Hi! My name is Luca and I was born in Rome 43 years ago. At the age of 17 I set off for the United States for my senior year of High School in Milwaukee, WI. Back in Italy, I went on to college and got a master's degree in archaeology. My work as an archaeologist took me all over Italy, and even to Egypt! 10 years ago I earned my tour guide qualification, and decided to join the Through Eternity team. I have been taking visitors around Rome ever since, trying to inspire them and give them an unforgettable experience of the Eternal City. I hope I’ll be able to get back to it soon when all this is over!

My family and I toured the Colosseum with Luca as our guide while we were in Rome in July 2018. When I saw that he was offering virtual tours during the Pandemic, I signed up my entire office to enjoy his tour. Each of us thoroughly enjoyed Luca's virtual tour and his remarkable way of bringing excitement and engagement even into a virtual tour. Even though I toured the Colosseum with Luca in 2018, his ability to use additional media with his virtual tour allowed him to delve deeper into the history and culture that was ancient Rome and the Colosseum. Beacuse of Luca's training and active archeology in Rome, he brings a special perspective and passion for its history. We went in through the gladiator entrance, and it was a special experience to see how the Colosseum looked back in the day. Out of all the sites visited, the Arena Floor was incredible to see and stand where the gladiators used to fight. The tour required wearing VR glasses. I felt a bit silly surrounded by people with the headset on, but soon I got over it, and it was a great tour.

I chose May 8th and the ticket they gave me has the original date of the 9th which ment I could not enter, and they were unable to get me a ticket for the day. I had already rescheduled the events of my trips to aline with the new date of the 8th but apparently there was no need to reschedule as the original date was available and they told me i could come on the original. Which threw a wrench into all of my plans.the manger was unavailable for any kind of help. I would not book with them and find a different company to go with. It started when I was receiving transport through my cruise terminal to the Coliseum. I received a call stating that viator had to change or cancel my Coliseum tour because there was no name on the ticket. However, I don't understand how my funds were processed without a name on the ticket. The ticket process should have not gone through without my name. With Viator knowing how important your name is on a ticket. My tour was scheduled for 12 but the help desk reached out and said they could reschedule my tour time for 10:30 which actually worked out since I was near the Coliseum anyway. Upon arrival we were able to locate our guide. She asked for our name and to no surprise could not find our name. She then proceeds to have an ah ha moment and pulls out her phone and says you are our "special circumstance ". She then asks me for my phone number and texts me 2 tickets. I open the tickets and it's clearly not my ticket. The ticket was for TWO MEN who were of Asian decent (given the last names) who's names were not even remotely close to my WIFE and I's name. Nor was the ticket even in english. I state to the guide that she sent the wrong ticket she goes I know. She said," if you want access you have to use these tickets, there's going to be 3 security checkpoints where they are going to check your passports and match the name to the ticket... if they question you just keep walking and if they kick you out then you won't be able to see the Coliseum. So let me clarify you want me to act like someone else, use their tickets (which they are going to be upset because they might show up too) and you want me to bypass 3 stages of security. I say, what if we don't make it?" She states, " well maybe we can work out a refund" Ultimately, our day was ruined we couldn't even enjoy the day from an anxiety driven tour. We would have liked to upgrade and see underneath the Coliseum but we couldn't even do that because the ticket wasn't ours. It's disappointing because it's already hard enough travel across the world and you want a company like Viator to ease at least one part of your trip. We were not on the list to receive our tickets we were told we could change our tickets to a different day or have a refund which wasn't acceptable as we had travelled to Rome specifically for this experience & we were flying home that afternoon. Several people were in the same position it was utter chaos. We arrived in good time to pick up the tickets & the situation took two & a half hours to resolve. I was given the number of the manager of the company, she wasn't answering. At one point we were WhatsApped somebody else's tickets and we were removed by the police at the entrance as our passports and ticket names did not match. We had been given 3 tickets of another family who would also have been left with no tickets we needed only two. Eventually after alot of stress and my persistence to have it sorted as the girls were constantly fobing us off we got our tickets. Would recommend just purchasing tickets directly through the official Colosseum website as we paid additional fees and received no benefits or services, or through another company. We also were told to be there 15 mins early. They had trouble and were unable to find either ticket for ourselves, and when they did, they had only sent one through. Result: they could not provide us with our tickets and we had to leave with our very disappointed daughter near tears, as her only wish for her first visit to rome was to visit the Colosseum. Stroll through the surrounding square admiring, first of all, the Colossus of Nero, 32 meters high; then the Meta Sudans, the fountain of the gladiators ; the Temple of Venus and Rome; finally the Arch of Constantine . Inside, you virtually witness a battle between gladiators and decide the fate of the wounded gladiator by taking on the role of the Emperor. Will it be Death or Grace? It’s up to you to decide. Finally, put the viewer back on and virtually enter the underground. Walk through the dark and smelly tunnels, where the slaves worked hard to make the show thrilling.

Need to cancel your trip?

If you cancel your reservation you will be charged a 30% cancellation fee. Cancellation between 6 and 4 calendar days in advance of the scheduled departure time, you will be charged a 50% cancellation fee. If you cancel within 3 calendar days (72 hours) of the scheduled departure time, you will becharged a 100% cancellation fee. Refund will only be issued if the tour was booked and paid for directly with Ancient&Recent within a week from the cancellation. The payment will not be refunded for any other reason (i.e. weather, change of travel plans, illness, missed train..).

In transito a Roma per un volo internazionale con le mie due figlie liceali, abbiamo deciso di non sprecare le ore di attesa in aeroporto e di curiosare attorno alla proposta, vista on line, di “Ancient e Recent”. Al telefono ci ha risposto la gentilissima, professionale e veramente competente Cristina, che derogando a tutte le regole, ci ha accolto ed immerso nell’esperienza 3D benché fuori orario. Quando, all’ombra del Colosseo, spiegava le potenzialità dell’esperienza propostaci, da ex alunno del liceo classico sorridevo con sufficienza…a torto! Realmente fantastica la sfera immaginifica della realtà 3D, ci ha regalato un’immersione inaspettata nella storia dell’Anfiteatro Flavio e nella sua funzione quotidiana, con tutti i suoi protagonisti: il popolo, i gladiatori, i leoni, l’aristocrazia e l’imperatore….Consigliata vivamente a tutti, grandi e piccoli, esperti e profani Un grazie speciale ed un arrivederci alla professionalità della brava e gentile Cristina!

It is extremely educational to do this activity. If you are a visual learner this is the best source of information. Be careful!!! This activity does not go inside the Colosseum!!! The Virtual Reality take places outside. I recommend to do this activity and then have another one to get inside the Colosseum

This was the BEST tour ever. Tour guide was most dedicated and most well informed. He was not in a hurry to finish the tour and told us a lot of things outside the colosseum as well. He was kind enough to gives us breaks in hot sun even though it meant increasing tour time. He even gave us amazing food and restaurant recommendations across Rome. 🙏 thank you

Ho prenotato questo per 2 ospiti dagli USA ed è stata un’esperienza divertentissima, con un’immersione in VR all’epoca dei romani. Il tour è disponibile in più lingue e le informazioni a nostra disposizione erano esaurienti e molto interessanti. Impagabile anche il biglietto salta fila per entrare nel Colosseo, Foro romano e Palatino.

Le guide che ci hanno accompagnato sono state gentili e molto disponibili, super puntuali e precise. Un’esperienza che consiglio a tutti, italiani e stranieri 🙂 Sicuramente da ripetere! Grazie a tutto lo staff!
