Friendly helpful staff explained how the one way system worked. Tables well spaced out. Hand sanitiser on entrance and staff thoroughly wiping down and sanitising chairs and tables. Food was piping hot and tasty. Pleasant lunch out and felt extremely safe.

I came for a meeting with a new client. I must say from getting out the car we could tell the place is well looked after. We were greeted by a team member at the door who explained all their guidelines currently in place. We... completed the track and trace with ease. We were shown to our table and another team member came to take our orders. The food came in great time and was delicious and hot. We didn't stay too long but all the staff were very attentive and the cleaning they were doing constantly showed how much they do actually care. I will certainly return with my family as this is proven to be a great safe pub. Keep up the good work More

I REALLY enjoyed the breakfast buttys from here. So much tastier than anywhere else in my opinion. I also really love their burgers, and the choice of toppings, however was disappointed to find BBQ beef burnt ends taken off the burger menu. The prices are... fair, the staff are attentive, it's never too noisy and can have a nice conversation whilst having some food. Yum yum yum :) More

We went to this pub on Thursday after hearing good reports. When we went in we couldn’t get a table as most were reserved for (I presume) regulars who were doing the quiz, not a good thing when we were wanting to eat. Eventually after... waiting a while for a table to become free and ordering our food we were told there was a 40 minute wait. After waiting an hour we asked a member of staff (she was extremely polite and helpful) who said it wouldn’t be long. Thankfully she was right but the wait for the table and the food had left a bitter taste in my mouth and we left as soon as we had eaten. More

30th may decided to go for out for tea my husband ordered the beef burger which he thoroughly enjoyed apart from the onion rings, I ordered the steak which came with peas,tomatoe, chips and onion rings UNFORTUNATELY my meals was sent back cold peas soggy... onion rings NO tomatoe. I did explain I did not want it reheating as the steak was tough enough as it was. Apart from that fiasco you had customers walking round bare footed plus there was also a dog allowed where people were dining this dog was not an assisted dog due to health issues it had just been allowed in with its owners. We went on a Sunday afternoon, it wasn’t overly busy. There was one lady serving behind the bar, one bringing food out and one chef. I felt so sorry for the staff, there were constant queues at the bar, we asked for an alcohol free... lager and were given the normal one. The landlord was there but didn’t help out. An elderly couple wanted to order food but every time they went to order, what they wanted was off the menu, they left with nothing. We tried to order food but the queue was so big we decided not to bother. Management needs to step up. More

Four of us went to the Travellers Rest for the first time in a long while after it had been recommended to us and we were not disappointed. A good choice of Senior Citizen meals/small plates great value for money. Staff were most welcoming, friendly,... and attentive. We shall definitely be paying further visits. I went with my family for Sunday lunch yesterday 4/10/20. We were greeted at the door and the member of staff had a visor on, asked to use QR code and hand sanitiser then shown to table. Our food and drinks were brought to our... table, food was lovely. The place was spotless and staff were cleaning as people left. All staff were wearing face coverings and were very pleasant. We felt very safe at this pub I don’t think they could have done anything more. Would definitely recommend it and we will return. More

Came in tonight for a lovely meal with my wife. The food was very filling, tasty and very well presented so big compliments to the chef. Very unhappy today! Came for a meal but wanted to have a few beers first. Bar staff aware we were eating as we checked everything was available on the menu earlier. When it came to eating we were informed that the chef... Who was also... apparently the manager... had gone to pick up some medication and no indication of how long she would be! Strangely enough it corresponded with school kicking out time but who knows! We've enjoyed our meals here in the past but today was bang out of order as we were left hanging with no idea of when we might get fed and had to leave 😢 More

Few drinks with the lads after work the staff are lively grabbed ourselves some nibbles to eat and they were really good, the chicken strips were piping hot and crispy beautiful. Popped in for a couple of drinks at lunchtime was very quiet so plenty of seats available. Lovely and clean, staff very proactive at cleaning the tables when guests were leaving. Used the app to order and pay, drinks bought very quickly to our table... by very friendly staff member! Great to see our local back open without having to book! Look forward to more visits! 🥰 More

A the crest of a small hill this large pub is past its hey day with only a few dreg of support remaining it has been taken over by a chain who can give the cheap offers on booze and meal deals at 2 for £7. Plenty of parking and outdoor seating but not bundles of character or choice inside this will fulfil your most basic of drinking hole requirements.

I have to confess, all this pub hunting is getting slightly hardcore. There are only so many cheeky vimtos a girl can handle. So I was hoping for some inspiration at the Travellers Rest. I can't say that happened especially. What I did find was a reasonable watering hole which packs no jaw dropping punches but does what it says on the tin. Maybe it is pub fatigue as like I say it's armed with enough things to keep you entertained. You've got a pool table, quiz nights and even some cheese busting DJs. Good entertainment if nothing else. The drinks are your usual fair and it's a pretty much run of the mill food menu. I will point out that it is cheap though. If you want to stretch out those pennies, you can certainly do it here. Just take advantage of the two meals for seven quid deal. As you'd hope, live football is shown and it ticks the right boxes without being totally dynamic or original.

It's always a shame when you find a large pub slightly out of the way of your usual route, to discover it too has been latched onto by one of those chains that essentially make pubs particularly unremarkable. With meal deals galore on food that is microwaved and absolutley nothing to write home about, the ample parking is about all that the Travellers Rest has going for it, other than it's large and noticable exterior. But come on, this is a pub, people should most definitely be leaving their cars at home. So really, it only benefits the deliverers, ensuring they don't get in trouble for parking in the street and blocking traffic..

The management here is horrendous, the service is horrible, and it honestly seems like the entire place is run by children. Avoid like the plague.

I wouldn't recommend eating or drinking here again, me and my friends and family had a meal and drinks here and the round of drinks was cleared away while we were using the children's toy machine ( 2mins) and the manager refused to replace them, in fact his attitude was terrible to say the least, we used to visit quite regularly but will never again whilst he's managing this public house!!!!!

Very pleasant for a pub meal, they do a great fish'n'chips! One of my grandma's faves ;-)

Food average and service poor in general. However, on my last visit my food (and half a glass of wine) was cleared whilst I was at the toilet with my little girl!! I explained to the Manager but he offered nothing to compensate.

Much-loved Leeds local, the New Travellers Rest re-opens for all the community and sports fans to enjoy

The popular New Travellers Rest is open again after a £231,000 makeover and serving locals great British pub hospitality just as it has done for hundreds of years.

The pub, which dates back to the 1860s, originally stood on the corner of Station Road and Austhorpe Road before moving to its current location in the centre of Cross Gates.

These latest works have included a full refurbishment inside and out. Customers can now watch live Sky Sports and BT Sport as well as enjoy in-house darts and pool games with quality drinks, entertainment and great service in comfortable surroundings. A new pagoda means there’s outside seating which can be used all-year round, regardless of the weather!

It’s ideally located for local residents while appealing to the wider community thanks to a good-sized car park.

The pub is part of the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company, who were named the Best Community Operator at the 2022 Publican Awards. It invested over £230,000 in the New Travellers Rest so the Leeds community can enjoy this friendly, neighbourhood pub for years to come.

There are new faces at the bar to welcome people to the New Travellers Rest. Kerry Dudding and Gary Scouller.

Both have long and successful hospitality careers here and abroad, most recently across the city centre at a pub (the Butchers Arms) in Pudsey, and they are looking forward to life at the New Travellers Rest.

Kerry said: “This is an exciting time for us starting our journey at the New Travellers Rest just as it re-opens with its brand new look, great sports, entertainment and community activity. We can’t wait to see this fantastic community pub go from strength to strength.”

Inside the décor has been refreshed and revitalised with new carpeting, soft furnishings and comfortable seating added. New booth seating gives customers the best of both worlds – all the pub atmosphere with a little bit of private space. All areas have outstanding TV sports viewing and there is a new darts surround and darts throw and pool table for in-house sports. Clever use of space and zoning means different sports and entertainments can take place simultaneously.

Kerry said: “It’s lovely meeting regulars and locals. There is such a great atmosphere here and now it has all the added benefits of top sports, quality drinks and friendly service so it’s a brilliant place to sit back and relax. It’s a warm and welcoming pub with plenty of comfy seating and lots going on whether it’s TV sports, pool or darts, or live entertainment. The bar menu has been extended and features local, national and international beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks so there is something for everyone. Visited for a refreshing beverage, and that's exactly what we got. Friendly staff with a good range of beers. Well laid out and covid rules still being followed even after restrictions lifted. As soon as a table was vacated, staff where disinfecting.

First day out since lockdown restrictions have lifted and I felt as safe as I could be. Hand sanitizers available and staff as attentive as ever. Wonderful friendly place snd food amazing!
