Donnelly river cruise

What a wonderful experience cruising down the pristine Donnelly River. Pete the tour operator has an incredible wealth of information on the flora, fauna and history of the area.... and keeps the passengers involved and entertained from start to finish. His passion for what he does is contageous and is a real credit to him. The cruise takes you down the Donnelly River to where it meets the Great Southern Ocean.... Where u can go for a beach stroll before reboarding the boat for a cuppa and muffin. Just heard they do twilight/evening cruises too, arriving at the ocean at sunset and cruising back up river under lights. I will definitely be back to experience the beauty and tranquility of this majestic part of the world. Thanks for a fantastic experience!

The Donnelly River near Pemberton is not accessible other than by boat. Donnelly River Cruises takes you on a leisurely cruise down the river all the way to the river mouth on the south coast. You can drive to the boat landing to meet the boat or be collected by bus from near the Pemberton Visitor Centre. The boat is not large but there is plenty of room to move about and the seating is comfortable. The large windows provide a very good view for everyone. The commentary gives an insight into the history of the area as well as information on the flora and fauna- in particular the many bird species we saw. Along the way we passed a series of shacks, built years ago and one can't help but be impressed when considering that all supplies had to be brought by boat- and still do. There is no vehicle access to this stretch of river at all. At the river mouth there is time to leave the boat and wander along the river bank and the beach where the Southern Ocean comes pounding in. Morning tea is provided - freshly made muffins with tea and coffee. It's a leisurely trip with plenty of time to enjoy the serenity of the river. Highly recommended.

Our family enjoyed an autumn morning cruise with excellent commentary in a beautiful part of our south. Thank you

We had numerous correspondence with Peter during the build up to our short stay in Pemberton, regarding whether the river cruise would be running - we were in low season. The tour was eventually confirmed, and we were surprised, but delighted that the cruise boiled down to the two of us, rather than the usual boat full of people (max 31). Shaun picked us up from the Karri Valley Resort car park and we were treated to a personalised cruise of the wonderfully unspoilt Donnelly river. 12 km of unadulterated river all the way to the coast. With a two way dialogue with Shaun throughout, it made for a very enjoyable 3-4 hrs; punctuated with a stop for home made muffins and tea/coffee - lovely touch, which summed up the morning - just perfect! Many thanks to both Peter, for sanctioning the cruise, and to Shaun for running such an enjoyable trip - much appreciated!

We really enjoyed our cruise down the Donnelly River to the sea, but when it comes down to it there is not much to see apart from the river and the different trees and vegetation. There was little wildlife apart from a few ducks, geese and the occasional cormorant. The kids on our trip inevitably got bored by the 45 to 50 minute cruise each way. “Are we nearly there yet” was heard many times in both directions. The visual highlight is the sandbar and beach at the end. When we did the cruise the river had breached the sandbar and it was very interesting to see the tannic water rushing out to sea. The real highlight was Sean, our captain and guide, who was so well informed and told us so many interesting things.

Great trip down the Donnelly River with expert guide Sean. Highly recommended. The trip to the river was very informative and the views from the river mouth and the ocean were spectacular.
