FULL REVIEW of Palo Brunch on Disney Cruise Line

By Kelly Oliveros 2 Comments

One of the big benefits of a cruise is that it is generally an all-inclusive type of vacation.  Your room, food, all kinds of entertainment, and more are typically included in one single cost — making planning and budgeting a whole lot easier.

disney cruise palo reservation

Disney Dream

But there are certain EXTRAS you can add to your cruise experience, like a spa date or special dining. On Disney Cruise Line, dining at the fancy, adults-only Palo restaurant (either for dinner or brunch, when offered) is an additional charge and reservations can fill up FAST. Is this a spot you should make a point to visit and pay extra for? Let’s find out!

As we noted above, Palo is an adults-only restaurant on Disney Cruise Line. We ate at Palo on the Disney Dream, but you’ll also find it on the Magic, Wonder, and Fantasy, and there’s a different version of this spot ( Palo Steakhouse) on the Disney Wish .

Brunch here is an additional $45 per person (that is NOT included in your regular cruise price). Note that we were invited by Disney to eat at Palo Steakhouse as media during this particular cruise.

disney cruise palo reservation

There is a semi-formal dress code . Disney specifically notes, “tank tops, swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, shorts, hats, cut-offs, torn clothing, T-shirts with offensive language or graphics, flip-flops and tennis shoes are not permitted at Palo.”

Disney explains that men can wear dress pants or slacks and a collared shirt (a jacket is optional). Women can wear a dress, skirt, or pants with a blouse. Jeans are allowed if they don’t have holes and are in good condition.

disney cruise palo reservation

It’s FANCY

Reservations are highly recommended for Palo. They can fill up really quickly because this is a popular spot with limited seating. Be sure to look at getting online reservations as SOON as you can if you want to dine here. If you can’t score reservations in advance, try and see if you can grab a reservation as soon as you board the ship.

There is a cancelation fee, so be sure to cancel at least 24 hours before your reservation if you don’t want to be charged.

disney cruise palo reservation

Now that we’ve finished the technical stuff, let’s get to the general atmosphere of this place! Palo serves up northern Italian-inspired cuisine in a space that is filled with  Italian-inspired décor.

On the Dream and Fantasy, you’ll find that Palo features some wood paneling to add warmth to the space, coupled with all kinds of gold details.

disney cruise palo reservation

A Look Inside Palo

And keep an eye out for paintings throughout the restaurant that are inspired by the canals of Venice!

disney cruise palo reservation

See the Paintings?

Couple all of that with some spectacular views of the ocean and you’ve got a pretty fantastic place to eat. But you’re not here to just look around. You’re here to EAT right?! So let’s get on to the menu!

Palo serves dinner and brunch, but for this trip, we got to experience the brunch side of things. Palo used to be famous for its brunch buffet, but things have changed and it is more of a traditional sit-down experience now.

The menu includes an antipasti selection, along with eggs, soups, waffles and pancakes, pizzas, and entrees. Again, many of these feature an Italian flair, so you’ll find things on the menu like Lasagna Bolognese and Calzones, along with steak, fish, pasta, and more.

disney cruise palo reservation

And you can’t forget dessert! Dessert includes the option of some more chocolate-forward sweets, as well as a torte, panna cotta, and more.

disney cruise palo reservation

Dessert Menu

Keep in mind that menus can change, but these were the options we saw during our sailing in September of 2022. Now, let’s get to what we ate!

We started things off with some pastries and bread that were brought to the table. The pastries were great, but they were a bit boring in comparison to what comes next!

Still, we think these were very tasty pastries and we found it irresistible to nibble away on them as we waited for our next course.

disney cruise palo reservation

Pastries and Bread

Between the powdered sugar-covered sweets (we love a good sugar-melting-in-your-mouth moment) soft and flaky croissants, and fruit-topped pastries, we think most will be easily pleased by the selection.

But it wasn’t the most exciting thing we ate at Palo brunch.

disney cruise palo reservation

Tasty but Not Mind-Blowing

Next, we got the Antipasti Selection with a variety of meats . This featured sliced prosciutto, sliced coppa, sliced bresaola, salame gentile, marinated cerignola olives, roasted garlic, caciotta a tartufo, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and sweet pepperdew.

disney cruise palo reservation

Time to Dig In

This was probably one of the more exciting appetizers if you’re the type of person who goes to brunch seeking savory food. The meats, cheeses, and sauces were rich and wonderful.  One of the cheeses in particular was strong and delicious — we would have loved to have gotten more of it!

disney cruise palo reservation

A Closer Look

We also got to try the Antipasti Selection with seafood.  This one featured Jonah crab claw, lemon-marinated shrimp, marinated green lip mussels, spiced ahi tuna, gravlax served with Meyer lemon, saffron aioli, dill honey mustard, and cocktail sauce.

We really enjoyed this!

disney cruise palo reservation

Seafood Plate

It was great quality seafood simply done, and sometimes there’s nothing wrong with that! One of our reporters shared that they’d pick this over the more meat-focused antipasti because it felt more thematic to being on a cruise out at sea.

The shrimp and tuna were our favorites out of the bunch, but we did love that there were some crab claws included (even though they were a little more difficult to eat).

disney cruise palo reservation

Another Look

Next up, we tried the Celery Soup. It had spiced Italian sausage and focaccia croutons. This is another dish we really enjoyed. Don’t let the idea of celery soup scare you away if it’s a type of soup you’re not familiar with.

It was creamy and wonderful , and that Italian sausage really added to the soup’s flavor.

disney cruise palo reservation

Celery Soup

After the soup, it was time to dive into something sweet. We opted for a Mickey Waffle served with maple syrup, whipped cream, and mixed berries.

disney cruise palo reservation

Mickey Waffle!

This is a pretty sizable waffle, so that’s great! And while the base is a standard Mickey waffle in terms of flavor you do get to pick some special things to go with it. For our meal, we opted to get the Apple Cinnamon Waffles. Again, the waffle itself was just a standard waffle in terms of flavor, but the apple cinnamon came in the form of a fun topping.

The chance to have that topping was unique and different, which we really liked.

disney cruise palo reservation

The apple pieces were softened perfectly and had a great cinnamon flavor to them . Our one big complaint? We wish there was MORE sauce. The sauce underneath the apples was liquidy, which was fine but we would have liked MORE liquid underneath those apples to pour on our waffle.

We could have also probably used some vanilla ice cream to really take things to the next level. But overall, this was a great sweet option. It wasn’t the star of the show (at least in our opinion), but was tasty and totally hit the spot.

disney cruise palo reservation

Covered in the Topping

Next up, we had the Parmesan-Crusted   Chicken Breast. This is topped with San Marzano tomato basil sauce and mozzarella cheese and served with creamy Arborio rice risotto.

By the time you get to the main course, it’ll be a miracle if you have room in your stomach for something this big. But you’re on a cruise so you MAKE room! 😆  This dish at Palo has quite the fan following, and let’s just say that those fans aren’t wrong. The tomato basil sauce, coupled with the risotto and the chicken make this one spectacular dish!

Everything was so bright, flavorful, and delicious!  No one flavor felt overpowering. And it wasn’t overly salty or too chewy. This dish really impressed us and was one of those moments where we truly felt like we were experiencing the value of experienced chefs and fantastic ingredients.

disney cruise palo reservation

Our other reporter tried the Lasagna Bolognese . This is served with a Roma tomato sauce.  This was awesome!

It had great flavors all mixed together thanks to the meat, cheese, and tomato sauce. It all blended into one delicious, savory bite that melted in your mouth .

disney cruise palo reservation

And finally, wrapping up the savory part of our meal, we tried the Grilled Cut Sirloin Steak, served with thyme-herb butter, green beans, and Barolo wine potatoes.

This steak was fine but was on the boring side . It was well cooked and we did enjoy it, but it didn’t stand out in comparison to the other things we had.

disney cruise palo reservation

We would say that the steak, while good, is probably not the thing to order here, unless you are really craving a steak or are a picky eater and know the steak would be a safe choice for you.

disney cruise palo reservation

Then, we pushed ourselves to the limit to stuff even MORE food in our faces for dessert! First, we tried the Warm Amaretto Chocolate Fondant. This features double chocolate sauce, hazelnut gelato, and mocha chocolate soil.

disney cruise palo reservation

This dessert was rich and decadent! It was wonderfully warm, and we loved how well it paired with the hazelnut gelato. Warm chocolate + cold gelato = an unbeatable combo. We think this would be a fantastic dessert for anyone who loves chocolate!

disney cruise palo reservation

Well This Was Amazing

Finally, we ended things off with the Buttermilk Panna Cotta Pot. This had strawberry popping pearls and pistachio crumble. We have to give a lot of points to this dessert on presentation alone. The bright colors and chocolate details on top made it very visually appealing.

disney cruise palo reservation

The Panna Cotta

We also loved how light this was ! It was a wonderful choice after having such a heavy meal. It tasted so fresh and the popping pearls provided a fun sensory experience.

The pistachio crumble was really minimal , so it can be easily avoided if you hate pistachio. But, at the same time, it can be disappointingly minimal if you love pistachio. It seems more like a garnish than an integral part of the dish, so just bear that in mind.

disney cruise palo reservation

Panna Cotta

Overall, this was a great combination of light flavors, a little chocolate moment, beautiful colors, and a fun design.

Finally, let’s talk a bit about the drinks! There are some alcoholic drinks here that you can pay extra for , including a bloody mary, bellini, and more. We opted to get a mimosa with our meal.

disney cruise palo reservation

The mimosa was great, and we’d say it was better than your average mimosa. But it wasn’t something that stuck with us as being particularly extraordinary.

And that’s a wrap on our Palo Brunch experience. So is it worth the extra cost? Let’s go over some final thoughts.

Nosh or Not

Make a point to visit Palo for Brunch if:

  • You’re looking for a way to add something special to your cruise experience
  • You absolutely love brunch food and Italian-inspired eats (especially Chicken Parm!)
  • You’re celebrating a special occasion and want to do that in a sophisticated (yet relaxed) adults-only spot

Skip Palo Brunch if:

  • You are sticking to a tight cruise budget
  • You’d take a standard Mickey waffle, sausage, and basic scrambled eggs over fancier eats any day
  • You’ve got little ones who insist on tagging along with you everywhere

Overall, we really enjoyed our Palo Brunch experience. It was a LOT, we repeat — a LOT — of food, but for an additional $45 per person, that can be worth it (depending on your point of view). We really enjoyed the seafood and meat-focused appetizers, the Parmesan-Crusted Chicken Breast was DELICIOUS, and the Chocolate Fondant dessert we had is one that chocolate lovers won’t want to miss.

If you’re looking for a sophisticated (but not stuffy) spot to catch some awesome ocean views, enjoy a relaxing brunch, and get some great-quality food, we think Palo Brunch will check all your boxes . But make sure you try to get that reservation fast because things do fill up!

Thank you DFB for this detailed review, very helpful! Do you know, for someone who does not eat Carbs (I know, I know) do they allow us to order multiple plates of seafood, meats, and cheeses during brunch now? When it was buffet we used to take what we wanted. Are we now limited to 1 item per section of the menu?

You may have had this answered already. It is all you can eat on any and all. Want 2 plates of both Antipastas, no problem . Desert first, OK. Another soup after your entree. Literally, your wish is there command. Hope this helps.

Palo Dinner Review

palo-dinner-disney-magic-015

This Palo Review covers dinner on the Disney Magic. On this ship, Palo is an optional, adults-only fine dining restaurant featuring Northern Italian cuisine on Aft Deck 10. There are versions of Palo on each of the Disney Cruise Line ships, and it’s always located on the topmost aft deck. Palo offers picturesque ocean views from virtually everywhere in the restaurant. As an optional, adults-only fine dining experience, there is $25 per guest surcharge if guests make reservations for Palo.

While the other Disney Cruise Line restaurants on the Magic are each nice and have their own allure, the difference at Palo is apparent as soon as you arrive on Aft Deck 10. The entire area has a muted color scheme and looks elegant by comparison. This difference is apparent inside the restaurant, as well. While the other restaurants do a good job masking the fact that they are large, high-capacity eating areas, Palo feels quieter and more intimate.

For Walt Disney World veterans, here’s some perspective: Lumiere’s is like Be Our Guest Restaurant (large and loud–but nice) whereas Palo is like California Grill (smaller and nicer). In both cases, the analogies only extend to ambiance, and both Lumiere’s and Palo offer superior ambiance to their Walt Disney World analogues.

The difference in ambiance is also apparent in other guests at Palo. Not only are there no children, but Palo has a dress code that is strictly enforced. That means slacks/khakis and a collared shirt or sport coat for men, and the same (or a dress) for women. No flip flops, shorts, torn clothing, jeans, etc. If guests do not have appropriate attire, Palo has slacks and coats available, but I personally wouldn’t want to wear pants that have been worn by others.

Decor throughout the restaurant is elegant yet understated. There are masks at the entrance and vases with fresh-cut flowers in the restaurant, but otherwise, the elegant feel is mostly conveyed through color choice, upholstery, and the flowing, fluid design of the restaurant. It’s definitely more inviting than Victoria & Albert’s, but it’s still quite clearly a fine dining restaurant in terms of style and design.

Let’s take a look at the ambiance and decor of the restaurant…

palo-dinner-disney-magic-002

Before we discuss the particular dishes we ordered, let’s talk service. This is something we normally skip in Disney dining reviews because we feel that service is hit or miss, and not useful to readers since your experiences are likely to differ from ours. We are confident this is not the case with Palo. The service here at both of our meals was first-class all the way. Our server, Andrea, was superb. He was well-versed in the menu, made excellent recommendations, and was incredibly professional without being stuffy. (I’m sure everyone who eats at Palo thinks their server is the best; still, we highly recommend requesting Andrea if you dine at Palo on the Disney Magic.)

palo-dinner-disney-magic-014

Other members of the staff we encountered were also excellent, and Chef Silvio was also great. He was incredibly friendly with Sarah and me as we chatted during dinner and brunch. He ‘secretly’ gave me a fresh-cut rose to give to Sarah after dinner and at the end of the cruise left a ‘Magic Moment’ certificate for us outside our stateroom. While the cuisine was great, the service made the meal at Palo special.

We ate a lot at Palo (you’re not limited in how much you can order, and we have the stomachs of competitor eaters), so we’ll cover each item with relative brevity. We suspect the menu changes regularly (?) anyway, so reviews of specific items may not be all that useful to you, anyway. (I forgot to take photos of the menu, so I’m assuming the menu descriptions Disney lists are accurate.)

You’re probably going to get tired of words like “rich,” “flavorful,” and “decadent” but those are my three go-to words that pretty much encapsulate the experience at Palo. The presentation of each dish speaks for itself, and the complex flavors of each dish are difficult to articulate. Suffice to say, Palo is not your typical American-faux-Italian restaurant.

palo-dinner-disney-magic-003

This is the Palo Martini. It’s a mix of Absolut Pear, Limoncello, and some other stuff. It’s, as they say, the bomb. Disney Cruise Line has drink stations on the ship were you can get soft drinks, coffee, and other stuff. We’d pay a decent premium if they included this bad boy on the adult deck. Now that would get the party started! 😉

palo-dinner-disney-magic-001

The meal started with a bread course, but knowing that there were no limits on what else we could order, we only each had one piece. This took some restraint, as the breads and dipping sauces were excellent. Next, an antipasta cart was brought out to our table, and a plate consisting of prosciutto, bresaola, parmesan reggiano, marinated olives and sun-dried tomatoes was prepared for us. These starters were excellent–fresh and full of rich flavor.

palo-dinner-disney-magic-005

Next up were the appetizers. This is Grilled Portobello Mushroom and Polenta with a Roasted Shallot Sauce. We both love portobello, and this did not disappoint. The portobello was perfectly cooked and the polenta and the creamy shallot sauce made it absolutely decadent. Highly recommended.

palo-dinner-disney-magic-004

Here’s the Fritto di Calamari. You can never go wrong with calamari, which is always just varying degrees of delicious. The calamari here was tender and lightly breaded. If you like calamari, definitely order it.

palo-dinner-disney-magic-006

After the appetizers, our server brought out a palate cleanser.

palo-dinner-disney-magic-009

The Lobster and Mascarpone Ravioli was recommended by our server, and we’re glad we ordered it. There was ample lobster in this, and the flavors balanced perfectly. It’s a relatively small portion, but we think this is the perfect dish to order to share since it’s so rich. We can’t recommend this enough.

palo-dinner-disney-magic-007

The Tuna on a bed of Linguini Pasta with Artichokes and a Tarragon Veal jus was good, but it was the one item that didn’t knock our socks off. For tuna, I thought it had good flavor and it’d be a dish we’d recommend virtually anywhere else, but at Palo, there are better options. Next time we’d skip this and instead get the Beef Tenderloin.

palo-dinner-disney-magic-008

The Garlic Roasted Rack of Lamb Served with Barolo Roasted Shallots, Crunched Potatoes and Herb jus was the highlight of the meal. This is unquestionably the best lamb I’ve ever had, and in retrospect, we both wish we had each ordered our own. The garlic gave a perfect flavor to the lamb, which was a tender cut, perfectly cooked. We highly, highly recommend ordering this. (My mouth is watering as I type this.)

palo-dinner-disney-magic-012

Our server highly recommended the Chocolate Souffle, and it did not disappoint. It took 20 minutes to prepare, and was every bit worth it. The souffle came out hot, and the server poured vanilla and chocolate sauces into it when it arrived at the table. It was rich, but so good that we each could have had our own.

palo-dinner-disney-magic-011

Palo’s Homemade Tiramisu was another excellent dessert. It was light with a perfect texture and great taste. A bit unconventional for a tiramisu, I’d put it right up there with the souffle, even if the tiramisu doesn’t have nearly the same “status” as being a fan-favorite Palo dessert.

palo-dinner-disney-magic-010

I don’t recall the name of this dessert (it might be the Chocolate Amaretto Indulgence, but I don’t recall much of an Amaretto flavor), but it was a milk chocolate mousse topped with a cannoli in a gorgeous presentation. I really like this dessert as well, although Sarah indicated that she would have preferred dark chocolate.

Based on our research before the cruise, it appears that the champagne brunch that Palo offers during a day at sea is the more in-demand choice for cruisers than dinner. This could be because it has less capacity (dinner at Palo is offered nightly, versus days at sea for the brunch) or it could be because savvy cruisers realize that they’ll be missing a “free” meal at one of the rotational restaurants by doing Palo for dinner. While this logic makes sense, we highly recommend doing dinner at Palo.

We did both dinner and brunch, and while both experiences are phenomenal, we give the edge to dinner. It’s a more intimate, personalized experience, with your server spending more time with you. We also feel that the food is slightly better at dinner. Both brunch and dinner are foodie experiences, but there’s something to be said for solely prepared to order dining versus a mix of that and a buffet. This is absolutely no knock on brunch–spoiler–it will earn a 10/10 from us too, but the 10/10 that dinner is earning is a slightly ‘better’ one, if that makes sense.

If you’re going on a longer cruise, book Palo dinner after night 3. This ensures that you’ll have the full experience of your initial dining rotation (it’s our understanding that the Animator’s Palate show only occurs the first time you dine there). If you’re going on a short cruise, book it on a night when the Pirates party is not occurring. This is what we did, booking Palo for night one. When we got on-board and received our dining rotation card, we noticed that we were assigned Animator’s Palate on our Palo night. We went down to Dining Services to request a new rotation that began with Carioca’s, and we were accommodated. Our reason for this was that we’ve heard Carioca’s is the least impressive of the dining experiences, so that’s the one we wanted to miss. Although we can’t speak to the quality of Carioca’s (we’ll try it next time and report back), based on our experiences at Lumiere’s, Animator’s Palate, and Palo, we are confident that this was the right decision for us.

palo-dinner-disney-magic-013

Overall, Palo is the best Disney restaurant at which we’ve dined outside of Victoria & Albert’s . Some guests are likely to balk at the additional cost of Palo, especially given the opportunity to dine in a nice, no additional cost restaurant in its place. We fully believe that Palo is well worth the additional cost and highly recommend it for any couple looking for a romantic meal or foodies wanting a fine dining experience. Our total for the meal was just over $100 ($50 for the surcharge, plus drinks, and additional (optional) gratuity), and we feel it was well worth the added cost. Since it’s a fine dining experience highlighting sophisticated flavor and presentation, don’t be afraid to take your time at Palo and order an extra entree (or two), fully enjoying it for all it has to offer. The incredible service, atmosphere, and cuisine are all virtually unparalleled, and we now cannot imagine doing Disney Cruise Line without a meal at Palo.

Tom, we are about to embark on the Fantasy and booked Palo; unfortunately now it’s $40. Do you recommend the experience for that price?

We just booked a reservation at Palo for our upcoming cruise on the Wonder and the cost us $30 per person.

Just dined at Palo’s last Monday (1-9-2017) on the Disney Magic. Outstanding, and one of the most memorable moments of the cruise. I honestly had never eaten in such a fine restaurant before; excellent service and delicious cuisine. Just wonderful.

' src=

We just booked a Disney cruise this morning and I CANNOT wait to try all this food at Palo now! I love how you describe the food. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

If we have an early dinner reservation at Palo, can we still take our kids to late dinner at animators palette?

My husband and I went to Palo’s on the Disney Dream, on our wedding night it was amazing the food was fantastic and the service was perfect, the Booth where we were seated was a bit small for my dress but I’m sure with normal attire it would have been perfect. My only complaint was my drink was SUPER strong which I found has become a trend everywhere. Over all this is a must do when you cruise we are cruising agin in 2017 and I am booking a dinner for my dad to enjoy.

' src=

absolutely worth the extra $$. I was on the Disney Wonder in June. The food was beautiful and fabulous. Our servers in the dining rotation had advised us also to have the chocolate soufflé. It was heaven in a cup.

' src=

We had Andrea as well on our cruise in January. He was fantastic and made us feel like his only table. Palo is absolutely worth the $25 charge. I don’t think we will ever take a cruise without upgrading.

' src=

Just got back yesterday from an amazing Disney Magic 3 night cruise. I believe we too had Andrea from South Africa as our excellent server. He definitely steared us in the right direction when it came to all of our course choices. I have never had such wonderful service, and all of our choices were truly exceptionally tasting. The chocolate soufflé was to die for. If I am ever on the Magic again, I will make sure that Andrea is my server.

So glad you both liked the cruise! We’ve been on the Magic twice and Fantasy once and they are such fantastic trips. We’ve had brunch at Palo on both ships as well. It’s outstanding!!!! Can’t wait to read more of your ship reviews. The Fantasy was newer and bigger and we had a wonderful time, but we like the smaller scale of the Magic for some reason.

' src=

I really had no idea Disney Cruise Line was such an insane value. Eating at fine restaurants and staying at a nice disney hotel would cost significantly more for this level of service and quality (V+A can cost half as much as a full cruise does, and one night at the grand Floridian is almost the full cost of a 3 day cruise).

More tempted to try a cruise all the time! I wish the disney ships would come back to nyc

' src=

I think calling it an “insane value” would be a bit extreme. Relative to staying at a Deluxe WDW hotel, it’s a good value, especially if you can find a last-minute, offseason deal. However, as compared to other cruises, Disney Cruise Line is expensive.

' src=

Nice review. We had our first Palo meal during brunch on our Alaska cruise (on Tracy Arm Fjord day… talk about spectacular scenery for your meal) and we loved it. Service was a highlight for us as well, and our server would make a point to say hello to us when he saw us the rest of our cruise. We have yet to do dinner, it is just tough for us to give up the regular meals (which we also love). Maybe on our upcoming Eastern Caribbean.

One quick note – The animation shows in Animator’s Palate on the long cruises can vary depending on your ship and dining rotation. For example on the Fantasy & Magic 7 nights there are 2 “animation shows” with the 2nd one (“Animation Magic”) being the more impressive (over Turtle Talk with Crush on the first night). Unfortunately since you don’t know your dining rotation before check-in, booking Palo is kind of a shot in the dark if you want to make sure and catch the animation shows.

I can only imagine how awesome that view was during the meal at Palo!

Thanks for the tip about Animator’s Palate. I was under the impression that once your main rotation ended, the restaurant didn’t do the ‘show.’ Maybe that’s for something like a 5-night cruise, where not everyone will eat at Animator’s Palate twice. Anyone know for sure?

' src=

We did the brunch and dinner on our Hawaii cruise on the Wonder. Wonderful meals, and I agree that it’s up there with Victoria & Albert’s. I really want to go on the Dream or Fantasy so I can try Remy’s!

' src=

Thanks for the review, Tom! I sent this to my parents and my sister, and furthermore, Morgan and I are salivating looking at your excellent pictures. That martini looks incredible!

' src=

Palo on the Magic, is Magic! Try the Sea Bass, it is amazing. We have enjoyed Palo’s many time, we must have eaten here at least 20 times Dinner and Brunch. Enjoy!

Twenty times? Wow! You really are fans of Palo! 🙂

' src=

LOL. I meant the chocolate soufflé. I got so excited I types in the wrong name!

That restaurant is Bomb! We ate there twice last March on our cruise. I am not a big dessert person but that Creme Brûlée is out of control! And the service is best I’ve had at any Disney restaurant.

We didn’t try the creme brulee–wish we would’ve tried it! Actually, I’m not even sure it was on the menu during our visit…

' src=

WOW high praise here! I cannot wait to dine at Palo less than a month and I’ll be on the Disney Magic!!! I’m doing both Brunch and Dinner and will request Andrea for both meals because of your recommendation! I love the DCL things you’ve been posting I have not been to Tokyo but for me this is the best Disney experience Ive ever had and one of the best experiences ever Disney or not!

I have a couple of DCL trips this year and cannot wait to try Palo and Remy!

Also want to add I’m doing Yachtsman Steakhouse because of your recommendation too! I had a bad experience but I’m sure its a fluke! Riccardo is my waiter so I am very excited for all three upcoming experiences!

I forgot to add is “Overall, Palo is the best Disney restaurant at which we’ve dined outside of Victoria & Albert’s. ” including Magellan’s???

I should clarify–Magellan’s remains my favorite overall Disney dining experience, but that’s because of theme+service+cuisine, with an emphasis on theme. V&A’s and Palo (as well as a few other restaurants) are better in terms of cuisine alone. Magellan’s has very good cuisine, but it’s the design that pushes it over the top.

' src=

Great write up Tom! Everything you said is spot on. We did not do dinner on this cruise, but did brunch. Our server was Mo and was just as you would expect…fantastic. He saw us around the ship and on Castaway Cay the rest of the cruise and went out of his way to stop and talk to us each time.

We did dinner on the Dream on our last cruise, and I would give the edge to brunch. Now…this could be a result simply because it was the most recent experience, but on our next cruise, we will be booking brunch again, and then dinner if time allows. Cruisers that have never had the Palo experience…you will not be disappointed with either meal!

It’s a tough call, as both dinner and brunch are varying degrees of amazing. You really cannot go wrong either way.

I’m hoping at some point we do a cruise when sunset is later in the evening, so we can have a sunset dinner at Palo. Now that (I think) would be awesome.

Sunset is nice, but remember, as soon as the sun sets, you really can’t see out the windows anymore, so you lose the benefit of the view. I would plan dinner so that sunset is at the end of the meal so you can enjoy the view the entire time.

' src=

I highly recommend Palo on the Fantasy before sunset as they have outdoor seating. That is one experience that is not to be missed!!

Disney Wish Menus: PALO Steakhouse Brunch & Dinner

One of two adult exclusive restaurants located on Deck 12 AFT aboard the  Disney Wish ,  PALO Steakhouse  is an evolution of the Palo restaurant that Disney cruisers know and love, now combining the relaxed sophistication of authentic Italian dining with the classic refinement of a modern steakhouse in a genteel setting inspired by Cogsworth, the tale’s majordomo-turned- enchanted-clock.

Disney Wish PALO Steakhouse

An elegant, welcoming environment with spectacular ocean views off the back of the ship, the venue has been designed with a warm, luxurious palette of rich woods and shining metals, along with artwork and details that evoke ornate clocks, pendulums and gears. A private dining room will be available for more intimate gatherings of up to 12 guests.

I don’t think I noticed a price for the Palo brunch above.

' src=

The Palo Brunch is $45.00 per person. Enjoy 🙂

' src=

So what part(s) of the Palo menu are included when you book as a Platinum Castaway member?

' src=

Scott do you have already the list of beer and wine available at Palo Steakhouse?

' src=

I can’t believe they go « à la carte ». So long for the fixed priced

' src=

No Alaskan King Crab on the seafood antipasto?

' src=

For the Palo Brunch, do you select one item from each section of the menu?

' src=

During our cruise, you could order anything during brunch.

Our Ratings and Research

Disney Magic , Deck 10 Aft

Dinners at Palo are tasty and relaxing, especially with a glass or two of wine. That being said, we think Palo is better for brunch. Besides the best selection of mid-day food anywhere on the ship, the view out of Palo’s windows is much better during the day; once the sun sets at dinner, Palo’s spectacular windows just reflect the inside of the restaurant. If we could improve one thing at Palo, it would be the coffee served , which is Nescafé. A restaurant this good should offer better.

Note: An additional charge of around $40 per person charge will be added to your cruise bill for each meal at Palo. If you need to cancel a reservation, it must be done before 2:00 PM on the day of your reservation or the full per-person charge will be applied to your bill. Children are not permitted in Palo – guests must be 18 and up. If you can't get a reservation for Palo before you board, there'll be an opportunity to make reservations on the day you board. This is typically done in one of the main dining rooms, during the boarding process. Ask a member of the crew for the location when you board.

Setting and Atmosphere

Palo sits across the entire aft section of Deck 10, which means that almost every seat has a spectacular view of the ocean sunset during dinner. On the Magic, Palo has a contemporary décor, with tan wood panels, round, leather benches and deep purple fabric on the wood chairs. A small bar is available for guests waiting for their table to become available; part of the kitchen is open to the view of guests sitting in the middle of the restaurant too. Red and white striped poles near the bar are references to Palo’s roots in Venice.

Because Palo has an adult-only policy, the restaurant is much quieter than Disney’s main dining rooms. The most quiet tables are those on the port side, aft, tucked away behind the curve of the restaurant. If you’re looking to do some people-watching with dinner, request a table on the starboard side of the ship, near Palo’s entrance. Brunch offers open seating, so sit wherever the view is best. Background music is mostly Italian and ranges from Vivaldi to Sinatra, as God intended.

House Specialties

For dinner appetizers, try the fish-and-seafood soup, which comes with a large portion of mussels, clams and lobster. The antipasto freddo, with a selection of familiar cheeses and cured meats, could be a little more adventurous. Our favorite entrees are the lobster ravioli in a truffle-butter sauce, the spicy penne arrabbiata, and the rack of lamb, roasted with garlic and shallots. The chocolate soufflé is by far the most popular dessert, and comes with both dark and white chocolate sauces.

Palo’s brunch menu is the best on board. One large table is dedicated to selections of breads, muffins and pastries, along with sliced fruits and fresh vegetables (the roasted asparagus is tasty). An entire aquarium’s worth of fish is available in another section, including shrimp cocktail, cured salmon, smoked trout mousse, seared tuna, scallops, crab legs, crawfish and mussels. Eggs cooked in every conceivable way, including Benedict, Florentine, Julia and customized omelets, are on the menu. Not enough? A selection of made-to-order pizzas are available.

Review: Palo Dinner on Disney Magic Cruise Ship

By Author Ziggy Oskwarek

  • Pinterest 52

Palo is an Adults-Only Signature Dining Restaurant , and can be found on all of the 4 Disney Cruise Line ships : Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream, Disney Wonder and our ship the Disney Magic. In fact it’s the only Adults-only dining available on-board the Disney Magic.

It has amazing ambiance, themed after the Italian city of Venice, and naturally serves delicious Northern Italian Cuisine .  It also has the Best View on-board the Disney Magic, offering 270-degree  views of the sea.  Palo is open for both Dinner and Brunch (Only on Sea-days), and while both are absolutely amazing experiences (don’t worry I have a Palo Brunch Review in the works), for this review we are showing the Palo Dinner.

  • TIP: If you are undecided between Brunch or Dinner, I say do both!  But if you can only choose one then my choice would be for Dinner but only by the slightest of margins, it’s like choosing between your children, you can’t do it!

Being a Signature restaurant, Palo isn’t included in the price of your cruise like your regular dining rotation and comes with an added cost of $40 per person.   Don’t let that deter you, because it will be the best $40 you’ve ever spent in your entire life!  Just knowing that it costs less than a mediocre burger and drink at Planet Hollywood is really laughable.

  • TIP: Reservations are a must, and I would make them the very first day that reservations are made available for your cruise as it tends to fill up very fast (especially for Brunch).

Ok, let’s get right into it and I’ll show you why this is my favorite Disney Dining experience of all-time…

 Atmosphere:

Palo is located on the 10th Floor of the Disney Magic and you can get there either by elevator or by the stairs, which I recommend to try and burn all the extra calories you can before this meal!

Top of Stairs

I love the ambiance of Palo, it’s elegant and yet modern at the same time.  The huge circular lamps overhead which are made to look like marble are a signature of the Palo Design, as well as the illuminated wall panels.

I love how even though there are Palo restaurants on all 4 Disney Cruise Ships, each one is styled a bit different from the others.  Of all the ones I’ve seen, this one is my favorite!

Hallway outside of Palo

When you step into Palo you feel like you’ve been transported into another world.  The story behind Palo is an interesting one.  The Disney Magic Ship was constructed in Italy, half in the Marghera shipyard and half in Ancona.  Disney chose to give the Palo restaurants a Venetian theme as its way of saying thank you to Italy.   In fact the word “Palo” in Italian means: pole, which refers to the Gondola Poles present throughout the restaurant…get it now? 😉

Palo Entrance

Notice the gondola pole behind the reception desk?

Palo Reception Desk

Everything is designed so elegantly

Waiting Area

Ask you enter on the right you’ll notice a col collection of Venetian masks that are used to celebrate Carnivale in Venice:

Wall of Masks…

This one was particularly interesting to me:

Golden Mask

These guys are pretty funny too:

Red/White and Black/White Masks

Let’s continue to make our way through the restaurant…

Entrance and Waiting Area

Past the masks on the right you’ll find a beautiful display case filled with rare and expensive wines.

Palo has an amazing collection that is sure to satisfy the biggest wine connoisseur..

Wines in Display Case

These three particularly caught my eye..

More Wines on Display

After the wine case you’ll come into an open area where the restaurant starts making a curve.  That’s because it’s starting to wrap around the back of the boat.

Walkway in front of the Bar

Notice the lanterns , another tribute to Venice..

Glowing Lantern

Here’s the bar:

Definitely modern influences.  Really diggin the futuristic looking wine rack behind it!

Bar with Wines

Further down still you’ll find the Open-style kitchen .  A fantastic opportunity to watch the masters working at their craft:

Palo Open Kitchen

The Chef Salvatore was super nice, and come to find out he lived some time in Bergamo, Italy, where my wife is from!

The details of this place are really what I love.  These colorful ceiling lights remind me of the stained-glass that the island Murano off the coast of Venice is so famous for:

Awesome Light Fixtures

Here’s some funky artwork on display in the Palo Lobby…

Artwork Display Case

This was my favorite plate on display…

Also this was a cool touch, a map of the World of Disney built into one of the lamps.  Notice Disneyland, Disney World, and some of the Cruise Ships making their rounds.

Lantern Map

Here’s a close up of it:

  • TIP: Palo offers unprecedented 270-degree views of the surrounding sea, but try to get there around sunset for the best views .  That means take a look at the sunset time before making your reservation for the best experience.  If you come after it gets dark it will still be an awesome meal but it’s totally black outside and you won’t be be rewarded with something like this shot which I took on the deck right outside Palo:

This looks like a perfect table for 2 for you and your significant other…

Or maybe you like this one better:

Or a booth perhaps?

The Main Dining Room is actually quite big, even though it doesn’t seem like it at first:

And it wraps around to the other side:

Palo Dining Room Tables

We had a huge party of 16 people and they were so kind to specially arrange all our tables for us, like this special table in the center of Palo:

If you have a private party and are looking for some privacy, then the back room is for you:

I was absolutely floored when I saw the mosaic mural of Venice on the wall!

It’s so bright and colorful and represents the spirit of Venice well:

I’m amazed at how detailed it is!

Here’s a Video Walk Through of the Palo Restaurant on the Disney Magic:

I usually don’t make a whole section for the service of a restaurant, but before getting into our favorite part, the food, I wanted to point out that I’m not sure if I’ve ever been treated as good as we were during my Palo dinner review.  Everyone, starting with the Manager Felice , was top notch.  He went out of his way to help us with a reservation mix-up and was always smiling:

Palo Manager Felice

The Chef Salvatore was incredible also, coming to our table and chatting with us a bit, and explaining any food/dietary question we had!  He like many of the people working at Palo are Italian, so when he heard us speaking in Italian to him, he lit right up!

Palo Chef Salvatore

We also were grateful to have the BEST waiter in Palo serve us during our Palo dinner review, Ugo .  Thankfully he also followed us as our waiter when we returned for brunch a couple of days later.  He was incredible and made all the best suggestions for us and was there within a drop of a hat the whole night.  He cleaned our table in between each course throughout the night.  If you go, ask for Ugo, he’s amazing!

Our Waiter Ugo

The table settings are exquisite, love the roses set in the middle of the table:

Place Setting

These will be getting filled really soon….

Wine Glasses

Ok, enough chit-chat, bring on the food:

Plate and Silverware

As if Palo wasn’t impressing already, this is where the magic happens!  The beauty of Palo is the menu.  Yes you have to pay $40 per person , but you can try everything, you can literally every-single-thing on the menu if you want to, and we just about did!

The menu is Northern-Italian based , so while you will find classic Italian dishes from an American’s point of view, there are also some things you may have never tried before.

Palo Esperienza Del Vino Menu

For an additional $59 over the normal $40 price, you can try the Esperienza Del Vino (The Wine Experience), which pairs a 6-Course tasting menu with 6 different wines , perfectly matched up to each course.  It sounds amazing but honestly an extra $59 is a high price to pay for essentially the wines, so unless you plan on drinking a ton of wines with your meal it’s not worth the extra cost to me, the regular menu is just as spectacular and a lower price.

Let’s look at the regular menu now, starting with the Antipasti, Salads, and Soups .  You basically have 2 of each, first a Caprese Salad (mozzarella and tomatoes) and a Fresh Arugula Salad.  For soups there’s a Tuscan White Bean Soup, and for seafood lovers the Ciuppin Soup.

Next up the Pasta course.  There are 5 different pastas ranging from varieties of Ravioli, Penne with Shrimp, Pappardelle with Lobster or a Wild Mushroom Risotto.  For vegetarians there’s a Polenta with grilled Mushrooms and Spinach.

Fish is next and you can choose between Sea Scallops, Tuna Steak or Dover Sole.

And last but not least the Meat course where you have a choice of all your basics, Chicken, Rack of Lamb, Grilled Beef Tenderloin and a Milanese specialty: Osso Buco, which is a slow-roasted Veal shank with Milanese Risotto…my mouth is watering already!!

Of course Palo has an incredible Wine List , so we started off with a glass of the Montepulciano D’Abruzzo , not the most exquisite wine, but a nice solid dry red:

Glass of Montepulciano D’Abruzzo Wine

Next I ordered a Limone-Basilico (Lemon and Basil) Martini.   I love lemon-anything so this one which had Limoncello and a bit of mint shaken in there too, made it simple, refreshing and delicious!

Limone and Basilico Cocktail

Antipasti Course:

This Bread Basket was really good, with a mix of a few things: Grissini (bread sticks), a paper thin cracker-like bread, but the best was the focaccia, which had fresh herbs and oil on it!  I can’t fill up yet though, too much to try…

Bread Basket

Speaking of which, didn’t I tell you there was an Antipasti Cart that gets passed around BEFORE you even start eating anything from the menu??  It includes Roasted Peppers, Bresaola, Prosciutto di Parma, Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese (aged 24 months), Artichokes and a variety of Olives:

Palo Dinner Antipasti Cart

This thing is ridiculous!  Where do I start?  Everything was so good and complimented each other so well!  The Roasted Peppers are roasted in an oven with olive oil, garlic and rosemary, they were really good, you could really taste the grilled flavor to them!  The Artichokes were great, too, Ken isn’t even an artichoke guy and I couldn’t get him to stop eating them!

Antipasti Cart with Olives

My wife goes crazy for Olives , and these were outstanding, she was popping them in her mouth like candy!  I’m a big fan of both Bresaola and Prosciutto , and both were good, but to me the prosciutto was better this time.  Sweet, sliced really thin, it practically melts in your mouth!

Antipasti Plate

But my favorite thing about the antipasti was the CHEESE!  24-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano cheese is one of my favorites of all-time.  I recently toured a farm outside Parma where they make it, and it gave me a new appreciating for this marvelous creation!  It had a has a sharp, complex fruity/nutty taste together with a strong savory flavor and was smooth.

24-Month Aged Parmigiano Cheese and 8-Year Aged Balsamico

Top top it off, they poured Aceto Balsamico di Modena on top of it, which is not your normal salad version balsamico, but aged for 8 years , which gives it a thick complex texture and perfect to pair with cheese.  Wow do I love this stuff!!

Now that we were warmed up, our menu Antipasti started coming out.  First was the Tomato and Buffalo Mozzarella Caprese Salad –  w/Beefsteak Tomatoes, Buffalo Mozzarella, Basil, Virgin Olive Oil and Arugula:

Caprese and Tomato Salad

I can never say no to Buffalo Mozzarella, which in case you haven’t ever tried it before, it’s sweeter and creamier than your normal fresh mozzarella, and something you will never forget!  The ingredients are shipped fresh from Italy.  The tomatoes, which are blanched in hot water for a few seconds, I thought could have been more flavorful, but the buffalo mozzarella can’t be beat!

Next was my favorite from the antipasti, Soft Potato Gnocchi – Tossed in Piennolo Tomato Sauce, garnished with Kale and caramelized Grape Tomatoes:

Soft Potato Gnocchi

These were so tender and light, like little pillows of heaven melting in your mouth.  The tomatoes used in the sauce come from Piennolo which make them sweet.  They are made-in-house and the small portion is great for tasting!

Next we had the Ciuppin Soup – Mussels, Shrimp, Calamari, Red Mullet and Monkfish poached in a Garlic Basil, White Wine Tomato Broth:

Ciuppin Soup

This was very, very good, and had a little kick to it.  It had a real nice mix of seafood inside which was very flavorful and light.  Fish was tender and cooked perfectly, really liked it a lot!

This next one was hard to beat though, Fritto di Calamari e Gamberi – Deep-fried Shrimp and Calamari with Lemon-Garlic  Mayonnaise and Marinara dippings :

Calamari and Shrimp Fritti

To be quite honest I don’t even like calamari usually, but this was out-of-control good!  Wasn’t chewy or rubbery as calamari tends to be, but it just fell apart on the inside, and the shrimp were some of the best I’ve ever had!  The seafood is soaked overnight in buttermilk, that way it’s crisp on the outside and tender inside.  It’s not heavy tasting either like fried food sometimes is.

Our waiter Ugo admitted to us it’s not easy finding a fried seafood plate this good, even in Italy!

Pasta Course:

I could eat pasta everyday, which is easy to do in Italy, so I couldn’t wait to see what creations Chef Salvatore had in store for us!  First up was the Caramelle di Vitello (translated: Veal Candies) – Pasta stuffed with Milk braised Veal, Pancetta and Porcini Mushrooms :

Caramelle di Vitello

I listed these first because even though they were good, they were my least favorite of the night.  They are made-in-house like the Gnocchi, but they were just lacking something that I can’t put my finger on.  They were a bit bitter and just didn’t wow me, which was about the only thing all night that didn’t.

Next were the Pappardelle con Aragosta (Lobster) – Pappardelle Pasta tossed in Lobster Tarragon Sauce with Leeks, White Truffle Oil and Grilled Lobster .

Pappardelle with Lobster

These were also made-in-house and very fresh tasting.  Pappardelle is an egg-pasta that’s like Fettuccine but a bit wider.  These were sooo good!  The sauce, which had a distinct lobster taste was just plain mind-blowing!  Not heavy at all.  The Lobster Tail on top was super tender.  My Dad and Jesse’s favorite pasta dish!

Next was Butternut Agnolotti (Butternut Squash Ravioli) – with Sage-brown Butter topped with Amaretti and Buffalo Mozzarella:

Butternut Agnolotti

This is probably my wife’s favorite kind of pasta of all time, and she gave it a big stamp of approval!  They were flavorful and the butternut was a nice compliment to the pasta.  Sweet and savory, but not too rich.  Just the right size portion, otherwise it might be too much.  The amaretto wasn’t overpowering either but just right.  These were too perfect to even say anything else!

Lastly for the Pastas was the Pennette Pasta – Tossed in a spiced San Marzano Basil Sauce topped with Garlic Shrimp:

Pennette Pasta with Shrimp

Imo nothing beats a good Pasta al Pomodora, and this was outstanding, and my mother and I’s favorite pasta of the night!  The sauce was spicy, and the tomatoes were very fresh, and there was lots of basil inside!  I can’t tell you how good this sauce was!  Pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, and there were two GIANT shrimp on top, look at this thing:

Shrimp close-up

It was a HUGE portion too, and could easily fill up a normal person just eating that, but we pushed on ahead!  😉  Awesome choice!

All in all the pastas dishes were excellent, so many rich and unique flavors you don’t get often.  Many of them were also very filling and something that under normal circumstances would probably fill you up, but a Palo dinner is anything but normal! 😉

Again I couldn’t get over how great the service was, our waiter was attentive to our every need.  A nice touch was the Lemon Sorbet to cleanse the palate in between the Pasta course and the Fish and Meat courses.  It was a great sorbet, very refreshing and just what we needed!

Lemon Sorbet

Fish Course:

By this point the girls were starting to get cold feet continuing the meal, so the men had to take over some!  Next were the Sea Scallops – Celery Root Purée, baby Vegetables and crispy Leeks served with a Prosecco and Black Tuffle Sauce :

Sea Scallops

I’m a sucker for scallops and if it’s on the menu there’s a good chance I’m getting it, these were ecceptional!  4 perfectly seared scallops which were so juicy and tender inside, they cut easily with the butt of the fork.  The Prosecco and Black Truffle reduction give just a hint of acidity to the dish.  Awesome choice here!

We couldn’t not order the Marinated Big Eyed Tuna Steak either .  It came with with Green Beans, Roasted New Potatoes, Quail Eggs, Cerignola Olives and White Balsamic:

After a lot of flavors, the tuna was perfect because it was so light, just slightly seared on the outside.  Pink on the inside, very meaty, and not fishy at all…like eating a very tender steak.  The green olives with the tuna are form the southern Italy.  The soft boiled quail eggs had an interesting texture, liquidy on the inside.  Not really my thing, but the tuna itself shined!

Meat Course:

Coming down to the homestretch there was this beautiful Grilled Beef Tenderloin Steak – with Pancetta Potato, Sautéed Spinach, Gorgonzola Cheese Sauce :

Grilled Beef Tenderloin

Basically take a super tender and flavorful filet and smother it with Gorgonzola cheese….yeah just keep imagining that right there!  Gorgonzola has a particular taste, but it matched up really well with the steak, it was real creamy!!  Steak itself was really really tender, one of the most so I’ve ever eaten.  The whole thing just melted in your mouth.  Just think my wife was stuffed, and yet continued to take bite after bite, because she just couldn’t stop!  Awesome!

Roasted Rosemary-rubbed Rack of Lamb – with Roasted Carrots, Caponata, Olive Oil Potatoes, Rosemary Jus on the side :

Rack of Lamb

I’m not a huge lamb guy, although I’ve been trying it quite a bit lately in a few places, and this was really exceptional!  It didn’t taste “gamey” at all, I would have thought it was beef.  An interesting point that Ugo told us is that in Italy the lamb is really “gamey” and they leave it overnight soaking in wine to get rid of that taste, with this one however didn’t need to do it at all.  It was really tender, and can get it with or without the Wine Reduction Sauce:

Rack of Lamb w/ Sauce

I preferred with with the sauce as I thought it really complimented the meat.  It’s also very filling as they give you two big pieces, that by this point in the night seemed to me like the whole lamb! hahaha.  Veggies were ok, but the star was the meat itself!

Dessert Course:

At this point we were already 3 Hours into our experience and we were searching deep down for any last bit of space inside for dessert.  We were thinking something light, but then the waiters surprised us and brought us every-single dessert on the menu!  You should have seen the expressions on everyone’s face, half joy and half terror, trying to figure out how we could possibly do it!  Don’t worry, I found a way!

Palo Dessert Menu

Gelato Tasting – Caramel Macadamia Nut, Double Chocolate, Mango Mint, White Chocolate Espresso and Mixed Berry:

Sampler of Gelato

What can you really say that explains how good homemade gelato is?  Take your best U.S. made Ice Cream, make it creamier and double the tastiness.  These were really good too.  Personally I’m not an espresso or mint guy, so the others gobbled those down, but my favorites were the Caramel Macadamia Nut and Mixed Berry.  Two polar opposites but just so smooth and flavorful, perfect to wash down that huge meal!

Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta: – with Strawberry-Basil Sorbet, Raspberry with Crumble :

Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta

Panna Cotta is cocked cream, which I promise you is much better than it sounds.  This one had a strong vanilla flavor which was great.  Just the right consistency too!  The accompaniments weren’t my favorite, but if you like panna cotta it’s a good choice.

Warm Orange Almond Cake – Orange Fennel Salad with Rhubarb Puree and lemon Cream :

Orange Almond Cake

This was a good choice.  It was very tasty and had a soft inside, not dry at all, but a bit crunchy.  Good texture.  There was an almost subtle almond flavor and the strawberries were an excellent compliment.  Good but still didn’t “wow” me…

Sugar-Free Apple Crostata – with Salted Caramel, Braised Cinnamon Apples, and Whipped Cream:

Apple Crostata

While I normally don’t go for sugar-free desserts, I have to say this was really good.  The apples were soaked in cidar, and they were sweet themselves, so no need for added sugar.  It had a nice texture and a really nice apple flavor.  I recommend this for sure.

Palo’s Homemade Tiramisu – layered Coffee-infused Ladyfingers with Italian Mascarpone Cheese:

If you are a Tiramisu fan then watch out, you are going to be in your happy place when you take your first bite!  Not a strong coffee flavor, and that mascarpone….wow, so creamy!!  An exceptional dessert!

Things really started to get good when I saw my Lemon dessert arrive!!  Lemoncello Tart – Served in an Almond Crust, topped with Yogurt Cream and Carmel :

Limoncello Tart

Yeah you read it right, not just lemon, but lemoncello!!  I’m really picky about my lemon desserts, but the lemon here was one of the best ever..no joke!  It was really light and creamy, and though I was ready to explode at this point, I couldn’t let go of the fork.  Too good…..

But wait, there’s more….

At this point we were working on close to 4 hours at Palo, but I saved the best for last!  We were super happy with the desserts we’d tried, but there is 1 for which Palo is famous: its Souffle!   It just so happens that during our stay there were 2 flavors available: the traditional Chocolate and also Amaretto , both served with Vanilla Bean and Chocolate Sauces.  Without even asking you already know what we ordered…both! 😉

These are specially made and you have to allow 20 minutes for their preparation, so put in your order early if you are in a hurry.   The buzz around these was almost too much to bear, there’s no way they could live up to the hype!  My eyes just about fell out of my head when they arrived!

Amaretto Souffle – with Vanilla and chocolate Sauces:

Amaretto Souffle

The presentation on these thing is really incredible.  Once they arrived you could smell the aroma pouring out of them and filling the air, almost intoxicating.  We skipped the stage show on-board that night, but were more than entertained just watching these be delivered to our table!

Chocolate Souffle – with Vanilla and Chocolate Sauces:

Chocolate Souffle w/Sauces

The presentation is clean, Souffle and two little cups of the Vanilla and Chocolate Sauces…

Chocolate Souffle Close

A crunchy layer of chocolate on top covers the souffle and what happens next will blow your mind…

Chocolate Souffle being poured

Seeing the sauces being poured into the piping hot souffle and mixing together to form an indestructible team of flavor is a thing of beauty!!  This thing was sooooo delicious!!  My already full stomach was telling my brain not to eat, but my eyes had already fallen head-over-heels and didn’t listen.  It’s such a rich and creamy dessert, and truly a chocolate lover’s dream come true!

This is heaven….Chocolate Souffle Overflowing

I preferred the Chocolate Souffle over the Amaretto one, but both were outstanding!  This is an absolute MUST TRY for anyone dining at Palo!!

Lastly as the Italians do, we were given a digestive to wash down our meal, this was a Sgroppino Veneziano – basically it’s Prosecco and Lemon Sorbet Apple Brandy mixed together.  Delicious, and a fantastic finish to our meal!

Sgroppino Veneziano

Everything was completely amazing!  The atmosphere was incredible, you can’t beat the views you get at Palo, especially if you come before the sunset!

The service was 100% top notch, from the manager, to the chef and right down to our waiter, everything we asked for we were brought and they made sure to give us a truly magical experience!

And everything we ordered from the amazing Antipasti Cart (that was so long ago, did we really eat that?), to the appeitzers, Pasta, Fish, Meat, and Desserts were all 5-Star quality , prepared fresh.  If you like food you will like Palo!  The highlights for me were the Gnocchi so light and fluffy.  The Fried Calamari was possibly the best I’ve ever had in my life.  Basically every Pasta was incredible .  The Seared Scallops , the Beef Tenderloin smothered in Gorgonzola Sauce and Lamb were all incredible.  And if you are a chocolate lover, your life’s mission will be complete when you try the Palo Souffle!

Overall our experience during our Palo Dinner review was one of the best dining moments of my entire life!  I can’t say one thing negative about it because it blew away all my high expectations going in.  If you don’t try Palo while on your Disney Cruise vacation, then you are making one of the biggest mistakes of your life!

Palo Dinner vs Palo Brunch?

Honestly both experiences are out-of-this-world and if I were you, I would definitely make it a point to try both.  no-where else in the Western Hemisphere can you enjoy a truly 5-Star experience for $40.  That said if forced to choose I lean slightly toward the Dinner.   The atmosphere is a bit more romantic, with the sunset.  You don’t have to worry about hurrying up and going to some other activity after your meal.  Also I just liked the overall choices a little more for dinner than brunch.  But again, you have to try both imo and decide for yourself as our group was split down the middle of this arguement!

Ziggy Knows Disney close

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.

The best $50 you can spend on board a Disney cruise

Summer Hull

Would you be surprised if I told you one of my favorite fancy meals on earth is only $50 per person? Yes, I know $50 isn't cheap, but for a multi-course, white tablecloth, fine-dining experience, it's also far from expensive.

Would you also be shocked to discover that you can only get this meal on a cruise ship dedicated to kids?

It's true. The venue is Palo, the adults-only Italian restaurant found on each of Disney Cruise Line 's five ships. Its all-you-can-eat brunch and prix fixe dinner each cost $50 (before drinks and gratuities).

The high quality of Palo's menu and dishes is in keeping with Disney's rigorous standards, and you might assume that all Disney experiences come with a high price tag. However, in the case of Palo, you get excellence without the sticker shock. (To be fair, you have to pay a pretty penny to get on board a Disney cruise ship — the only way to sample Palo's delicious fare.)

To dine at Palo, you must make a reservation, dress up a bit and leave the kids behind in the ships' included kids clubs. That combination elevates the ambiance compared to the other 97% of the ship, where the atmosphere is more casual and family-friendly.

After sailing on several Disney cruise ships and dining at Palo a few times, I'm confident that a meal at Palo is the best $50 you can spend on a Disney cruise.

Brunch at Palo

While I've had dinner at Palo a couple of times, I tried the Palo brunch for the first time on my most recent sailing aboard Disney Magic. Though brunch is not a buffet, the $50 price gets you anything on the menu — and as much as you want to try. Just order everything one plate at a time from your waiter.

The brunch menu is a culinary jackpot of omelets, frittatas, waffles, flatbreads, crab claws, shrimp, ravioli, steak, snapper and more. You can start with breakfast, skip to lunch and go back and finish with more breakfast — or enjoy whatever you want in any order.

disney cruise palo reservation

You can start with a welcome mimosa if you desire, as that's included in the price. If you want more than one glass, each additional cocktail costs just $5. Did I mention there's a whole dessert menu, too?

I tried as many things as humanly possible and took almost every recommendation the server gave me during my 90 minutes of dining delight.

The standout items for me included some nibbles from the bread basket, which was frankly too indulgent to ignore completely.

The seafood antipasti with crab claw, ahi tuna, shrimp and dill honey mustard was a fresh, light counter to some of the heavier items that made their way to my place setting.

The wild mushroom ravioli with its nut brown butter and toasted pine nuts was absolutely heavenly and not to miss, even though it was barely 10 a.m.

The parmesan-crusted chicken breast with its tomato-basil sauce and mozzarella cheese was unlawfully flavorful and delicious and also worth sampling no matter the time of day.

disney cruise palo reservation

I was too full by this point to fully appreciate the flatbread, but there's no denying it's a winner if you can find the stomach space for a slice. Next time I'll try the one with goat cheese and sun-dried tomato.

After all that indulgence, the dessert menu felt like a trap, but one that I gleefully fell into. I wanted to appear at least a little reasonable, so I only ordered one treat — the warm amaretto chocolate fondant with hazelnut gelato and mocha chocolate soil.

disney cruise palo reservation

The mixture of temperature and texture (and chocolate) was too good to have just one bite, so even though stomach space was at a premium, I enjoyed as much of the dessert as I could.

Ninety minutes, a decadent bread basket, five ordered plates and a dessert later, it was time to rejoin my kids. I said goodbye (for now) to this special experience on the ship with two certain truths. First, I needed to change into my stretchy pants ASAP. And second, I had certainly gotten more than $50 worth out of this meal.

Palo dinner

While brunch at Palo is fun and indulgent, dinner at Palo feels extra special and upscale — especially if you are there as the sun slips below the horizon on another day at sea. After a day spent stuffing your face at the all-you-can-enjoy soft serve machine with your kids and doing the waterslides on repeat, the calm, upscale nature of Palo in the evening transports you to a world seemingly far away from the rest of the ship.

disney cruise palo reservation

In fairness, dinner at Palo can cost more than $50. As an alternative to the four-course "prezzo fisso" menu, you can dive into the a la carte menu options. Choosing your favorites from the menu is still an affordable option, with sides starting from $4, salads and other starters from $7, pizza and pasta from $12 and entrees starting from $15.

Either route you take, any beverages you care to enjoy, as well as staff gratuities, will be additional.

disney cruise palo reservation

If you aren't sure where to start, the $50 four-course menu features many of my favorites, such as the tomato and mozzarella caprese, pan-seared salmon and the absolutely-under-any-circumstances-do-not-miss chocolate souffle.

The beauty of the a la carte menu — in addition to simply having more choices — is you can indulge as much or as little as you wish. If you want to try just the pizza and baby arugula salad, you can. If you want to create your own multi-course masterpiece, you can do that, too. If Wagyu steak is on your list of favorites, you can enjoy six ounces starting at just $20, which isn't bad as far as Wagyu goes.

disney cruise palo reservation

Expect a multi-course dinner at Palo to be close to a two-hour affair, which I'd say is an excellent use of your $50 (plus tip). Consider that a child's Bibbidi-Bobbidi Boutique hair, makeup and dress makeover costs $180-plus, most massages start close to $200, and an onboard beverage tasting is typically in the $40 to $50 range, and it's clear that dinner at Palo is a comparative steal by comparison.

Bottom line

Most of the sit-down dinner restaurants on Disney (even the Marvel and Frozen-themed ones ) are included in the price of your cruise, so it can feel silly to book one that costs extra.

However, while the included restaurants are generally well done and absolutely worth experiencing, they are serving hundreds of guests at a time. The venues can get loud and simply can't provide the same experience you'll find in a more intimate and peaceful space with high-end food and no kids allowed. The $50 price tag certainly isn't too much to ask for all that.

If you want to dine at Palo, make a reservation as soon as you are eligible, which is 75 to 120 days before your cruise, depending on your Castaway Club status level and whether you are sailing in a concierge cabin .

I can assure you that brunch or dinner at Palo is the best $50 you can spend with Disney while at sea. It's such a refined (but still comfortable and not stuffy) place to enjoy one of the best meals of your life. Your only regret will not be having more room in your belly for more than one chocolate souffle.

Palo Dinner Menu – What You Must Know Updated

Sharing is caring!

If you are looking for an exceptional Disney Cruise dining experience look no further than the Palo Dinner Menu.

You will find the Palo restaurant on every Disney Cruise Ship. This adults-only restaurant offers Brunch and Dinner for an additional charge.

I have been fortunate to dine there many times and so have lots of pictures, and tips for those of you who are undecided about whether you should book a Palo dinner.

disneypalotable

The Disney Palo Dinner menu is the same on each of the ships. So the Disney Dream Palo Dinner menu will be identical to that of the Disney Wonder, Fantasy, and Magic.

However, the layout of the restaurant is not the same on all the different ships.

The Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder classic ships have the same design, with Palo located on Deck 11 aft. The Disney Dream and Fantasy Palo have the same design and are located on Deck 12 aft.

disneypalodinner

Disney Wish has Palo Steakhouse with many of the same dishes on the menu but more of an enphasis on the a la carte menu on steak offerings.

How much does the Disney Palo Dinner cost? There is a $50 charge per person. This does not include tax or gratuity.

This $50 is for the Fixed Menu.

Note that for the Australia and New Zealand sailings the charge is $60 as this includes the tip.

There is also an a la carte Palo Menu.

Although you could very well eat just in the Disney Cruise Rotational Dining Restaurants I really would suggest that you dine at Palo at least once on your cruise.

palodisney

The food and service are exceptional and, for me and most others, fully justify the extra cost for Disney cruise adult guests.

I will admit that the one thing which never makes me think twice about booking a Disney Palo dinner, is that I really really enjoy the Disney Cruise main dining restaurants. I

t can be a difficult choice.

You really need to schedule your Disney Palo dinner booking before you embark on your Disney Cruise .

disneycruisetipscalculator

You can do this online in your Disney Cruise personalizer.

How far ahead you can do this depends upon your Disney Castaway Club status, or if you have booked Concierge Staterooms.

  • First-time Guest – 75 days prior to the sail date
  • Silver Castaway – 90 days prior to the sail date
  • Gold Castaway – 105 days prior to the sail date
  • Platinum Castaway – 120 days prior to the sail date

The only category which takes priority over Platinum Castaway members is those who are sailing in a Concierge stateroom.

All requests for activities are sent to the Concierge 5 days prior to Platinum members being able to request them.

The activities are released on the same day, but in reality, Concierge will have priority over Platinum.

Prior to sailing, you can only book one Disney Palo Dinner.

The only exception to this is if you book the first night of your cruise for Dinner at Palo, you can also book an additional dinner online.

This is to give guests an incentive to book on the first night as this is the quietest night.

What If You Can’t Get Palo Reservations Online?

I know a lot of people get very stressed about this! Sometimes, by the time you can go online to book your activities, there are no more reservations available for Palo Dinner.

However, do not worry!

You are highly likely to get a reservation for dinner at Palo.

Only a limited amount of reservations are released online.

Many reservations are kept back and are only available once you board.

Disneycruisepalodecor

So what do you do to get a reservation onboard? On Embarkation Day you will be given a copy of the printed Navigators before you board the ship.

This will show you where the dining team will be available as soon as you board so that you can go and personally make a reservation.

You can also call the Palo reservation desk from your stateroom.

On the first day, however, I would advise you to go straight to the dining team, so that you have the best chance of getting your preferred time and day for dinner.

The original Disney Magic and Disney Wonder have the same layout and atmosphere. There are some differences in decor but the overall feeling is the same.

Both the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder were built in Italy – and so came the inspiration for this adult-only Disney Cruise restaurant.

Why is it called Palo?

This is the name of the poles that line the canals in Venice, Italy.

You will see many design touches that honor the Italian tradition, such as the Venetian Masks and Morano Glass.

disneypalodecor

The wine list in all of the Palo Disney Ships Restaurants highlights the wonderful wine of Italy.

The décor and food of the Palo restaurant are inspired by Italy, the birthplace of both Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.

Palo takes its name from the poles that line the canals of Venice. Palo’s extensive reserve wine list features selections of Italian Sassicaia, Ornellaia, and Tignanello.

Idisneycruisepalodinner

Many of the servers are also from Italy – take some time to talk to them about their native homeland and you will always be rewarded with excellent conversation.

The servers on Disney Cruise Lines are exceptional – and those in Palo are very knowledgeable about the food and wine that the restaurant has to offer.

disneycruisepalo

One big difference that Disney Wonder and Magic have from the newer ships, is that Palo has an open kitchen.

I actually prefer this design – it can be fun watching the chefs at work!

DisneyPaloWonder

I love the Venetian mosaic on the wall in Disney Wonder Palo. Take some time to look around the Palo restaurant so you take in all the amazing decor and design.

The Disney Palo restaurant on Disney Wonder and Magic is not that big. There are some booths but most are tables.

disneywonderpalobest seats

Always ask when you check in a Palo if you have a seating preference.

Or ideally, as soon as you board call them and let them know – or even have it noted on your Disney Cruise Reservation.

The absolute priority of everyone on the Disney Cruise Crew is making you happy. If they can possibly make it happen, they will.

The layout and design of Palo on Disney Dream and Fantasy are the same.

Located on Deck 12, Palo is a lot larger than on the Classic Disney ships – to reflect the increased number of guests on the bigger ships.

The decor is similar in style to the Disney Magic and Wonder but has more rich tones and darker woods.

Disney Fantasy Palo

From the moment you are welcomed into the Disney Palo restaurant, you feel at home.

The servers are amazing and will do their best to make sure you have an amazing dining experience.

Disney Fantasy Palo reataurant

Although the booths are nice. the best tables are by the window.

Disney Fantasy Palo

You can always request a window seat and the Palo servers will do whatever they can to accommodate your request.

disneycruisepalo

The perfect time to dine in Palo for dinner is just before sunset. It is just so romantic to watch the sun go down whilst enjoying the amazing Palo food and service.

One difference on Disney Fantasy and Dream is that on the Classic Ships, Palo is on its own and has its own bar within the restaurant.

However. on the Fantasy and Dream, Palo is on the same deck as the amazing Remy restaurant. In between Remy and Palo on these ships is the Meridian Bar.

This is a great place to have a pre-dinner drink.

Disney Fantasy Meridian Bar

There is also an outside area that is very little used on the Meridian Bar.

You do not have to be dining at either Palo or Remy to go to the Meridian Bar. It is one of the lesser-known bars on the Disney Dream ships and can be a great place to relax whether or not you are dining. Particularly on a nice evening when you can sit outside.

Disney Fantasy Meridian Bar

You can even choose to have your Disney Cruise wedding outside on the Meridian Bar patio.

Signature Cocktails start at $12. Wine and Champagne start at $8.75 a glass.

It is important that you know and stick to the Disney Palo Dress Code. They do enforce it.

Yes, you can go back to your stateroom and change, but really you don’t want to have to do that!

Disney Fantasy Palo dinner

The Palo Dress Code is the same for Brunch and Dinner. However, people do tend to dress up more for Dinner than Brunch.

During brunch and dessert, the following dress code is enforced:

  • Men: dress pants or slacks and collared shirt; jacket is optional
  • Women: dress, skirt or pants with a blouse
  • Jeans may be worn if in good condition (no holes)

This is the official word from the Disney Cruise Website

So now you know the requirements, but what do people actually wear to Palo? Well as you can see from some of the photos here – it varies.

You aren’t very likely to see anyone in a full-length gown, but you could wear one if you wanted.

Probably about half of the men wear jackets, but again it really is optional.

The other Disney Cruise Ship restaurants have different requirements, you can check these at Disney Cruise Ship Dress Codes

Whatever your personal tastes for food for dinner you really will find something that you enjoy on the Disney Palo Dinner menu.

disneypalodinnermenus

The servers in Palo are amongst the very best on any Disney Ship. Let them help you choose from the menu. They have extensive knowledge of all the dishes and want you to enjoy your experience.

Here are pictures of the Disney Palo Dinner Menu.

disney cruise palo menu

Even though I have just shown you the menu, what I do want to say is that if you have any special dietary needs let your server know.

You can also do this ahead of time when you book your Disney Palo Dinner reservation online before your cruise.

The first course of your Palo Dinner is the antipasti. Your server will bring the selection around for you to choose what you want. The flavors are amazing.

disneypalostarter

DH chose the Fresh Arugula Salad.

The ingredients were of high quality, particularly the Parmesan.

However, the tomato was disappointing and didn’t have much flavor.

Disneypalosalad

The Soft Potato Gnocchi was fabulous.

The tomato sauce was really tasty. It was also just the right-sized portion for an appetizer.

disneypaloappetizer

We couldn’t decide on Appetizers so our wonderful Server brought this Ciuppin Soup out for us to share.

I would highly recommend this if you love seafood.

disneypalosoup

The Sorbet is intended to cleanse the palate for the next course. Not sure if it did that but it tasted great anyway!

disneycruisepalosorbet

DH chose the Rack of Lamb and said it was one of the best he had ever had.

disneycruisepaloentree

I had the Sea Scallops and really enjoyed them.

disney palo sea scallops

As we couldn’t decide on dessert either our Server brought 3 out!

disneypalosouffle

As the finale, we were given this drink on the house. Delicious!

disneypalo

There is an excellent choice of wines for you to enjoy with your dinner at Palo.

diseypalowinelist

Here is a closer look at the Disney Palo Wine menu with the Rose and White Wine choices.

disneypalowinemenu

If you have purchased the Disney Wine Package you can also use this when you are dining in Palo.

How does the Disney Wine Package work?

You can purchase a package of 3, 4, 5 or 7 bottles of wine to enjoy on your Disney cruise.

You have a choice between the Classic Package and the higher-priced Premium Package.

disneywinepackageprices

Each night of your cruise you can choose a bottle of wine until you have had your allocated number of bottles. If you do not finish the bottle, your server will save it for you.

You will be asked the next day at dinner whether you want to open a new bottle or have the saved bottle. The system is very efficient. If you didn’t finish your bottle the day before it will be brought to Palo for your dinner.

You can also buy individual bottles of wine and it will be saved for you in the same way.

If you bring your own bottle of wine to Palo there is a $25 corkage charge.

Remember that Disney has a generous alcohol policy of allowing each guest over 21 to bring 2 bottles of wine onboard.

paloeggsbenedictrecipe

This is a question that I get asked a lot!

The answer is, rather unhelpful, it depends.

I prefer Brunch.

The only disadvantage to Brunch for me is that it is a ridiculous amount of food at a time of day when you really probably should not be indulging.

However, you are on a Disney Cruise so you can indulge!

If you want to read more about this go to Disney Palo Brunch or Dinner?

The Palo Dinner experience is also wonderful. It is a little more formal – but not stiflingly so.

Just the right balance of being able to dress up a bit, and enjoy amazing food and service, but not be worried that you are going to use the wrong fork for something!

disneypalobrunch

Another reason I sometimes don’t book a Palo dinner is simply that I enjoy the rotational dining restaurants so much.

I don’t want to miss that experience or spend time away from the servers.

If I book dinner I usually book it for Pirate Night. The reason? I do not particularly like the Pirate Night Dinner Menu!

Whichever you choose, or even do both, you will have an amazing experience at Palo.

Prior to Covid, if I didn’t get a reservation prior to sail date, I would run to Enchanted Garden to get in line for Palo or Remey lunch reservation- is that still the case now?

I missed out on the Day at Sea Palo brunch on the four-night Dream when I had to switch my cruise to a different date 88 days out. I had gotten it at 90 days on the first date we booked, so I was bummed. But yesterday. at 80 days out, they added a Palo brunch to Nassau day, and I was able to book! Keep looking at your Nassau day or other days. They tend to add another Palo brunch if the Day at Sea books up quickly.

15 Things Adults Can Enjoy on a Disney Cruise

W hen it comes to cruising, nobody does it quite like Disney. The ships, aptly named Magic, Wonder, Dream, Fantasy, and Wish, are vessels of excitement, from the spacious staterooms and fantastic entertainment to the imaginative youth clubs and sumptuous dining options. But what about the adults? You’ll be pleased to know that we have 15 things adults can enjoy on a Disney Cruise to ensure this age group has been remembered in this blog post.

The list varies from cruise ship to cruise ship since the deck plans and dining/entertainment options differ. Still, they can easily be swapped out depending on the boat you sail on.

1. Chill Out at Quiet Cove Pool

As a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of the ship, the Quiet Cove Pool is a tranquil oasis where adults can enjoy a quiet swim, relax in the whirlpool spas, or soak in the sun. You can even order a refreshing beverage from the Cove Bar steps away.

The padded lounge chairs are perfect for reading a book, taking a nap, or relaxing.

Pro Tip : If you skip a port of call, you may have the Quiet Cove Pool all to yourself as we did.

2. Enjoy the State of the Art Fitness Center

For those looking for a more active way to spend their vacation, Disney offers a state-of-the-art fitness center complete with workout and cardiovascular equipment, weight machines, exercise classes (pilates, aerobics, yoga), and toning sessions. And let’s be honest, it’s a great way to offset all those incredible meals you’ll indulge in.

3. Dine at Remy or Palo

If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind dining experience, look no further than Remy and Palo. Both onboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, Remy offers a French-inspired gourmet dining experience, while Palo serves up Northern Italian cuisine. These adult-only restaurants require a reservation and a dress code, but it’s worth it.

Guests must be 18 or older.

Note : A reservation is needed to dine at both of these restaurants. Book them on the Disney Cruise Line website or once you get onboard. You will be charged a cancellation fee if you do not show up for your reservation.

4. Get Pampered at the Ship’s Spa and Salon

Get ready to indulge in serious pampering when you visit the spa and salon onboard a Disney ship. Choose from various treatments, from massages, body wraps, and facials to hair styling, teeth whitening, and pedicures, and enjoy some quality “me time” while being treated like royalty.

Disney’s Senses Salon and Spa was literally a retreat at sea with its fantastic services, steam rooms, and sauna. Spa appointments can be booked online or once you get onboard.

5. Catch a Movie or Show

Disney is known for its incredible entertainment, and their cruise ships are no exception. Check out the Buena Vista Theater, which features first-run movies and live shows, or head to the Walt Disney Theater for Broadway-style productions. And remember Disney’s incredible fireworks show, which takes place on most cruises.

6. Learn About (and Sip) Champagne

Head to Pink: Wine and Champagne Bar on the Disney Dream if you want a romantic or educational activity. The elegant atmosphere and incredible selection of wines and champagnes are sure to impress, and the Champagne Flight, featuring three glasses of bubbly, is the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion.

7. Dance at the Nightclubs and Lounges

Each Disney ship has an area full of bars and lounges. At night, this space becomes adults-only. Whether you want to sit back and listen to live music or drink a cocktail under a disco ball, there is something for all adults to do on a Disney Cruise of the evening.

Pro Tip: Icy pop cocktails are our favorite.

There’s plenty of fun after hours, from Ooh La La on the Disney Fantasy to Pub 687 on the Disney Dream, Fathom and Keys on the Disney Magic, and Azure on the Disney Wonder. My family loved the Pino bar and Skyline, where the city views changed daily.

8. Sign Up For a Tasting Class

Beverages tastings and classes are plentiful on Disney Cruise Line. You might find a few interesting ones aboard your cruise: bourbon, chocolate, rum, wine, martinis, margaritas, mojitos, and beer. Some classes may involve a nominal fee, but it is super fun to sample the (often) adult libations. I always look for things I want to familiarize myself with when I look for tasting to sign up for.

Pro Tip: Sign up early; these fill up quickly.

9. Participate in a Mixology Class

Are you feeling crafty? Head to the Meridian Lounge on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy for a mixology class, which will take your tasting one level further. Learn how to make classic cocktails, or try your hand at creating your own signature drink. It’s a fun and interactive way to spend an afternoon or evening.

10. Earn A Disney Medal

Don’t miss the chance to join the Castaway Cay 5K while visiting Disney’s private island in the Bahamas. This 3.1-mile trek showcases hidden parts of the island you wouldn’t otherwise see. The 5K is free and suitable for all fitness levels, whether you prefer running or walking. Plus, every participant receives a coveted Disney medal upon completion.

To register for the Castaway Cay 5K, visit Guest Services.

11. Check Out the Disney Cruise Line Activities

Disney offers a variety of engaging activities for adults to enjoy throughout the day. With your very own Adult Activities Director, you can partake in bingo, bridge, volleyball, trivia, karaoke, dancing, crafts, and interactive game shows.

Take advantage of the opportunity to make new friends and have a blast!

12. Take Your Own Character Photos

What better way to document your Disney Cruise than a picture with your favorite Disney characters or Mickey Mouse in my book? The cast will make several appearances during your cruise, each time in different outfits.

Relish the short photo lines onboard and collect as many photos as possible to document your memorable Disney cruise.

13. Enjoy An Adult-Only Port Adventure

Most Disney Cruise itineraries offer adult-only excursions. Look for a note indicating that it’s for adults under the Port Adventures listing. These trips cover rum tours, snorkeling, cabana massages, and historic site visits.

Check the Disney Cruise Line website or ask the Port Adventures desk for adult-exclusive excursions onboard.

14. See Broadway-Style Shows

Disney Cruise Line’s live stage shows could be on Broadway –they are that good! The music, costumes, and sets are pretty phenomenal, especially for a cruise. Each ship has different productions.

Dream : Disney’s Believe (story of a busy father who reconnects with his daughter with the help of a little Disney magic), The Golden Mickeys (a tribute to Walt Disney films featuring a few characters you don’t see very often), and Beauty and the Beast.

Wish : Disney’s Aladdin — A Musical Spectacular, The Little Mermaid, and Disney Seas the Adventure.

Magic : Twice Charmed, An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story, Disney Dreams — An Enchanted Classic, and Tangled: The Musical.

Wonder : The Golden Mickeys, Disney Dreams —An Enchanted Classic, and Frozen, A Musical Spectacular.

Fantasy : Disney’s Believe, Frozen: A Musical Spectacular, and Disney’s Aladdin — A Musical Spectacular.

I recommend seeing the shows, even if you typically skip them. If you don’t feel like getting dressed and going to the Walt Disney Theater, you can watch them on TV in your stateroom.

15. Relax at a Private Bahamian Oasis

Serenity Bay is an exclusive adults-only retreat on Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. If your cruise includes visiting Castaway Cay, Bahamas, spend your day at this tranquil beach. Serenity Bay offers a perfect escape for adults, whether you seek relaxation, water activities, live music, or the Open Air Bar.

Castaway Cay is truly a white sand beach paradise with umbrellas, beach chairs, waterslides, and all sorts of outdoor fun. There is a playground, shops, walking and running trails, and a specialty barbecue restaurant for dining on the island.

Misconceptions about Disney Cruise Line

Despite popular belief, kids are not omnipresent on Disney Cruises. While you may come across children, most of them are well-behaved. The onboard kid’s clubs are fantastic, and many children choose to spend a significant portion of their vacation there. The ship’s theme centers around Disney without being overwhelming.

While the dining rooms and live shows reflect Disney movies, you won’t have Goofy sitting next to you or be forced to watch “Frozen” repeatedly. Despite Disney ties in adult nightlife areas, the cruise offers an escape from a typical “Disney vacation.”

Disney Cruise Line caters to more than just families with small children. One Christmas, my family (including a 22-year-old) had a blast on a Disney Cruise. There was ample entertainment for all ages while still enjoying quality family time. Disney caters to families of all ages.

Caribbean Ports of Call

For those interested, Disney’s ports of call in the Caribbean include Costa Maya, Progreso, and Cozumel, Mexico, as well as George Town (Grand Cayman), Bahamas, Falmouth (Jamaica), and several Florida ports or embarkation cities (Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Port Canaveral).

Organized port excursions range from zip lining to submarine tours and lots of in-between.

There are plenty of things adults can enjoy on a Disney Cruise. If you want to relax, shop, eat, or indulge in the outdoors, there is something for everyone!

Everyone you know is going on a cruise

Travelers on the deck of a cruise ship

Lots of people will be getting their sea legs this summer.

Ports have been packed with cruise ships over the last few years, as vacationers flock to ever larger vessels and operators race to accommodate a surge in post-pandemic bookings — many of them from first-time passengers. The industry expects even more this year.

Benjamin Xiang, a San Francisco-based flight attendant, went on his first cruise last August, setting aside his reservations about “cruise people” and a type of trip he’d imagined would be “not my travel style.”

Benji Xiang enjoyed a Virgin Voyages cruise.

Taking advantage of a Virgin Voyages promotion that let him use credit card points to cover the $2,500 bill, Xiang booked a weeklong, all-inclusive, adults-only cruise from Barcelona, with stops at Mallorca, Ibiza and along the French Riviera.“I invited my best friend, we prepaid a $600 bar tab, and we were like, ‘We’ll just hang by the pool, read a book or something,’” said Xiang, 35. “Turned out we partied every single night and had a blast.”

He’s among the many cruise newbies who’ve helped power the industry’s recent growth. Some 27% of cruise passengers over the past two years have been first-timers, up 12% from the prior two-year period, according to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), a trade group.

Turned out we partied every single night and had a blast.

Benjamin Xiang, 35, San Francisco

“Will I go back? I think yes,” Xiang said. “Will I pay this time? Yes.”That’s exactly what cruise operators are hoping for, and so far they’re getting it: 82% of all cruisers say they’ll book again, CLIA’s latest report found.

After welcoming 31.7 million passengers last year, 7% more than in 2019, the industry expects volumes to swell to 34.7 million by the end of 2024. Experts say a combination of newcomers, repeat bookers and younger travelers are powering the uptick.

Like Xiang, many first-time cruisers are groups of friends traveling together, said Jennifer Klaussen, who owns Sundari Travel in Malibu, California.

“Once they get on a cruise and realize it’s not what they thought it would be, they’re usually interested in future cruises and diverse destinations,” she said, adding that newer operators have managed to “reduce the stigma associated with cruising — that it’s only for the elderly.”

Two cruise ships at the port

Passengers under age 40, including kids, made up around 42% of cruisegoers last year, up from 35% in 2019, according to CLIA. While the average age of a cruise customer is 46 industrywide, millennials now make up nearly the same share — 22% — as baby boomers and Gen Xers, who each comprise 24%.“The cruise industry has been hard at work to launch new ships and experiences that are attractive to a younger, newer demographic,” said Colleen McDaniel, editor-in-chief of Cruise Critic, “whether that’s a big, new ship with eye-catching attractions for families, or more bucket-list-worthy experiences like sailings in the Galapagos or Antarctica.”

The cruise industry has been hard at work to launch new ships and experiences that are attractive to a younger, newer demographic.

Colleen McDaniel, editor-in-chief of Cruise Critic

Amenities don’t hurt either, said Nathan Rosenberg, chief brand officer at Virgin Voyages, which began sailing only in 2021, as the cruise industry rebounded from the pandemic. “Millennials and Gen Z love the fact that everything is included. Think meals foodies would love, tips covered, Wi-Fi to stay connected and a ton of fitness classes,” he said.Vessels are getting bigger to handle the growing demand.

In January, Royal Caribbean Group launched Icon of the Seas — currently the world’s largest cruise ship, with 20 decks, 40 restaurants and room for more than 7,000 passengers and 3,000 crew members.

The company, meanwhile, reported a 16% increase in new cruisegoers between this year and last across its various cruise lines. Nearly half of all Royal Caribbean guests are millennials or younger, CEO Jason Liberty said on the company’s first-quarter earnings call.

Similarly, Norwegian Cruise Lines CEO Harry Sommer told CNBC earlier this month, “We appeal obviously to older customers, but millennial and Gen Z is the fastest-growing segment of our cruising right now.”

In an aerial view, Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas

Cruises generally aren’t cheap, though, and Sommer noted that the company’s target customer is middle- or upper-income. As consumer spending cools down across much of the economy, Americans are adjusting their summer vacation plans to fit their budgets. The share of travelers put off by steep prices hit 32% in Deloitte’s annual summer travel survey , up sharply from 24% last year. But more affluent vacationers still seem eager to shell out on everything from first-class airfare to luxury train trips , as the industry continues to push premium offerings .

“More higher-income travelers are headed to cruises,” whereas “lower-income travelers are going camping,” the Deloitte report, released Tuesday, said. (“RV trips are up across the board,” it added.)

That doesn’t mean cruise passengers aren’t paying attention to price.

Jaclyn Groh will be going on her first cruise in March 2025, sailing around the Caribbean. The 34-year-old therapist and social work professor at Ohio State University in Columbus typically takes her family on boat trips on a lake, beach visits, “and of course the occasional Disney adventure for the kiddos,” said Groh.

Jaclyn Groh booked a cruise for herself and her husband next year, a change of pace from family-friendly beach resorts they've visited in the past.

While some of her friends have done family cruises, she’s never been interested in the largest cruise ships because they seem “overwhelming.” But in shopping around for a vacation next year for just her and her husband, Groh said her travel agent’s description of the packages available won her over. The smaller Explora II vessel she opted for has a “boutique feel that we love,” she said. And it’s priced about the same as the resort in Curaçao where the couple will be celebrating their 10th anniversary this fall. That week on land will run about $6,500, while the cruise comes to about $6,700.

“The price seems very reasonable for all of the inclusions, and yet with the cruise we will get to experience so many new locations and excursions,” said Groh, who’s looking forward to “a perfect combination of resting in luxury and adventuring.”

After the past two years with dozens of offerings all around the Walt Disney World property, I am very disappointed in what I see this year. Not only has the food been scaled back I see no mention of Pride walls in the parks or at Disney Springs and in the Pride merchandise collection we did not get a Pride Minnie Mouse plushie. I did not expect Disney to pull back from our community this year when we needed you to step up more, especially in light of other companies like Target abandoning us.

Why the cake straw clip but no cake again? 😭 We miss the actual cake sooooo much.
