Simple & Affordable

Hear from some people who love using it.

My husband and I are full time RVers in a 45ft 5th wheel toy hauler. I use RV Trip Wizard to plan our route. It has made my trip planning so much easier since I can filter out campgrounds that cannot accommodate our trailer. The ability to check reviews and to go to the campgrounds' websites from the app is also extremely useful. I recommend RV Trip Wizard to other RVers all the time.

rv travel sites

If you are worried about low bridges on your trip or where the best, low cost parks are, worry no more because this App is absolutely the best RV trip planer out there. We've tried them all and this ones smokes them all. Spot on! If you have a smart phone or a tablet, RV Trip Wizard works with either, we absolutely rely on it and would not leave our home without planning our route with this tool first. Highly recommend it…

rv travel sites

We took a 3 month trip last year and I looked for a good trip planner. I tried winging it with google earth and researching the internet at first. Then I found RV Trip Wizard. I thought I try it. Just a few hours in to planning our trip I was hooked. It has everything I need to plan our trips. Way worth the small price. And the great part it's got better since last years trip. They keep adding and making it better all the time. I've got this years about ready to go and a few small side trips already planned.

RV campgrounds can be as small as a few dozen sites to booming resorts with hundreds of sites, catering to RVs of every type and size. Some RVers prefer the simple solitude of campgrounds that provide just the basics of electricity and freshwater at the site. Others prefer full-service options with electricity, water, and sewer hookups for each RV. Go RVing partners with Go Camping America to provide campground information. Go Camping America is one of the largest and most powerful campground databases available to provide RVers, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts with the resources to pinpoint their exact needs and compare parks along their route.

Our Trip Planners

rv travel sites

My name is Doug. I run the  Learn to RV  website and  Facebook group , helping people get out on the road and have a great time in their RVs. I have over 10 years of RVing experience, and 6 of those years were spent on the road full-time. I travel with my wife, two kids, and two cats, and we like to travel in comfort. Because of this, the vast majority of my travel has been in big rigs. We’ve camped in a pop-up, 2 fifth wheels (a 42′ bunkhouse and a 44′ toy hauler), and are now in a 39′ class A motorhome.

Dawn and my families met while we both were fulltime. Dawn, her husband, 6 girls, and a dog were fulltime for 5 years as well. Our families just clicked and Dawn was the first person I thought of when this RV Trip Planning thing took off.

Why Hire Us?

Wondering why you would hire us as your RV travel planning agent? Well, our many years of RVing experience part-timing and full-timing in big rigs (> 35′ travel trailers, > 40′ fifth wheels, and > 40′ motorhomes) have made us something of a trip planning experts. Not only that, we enjoy planning RV adventures, something many people find stressful and overwhelming. I find joy in snagging those sites you want so badly, and in helping you find the best places to visit and things to see as you explore this amazing country.

Benefits of Hiring an RV Travel Planning Agent

If you’re still not sure an RV travel agent is right for you, it might help to have a solid understanding of the benefits of hiring one. You might be surprised just how nice it is to hand the planning over to someone else.

Some of the biggest perks of hiring an RV travel planner include:

  • Less stress.  Leave your planning to us, and relax knowing I’ve got you covered. No more hours on the phone trying to secure reservations or late nights spent planning a route.
  • Claim your time back.  We all know how valuable time is, especially when you’re in a busy season of life. By hiring an RV trip planner, you take back the time you would have spent planning, so you can spend on the things that are most important to you.
  • More fun.  As someone who has seen the country, I have firsthand experience discovering some of the most magical and exciting places. We can help you weave some of these gems into your travels, making your adventures even more amazing.

Curious to know what such an amazing service costs? Many people are surprised to learn just how affordable our RV trip planning services are.

Trip Planning Fee

We charge a $75 per week flat fee based on the duration of the trip for the planning services. There is a minimum 1-week charge and partial weeks are rounded up (e.g. 12 days = 2 weeks). This gets you a set of stops, an idea of parks that might work (but we don’t check for availability), and suggestions for things to do at each stop (for areas that we know as a group- it’s a lot, but not everywhere!). We pull it together into an RV trip plan using RV Trip Wizard or RV Parky, spreadsheet of itinerary and approximate costs, a calendar view of the stops, and a summary document of that all pulled together.

Optional Reservation Fee

Clients also have the option of having us make some or all of their camping reservations ( a credit card authorization form is required ). Those who choose this option, there is a 20% surcharge/reservation fee of the pre-tax nightly rate ( e.g. for $50/night, this would be a surcharge of $10/night ) or $5, whichever is higher ( so a $20/night stop, this would be a surcharge of $5/night ). We can make your Harvest Hosts/Boondockers Welcome stops by signing into your account and doing the work for you, these fall into the $5/night minimum fee.

Additional Charges

I despise the idea of “add-on” fees, but we’re finding that some scenarios have a significant amount of additional work for making the magic happen. These are:

  • Short notice/rushed planning – for trips that are planned within 30 days from sign-up cause quite a bit of juggling. The Trip Planning fee changes to $125/week. Note, we may not be able to accommodate trips that begin with less than 14 days notice.
  • Big national parks in the summer – for trips that include the major national parks (primarily out west), finding reservations has been proving to be very difficult. The Reservation Fee changes to 25%.
  • Florida winter snowbird/spring break – for trips to Florida in January, February, and March, finding availability is quite challenging. The Reservation Fee changes to 30%.

Today we plan over 100 trips per year, from rustic camping to resort style luxury camping.  Every trip is as unique as the people who are going on it.

We take pride in being a family run business and best rv trip planner.  Norm and Joan have been RVing for over 50 years and have traveled the US extensively.  Today, they spend about 200 nights each year in their RV.  Their passion for RV travel was passed on to their oldest daughter, Kim, and their son, John, who spent many vacations exploring the US and the outdoors.

Years later, they did the same with their grandkids.  The family legacy continues on to Tamara and Steven, the 2 oldest grandkids, who today assist in planning customer trips. We believe that with 3 generations involved in the planning process, every member of your family is considered.

Kentuck Campground, Ohiopyle State Park

rv travel sites

Book this RV site

Located on the southern edges of the Laurel Ridge, Ohiopyle State Park boasts 20,000 acres of rugged natural beauty and serves as the gateway to the wonderful scenery of the Laurel Highlands. At the heart of the park, the fast-flowing waters of the Youghiogheny River Gorge make for a dramatic centerpiece, as well as providing some of the best whitewater rafting in the eastern United States.

Amid this, the Kentuck Campground has around 200 campsites, and while more basic than some on this list, the surrounding natural wonders more than compensate. There are toilets and warm showers, as well as fire rings and electric hook-ups. Outdoor activities are available year-round, with hunting, hiking, fishing, and biking the most popular, but even just admiring the waterfalls and forest landscape is rewarding enough.

Normandy Farms

rv travel sites

This idyllic site has been operational since 1971, its plum New England location between Boston and Cape Cod proving to be popular enough to sustain its longevity. It enjoys a tranquil, pastoral setting deep in gorgeous woodlands, and if you can book a spot early in the fall, then you'll enjoy some of the most spectacular colors as the leaves form a vibrant canopy above you.

In terms of the site's amenities, it's an exhaustive list, with swimming pools, disc golf courses, tennis courts, and a fitness center, as well as Wi-Fi, snack bars, laundry, and even a creative arts room if the weather is inclement. Four-legged friends will also love the on-site dog park.

Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort

rv travel sites

This much-lauded campsite is so popular that potential guests must request a booking. But even this hasn't dampened folks' enthusiasm for places.

The site was designed by Richard Cottrell, who may not be famous, but he is considered one of the most skilled hospitality facility designers in North America. Set in glorious New Jersey woodlands, the site stretches out over 48 acres and includes nature trails, fishing holes, and incredibly beautiful scenery all around. A bonus feature of Crystal Springs is also that it is just two miles from the Six Flags amusement park, and so it makes for an ideal base.

Housekeeping services are offered to RV guests, and amenities include a swimming pool, Wi-Fi, barbecue area, and a picnic area.

rv travel sites

Wallowa Lake State Park

rv travel sites

There's an almost Alpine flavor to the gorgeous scenery of the Wallowa State Park. Deep blue lakes, snow-crowned mountains, and rolling hills deliver knockout views that will have you reaching for your camera again and again.

The campsite sits on the southern tip of the ribbon lake of Wallowa, an idyllic spot, especially if you plan on kayaking or canoeing on the calm waters. Tree-lined wilderness trails lead to observation points and fishing holes, and the entire area is just majestically scenic. Hike to Hell's Canyon or buy souvenirs from the nearby artists' community.

Amenities are basic, but there are 24 RV hook-up sites and visitors can make use of showers and picnic areas, and just bask in the glory of the surroundings.

Ohanapecosh

rv travel sites

Ohanapecosh Campground, on the southeast side of Mount Rainier National Park, is set amid an evocative old-growth forest and is divided by a strikingly beautiful, snow-fed river. Close by are popular hikes to Silver Falls and the Grove of the Patriarchs. The main attraction within Mount Rainier National Park, however, is the mountain itself, a glacier-clad volcano with scenic hiking trails and stunning views. Waterfalls and historic buildings line the trails, and the region is famous for its diversity of wildflowers, which are at their most colorful in July and August.

The campsite has 188 spaces for RVs, and though the amenities are very basic (it really only offers drinking water and some outdoor dining spots), the park is a wonderful retreat for those who want to get off-grid for a while.

Polson Motorcoach and RV Resort

rv travel sites

This professionally landscaped RV campsite exclusively caters to Class A motorhomes. The location is spectacular, with a real frontier exploration ambience. The beauty of the natural surroundings is impressive, and the camp is surrounded by the calm waters of Flathead Lake and the snow-capped peaks of the Mission Mountains.

Local attractions include the scenic Going-to-the-Sun at the Glacier National Park, the National Bison Range, the dramatic Kerr Dam, and the St. Ignatius Mission, largely held to be one of the world's most beautiful churches.

The resort itself offers a fenced dog run, gas fire pits, a gym, shower and laundry facilities, and plenty of options for outdoor dining and living.

Indiana Dunes State Park Sand Creek

rv travel sites

The unusual, breathtaking landscape of Indiana Dunes has meant that the environment has been preserved since 1925. You might not associate beachside camping with the Midwest, but the shores of Lake Michigan, especially when surrounded by millennia-old, towering sand dunes, will change your mind.

RV campers can enjoy some 25 miles of that protected shoreline, which also boasts forests, gentle hills, and clean sands. Sand Creek is probably the best bet for RV vacationers - this spot comes with full electric and water hookups, plus hot showers, a picnic shelter, and even a swimming pool.

Visitors can try the 'three-dune challenge, hiking to the top of the three tallest sand dunes, hiking or biking the wildlife-rich nature trails, or fishing and boating on the lake itself.

Hocking Hills State Park Campground

rv travel sites

The Hocking Hills State Park Campground is set among hills that create a beautiful setting, with lakes and waterfalls and some dramatically photogenic rock formations. The immediate region also offers horseback riding, canoeing, rappelling, and world-class zip lines.

The site has 121 spots with a range of amenities, including a heated pool, fire rings, a playground for kids, a game room, and showers. There are also gem mining and gold panning activities which, as well as being fun, are an insight into the history of the region.

Indigo Bluffs RV Park & Resort

There are a range of options at this park and resort so visitors to choose their level of luxury. The location is a lovely one on the doorstep of the Sleeping Bear Dunes, with Lake Michigan beaches, inland lakes, and several miles of hiking and biking trails all in the vicinity.

The RV Park is replete with maple trees that provide a good amount of shade. It's marketed to couples with younger families, and although it enjoys many of the facility-wide amenities such as wifi and use of the pool and general store, the campsites are a little more on the rustic side.

The RV Resort is aimed at more mature travelers, with elevated parking spots, patios, and paved roads. Rates are slightly more expensive (from $75 per night) but there's an added level of safety in terms of terrain. Boating, fishing, and visiting the inland lakes and islands are the most popular activities, though there are some great golf courses close by as well.

South Carlsbad State Beach

rv travel sites

For RVs under 35 feet, South Carlsbad State Beach campground offers a chance to camp as close to the ocean and sprawling beach coastline as it's possible to get without getting wet. This picturesque stretch of the San Diego coast is peaceful and has picture-postcard views as far as the eye can see.

If you crack the windows at night, you can fall asleep to the sound of Pacific Ocean waves crashing against the shore, which should result in a very contented night's sleep. Wake up to the sunrise as you feel the sand between your toes. There are plenty of amenities, too, with Wi-Fi, firewood for sale, and showers, and select sites which offer full RV hookups.

Solstice Motorcoach Resort and Country Club

rv travel sites

As good as the facilities here are, it's the location that's the real selling point. This country club-style resort is perfectly placed for two kinds of adventure — either a busy, sightseeing-filled trip to bustling Las Vegas or a more rural venture into the beautiful landscapes of Utah's national parks.

Travelers who enjoy their home comforts will take a particular shine to this spot, which boasts a fully-loaded clubhouse with games room and showers, plus free Wi-Fi as well as a three-tier pond and a selection of walking trails. You're also within a few miles of some world-class golf.

Zion River Resort

rv travel sites

Zion National Park is one of the county's most popular and scenic national parks, and it's little wonder that visitors arrive here in their droves to experience the raw nature and spectacular, panoramic views.

Many people head out into the wilderness on one of the many world-class hiking trails. The Zion River Resort is a great spot to have as a base if that's your plan, or even if you just want to dip your toe in and check off the park's highlights.

The RV park enjoys some much-welcomed shade from the surrounding trees as well as fire rings, cable TV, and free Wi-Fi. There's also the relative luxury of a swimming pool and spa, kids' playground, barbecue area, and a fully-equipped kitchen, so the amenities really are top-notch.

Mill Creek Ranch Resort

rv travel sites

This RV resort is located just an hour or so outside of Dallas, but is as far from the urban sprawl as you can imagine. The campground is set in some 200 acres of serene Texas countryside and provides an idyllic spot that combines rural tranquility with a host of modern amenities that bring home comforts to RV travelers.

The grounds cover some 200 acres, and these are yours to explore, with everything from stocked fishing ponds to heated infinity pools to aid your rest and relaxation. The site has golf carts to rent so that you can zip around the facility, and the amenities include a kids' playground, Wi-Fi, covered dog runs, grocery stores, and shower and laundry facilities.

The resort is regularly mentioned as one of the region's top campsites, and the owners take real pride in maintaining a clean and accessible environment.

Bella Terra of Gulf Shores

rv travel sites

There's a lot to love about this huge facility, and it's one of the few RV campgrounds in the country where you really don't have to leave the site to enjoy a full and memorable vacation.

The RV site is in close proximity to some of the best coastline of the Gulf Shores. Perdido Key, Oyster Bay, and Orange Beach are just a few of the highly-regarded beaches in the region, and its locale midway between Mobile and Pensacola means that there's a wealth of options for day trips.

The on-site facilities are probably the most exhaustive you'll find, starting with oversized lots that can be as large as 4,500 square feet. Amenities include, but are not limited to: a fully-stocked lake for fishing, a movie theater, fitness center, putting green, and several bathhouses with shower suites. There are also daily social activities and the rave reviews and loyal customer base speak for themselves.

Aztec RV Resort

rv travel sites

This RV resort is another in the luxury sector, similar to Bella Terram, and indeed it almost resembles an upscale Floridian retirement village in terms of its aesthetic and panoramic facilities. Set across 104 acres, it also boasts some of the largest RV lots in the business, with some weighing in at 3,000 square feet and the largest a massive 9,000 square feet.

It is located vaguely equidistant from Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton, meaning that day trip options and beach visits are very easy. Again, though, if you just need to relax for a few days then there's little reason to leave the manicured grounds. There are two heated swimming pools, tennis and pickleball courts, putting greens and of course laundry and shower facilities.

The prices reflect the levels of relative luxury to be found here, and it really suits the more relaxed vacationer rather than outdoor pursuits fans.

Where can I find RV campsites?

RV campsites are located all over the United States. There are some 13,000 privately-owned facilities and 1,600 state parks nationwide. Many are situated in or close to popular resorts or national parks, and so you're not far from major attractions or areas of natural beauty.

Websites such as Campspot , The Dyrt , and PitchUp make it easy to search for and book campsites across the US.

How do I book an RV campsite?

Most campsites should be booked directly via their own website or the National Park Service website. You can also find many of them on third-party websites such as TripAdvisor. Book as far ahead as you can, especially for the most popular spots and at peak season.

How much is the average price of an RV campsite?

In general, RV campsites cost between $25 and $80 per night, varying by location, the size of the lot, and what connections are offered. Expect an average camper trailer spot with power and water to cost around $40 a night.

What kind of facilities can I expect?

There are different levels of amenities ('hookups') that you can expect. Full hookups are the most expensive and let you directly connect your RV to water, electricity and plumbing, whereas partial hookups offer only water and electricity. Dry hookups offer a power source, but no water or plumbing - these are the cheapest option.

What people say about our rv trip planning.

Hi we just got back from a 8 day trip this month from Vegas to Grand Canyon, to Sedona, and stops in between. We stayed at 4 different campsite during our travel and each one was planned out perfect and booked with out a hitch. Our complete intermarry that she put together was flawless. Could not have asked for a better experience. Will be using Tumbleweed Travel in the future. Thank you Brooke!!

Brooke did an EXCELLENT job with our 3.5 week trip around the American Southwest. We always had the most amazing campsite, and she responded really well to our high/low requests, sprinkling in great hotels and activities. She is super organized, responsive and has personally stayed in all the places she sends you. Highly recommend!!!

Brooke at Tumbleweed helped us plan a 10-night trip this summer to Jackson Hole, Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone. We were novices to RVing and Brooke took care of planning a great trip – from perfect campsites to amazing activities to side trips along the way. All details were provided well in advance and with a great app that had our trip details and links to all activities and sites. We could not have done this trip without her help. We were a group of 11 – two RVs – and Brooke made very good age-appropriate recommendations. Some or our favorites were whitewater rafting down the Snake River, Horseback Riding in Yellowstone, rodeo in West Yellowstone. If you are looking for a great trip without the headaches and time to plan every detail I’d highly recommend Tumbleweed.

Brooke is an all-star organizational trip planner! We wanted a non-cookie cutter trip and she delivered. She arranged the MIGHTY 5 UTAH RV trip with a pickup in Vegas, drop off in Provo so we could do our loop in the 9 days that we had off from work. A lot of RV rentals won’t do one-way rentals. The trip itself was perfect. THE APP SHE UTILIZES IS AWESOME!! We always knew exactly where we were headed, how long it would take to get there, the check in info, places to eat, and fun side trips along the way if we wanted (and could access the app w/ no cell service). I am a super planner and Brooke was better than me. It’s so comforting to actually relax, not spend hours planning a trip and be able to trust someone else to do the work for you and it turn out better than I could have planned!! Brooke can you teach my husband & employees?! 🤣 I will absolutely use Tumbleweed again. I’m also frugal and she was worth every penny.

Thanks Brooke! From day one you made all the details clear, and all the recommendations were spot on for our trip. We didn't have any issues with reservations and felt that every detail of our adventure was taken care of - so that we can enjoy the family time! I especially loved the app with all our details and points of interest easily accessible, which also made connecting to google maps seamless. I would highly recommend Brooke and Tumbleweed Travel and will look forward to our next adventure with their help!

My wife and I recently did a week-long, bucket-list trip to Zion, Bryce and North Rim Grand Canyon national parks on a rental RV. Hiring Tumbleweed was the smartest thing we did to make the experience so easy and enjoyable. Brooke (the owner) handled all the planning, campsite selections and reservations. This saved us countless hours as well as the rookie mistakes we no doubt would've made on our own. We also loved the detailed itinerary, directions and recommendations packed into an easy-to-use app that works even offline (which is essential in parks without wifi or cell coverage). The overall experience was so great that we've hired Tumbleweed to arrange a second RV trip - to Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef parks.

The Armoury Chamber is a part of the Grand Kremlin Palace’s complex and is one of the oldest museums of Moscow, established in 1851. It showcases Russian history and displays many cherished relics. Definitely make sure to check out this museum while you’re here!

The Moscow Kremlin

The churches inside the Moscow Kremlin are the Cathedral of the Dormition, Church of the Archangel, Church of the Annunciation, and the bell tower of Ivan Veliki (a church tower).

The five-domed Cathedral of the Dormition is considered the most famous. It was built from 1475–1479 by an Italian architect and has served as a wedding and coronation place for great princes, tsars, and emperors of Russia. Church services are given in the Kremlin’s numerous cathedrals on a regular basis.

The Grand Kremlin Palace was the former Tsar’s Moscow residence and today it serves as the official workplace of the President of the Russian Federation (Vladimir Putin seems to have bagged that title for life) .

This iconic cathedral has become a symbol of Russia due to its distinguishing architecture and prominent position inside the Red Square. It’s one of the most beautiful, wonderful, and mesmerizing historical cathedrals in the world!

St. Basils Cathedral

The interior of the church surprises most people when they visit. In contrast to the large exterior, the inside is not so much one large area, but rather a collection of smaller areas, with many corridors and small rooms. There are 9 small chapels and one mausoleum grouped around a central tower.

Visiting the inside is like walking through a maze, there are even small signs all around the cathedral tracing where to walk, and pointing you in the right direction! The walls are meticulously decorated and painted with intricate floral designs and religious themes.

It takes just 58 seconds for visitors to reach the Tower’s observation deck by super fast elevator. The tower is open every day for long hours and is a great site in Moscow to check out! There is even a restaurant at the top where you can enjoy rotating views of the city while you dine on traditional Russian cuisine or European cuisine!

The tower is somewhat of an architectural surprise in a city that is not known for skyscrapers! To see the city from a new perspective, make sure to add this stop to your Moscow itinerary!

Izmaylovo District

  • The most popular attractions in this district are the kremlin and the flea market
  • Outside of the city center and easy to reach via metro
  • Most popular during the summer and on weekends

Travel outside the city center and discover a unique area of the city! The Izmaylovo District is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, and one of the coolest places to see in Moscow! The two main attractions we recommend checking out are the Kremlin and the flea market.

The Izmailovo Kremlin was established as a cultural center and molded after traditional Russian architecture. This colorful complex is home to several single-subject museums, including a Russian folk art museum and a vodka museum!

Izmaylovo District

Next to the Kremlin is the Izmailovo open-air market, which dates back to the 17th century! The market is connected to the Izmailovo Kremlin by a wooden bridge. Pick up all your Russian souvenirs here, including traditional handicrafts, paintings, books, retro toys, and Soviet memorabilia!

You will find many hand-made and hand-painted options available at higher prices, as well as mass-produced souvenir options at lower prices!

Museum of Soviet Arcade Games

  • Closed on Mondays
  • Filled with old arcade games that visitors get to try out!
  • The museum also includes a small cafe and burger shop

For something a little different, check out the Museum of Soviet Arcade Games! The museum features roughly 60 machines from the Soviet era, including video games, pinball machines, and collaborative hockey foosball! The machines inside the museum were produced in the USSR in the mid-1970s.

Museum of Soviet Arcade Games

The best part is, most of the games are still playable! Purchase tickets and try the games out for yourself! The museum also has a neat little screening room that plays old Soviet cartoons and an area with Soviet magazines! This unique attraction is a fun addition to a 3 day itinerary in Moscow, and an attraction that all ages will enjoy!

Whether you’re spending one day in Moscow, or more, safety is an important thing to keep in mind when traveling to a big city! Overall, Moscow is a very safe place to visit. However, it is always recommended that tourists take certain precautions when traveling to a new destination!

The police in Moscow is extremely effective at making the city a safe place to visit and do their best to patrol all of the top Moscow, Russia tourist attractions. However, tourists can still be a target for pickpockets and scammers.

Moscow has a huge flow of tourists, therefore there is a risk for pickpocketing. Simple precautions will help eliminate your chances of being robbed. Stay vigilant, keep your items close to you at all times, and don’t flash your valuables!

If you’re planning a solo Moscow itinerary, you should have no need to worry, as the city is also considered safe for solo travelers, even women. Stay in the populated areas, try and not travel alone late at night, and never accept rides from strangers or taxis without a meter and correct signage.

The threat of natural disasters in Moscow is low, with the exception of severe winters when the temperature can dip below freezing! Bring a good, warm jacket if you visit in Winter.

However, please note that Russian views on homsexuality are far less accepting than those in Western Europe. Likewise, Non-Caucasian travellers may sadly encounter racism in Russia .

Don’t Forget Your Travel Insurance for Moscow

ALWAYS sort out your backpacker insurance before your trip. There’s plenty to choose from in that department, but a good place to start is Safety Wing .

They offer month-to-month payments, no lock-in contracts, and require absolutely no itineraries: that’s the exact kind of insurance long-term travellers and digital nomads need.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Rest assured that you will be taken great care of on one of our Moscow tours. Express to Russia has a fully staffed office in Moscow that will help to make your visit fun, informative and unforgettable. Please remember that of all these tours are private and can be adjusted to your taste. You can add, replace or skip some sights; you can add more days to the package or cut the tour short. Our specialists will be glad to help you create the tour of your dreams!

Novodevichy Convent, Moscow

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Kremlin in the times of Ivan III

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
