary precautions, including being prepared to deal with accidents, natural disasters or terrorist attacks. Singaporeans are also reminded to be familiar with your destination’s local laws, customs, and COVID-19 regulations.
Demonstrations do occur in major cities across the world. Such demonstrations can sometimes escalate into violence. It is important for Singaporeans to keep abreast of local news, avoid any protests or demonstrations and heed the advice of the local authorities.
When participating in outdoor leisure activities overseas, Singaporeans should be mindful that certain sporting activities, especially in open seas, may carry risks. Besides ensuring that one has the physical competencies and appropriate condition to undertake the activity, every effort should be made to ascertain if the trip organiser or guide is reliable and competent, and that appropriate safety and contingency plans are in place. When in doubt, Singaporeans should consult the relevant professional bodies or sporting associations for specific advice.
For those planning to travel, here are some tips:
Before travelling
- Familiarise yourself with our network of overseas missions.
- Purchase comprehensive travel insurance and be familiar with the terms and coverage.
- Equip yourself with research about your destination’s entry requirements, current situation, local laws and customs.
- eRegister with us on our website ( www.mfa.gov.sg ) so that we may reach out to you during an emergency.
While travelling
- Always take care of your personal safety, remain vigilant and monitor local weather news, advisories, and security developments.
- Exercise caution around large gatherings and avoid locations known for demonstrations or disturbances.
- Be prepared for possible delays and last-minute changes in travel plans especially during unforeseen events such as natural disasters, social unrest or terror attacks.
- Stay connected with your friends and family. Inform them of your whereabouts and provide them with your overseas contact details.
- In the event that you require consular assistance, please contact the nearest Singapore Overseas Mission or call the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Duty Office at +65 6379 8800/+65 6379 8855.
Advisory: Email Scams
There have been reports of individuals receiving scam emails/messages purportedly sent from friends in distress overseas. These emails/messages typically originate from an email address/social media known to the receiver bearing claims of the sender getting into trouble overseas and urgently requesting financial assistance. The sender would also claim to have approached a Singapore Embassy/Consulate and the local Police for help to no avail.
MFA takes the safety of all Singaporeans very seriously. Singaporeans in distress approaching our Overseas Missions for assistance will be rendered with all necessary consular assistance. If you receive such emails/messages from purported friends seeking funds transfers, we strongly advise you to call them first to verify the authenticity of the emails/messages before responding to their request. It is also not advisable to give out any personal information such as NRIC/passport numbers, address, telephone number, etc. Any form of reply, even one of non-interest, could result in more unsolicited emails. Members of the public who suspect that they have fallen prey to such scams should report the matter to the Police immediately. Should Singaporeans abroad require consular assistance, they can contact the nearest Singapore Overseas Mission or call the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 24-hr Duty Office at +65 6379 8800/+65 6379 8855.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is a ministry of the Government of Singapore responsible for conducting and managing diplomatic relations between Singapore and other countries and regions.

To extend the duration of stay, the applicant will have to apply for a Short-Term Visit Pass (STVP) extension. For more information, please refer to Seeking Extension of Visit Pass .

The grant of an immigration pass will be determined by the ICA officers at the point of entry. The period of stay granted is not tied to the validity of your visa. ICA does not accept submission of visa application over the immigration counters. If you do not have a Local Contact with a Singpass/Corppass account, you may submit the visa application:
- Through an authorised visa agent appointed by the Singapore Overseas Missions; or

Ireland Visa application: Financial requirements
There is no specific amount that you must have to get a visa for Ireland.
However, you must show that you can pay for your flights, daily expenses, and any planned activities, based on the purpose of your trip. Travel/medical insurance is also helpful to have.
Make sure to include an up-to-date bank statement along with your documents. Here's what the bank statement should note:
It should be an original document on official bank paper
Your name and address should be clearly mentioned
The statement should display your bank account number and the type of account, such as checking/current account or savings and deposit account
It should show the incoming and outgoing transactions in the account over the past six months
If you're providing a bank statement from a savings and deposit account, you'll need to include an original letter from your bank on their official letterhead. This letter must confirm your ability to withdraw money from that account
If you have a friend or family member in Ireland contributing to your trip expenses , estimate how much they'll be spending in Euros and what they'll cover (if applicable), like the cost of plane tickets.
Your friend or family member needs to show they can afford these expenses by providing bank statements, payslips, and a letter from their employer. This rule applies to any friends or family members.

The child’s birth certificate

Applying for a Visa
You can apply for a visa to Iceland in the countries and cities listed below.
Icelandic embassies issue visas in four cities: London, New Delhi, Peking and Washington D.C. In about 120 other cities around the world, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commissioned other Schengen member states to issue visas on Iceland's behalf.
Many embassies and consulates use service providers to receive applications. Applications are then handed in at application centers, but the embassy evaluates the application and issues the visa.
The fee for a visa application is EUR 80 (EUR 40 for six to twelve year olds).
Application procedure
The application procedure differs depending on where you apply for a visa. It is therefore important to carefully examine the website of the embassy or application center in question to get guidance on the process of your application. You have to click on the relevant country (+) in the list below to see more information on where to apply.
Please note that all visa inquiries must be directed to the appropriate embassy or consulate.
Generally it is necessary to hand in a visa application in person. If all required documentation is submitted and no further documentation is needed, the processing time for a visa is approximately two weeks.
The embassies and consulates are generally authorised to issue visas without consulting the Directorate of Immigration. In some instances, applications are forwarded to the Directorate, which then decides on the granting of a visa.
Please note that the embassies/consulates in the list below only issue short-stay visas (C-visa) for example for tourists, business trips, family visits, official visits and short-term studies. This list does not apply to the issuance of D-visas, which are issued to individuals who have been granted a residence permit in Iceland by the Directorate of Immigration. Information on where D-visas are issued can be found here .
