PM Narendra Modi in Mumbai today, Metro Lines 2A and 7 to be inaugurated
Cm eknath shinde and deputy cm devendra fadnavis set to visit davos to attend world economic forum between january 15 and 19, may change their plan..
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mumbai on January 19 for the inauguration of the Navi Mumbai Metro’s 5.96-km stretch between Central Park and Belapur stations, according to sources. The 35-km stretch of Mumbai Metro’s 2A and 7 lines is also likely to be commissioned in PM Modi’s presence on the same day, they said.
However, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis are scheduled to visit Davos to attend the World Economic Forum between January 15 and 19. There is buzz that they may come back early for the Metro inauguration event or change their plan to visit Davos, which is expected to bring investment opportunities for Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which constructed the elevated Mumbai Metro 2A and 7 lines, is struggling to get a confirmation of dates from the government about the inauguration of these lines, as per sources.
Both these Metro lines pass through Link Road and Western Express Highway (WEH) and are expected to reduce traffic from these major roads as well as help reduce crowding in existing suburban local train services.
In April 2022, then Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray flagged off the first phase of the 2A and 7 lines, the 20-km stretch from Dhanukarwadi (Kamran Nagar) to Aarey Colony in the western suburbs of Mumbai. On average, this stretch is drawing 25,000 ridership daily.
Once the entire stretch of these two lines with 30 stations and a 35-km elevated corridor becomes operational, it can carry nearly 3 lakh passengers per day, according to officials of Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL), which takes care of the metro rail’s operation and maintenance.

Navi Mumbai gears up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's grand visit
- 11 Jan, 2024
In light of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 12 for the inauguration of several key development projects, meticulous preparations are underway, ensuring that the city sparkles to welcome PM Modi and other esteemed dignitaries.
Prime Minister Modi is set to inaugurate significant initiatives like the Sewri–Nhava Sheva Trans Harbour Link, Navi Mumbai Metro Line Project 1, Kharkopar-Uran Railway, and the launch of Mahila Sakthikaran Abhiyan.
The preparations involve a comprehensive clean-up effort by dedicated teams from Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Uran Municipal Council, MMRDA, CIDCO, and other associated government agencies. Over the past two days, employees and officers have been working tirelessly to ensure the cleanliness of the surroundings, especially the inauguration site of the Sewri–Nhava Sheva Trans Harbour Link.
The entire stretch of the Mumbai-Pune highway, Palm Beach, and Thane Belapur route has undergone polishing, creating a well-maintained route for the movement of VIPs from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation area. Eight departmental office cleaners from Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation have been deployed for extensive cleaning from Vashi to CBD and JNPT highway.
“In the run-up to the event, major roads, including Sion-Panvel highway, JNPT road, Thane-Belapur road, Ulwe node, and the route leading from Panvel to the event venues, are being meticulously cleaned. Asphalting, pothole filling, lane marking, and divider painting are underway to ensure smooth and well-marked routes”, said an official from NMMC.
Addressing long-standing concerns, efforts are being made to rectify issues such as debris and overgrown trees along the Sion-Panvel highway and Reti Bandar to JNPT highway. Specific measures are being taken to hide any remaining dirt by using protective sheets.
To uphold the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan ideals, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has placed signs along the Sion-Panvel highway, clarifying that maintenance and repair, as well as cleanliness, are managed by the Public Works Department. However, recognizing the importance of the Prime Minister's visit, the municipal corporation is taking extra measures to ensure the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of Navi Mumbai, leaving a positive impression on central officials and public representatives.

PM Modi to inaugurate 'Atal Setu' tomorrow; all you need to know about India's longest sea bridge
The bridge is expected to drastically reduce the travel time between mumbai and navi mumbai. currently, the journey takes approximately two hours, largely due to heavy traffic.
- Updated Jan 11, 2024, 12:58 PM IST
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Maharashtra on Friday, will inaugurate the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) -- the longest sea bridge in the country. The bridge, officially known as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewari-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, will get a go ahead from PM Modi at around 3:30 pm on January 12 in Mumbai.
According to an official statement, Atal Setu has been constructed at a total cost of more than Rs 17,840 crore. It is about 21.8 km long six-lane bridge having about 16.5 kilometres length over sea and about 5.5 kilometres on the land. It is the longest bridge in India and also the longest sea bridge in India.
"The bridge will provide faster connectivity to Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport and will also reduce the travel time from Mumbai to Pune, Goa and South India. It will also improve connectivity between Mumbai Port and Jawaharlal Nehru Port," the statement said.
The bridge is expected to drastically reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Currently, the journey takes approximately two hours, largely due to heavy traffic. However, with this project, the same distance could be covered in a mere 20 minutes. This development is set to bring significant relief to the residents of Mumbai, freeing them from the constant burden of traffic congestion.
The maximum speed limit on the MTHL will be 100 kmph for four-wheelers, according to a police announcement on Wednesday.
Motorcycles, autorickshaws, and tractors will be prohibited from using the sea bridge, the police said, as per PTI.
The speed limit for cars, taxis, light motor vehicles, minibuses, and two-axle buses will be 100 kmph, but will be reduced to 40 kmph on the ascent and descent of the bridge. The Mumbai police have set the speed limit to prevent "danger, obstructions and inconvenience to the public".
Meanwhile, during his visit to Maharashtra, PM Modi will inaugurate the 27th National Youth Festival as well. He will also participate in a public programme at Navi Mumbai, where he will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than Rs 12,700 crore.
