AEGEAN introduces two new fare categories, GoLight and Flex for lower prices and greater flexibility.

Thursday, 03-10-2013.

Travel with the one that suits you the most!

Kifisia, 3 October 2013 : In response to its passengers’ needs for even lower fares and greater flexibility, AEGEAN is introducing two new fare categories in economy class, GoLight and Flex. These new categories are designed to allow the passenger the flexibility to choose the price of his ticket on the basis of his individual needs. Specifically:

  • GoLight: Travel more economically, with ticket prices starting from 24 Euro (to Athens) (one-way, all taxes included) on domestic flights. One piece of hand luggage allowed, weighing up to 8 kg.
  • Flex: These tickets offer greater flexibility in your travel plans, allowing you to change your ticket as many times as you want without any rebooking fee. You can carry one piece of hand luggage up to 8 kg and one checked baggage up to 23 kg. Tickets prices start in the domestic network from 59 Euro (to Athens) (one-way, all taxes included).

Regardless of the ticket category you may have, if you need to take extra baggage you can buy extra baggage from www.aegeanair.com saving up to 40% for your additional baggage,  the company’s call centre, the airport or travel agents.

With these new arrangements the passenger can choose the fare category that best suits his needs, while enjoying the same high quality of AEGEAN services on the ground and during the flight. With these new fare categories, and with the steady reduction in fares now in its fifth year, AEGEAN is seeking to respond to the needs of its passengers for economical and flexible travel solutions.

Passengers can use the new Low Fare Calendar on the company website to identify the lowest available fare for their trip, with better prices available the earlier you book.

The programme will be launched at the sales level from 10 October 2013 and will apply to the following flights:

  • Domestic and to/from Cyprus, from 1 November 2013
  • International flights from 15 January 2014

The new fare categories are not available on flights to and from: Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Athens-Frankfurt, Athens-Munich.

The Gold Members of the Miles&Bonus program retain the right for the free transfer of one extra piece of baggage, regardless of the fare family they are travelling with.

Aegean Airlines Review [2024]: The Best Airline In Greece?

Aegean Airlines Review [2024]: The Best Airline In Greece?

Should you fly with Aegean Airlines? Will this airline meet, exceed, or fail your travel expectations? What are their prices and luggage fees? Better to find out now than later, when you've invested time and money. Keep reading for more info on Aegean Airline.

travel light aegean

We all know the nightmare of scrolling for airline tickets and the stress of having to sort through what feels like a million companies when you do that. How are you supposed to know which airlines are reliable and which ones are good value?

Don't worry; we're here to help! We've reviewed  several airlines  in the past, and this post will be reviewing another! Let's dive into all you need to know about Aegean Airlines.

Aegean Airlines Logo

What is Aegean Airlines?

Aegean Airlines is the flag carrier airline for Greece and is also the most prominent Greek airline. While the airline was founded in 1987, it didn't have its first commercial flight until 1999. While not a budget airline, Aegean offers fares at different price points, with different benefits. They do, however, offer a  low fare calendar tool , which you can use to find when your next trip would fly the cheapest.

Aegean Airlines is part of the Star Alliance, and their Miles+Bonus program partners with over  230 partners , including over 20 other airlines.

What's up with Aegean's Customer Service?

It's important to know how Aegean Airlines stack up in terms of customer service. You never know when you'll need help on your flight. How does Aegean Airline's customer service stack up to other airlines?

If you have any initial queries, heading to the  FAQ page  is a great first stop. You can also find links to send off any email questions, complaints, or compliments. They also have 24-hour contact numbers, and you can find the one for your country on that same page. If you decide to call, make sure you have your booking number ready to ensure you get your questions answered ASAP.

What's up with Aegean Airline's Complaints?

Reading about an airline's complaints initially might be a good idea to learn about their cons, but sifting through many negative reviews isn't something to look forward to. Don't fret, we've sifted through them and gathered what most people are saying about Aegean Airlines!

Recent reviews online have spoken of being unable to reach Aegean over the phone and not receiving refunds due to Covid-19 or Covid-19 related cancellations. The most common negative review is customer service and how passengers are treated during their flights. While Aegean rates highly on Tripadvisor for customer service, recent reviews indicate that may no longer be the case.

Where does Aegean fly?

Excluding their charter flights, Aegean Airlines fly to over 80  destinations around the world  on almost every continent. The bulk of their destinations are in Europe, though, and they don't fly to the U.S., only Canada. Being a Greek airline, they also fly domestically around  Greece , so you can make the most of your holiday there with easy access to wherever you visit! With hubs in Athens, Thessaloniki, and Larnaca in Cyprus, you'll have several options for Aegean to take you worldwide.

Aegean's website also offers a way to view Greece through the eyes of those who live there with their  Greece by Greeks  page. There you'll find suggestions for places (both on and off the beaten path) to explore all over Greece.

P.S. We might not be an expert on all things Greek, but if you're headed to Athens, we've got some  suggestions , too!

Aegean's Baggage Policy

As with many airlines, Aegean has a baggage policy that depends on your fare class. Your in-cabin baggage allowance by class is as follows:

  • Economy Light Fare:  one carry-on bag up to 8kg, and no larger than 56cm X 45cm X 25cm,  or  one personal item that must fit under the seat in front of you
  • Economy Flex & ComfortFlex Fare:  one carry-on bag up to 8kg, and no larger than 56cm X 45cm X 25cm, and one personal item that must fit under the seat in front of you
  • Business Class:  one carry-on bag up to 13kg and no larger than 56cm X 45cm X 25cm that can be stored in the overhead bin, and one personal item that must fit under the seat in front of you

Suppose you want to travel with more than one piece of luggage. In that case, you'll need to look specifically at Economy Flex or ComfortFlex if you don't want to book a business class. One negative of Aegean is their strict and minimal weight limit for carry-on bags on all fares except business fares.

Checked baggage is not included on the Economy Light or Economy Flex ticket. If you've booked a fare in either of those two classes and would like to check a bag, you should be sure to prepay it to save some money. As with most airlines, make sure you pay in advance for your checked luggage! A bag up to 23kg will cost you between 10€-30€ online but will cost you 40€ at the gate.

Aegean Baggage Policy.

Booking seats

Depending on the fare you purchase, you may be able to choose your seat for your flight. In economy, Aegean has designated three different seat types from which you can choose:

  • Extra legroom

If your fare allows, you can select from any of these types for your journey. If you've purchased an Economy Light fare, seat selection will come at a charge. If you don't wish to pay for seat selection, you'll be randomly assigned a seat at check-in. For Flex fare, you'll be given a standard seat free of charge, but you can upgrade upfront for extra legroom seat for a fee. A ComfortFlex fare will put you in either a standard or upfront seat. Still, you'll need to pay for extra legroom. Business class tickets can select any seat type at no additional cost.

If you're curious about the seat layout in the plane you'll be flying on, Aegean has a handy layout  tool  for all their airplanes!

Aegean Airlines Seating plan.

Business-class

Sometimes you want to treat yourself when you travel, and buying a business class ticket on Aegean is one way! If you've booked an economy seat, you can bid to upgrade, and if the amount you offered to pay for the upgrade is amongst the highest, you'll be upgraded! If you'd rather know you're getting business going in, you can purchase that fare, but what exactly does it get you?

Business-class passengers on Aegean are treated to exclusive check-in counters and priority boarding. There will also be a fast-track security area when going through security control. You'll have access to the business lounge and delicious food onboard international flights prepared by  Gastronomic . You also get two free pieces of baggage in the cabin and checked luggage.

Aegean Business Class Seats.

Is Aegean Airlines Worth It?

We believe that you should definitely give Aegean Airlines a try if their prices seem decent when you're booking!

Suppose you're traveling to Greece or around Greece. In that case, you'll definitely want to consider Aegean Airlines as they are a primary airline in Greece.

Having poor customer service might be a huge drawback to many travelers, but being extra prepared for the trip might help prevent contacting customer service!

Make sure you read up on their refund, cancellation, and exchange policies, especially when it comes to covid-19.

Our Rating: 3.3/5

  • Good Business class services
  • Food/snack included on all fares
  • Many destinations in Europe (Greece in particular)
  • Limited baggage and carry on is limited to 8kg
  • Cheaper fares come with very little other than a seat
  • Poor customer service

Travel + Leisure Readers' 500 Favorite Hotels and Resorts in the World

These properties scored the highest in Travel + Leisure's most recent World's Best Awards survey.

Sometimes a hotel is so special that it becomes a destination in its own right. If you’re on the hunt for a property worth planning a trip around, look no further than the T+L 500, our annual list of the hotels and resorts our readers love the most.

Drawn from the results of the World’s Best Awards survey (voted on by our readers), these 500 top scorers deliver the bucket-list locations, outstanding design, and exceptional service our readers want to return to time and time again.

The honorees are grouped into eight geographic regions: Africa and the Middle East; Asia; Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific; Canada; the Caribbean; Europe; Mexico, Central America, and South America; and the United States.

Below, we highlight 10 properties that embody all of the spectacular charm and amenities one might look for when planning their next dream vacation. You can read the full T+L 500 list in Travel + Leisure 's May 2024 issue, on newsstands today, or digitally on Apple News+.

Etéreo, Auberge Resorts Collection

The name Etéreo , Spanish for “ethereal,” accurately describes this rejuvenating resort on Mexico's Riviera Maya. Known for its elevated restaurants, excellent Sana spa, gorgeous views of the Caribbean Sea, and nearby cenotes , it’s no surprise this property is a family favorite, appealing to multiple generations.

Montage Los Cabos

Located on Santa Maria Bay in Los Cabos, Mexico, Montage Los Cabos has 122 guestrooms, suites, and casas, as well as 52 residences. Here, you’ll find fresh Baja-inspired cuisine — and, if your timing is right, the annual grey and humpback whale migration.

Kokomo Private Island Fiji

A quick 45-minute flight from Nadi International Airport gets you to Kokomo , a private island resort in Fiji. Unspoiled and wildly luxurious, this secluded escape has some of the best diving and snorkeling around the world’s fourth largest reef.

Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus

With a European address that overlooks Asia, this Four Seasons Hotel holds a unique position along the Bosphorus Strait. After a busy day of shopping in one of Istanbul’s trendiest neighborhoods, the heated outdoor pool is the perfect place to wind down and relax the senses.

Six Senses Douro Valley

The restored 19th-century manor in Lamego, Portugal has 71 guest rooms with panoramic views of the Douro river, private balconies, and wooden bridges leading to tranquil, secret gardens.

Grace Hotel, Auberge Resorts Collection

This top 10 best resort in Europe, according to our 2023 World’s Best Awards, lies in the heart of Santorini’s Imerovigli village. Whether you’re in the infinity pool or in the comfort of your private villa, it’s impossible to miss the bright orange sunset that sets its light over the Aegean Sea.

The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua

Deeply rooted in Hawaiian history, The Ritz-Carlton Maui , which underwent a $100-million renovation last year, centers its design around the location’s culture and maintains the nearby Honokahua Preservation Site (a recognized wahi pana , or sacred site, where about 2,000 Hawaiians were buried between 610 C.E. and 1800 C.E.).

Nayara Tented Camp

If you’ve ever been to La Fortuna, Costa Rica, you know it's one of the most magical natural places in the world. At Nayara Tented Camp , not only can you revel in the surrounding biodiversity with highly trained naturalist guides, but after a busy day of sightseeing, you can return to your spacious tent with a private pool fed by the volcano’s mineral hot springs.

The Little Nell

Aspen’s only ski-in, ski-out hotel has 92 rooms, a new luxury spa, two restaurants, three bars, extraordinary mountain views and, you guessed it — all things après-ski.

White Barn Inn, Auberge Resorts Collection

Drive 90 minutes north of Boston to Kennebunkport, Maine, to find the effortlessly cozy and elevated White Barn Inn . Roomy waterfront cottages await with a fireplace, a large living area, and direct access to the heated infinity pool.

Best Stroller for Flying with Infants

Doona infant car seat and stroller.

Thankfully, my wife and I come prepared. The Bugaboo Butterfly travel stroller is a godsend when running around with small humans . It opens quickly and easily, it’s light and portable, and it holds kids up to fifty pounds. That means even though my two-year-old daughter is usually the one hitching the ride, when my five-year-old son’s legs get tired (or a sibling rivalry inevitably rears its head), he can hop in there, too.

All of which is to say that when the Koenig clan finally does arrive at the gate, all four of us are in relatively good spirits—even the two year old. The Bugaboo is a great get, but there are a number of other travel strollers out there that could be a good match for you and yours. Read our full breakdown of the varieties we’ve tested and reviewed.

The Butterfly is aptly named, as it feels like it is actually floating over the ground, even when on grass and gravel. The seat must be especially comfortable, because my two year old surely would have let me know in no uncertain terms were it not. The cargo space on the Bugaboo is good enough for emergency drinks, snacks, Mom’s bag, and Dad’s travel hoodie.

Opening and closing the Butterfly is a cinch, and with Irish blood on both sides, my kids appreciate the sun canopy as well. The stroller is small enough to keep as a carry-on, but if you do decide to check it, be sure to fold up the footrest so it doesn’t get damaged in transit.

There’s not much to dislike about the All-City stroller, and that includes its price point, which is a good chunk less than the Bugaboo’s (right in the $300 range, depending on when and where you shop).

This is a stroller with comfortable padding in the seating area and folding mechanisms that won’t induce public meltdowns (from dads, not toddlers). It’s also rather maneuverable and has a silky ride that is really impressive. The only bona fide knock against it is that at 17.6 pounds, it’s pretty bulky, and without a shoulder strap, heaving it around is a real workout.

For an item that costs around $100, the Classic Stroller from babyGap can take a beating. That’s a pleasant surprise for those of us dads who tend to hulk out on things from time to time. (Hi, it’s me. I’m the problem, it’s me.)

This stroller also has a comfortable seat with a five-point harness and a sun canopy overhead with a peekaboo window so you can keep an eye on Junior. The only thing not to like about it is that the folding lock on the bottom-right side takes a little getting used to, which might annoy impatient dads... Not that I know anyone like that.

The most minimalistic of the strollers on this list, the Contours Itsy Lightweight Travel Stroller reminds me of something my wife says every time I float the idea of buying a new car. She points out the window at the old beater in our driveway and says, “Does it still roll?”

This stroller has no cupholders and limited storage space. It also doesn’t recline, which might be an issue for bigger kids. But it does, in fact, still roll—rather smoothly at that. And at just 12.3 pounds and $170, this will be a sensible option for many.

Before I had kids, I used to think I wanted twins. What a sweet and innocent child I was. One kid at a time has been plenty for me, and for those dads in the trenches with twins, you have my respect.

For you guys, the Uppababy G-Link V2 Stroller is a very solid choice. I think of it as the Cadillac of travel strollers—comfortable, smooth, and (obviously) rather large. It’s actually too big to keep as a carry-on, so be prepared to check it. But realistically, there is very little not to like here.

Since I’m a full-fledged suburban dad now, car seats are my current worry. But I lived in cities for twenty years of my life, so I am very sympathetic to space concerns. The best travel stroller out there for the urban denizens among us needs to be small and easy to maneuver—enter the Babyzen YOYO2.

This zippy little thing is great for weaving through armies of commuters on busy city sidewalks. It also folds up teeny, and at 13.7 pounds, it’s an easy carry with a padded shoulder strap. The only downside is that it’s not fond of rough surfaces, which is not really a big deal as long as you avoid New York City potholes.

You know that feeling when you’re cutting wrapping paper and the scissors begin to glide? That’s how it feels to push the Silver Cross. It’s also got a five-point harness and an adjustable footrest, plus it fully reclines. The sun canopy is workable if not the largest I’ve seen.

A fun trick is that this stroller folds into a little rolling-suitcase-looking thing—the leather-wrapped bumper bar turns into the handle. The main drawback here is that cargo space is at a bare minimum. The Silver Cross Jet 3 is best thought of as the roadster of travel strollers.

Traveling with infants—and really doing anything with infants, now that I say it out loud—has an added degree of difficulty. Gently put: You’re going to want all the help you can get. That’s why I like this entry from Doona. It doubles as a car seat and stroller, so it gets high marks for versatility. It is also ready right out of the box for newborns (many other strollers need to be adapted for kids under six months). And, best of all, for you cosmopolites out there, it’s approved by both U.S. and European authorities for air travel.

The one issue with this stroller is that its max weight capacity is thirty-five pounds, so your child will likely outgrow it quickly. But it’s great to save for a second kid or to share with friends.

What to Consider When Buying a Travel Stroller

line break

Don’t just trust our picks; see how we graded them.

Movement When you’re pushing around one, two, or (godspeed) three-plus kids, you want the stroller to make it easy on you. If you’re in the city, you only need it to be good on sidewalk asphalt and epoxied airport floors. If you’re in the burbs, gravel and dirt might come into the equation.

Weight When it’s folded up, you want it to be easy to handle. This is especially true for carry-on strollers.

Storage Everyone in the family has essentials: Baby’s snacks, Dad’s drink, Mom’s in-flight melatonin. A good stroller gives you space for all of it.

Ease of use Is it difficult to fold? Does it fit in an overhead bin? Is the carry-strap sufficient for its size? Stuff like this is important.

Versatility This is critical when you’ve got multiple kids and the older ones like to campaign for stroller privileges. What is the weight limit? Also, if a stroller can recline, it’ll be more comfortable for bigger kids.
