Choose to view photographs, videos and timelapse panoramas that showcase resurrected tools, pottery, fossils and other artefacts from the Iron Age that have been excavated from a remote desert site, once a centre for metalworking three thousand years ago. There's much to explore but see if you can find the historic gold ring that became the design inspiration for the Expo 2020 Dubai logo.

Also known as Grand Bur Dubai Masjid, this mosque is located in the  city's heritage area . It also has the tallest minaret in Dubai, measuring 70m and resembling a lighthouse. Burj Al Arab and Google launch innovative virtual hotel tour

Travellers around the world can now experience the AED80,000(US$21,800)-a-night Royal Suite at Dubai’s seven-star Burj Al Arab, thanks to a new 360-degree interactive virtual tour feature introduced by Google, branded ‘Jumeirah Inside’.

At the click of a button, would-be guests are whisked 27 floors up the iconic sail-shaped building and inside the opulent suite as part of a full hotel tour launched by the Internet giant in partnership with Burj Al Arab operator, Jumeirah Group.

From lobby to helipad – and everywhere in between – guests and web users can see for themselves the property’s lavish décor and key features in their full glory while clicking on hotspots that unlock facts about the hotel.

Photographs and new footage of one of the world’s most famous hotels are also featured in an initiative hailed a “first for the hospitality sector” by Jumeirah’s vice president of brand, digital and loyalty, Ross McAuley.

“Guests have been able to view video content of the hotel on YouTube, but not in an interactive way like this,” he said. “People can now take a virtual tour, walk through the lobby and look around. The hotel is an icon of Dubai and the experience can show the viewer every aspect.”

Jumeirah Inside has been developed in partnership with creative designers at Google. The service works across desktop, tablet and mobile devices, and is available in five languages.

“We wanted to take people inside the hotel, to jump in the pool and visit the restaurants,” Mr McAuley said.

Online visitors and guests can share their experience of the website on social media from any room in the hotel. The website is brought to life by the 360-degree video, 3D sound and playful interactions. Online visitors can also complete the practical tasks you would expect of a hotel website, such as booking a room or making special requests ahead of a stay.

If this venture is successful, a similar platform could be rolled out to other Jumeirah Group hotels around the world.

Google’s industry manager for emerging travel, Ali Hashmi, said the virtual tour was “not a gimmick”, but a “comprehensive immersive 360-degree experience”.

“Other hotels are likely to follow suit here but we believe this platform with the Burj Al Arab sets the standard,” he added.

This Is the Next Best Thing to Visiting Dubai's Most Extravagant Hotel

A night at the extravagant, seven-star Burj Al Arab Jumeirah which sits on its own man-made island in Dubai and sports a distinctive sail silhouette, costs nearly $1,500 for a deluxe one-bedroom suite, the starting room category. But thanks to a new virtual reality experience, aspiring guests can explore every inch of the Burj—for free.

Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts has debuted an immersive digital platform, done in collaboration with Google, called Jumeirah Inside , which allows users to tour the Burj through a combination of 360-degree videos, 3D sound, vivid photos, and detailed descriptions. The tours can be seen from desktop, tablet, and mobile devices and heard in five different languages.

The experience begins with a short video showing two flamboyant ways to arrive at the Burj--by helicopter or a chauffeured car service. Once virtually inside the lobby of the Burj, users can tap on various photo icons to see what’s in the lobby from the golden iPads that are given to guests to the details of the hotel’s traditional Marhaba Welcome.

From there, guests can choose what part of the hotel to explore next, like the Royal Suite, which costs nearly $9,000 a night. Just like in the lobby, users can click on photos and descriptions to learn more about the over-the-top amenities and services that await. Elsewhere on the tour, users can virtually dive into the Talise Spa infinity pool and take in the sky-high ambience at the Skyview Bar. Not to be missed are the 360-degree views from the Burj’s iconic helipad, which offers unobstructed views of Dubai and the Arabian Gulf.

Jumeirah Inside also makes it possible for users to tour the other 22 Jumeirah properties, although not as extensively as the Burj. Jumeirah said they are working on a similar virtual tour for the Jumeirah Al Naseem resort, which should be ready later next year.

While this is not the first time a hotel has dabbled with virtual reality (Marriott unveiled a virtual room service amenity in September), this does mark a significant investment by a hotel brand in letting their guests experience a property before, hopefully, booking a stay.
