Crieff is to once again play host to the finale of this year’s Perthshire Classic Car Tour.

Taking place on Sunday, April 21, more than 100 vintage, classic and prestige cars are set to take part in an event designed to raised much-needed funds for eating disorder charity Beat and the MS Society Scotland.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Perth, drivers will take a spectacular route between Perth’s McDiarmid Park, along Loch Tay and then up to Ballachulish.

After lunch the tour will go back through Glencoe, then south along the top of Loch Awe and will finish at Crieff Hydro Hotel for an end -of-tour dinner and awards ceremony.

Each leg of the journey is 100 miles and is billed as a great opportunity for classic car lovers – drivers, passengers and spectators alike – to join in.

Rotarians are organising the rally with the support of main sponsor John Clark Motor Group and raised £30,000 for charity last year.

Ahead of this year’s event Anna Page, a community fundraising officer with Beat, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the Rotary Club of Perth for choosing to raise awareness of eating disorders.

“The rally is going to be an exciting day and we hope that everybody enjoys soaking up the incredible Perthshire views.

“In 2023, Public Health Scotland reported that disordered eating symptoms increased by over a quarter in the last five years and, sadly, we know that eating disorder support is needed more today than ever before.

“The funds raised by the car tour will help us to keep providing phone calls, webchat and online group support to people with eating disorders as well as their loved ones.”

Morna Simpkins, a director of MS Society Scotland, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Perth and, in particular, the organisers of this year’s Perthshire Classic Car Tour for choosing to support us.

“More than 15,000 people in Scotland live with Multiple Sclerosis and, every week, 14 new people receive an MS diagnosis.

“MS is a condition that affects the brain and spinal cord, which impacts how people move, think and feel. Symptoms are different for everybody and often invisible.

“The MS Society Scotland is here to make life better for people affected by MS. We offer emotional support and information via our MS helpline, and provide online webinars, courses and sessions through our LivingWell programme. We campaign to improve the rights of people with MS and their carers, and fund ground-breaking research.

“It’s thanks to our wonderful and generous supporters, such as the Rotary Club of Perth, that we’re able to continue this vital work. We hope everyone has a fantastic time on the tour and raises lots of funds and awareness for both charities.’

Joe Cairns is chair of the Perthshire Classic Car Tour committee and said: “We know that eating disorders and MS impact so many people – not just those who are currently unwell, but also their family and friends.

“We’ve heard good things about the incredible work that Beat and the MS Society Scotland do and we felt compelled to raise funds for them.”

Perth Rotary Club gears up for Perthshire Classic Car Tour 2023

Perthshire Classic Car Tour 2023

Members of Perth Rotary Club are gearing up for their spectacular Perthshire Classic Car Tour 2023 on Sunday 23 April and we’re delighted to be working with them again as a beneficiary charity. It’s a unique tour event, with 120 entries available – sign up now to take part !

It’s one of Scotland’s premier motoring events with a stunning route through Glencoe.  Drivers and passengers can also join a fantastic celebratory gathering at the finish at Crieff Hydro Hotel. Entries are invited from drivers of vintage, historic and classic cars, including modern sports cars. We’re thrilled that so many drivers have already signed up.

In 2022, Perth Rotarians raised a phenomenal £28,432 through this event – a fantastic achievement!  The event is generously supported by several local businesses too.

About the route

Up to 120 classic cars will assemble at McDiarmid Park Perth, home of St Johnstone Football Club before being flagged off by the Provost of Perth & Kinross, at the podium at McDiarmid Park, before journeying north through rural Perthshire along the banks of Loch Tay and on to Glencoe where lunch will be available at the Isles of Glencoe Hotel. The return route will be south through Glencoe and along Loch Earn and Comrie before finishing at Crieff Hydro Hotel for a Gala Dinner, Awards Ceremony, Auction and Raffle.

About Perth Rotary Club

Perth Rotary Club is one of 88 clubs in Rotary District 1010 – North Scotland and celebrated their centenary year in 2017.  Serving their community and financially supporting local charities has underpinned the Club since its incorporation.  Their main fundraiser, the Silent Auction, is a well established and popular event as are their other fund raising activities, with an annual golf competition and an annual Fayre held in Perth.

Since 2017, Perth Rotary Club has held four classic car events. These have raised over a magnificent £100,000 for charities. We’re delighted to be nominated again as a beneficiary of their Perthshire Classic Car Tour alongside Alzheimer Scotland and Carers Trust Scotland.

Head to the Perthshire Classic Car Tour website for more details and how to enter

While there is no entry fee, entrants are asked to raise sponsorship or make a donation of at least £60.00 per car.  (This is payable to the Rotary Club of Perth Community Account). Entry includes a Tour Plate for each car, a Road Book and Map and Goody Bag.

What’s more, drivers have the opportunity to win some great prizes, including:

  • oldest car to complete the Tour
  • car driven the furthest to participate
  • Spirit of the Tour
  • best period costume

We’d like to say a very big thank you to Perth Rotary Club for their tremendous dedication and efforts in organising and hosting the Perthshire Classic Car Tour in aid of our work.  Our thanks also go to the several local businesses for their generosity in sponsoring and donating prizes to this event.

The 2022 Perth Classic Car Show is on 1st May at Ascot Raceway, proudly sponsored by @Shannons Insurance

This is a licenced event and ticketed. We will have carnival rides, side show alley and pin up parade.

Website https://www.classiccarshow.com.au/

This event runs 10am to 3pm.

History of this event.

In 1969 five British motoring clubs came together in King's Park, Perth to put on a combined display. 60 cars attended. The event was so successful that it was repeated again the following year, with more clubs attending. The event continued to grow until by the mid-1970s several hundred cars were attending. The coordination of a multi-club car show led to the formation of a coordinating body - the Combined Car Clubs (CMC).

The CMC has subsequently grown to become a representative body that liaises with government and the community on matters that affect the classic motoring community and the Classic Car Show has become THE major event on the motoring calendar. The show draws around 1000 vehicles of all types, representing the diversity and vibrancy of Perth's motoring community.
