If you're looking for help on where to buy Metallica tickets for their ongoing M72 World Tour, we have you covered. The heavy metal legends are back on tour for the first time since 2019, and concert tickets are still available to purchase for those who want to catch the performances of the second and third legs of the acclaimed tour.

Metallica's M72 World Tour kicked off on April 27, 2023 in Amsterdam. The first leg in Europe included 10 shows across five cities, followed by a monthlong hiatus for the band throughout July 2023. Metallica then commenced the second phase of the M72 World Tour in North America, which began on August 4, 2023, in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and ended on November 12, 2023, in Detroit, Michigan. The band is finishing up a six-month break before returning to Europe for the third leg starting on May 24, 2024.

Longtime band members James Hetfield (lead vocals, guitar), Lars Ulrich (drums), Kirk Hammett (lead guitar), and Robert Trujillo (bass guitar) are all returning for the nearly two-year-long tour, which is in support of Metallica's 11th studio album. While the M72 tour is focused on celebrating their 2023 album 72 Seasons, the tour's playlist includes various songs from Metallica's entire discography. Some classic tracks that have made their way onto the setlists in 2023 include "Fade to Black," "Enter Sandman," and "Master of Puppets."

Take a look at the table below for a list of remaining dates, venues, their cheapest prices at the time of writing, and links to each tour date's tickets. Or you can browse through all the available Metallica tickets left through StubHub and Vivid Seats for all dates at your leisure.

Where to buy Metallica tickets

You can buy original tickets to Metallica's 2023-2024 concert tour through Ticketmaster, though the available quantity is limited. Additionally, standard original tickets on Ticketmaster are typically more expensive than those available through verified resale platforms such as StubHub and Vivid Seats .

The prices for standard tickets at Metallica's M72 World Tour range from about $55 on the lower end to $332 for one-day passes, though these prices are higher for two-day passes to most venues. The price range for standard tickets through StubHub is similar, beginning at about $46 to around $329, depending on the date and location.

How much are Metallica tickets?

The cost of an original concert ticket to Metallica has risen significantly over time due to demand. While some are still available through Ticketmaster, the price of a ticket varies by date and location.

In September, the cheapest price on Ticketmaster for a standard ticket to Metallica's M72 concert was $56 for the band's November 3 show in St. Louis, Missouri. Meanwhile, the least expensive original ticket to Metallica's Detroit, Michigan concert on November 10 started at $225. Since Metallica's M72 World Tour primarily consists of two shows at each location, you can also get deals for two-day passes cheaper than buying separate tickets for those dates.

Over the past several months, the cheapest available resale ticket listings have mostly decreased in price or stayed about the same. For example, the final two-day passes in Mexico City have decreased in price by more than $100. They were previously listed at $359 on StubHub, but they now go for $242 on the same site. Other dates, like the band's first night in Helsinki, have also seen more than $100 drops in price.

Various VIP packages for Metallica's tour come at a higher price, including the "Nothing Else Matters" Snake Pit Experience, "Moth Into Flame" Snake Pit Experience, "One" Enhanced Experience, "Seek & Destroy" Reserved Package, and "Frantic" Early Entry GA Package. An example of one of the cheapest VIP packages begins at $349 for the "Frantic" package and $399 for the "Seek & Destroy" package on September 1 in Seattle, Washington.

Original prices typically come in higher than resale prices for Metallica concerts. Many of the cheaper tickets are verified resales or originals to nearer tour dates, so you might find the best prices when it gets closer to the concert date.

Who is opening for Metallica's tour?

Metallica's M72 World Tour features various opening acts across multiple dates. In each city, the two dates scheduled there will have different opening acts. The opening act combinations include Architects, Mammoth WVH, Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills, Pantera & Mammoth WVH, Volbeat and Mammoth WVH, and Greta Van Fleet and Mammoth WVH.

Here's a breakdown of the dates and locations for which the opening acts will be performing.

Will there be international tour dates?

There are numerous international dates remaining in Metallica's M72 World Tour. The third leg of the concert tour is another international phase across Europe, which kicks off in May 2024. There will be two concerts in Germany, two in Finland, two in Denmark, two in Poland, and two in Spain, the last of which will conclude in July 2024.

The Metallica concert series then moves back to North America for the fourth and final leg, which includes six international shows: Two will be held in Edmonton, Canada, in August 2024, with the band taking their final bow of the entire M72 World Tour after their four shows in Mexico City, Mexico in September 2024.

Metallica’s guitarist promises ‘more of an experience’ during its Minneapolis takeover

Kirk Hammett says this weekend’s “no repeat” U.S. Bank Stadium shows are indicators they want to last like the Rolling Stones: “That’s our goal.”

By Chris Riemenschneider

Lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield of Metallica performed at Target Center.

Yes, it’s true: One of the reasons Metallica is taking a night off between its two mega-sized concerts in Minneapolis this weekend is to provide a little breathing room to its members, who now range in age from 59 to 61.

“For two of the guys in the band, the shows take a lot more of a physical toll on their bodies,” lead guitarist Kirk Hammett said. “The age thing is definitely a bit of a factor.”

The guitar hero didn’t name names — presumably frontman James Hetfield’s voice and drummer Lars Ulrich’s arms are where the physical challenges lie — but he did say all four members of metal’s biggest act of all time intend to keep playing Metallica gigs together as long as they can.

Thus, this night-off approach and other factors surrounding Friday’s and Sunday’s concerts at U.S. Bank Stadium are intended to help carry Metallica well past its current 43rd year as a band — like a certain other stadium-sized rock group has done.

“The Stones are setting another precedent playing into their 80s,” Hammett said. “That inspiring to us, man. That’s our goal.”

metallica tour 1 day ticket

Talking by phone two weeks ago before Metallica’s similarly split two-night stand at the New England Patriots’ stadium, Hammett raved about the way this new approach to touring has played out.

Each tour stop is a Friday/Sunday affair billed as a weekend-long “takeover,” and a “no repeat” marathon, too.

Fans are being offered a wide array of extracurricular events on the Saturday night between the two concerts. In Minneapolis, those options include film screenings, a DJ’ed bowling night, a photo exhibit and even a concert featuring bands led by two Metallica members’ sons (see the full Minneapolis Takeover list here ).

“We wanted to turn the weekend into more of an experience, like festivals are in Europe,” Hammett explained.

“A lot of European fans go out for festivals, and it becomes a weekend event. They’ll camp on the grounds and basically don’t leave the area for three days.”

There are different opening acts on each of the tour’s two-night stops, with the reformed Pantera and Wolfgang Van Halen’s Mammoth WVH on Friday (see Hammett’s comments on each band below), and then Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills on Sunday.

“Another way we’re making it more of a weekend event is by not playing the same set list each night,” Hammett added.

For the first time in more than three decades, songs like “Master of Puppets,” “Creeping Death” and “Enter Sandman” — which have been performed at literally every single Metallica concert for more than three decades — will not be performed each night this time around. Just one night apiece.

“I look at it as one long, continuous set list, with Part 1 on Friday and Part 2 on Sunday,” Hammett said. “I don’t see it as us not playing those songs.”

As for other selections in the extended, two-night set list, the guitarist explained, “It’s always changing.

“There are certain songs our fans just expect us to play. They come to hear those songs, and we know what those songs are. They’re always in the set. Then it’s all a matter of balancing out newer songs with deeper cuts and whatever else we might have in mind.”

The newest of those new songs are off last year’s “72 Seasons,” Metallica’s 11th studio album, which was started during the pandemic.

A rather typical-sounding collection in a good way, the record has been described by band members as their most “friction-free” in recording-studio terms. That’s saying a lot for a rock group whose bouts with infighting, sobriety and even group therapy were famously caught on film in the tense documentary “Some Kind of Monster.”

Asked about the drama-free recording process this time around, Hammett said, “I think that was partly because of the social-distancing involved.” But then he laughingly insisted, “That’s a joke.”

More seriously, he added, “We also had a lot of leeway in being able to record certain parts while we were still at home. That kind of made the process flow a little more smoothly.”

As for the usual heavy vibe in songs like “If Darkness Had a Son” and “Screaming Suicide” — among the handful from the album being played live on tour — Hammett said they were impacted by “the anger and anxiety shared by the general human populace at that point.

“Every Metallica record was impacted by the time period we were in during the making of it,” he said. “The difference in this case is it’s what everyone was going through.”

Coming out of that dark period only added to their desire to make these weekend-long takeovers extra festive for fans, Hammett added.

“There’s this whole camaraderie and togetherness thing on this tour that’s really been amazing and wonderful,” he said.

That trait, more than anything else, might indeed keep Metallica going well past this tour.

Here’s more of what Metallica’s guitarist had to say ahead of the band’s Minneapolis takeover:

On opening band Mammoth WVH’s leader Wolfgang Van Halen, whose late father, Eddie, was a mentor to Hammett: “Wow, what a guitar player. He just lives and breathes that guitar-playing legacy that his dad created. I’m so, so, so stoked to see that happening.”

On Friday’s other opener, Pantera, now featuring singer Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown with Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde and Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante following the deaths of co-founding brothers Vinnie and Darrell Abbott: “I think it’s a great thing. It’s a tribute to the brothers keeping their legacy alive. And it’s a great thing for Pantera fans. Even though it’s not the original Pantera, you still get to see Phil and Rex, and Zakk and Charlie are doing a damn good job.”

On the bands Bastardane and Ottto, featuring Castor Hetfield and Tye Trujillo, respectively, sons of Metallica members James Hetfield and Rob Trujillo (each performing Saturday at the Varsity Theater): “They’re great, but I really love any kid who’s keeping live music going… to see the younger generation picking up the tools and making real music in analog is really a wonderful thing. It’s so easy to just go to a computer these days and just be a one-man band. That’s fine, too, but you lose the chemistry and dynamic that real bands like these thrive on.”

On his day-off plans between the two Minneapolis shows: “We usually keep a low-profile those nights. The fans kind of keep the momentum going those nights. I am a big Prince fan, so I will take that into consideration. I’m a big Hüsker Dü fan, too. I love Bob Mould so much. So maybe I’ll drive around Minneapolis playing Hüsker Dü and Prince.”

When: 6 p.m. Fri. & Sun.

Where: U.S. Bank Stadium, 401 Chicago Av., Mpls.

With: Pantera and Mammoth WVH (Fri.), Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills (Sun.).

Tickets: $100-$320 two-day, $55-$245 one-day, ticketmaster.com .

Things To Do

Music and concerts | review: metallica puts on an exhilarating concert at soldier field on a stage just feet from its fans.

James Hetfield of Metallica performs at Soldier Field in Chicago on Aug. 9, 2024. (Tess Crowley/Chicago Tribune)

But the Lollapalooza crowd missed out on the inventive productions, perspective-shifting techniques and cutting-edge technologies the band unveils on its own tours. When those elements work in a balanced and cohesive fashion, and the music receives the ferocity and control it deserves, Metallica and the audience operate as a communal organism that shares the same energy, emotion and enjoyment.

Returning to Soldier Field for the first time since a disappointing date in June 2017, Metallica put a fresh spin on its familiar in-the-round configuration and reimagined the traditional concept of a stage. Comprised of a wide, 360-degree ovular walkway linked by two elevated platforms, and distinguished with an open-area center for a large Snake Pit, the arrangement allowed thousands of fans to surround it on the outer and inner perimeters. Raised just a few feet above floor level, its low-slung design gave the crowd on the field close-up views associated with small clubs. Those seated in the stands had the sense Metallica was standing and performing amid their fellow ticket holders.

Per Metallica tradition, the stage reflected a clean appearance free of equipment, cables and effects-pedal boards. Illumination emanated from floods cleverly scattered throughout the stadium, edge lighting, and from above, by way of eight metal towers crowned by cylindrical screens. Situated away from the runways, they helped maintain unobstructed sightlines from nearly every angle. The overall layout teased intimacy while imparting a dystopian grandeur that suggested everyone present had been dropped into a futuristic landscape.

Metallica’s amplification system, complete with linear line-array speakers arranged in three concentric rings, supplemented the smart visual aesthetic. Though it fell short of the warm, natural acoustics possible in some indoor theaters, the sound transmitted levels of clarity, dynamics and separation foreign to 60,000-plus capacity bowls while emitting volumes that exceeded 100 decibels and triggered safety threshold warnings on smartwatches.

Loud and transparent enough, too, to cause Lars Ulrich’s drum beats to register as a second, faster heart in your chest and expose any holes in the band’s complex architecture. Save for a few brief pauses that often doubled as slots in which one of Ulrich’s four drum kits covertly descended and another rose up in a different position on the dimmed stage, Metallica spent a majority of its 125-minute set ripping and storming through songs with palpable menace.

Sure, “Seek & Destroy,” during which the group unleashed a torrent of giant beach balls whose association with innocent fun put them squarely at odds with a song about slaying, forfeited its former edginess and landed as a harmless sing-a-long. And guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo’s disposable instrumental jam (dubbed “Chi-Town Gangster”) felt every second like the breather for Ulrich and singer-guitarist James Hetfield that it was.

Minor missteps aside, Metallica seemed reinvigorated and reaware of its identity. It also continues to innovate on the road with ideas that entice fans to come to them. No band does a better job of transforming concerts into destination experiences, with activities that stretch beyond the shows. These “takeover events” encompass book signings, film screenings, pop-up shops, liquor tastings, meet-and-greets, charitable volunteer opportunities and tribute performances.

To prepare fans for the cities it visits, Metallica uses its website to supply a comprehensive account of its historic local moments via interactive maps complete with journal entries, timelines, photos, and video clips. It recommends restaurants, bars, arcades and other sites to explore. Some spots are located near the show; several pour the band’s brand of whiskey or offer its pinball game.

The idea of Metallica serving as a travel concierge isn’t far-fetched when you consider the fast-evolving dynamics of big-name touring — as well as the logistical and financial extremes people increasingly accept to see their favorite acts. Expect high-profile artists to duplicate the quartet’s blueprint.

That strategy extends to the logistics of the current M72 Tour. To provide extra incentive for diehards to spend big money and trek hundreds of miles — and lessen the difficulty and expense associated with the set-up/tear-down processes, not to mention the physical wear and tear on the members — Metallica is playing two nights at nearly all the stops on its docket. Each show in the pairing features a different set without repeats from the sister concert.

On Friday, that meant selections from the band’s initial seven studio LPs and a focus on work dating from 1984 to 1991. Metallica bypassed a quarter-century’s worth of material — or, anything recorded between 1998 and last year’s “72 Seasons” album. The quartet made a strong case for two of the three tracks it played from the latter record, with a speed-racing rendition of the haunted title track goosed by Hetfield’s furious down strokes and the ping-ponging gait of “Shadows Follow” paralleling the running behavior cited in the song.

Metallica thrived when venturing into dark places. “Blackened” whipped into a dervish, its violence and viscousness illustrative of the 1988 song’s prophetic themes of environmental destruction and wartime fallout. The steel-toed boot heel of “Sad But True” ground hope into submission with massive riffs doubling as a sledgehammer slamming into an anvil and painful words biting into the subconscious. Grimmer still, an ominous “Harvester of Sorrow” slithered and stomped as its protagonist inflicted increasing degrees of madness, cruelty and terror upon victims.

Agitated and gruff, Hetfield’s bare-knuckled deliveries tore down the self-righteous and left everyone at his mercy. Taking the form of taunts, threats, tremors, grunts, commands and maniacal cackles, they harkened to an era before the 61-year-old began incorporating crooning into his repertoire. Even as microphone duties restrained his movements during vocal segments, he joined Hammett and Trujillo in freely roaming the stage. Members frequently saw themselves separated by hundreds of feet or at opposite ends from one another, or traded off hanging around near Ulrich.

Reinforcing their chemistry, and replicating what’s become a hallmark sight since they formed the band in 1981, Hetfield and Ulrich faced off during the decisive coda to “Fade to Black.” As he did in Grant Park two years prior, the tattooed singer halted before the final verse in attempt to reach anyone struggling with suicidal thoughts. “You’re lying if you haven’t thought about it,” Hetfield stated, drawing on his own experiences to underline the universality and urgency of mental health issues.

The power ballad celebrated its 40th anniversary just two weeks ago, yet it was another pioneering mid-80s epic that more definitively telescoped the brilliance and conjured the memory of the group’s long-deceased bassist, Cliff Burton, and what he meant to the band.

Never played onstage during his abbreviated life, “Orion” made its long-anticipated Chicago debut. Unspooling as a harmonic journey into an unknown infinite, and bound by beautiful melodies, atmospheric textures, classical components and alternating tempos, the instrumental composition found the foursome clustered in close proximity for an extended duration for the first and only time of the night. The exhilaration of garage days, re-revisited, again.

Seek and Destroy: Metallica fans descend on special pop-up store on Hennepin Ave. in search of unique merchandise

I t was 1985 (or 2018) all over again as hundreds of die hard Metallica fans descended upon downtown Minneapolis to visit a one of a kind pop-up store. Eight years ago, Metallica christened U.S. Bank Stadium with its first major concert and they're back again this weekend for a massive, two-night set.

And just like that 2018 show, the band set up a store in downtown Minneapolis for fans to get some special merchandise. When you're a 43-year old band, and still filling U.S. Bank Stadium for two nights, fans were both old and young.

"I'm 17," said one shopper.

They come from far and wide looking to seek and destroy .

"I'm from Texas," said another. "I want everything. I want one of each. I'm gonna get a Yeti and a t-shirt, so far. So far. These two want everything. It's holding them back. It's Metallica and I figure if I buy my t-shirts here then I don't have to stand in line at the stadium."

They were all in line - a line that stretched around the block just to get in the store Thursday morning - to get some one of a kind merchandise.

The pop-up store will be open 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day through Sunday. Bill Stone is the Manager of Metallica pop-up stores across North America.

"Pretty much everything in here is unique," Stone explained. "There's only a few shirts that are carried at the stadium."

That stadium is U.S. Bank Stadium where Metallica is playing two nights this weekend, a no-repeat concert extravaganza. They'll play Friday and again on Sunday in support of their newest album, their 11th full-length studio recording, "72 Seasons" in a career that has seen the thrashers from California bang their head all the way into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame .

For some who hit the pop-up store which is at 9th and Hennepin and easy to spot thanks to all the yellow Metallica signage, it was easy to find what they wanted.

"Limited edition stuff that you're going to get, city specific," a shopper told WCCO's Ari Bergeron. "The vinyl is Vikings purple and yellow. So, got to have it."

Who can blame him? But for others the shopping was not so simple.

"Yeah, because I want everything I want one of each," said a young woman who just couldn't decide.

But wherever they might roam .... they found something special.

It's a full-on Metallica Takeover weekend too. Other activities on Saturday include:

Bowling Takeover at Memory (Re) Lanes, 2520 26th Avenue S, Minneapolis, MN, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. The Metallica crew invite fans out for a day of bowling featuring a live performance by Metallica cover band "And ONE for All" on the lanes at 8 p.m. This is a non-ticketed event. Visit https://www.memorylanes.com/ for more information.

The Black Album in Black & White with Photographer Ross Halfin, Minneapolis Institute of Art, 2400 3rd Avenue S, Minneapolis, MN, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Tickets are required and available here .

Bastardane & OTTTO, Varsity Theater, 1308 SE 4th Street,, Minneapolis, MN, beginning at 7 p.m. Live in concert. Tickets are required and available here .

Metallica Film Fest, Riverview Theater, 3800 42nd Avenue S, Minneapolis, MN, beginning at 11 a.m. featuring screenings of the epic films "Cliff 'Em All," "Cunning Stunts" and "Orgullo, Pasion Y. Gloria: Tres Notes En La Ciudad De Mexico." Tickets are required and available here .

Metallica Takeover at Smash Park in Roseville, MN, from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. featuring free axe throwing and a Metallica Name That Tune to win tickets to U.S. Bank Stadium. This is a free, non-ticketed event.

The weekend is a massive rock spectacular in Minneapolis drawing thousands of concertgoers to downtown.

Besides Metallica, other bands in town include Def Leppard, Journey, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, and Hozier, all performing at Target Center sandwiched around the two Metallica shows.

Horns up Twin Cities.

Things to Do

Music and concerts, music and concerts | bassist robert trujillo talks about life as the newest member of metallica, the band has two shows booked at u.s. bank stadium.

Robert Trujillo plays the bass on stage

“When we are on the road, we are committed to it,” said bassist Robert Trujillo during a phone interview prior to the band’s pair of shows in Foxborough, Mass. “There’s really not enough time to go home. Monday ends up being a travel day, Tuesday and Wednesday you’re prepping for the next show, Thursday takes you into the gig on Friday.”

A California native, Trujillo began his career playing with Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves and later went on to perform with Ozzy Osbourne, Jerry Cantrell and Black Label Society. He met Metallica when Suicidal Tendencies toured with the group in 1993.

Three years after Metallica’s bassist Jason Newsted quit the band in 2000, they offered Trujillo the job. In the time since, Trujillo has performed on three Metallica albums and toured the world, including a one-off show in August 2016 when the band became the second act (after Luke Bryan) to headline the then-new U.S. Bank Stadium.

Here’s what Trujillo had to say about life as a member of Metallica.

On whether or not he still feels like the new guy:

There are moments when I feel like the new guy and moments where I feel like I’ve been around for almost 22 years now. It’s an interesting thing, feeling new kind of never really goes away. At the same time, I feel important to the cause.

On what it’s like to prepare for the tour:

The stage is massive, so a certain amount of physical training goes into it. We had three festival shows in a row in Europe. Festival stages are pretty big, but when I got back to our stage, I was pretty winded. It’s kind of like half the size of what we would normally deal with.

It’s a bit of a workout, (which is why) there’s a recovery day (between shows). It sounds crazy, but it works for us. We’re not 21 anymore.

On choosing the set lists:

We challenge ourselves. We don’t play the same set two nights in a row, we switch it up and get into deep cuts and instrumentals. There’s a lot of material, we have a lot of choices. We are excited about our new songs and play a handful of those per show. It keeps things interesting, combining the older material with the newer stuff and everything in between.

On what it’s like to be a member of Metallica:

On navigating the personalities in one of the biggest bands on the planet:.

You find your place. Everybody’s an important ingredient to the recipe. Each member of the band is completely different than the others. We come together and make this music. We get up on stage, we have fun. But that doesn’t mean when we’re away from Metallica we’re still hanging out. We’re friends, we have a lot of respect for each other. At the same time, we’re individuals. Everybody has a different lifestyle. It’s about mutual respect and being flexible, patient and solid at what you do.

On mounting what they call Metallica Takeover Weekend, with band-related activities around the city on the day between shows:

My son Tye has a band, Ottto. James’ son (Castor) also has a band. They play their shows on the day between our shows. It’s fun and it’s exciting. That’s what it’s supposed to be. Come see Metallica, see what we have to offer and then enjoy the city. It’s about being festive.

In Europe, we saw a lot of new faces, but also people who had been traveling around to each show. That was their summer vacation. Everybody seems to be having a really good time and enjoying the experience.

On what advice he gives his son:

He’s 20 now and doing his own thing. He’s working and that’s what he loves. It makes me happy, makes my wife happy. That’s how we roll.

Sometimes, as you probably know, young people need to do their own thing and sometimes make mistakes. It’s important for them to learn from the mistakes and have their own experience. As parents, we can’t help but say maybe you want to make this decision, but we’re not telling him what to do. It’s an interesting time for him, his early 20s becomes about making a lot of important decisions. I try to help when I can.

On his memories of helping christen the Vikings stadium:

Everything about that was memorable, even the surreal imagery of that stadium, looking like a big ship. Everything was fresh and new and the crowd was amazing.

The Vikings have always been an interesting team for me, with my history of loving football. I grew up in the ’70s being a Rams fan. My cousin was a Vikings fan, so there was a rivalry between us.

I have an incredible amount of respect for the Vikings and also just Minneapolis as a whole. Playing at First Avenue was always a main stop for me back in the day. That was a place you had to play, like a rite of passage in rock and roll. I have a lot of really incredible memories of the awesome people. And the great music. Prince has always been a huge inspiration for me. He was amazing.
