Lad who lost his job bought cheapest plane ticket he could find and ended up travelling around the world

Lad who lost his job bought cheapest plane ticket he could find and ended up travelling around the world

That's a pretty good silver lining.

Emily Brown

It's always good to find the silver lining in things, and for Kevin John Smith, that came when losing his job gave him the opportunity to travel the world.

And that's a pretty good silver lining, if you ask me.

Kevin's adventure began when he lost his job as a social media manager, and was left with nothing but time on his hands.

Instead of looking for a new role, Kevin decided to get out of the country on the cheapest flight he could find - a journey to Carcassonne, France , which cost just a tenner.

The 30-year-old went with nothing but a rucksack, packed with seven t-shirts, two pairs of shorts and his camera, as well as the trainers and hoodie he was wearing to travel.

Explaining his decision, Kevin said he'd 'always wanted to see the world', but opportunities at work made hard to go 'into the unknown of travelling'.

Kevin set off on his journey after losing his job.

He continued: "However, everything happens for a reason.. I packed my work rucksack and looked for the cheapest flight out of Manchester, which was a £10 Ryanair flight to Carcassonne in France. I'd never ever heard of it."

Kevin spent a couple of days exploring Carcassonne before hopping on a train to Toulouse, after which he flew to Italy for just £9.

He made his way to Lake Como, and from there Kevin visited Lecco, Varenna and Bellagio.

"It was incredible and stunning," he said.

His journey was far from over though, and he later moved on to Slovakia, Vienna and Istanbul, before going to Egypt to take in one of the Seven Wonders of the World - the Great Pyramid of Giza.

"After seeing the pyramids, I was tempted to make that the end of the trip and go home, but I looked for the cheapest ticket out of Egypt which was to Abu Dhabi," Kevin said.

Kevin had some incredible adventures on his trip.

"During my time there, I visited the Grand Mosque and also went to Sharjah and Dubai. The cheapest flight out of the UAE was from Dubai to New Deli, however, I couldn't do that because of some issues with visas.

"So I headed back to Abu Dhabi on a bus and found that the cheapest flight out of there was a £91 ticket to the Maldives."

Kevin's adventure only became more interesting when he landed in the Maldives with no internet and no accommodation to go to, but he managed to find a place to stay after hopping on a boat for 20p - yes, 20p.

Next, it was on to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Singapore, before he flew all the way to the US .

Kevin ticked off multiple continents in a matter of months.

"Everywhere I was going was on a whim. I had no accommodation booked in Bangkok either, but I wasn't scared the entire trip," Kevin said.

His lack of preparation for the trip did backfire due to the fact he'd had no vaccinations, which left him 'wiped out for days' when he fell sick.

Things took another turn when he arrived in Los Angeles, where Kevin couldn't find any available hotels and had to sleep in the airport.

"I thought to myself that this is too far now, and dangerous," he said.

Kevin spent £17 on a flight to Vegas, where he tried his luck in a casino and managed to turn his spare $50 (£39) into $800 (£630).

Kevin went travelling with nothing but a rucksack.

He knew he had to start making his way home, but he used his earnings to stop in New York and see 'all the sights', before managing to secure a flight back to London for £180.

"I arrived home in the same pair of trainers that I left in three months earlier, with the same seven t-shirts on rotation. I felt like a shadow of the person I was when I set off on my trip," he said.

"However, after everything I had experienced, I couldn't stay in Manchester doing a typical nine to five and getting the bus into town every day."

Knowing he wanted to keep pushing himself out of his comfort zone, Kevin went to stay with a friend in Dubai, where he's since moved full time to 'start another adventure'.

Man buys cheapest flight he can find and travels the world after losing his job

Kevin Smith bought a Ryanair flight from Manchester to Carcassonne, France, with a rucksack packed with just seven t-shirts, two pairs of shorts, his camera, and the trainers and hoodie he was wearing

A man who found himself out of work decided to take the cheapest flight out of the UK and travelled the world with just his rucksack in tow.

When Kevin John Smith lost his job as a social media manager, instead of looking for another one, he booked the cheapest flight out of Manchester, which led him to unexpectedly travelling the world and visiting 23 locations.

The 30-year-old took a £10 Ryanair flight to Carcassonne, France, with a rucksack packed with just seven t-shirts, two pairs of shorts, his camera, and the trainers and hoodie he was wearing.

Kevin made his way across Europe from France, through Italy, Slovakia, Austria and a number of other countries before making his way to Turkey and then on to Egypt to see the pyramids - one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

He then ventured to the UAE, visiting Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai, before taking a £91 flight to the Maldives, moving on to Thailand and Singapore before heading to the US.

Kevin spent three months travelling the world, avoiding staying in any one place too long or getting too comfortable anywhere, as he wanted to remain out of his comfort zone.

"I'd always wanted to see the world. I had so many great opportunities in my career that it was hard to just leave and go into the unknown of travelling," Kevin said.

"However, everything happens for a reason. I ended up losing my job, and instead of looking for another job, I packed my work rucksack and looked for the cheapest flight out of Manchester, which was a £10 Ryanair flight to Carcassonne in France. I'd never ever heard of it.

"I spent a couple of days exploring before taking a train to Toulouse. From France, I took a £9 flight to Bergamo in Italy.

"I wasn't a huge fan of Bergamo, so I made my way to Lake Como and visited Lecco, Varenna and Bellagio. It was incredible and stunning.

"Next, I went to Bratislava in Slovakia. I liked it as a place, however I ended up in a mosquito ridden hostel the first night which gave me a bad first impression. So, after some exploring, it was time to move on, and I got the train to Vienna.

"I really enjoyed my time there and spent a couple of days checking out the city. Next, I got myself a £40 ticket from Vienna to Istanbul.

"Istanbul was an incredible place and super cheap. I loved my time there."

After his time in Turkey, Kevin really wanted to see the pyramids in Egypt, so he made his way to Hurghada and then Cairo.

He got to see one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and even went inside of the pyramids, as well as experiencing camel rides with a local, but he said that the poverty in the area was on another level.

Kevin added: "After seeing the pyramids, I was tempted to make that the end of the trip and go home, but I looked for the cheapest ticket out of Egypt which was to Abu Dhabi.

"During my time there, I visited the Grand Mosque and also went to Sharjah and Dubai. The cheapest flight out of the UAE was from Dubai to New Deli, however, I couldn't do that because of some issues with visas.

"So I headed back to Abu Dhabi on a bus and found that the cheapest flight out of there was a £91 ticket to the Maldives.

"I had no internet or accommodation booked when I arrived in the Maldives, so I got a 20p boat from the airport to Male and luckily found a place to stay for a few nights.

"I wasn't in the touristy parts of the Maldives, and I was getting lots of attention from locals because visitors don't usually stay there.

"I visited local beaches and explored the area, however, as it wasn't a tourist-popular area, some parts were really run down.

"The cheapest flight from Male was to Bangkok, so I made my way to Thailand. Everywhere I was going was on a whim. I had no accommodation booked in Bangkok either, but I wasn't scared the entire trip.

"Although at some points I felt like I was losing myself, because I was so exhausted from the travelling, and sometimes felt lonely, it was so good because I wanted a challenge."

After finding a hostel in Bangkok and making his way around the bustling city, Kevin then moved on to Chang Mai, before getting a bus to Pai.

He said: "Pai was so remote. There was nothing around at all, but it was stunning. It looked like something from a film.

"I was just booking hostel day by day, as I went along. It was a lot easier to plan in Thailand because there are lots of travellers.

"I hadn't had any jabs or anything, because I had no idea where I was going to end up, which meant I ended up getting really sick, and I was wiped out for days.

"After riding out the sickness, I then went to Singapore. It was so expensive while I was there, and the hostel I stayed in was awful, but I had no job and was living off of my savings so I had no choice.

"Somehow, I managed to blag my way into Raffles Hotel to use their spa facilities, which were insane. That gave me the confidence to continue blagging my way around Singapore and I managed to explore for so much less.

"I then spent £700 on a flight from Singapore to San Francisco, and then to LA. I arrived at 1 am, and there were no hotels available, so I slept at the doors of the airport with my blanket from the flight.

"I was freezing, and I woke up next to a homeless person. I thought to myself that this is too far now, and dangerous. I booked the cheapest place I could find the next day, which was in LA near Cecil Hotel and Skid Row."

Kevin said he didn't "really get the hype of LA", so he booked himself onto a cheap flight to Las Vegas as soon as he could.

"I did all the touristy stuff there, but I was running out of money and needed to try and work my way home. I had $50 spare to spend and since I was in Vegas, I went to Caesars Palace to gamble," he said.

Luck was on his side as within two hours, Kevin managed to turn $50 into $800. As he now had more money, Kevin flew to New York before heading back to the UK.

He said: "I did all the sights in New York and treated myself to a hotel. I then found a flight back to London for around £180 and then got the train back home to Manchester.

"I arrived home in the same pair of trainers that I left in three months earlier, with the same seven t-shirts on rotation. I felt like a shadow of the person I was when I set off on my trip.

"However, after everything I had experienced, I couldn't stay in Manchester doing a typical nine to five and getting the bus into town every day.

"I wanted to stay out of my comfort zone and keep making more memories. So I ended up going to live with a friend in Dubai, and I have had some more amazing work opportunities. I have packed my bags and moved out to Dubai to start another adventure."

Kevin Costner 'loved' John Mulaney's 'Field of Dreams' Oscars bit: 'He was a genius'

kevin john travel

If you build a great " Field of Dreams " awards show bit, Kevin Costner will come and praise it.

In an interview with People published Sunday, the " Yellowstone " star heaped praise on comedian John Mulaney for his extended joke about the 1989 baseball movie at last month's Oscars .

"I couldn't believe that guy," Costner told the magazine. "Amazing. I watched it a second time."

While presenting the Oscar for best sound, Mulaney playfully described the plot of "Field of Dreams" in great detail, citing "If you build it, he will come" as one of the great lines in cinematic history. Costner starred as farmer Ray Kinsella in the film, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.

Costner's character "mows down corn, and then there is a field, and then he's like, 'I'm going to watch ghosts play baseball,' " Mulaney joked at the Oscars. "And the bank is like, 'You want to pay your mortgage?' And he's like, 'Nah, I'm going to watch ghosts play baseball.' "

'Yellowstone': Kevin Costner makes surprising revelation after drama-filled exit

After recounting the plot of the movie, Mulaney concluded, "I love 'Field of Dreams,' that should win best picture, though they'll probably go with one of this year's."

Speaking to People, Costner said he was "very touched by" what Mulaney said, adding, "I should talk to him because I was really impressed. He was a genius. I loved what he did."

'Field of Dreams': The new owners of the movie site unveil plans for youth baseball and softball complex

Costner previously reacted to Mulaney's bit in the days after the Oscars, writing on Instagram that it was "not a bad summary."

The official YouTube clip of Mulaney's "Field of Dreams" Oscars segment has amassed more than 900,000 views, with many comments calling on the comedian to host the 2025 Academy Awards. The "New in Town" comic and former "Saturday Night Live" writer previously hosted the Governors Awards in January and delivered a well-received monologue that some fans saw as an audition to eventually serve as Oscars host.

"It's an absolute no-brainer to get an incredibly famous comedian who actually enjoys and respects the craft of filmmaking to host a film awards show," one comment read. "He’s gotta host the full show next time."

Four-time Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel, though, recently said on his show that he has been asked to host the ceremony again in 2025 and that he "might" do so − if only to spite former President Donald Trump, who called him the ceremony's worst emcee in history.

Luke Grimes Understands Kevin Costner's 'Unfortunate' Yellowstone Exit: 'You Gotta Do What You Gotta Do'

Costner left the Paramount Network drama in May 2023, and the series will conclude with part two of its fifth and final season this November

Luke Grimes is supporting his on-screen dad Kevin Costner .

In an interview with The Independent , Grimes, 40, addressed Costner’s contentious departure from Yellowstone . “Whatever happened there is unfortunate if it’s changed anything about how the show will unfold,” said Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton, the son of Costner’s John Dutton III .

According to the Fifty Shades Darker actor, Costner became preoccupied with “passion projects” like directing and starring in the upcoming Western epic Horizon: An American Saga .

“At a certain point, you gotta do what you gotta do, man; you gotta do what you love,” Grimes concluded.

Cam McLeod/Paramount Network

Rumors of Costner’s departure from the Paramount Network show surfaced in February 2023 following a Deadline report, indicating that the star’s divided attention had become “a source of frustration for [creator Taylor] Sheridan.”

In May 2023, Entertainment Tonight confirmed that Costner would not return for future installments of the series. That same month, Paramount announced that the hit show would end after the second half of season 5, initially slated for November 2023 but postponed due to the writer's strike . It is now scheduled to premiere Nov. 10, 2024.

Sheridan, 53, said he was “disappointed” that the Golden Globe winner quit, as it “truncates the closure of his character.” Still, he praised Costner’s “symbolic and powerful” portrayal of John.

Though the Hell or High Water writer did not comment on the reports of on-set tension, he said: “I’ve never had an issue with Kevin that he and I couldn’t work out on the phone.”

During a child support hearing amid his divorce from ex-wife Christine Baumgartner , the actor spoke out about his exit for the first time. He revealed that his decision to leave the show was influenced by the choice to split season 5 into two parts.

“I couldn’t help them anymore. We tried to negotiate, they offered me less money than previous seasons, there were issues with the creative…” he testified.

On April 9, 2024, months after his exit from Yellowstone , Costner expressed interest in returning to his role as the Dutton family patriarch. “I'd like to be able to do it but we haven't been able to," he told Entertainment Tonight . “I hope it [works out].”

Yellowstone can be streamed on Peacock.

Kevin-John Jobczynski: Disney Master Artist Spotlight

Sharing is caring!

Kevin-John Jobczynski is a Disney Master Artist among so many other things. He is a business owner, a humanitarian, a motivational speaker and all around great guy. I had a chance to sit down with Kevin-John and chat about his art, his passion and where he will go from here.

kevin-john disney master artist

Kevin-John Jobcyznski: Disney Master Artist

In typical Kevin-John fashion he is humbled by his success. This was not an overnight success, it was a lot of work, dedication, and hard-fought resilience that helped to build his empire.

Who is Kevin-John?

Kevin-John has had a long road to get where he is today. When he was in 3 rd grade, Star Wars: A New Hope was released, and it was then that a fire was lit inside him to be an artist.  While going through school, he continued to work and perfect his style of art.   At 17 he had a business plan without even knowing it. He knew that he would someday have to support himself, and knew he wanted to do that with his art. He didn’t want to be a starving artist selling his work at local festivals under a tent. He had much bigger dreams, and boy did they come true!

He is an incredible talent, and get this, has little to no formal art training. He is simply gifted, oh and did I mention, he is color blind. A celebrated, master artist who is color blind. Yeah let that sink in for a minute.

All of his art starts with a special color of purple, a color formulated by him. He has never shared the formula with anyone. It is known as Kevin-John Purple. His work starts with that color because it is the easiest color for him to identify and build upon. He works only in water colors. A difficult technique because of it’s fast drying nature, there is no room for error. If you want to watch his work come to life, follow him on facebook as he always shares his creative process with fans.

Since 1987, the Kevin-John brand has quickly become one of the strongest fine art brands. With a client list that houses more than 350 of the top athletes, celebrities, pro sports teams and corporations in the country, as well as an international list of collectors, he is one of the most in-demand professional artists of our time. If you have met Kevin-John you know he doesn’t let any of this fame go to his head, he is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met.

How Did He Get To Disney?

Kevin-John spent 25 years as a sports artist for ESPN. It was through his work at ESPN that Disney found him.  Over all his years as an artist, he was able to build his brand nationally and Disney decided to approach him.  At first, he ignored the phone calls and emails as he didn’t see himself as an animator or character artist.  He is very simply put, his own brand.  It wasn’t until his girlfriend, finally encouraged him after several ignored calls and emails to meet with Disney. They knew his strong background in realism and portraiture and had given him specific direction to create art based on environments and experiences in the parks.  After all, that’s what Walt Disney World is really about, isn’t it?

By being a master contract artist, he isn’t an employee of Disney and is still able to run his own business.  Because of that, he couldn’t sign fast enough.  It was that same day that he and his girlfriend went to Disney and got an “I’m Celebrating” button to wear around the parks.  When asked by the Cast Member what he was celebrating, he started to cry happy tears.  He was able to wear a button that said “I’m celebrating being Disney’s newest artist!”

So what makes his Disney art so unique?  His homage to Walt Disney, the legend that he loves, shines through in all of what he does.  He has such a passion and love for Walt himself and the parks he envisioned.  The parks, however, had the most impact on his art.  Working for Disney wasn’t ever a dream he had.  It was a goal that he was working towards from his early career.  His objective would be, that if Walt were still alive, Walt would go to him.  While Walt is no longer with us, his vision is.  And with that, Disney did come to him!

Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

This year, Kevin-John’s painting was chosen as the signature art for the event. Kevin-John comments, “The Festival is such a highlight on Disney fan’s calendars, that I knew that I had to do the event justice through my art. I believe that this painting says it all. Everything that we love about the fest. In fact, the piece is titled “Eat, Drink, Music, Magic, Repeat.”

kevin-john jobczynski disney master artist

KJ’s painting will be sold as framed giclees, matted prints and more at Walt Disney World during the event. If you will be in Walt Disney World for the festival be sure to visit during one of his exclusive signing events. It will certainly be a Disney moment you won’t soon forget.

kevin-john jobczynski

There are only 20 Disney Master Artists in the world. To say that Kevin-John is a Disney treasure would surely make him blush, he just does what he loves. His theme park centered art has brought happiness to many collectors, and will continue to for years to come.

He won’t be slowing down anytime soon, and all I can say for now is Disney fans better get ready for what’s coming next.

Jon Stewart Torches 'Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary

Jon Stewart hit out at Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary over his remarks about Donald Trump 's New York civil fraud case.

Trump was ordered to pay $464 million on Monday, after Justice Arthur Engoron concluded that the former president had inflated the value of his assets to land bank loans and secure business deals.

"You might be saying to yourself, well, that sounds pretty straightforward. Whatever gains you got from lying, you have to pay back," Stewart said in the latest episode of The Daily Show .

"Well, that's because you're a f****** idiot," the 61-year-old joked, before jumping into media coverage of the trial.

In a recent interview with CNN , O'Leary said the ruling "didn't go over well with the investment community."

"We're all asking each other, who's next?" the Canadian businessman said.

"Ah, who's next? The persecuted minority of the investment community," Stewart quipped in response to the clip, describing O'Leary as "such an a******, even the other people on Shark Tank think he's an a******."

Newsweek has reached out to Jon Stewart and Kevin O'Leary for comment via email.

O'Leary joined the reality show in 2009, sizing up entrepreneurs before deciding whether to invest in their business. The 69-year-old is known for his brutal assassinations of contestants , regardless of their back story.

The comedian said he was "surprised" to hear O'Leary defend the inflation of business assets, due to his previous comments on Shark Tank .

Stewart cut to a montage of O'Leary slamming entrepreneurs on the reality series, accusing them of over-valuing their business ideas.

"Which one of you do I tear to pieces now on a $28 million valuation?" he tells two hopefuls in one clip.

In another, he asks a contender: "You think this is worth $10 million?"

"Absolutely," the man replies, to which O'Leary says: "Now I'm going to rip you to pieces, are you out of your mind?"

In other snippers, the business mogul calls entrepreneurs' estimates: "Insane," "crazy" and "stinky poo poo."

At the latter, Stewart joked: "Canadians are so vulgar," before asking "How is he not this mad about overvaluations in the real world?"

"They are not victimless crimes," he continued. "First the banks got paid back at lower interest rates. Second, money isn't infinite, a loan that goes to the liar doesn't go to someone who's giving a more honest evaluation.

"The system becomes incentivized for corruption."

Wrapping up the segment, Stewart shared another clip of O'Leary's CNN interview, in which he claims the charges against Trump are "done by every real estate developer everywhere on Earth."

"This has never, ever been prosecuted," O'Leary said, causing The Daily Show audience to loudly boo.

Stewart compared O'Leary's logic to 2013 horror movie The Purge , in which all offenses are decriminalized for 12-hours annually.

"There is a theory in law that if enough people commit a crime, it automatically becomes legal," he said.

"The f****** entitled arrogance. I don't know if you know this, but most people can't commit fraud and expect to face no repercussions, even if everyone is doing it."

Stewart returned to The Daily Show in February, after originally hosting the late-night talk show from 1999 to 2015. The comedian back to cover the run up to November's general election, regularly skewering both Trump and Joe Biden .

Luke Grimes

Luke Grimes is sharing his thoughts on his onscreen dad  Kevin Costner ‘s exit from Yellowstone .

During a recent interview with The Independent , Grimes addressed Costner’s seemingly controversial departure from the hit Western series, saying while it was “unfortunate,” he understands the actor’s decision.

In the Taylor Sheridan co-created series, Grimes plays Kayce Dutton, the son of Costner’s John Dutton III.

Although Costner’s Yellowstone exit was rocky, especially after he threatened to file a lawsuit  last year, he told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month that he would “love” to return for the  final episodes  to see his character’s story come to an end.

“I’d like to be able to do it but we haven’t been able to.… I thought I was going to make seven [seasons] but right now we’re at five. So how it works out — I hope it does — but they’ve got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I’d love to do it,” the Oscar-winning actor said at the time.

He added, “[Dutton] needs to be proactive in what happens and I’ve kind of had my own fantasy how [the character’s final arc] might be. But that’s Taylor’s thing. I said as much to him a while back. I had thoughts how it could happen, but we just have to see.”

It has previously been reported that Costner wanted to approve his character’s fate in the series, but Sheridan — like most showrunners — doesn’t typically let actors determine how their character’s storylines end.

While the show hasn’t officially announced a start date for production on part two of the fifth season, The Independent reported that filming for the rest of the season is set to begin in May as the scripts are already written.

“I think a lot of people see a cowboy hat and a horse and they think, ‘Oh, that’s not for me, those people believe differently.’ And it’s almost like they take these flawed characters in the show and chalk it up to some sort of weird belief that they’ve put on them,” the American Sniper actor explained. “Meanwhile, you can have a terrible person like [ Succession ’s] Logan Roy, who lives in an apartment in Manhattan, and that’s fine. That guy’s a total piece of shit! But that’s OK. It’s so funny to me because…I just don’t understand why that has to immediately equal some political belief. And I don’t think it does.”

Paramount Network previously announced that the second half of Yellowstone’ s fifth and final season is set to premiere in November; however, it’s not currently clear if that date may change due to production timing.

Kevin spacey docuseries acquired by max, trailer revealed.

Warner Bros. Discovery acquires the Kevin Spacey docuseries, Spacey Unmakes, for a Max premiere with a trailer also revealed for the show.

  • Spacey Unmasked , acquired by Warner Bros. Discovery, will detail Kevin Spacey's rise and fall from fame, featuring interviews with multiple men.
  • The docuseries promises an in-depth look at Spacey's career, starting from childhood to the sexual assault allegations and his ultimate downfall.
  • Spacey Unmasked may be Max's riskiest documentary yet, potentially rivaling the acclaimed The Jinx for its captivating portrayal of controversial events.

A docuseries featuring Kevin Spacey, Spacey Unmasked , has been acquired by Warner Bros. Discovery, and the first trailer has been revealed. The two-part series was first commissioned by Channel 4 in 2022, and it will include interviews with multiple men who, for the first time, speak about their experiences with the actor. These men aren’t connected to the 2023 U.K. trial against the actor, where Spacey was found not guilty on all counts of sexual assault. Spacey Unmasked will chronicle Spacey’s career, starting with his childhood, early Broadway success, and his rise to fame and ending with his fall.

According to Variety , the docuseries has finally been completed and has been acquired by Warner Bros. Discovery. On top of that, the first trailer has been released. Watch the trailer below:

Spacey Unmasked is set to release in the U.K. on May 6 and 7, though U.S. premiere dates have not yet been announced. The trailer is short, but it promises an in-depth look at the acclaimed actor’s before-lauded career and his public fall.

Unmasked Is Max's Riskiest Documentary To Date

While the series of events might not be as dramatic as those regarding The Jinx , Spacey Unmasked has the potential to be just as captivating, if not more so.

Spacey Unmasked may be one of Max’s riskiest documentaries. Chronicling the actor’s career and the allegations held against him will be no easy task. In 2017, Star Trek: Discovery 's Anthony Rapp claimed that Spacey made a sexual advance towards him in 1986, when Rapp was only fourteen-years-old. That was the catalyst for a wave of accusations against the actor. Ultimately, this would lead to fifteen people coming forward with stories of sexual abuse involving Spacey, including eight people who worked on House of Cards .

The new docuseries may rival Max’s acclaimed The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Hurst . The documentary, which first aired in 2015, followed the New York real estate heir, who was convicted for the murder of Susan Berman. The docuseries gained worldwide exposure and fame when Durst was arrested on first-degree murder charges a day before the finale aired. It was thanks to this acclaim that HBO would announce development on The Jinx — Part Two , which premiered in April 2024.

25 Best Documentaries On Max

While the series of events might not be a different kind of dramatic as those regarding The Jinx , Spacey Unmasked has the potential to be just as captivating, if not more so. The docuseries will chronicle the rise and fall of Spacey , someone who used to be one of Hollywood’s most distinguished actors, so it may see a similar reception. However, with it also coming much closer to the events at the crux of its story, it will be interesting to see if audiences ultimately find themselves unready to explore Spacey's life.

The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Hurst is available to stream on Max.

I love teaching travel photography. Photography, and teaching it, is my passion. So I love to share my experience, to empower you to enjoy photography more. Above all, I particularly love teaching travel photography.

To enjoy photography more means you have to be taking better photos than you were before. In order to do this, our workshops are all about teaching travel photography.

I (Kevin) have had over 30 years of professional photography experience. Starting out in newspapers I covered all manner of subjects throughout my career.

Chiang Mai Photo Workshops Kevin teaching travel photography

My work as a photographer started on the photo desk in a daily newspaper. This was an exciting opportunity. I was working with and learning from ten professional photojournalists. But, it was harder than I thought. These photographers were very competitive and secretive about how they made their photographs. As a result, I found learning from them difficult.

Over time, I gained the confidence of a few senior photographers as they realized I was serious and they began to teach me.

As I progressed through the ranks I became a photojournalist myself. This meant my job became my photography school. I was learning by experience. I had to come back from every assignment with at least one publishable photograph. The pressure was on and it was superb motivation.

As a result of this early frustration to find willing teachers has always inspired me to share what I know.

Freelance Photography

Before moving to Chiang Mai I ran a successful freelance photography business. Since moving to Thailand I have continued to pursue my career in photography. I have also branched out into documentary film making. I love the relaxed northern Thai culture and people.

My images are featured in many national and international publications including Time Magazine. My award-winning work is also represented by

I am on the advisory board of TIPS (Thailand International Photography Society.) I write my own photography blog. Photzy, Digital Photography School and other photography blogs also publish articles I write.

I’m a self-taught photographer with a depth of experience that I desire to share with others. One other way I love to do this is through my Photography Mentoring Program.

I developed Chiang Mai Photo Workshops because I want to share my knowledge and experience. My aim is to provide our customers with the best photography training. I can also run Thailand photography tours.

Our Chiang Mai travel photography tours and workshops are for people who want to immerse in photography for a day. We also run photography tours and workshops from our boutique bed and breakfast. Come and stay with us at Suan Sook Homestay . Teaching travel photography in this environment happens at a relaxed pace. Your stay can be as long or short as you’d like.

I want to give you an experience where your photography ability grows more in a day than it ever has before.

Starting with a conversation about your photography experience we progress from there. This helps me learn where you are at and leads to more precise and personally focused teaching.

I teach travel photography and other aspects of camera use. Please let me know if you have something specific you want to learn about so I can tailor my teaching for you. There’s always room for lots of questions and extra clarification on the difficult stuff.

Don’t worry that you won’t remember it all because we give all our workshop customers one of our online courses.

This course supports and revises our in-person workshop teaching. Once you’ve enrolled you can revisit the lessons as often as you like. There’s also a whole bunch of practical photography exercises included.

Moscow Travel Guide: Best Things to Do + More [2023]

· everything to know about visiting moscow, including the best things to do and how to get around. ·.

the red st basils church in moscow on a white winters day

Moscow is Russia’s vibrant capital city, and it also happens to be the largest city in all of Europe. The city’s long and infamous history makes it one of the most unique places we have ever visited.

The architecture ranges from centuries-old palaces to uniform, gray concrete buildings. The people range from cold and private to warm and welcoming. Moscow is a city is strong juxtapositions, and we learned a lot during our time there.

This post will break down all you need to know about visiting Moscow, including the best things to do, how to get there, how to get around, and more.

The Best Things to Do in Moscow

1. explore the red square.

The Red Square is the heart of Moscow. Most of the city’s top attractions can be found here, including just about everything on this list. The Kremlin, St. Basil’s Cathedral, and Lenin’s Mausoleum are all located here, and the State Historical Museum and GUM are not far from here, either.

The Red Square is a common home for parades, protests, and seasonal celebrations. There are massive Christmas celebrations here, with food vendors and carnival rides set up in numbers.

2. Check Out the Ziferblat

The Ziferblat is a café in Moscow that is unlike any café we have ever been to. While most cafes charge you for your drinks and food, the Ziferblat charges you for your time.

Upon arrival, you are given a clock. When you leave, the barista calculates how much time you spent in the café and charges you accordingly. This concept was created to help visitors to be more intentional with their time, and the cafe itself is incredibly charming.

For a detailed look at everything you need to know before you visit, make sure you read my post about visiting the Ziferblat Cafe in Moscow .

3. Marvel at St. Basil’s Cathedral

St. Basil’s Cathedral is one of the most iconic churches in the world, and it was the single thing we were most excited to see while in Moscow. Built almost 500 years ago, St. Basil’s Cathedral is recognized by its colorful domes and whimsical style. The church is of the Russian Orthodox faith, and the inside is just as wondrous as the outside.

St. Basil’s Cathedral is located on the edge of the Red Square, making it incredibly convenient to visit. Entrance for non-worshippers costs 800 rubles, and tickets can be bought at the church

4. Explore the Kremlin

The Kremlin is the largest active fortress in Europe, and it is the site of most of Russia’s government affairs. In addition to government buildings, the Kremlin Complex is filled with courtyards, towers, and museums that are open to the public. If you have the time, you could spend a couple of days fully exploring all that there is to see in the Kremlin.

5. Walk Through Lenin’s Mausoleum

Vladimir Lenin is one of the most important figures in Russian history, and his body is located perfectly embalmed in a mausoleum in the Red Square. The Mausoleum is open to the public to visit, and as long as you are willing to go through a few security checks, it is easily one of the best things to do in Moscow. Its convenient location in the Red Square makes it a can’t miss attraction.

There is absolutely no photography allowed inside the Mausoleum. Do not test this rule.

6. Wander Along Arbat Street

The Arbat is a very popular street in Moscow that is lined with stores, cafes, and other touristy attractions. It is one of the oldest streets in the city, dating back to the 1400s. This street is both quaint and trendy, and there are many walking tours that introduce tourists to the neighborhood’s wonders and highlights.

7. Catch a Show at the Bolshoi Theatre

As a lover of the arts, it is hard to think of Moscow and not think of ballet. Russia has always been a top dog in the world of fine arts, and Bolshoi Theater is one of the best places to catch a performance. We were lucky enough to attend an Opera here, and it is a venue that you don’t want to miss out on if you enjoy opera, ballet, or orchestral performances.

8. Visit the State Historical Museum

The State Historical Museum is one of the most respected museums in Moscow. Despite its name, it is not really focused on the history of Russia as a nation. Rather, it contains a collection of artifacts from all throughout Russia’s history.

The museum’s collection is very broad in nature. It houses some items from indigenous tribes that used to occupy the region, pieces collected by the Romanov family, and more.

9. Wander Around GUM

GUM is an absolutely massive mall within walking distance of the Red Square. It isn’t just the size that draws visitors here; it’s the sense of luxury. The mall is so beautiful inside, much like the metro stations.

While visiting a mall might not sound like it belongs on a bucket list, this mall does. You will not want to miss out on visiting GUM while in Moscow.

10. Admire the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour

While St. Basil’s Cathedral is the most iconic church in Moscow, it isn’t the only one. The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is absolutely stunning, with massive golden domes. It is the tallest Orthodox church in the world, and it is the seat of the Orthodox Patriarch of Moscow.

It is located just about a mile from the Red Square, just south of the Kremlin Complex. You can walk to it from the Red Square in about 20 minutes.

How to Get to Moscow

Flying to moscow.

Moscow has three major international airports: Sheremetyevo (SVO) , Domodedovo (DMO) , and Vnukovo (VKO) . All three of them are directly connected to downtown Moscow by the Aeroexpress trains, which leave every 30 minutes throughout the day. By Aeroexpress train, you can expect to get to the city center in 25-45 minutes depending on the airport that you fly into.

Sheremetyevo is the biggest and busiest of the three airports, and it is the one you are most likely to fly into – especially if you are coming from outside of Europe or the Caucus region. We flew into Sheremetyevo on a direct flight from New York City.

I usually provide backup airport options, because flying right into the city isn’t always the cheapest way to get where you’re going. Unfortunately, when it comes to Moscow, don’t really have a choice other than to fly right into Moscow. It is a very remote city, and it is usually the cheapest place to fly into in Russia as a whole.

Since Sheremetyevo is so busy, you will probably find a great flight option anyway. I wrote in  my post about finding cheap flights  that using hub airports will lead to more affordable airfare, and the same logic applies here. Even though Russia’s national airline, Aeroflot, is no longer a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, Moscow is still a major hub connecting passengers from all over the world.

Train or Bus to Moscow

Trains and buses are one of the most popular ways to get around Europe. However, they’re of very little use when you’re trying to get to Moscow.

Moscow is hundreds of miles from the nearest major cities. The only major European city that can even be reached within 8 hours on the ground is St. Petersburg, and even the Baltic capitals of Riga, Vilnius, and Tallinn are over 12 hours away.

If you want to get to Moscow, the best option is almost always to fly. While the train routes to Moscow are scenic, they simply take forever.

How to Get Around Moscow

METRO | TROLLEYS | TRAMS | BUSES

Moscow has one of the most memorable metro systems in the world. Its metro lines are very deep underground, and the stations are absolutely stunning. Each station has its own unique style, but all of them contain escalators that seem to go on forever.

turned-on chandelier on ceiling of moscow metro

The system was built in an effort to showcase the power of the Soviet Union and its bright future. The plans were a form of propaganda, but they resulted in what is still one of the most visually appealing subway systems on earth.

Moscow’s metro system isn’t just pretty. It is also very useful and accessible. The system has 17 lines that connect the city and its surrounding area.

But wait; there’s more!

The Moscow metro system is also incredibly affordable, with each ride costing less than a dollar. The metro is by far the best way to get around Moscow, as it is almost impossible to beat the connection times and the low cost to ride.

Tickets can be bought at electronic, English-speaking kiosks in stations, or directly from ticket counters at certain larger stations. There are also day passes available, which are a very solid option if you plan on riding the metro several times per day.

The metro is by far the best way to get around Moscow.

In addition to the metro system, Moscow also has a network of buses, trams, and trolleys. This system is nowhere near as convenient or well-connected as the metro, though, and is likely of little use to you during your trip. There is no Uber in Moscow, but a similar app named Yandex is available if you need a ride in a pinch.

How Many Days Do You Need in Moscow?

Moscow is the biggest city in all of Europe, and it is absolutely loaded with things to do. You could spend weeks in Moscow and still find new things to do. Of course, most travelers don’t have that kind of time to spend in one place!

I recommend spending no less than three full days in Moscow, and ideally closer to five or seven.

Moscow is very spread out, and it can take some time to get from one major point to another. There are also so many places that are nice to just sit back and relax, which is hard to do when you’re in a hurry trying to cram activities into just a few days.

If you only have a week to visit Russia, I’d advise spending all of the time in one city. If you decide to split your time between Moscow and St. Petersburg, I recommend not trying to squeeze in any day trips beyond those two cities.

When Is the Best Time of the Year to Visit Moscow?

There are two different ways to approach this question. Personally, I think the best time to visit Moscow is around Christmas and New Year’s Day. While the weather will be absolutely freezing, Moscow is a surreal winter wonderland in December and January.

We were in Moscow right before Christmas. While it was very cold, you can always bundle up. Exploring the Christmas markets and pop-up ice skating rinks throughout Moscow is one of my favorite memories from anywhere I’ve traveled, and I dream of going back to do it again.

If you aren’t fond of the cold, Moscow is beautiful in the summer. It tends to get pretty cold in the shoulder seasons, so if you want warm weather, you should plan to visit in the summer. Moscow actually gets pretty warm in July and August, and there are a bunch of fantastic places to soak up the sun within the city.

The best time to visit Moscow is either around Christmas or from late May to August.

group of people walking in moscow red square at night with christmas lights everywhere

Is Moscow Safe to Visit?

While Moscow is a truly wonderful city, there’s no denying that visiting Russia comes with risks. As the country is run by an infamous communist dictator, concerns about visiting are valid. While we didn’t experience any sort of threat or negative treatment during our time in Moscow, we visited in a peaceful time.

In our experience, Russia doesn’t seem to detain normal Americans or Westerners to use as pawns. As a regular person, as long as you don’t commit any crimes, there is a slim chance you will run into any issues. However, Russia will not hesitate to enforce its laws against foreigners, and illegal behaviors will likely land you in a very compromising position.

Russia will not hesitate to enforce its laws against foreigners, and illegal behaviors will likely land you in a very compromising position.

To make matters worse, Russia has a bad reputation for gang violence. While the Russian mafia has very little interest in normal Western tourists, they won’t hesitate to pick a fight with anyone who ventures into their sphere of influence. If you seek out illegal substances or activities, you could be a target of the mafia.

If you seek out illegal substances or activities, you could be a target of the mafia.

Finally, since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, things are all very different. Russia is currently at war, and there are battles raging within 8 hours of Moscow. While it is still relatively safe to visit, that could change at any time as the war with Ukraine continues.

Is Moscow Worth Visiting?

Without a doubt, Moscow is worth visiting. It is one of the most unique major cities we have ever visited, and we hope to make it back one day. The Russian Orthodox churches are stunning, the city’s history is unlike any other, and the food is to die for.

While many visitors prefer St. Petersburg to Moscow, I think Moscow deserves a lot of hype of its own. Moscow is the beating heart of Russian culture and history, and it’s a place I highly recommend checking out if you have the chance.

2024 NFL Draft tracker: Falcons' Michael Penix Jr. pick may have required some explaining, other viral moments

A look at some of the viral moments from day 1 of the draft.

usatsi-eminem-draft.jpg

The 2024 NFL Draft is finally here, kicking off on Thursday in Detroit. Round 1 hopefuls and NFL fans waited patiently on Day 1 as the teams selected players to add to their squad.

The Chicago Bears had the No. 1 overall pick and, as expected, took USC quarterback Caleb Williams  in hopes that he will be their next franchise starter. The Washington Commanders followed, selecting LSU QB  Jayden Daniels and the New England Patriots rounded out the top three with North Carolina QB Drake Maye .

While there is a lot of excitement in the selections, the action outside of the picks is entertaining as well. Here are some of the best moments from Round 1, from Detroit legends to confusing picks and everything in-between:

Eminem and other Detroit legends

The draft kicked off in a very fitting and very Detroit way, with legends from the city and from the Lions . Commissioner Roger Goodell teased a rap battle with Eminem, but after introducing him on the draft stage, changed his mind. The crowd quickly went from booing the commissioner to cheering for one of the cities most iconic artists.

Current Lions Jared Goff , Amon-Ra St. Brown , Aidan Hutchinson and Pro Football Hall of Famers Calvin Johnson  and Barry Sanders all took the stage alongside Slim Shady.

History made

This drafts marks the earliest four quarterbacks have been selected in the common draft era (since 1967). USC's Caleb Williams was the first QB and first player off the board, going to the Chicago Bears. Two more quarterbacks followed, with the Washington Commanders selecting LSU's Jayden Daniels and the New England Patriots picking Drake Maye out of North Carolina.

After quarterbacks went with the first three picks, players in the position took a pause from being selected, but not for long. At No. 8 the Atlanta Falcons , who signed quarterback Kirk Cousins this offseason, surprised most by adding to their QB room with Michael Penix Jr . out of Washington.

Not only was it the fastest that four quarterbacks were taken, it was also the first time in draft history that six quarterbacks were selected in the first 12 picks. The last time six quarterbacks were taken was in 1983, which included John Elway, Jim Kelly, Ken O'Brien and Dan Marino. This group has a lot to live up to.

The number of offensive players taken to kick off the event was unprecedented. It was the first time the that all of the top 14 selections were offensive players and was the longest streak of offensive players taken at any point. The longest a draft had previously gone before a defensive player was off the board was seven picks in 2021, when the Carolina Panthers took Jaycee Horn at No. 8

Walter Payton Man of the Year announces pick

The Walter Payton Man of the Year award is known as the most prestigious award in the NFL . Goodell noted that while the draftees will make a difference on the field, their difference off the field will be felt as well. He then introduced the 2023 winner of the award Cam Heyward. The Steeler has made many positive contributions to the community, including creating Cam's Kindness Week, where he reaches out to various areas of the community daily, and working with The Caring Place, which offers programs to support children and families who are grieving after a devastating loss.

In his speech, Heyward had a challenge for NFL players and the players being added to the league this weekend.

"Use your platform to brighten someone's day. The opportunity before you is a gift and by coming here and being in this league, seize that moment. Be better in our communities, be better for our league and our world," he said.

He then announced that with the No. 20 overall pick, the Steelers  seelct Troy Fautanu , who was emotional while receiving the call.

Jordan joins from Australia

The NFL has been making an effort to expand to other countries, with multiple games in various places around the world. What started as a program with games in London has expanded to Germany and Brazil.

Philadelphia's Jordan Mailata announced the Eagles ' first-round selection from Australia and the best part is, he did it in an Australian accent. Defensive back Quinyon Mitchell  was the Eagles pick, off the board at No. 22.

Kevin O'Connell's trade reaction

The Minnesota Vikings traded up from No. 23 to No. 17 to get Alabama edge Dallas Turner . When head coach Kevin O'Connell heard the trade was happening and the team would be able to get its guy, he had quite the reaction. Clearly Turner was a player O'Connell wanted, and for good reason.

Here is a look at the reaction and the phone call that followed:

Yes, really. 📞: @UnoErra pic.twitter.com/CQ5ISVQ28F — Minnesota Vikings (@Vikings) April 26, 2024

The Vikings took McCarthy with their first selection of the night and were able to get two key players without giving up a first-rounder next year.

Falcons' pick need explaining?

The Falcons had the biggest surprise pick of the night, taking quarterback Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8, despite signing Kirk Cousins for $180 million this offseason. The selection left fans with puzzled faces. If the pick works out, the Falcons will have the last laugh, but right now it leaves for a lot of second-guessing.

After the selection, it looked as if general manager Terry Fontenot was explaining himself to owner Arthur Blank. What was really being said, we may never know. Perhaps they were discussing what food they would get when the draft concludes, but it was perfectly timed for the internet to run wild with it.

This very much looks like Terry Fontenot trying to explain himself #Falcons #NFLDraft pic.twitter.com/1vl7CgIrfV — Cody Chaffins (@CodyChaffins) April 26, 2024

Penn State coach congratulates first-rounders

A pair of Nittany Lions got selected in the first round: The New York Jets took offensive tackle Olu Fashanu with the No. 11 overall pick and the Miami Dolphins took pass rusher  Chop Robinson  at No. 21. With two of his former players getting selected in the first round, Penn State coach James Franklin wanted to make sure he was there to congratulate them both in person. The two players live close, which made the surprise possible.

Check out their priceless reactions to seeing their former coach show up at their house on draft day:

When you have two first-rounders that live an hour apart… you make it happen. Made it just in time. 😂 @CoachJFranklin pic.twitter.com/ALHKJSuwip — Penn State Football (@PennStateFball) April 26, 2024

This scene definitely makes the cut of best Round 1 moments.
