Fantastic guided tour

We toured London Stadium yesterday as part of a small trip down to London from Glasgow. Neither of us is a West Ham fan (Liverpool, sorry, hahaha), but we were really impressed with the stadium, and the tour guide, Trudy, was excellent and so lovely. I thought the facts about both the club and the Olympics were all really interesting. Would definitely recommend this tour to any football/sports fan!

Taylor Swift brings out Travis Kelce at London Eras Tour date

Travis Kelce suited up for his first appearance on the Eras Tour stage, joining Taylor Swift in London for a skit in which he carried her and danced a little jig.

Taylor Swift had a surprise for fans attending her Eras Tour at London’s Wembley Stadium on Sunday: her boyfriend and tight end for the Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs, Travis Kelce .

Dressed in a tuxedo with a tailcoat and top hat, Kelce joined Swift on stage for a transitional sketch that leads into the song “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” In fan videos, he’s seen carrying Swift, urging her into a costume change. He fanned and powdered her face as part of the act.

Last month, in her first Eras Tour concert since the release of “The Tortured Poets Department,” Swift shook up her setlist. At the La Défense Arena in Paris, fans were treated to the inclusion of new songs from the record-breaking album released in April.

The billion-dollar Eras Tour is meant to be a career retrospective, with Swift performing more than 40 tracks reflecting 17 years of recorded music. “The Tortured Poets Department” was her first brand-new release since the tour’s start.

Taylor Swift, the Eras tour, Wembley Stadium review: An explosion of raw feeling

‘It’s a Friday night in the middle of summer, it’s a beautiful evening, in London and there are so many other things you could be doing”, Taylor Swift told the 88,000 people who had decided to skip the pub to see her return to the city she has loved and, for years, called her home for the first time since 2019. She would know: as she detailed in that year’s song London Boy, the all-American star is partial to stroll around Brixton and Camden Market of an afternoon.

But of course they were there: Londoners and the thousands of further-flung others who had travelled to the city that Swift said was home to “the most supportive people in my corner” were the latest to experience what has, over the past 15 months, been roundly declared the greatest show on earth .

What was different this time, perhaps, was an explosion of raw feeling. From the vengeance of Look What You Made Me Do to the poignance of Cardigan and the sheer, unbridled joy of 22, the emotion ricocheted around Wembley Stadium like the echoes of every single Swift lyric being sung back at her.

The planning and the party had begun hours before and miles away. The rhinestones and the red dresses and the friendship bracelets could be seen on the streets of Belgravia at 3pm, on the Jubilee Line from 4pm and on Olympic Way at 5pm, where people were literally performing expressive dance to Swift deep cuts on the street.

A new mural had popped up on “Swiftie Steps” to the stadium’s left hand corner, and a lengthy queue before it of people who wanted to have their photo with a house-size image of the pop star’s face.

And there was as much excitement inside the stadium before Swift took to the stage. Behind the thousands of young women dressed in the colours of Swift’s 10 eras, stood a little black gazebo filled to the brim with American football players. Her most recent album, The Tortured Poet’s Department, may be largely preoccupied with the foiled love affairs of two London boys - Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy - but it was her new All-American boyfriend, Kansas City Chief’s Travis Kelce, who almost stole the show 65 seconds before she appeared.

As the three-hour show unfolded, he was joined by stars including Cara and Poppy Delevingne and Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness. (Kelce, for what it’s worth, seemed to enjoy Swift’s breakthrough hit Love Story the most, much to the crowd’s delight).

To present a near-20-year-long pop career neatly portioned up into the “eras”, or reinventions necessary to endure and triumph in the music industry, is such a blindingly good idea it’s amazing nobody has done it before.

It also takes a remarkable amount of stamina: this tour is a year in , and Swift still seems astonishingly polished. For those familiar with her previous tours (there were some in the crowd near me who had witnessed her first London gig at Kings College in 2008 - capacity: 250), the language of a Swift performance – the dramatic expressions, the deliciously am-dram dance moves, the pauses to breathe all that adoration in – is only improved by familiarity. Revisiting her earlier music not only brings all those shows and memories back, but reminds you of just how good – ahead of their time, even – they were.

The new songs, so many of them written in the love stories and loss of London, only ramped up the drama. As the midsummer skies dimmed and the stadium lit up with the glowing wristbands everyone was given on their way in, Who’s Afraid Of Little of Me saw Swift glide across the stage while yelling the titular chorus with pantomime villain-worthy delight.

Dancers dressed as psychiatric nurses restrained the star in a giant white bed for Fortnight. There was an acceleration of aesthetics and energy that suggested Swift would love to dedicate an entire tour to The Tortured Poets Department, if she had the opportunity.

Swift kept London waiting for its love letter, but with her acoustic secret song set she delivered: a “megabridge” mash-up of Hits Different and Death By A Thousand Cuts, two songs thought to be about her break-up with Alwyn, on guitar was followed by an impeccably raw medley of Maroon, Come Back… Be Here and Black Dog, the devastating paean to a broken relationship named after a pub she used to frequent with her lover.

As Swift leant back from her piano, drinking in the love for her playing it live for the first time, it was clear that the feeling was mutual.

Swift’s greatest trick? Summoning the weather: as the final era of the night, Midnights, unfurled with the song Midnight Rain, the heavens softly opened. Nobody else could make Londoners question the skies above.

Dave Grohl, Taylor Swift

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl appeared to take a jab at Taylor Swift at the band’s concert on Saturday night at London Stadium.

After mentioning that Swift’s Eras Tour was currently taking place at London’s Wembley Stadium, Grohl said on stage , “I tell you, man, you don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift.”

He continued: “So we like to call our tour the ‘Errors Tour.’ We’ve had more than a few eras, and more than a few fucking errors as well. Just a couple.”

Grohl has praised Swift in the past and even dedicated the Foo Fighters song “Congregation” to the pop star at the BBC Radio Big 1 Weekend in 2015.

“I’m officially obsessed. She might want to get a restraining order because I’m all about Swift,” Grohl said at the 2015 U.K. music festival. “To my opening band, Taylor Swift. Taylor and the Swifts,” he added.

Swift is set to play the last date of her London stop on Sunday night at Wembley Stadium, though she will return in August for another five dates to end the European leg of the Eras Tour.

At her first London show on Friday night, Swift  took a selfie with Prince William , who celebrated his 42nd birthday at the concert alongside children George and Charlotte.

Taylor Swift

Couples who play sold-out stadiums together, stay together. At Taylor Swift ‘s Eras Tour concert in London Sunday (June 23), Travis Kelce surprised the crowd at Wembley Stadium by appearing on stage during his superstar girlfriend’s The Tortured Poets Department set, and in a new Instagram post, the pop star revealed that she still has heart eyes because of it.

Travis Kelce Reveals the Moment He ‘Started to Fall’ for Taylor Swift: ‘That’s My Girl…

Trending on billboard.

The “Anti-Hero” singer also posted a video of her beau’s full appearance, in which he joins two of her dancers in playfully forcing her to perform “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” even after she’s dramatically collapsed following “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” In the clip, he picks her up, carries her over to a couch, fans her and dusts her face with a makeup brush, all while coaching her on how to sing and dance ahead of the next number.

Though Kelce’s hilarious performance was definitely the biggest, Swift’s trio of London shows were full of surprises. At one point, opener Hayley Williams joined the 14-time Grammy winner on stage for an acoustic performance of their Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) duet “Castles Crumbling,” and Grace Abrams later came out to sing new song “Us” with her The Secret of Us collaborator.

“Acoustic sections went OFF,” Swift continued in her post. “I got to sing ‘Castles Crumbling’ with @yelyahwilliams for the first time – hadn’t performed with her since 2011 and man my heart was just so full of love for her and our friendship. Then the impossibly gifted and wonderful @gracieabrams came and surprised the crowd with the first performance of our song ‘us.’”

The pop star will next perform three nights in Dublin starting Friday (June 28), after which she’ll travel through Amsterdam, Milan and more European cities before closing out the leg with five more nights in London in August. In October, she’ll begin the Eras Tour ‘s final leg with a string of shows in the U.S. and Canada.

Taylor Swift’s Eras tour conquers London

At Wembley Stadium, the pop star presented a kaleidoscopic, whiplash-inducing spectacle that passed by in a blur.

Taylor Swift had performed 103 shows in 36 cities before her Eras tour came to Wembley Stadium in London on 21 June. Already on the round for a year, three months and four days, Swift’s three-and-a-half hour set list includes more than 40 songs from her 11 albums, or “eras” (and since the tour started, she has played almost 200 “surprise” songs not on the official list). The tour has sold more than 4.3 million tickets worldwide, generating over $1bn in sales. It’s also been made into a concert film that took $267m at the US box office.

The sheer scale of the event is difficult to comprehend, not just in the abstract but in person. The tour’s first UK dates in Edinburgh saw the city overrun by hundreds of thousands fans. Every bar blared her music and offered free cocktails, every shop contained a sad sign in the window: “Sorry, we are sold out of Taylor Swift merch :( ”. On every corner, you’d see them: girls in sparkly dresses and tour sweatshirts. Even women in ordinary-seeming outfits carried coded messages. The lumpy cable-knit cardigan bought from her official store, the sweater embroidered with her birth year (and album title) 1989, the shirts emblazoned with fragments of lyrics (“crying at the gym” or “pathological people pleaser”). On the way to the venue, closed down streets were trodden by a parade of white cowboy boots. Even a city as big as London can feel overwhelmed by the fandom. At Wembley, the 90,000 fans danced to obscure hits on Olympic Way on the way to the stadium.

But none of this compares to the immensity of the event on stage: a kaleidoscopic, whiplash-inducing spectacle that passes by in a blur, and isn’t anywhere near as exhausting as it should be. Swift rises through the stage surrounded by dancers to a fragment from her euphoric, love-struck album Lover , and after the roar of the crowd has subsided ever so slightly, she introduces herself with a knowingly understated, “Oh, hi!” before launching into one of her most popular pop hits, “Cruel Summer”, a rush of blood to the head with a scream-along bridge. (“Does anyone here happen to know the words?” she asks. “Prove it!”) It’s the kind of indestructible, irresistible song that most artists would save for the encore, but Swift tosses it out early, with a wink.

It sets the bar high for the remaining hours, which careen wildly between genres and tones from her earliest sweet country ballads of first heartbreak to the snarling hip-hop-inspired revenge bangers of Reputation ; and from the bulletproof Max Martin-produced pop that topped charts in the early 2010s to the intricate, defiantly mellow indie of her pandemic albums Folklore and Evermore . (This makes for some startling transitions: the sparkling final notes of the twee and tweenage love song “Enchanted” segues into the growling bass of one of her most confrontational, rap-adjacent songs, “Ready for It…?”.) There are pyrotechnics, light displays, confetti explosions; Swift disappears and reappears on stage in clouds of silks or explosions of colour, seamlessly changing between glittering bodysuits, floaty dresses and a now famous one-legged black catsuit adorned with a shining red snake.

The clever conceit of the Eras tour is that it appeals to all of Swift’s wide fanbase, who advocate for their favourite albums fiercely. Still, there are collective highlights: “Cruel Summer” has caused responses from crowds that register on the Richter scale (really). Heard live, the furious energy of Reputation ’s “Look What You Made Me Do” and “Ready for It” are impossible to deny. Her most perfect pop songs, 1989 ’s “Style” and “Wildest Dreams”, sound even sleeker and more timeless than they did a decade ago. Her oldest songs, such as “Fearless” and “You Belong with Me”, generate intense bursts of emotion because of just how long the crowd have been singing them: the countless 30-something women who sang the lyrics “Been here all along/So why can’t you see/You belong with me?” alone in their teenage bedrooms. The extended, ten-minute-long version of the song that is often considered her masterpiece, “All Too Well”, retains all its emotional complexity, autumn leaves fluttering down from the sky on cue. The exhilarating glitter explosion of “Karma” is a suitably climactic final song. And the introduction of her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department , adds a tricksy, meta element, as she performs songs written during the first leg of the tour itself, including “I Can Do It with a Broken Heart”, in which she brags about “hitting my marks” despite being “miserable… and no one even knows!” (She performs this after being forced, sulkily, into a glittery tuxedo by her dancers.)

Swift proves herself not just an inexhaustible performer but a talented actress, as she moves from yearning to rageful to exultant and back, and feigns surprise and awe, night after night, at the intensity of the crowd’s reactions. She seeks out the cameras that rotate around her stages with practised ease. She is most comfortable in a posture of high camp, whether flashing faux-coy smiles, luxuriating in overdramatic eyerolls, or throwing herself into theatrical Wicked Witch of the West arm movements.

The risk of a concert this slick, this precisely choreographed, this watched and rewatched, with its concrete setlist of songs that are so deeply familiar to its audience, is a loss of spontaneity and intimacy. Swift is something of a type-A performer, and perhaps inevitably for a tour of this scope, this show is more about perfection than messy human interaction. The polished, synthetic production style of her most familiar songs makes them ideal stadium-fillers, and they are reproduced strikingly faithfully here: efficient cuts aside, Swift rarely reworks her material into anything novel.

Instead, she finds one concentrated space for surprise and connection: the “acoustic set”, or two surprise songs she sings on acoustic guitar and piano each night, often mixing different songs together. At Wembley, she played on piano “The Black Dog” – from her most recent album, and set in a pub in Vauxhall – for the first time, blending it with Red ’s “Come Back… Be Here” (“I guess you’re in London today, and I don’t wanna need you this way”) and Midnights ’ “Maroon”. On guitar, she mixed “Hits Different” with fan favourite, the rarely performed live “Death by a Thousand Cuts”, known for its much-loved bridge (“I chose these songs because they are two of my favourite bridges I’ve ever written,” she told the crowd. “I’m going to try to put together my two favourite bridges and create a megabridge”). It’s a special moment for thousands in the stadium: when the concert ended, it was this that countless voices could be heard reliving.

After a production so successful and so expansive, its hard to imagine where Taylor Swift can go next. The Eras tour has the feeling of a greatest hits tour, usually reserved for artists at the end of long careers. You get the sense that her audience would bankrupt themselves to watch her sing anything she liked. But having found a way to celebrate each phase of her back catalogue with the fans who each hold a different one dear, how could she ever put on a standard album tour again? It’s possible that in decades to come, music writers will look back at the Eras tour as the peak of Swift mania, the moment the pop star reached the height of her powers. But hers is a crown she won’t give up easily. As she sang at the end of the night on “I Can Do It with a Broken Heart”, with the stadium echoing her words back to her: “Try and come for my job.”

Taylor Swift plays Wembley Stadium in London on 22 and 23 June and 15, 16, 17, 19 and 20 August.
