  • Convenience: With an eSIM, there is no need to physically insert a SIM card into your phone or worry about losing it.
  • Flexibility: Unlike traditional SIM cards tied to a specific carrier or plan, eSIMs allow you to switch carriers or plans more easily.
  • Coverage: With an eSIM, you can access multiple networks and carriers, improving your coverage and connectivity in areas with weaker signals.
  • Environmentally friendly: Using an eSIM can also be more environmentally friendly, as it eliminates the need for physical SIM cards, which can contribute to e-waste.

Sukannee Lertsukwibul , Head of Prepaid Market & Product Division, Total Access Communication Public Co., Ltd., or dtac said, “dtac is the leader and the first service provider in the market for tourist SIM cards.  And to build on our success into the 9th year, we have decided to launch the all-new ‘dtac Happy Tourist SIM’ to extend our gratitude while offering visitors to Thailand an extraordinary travelling experience on their mobile smartphones with a super-value 15 GB data service that is the fastest and strongest in the industry at a price of only Bht 299 – all to ensure that visitors will happily travel in Thailand, being able to post, like, share or call happily in ‘More & Beyond’ fashion throughout the festive seasons of the New Year and Chinese New Year.”

“In 2018, we recorded 38 million international travellers to Thailand, resulting in the growth in the market value for prepaid tourist SIM cards and ‘dtac Happy Tourist SIM’ was one of the drivers behind the growth of dtac’s prepaid tourist SIM cards during the third quarter of the year,” said Sukannee.

Today, there is a change in how international visitors travel in Thailand from group tour in the past to personally planned visits in smaller groups or solo travel.  For example, 64% of Chinese visitors are free independent travelers who prefer to search online for exotic sites on their own.  Koreans often travel with friends or lovers and love to share photos on social media.  Indian visitors prefer family trips and are happy to spend on dining, shopping and they focus on activities for the whole family and use the Internet to post on Facebook.  Russians rely on travel tips and reviews searched from the Internet and security is their top priority and they use their mobile phones to primarily call home or fellow travelers.

“Despite the change in travel lifestyles and the differences of tourists from individual countries, there is a common need among travelers worldwide.  They all look for strong and smooth quality Internet access.  dtac has continually developed its products and services to meet that need.  And we are now ready to offer something More & Beyond in the all-new dtac Happy Tourist SIM.  In addition to ‘Happy Network’ that ensures smooth, uninterrupted access to a maximum data service of 15 GB for basic customer needs, users are entitled to ‘Happy Privileges’ that offer deals and privileges in collaboration with dtac partners in restaurants, department stores, lifestyle and travel, to ensure VIP-status customer service.  ‘Happy Services’ are available to boost confidence through our Call Center 1678 where we have multilingual staffs to talk to tourists in Chinese, English and other languages.  They are ready to take care of tourists and help them throughout their travel,” Sukannee concluded.

Best Thailand Prepaid Sim Card for Tourists

DIscounted Thailand Sim Card - DTAC

What's In This Guide?

Wi-Fi is quite common in Thailand, and with decent connection speeds. However, you won’t always find Wi-Fi hotspots when you are traveling around the city or in more remote areas.

10 years ago, I honestly wouldn’t have cared about getting a prepaid sim card with internet data. I was happy to totally disconnect and go with the flow. However, travel has changed.

We rely on travel blogs for advice, Google Maps for directions, comparison websites for hotel bookings, social media to stay in contact, and so much more. Now a $10 sim card, can save you way more money than that.

How many times have you found a better hotel deal by comparing the price online? Agoda, Booking, HotelsCombined. It only takes one saving to pay off the phone sim card.

Can you even imagine trying to find your travel friends these days by saying “I’ll meet you at the temple entrance by the Buhhda tomorrow at 9am” no phone, no messenger?

Nup… I’ll take the sim card any day of the week.

I highly suggest getting this tourist sim card by DTAC . If you purchase online through my favorite Thai travel company (TakeMeTour) you will also get a discount. No worries, it’s on me.

Which Companies Offer Sim Cards in Thailand?

There are three major telecommunications companies in Thailand available to tourists; AIS, DTAC, and True. Sure, there may be others out there, but they aren’t very common.

DTAC is part of the mega Norwegian telecommunications company called Telenor. They offer phone services all around Asia and Europe and therefore have phone pretty awesome deals going on.

AIS is the Thai competitor of DTAC. Some say that AIS offers the best coverage across Thailand, however, I’ve never experienced any issues with DTAC. The AIS packages are also slightly more expensive.

True offer the True Move tourist sim. This is a mistake I made once before, and never again. The marketing is so misleading. It has internet data which is only possible to use via designated True Move hot spots. That’s just like having a very limited free Wi-Fi system.

What is the Price of a Tourist Sim Card?

The prepaid sim card price depends on three factors; how many days you want to use the sim card, how much data you want to use, and how much call credit you want.

DTAC’s Happy Tourist Sim is the best option available.

It offers 8 days UNLIMITED data for 235 THB (USD 7.50). That’s less than one dollar per day! Click here to pre-purchase with a discount now.

While the data is unlimited, the first 3 GB is at maximum speed, and further downloads are at 384 kB/s. That’s still fine for web browsing, uploading photos to Insta, and using Google Maps.

After the first 8 days, you can extend the unlimited data for another 7 days for just 160 THB (USD 5). And so on…

You also get 100 THB of call credit which can be topped up in convenience stores at any time. Local calls cost 1 THB per minute, so it should be plenty for your trip when required.

In comparison, AIS offers an 8 day Traveller Sim for 299 THB with similar conditions. However, I am not so sure that this card can be renewed as cheaply as DTAC.

As mentioned above, I won’t even go into the option offered by True Move. It’s terrible.

Where Can You Pick Up a Thailand Sim Card?

Warning: stores in smaller shopping centers and 7/11 convenience stores will NOT sell a 4G data prepaid sim card to tourists. They are required to complete a process where your passport details are collected. This is only done at airports and major stores.

The best place to get a prepaid sim card is at the airport when you enter the country. There are stores at the front of the airport terminal at both Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang Airport.

Use this link to pre-purchase the sim card online now and get a 22% discount .

Pick up your sim card at the counter in the airport simply by showing your purchase confirmation. The pickup counter is just outside the main arrivals door, near the ATMs and minivan booths.

Tip: I suggest taking a screenshot of the purchase confirmation straight away as you won’t have any internet before getting that sim.

If you miss out on picking up a sim card at the airport, then you can also buy one at a major AIS and DTAC store. In Bangkok, the major stores are located at CentralWorld and Siam Paragon.

Got any questions about getting a prepaid sim card in Thailand? Ask me in the comments section below. I’ll be happy to help.

We found the issue with your order, the QR code was not auto-sent. We have now sent your QR code via email and also available in

You need to activate the ESIM first in Thailand. Once it is Active, you will be able to receive SMS in your number.

The best practice is to buy the eSIM 1-2 weeks in advance. You can activate it anytime you want, and on the day of your trip, select SIM2Fly as your default data SIM network. After this the usage of your data will start

Klook DTAC Happy Tourist SIM – Cheapest Thailand SIM Card With 4G Data (3GB) For 8 Days

During my recent trip to Khao Yai and Bangkok , I bought the DTAC Happy Tourist SIM Card from Klook. At only THB 131 , it was the cheapest Thailand SIM card I could find online. It provided really good connectivity throughout my holiday, both in the rural areas of Khao Yai and in bustling Bangkok city. This is my full review of the DTAC Happy Tourist SIM card.

DTAC Happy Tourist SIM

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

4G 8 Day SIM card (3GB)

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

After you finish using the 3GB, you will still have access to unlimited data usage, but at a pitiful speed of 384kbps .

The Happy Tourist SIM also comes preloaded with THB 100 call credits , which is equivalent to around 30 minutes of local talk time.

The SIM card comes with Standard, Micro and Nano size adaptors.

Lowest Price Currently, the SIM card sells for just THB 131 on Klook, which is the cheapest Thailand SIM card I can find. And interestingly, if you buy from the official DTAC site, it is more than twice as expensive at THB 299.

“Unlimited” Data? DTAC markets this SIM card as having “unlimited data” after you finish using the initial 3GB, but as mentioned earlier, the unlimited data only has a speed of 384kbps. To get an idea of how fast (or slow) this speed is, we can use this article you are reading as an example.

This simple page has a size of about 1.3MB, which means technically you would need around 3.4 seconds (1300KB divided by 384KB) to load it, which is essentially forever by today’s internet speed standards.

If you are wondering why this is the case, it is due to Thailand’s fair data usage policy. This is basically a way for mobile providers to force you to limit your data usage. Maybe it’s because they want to prevent jamming of the internet bandwidths, or maybe it’s because they just don’t like to see people enjoying fast internet speeds.

In any case, once you hit a certain data limit, your internet speed will be “throttled”, meaning that it will be reduced significantly. For this Happy SIM 4G 8 Day SIM card, the threshold is 3GB.

To be fair, this is just not the case for Thailand. Many countries implement this draconian fair usage policy as well, including Japan and Malaysia .

Staying More Than 8 Days If you will be staying in Bangkok for more than 8 days, you can purchase a Day Pass by using the THB100 credit that comes with the SIM card package.

You just need to download the DTAC app to purchase it. You can also get it over the counter at any DTAC shop in major shopping malls. (credit to my reader “Lui” who provided this tip).

Purchasing Additional Data I also saw on the Klook website instructions on how to purchase additional 4G data. For example, you can get an extra 9 GB of data for THB106 by dialling a series of complicated numbers. You can check it out on the Klook website – the instructions are enclosed in a yellow box with the heading “Insider Tips”.

Cancellation Policy You can get a full refund as long as you cancel your booking at least 24 hours before your collection date. I like this policy because it gives me the flexibility to buy another SIM card if I find a better deal.

4G 15 Day SIM card (8 GB)

There is also another Happy Tourist SIM card which offers 8GB of 4G data for 15 days. You can check it out here . I usually just take short trips of a week or less to Bangkok, so this is not really suitable for me.

Fast and Reliable Connectivity

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

The wife and I had no problems with the Happy Tourist SIM card throughout our holiday. In rural Khao Yai, our speed got reduced to 3G sometimes. But it was definitely still fast enough for our internet needs, such as checking Google maps, surfing the web, Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, etc. In downtown Bangkok, we enjoyed strong 4G data most of the time.

The THB 100 call credits were quite useful too. For example, I called the Let’s Relax spa in Siam Square to make massage appointments (I spoke English).

1. First, I went to the  Klook DTAC Happy Tourist SIM website.

2. Next, I selected the BKK Suvarnabhumi Airport pickup option, along with the quantity and date of collection. You can also choose to collect at Siam Center or DMK Don Muang Airport. After my purchase, Klook emailed me the voucher immediately. It was also uploaded into my Klook App under “bookings”.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

3. After going out from the Suvarnabhumi Airport Arrival Hall, I took the escalator down two floors to the basement level. Then, I followed the signs and walked in the direction of the Airport Rail Link Station for about 5 minutes. After that, I located the Klook counter at booth RC6. You can check out the map above.

There was no queue when I arrived at around 4pm on a Tuesday. I was lucky because a short queue formed behind me while I was collecting the SIM cards. You can see the picture of the counter above. The counter opens daily from 8am to 11pm.

In total, I took about 10 minutes to get to the booth from the arrival hall. It wasn’t difficult to locate the booth, but it did take some time.

4. At the counter, a rather stoic Klook staff scanned the Klook voucher QR code on my phone, and then activated both SIM cards. She helped me to insert the SIM card into my phone on the spot, and it worked immediately.

How to Unlock SIM Card

If your SIM card is locked to your carrier, you will not be able to use the Happy Tourist SIM card. Personally I have always been able to use foreign SIM cards without any problems because phones in Singapore are not telco-locked. Below are the steps to unlock your SIM:

Step 1. First, check whether your phone is indeed SIM locked. Insert a SIM card from another carrier (borrow from your friends or family) and restart the phone. If there is a signal and you can make outgoing calls, then your SIM is not locked. If not, proceed to step 2.

Step 2. Contact your carrier and ask them to unlock your phone. Repeat step 1 to check that your SIM is indeed unlocked.

6 Comments and Questions

Thank you for this detailed review. This was exactly what I was looking for. I was going to buy this SIM in Klook, but then wanted to check out some reviews first. So yours helped much =)

I have one question though. Both the DTAC and the Klook websites say that this Happy Tourism 299 Sim Card allows FREE CALLING to other users using a similar Happy Tourism 299 SIM card. Were you and your wife able to make free calls between your 2 numbers? Or were you together all the time, which could have eliminated the need to call one another? =D

We are going there as a family for a 6 day tour. Meaning, we might be buying 2 or 3 SIM cards from Klook. If we do so, the free calling among our new DTAC numbers would definitely help. Which would in turn enable us to use the 100 Baht credits to make only international calls back home. And home would be Chennai, India =)

Hello Sivabhaskar, you are very welcome! Glad you found my review useful.

Yes you are right we didn’t call each other because we were together all the time haha. In fact, I was not even aware of this unlimited calls perk. Therefore, I’m sorry I can’t advise you on it. Do kindly let me know if it works after your trip! =)

Just to share additional info.

You can purchase Day Pass by using the 100THB credit that comes with the SIM card package if you intend to stay more than 8 days.

Simply download DTAC app to your smartphone to purchase it. Or, you can walk in any DTAC counter at major shopping mall to ask for assistance.

Thanks so much for your tip, I have updated my article as well.

Any idea what are the opening hours for the DTAC Counter at Don Muang Airport (DMK)? Is it open 24 hours?

Hi Christopher, yes per the Klook website it is open 24 hours.

This is the Best Travel eSIM for Thailand!? [My review on dtac Tourist eSIM]

In-depth article on possibly the most cost-effective and reliable eSIM for travel in Thailand.

shuhei

Thailand, one of the world's top tourist destinations, attracts countless travelers each year. As "travel eSIMs" gain rapid popularity among international tourists, the options for prepaid eSIMs for travelers to Thailand have significantly increased in the last couple of yers.

However, with more choices available, it can become challenging to decide which eSIM to choose.

That’s exactly why I took the time to carefully research and hand-pick one of the most promising eSIM options tailored for travelers visiting Thailand 🇹🇭, tested locally, and compiled the information in this article.

If you are planning to travel or go on a business trip to Thailand and are considering using an eSIM for mobile internet (which you definitely should), I hope this article proves useful.

The travel eSIMs featured in this article are hand-picked from the travel eSIM comparison website "eSIMDB" . There are many other eSIMs and data plans available on eSIMDB, so be sure to check them out 👇 before you make the final decision.

dtac Happy Tourist eSIM Overview

One of the major Thai telecoms, dtac, offers a tourist SIM card called Happy Tourist SIM , and they have an eSIM version of that which provides incredible value for money, making it my No.1 recommended eSIM for Thailand.

The physical SIM card version has been a popular tourist SIM for a long time, and is sold at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), Don Mueang Airport (DMK), Phuket Airport, Chiang Rai Airport, and other airports. This Happy Tourist SIM from dtac is likely one of the most purchased tourist SIM cards in Thailand (definitely top 3 in my opinion).

While the AIS " SIM2Fly " is another well-known SIM brand for Thai travel, dtac's Happy Tourist SIM offers better value.

I'll cover the actual connectivity quality in a later section, but so far, this eSIM version seems to be arguably the best travel eSIM option available in Thailand .

*However, if you'll be traveling to quite remote areas within Thailand, I'd recommend checking dtac's service area (cellular coverage) first.

Plans and Prices for Happy Tourist eSIM

*The plans and pricing information is current as of the time of writing. Prices may be cheaper during promotions, etc. and additional plan options could be introduced.

While there used to be only 2 plans available, the dtac official product page for tourist now lists 6 plans.

They can be grouped into the following two types:

  • dtac Happy Tourist Infinite SIM (New unlimited plan)
  • dtac Happy Tourist SIM

Both types include a Thai phone number (+66) and allows you to make calls and send SMS, which is a strong selling point in my opinion. And of course, eSIM version is available for both types.

Happy Tourist Infinite SIM

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

Simply put, this type comes with unlimited mobile data and unlimited calls within Thailand.

There are 3 plans available based on the number of valid days. The details are summarized in the table below.

*All available in eSIM version.

As you can see in the table above, aside from the validity and prices, the plan details are exactly the same.

The official selling price is 449 - 1,199 THB, but each reseller sets their own price. Will explain it the Where and how to buy section.

Happy Tourist SIM

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

This is the original, standard Happy Tourist SIM. It's more affordable than the Infinite plans, and personally, I recommend this one more.

There are 3 plans available based on the data allowance and valid period:

*Calls to dtac numbers are free.

*While dtac WiFi access isn't explicitly mentioned, I was able to use it in Bangkok. So it seems dtac WiFi usage is also unlimited.

Among these, I personally recommend the "50GB / 10 Days" plan . Here are the benefits of the 50GB plan:

✅ Even if you use up 50GB of data, you can still use unlimited data at a reduced speed (normally 384kbps, but promotions sometimes increase it to 15Mbps)

✅ Unlimited calls to dtac numbers

✅ Up to 100 minutes of free calls to non-dtac numbers within Thailand

✅ Unlimited chat on 5 messaging apps like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp

✅ Unlimited dtac WiFi usage

If you think you'll use over 50GB in 10 days, then of course you should consider the unlimited plans, but normally, I don't think most people use 5GB per day, so 50GB should be more than enough.

Also, having up to 100 minutes of free calls (to non-dtac numbers) for 10 days is plenty for normal tourism purposes.

So there are hardly any downsides to this plan.

The only drawback I can think of is the 10-day validity period. If you're staying in Thailand for more than 10 days, you could either choose the (pricier) 30-day unlimited plan, or just buy multiple 50GB plans. Alternatively, some of the other eSIMs you can find on eSIMDB might fit your needs and itinerary better.

Where and How to Buy It (My Recommendations)

While it seems like this eSIM can now be purchased directly from dtac's official website (which wasn't possible before), the process was terrible when I tried, requiring passport or ID upload and getting stuck midway.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

So personally, I recommend purchasing from one of dtac's official reseller partners instead. It's not only easier but also tends to be cheaper .

The number of reseller partners has been increasing, and currently there are 8 companies listed on the official website. Of course, regardless of where you buy it from, the eSIM itself is the same.

Recommended Reseller No.1: Nomad

Nomad undoubtedly offers one of the best user experiences when it comes to travel eSIMs. Sometimes the number of their offerings can be a bit overwhelming, but they are usually very affordable.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

On Nomad, the 50GB / 10 Days plan is $8.

Plus, using the promo code " ESIMDB3 " gives you a $3 discount . The code can only be used once, but if it works for you, this could be the cheapest way to buy one.

Both their website and mobile app have a simple design, and the purchase process is very straightforward.

Again, use "ESIMDB3" to get $3 OFF.

Recommended Reseller No.2: Airalo

Airalo , arguably the most well-known brand in the travel eSIM industry, is also one of the recommended partners for purchasing the dtac Happy Tourist eSIM.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

The sale prices on Airalo are:

  • 50GB / 10 Days : $9.90
  • Unlimited 15 Days : $19.95

Additionally, using the promo code " ESIMDB10 " gives you a 10% discount on the purchase amount.

With this discount, the 50GB plan comes to under $9, which is probably cheaper than buying from the official website.

I've personally used Airalo many times before and considering online payments, they're more trustworthy than dtac's official site.

  • How to buy and install Airalo eSIM

Other Reseller Options

The pricing for dtac's eSIM is essentially open, so each reseller sets their own prices for sales. So you might be able to find somewhere selling it cheaper than Nomad or Airalo.

Here are some resellers with relatively low prices, generally speaking.

eSIMX is a relatively new player in the travel eSIM market, but they prices are very competitive.

On their Thailand eSIM page , make sure to select " VOICE, DATA, SMS " tab.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

The 50GB plan is sold at $8.27. And using the promo code " ESIMDB10 " gives you an additional 10% OFF , bringing it under $8.

MobiMatter is another company / website selling the dtac Happy Tourist eSIM.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

MobiMatter has very competitive prices in general, typically cheaper than most of the official resellers.

15GB / 8 Days plan is currently sold at $7.99 on their site.

Installing eSIM

This time, I bought a Happy Tourist eSIM 50GB Plan from Nomad . And they sent me a QR code to install eSIM right after the purchase is complete.

  • How to install eSIM on iPhone with QR code

Installing / activating an eSIM on your phone is a straightforward process and should complete in a minute or two. Just tap, tap, tap, and done.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

Once it's installed, it probably shows " Activating... " but it's normal if you are outside of Thailand.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

Whenever you install a prepaid / travel eSIM, I highly recommend updating the Cellular Plan Label to easily identify the eSIM and distinguish it from other cellular plans on your phone. I usually do so with a country flag emoji to make it even easier to spot.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

I successfully installed the eSIM on my iPhone 15 Pro the day before my trip. (FYI, the plan validity starts from this point). It's generally recommended to install pior to the trip.

Testing in Bangkok

  • The connectivity / speed tests were conducted in Bangkok and its surrounding tourist areas.
  • Tested in May 2024

After arriving at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), I turned on the dtac Happy Tourist eSIM, set it for Cellular Data, and I was able to connect to the internet within seconds.

As expected, local eSIMs seem to connect quickly. No Data Roaming or other settings were necessary.

In Bangkok, I was connected to dtac's 5G almost the entire time. (Occasionally on 4G.)

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

For some reason, the carrier display name is the rather long " dtac.Better Together ".

Speed Tests

From left to right are the speed test results near Phrom Phong BTS Station, around Terminal 21, and at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

Being a local eSIM, the Ping is good at around 30 ms. Both download and upload speeds are quite satisfactory too considering it's a prepaid travel eSIM. (Not comparable to the 5G experience you'd get in developed countries though.)

There were times when the speed temporarily dropped, but overall the speeds were as good as I expected it to be at least. I never experienced any noticeable packet congestion.

In addition to Bangkok, I also stayed in Hua Hin for a few days. There were no issues with signal conditions there too, and I was able to use mobile internet comfortably the entire time.

I also used tethering (internet sharing) quite heavily, but this too worked without any problems.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

How to Check Data Balance and Plan Expiry Date

Unfortunately, checking data balance for dtac's Happy Tourist eSIM is a bit troublesome.

You need to access the following dtac webpage, click the "Check balance, Top-up and Add-On Package" at the bottom of the page, enter your phone number, receive a one-time password (OTP) via SMS.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

As for the call credit balance and plan expiration date, you can check by dialing the following number from the phone app:

Dial *101*9# and tap 📞

Within a few seconds, you'll receive the information via SMS like this:

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

Final Thoughts

dtac Happy Tourist eSIM, regardless of which plan you choose, undoubtedly offers great value for money. Based on my own positive experience using this eSIM in Thailand, I can confidently recommend it as your top choice for the following reasons:

✅ Affordable pricing (50GB / 10 Day plan for under $10, Unlimited 15 Day plan for under $20)

✅ Local connection without roaming = low latency (less sluggish) compared to roaming eSIMs

✅ Call credit included + Unlimited domestic calls to dtac numbers

✅ Fulfills typical travel connectivity needs with reliable cellular performance (though not super fast)

✅ Robust coverage in the majority of Thai cities (though AIS is probably better for very rural areas)

✅ Supports Personal Hotspot (tethering) to connect multiple devices

If you are traveling more than 10 or 15 days, you'd have to either buy multiple eSIMs or you might want to find a different eSIM with a longer validity from eSIMDB 👇.

Klook’s dtac Happy Tourist Super 4G 8 Day Unlimited Data SIM Card: Convenient 24 Hours Pick Up at Bangkok Don Mueang DMK Airport Klook Counter

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

Arriving from my flight and exiting immigration and customs at Bangkok Don Mueang Airport past midnight, I opted to get my Thailand SIM Card from  Klook this time as they offer a 24-hour pick-up service at Bangkok Don Mueang Airport (DMK). It costed just S$5.50 (~THB 150) for the DTAC Happy Tourist Super 4G 8 Day SIM Card , which offers unlimited data usage, and is about half the recommended retail price of THB 299.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

The Klook pick-up spot is towards Arrival Hall Gate 2 .

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

Look out for the Klook sign near the escalator.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

Klook ‘s staff will be waiting at the designated area.

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

Pick up is available 24 hours  at Don Mueang Airport (DMK).

dtac happy tourist sim 8 days

I passed my phone to the staff to redeem my  Klook voucher (screenshot-ed the voucher on the  Klook app before departing from Singapore as I have no internet in DMK yet), and they helped me to insert and activate my  dtac Happy Tourist Super 4G 8 Day SIM Card on my phone.

Most of the time, it’s just a simple plug-and-play process, but in case there are issues following the activation, here are the  APN Settings for dtac :

  • Name: dtac internet
  • APN: http://www.dtac.co.th
  • Username: not set
  • Password: not set
  • APN type: Default

You probably won’t need this information as the  Klook staff will fix up the internet before returning the phone to you.

Here’s a recap of the SIM Card details:

DMK Don Muang Airport (Klook Pick Up Spot) Package Details Inclusive Of:

  • dtac Happy Tourist Super 4G 8 Day SIM Card (available in Standard, Micro or Nano size)
  • Maximum 4G speed of up to 3GB usage
  • Speed drops to 384 kbps (3G speed) after using up 3GB (unlimited data usage)
  • Prepaid THB100 call credits (equivalent to approximately 30 minutes of talk time)
  • 4G/3G speeds will depend on the coverage area

As you can see, it’s pretty much the exact same thing as the 299 Baht dtac Happy Tourist SIM , so you should just get your Thailand SIM Card off Klook instead at literally half the price.

By ThaiLife February 10, 2010 in Mobile Devices and Apps

Recommended Posts

I have been using the Dtac extend the validity of your SIM card option, for up to 365 days by doing this ...

Dial *1013, listen to the prompt and dial 9 for English

Follow the step by step procedure ( press 1 )

You will get an SMS confirming the new validity of your SIM card.

The cost was ...

2 Baht for 30 days

6 Baht for 90 days

12 Baht for 180 days (up to 365 Days).

Ive just tried this again and it seems not to be working , any one else been using this extend the validity of your SIM card option

and can you get it to work ?

Did you get a new sim card/number or using the original one you used this extension with? If you have extended your previous number for 365 days then it's a rolling 365 days. I did mine a few years ago and whenever I top up the expiration changes to 1 year from that topup automatically. Never had to reactivate the extension. If you have an extension already it may not allow it to be increased as it is at max already.

Do you periodically check your expiration to see if moves when you top up.

Takes about 24 hours to activate.

:)

Here is a topic on it > http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Happy-Dtac-R...ml#entry1289678

A simpler method of getting the extension without having to go through the 'press 1 for...' routine is the following: 2) apply via Express Mobile Service at *113* following with number of required usage date and then press #, and apply via www.happy.co.th. The system will send SMS to confirm once a request is completed. Example: *113*180# and you have a 180 day extension. I punched it in twice (365 days max) and now have service until this time next year

If that doesn't work then try contacting their main help line.

Well, that was easy!

Now, I know I have 53 days left on my year set up, when, someone set that up for me last year...!

Well, that was easy! Thanks Torrenova! for the link... The whole web page in English too... Now, I know I have 53 days left on my year set up, when, someone set that up for me last year...!

You can swap credit for validity, set up international roaming and even view the last 2 months of your calls, sms history and any data usage. Loads of useful stuff as well actually. I have been well impressed with it for years now.

If your sim card is less than 90 days old you can not do this ..... is there something else I can do to keep the sim active until I return in 90 ish days?

Hi If your sim card is less than 90 days old you can not do this ..... is there something else I can do to keep the sim active until I return in 90 ish days? Cheers Spud

Answering my own question ..... I tried again today and it let me extend OK.

The sim has to be active for 90 days plus, or usage more than 100B.

Now valid for 211 days :-)

tutsiwarrior

I bought a DTAC 'happy instant sim' when I arrived at the airport back in Sept and then registered the sim on the spot using my passport number...with registration I presumed that the sim will always remain valid even without activity for 2-3 months...am I mistaken?

in the past I had an AIS sim card and when I left Thailand for work the 'balance' function always indicated that the card was good for a year and when I returned a few months later the card had expired...

when I leave again to go back to work for 3 months is there anything further that I have to do to keep my sim valid like dial *1031 or an arrangement with DTAC on the internet?...or is registering the card when I bought it at the airport a guarantee of continued validity?

doubt for the new card you will have long validity? Most of the new sim will probably come with one month. As like said previous, you will have to meet certain usage and number of days and then you apply to get the 1yr validity. After that it will be all good

...or is registering the card when I bought it at the airport a guarantee of continued validity?

The registering of SIM cards started several years ago by law in an effort to track down owners of mobile phones used in remotely-triggered bomb attacks. I don't think it has anything to do with permanency or extended validity.

[edited to remove info already provided above in thread]

You can also dial one of the following codes to extend credit time for 30, 90, or 180 days respectively.

This so-called "Simple SIM" plan gives 90 days with any top-up: http://www.happy.co.th/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=91&Itemid=64〈=en

This SIM never expires: http://www.happy.co.th/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=89&Itemid=37〈=en but does require usage at least once every 43 days.

You can also dial one of the following codes to extend credit time for 30, 90, or 180 days respectively. *113*30# *113*90# *113*180# This so-called "Simple SIM" plan gives 90 days with any top-up: http://www.happy.co....emid=64〈=en This SIM never expires: http://www.happy.co....emid=37〈=en but does require usage at least once every 43 days.

Thank you for this, you just saved me some money,

OK, I just did *113*180# on my happy 'instant SIM' and now when I dial the 'check balance' number I'm told that the balance is good for 342 days...but if I go away for 3 months and the SIM is not in use do I lose it?...if the SIM becomes inactive from lack of use can it be re-activated?

^ You should contact DTAC on 1678. Typically the terms and conditions of your current calling plan, promotion or SIM detail any usage requirements, and remain unaffected by the expiration date. Many, but not all, calling plans, promotions and SIMs do have an activity requirement so that you need to originate a call or SMS at least once every 90 days. Some service providers allowed extended grace periods but I suspect numbers are being recycled more quickly to avoid having to buy new blocks? YMMV.

Been using DTAC/prepaid since 2007 and so far my simcard was always valid for 12 months since last refill. This has apparently changed and 100 baht topup gives me only 45 days.

There is no way to purchase extended validity online if simcard is not registered. There is no way to register simcard online unless phone is in Thailand to receive access code.

Fortunately found DTAC Customer Service accessible from overseas number and they were able to extend validity for 12 months for 24baht.

"Good to know : Our dtac call center operates 24 hours everyday to assist you in roaming service. Please call us at +662 202 7100"

daxbr thanks for your post, I was just able to extend my validity for a month, cost only 2 tb by calling the number you provided.

I always recommend people enable International Roaming, and enroll in Happy eServices. The latter can be done on-line and is quite easy - among the many, many things you can do is originate SMSes. You could also carry some top-up cards with you and top up remotely, or ask someone in Thailand to send you a top-up code. Assuming you are in a GSM country then you can originate/receive USSD (like *104*9# for free) and SMSes, including OTPs (one time passwords).

I think that people confuse individual top-ups and validity quite often. They tend to top-up before expiration thus adding to their "validity bank", so they might get to the point where they have 330 days validity, and top-up in an amount which might yield 45 days. But since the maximum validity one can have is 365 days it looks like you ended up with one year on that single top-up.

There are also a whole slew of top-up "promotions". For example,

- Every time you top up a Simple SIM (activated since 26 July 2011), the 90 validity days will be added to your account (100 days will be added for 800 Baht top up) within 24 Hours after topping up. Validity days can be accumulated up to a maximum of 365 days.

- Every time you top up a Simple SIM (activated before 26 July 2011) or Muan Suen SIM (activated before 22 February 2011), the validity period will be extended to 365 days within 24 Hours after topping up. Validity days can be accumulated up to a maximum of 365 days.

I want to increase the validity of my happy sim but it says the sim has to be used for more than 9 days or 100 baht of usuage. Is there anything else I could do to increase my validity?? Please help!

Add another top-up to cover the 9 day, or

Use 100 baht, or

Change to the Kong Kra Pun promotion, or

Ring 1678 and ask for guidance.

Are you able to describe your situation? Did you just get the SIM? Which one? Which promotion? Are you in Thailand for a while?

does it work to extend ? And what is the validity for a new Dtac card ?

How long can you be called without recharging and before they stop the number ?

Hello, does it work to extend ? And what is the validity for a new Dtac card ? How long can you be called without recharging and before they stop the number ? Thank you.

does it work to extend ? Yes

And what is the validity for a new Dtac card ? , Depends on the SIM, but generally 90 days, I think.

How long can you be called without recharging and before they stop the number ? You'd have to review the T's & C's, but I think this might be +90 days after balance reaches zero, or until after validity expiration date.

  • 1 month later...

Thank you so much.

It seems that Dtac website and audio services are not updated compared to 12call.

Also, it is weird that it is not possible to by credit on Dtac website by using credit card (if it is to use a refill card I wonder what is the need to check online)

  • 3 weeks later...
It is still possible to extend validity for 180 days by dialing *1013 but the SIM card must be activated since 90 days at least.
  • 2 weeks later...

Actually I was wrong, it seems that the service is offered when calling *1013 but the SMS confirmation always replies: FAILED

Any more information ?

NOT WORKING ALSO:

This is a much quicker way to extend credit validity.

Dial one of the following codes to extend credit time for 30, 90, or 180 days respectively.
