How to put up a travel cot

How to put up a travel cot

You've spent the day travelling with your family, you're exhausted and ready for sleep, but all that remains is to get everyone ready for bed. But wait...how do you put up a travel cot?

We know that putting together baby gear is rarely as simple as it's made out to be, so to make your life easier, we've pulled together instructions on how to put up a travel cot for four of the most popular travel cots on the market.

You'll notice that while most are pretty similar, some differ slightly and even offer the option of a newborn bassinet.

Bugaboo Stardust Travel Cot

Take the travel cot out of the bag.

Release the buttons on the side and unfold.

To set up the newborn bassinet

Take out the mattress.

Zip in the bassinet.

Attach the velcro straps to the mattress and place the mattress in the bed.

Baby Bjorn Travel Cot Light

Open the bag. Lift out the cot.

Hold the two short sides. Turn the cot so its legs are towards the floor and unfold it with one clear movement so that the legs unfold.

Make sure that each leg is securely in place by trying to push it back into its folded position without pulling the leg.

Place the mattress inside the cot. Pull the four red strap loops on the underside of the mattress cover through the holes in the bottom of the cot. Fasten each loop to a red hook.

BabyDan Travel Cot

Unzip the bag and remove the travel cot and stand the unit upright. Separate two velcro labs.

Remove the mattress pad and separate the four corner posts.

Lift the side rails upwards from the middle until each locks into position. Side rails must be raised above the horizontal position before they lock.

Push the centre support until it locks into position.

Lay mattress pad on the floor of the travel cot, soft side up. The middle velcro lab in both ends of the mattress are to put through the two holes in the cot and attached to the velcro under the cot.

Nuna Sena Aire

To open the travel cot frame, unfasten hook and loop straps from the mattress and unfold.

Pull the short sides of the travel cot frame outward.

Reach through the bassinet and push down on the center hub at the bottom of the travel cot.

To set up the bassinet, install the mattress soft side up.

To set up the Nuna Sena Aire Travel Cot

Remove the mattress from the bassinet. Remove the 4 snaps on the bassinet fabric from the snaps at the center of each side of the travel cot.

Release the 4 buckles on the four corners of the travel cot. Once the buckle is separated, remove long strap from the loop on the travel cot.

Remove the bassinet from the travel cot.

Place the mattress on the bottom of the Travel cot.

Feeding the straps on the corners through the holes. Fasten the hook and loop. Repeat on other corners.

How to put up a travel cot + and help collapse a stuck travel cot in SECONDS

How to put up a travel cot

HELP! The travel cot side is stuck! Help! The travel cot won’t stay up! Ahhhhhhh the travel cot won’t collapse! I think it’s broken!

Sound familiar? Are you currently stuck with one of these problems, or any travel cot issue? Well, this is a post is for you! I’ve done a quick video to show you how to put your travel cot up, down, and unstick the sides… basically answering all those pesky problems that make them so irritating…

After 5 years of travel cots and using many different ones, either cots we’ve owned or in cottages or caravans on holiday, I can confirm this how many difference branded travel cots work – all the same . So if your travel cot is a Mothercare, Babystyle, Joie, Red Kite, ….. or some other brand most of these work the same way and get stuck in the same way… this is how to get your travel cot up, make the sides stay up, get it down, and make those sides click and unclip.

How to put up a travel cot

  • Click the sides together – pull them up so they are ridged, both halves of the side should clunk in straight. Do opposite sides together, if you can. It should form a rectangle.
  • Push the middle down (in the base) – make sure the legs can move out as you do this (lifting a side in the corner can help).

How to take down a travel cot

It’s basically the opposite of putting it up!

  • Pull the middle up from the base (use the loop). It will probably fall over as you do this so hold a side!
  • Unclip the sides – squeeze the catch in the middle of each side so the sides are floppy and swing! Do opposite sides together so you know it’s even!

Let me know if this helps, and if you prefer to read the instructions I’ve popped a guide at the bottom of this post.

Have you had the same travel cot struggles as us? Let me know in the comments, and if this helped too!

Travel cot is stuck, travel cot instructions to put up and fold travel cot

Our struggle was real and that’s why I’ve been meaning to write this for years: we have battled with the travel cot so many times when H was little, before we really got to grips with it. Basically, putting up a travel cot is easy when you remember the knack but putting one up and down is something none of us do often. Many a time, we’d arrive late desperate to get the cot up for a sleepy baby/toddler and there would be me saying “YOU DO IT!” to the husband when I just couldn’t get the side to stay up.

You might remember I started this blog to be helpful for instance blogging about how we fix the Perfect Prep temperature warning light in a heatwave, or how to keep a toddler’s hat on… well this is one I’ve had on my list for years. How to put up a travel cot and take it down, including how to make the side click, and how to get it back down when it just won’t collapse.

I hope this helps if you’re stuck with your travel cot, a side not going up or down, or just the whole cot stuck up. Let me know in the comments below if it helped, and share with your friends if you like it!

Hi Mummies Scrummies and Bumpies....

So if you do have the instructions would you be so kind as to dig them out and type em on here for me.....save my sanity

my hubby says that in the middle of the long length bar at either side there is a white dot on the fabric that signifies where the button is - you need to squeeze the button in (middle of the knuckley thing on the bar) and pull up then it should collapse.

hope this helps let me know if it doesnt make sense!

Ta for replying Micaleff xxx Can you relay this to you hubby, as I am doing what he said but its not working....

I have removed the matress, pulled up the centre thingy in the base....I have pushed the button in on the side and felt it "give", then I have pulled up the bar....nothing happening...I have tried all 4 sides!

member avatar

ok said......

try pushing the middle flat again and do the sides first once sides are loose then pull middle up......

ps we tied to do it exactly like the instructions and it just didnt seem to work lol but they may be my heavy handed hubby!

Whilst holding the button in gently push the arm downwards. Louise, I used some advice from Micaleff too and once the button was in I pulled the arm upwards slightly, then pushed it down x

Its a pain isn't it. OH saved me from destroying our's! Will be taking our's to Devon in 2 weeks though so it better be good!!

How to Put Up a Travel Cot + Babyway Travel Cot Instructions & Review

Looking for Babyway travel cot instructions? Click here to go straight to that part of the article.

I bought our Babyway Classic Travel Cot about two years ago. I got it for going on a weekend away on a Lake District holiday . Our firstborn daughter had just turned one and we needed somewhere for her to sleep safely on these trips. After that, we didn’t use it for nearly two years. This was simply because we didn’t go anywhere where we needed a travel cot. The only place we went like that was Sweden but I already had a travel cot there. It was one that was pretty much the same as the Babyway Classic Travel Cot but by a Swedish brand. It was just easier to have one to keep at my mum’s house.

This item is an essential for us when we’re going away somewhere with the kids. If you’re travelling with pets too, Kitty Cat Reviews has put together a list of good travel carriers for cats.

Last week, I got the travel cot out again because we now have a second baby and she’s on the move! There’s nowhere upstairs where she can play safely as her sister is still using the normal cot as a toddler bed. We co-sleep with Baby No. 2 so she doesn’t have a cot to use as a play pen. I can’t believe the difference in my sanity now! I now get the travel cot out every day. We use it as a play pan so that my baby can play safely while I do some work on the computer, put the washing away or give the toddler a bath.

Babyway Travel Cot Instructions

The first time putting the travel cot up after not using it for a while wasn’t easy though. Having not used the Babyway travel cot for so long, I’d forgotten the knacks of putting it up quickly. I got flustered trying to get the frame to click into place even after reading the Babyway travel cot instructions. After a few minutes of getting sweaty, I googled “How to Put Up a Babyway Travel Cot” . That’s when I found the video below. It much more helpful seeing a visual of how to put up a travel cot. I’m sure the below video will be helpful to you too!

Babyway Classic Travel Cot Review

This travel cot/play pen is suitable from birth until three years old or up to 15kgs. The size is 780 x 1190 x 600mm and the cot comes with a thin base mattress that also wraps around the folded up bed when you put it away.

The travel cot packs away neatly into a storage/carry bag with handles and this makes it easy to store, travel with and keep it clean.

How to Put Up a Babyway Travel Cot + Babyway Classic Travel Cot Review A Mum Reviews

It’s a sturdy travel cot with a padded central locking rigid frame and mesh windows so that you can easily see your baby and your baby can see you. The material is easy to clean with a cloth.

I really love this travel cot and it’s now being used each and every day to ensure I get some stuff done and my littlest one can play without bumping into things or getting to things or areas that are not suitable for her. She’s also safe away from her sister’s reach and gets to have her toys to herself for a little while which is nice for her.

I highly recommend it and the price tag of around £30.00 is brilliant! It’s not surprising that it’s a best seller! Get yours from Amazon.co.uk.

Which Mattress Can Be Used with the Babyway Classic Travel Cot?

If we can, we take our regular cot mattress with us on trips as it’s the same size as the travel cot. Our regular mattress is 1200 x 600 mm and from IKEA. This travel mattress fits it too.

Collaboration.

This is doing my head in, ladies please help!! We've just got a travel cot from kiddicare (their own) its 1 where u put the sides up & click into place & then push the base down. However....1 of the sides wont lock!! Im pretty sure its something that we're doing wrong as its never been used before, so don't think its broken, anyone else had this???!!! HELP!!X

Welsh mtb

I know you have probably already checked but the instructions should be on the mattress how to do it exactly. I didnt know that most travel cots have the instructions on the mattress until my friend told me after I had cut the sides open on mine with a knife after wrestling with it for an hour! I was convinced one of the catches were broken so I cut it open and then threw it out my garden in temper. My mate came around the next day saw it in the garden and asked if I had followed the instructions on the mattress as all cots are different and I was like ooooohh shit! Id never even used it! x

Mine is a mothercare one and i eventually realised after many tantrums that it wont go up unless i click the shorter sides into place first then the 2 longer sides all one at a time then push base down. If i triedto click a longer side into place first then there would always be a side left that didnt work x

Mine is red kite and I have to click the longer sides up and then the shorter ones, sometimes I have to persist and really flick them up untill they click into place and then push the bottom down! I hope you work it out that must be really frustrating, have you looked on you tube? Kiddicare have tutorials for there products on there xx

You need to Make sure the base is pulled up really high into the centre before clicking the sides into place. It should have a loop on the base pull this really high towards thr cieling and the thing should br all floppy. Hope this helps my mum couldn't get it up one night so had to come home and show her and then I couldnt! After about an Hour we finally got it.

Yep same advice as everyone else...base needs to be pulled up high, then click all sides into place then push down mattress. Or at least that is how most travel cots work!

helen_beee

Mammy and Oliver

As pp's have said, make sure all sides are locked in before pushing the base down. I fought with mine for hours and the instructions were extremely unclear before I went online and googled putting up a travel cot!

Thanks girls, ill give it a try this morn....fingers crossed!!!x

If you think that's bad - try putting it back DOWN. 2 hours...

Well thanks for all ur suggestions, but I think its faulty, no matter what I do the 1 side wont play ball, the other 3 sides go up no probs at all, what a pain in the arse!!!x

Hey, if anyone is still having problems with their bed (I'm sure some do), there is a video explaining how it works. See "How to fold a portable travel bed - problems with assemble and disassemble" on youtube. Video ID on youtube: suIrWs25Kaw

I just signed up in frustration. Needed this thing setup quickly as bubs was needing a sleep. I have a dimples portacot. Followed the stupid instructions but sides would never lock. So i broke all the sides...i feel sooo much better now. Who writes these stupid instructions and why design such a convoluted locking system. I wonder if engineer who designed it was ever sleep deprived and wanted their child to sleep so desperately.....ohhh feel so much better now.. thank you for letting me release my steam....
