Sightseeing

As a solo traveler, take advantage of the trails that are best suited to your skill level. Whether you’re a beginner looking to pick up the sport, or an advanced skier looking to navigate the difficult runs, you’ll have the flexibility of exploring at your own pace.

Solo ski trips are a great option for those looking to focus their time primarily on hitting the slopes. Apart from skiing, while traveling by yourself you’ll have the convenience of nearby shops and restaurants to explore on your down time.  Ski destinations often have specialty shops and a wide array of eateries.

The best ski trips for singles include both lively destinations, for those looking to connect and be around others, as well as quiet spots for those looking to relax in a resort and ski in a peaceful environment.

snowboarding alone in Park City

Park City is a vibrant destination with plenty of options for a skiing vacation. At the Park City Mountain Resort, solo travelers can experience over 7,300 acres of terrain and a whopping 348 trails.

The resort features impressive trails and terrain parks for intermediate and advanced skiers. In contrast, the resort’s “High Meadows Park” features a dedicated area with gentle terrain for beginners.

Located a few minutes away from the historic city center is Deer Valley Resort, another fantastic ski resort with over 2,000 acres of terrain.

At the end of the day, stop by the energetic Main Street Historic district, where you’ll find independent shops, fantastic restaurants, and entertainment. The vibrant street offers both low-key and lively venues for those traveling alone, including pubs, lounges, and eateries.

thrilling solo ski trip to Whistler

Host of the 2010 Winter Olympics, Whistler features plenty of skiable terrain, and is jam-packed with winter activities such as tubing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing.

The Whistler Blackcomb resort boasts two-side-by-side mountains with 8,000 acres of terrain. Over 200 marked trails are available, include those for advanced skill levels, dedicated beginner zones, and everything in between.

This vibrant resort town is brimming with fine-dining restaurants, casual eateries, and boutique shops for single travelers to explore. At the end of the day, unwind in the majestic bath waters at the Scandinave Spa.

Solo travelers looking for a new activity to try can visit the Whistler Sliding Centre for the unique experience and adrenaline rush of racing down the Bobsleigh or Skeleton track.

visiting Telluride resort by yourself

The quaint former mining town of Telluride is enveloped by Colorado’s rugged peaks. The town center on Main Street offers an intriguing collection of historic buildings, boutiques, bars, galleries, shops, and restaurants.

Perched 9,500 feet above the valley floor is the town of Mountain Village, which includes access to the Telluride Ski Resort. A scenic gondola provides the convenient transportation system of connecting the two together.

With a 360 view of the surrounding San Juan Mountains, the ski resort offers over 2,000 acres of terrain for a variety of skill levels. At 4,000 metres elevation, advanced skiers will be interested in descending from Pamlyra Peak.

Closer to the base of the village, there are excellent trail options for beginner levels, with easy access to the spa and dining. The location of the resort makes it ideal option for a year-round skiing destination.

Breckenridge

ski packages for single female

One of Colorado’s most visited ski towns, Breckenridge offers plenty of high alpine terrain, as well as options for ski-in ski-out lodging.

The Breckenridge ski resort consists of 5 dramatic mountain peaks, with 2,908 acres of terrain. With 187 trails, solo travelers will find a variety of options for all skill levels.

Take a break from the slopes, and take a walk  through the lively downtown historic district, known as Main Street. Located just steps away from the ski resort, you’ll find cozy restaurants, local boutiques, and specialty foods.

Breckenridge also offers an array of alternative winter activities to choose from. Cross-country ski or snowshoe through the groomed paths lined with snow-coated pine trees at the Breckenridge Nordic Center.

solo woman skiing in Banff National Park

There’s plenty of wilderness and beauty in Banff National Park.  In addition, the town of Banff’s lively atmosphere offers an ideal opportunity for single travelers to connect with others. Here, you’ll find a vibrant area with a wide selection of bars, restaurants, and fun shops.

The popular Sunshine Village resort offers three mountains with more than 3,500 acres of terrain to explore. Goat’s Eye mountain showcases the highest peak for advanced skiers, followed by Lookout Mountain, and Mount Standish with excellent intermediate and beginner options.

Lake Louise Ski Resort is another spectacular option, with 4200 acres of terrain across 4 mountains. While at the peak, admire the spectacular view of the Canadian Rockies. For freestyle skiing, the resort also offers four terrain parks catered to various skill levels, ranging from beginner to advanced.

5 Best Ski Towns for Solo Travelers — With Cozy Lodges and Excellent Après-ski Scenes

Contrary to popular belief, ski trips are ideal for solo travelers, too.

Jordan Lye/Getty Images

The eight-bedroom ski chalets on Airbnb and images of families crowding around outdoor fire pits in between runs may suggest the quintessential ski vacation is geared toward groups. But ski trips can also be great for solo travelers. There’s a reason for the singles line at the chairlift, after all.

Some destinations are better for solo skiing than others, though. These picks get top marks for everything from ease of getting around (both on the mountain and in town), suitable accommodations, and a solid après-ski scene that’s as receptive to the single traveler as it is to the gaggle of bachelorettes seated at the communal table.

Aspen, Colorado

Douglas Sacha/Getty Images

Aspen, Colorado , appeals to visitors from all over the world thanks to its downtown charm, complete with art galleries, fine food and drink ( Clark’s Oyster Bar and French Alpine Bistro are two such standouts), local boutiques, and cannabis shops. Staying in the heart of the action at the always-hip W Aspen means you can skip the rental car and splurge on some new cowboy boots instead.

While Aspen Mountain , or the “town mountain,” will keep both beginner and advanced skiers and riders occupied, free shuttles stop at Snowmass and Aspen Highlands for more powder-filled adventure (the latter is not for newbies). If you’re looking to brush up on your skills and meet other travelers, consider a group ski lesson. Full-day lessons or clinics max out at five people, and surely one group member will know where to relax after the last run. For live music, hit up Belly Up Aspen , an institution that brings big names to the stage.

Stowe, Vermont

capecodphoto/Getty Images

If any ski town in the U.S. is reminiscent of Europe, it’s this one in northern Vermont . Bursting with wine bars, breweries, cafes, and boutiques, Stowe is perfectly positioned to charm the individual wanderer. The skiing is not too shabby, either. A first-of-its-kind six-passenger chairlift ushers shredders up Vermont's tallest peak at high speed so they can spend more time on the slopes. Fast-moving singles lines mean solo travelers get there even quicker.

Plan your trip around the annual Winter Rendezvous , Stowe’s LGBTQ+ Pride celebration since the early '80s. Make new friends at activities and events throughout the week, like the pool party held at Trapp Family Lodge. Speaking of lodges: Tälta Lodge is a cozy respite for the individual traveler looking for style and substance that won’t break the bank.

South Lake Tahoe, California

Sundry Photography/Getty Images

Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe is the ultimate playground for intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. The resort is perched on one of Tahoe’s tallest mountains, but it's still very accessible. The shuttle from Reno–Tahoe International Airport to South Lake Tahoe lasts only about an hour. Once you're settled in town, you can take the gondola up the mountain for dining, shopping, and après-ski action. Solo travelers may want to check out the 21-room Desolation Hotel , which bills itself as a micro resort.

The casino scene is fairly prominent here, too, and what better place to start up a conversation with strangers than at a low-stakes blackjack table? Whiskey Dick’s Saloon is the place for live music minus the families, but first, reward your sporting efforts with pub fare at Gunbarrel Tavern or a hearty bowl of pasta at the cozy Cafe Fiore . Get caffeinated the next day at Driftwood Cafe , then see how much of Heavenly’s 4,800 skiable acres you can conquer before lunchtime.

Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, Charlevoix, Quebec

Courtesy of Club Med

The gorgeous Club Med Quebec Charlevoix (yes, that Club Med) is as welcoming to solo travelers as it is to families. The all-inclusive format means all you need to do is show up; included in a stay at this Quebec mountain resort is a lift ticket, lessons (great for linking up with others), and food and beverages throughout your stay.

There’s much more to do here than just ski, though — Club Med guests can choose from 25 activities to add to their itinerary. From yoga and trapeze classes to ice skating, it’s almost impossible to feel lonely here. For après-ski craft cocktails, head to Bar Le Chalet and make a point to enjoy at least one supplementary dinner at Le Chalet.

Zermatt, Switzerland

XU BO/Getty Images

Who says solo travelers shouldn’t splurge on a European ski vacation ? Vehicle-free Zermatt, easily reached by train from Zurich or Geneva, is about as idyllic as ski villages come. Because this is Switzerland, expect fine chocolates, pastries, and the quintessential fondue to fuel your epic runs. A lunch reservation for one at the rustic-chic Chez Vrony serves a dual purpose: midday ski break and the best Matterhorn viewing on the mountain.

After the lifts close, the town entices with live music (check out Schmuggler-Höhle , which doubles as a pizzeria, and Papperla Pub , where the glühwein flows). This being Europe, the breakfast buffet is likely to impress no matter which hotel you choose, but stylish travelers know Schweizerhof Zermatt checks all the boxes.

Ski Trips for Solo Skiers

“Age doesn't matter! What does make a difference, is your fitness and your attitude.”

AVERAGE AGE

Your age does not matter! What does make a difference, is your fitness and your attitude.

Our Ski Safari guests are typically 50 to late ’60s. Our youngest skier was Jasper at 14 years and Larry holds the record as our most senior ski safari guest at 79 years young.

SKI THE DOLOMITE MOUNTAINS

The Inspired ITALY Dolomites Ski Safari is skiing in the Dolomites at its very best!

Journey through the Dolomite Mountains on the lesser-known, quieter pistes to find the best snow, stunning vistas, local cuisine, wines and stay the night.

The DOLCE TEMPO Dolomites Ski Safari has a gentler pace, more coffee stops and has time to take in the wonderfully unique views and vistas that the Dolomites has to offer.

On the CLASSIC Dolomites Ski Safari , there are no obligatory black slopes. You can cruise the whole week on nothing more challenging than a red ski slope if you wish! For those seeking a little more, you can take on the ‘Tomba la Bomba’, Vulcano and a number of other great black slopes.

The  VENTURE Dolomites Ski Safari  is a faster pace. We hunt down some cracking Dolomite black ski slopes, look to set a blistering pace and take on all four world cup ski slopes that the Dolomites has to offer.

The SPECIAL Dolomites Ski Safari incorporates the best rifugi in the Dolomites and some memorable experiences. Arrive at the Marmolada by helicopter and in time for the first box and fresh tracks! And how about arriving at your remote rifugio on a snowmobile? Oh, and the skiing is just world-class!

ACCOMMODATION

There is something magical about staying on the mountain; As the other skiers drop back into their valleys and return to their hotels, you pull up a chair, order a drink and allow the mountain tranquillity to wash over you. Watch the sun slide behind the mountain opposite, because, more than likely, you’ll be skiing it tomorrow! Enjoy a quiet social evening in the tranquillity that is as unique as the mountain top that you’re on!

SMALL GROUPS & LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE

A cornerstone of all Inspired ITALY Dolomites Ski Safari, is without a doubt, our guests.

With a maximum of seven guests per Inspired ITALY Dolomites Ski Safari, the atmosphere is more a dinner party than a ski holiday. And, as with any good dinner party, guests tend to share similar values and life experiences. As you are reading this, you probably fit our guest profile!

Most guests are professional, successful people and enjoy a slightly adventurous outlook on life.

You can expect to meet fellow solo skiers from the UK, Eire, USA, New Zealand and Australia as well as a number of other countries.

ALL ABOUT SKIING

But make no mistake, we ski a lot and we ski a long way! The Inspired ITALY Dolomites Ski Safaris are all about skiing.

Six full ski days covering more than 120 ski miles!

YOUR SKI LEADER & HOST

Your host and Ski Leader for your Ski Safari week is a dedicated native English speaker with oodles of knowledge about the Dolomite mountains.

We give you a piste map, but you won't ever need it! Nor do you need to worry about the next run, as your ski leader briefs you before each slope.

Don't concern yourself with lunch, coffee stops or even what time it is. There are no arguments as to where to go next or whether you're up to the next run.

You concentrate on your skiing!

Your ski leader has it covered!

MATCHED ABILITIES

Prior to booking, we qualify all our ski guests.

As far as is possible, this ensures that groups are of similar ski ability and fitness. All our guests are intermediate or better skiers.

Not that we have anything against snowboarders, but we do not mix disciplines! There are no snowboarders on our ski adventures.

NO SINGLE SUPPLEMENTS

At the four-star base hotel, the Cavallino d'Oro, as a solo skier, you have your own single room. In the refuge, more than likely you will have to share accommodation with your group. Rifugio accommodation is typically a private en suite room.

Winter Park Singles Ski Vacation

Join us this winter as we return to Winter Park after a 3-year hiatus.  We’ve had so many requests for another Winter Park week that we decided to add it back to the mix in our 2023 winter schedule. This is one of our favorite destinations not only because of its proximity to Denver making travel a breeze, but also due to it’s spectacular varied terrain covering over 3000+ acres. Winter Park is an inexpensive high end ski week with lots of perks, plenty of singles, great food, and of course lots of great skiing.

Loosely divided into 5 distinct areas with varying terrain and levels of difficulty making the resort easy to navigate with plenty of hidden gems. It’s the kind of destination that brings back regulars year after year… The mountain tops off at over 12,000 ft. with a 3000’ vertical which includes trail skiing (166 trails) + plenty off piste opportunities including some of the best high alpine bowls and endless manicured glades for the adventurous.   Amazingly the resort has 25 lifts including the new gondola limiting any long lines.

Being only 65 miles from Denver, Winter Park is a first choice for Denver locals but the good news is we arrive on Sunday as everyone is heading back to work.  For us this means No Crowds & No Lines ! Imagine a resort with facilities designed for thousands virtually empty during the week.

Our on site Hotel ‘The Vintage’ is located next to the entrance of the base village and features the popular ‘Five Mountain Tavern’ bar and grill adjacent to the main hotel lobby. Facilities also include a free Wi-Fi, modern gym, outdoor heated pool and hot tub overlooking the slopes.

Winter Park was voted “Best Ski Resort in North America” in 2018 with good reason…. Winter Park has more than 3,000 acres of terrain, world class glade runs, beautiful bowls, powder stashes and word famous “Mary Jane” bump runs

SKI HOLIDAYS FOR SINGLES

Articled updated 24 August 2021

How to get the most out of singles skiing

Skiing holidays might have a reputation for catering to big groups of friends or tight-knit families, but have you ever considered going alone? A solo ski holiday is a chance to do the thing you want to do when you want to do the, Just you, freedom and an entire mountain of fun to be explored.

Whether you are a first timer looking to try something new or an accomplished off-piste thrill seeker, there are numerous reasons why a single ski holiday could be the trip for you. Here is how to get the most out of your solo ski adventure whatever your skill level, age or reason for going on holiday.

single ski trips

Enjoy the freedom

People go on solo ski holidays for many reasons, both young and old. Maybe they are the only member of the family who enjoys the sport. It could be they are simply happier travelling alone or they could see it as an opportunity to meet like-minded people. Some are just sneaking in a second holiday when others can’t make it because they love skiing so much. If you are going on a ski holiday because you want to become a better skier, travelling alone is a great idea.

Whether you are a beginner or an expert, it can be hard to get opportunities to test yourself when you are with a big group of skiers with varying abilities. There can often be a lot of compromise, and you can sometimes find yourself skiing on more intermediate slopes just to please your friends, instead of trying harder or easier slopes which are more suited to your ability.

The good thing about going on a solo trip is that the only person you have to keep happy is yourself. This added freedom of being able to do whatever you want, whenever you want means you can manage your time on the slopes at your own speed. You will not have to worry about your more relaxed friends not wanting to get out of bed until midday, or younger family members getting tired and wanting to end the day early. You also don’t have to be concerned that you might find yourself in the middle of a week-long party scene with people who just want to get drunk. Many solo skiers head on holiday with sport firmly on their mind and you will find many who are happy to have fun but are also fully focused on the next run.

Tips for solo skiers

Organising a group holiday requires a lot of planning. From ski passes to equipment hire, there is usually a huge itinerary to be followed so that everyone has an enjoyable time. Straying from this itinerary on a group trip can put the whole holiday in jeopardy, but when you are going solo, it is all part of the fun.

Enjoy the fact that you can decide to go on a last-minute heli-skiing trip, or randomly stay out all night when you were actually planning an early evening, or even go to a completely different ski area just because you overheard someone talking about it at breakfast.

The best part of any holiday usually comes from an unpredictable decision, and there is no better time to find this out than when you’re on your own on the slopes.

single ski trips

Don’t be shy

Remember many other solo skiers will be in the same boat as you. Introduce yourself, swap tips and, even if you are not destined to become lifelong friends, at least you will have skiing in common to talk about. Everyone needs to boast to someone about that black run you conquered earlier in the day. Maybe even ask someone to take a photo for you on the breathtaking slopes, that is an easy way to start a conversation.

single ski trips

Make the most of the apres ski scene

A unique aspect of a ski holiday is the alpine tradition of apres ski , aka; the post-ski food, drinks and party scene. Apres ski is all about people with the shared interest of skiing having fun together, regardless of whether you are with a group or on your own.

The inclusive nature of apres ski makes it easy to get to know new people – you just have to go in with an open mind and a friendly attitude. You are guaranteed to meet folks from all walks of life, and the chances are that many of the people you meet will also be skiing alone. It is easy to find the classes where other skiers will be at your level meaning you can learn and grow together.

single ski trips

Get to know other single skiers

Not everyone goes on a single ski holiday because they want to improve their ski ability. It can be tough to convince your family or friends to come with you if they are not into skiing, or maybe you just prefer traveling solo. But don’t think that booking a ski holiday alone means that you have to be by yourself the whole time whatever age you are.

Skiing alone has never been so popular, meaning there are plenty of people looking for company and a fellow sportsperson. But how do you meet these people? Prior to your trip, online forums such as Snowheads are specifically focused on single skiing and are a great place to start discussing your trip. Here you can get travel tips, skiing advice, and you might even find someone going to the same resort that needs a roommate. Similarly, when you arrive at your destination, ask around and find events the resort might put on specifically for single skiers. You will soon realise that skiing solo is one of the best things you can ever do.

What’s With All the Singles Ski Trips?

single ski trips

In April 2023, just under 500 single people flocked to Val Thorens ski resort in France. The mass sport-meets-dating event was run by Thursday , a dating app designed to be used just one day a week, ideally encouraging people to get off their phones and meet in person . According to Harry Savage, head of partnerships at the app, Thursday has been hosting singles mixers (up to 20 events a week in London over the summer) since the app launched in May 2021, but its first organized holiday upped the ante entirely. Thursday chose skiing because it affords multiple opportunities for connection . “You’ve got the gondola with chairlift speed dating and mountain brunches,” Savage says. “Everyone bumps into each other for the week, and there’s lots of drinking involved.”

Still, when the app put out the call for a singles ski trip, Savage expected 100 or so people to sign up. Instead, it was flooded with interest. The trip was so successful it held a second round this year, in partnership with Pear , a company that makes green rings identifying the wearer as romantically available. (Basically, it’s the opposite of an engagement ring.) LuvSki , as the trip was called, ran from March 23 to 30; before they sold out, solo tickets started at $480, a cost that includes accommodation for seven nights (in an apartment with up to five other people) and access to both the slopes and events during the week.

With bookings coming in from New York, India, and London, Thursday claims the event is “the biggest ski trip in the world for people who hate dating apps.”

single ski trips

And honestly, that scans: As Savage noted, “skiing is quite niche when you think of a holiday,” so how many mass ski trips could there be for singles looking to mingle offline? More than I initially guessed: Each season, there’s an array of dating-oriented ski holidays and events taking place across the world, from singles’ holidays at Hotel Portillo in Chile to Singles Ski Week in Aspen and chairlift speed dating at Mount Norquay in Alberta, Canada; Wilmot Ski Resort in Wisconsin; and Brundage Mountain in McCall, Idaho, which reps for the resort say drew about 80 participants to the slopes in February. A revival of an apparently beloved meet-cute format from 2012, Brundage’s Centennial Express matched singles based on age and skiing abilities. In the world of ski romance, that last point is important. “It’s not always about meeting the love of your life,” Savage observes. “It’s also about meeting like-minded singles.”

single ski trips

For some of those singles, technical skill trumps other dating nonnegotiables. “If you’re trying to meet someone romantically while skiing, just be honest about your skills because it becomes apparent quickly,” advises Jean-Pierre Goulet, director of sales and marketing at Brundage. Kailyn, a Centennial Express attendee, agreed. While she did swap Instagram handles with someone she met between lift rides, “My second date popped out of his skis multiple times and had a wipeout at the end of the run,” she says. “Needless to say, not a match.” Although Goulet says attendees varied widely in their skill levels and included beginners looking to improve at the sport, many expert skiers are looking for someone who can keep up.

For others, though, skiing’s romantic potential seems to have little to do with the sport itself. After all, skiing isn’t known for its accessibility: It’s expensive, for one — this season, the average price of a daily mountain pass came in just under $200 , according to one vacation-booking site that ran the numbers, and that’s before you factor in the cost of equipment, lessons, accommodations, and travel. It’s earned a reputation as a pastime for rich white people , all of which may help explain the occasionally anxious dialogue from novices about “ marrying into a ski family .” Still, some skiers I spoke with kept an open mind about experience levels and wound up meeting a match.

single ski trips

Tara Woods, for example, was given a free pass to Brundage by her boss in 2006 when she first moved to McCall, Idaho. “I went to the thrift store, bought myself a pair of old skis and boots, and would follow groups of school kids who were learning and just imitate them,” she says. The first time she attempted to ski down the mountain, she fell down the slope and broke her ski. She met her now-husband Will at the repair shop, where he worked at the time. “He gave me free rentals and taught me how to ski during his breaks or days off,” Woods says. They got married in 2008 and now have a 12-year-old son, whom they take skiing every season.

single ski trips

Tara and Will were simply looking for someone to get outside and enjoy life with, priorities that many single people share. As meeting online quickly becomes the most popular way for couples to connect , nearly half of Americans feel like dating has become more difficult in the past decade . There seems to be a growing desire to return to in-person encounters and activity-centered dating. You could swap “singles skiing” out for “singles hiking” or “singles bowling” and it would likely hold a similar appeal for those feeling worn down by the illusion of options online.

And when you think about it, a chairlift meet-cute can easily resemble a blind date. Gwen Asmussen, of Idaho, met her husband, Jess, in 2008 at Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado through a mutual friend and fellow skier who encouraged the pair to ride the chairlift together. During that short trip to the top of the mountain, Asmussen could tell there was “something different” about him, though she couldn’t see what he looked like through his ski goggles and hat. They skied together two times after that before either of them saw each other’s faces. “I worked in a ski shop and he was coming to pick me up from the shop when we both realized we had no idea what each other looked like,” she says. “All we’d ever seen were just lips and nose.” Luckily, the attraction remained even after the goggles came off, and the pair married in 2011.

Ultimately, there are a lot of people out there who are looking for love and looking for a brag-worthy hobby ; singles’ skiing kills both birds with one stone (or one ergonomic ski pole), and the icebreakers are built right in. It also offers an opportunity to invest in platonic relationships. Savage is unsure how many romantic connections were made during Thursday’s trip last year but says many of its 2023 solo bookings are returning with groups of friends. Georgia Lomas, a 28-year-old from Manchester, was one of those second-time attendees. She made friends with the girls sharing her apartment last year. “We came away with a good group of friends but nothing long-term relationship-wise,” she says. Her expectations for this year were similarly modest. She wants to meet new people but is fine with it not ending in a serious relationship. “You can’t force anything on these holidays anyway,” she adds. An important lesson for the ski slopes and the dating field alike.

Want to Ski in the Summer? Try South American Slopes

If you can't stomach the exorbitant sticker prices of North American ski vacations, try these unbeatable slopes in Chile and Argentina.

Embarking on a summertime ski vacation to South America is surprisingly easy to navigate. Unlike traditional winter ski vacations in the Northern Hemisphere, the children are out of school, and there are no holiday obligations to juggle.

Valle Nevado, Chile. Photo: Pablo Sanhueza

Best of all? Ski passes, lodging, amenities and food are often a fraction of the cost of North American resorts. For example, at the Valle Nevado resort in Chile, a 10-day lift ticket is less than $500, or about what you would pay for two days at a major U.S. resort.

The Andes are stark, beautiful and massive, with the highest peaks in the Western Hemisphere. The mountains in the north near Santiago, Chile, will make your next Colorado ski trip seem like a collection of molehills.

Matias Basualdo/Zuma Press

Ski Portillo | Chile

A two-hour shuttle from Santiago’s international airport drops you at this relatively small resort that is a longtime favorite of skiers from families to World Cup racers. Snowboarders and skiers can schuss down family-friendly trails, test out challenging steep slopes or catch a helicopter to some off-trail skiing.

An all-inclusive full week of skiing at Portillo resort in Chile—the most expensive of all the options we’ll talk about here—starts at $3,050 per person. A 123-room, bright-yellow hotel sits alongside a glittering lake, and 2024 is a season of celebrations marking the resort’s 75th anniversary.

Valle Nevado | Chile

Ninety minutes by car from the Santiago airport is Valle Nevado. A steep, switchbacking, two-lane road makes for a dizzying vertical rise from the city that takes you above the urban mayhem to a little village of hotels, restaurants and sprawling, wide-open ski runs.

Valle Nevado is situated alongside two other locally popular ski areas: La Parva and El Colorado. A common lift ticket for all three gives you access to 7,000 acres of skiable terrain. Valle Nevado also accepts three North American-based season passes: Ikon, Mountain Collective and Power Pass.

Pablo Sanhueza

Las Leñas | Argentina

In a treeless valley in the Mendoza province, Las Leñas is surrounded by towering summits and some of the most legendary lift-accessed steep skiing in the world. Getting there requires a domestic flight and a few hours in a shuttle, but most skiers find it worth the trek.

Catedral Alta Patagonia | Argentina

From Buenos Aires, Catedral Alta Patagonia is easy to access via frequent daily flights of about two hours from the capital into downtown San Carlos de Bariloche. The resort is just 10 miles from the city’s downtown on the shore of the massive Lago Nahuel Huapi.

Catedral Alta Patagonia

Within striking distance by car are two more rising stars: Cerro Bayo Ski Boutique and Chapelco Resorts . The trio is perfect for a road trip beginning at Catedral and ending at Chapelco, also served by daily flights from Buenos Aires.

Perhaps the most high-profile ski resort in Argentina, Catedral’s 35 lifts and many amenities cater to both families and advanced skiers, and include a terrain park for trick skiing and exceptional skiing through woods, a rarity in the Andes.
