RBD

Just a few blocks from the Guaranteed Rate Field, the stadium home to the White Sox located in the South Side of Chicago, concertgoers were spotted clad in Rebelde uniforms — denim skirts (or pants), crisp white button-ups, red blazers and, of course, the red striped tie.

On Thursday (Sept. 7), a sea of multigenerational fans made their way to the venue, where RBD was set to perform as part of their Soy Rebelde Tour — the band’s first show in the city in over 10 years — where fans would get to see Anahí, Christian Chávez, Dulce María, Maite Perroni and Christopher von Uckermann onstage again.

The ultra-successful Mexican pop group, which disbanded in 2008 after conquering the world in the early 2000s with massive pop hits such as “Sálvame,” “Rebelde,” “Nuestro Amor and “Sólo Quédate en Silencio,” is back together for one of the most momentous reunions in Latin music history.

Earlier this year, RBD announced their highly anticipated reunion tour, the band’s return to the stage in 15 years. As an RBD fan myself, it’s safe to say that it was worth the wait. Before performing an ultra-emotional two-hour set covering their extensive pop catalog, a few of the members shared some words of gratitude. “To see you again after many years, it’s very impressive,” Dulce María told zealous fans. “We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.” Maite, who couldn’t help but get emotional added, “RBD never left. Thank you for being here. Thank you for all the years of love.”

Last month, RBD was Billboard Español ’s digital cover story subject , where five out of the six original members (Alfonso Herrera declined to be part of the reunion) spoke about coming back together for a new tour and new music. “All five of us have very different personalities, and with the years, we’ve learned to embrace our differences. But in the end, it’s when we come back together that this grows and this magic explodes,” Perroni said about the reunion. The key is, back then, we came together as the result of an audition; this time, it’s something we chose to do.”

RBD is due back at Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday (Sept. 8) for a second show. Here are the best moments from RBD’s first show in Chicago.

School is in session

From women to men and even kids, everyone was wearing their Elite Way School (the boarding school from the Rebelde telenovela, where RBD was born) uniform. And if you weren’t wearing that outfit — which required denim, a button-down white shirt and the striped tie — you were probably wearing a pink cowboy hat, as an homage to Mía Colucci’s (played by Anahí) music video for “Sálvame.” The fact that everyone there was in uniform was not only impressive, it also speaks volumes to RBD’s lasting influence on pop culture across generations.

Unleash your energy

The stadium went dark a little past 8 p.m. and fans roared — some cried — as the show was about to kick off. “After 15 years, our hearts finally reunite,” Anahí’s voice was heard. “We’re breaking barriers. Today, we unleash our energy.” Then, the fabulous five were a vision, wearing sparkly outfits, standing on a floating pedestal, taking in the crowd’s screams and applause. Anahí, Dulce María, Christopher, Maite and Christian kicked off the two-hour show with bangers “Tras De Mí” and “Un Poco De Tu Amor.”

Generación rebelde!

The last time RBD performed in Chicago was back in 2008 at the Allstate Arena. On Thursday, they performed at a stadium with a capacity of more than 40,000. “How are you tonight, Chicago?” Christian asked the rebeldes in attendance. “You don’t know what it feels like to see you all again. To see you again after many years. It’s very impressive. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” Dulce María said after performing the first two songs. To which Maite added, “RBD never left. Thank you for being here. Thank you for all the years of love.”

“ Arriba las mujeres! ,” Dulce María declared, sharing the stage with Anahí and Maite. “We’re so happy to be here after so many years. We’re now older, with more experience, stronger, more united. Let’s not compete with each other. Let’s create an alliance. We welcome all women that are here to join us three — who are now moms. We’re more united than ever.” The three went on to sing a medley of hits, including “Enséñame” and “Así Soy Yo.”

"Inalcanzable"

Christopher took the spotlight to sing a solo version of the ballad “Inalcanzable.” He started off by letting the crowd sing the beginning of the track. He was clearly blown away at how fans put so much pathos into the delivery. Then, it was his turn to sing, and he did while playing the piano at first — and then walked down the stage’s runway to end the song closer to the crowd. “Tonight, we are one,” he told his fans.

"I’m tired of saying I’m sorry"

Wearing a rosa mexicano -colored mariachi suit, Christian — who fully embraced his queer identity onstage — delivered a chilling version of the bilingual “Tu Amor,” backed by a live mariachi. “Today, I want say a few words because for many years I kept apologizing,” he addressed the crowd. “I was being someone who I wasn’t. You know what? I’ve really had it. Nobody will tell me who to be. Nobody will tell me who I can love. I know who I am. To my parents, my fans, to Mexico, my culture, Chicago, I love you.”

Before taking the stage with her signature pink cowboy hat, Anahí spoke via emotional video voiceover: “Today, we connect again to that vulnerable side. We’re here without fear. We’re here just as we are. Perfectly imperfect. Today, we are strong. We’ve healed. Thank you for not forgetting me.” She then took the stage, wearing pink from head to toe, to sing her anthem “Sálvame,” a highly anticipated moment of the night. Thousands of fans sang with Anahí, who asked everyone to take that moment to reflect: “What would your tell your 2005 heart? Don’t sing this song to me, dedicate it to yourself. Tell your heart, we’ve been saved.”

The red blazers

RBD closed the show in an epic and nostalgic way. As fans screamed “Rebelde! Rebelde!” five mannequins — wearing the iconic Elite Way School red blazer — appeared onstage. People rushed toward the front of the stage knowing this would be the last song. Anahí, Dulce María, Christian, Christopher and Maite, now wearing the blazers, performed “Rebelde” — the song that started it all, the one that soundtracked an entire generation’s teenage years. It was the perfect sign off for the perfect night. A declaration: Y soy Rebelde!

RBD's Soy Rebelde Tour: Everything we know about the reunion shows

RBD on the opening night of their Soy Rebelde Tour.

The red ties and blazers have officially come out now that RBD kicked off their reunion tour!

Dulce María, Christian Chávez, Anahí, Christopher von Uckermann and Maite Perroni took the stage on Aug. 25 at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas, to play their first concert in almost 15 years.

“I am so excited, I can’t believe it,” Dulce María told TODAY.com in Spanish over the phone about the upcoming tour. “I’m emotional ... and I’m just as excited as everyone, the Rebelde generation.”

After teasing a possible reunion last year, the Mexican pop group announced their Soy Rebelde Tour (which translates to I'm a Rebel) on. Jan. 19. The group shared the exciting news on their group’s social media, along with the tour dates for their 2023 concerts. RBD is set to visit cities in the U.S., Mexico and Brazil.

RBD on the opening night of their Soy Rebelde Tour.

Days after the announcement was made, several additional dates were added as fans' excitement grew, including a special final stop in Mexico City at the end of the year.

Additionally on Aug. 17, TODAY.com also exclusively premiered their new song , “Cerquita De Ti.”

The Spanish song is a nostalgia-filled track about being there for one another despite being far away and having a long-lasting connection.

Now that the tour has started and scheduled to go on until the end of 2023, if you're looking for RBD tickets and how to catch them in your city, here's everything you need to know.

When did RBD reunite?

Talks about a reunion tour started when RBD’s music was released on streaming platforms in 2020, followed by a virtual concert in December of that year that included Anahí, Chávez, von Uckermann and Perroni.

Dulce María had just given birth and was unable to join her former bandmates. “Ozark” actor Alfonso Herrera was also an original member of the group, but has previously expressed that he’s focused on his acting career.

“Finally the stars aligned,” Dulce María told TODAY.com, adding that the reunion tour happened at the perfect time. “The five of us got together for this great announcement, these shows that we are going to do. We’ve had the intention of doing this tour for years but it got difficult to get everyone together and our schedules to align.”

What are the dates and locations for RBD's Soy Rebelde Tour 2023?

Dulce María teased nostalgia and good times, telling TODAY.com, “We’re going to give the best versions of ourselves. It’s going to be filled with nostalgia, with the songs that we and our fans grew up listening to.”

Dulce María couldn't wait to sing the group’s biggest hits, including “Rebelde,” “Aún Hay Algo,” “Tras de Mí,” and “Sálvame,” as well as other non-single tracks like “Otro Día Que Va” and “Qué Hay Detrás” and “Tenerte y Quererte.”

Personally, she was excited to sing “No Pares” (“Don’t Stop”), which is a very special song for her. “It’s a song about hope,” she said. “We’ve all been through many difficult moments, and it’s about fighting for what you want and believe and to never stop dreaming.”

  • “Un poco de tu amor”
  • “Cerquita De Ti”

  • “Bésame sin miedo”
  • “Ser o Parecer”
  • “Este Corazón”
  • “Siempre He Estado Aquí”
  • “Empezar desde cero”
  • “Solo Quédate en Silencio”
  • “Nuestro Amor”

What's the history of RBD?

RBD was a creation of the popular Mexican telenovela “Rebelde,” which premiered in 2004. The teen show followed a group of students at the prestigious Elite Way School who formed the musical band RBD. The on-screen group would go on to become one of the best-selling Latin acts, selling over 15 million records worldwide.

During their time together, they released five studio albums. They also earned two Latin Grammy nominations. RBD disbanded in March 2009.

To this day, fans have held out hope that they would one day reunite — especially after Bad Bunny name-dropped them in one of his 2022 songs and did a TikTok singing to “Sálvame” and Anahí responded. Karol G also invited Anahí to sing the hit song at one of her concerts.

Dulce María said “It’s incredible” that a new generation of fans has discovered their music and younger artists have expressed their love for RBD.

“It definitely shocked us and (made it clear) that people wanted us to reunite,” she said, noting that this tour is a one-time event and they don’t have plans to tour for years. “But seeing all (of the fans’ messages), people sharing our music, talking about our telenovela characters, and what our group means to people has been awesome.”

All the love from everyone, she said, only reaffirmed that they owed it to their fans to give them one last wild ride as a thank you.

“It’s confirmed that what we’re doing is important and beyond our current projects and personal lives,” she said. “We just want to share this with our fans one last time.”

“RBD is a cultural movement that has impacted two generations across the globe,” Rosas, who is executive producer of the tour, tells Variety . “I have been part of RBD since its first international tour in 2006 and for me to see the magic awaken again is a dream come true. We are beyond excited to put this show on the road and let the creativity flow.”

Until their disbandment in 2009, RBD released nine studio albums in Spanish, Portuguese and English, and performed sold-out shows all over the world as one of the top-selling Latin acts. It’s been more than a decade since RBD’s last in-person concert (the group reunited for a virtual show in 2020), and when the news of a potential reunion tour began buzzing, the demand from fans was obvious as hashtags like #RBDTour2023 began flooding social media.

“It’s so weird because it has been 15 years and the music was not there, the videos weren’t there. It’s really weird that we’re getting all this attention from people again, but it’s also amazing,” Chávez said in an interview with ET at the time. “Every one of us is so excited about it and it shows us that pop music is still there, and the rebels are still there but in different generations.”
