If you are taking a cruise you may be wondering which plug sockets will be in the cabin.

The below post details the plug sockets found onboard the cruise ships from all major cruise lines.

It’s important to know which plug sockets will be in your cabin as it’s likely you’ll need to bring travel adapters. Get the adapter I use here: Worldwide Travel Adapter

My favourite universal adapter converts UK, US, AU and EU sockets to each other. It also has 4 USB slots meaning that you can charge 5 things at once and comes with fast charging.

What plug sockets do AIDA cruise ships have?

All AIDA cruise ships have a minimum of 2 European plug sockets per cabin.

What plug sockets do Carnival cruise ships have?

All Carnival cruise ships have a minimum of 1 US and 1 European plug socket per cabin. Carnival Vista, Horizon, Panorama, Mardi Gras and Celebration also have USB sockets.

What plug sockets do Celebrity cruise ships have?

All Celebrity cruise ships have a minimum of 2 US and 1 European plug socket. The Celebrity Constellation, Infinity, Millenium, and Summit have an additional European socket available. Celebrity Reflection, Apex, and Edge also have USB plug sockets.

What plug sockets do Costa cruise ships have?

All Costa cruise ship cabins have a minimum of 1 European plug socket. Many ships also have a US socket available.

What plug sockets do Cunard cruise ships have?

All Cunard cruise ships have a minimum of 2 US sockets per cabin plus 1 UK socket. Many cabin grades will have additional sockets available.

The majority of cabins found on Disney cruise ships will have 4 US plug sockets available and all ships apart from the Disney Wonder also have additional European sockets. The Disney Wonder also has 2 USB sockets.

What plug sockets do Fred Olsen cruise ships have?

All Fred Olsen cruise ships have at least two plug sockets. Borealis and Bolette have 1 US, 1 European, and additional UK sockets. Balmoral and Braemer have two European sockets.

All Holland America cruise ships have a minimum of 1 US and 1 European plug socket in each cabin. The Koningsdam, Nieuw Amsterdam, and Nieuw Statendam have 2 US sockets, 2 European sockets, and 2 USB plug sockets available per cabin.

All MSC cruise ships have a minimum of 2 US and 2 European plug sockets. Cruise ships in the Meraviglia, Meraviglia Plus and Seaside class also have USB sockets available. The USB sockets available range from 3-4 per cabin.

Many of the newer ships within the fleet also have USB sockets available ranging from 2-3 per cabin.

All cruise ships owned by P&O Cruises Australia have a minimum of 1 US, 1 European and 1 Australian plug socket.

What plug sockets do P&O Cruises cruise ships have?

P&O’s Arcadia and Aurora only have UK plug sockets with a minimum of 1 per cabin. Some cabins may have additional UK or European sockets. Azura, Britannia, Ventura and Iona have a minimum of 1 US socket plus additional UK sockets. Britannia and Iona have an additional US socket bringing the total to 2 per cabin.

What plug sockets do Princess cruise ships have?

All Princess cruise ships have a minimum of 2 US plug sockets per cabin. Regal, Royal, Enchanted, Sky and Discovery Princess also have an additional European socket. The Sky Princess, Majestic Princess and Enchanted Princess also have USB sockets available.

What plug sockets do Saga cruise ships have?

All Saga cruise ships have at least 3 UK plug sockets and 2 USB sockets. Some higher-grade cabins may have extra sockets.

What plug sockets do Royal Caribbean cruise ships have?

All Royal Caribbean cruise ships have at least 2 US plug sockets and 1 European plug socket per cabin. The newest Royal Caribbean ships in the Quantum and Oasis class will also have 2 USB sockets per cabin.

What plug sockets do Virgin Voyages cruise ships have?

All Virgin Voyages cruise ships have at least 6 USBs, 3US, and 1 European plug socket. Higher grade cabins may have extra plug sockets.

If you feel as though you may need more plug sockets you may tempted to bring a power strip or power cord. These are banned by most cruise lines and as your luggage is searched on embarkation, one should not be brought on board. Alternatives to Power Strips

USB Charging Stations:  Charging stations do not usually include plug outlets but have multiple USB options. They are usually used to charge things like phones, tablets, and cameras. This is my personal favourite option and I’d recommend a charging station for most cruisers. They’re relatively cheap, small and work very well. 

Multi Socket Outlets:  Outlet taps plug into the plug socket and are used to provide additional outlets, most of them include USB options. You may have seen either long or cube-shaped outlet taps which provide 2 or 3 extra sockets.

Outlet Adapters:  Due to the different types of outlets in different countries, outlet adapters provide different types of plugs, and may contain USB options. An outlet adapter may convert a US plug socket to a UK one for example and provide extra USB sockets. An outlet adapter eliminates the need for a separate adapter which you would need if using an outlet tap or charging station. 

Power Banks:  This isn’t so much of an alternative to a power strip as just another thing that you can use to keep your things charged. I’d always recommend bringing a good power bank with you on your cruise, that way you can charge multiple things from the bank and only have to charge the bank up instead of multiple other items. There are many types of power banks and I’ve tried a lot of them over the years. At the moment I am using an Anker power bank which you can find on Amazon here, unlike other banks, it hasn’t lost any capacity as I’ve been using it:  Anker Power Bank*

Note: Some devices will have other names including power port, outlet extender, and wall mount but may still be used onboard as long as there is no surge protection.

i am traveling from US with US gadgets. Is it true you can get an adapter US to European and have an extra outlet. If so what kind of adapter do I use. There are so many when I search.

I'm afraid of power strips being confiscated and looking for options.

You need a US to Euro adapter, sometimes called German Schuko. More importantly, any device you plug into this adapter must be able to take 220V.

Sounds risky. I assume iPhones are ok. iPads but not flat irons hair dryers etc.

You can tell by looking at the labels on your appliances. My wife make sure she bought a hair straightener that works on 110-220V, so she can use that Euro outlet. Heats up faster too.

Most Royal ships have both European round hole 220 volt and US outlets. So an adapter is handy to get an extra outlet. Probably 99% of electronics these days can handle either voltage, so you don't need a transformer (which also weighs a lot). Check your chargers, but all of mine in the last 10 years have been dual voltage.

I believe the Royal ships use American outlets but I can't be positive of that. European nations use 3 or 4 different outlets. Amsterdam and Germany use a two round prong outlet, Italy and Greece use a 3 round prong, England is different but I forget exactly how.

These are extremely cheap on Amazon, I got 3 adapters for Italy for $8.

I'm a bit of an outlet nerd and suggest a grounded schuko 2 in 1 if you're on RCCL/Celebrity a good bit as it provides two outlets in the Schuko socket. It is also nice and snug so if the outlet is a bit loose, the adapter won't fall out.

You'll want to google for "OREI Schuko 2 in 1" or "Wonpro WA-9". They don't have a fuse for surge protection (to be avoided on ship) in these models. Wonpro's a good outlet adapter brand and the top outlet takes non-grounded Europlug or US while the plug on the front takes grounded US and various European plugs. This is great if you are in Europe and the only outlet already has something useful plugged into it.

Wow, I like that. I am not so much interested for cruising. But, DW and I are going to the Maldives in November and I have been research what type of adapter to take. Anybody, know what they use? Near as I can tell it's UK style plugs.

Could be UK (which has three pins since there's a safety slot), more common Europlug ungrounded, or India. I haven't been to the Maldives but understand there are a lot of high end resorts there. I think e-mailing them would be best. There are (not safety conscious) ways to rig a UK or India outlet with Europlug slot but an upscale resort probably has appropriate adapters available. If you want to bring your own ungrounded one just in case, the Kikkerland is a duplicate of a well regarded flat adapter that should do the trick

Be sure to watch the video or read instructions. It has both the round and square peg to open safety switch while most "universal" adapters just do the square peg (UK style).

I prefer Kikkerland origami type over the all-in-one ungrounded types with push out switches as those are typically heavy and fall out of loose sockets. The Kikkerland also has adjustable width for the round pins which makes it fit in some "off the beaten tourist track" places.

Sorry ..but im a total newbi and having never cruised before need to ask do i need some sort of special adaptor for the electric ?

As all my stuff is uk 3 prong ....anyone help ?

If you take a look at the link above, my experience is that each stateroom has one or two NEMA 5-15 American 3 prong plugs, & one Type F 220 Vac plug on the desk area. In the head there is a combination plug that will accept a two prong 110 Vac American plug, or a 220 Vac British shaver plug (see the link above). The plug in the head is keyed to the lights, in other words, if the light is off, the plug is deenergized. Short answer, yes I think you'll need an adapter for your gear.

you have 220/230Volts in the UK use the German plug at the desk in the stateroom.

or you have electrical devices who support 110 to 230Volts.

You will need the same sort of adapter you would use in mainland europe (UK 3 pin to 2 round pin). You can buy these in many shops in the UK and also at UK airports.

One point to bear in mind. In most cabins, there is only one European socket and it is above (and very close to) the desk. You would not be able to plug in a multipoint plug.

If you have more than one thing to plug in I suggest you bring a multi-socket lead extension (what Americans call powerstrip) with UK sockets on. Plug this into the single socket using your European adapter and you can plug in several UK appliances.

This may not apply as I have cruised on Princess but there should be plugs of both types. Interestingly, however, when I tried to plug my laptop in at plugs outside of my cabin, all of them were of the European variety. I never thought to take adapters on a cruise.

Want to re-iterate what English_in_Spain said : you WILL need an adapter AND and an extension cable. We bring along a laptop, GHDs, mobile phones etc.... all need charging..... and our latest addition is a CPAP machine... so a multipoint extension cable is a godsend.

This may not apply as I have cruised on Princess but there should be plugs of both types. Interestingly, however, when I tried to plug my laptop in at plugs outside of my cabin, all of them were of the European variety. I never thought to take adapters on a cruise.   DON

The OP is talking about RCI Voyager OTS. I was on there last month and there are US and European sockets in all cabins. No UK sockets.

There are US 2-pin thin narrow plugs and European 2-pin round plugs

You need adaptors for both - get one of the multi adaptor packs from Tesco and you will have both sorts in there

The plugs are very very close to the desk so if you have a plug socket that is very sturdy at the bottom and doesn't bend then it is impossible to fit it into the sockets!

If you're going to use curlers, or a hairdryer etc, make sure yu get a European adapter and not one for the American sockets. The Euro is 240v and the American is 110v, UK curlers will not get hot using the American socket

Adapter Caribbean Travel Kit | Going In Style

When traveling through the countries and islands of the Caribbean these adapter plugs allow you to plug in your North America appliances into Caribbean wall outlets.

Adapter plugs allow electrical connections up to 240 volts. An adapter plug does NOT change the current or voltage (this requires a converter) unless your appliance is dual voltage. A non-grounded adapter may NOT be used with appliances that have grounded plugs; for these you will need a grounded adapter.  If your hair dryer, curling iron, electric razor is not dual voltage you will most likely need a converter to use your electric.  

Many of our customers find it handy to have multiple adaptors while traveling - either to run several appliances simultaneously or simply as a backup.

Why do I need a North American adapter?

Even though a country uses North American sockets, the sockets are not required to be polarized. Since devices such as laptops have a polarized plug with one prong wider than the other, you may still need an adapter to use your plug in this country.

Grounded Adapter Plugs

If you are traveling with a grounded United States dual/multi-voltage appliance or using a grounded Transformer you will need to use a grounded adaptor plug. A grounded United States plug has two flat blades and one round pin.

Non-Grounded Adapter Plugs

Going In Style offers non-grounded adapter plugs for use with your voltage converter, transformer, or dual/multi voltage appliance. A non-grounded United States plug has two flat blades.

Always check to see how many volts your destination country operates on before you travel.

Always check your appliances before your trip to make sure all of your appliances and electronics are dual voltage.  If an appliance is not dual voltage you will need a converter.  

Computers and Apple Products

If you are traveling overseas with a Toshiba, HP, Lenovo, Asus, laptop or Apple device such as an iPad, chances are you won’t need a voltage converter. Most laptops are multi-voltage and will operate on voltages ranging from 100 to 240 volts. However, computers do need to make safe connections to foreign power systems and a surge protector is recommended and you will still need an adapter to use your plug.

Converter- Changing Current Voltage

Going in Style adapters allow electrical connections up to 240 volts. Adapter plugs DO NOT convert voltage and only change the configuration of the pins. When voltage conversion is needed, use an electricity converter. An electricity converter changes the voltage input into your appliance. The United States electrical appliances operate on a lower current of 110-120 volts AC (Alternating Current). Most of the world operates on 220-240 volts AC. Therefore converter units enable your electronic and non-electronic appliances to run on foreign electricity (220-240 volts) to match the voltage requirements of your 110-120 volt device. Failure to run your appliance with a converter could damage your appliance.

I sailed on Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas. These were my 8 favorite amenities on the world's largest cruise ship.

• Royal Caribbean invited me to spend three complimentary nights on its new Icon of the Seas  in January.
• My eight favorite amenities included the waterpark and jazz bar.
• I've yet to see most of the amenities on my list on other cruise ships.

There's a reason Royal Caribbean's new mega-cruise ship is only operating seven-night sailings .

The 1,196-foot-long, 20-deck Icon of the Seas is packed with bars, restaurants, and things to do. Any shorter of an itinerary, and you might not have time to experience all it has to offer.

If you're a frequent cruiser — especially with Royal Caribbean — amenities like the mini-golf course and water playground may not seem exciting.

But of all the activities the new world's largest cruise ship has to offer, my eight favorites are, for the most part, ones I've yet to see on another vessel.

Take a look at what made the cut.

1. The six-slide waterpark

It wouldn't be a roundup of Icon of the Seas' best amenities without a mention of its waterpark.

Plenty of family-friendly cruise ships have waterslides, but few have six — or even one that requires a multi-person raft.

However, if you don't like the feeling of your stomach dropping, I'd advise skipping the 46-foot-tall drop slide.

2. The adult-only suspended infinity pool

The 7,600-guest Icon of the Seas has seven pools and nine hot tubs. As a kid-fearing adult, I loved the grown-ups-only suspended infinity pool.

I spent my time there perched at one of its in-water loungers, contently splashing my legs around the water, wondering if I actually hated cruises.

While I would've preferred a quieter atmosphere (the DJ did not, in fact, play smooth jazz), the pool's views, day beds, and lack of screaming children were hard to beat.

3. The Crown’s Edge thrill 'ride'

There's no need to grab coffee before harnessing up for the part-zipling, part-agility Crown's Edge course. You'll be jolted awake when the floor drops from beneath your feet, leaving you dangling 154 feet above the ocean before the zipline kicks in.

Unfortunately, it comes with two costs: $49 and a spike of anxiety.

4. The 'Wizard of Oz' and 'Aqua Action!' shows

If you hate cruise shows, Icon of the Seas could make you change your mind.

The ship's riff on Broadway-approved "Wizard of Oz" — 16-piece live orchestra and flying bed included — delighted me, a hater of most musicals.

For something less traditional, the semi-circle AquaDome theater hosts a compelling multi-disciplinary swim, dive, and aerial show reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil.

It's the first show-at-sea I've seen with a waterfall and nine-foot-tall robotic arms, and so far, it's one of my favorites.

5. The live jazz bar

Ya like jazz? So do I.

Icon of the Seas has plenty of live music venues — including rowdy karaoke and dueling pianos bars, if that counts. But if you're a jazz fan or looking for a peaceful nightcap, none of these options will top the live music at Lou's Jazz 'n Blues.

6. The customizable Mediterranean-style wrap at the five-stall food hall

The mega-ship's food hall wasn't nearly as diverse or exciting as the one on Norwegian Prima .

But compared to the rest of my mediocre meals on Icon of the Seas — including dinner at a specialty restaurant — my complimentary pork pita wrap from the food hall's Mediterranean-inspired stall was admittedly pretty decent.

The Cava -like meal was balanced, succulent, and filling. Ending it with a strawberry nutella crepe from one of the vendors didn't hurt either.

7. The Pearl Café with sweeping ocean views

Everyone takes a picture inside the Pearl . But few people know that the best part about the glittering structure isn't what's inside it — it's what's behind it: the Pearl Café.

Admittedly, the food wasn't standout.

But it's 2024. In this era, we don't dine for food. We dine for vibes . And the Pearl Café was definitely "serving" (even with its mediocre sandwiches).

At first glance, I had snubbed the dining and lounge area as a rip-off of a generic airport coffee shop. But during my three days on Icon, I returned to the centrally located space more often than expected. It turns out it's a great place to get some work done.

8. The lounging pods that tower above passerbys

Speaking of vibes, if you're looking for a secluded place to drink (as in, not the swim-up pool bar), few will top the Overlook Pods, perched just behind the AquaDome.

If you want to feel like you're drinking in a nest atop a tree, bring your coffee-infused cocktail from nearby Rye and Bean to one of the elevated pods. .

Just don't drink too much. What goes up must come down. And to get down from the pods, you'll have to take the stairs.

I spent $2,000 for 7 nights in a 179-square-foot room on one of the world's largest cruise ships. Take a look inside my cabin.

• I booked a stateroom on Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas, one of the biggest cruise ships.
• For $2,000 a week, the 179-square-foot cabin had a private bathroom, a king-size bed, and a view.
• I thought I'd feel cramped in the room, but it had everything I needed and left no space unused.

In April 2022, I cruised on board Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas . At the time, it was the largest cruise ship in the world , but the title has since been replaced by Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas .

During my voyage, the ship sailed to Roatán, Honduras; Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico; and Royal Caribbean's private island in the Bahamas .

For $2,000, I spent seven nights in an ocean-view stateroom on deck eight. The cruise was on sale, as it was originally priced at $3,000. Take a look inside the 179-square-foot space.

My room was a mid-tier cabin at the front of deck eight.

I booked a mid-tier room — a step above interior staterooms , which have no window. It's a category below staterooms with a balcony , and two steps below a suite.

My cabin was on the same deck as Central Park, an outdoor space with 20,000 plants.

I thought it was the most relaxing area on the ship, so I enjoyed being close by.

When I stepped inside my stateroom, I was surprised at how big it felt.

Right away, I thought the cabin made great use of a small space.

To operate most of the electricity in the room, I had to insert my room key into a slot on the wall.

I appreciated the energy-saving system.

On one side of the room, I had a mirror and a desk with several outlets to charge electronics with USB, American, and European ports.

I thought the desk was useful for eating, as well as storing daily flyers about the day's events.

Next to the desk, a set of drawers included a cabinet with a minifridge inside.

The desk drawers were mostly empty aside from a hair dryer, which I didn't end up using.

Across from the desk, I had a couch positioned in between two closets.

Inside each closet, I found a rack of hangers, shelving, and a small safe. I thought it was plenty of space for a weeklong journey

Next to the couch and desk area, a small bathroom used clever storage hacks, like placing the trash can and toilet paper under the counter.

In the bathroom, there were two glasses, a bar of soap, and a two-in-one hair and body wash.

At the top of the shower, a pullout clothing line was useful for drying my bathing suits.

Each night, my stateroom attendant replenished towels and brought flyers and schedules for the next day.

Sometimes, the towels were folded creatively to look like animals.

I noticed that my king-size bed at the back of the room was actually two twin beds pushed together.

All Royal Caribbean cabins come with this configuration, according to its website , so they may be separated for additional guests. I often woke up in the crevice.

A large flat-screen TV was mounted across from the bed with storage hooks below.

Skinny nightstands on either side of the bed held lamps, charging ports, and a room phone on one side.

Because I booked an ocean-view room, I was able to look out over the front of the ship from a window above my bed.

The window was equipped with an electronic shade that could be opened during the day for grand views and closed when I was ready to sleep.

While I thought the room might have been a tight space for a couple with a lot of luggage or a family, it was just right for me.

And watching the sun rise over the Caribbean Sea from the comfort of my room was the best part.
