My name is Rebecca Lacy. I became a travel advisor beause travel has been an intecral part of my own life. My parents instilled the importance of travel by making family vacations a priority so we could connect with our world whether we were hiking through a national park or visiting historical sites where the past became tangible.   

Today, my favorite vacations are lacing up my hiking shoes to trek into nature where I am awed and renewed. I also love experiencing a new culture and learning how the locals live.​

Wodospad Niagara

Własnie wróciliśmy z 4-ro dniowej wycieczki. Naszym przewodnikiem był P. Jarek Szczepaniak. Bardzo uroczy, profesjonalny, z dużym zasobem wiedzy i potrafiący w bardzo ciekawy sposób opowiadać o poszczególnych miejscach oraz historii Stanów. Godny polecenia! Brazylia - Argentyna

Ostatnio odbyliśmy wraz z żona wycieczkę do Brazylii z przewodnikiem Jarkiem Szczepaniakiem. Brazylia zrobiła na nas bardzo pozytywne wrażenie. Rio de Janeiro jest bardzo ładnie zlokalizowanym miastem, z wieloma ciekawymi obiektami do zwiedzania - godne polecenia. Trasa wycieczki wiodła przez miejscowości.które warto było zwiedzić ze względu na historię i architekturę. Wodospady Iguasu zadziwiły nas swoim ogromem, a przewodniczka, pani Ewelina Łącka swoją niepowtarzalną osobowością. Odbyliśmy ciekawą, poznawczą i edukacyjną wycieczkę. Nasze pozytywne wrażenia w znacznej mierze zawdzięczamy Jarkowi, który oprócz wiedzy, wykazał sie dobrym organizatrstwem, cierpliwością, wyrozumiałościa, humorem i profesjonalizmem. Dzika Alaska

Chciałabym tą drogą jeszcze raz podziękować Jarkowi Szczepaniak, przewodnikowi wycieczki na Alaskę, za fajną i spokojną wycieczkę!!! Byłam niejednokrotnie pełna podziwu dla jego spokoju i cierpliwości w stosunku do nas, uczestników tej wycieczki. Wszystko było bardzo dobrze zorganizowane. Dbał nie tylko o atrakcje, ale i o to też, abyśmy nie chodzili głodni. A szczególnie dziękuję za niezapowiedzianą w programie, dodatkową atrakcję, jaką było podejście pod lodowiec Exit !!!

Mój brat i ja świetnie się bawiliśmy podczas tej podróży. Wiele się nauczyliśmy i zobaczyliśmy wiele miejsc w krótkim czasie. Pielgrzymka do Ziemi Świętej

Pare dni temu wróciłam z wycieczki do Izraela i Jordanii zorganizowanej przez Jarka Szczepaniak z biura podroży Rek Travel . Wyprawa ta była bogata w przeogromna ilość historycznych i biblijnych faktów, duchowych przeżyć i także elementów relaksu , wypoczynek nad Morzem Martwym . Bardzo dobrze zorganizowana wycieczka . British Airways owner IAG predicts a summer travel boom as Q1 profits soar

British Airways owner IAG SA said it was well-placed for a strong summer season, with travel demand remaining robust after profit rose in the first quarter.

The airline group, which also owns Spain’s Iberia, said it was focused on key markets within Europe and across the Atlantic, even as it faces challenges in the rest of the world. Forward bookings in the second quarter were above 80%, while the third quarter was 40% booked, Chief Executive Officer Luis Gallego said on a media call.

“The high demand for travel is a continuing trend,” Gallego said on the call. 

IAG posted an adjusted operating profit of €68 million ($73.3 million) in the three months ended in March, which exceeded analysts’ €49.5 million estimate. Revenue rose 9.2% from a year earlier to €6.4 billion. 

IAG’s shares rose 0.7% at 8:16 a.m. in London. The stock has gained 19% this year. 

European airlines are facing a challenging backdrop to the key summer season this year, with the conflict in the Middle East denting demand for travel to the region and a rebound in competition driving down fares. Gallego said IAG is less exposed to Asia compared to its main rivals such as Deutsche Lufthansa AG and Air France-KLM. 

The airline group said it has presented a package of remedies to the European Commission on the Air Europa acquisition process, and that its “expectation remains for the process to complete later this year.”

The carrier also brought down its net debt to €7.4 billion at the end of the first quarter from €9.2 billion at the end of 2023.

IAG: British Airways owner’s profit takes off ahead of bumper summer

B ritish Airways’ owner the IAG has said it is “well-positioned” for another busy summer, as first-quarter profit jumped sevenfold.

The airline conglomerate, which also owners Aer Lingus, Iberia and Vueling, reported an operating profit of €68m (£58.5m), up from €9m the year prior.

Total revenue reached €6.4bn, up from €5.9bn as the group carried 26.3m passengers, an 8.6 per cent year-on-year increase.

Luis Gallego, IAG Chief Executive Officer, said: “Our transformation initiatives and increased demand, including over the Easter holidays, have delivered another very good set of results with improvements to both revenue and operating profit.

“Our group benefits from the strength of our core markets – North Atlantic, South Atlantic and intra-Europe – and the performance of our brands. Investment across the group in transformation is delivering encouraging improvements in punctuality and customer experience at our airlines.”

The results, which cover the typically quieter months of January to April, come as carriers across the globe continue to benefit from resurgent demand post pandemic.

British Airways in particular has enjoyed the rebound.

Last year, the IAG reported a record annual profit of €3.5bn in the busiest year for the industry since Covid-19 lockdowns grounded fleets.

There had been some concern that demand would slow into 2024 given business travel’s more chequered recovery. Conflict in the Middle East and Ukraine has also restricted airspace and caused a spike in jet fuel costs.

But the IAG’s share price is up over 17 per cent this year to date and rose 3.7 per cent yesterday ahead of the announcement.

European demand drove earnings, with capacity growth rising 9 per cent over the three months. The group conceded the rest of the world, particularly Africa, the Middle East and South Asia, was “more challenging.”

“In particular the conflict in the Middle East has impacted flying by most of our airlines to the region.”

It was the mid-eighties, just before the time of glasnost and perestroika , and soon Gorbachev would open the windows and begin to air out the old Soviet Union.

A fateful move for Gorbachev, and also for MIR founder Douglas Grimes. 

A young man with a passion for volleyball , Doug had dreamed of playing the Soviet team, which had long dominated his favorite sport. His enthusiasm led to a behind-the-scenes meeting with the Soviet Olympic team at an exhibition game in Seattle, after which Doug became instrumental in organizing a goodwill volleyball tour of what was then the U.S.S.R. 

In a time and a place where speaking to Americans was a calculated risk, Doug excelled at making friends and soon immersed himself in the daily lives of his Russian hosts and their families. He connected with the people through spirited and intimate discussions in Russian kitchens, and was delighted by a common understanding. 

By the end of the volleyball tour, Doug was hopelessly in love with the Russian people. 

His personal journey inspired him and his small crew to begin bringing other special-interest groups to the U.S.S.R. As their experience grew, a decision was made to found a company that would enable them to continue sharing what they knew about this little then traveled region with others. In 1986 MIR was born, taking the word that means both “peace” and “world” in Russian and Ukrainian languages for its name. 

A few years later, fresh out of university and armed with an obscure degree in Russian & East European Studies, Annie Lucas, MIR’s future Vice President, joined up with Doug and his growing team. One of her first undertakings was a month-long foray into the Soviet Union that changed the course of her life. She was hooked. 

Our deep connections to the stalwart people of the region carried us through the momentous transitions of the 20th century :

• The fall of the Berlin Wall and subsequent collapse of the Soviet Union plunged an entire region into turmoil.
• Yugoslavia splintered into its Balkan components.
• The Velvet Revolution saw the Czechs and the Slovaks parting company.
• In the 21st century, the “color revolutions” swept across Georgia (Rose), Ukraine (Orange), and Kyrgyzstan (Tulip).

We followed each story closely, in continuous contact with our offices and partners on the ground. We do the same today when parts of our region experience unrest or political upheaval – inevitable in an area that is so incredibly dynamic and fluid.

As these countries make their ways toward more just and peaceful systems, MIR is there to applaud their progress. Support local: Grub Wandering Kitchen

Grub Wandering Kitchen, also known as Grub Truck, has been serving the city of Moscow since 2013. But owner John Fletcher had a rocky road to travel before it's opening.

"I had just had my second restaurant fail miserably up in Spokane so I was broke," said Fletcher.

Broke, back at square one working for a friend at South Fork restaurant in Pullman, and a whole lot of adversity of face. But as you've probably heard, out of adversity comes opportunity.

"I found a box truck on craigslist for fifteen hundred bucks, I just kind of bought it on a whim. Two years, two months later I had it finished so...that's what I could do. You know wasn't so much a choice but like if I wanted to stay in the industry, stay an owner I had to scale down," explained Fletcher.

A mobile food truck seems like the perfect recipe for operating during a pandemic, but not necessarily.

Fletcher noted, "Well we decided to close down for the couple months that the bars were closed."

Grub truck parks right outside of the Garden Lounge in Moscow targeting late night bar-goer's passing by as his customers, but John wasn't in as much of a rush to re-open as other small business owners.

"Honestly I feel a little guilty about trying to like you know slam my business over the top during these times. You know I don't want to try and talk people into going out when they don't want to be out in public," said Fletcher.

With this in mind, after Grub Truck shut down for four month, John made sure to make everyone feel as safe as possible.

"We've also required masks from everyone who stops by. Because even though it is outdoors, once you're up there paying your face is about a foot or two from the cashier's face so six or eight hundred people come through over a course of a week, that makes the cashier feel pretty unsafe," added Fletcher.

After experiencing going out of business with one of his restaurants, which went under during the recession, John learned his lesson and was prepared for whatever the pandemic was going to bring this time around. He survived this time because...

"Probably you know keep a good cash reserve. And yeah don't live to close to the edge of your means financially," concluded Fletcher.

Grub Truck as we said earlier is located outside of the Garden Lounge in Moscow, located at 313 S Main St. You can checkout their full menu of nine different mac and cheese flavors and other menu items on their website, www.thegribtruck.com. Their current hours during the pandemic are Wednesday through Saturday from 10 P.M. to 1:30 A.M.
