'The Visit' movie trailer

This might be one of the scariest movie trailers ever. "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs" director M. Night Shyamalan returns the genre that made him famous with " The Visit ." The movie uses the popular "found footage" approach to tell the story of a couple of siblings whose trip to visit their grandparents quickly gets very scary. Shyamalan took a break from thrillers to take a shot at the action and science-fiction genres with "The Last Airbender" and "After Earth." Both of those movies bombed with critics, but did serviceable business at the international box office. Now, however, Shyamalan seems ready to get back to what he knows how to do best. For "The Visit," he teamed up with Blumhouse Productions — the red-hot production company behind such hits as "Paranormal Activity," "Insidious" and "The Purge." If the trailer is any indication, it looks like Shyamalan will finally get back into the good graces of his biggest audience. "The Visit" is due in theaters on September 11, 2015. The Visit Trailer (2015)

Trailer for The Visit .

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable) and producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, The Purge and Insidious series) welcome you to Universal Pictures’ The Visit. Shyamalan returns to his roots with the terrifying story of a brother and sister who are sent to their grandparents’ remote Pennsylvania farm for a weeklong trip. Once the children discover that the elderly couple is involved in something deeply disturbing, they see their chances of getting back home are growing smaller every day.

Shyamalan produces The Visit through his Blinding Edge Pictures, while Blum produces through his Blumhouse Productions alongside Mark Bienstock (Quarantine 2: Terminal). Steven Schneider (Insidious) and Ashwin Rajan (Devil) executive produce the thriller.

The Visit is a film with a bit of humor and horror . Writer/Director M. Night Shyamalan actually cut the film three different ways. He edited the film to be a pure comedy, then pure horror, and then one that fell somewhere in-between which is what can be seen in the final cut.

Although The Blair Witch Project made the found footage style of horror popular back in 1999, there has been a resurgence in popularity in the last few years. This is Shyamalan's first found-footage film. Shyamalan usually makes a cameo in his films i.e. The Sixth Sense , Unbreakable , The Village , but did not make a cameo for this particular film. The Visit is Shyamalan’s lowest budget studio film with a budget of $5 million. The film did very well and earned over $65 million at the box office. His previous film, the Will Smith starrer After Earth cost $120 million to make (and did terrible).

The Visit Trailer Screencap

There is a moment in the trailer for The Visit in which two children tell their mother that there is something wrong with their grandparents to which their mother tells them that they are just old. That moment made me chuckle because that is the general consensus about the elderly from the perspective of their family which makes the premise of The Visit all the more terrifying.

The two kids want to visit their grandparents because apparently they never had in the past, and since they are their family it is reasonable to assume that they would be safe during their extended stay. The grandparents set a reasonable bedtime because they are older and believe kids should get their rest. Everything is normal until suddenly it’s not and the grandparents are out of their minds. Grandma is trying to get her granddaughter in the oven like she’s Gretel or something, and the Grandpa is staring down the barrel of a gun like it is normal.

The Visit is bizarre and the trailer is filled with plenty of frightening moments making it a must-see for fans of the genre. The fact that the film is from M. Night Shyamalan almost guarantees there will be a twist in the end , whether that will be like The Sixth Sense twist or more like The Village twist is where the quality of The Visit rests. Either way, The Visit looks like a good scare fest with an amusing and frightening premise.

The Trailer For The Visit Will Make You Appreciate Your Boring Grandparents

click to play video

With a tagline that says, "This September, stay in your room," I'm already intrigued by The Visit . It comes from M. Night Shyamalan, writer, director, and producer of the movie. The horror film revolves around two kids who are sent to live with their grandparents for a week. While they still communicate with their mother (Kathryn Hahn) via video chat, she refuses to believe them when they start telling her that things have gotten weird. Their grandparents are involved in something sinister, and I'd really like to know what it is. While Shyamalan hasn't accrued the greatest track record over the past decade, let's not forget that he is still the guy behind The Sixth Sense , and this movie could be great. Check out the trailer above, and get the scoop on even more upcoming horror movies .

'The Visit' Trailer: Kid, Don't Get In That Oven

The Visit trailer

What if the gingerbread house witch in the story of Hansel and Gretel was the kids' actual grandmother? That concept looks like part of the inspiration for The Visit , the new film from writer/director M. Night Shyamalan . In the film, two siblings are sent off to visit their grandparents, and while the strictly-enforced 9:30pm bedtime seems weird right off the bat, the kids soon find that something is very definitely not right. There are late-night noises, strange behavior, and eventually some much weirder goings-on.

Check out The Visit trailer below. There's even the beginning of a "kid in the oven" scene here, just to tie up the connection with the old Brothers Grimm tale.

My first question after watching this trailer is: "so, is The Visit found-footage, or not?" We know the movie teams Shyamalan with Jason Blum, known for found-footage horror, and this trailer definitely has some found-footage hallmarks. But at other times it appears to be shot like a traditional film.

Also, while there could well be a twist of some kind towards the end of this film, the trailer makes The Visit look like a straight-up thriller – there's really no disguising how weird this situation is. So that could be different.

Trailer via Universal. The Visit opens in September.

Either way, they should not be unmoving several feet off the floor.

The Big Picture

  • Steven Spielberg surprised the cast and crew of The Thursday Murder Club movie adaptation.
  • The film features a star-studded cast including Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and David Tennant.
  • Production of the film began in June 2024 and is slated to wrap up in September of the same year.

The upcoming Netflix movie adaptation of presenter and author Richard Osman ’s The Thursday Murder Club has recently played host to a surprise guest, who spent time with the production’s cast and crew. Producer Steven Spielberg visited the set, pictured with a select few of the highly-anticipated adaptation’s famous faces . Spielberg stood alongside Celia Imrie , Ben Kingsley , Pierce Brosnan , Helen Mirren , Osman himself, and director Chris Columbus . Columbus is known for previous projects such as 1990’s Home Alone and 1993’s Mrs Doubtfire .

The film is an adaptation of Osman’s 2020 murder mystery novel of the same name . The text was the British TV personality’s debut novel, and was one of the best-selling books of the year, later becoming a Platinum Bestseller, having reached over 1 million copies sold across the UK. After The Thursday Murder Club’s success , Osman has followed up with a further three titles, The Man Who Died Twice , The Bullet That Missed , and The Last Devil to Die , with a currently untitled fifth novel expected to hit the shelves in 2025.

What Do We Know About ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ So Far?

The Thursday Murder Club is set to be jam-packed with famous faces. Alongside Speilberg and Osman’s on-set ‘friends, the film will also star Richard E. Grant , known for Withnail & I and more recently Saltburn , Tom Ellis , known for Lucifer , David Tennant , Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes , Geoff Bell , Paul Freeman. The film will also star Ted Lasso ’s Sarah Niles , Jonathan Pryce , Naomi Ackie , and Osman’s wife Ingrid Oliver , who has previously starred in Doctor Who . Production began on June 27, 2024, in Beaconsfield, and is scheduled to wrap in September of this year .

The film marks the second partnership between Steven Spielberg 's Amblin Entertainment and Netflix, who entered into a production agreement concerning the project in 2021, just one year after the novel debuted. Alongside directing the feature, Columbus penned the script based on Osman’s source material, and will be producing the feature alongside Jeb Brody , Eleanor Columbus, Jennifer Todd , Holly Bario , and Jo Burn . Currently, there is no firm release date for The Thursday Murder Club , and little is known as to whether there are currently any intentions for Osman’s sequels to hit the big screen.

Filming for Thursday Murder Club is expected to last into the end of September, according to Osman. No release date is yet in place, but stay tuned to Collider for updates.
