National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures Destinations

North america, about national geographic journeys with g adventures.

TRAVEL, ENHANCED National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures are a collection of unique National Geographic tours designed to take you deeper into the cultures and habitats of the places we explore. They offer more inclusions, greater hands-on exploration, interactions with local experts, and the freedom to roam, all within the structure and security of travelling in a small group.

Travel With Confidence

When you’re ready to travel again, we're here to support you. Your safety, as well as the safety of our employees and partners, has always been our top priority, which is why new physical distancing and cleaning measures have been put in place on all of our tours. Our new Travel with Confidence policy features new health and safety procedures from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, without taking away from having the time of your life. The policy will evolve as time goes on and as we continue to monitor local public health recommendations, but what won’t change is our commitment to keeping you safe as you explore our big, beautiful world.

G Adventures has received the World Travel and Tourism Council’s Safe Travels stamp, which provides travellers with assurance that we have implemented health and hygiene protocols that are aligned with WTTC’s Safe Travels Protocols

As a major contributing partner in the creation of these recommendations, G Adventures is proud to be implementing ATTA's COVID-19 Health & Safety Guidelines , developed in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic, across all our tours.

Our GCOs (the people who answer when you call us) are available 24/7 to help with any questions you have prior to your trip, so you can feel confident and safe before leaving. No matter what time of day, they're there to respond to you — even at 3AM. They'll be up to date on local regulations and restrictions and can guide you through your travel process as smoothly as possible. And if you don't feel well before travelling, there's our Book with Confidence policy that helps you reschedule your trip for when you do, which they can help you with too (terms & conditions apply). If you book flights with us and there are any changes, rest assured that the team will support you by making new arrangements on your behalf.

Our groups have always been small. This offers security, access, camaraderie, and a connection with your destination you won't get by travelling on bus tours or on your own.

Our CEOs are responsible for ensuring you have the time of your life while keeping you as safe as possible. Here’s how they’re ready to do that:

  • They’re trained in First Aid, CPR, and other safety protocols
  • They’re supported 24/7 by the field staff in our offices around the world who are well-equipped to handle emergencies
  • They can help you find local clinics if you're feeling sick
  • They’ll receive new training to ensure they are up to date on all health and safety policies during these evolving times
  • They have extensive local knowledge to proactively help you navigate wherever you’re travelling
  • Their local knowledge allows for greater flexibility when it comes to knowing the best time to visit certain highlights to avoid crowds whenever possible and suggesting the restaurants with the strictest hygiene practices or those where you can reserve your own table or room in advance
  • They’ll wear face masks when necessary based on local guidelines and recommendations

Our travellers' safety and wellbeing is our biggest concern. If you're not feeling well before your departure, we have a Book with Confidence policy that provides you with flexibility and freedom to delay leaving until you’re back to 100% healthy (terms & conditions apply). If you have a fever or any other symptoms on tour, you may be required to have a doctor clear you before rejoining us. All travellers are requested to bring face coverings, whether they're buffs, face masks or bandanas (extra style points encouraged). We'll make every effort to have hand sanitizer available, but we recommend bringing your own.

Small private transport vehicles

  • Every surface in our well-kept fleet of private vehicles will get at least one daily deep cleaning
  • Each traveller will have a daily assigned seat
  • Hand-sanitizer will be required every time you board the vehicle
  • Facial coverings will be recommended while on-board
  • Every surface will get at least one daily deep cleaning
  • High-traffic areas will receive more frequent cleaning
  • Hand-sanitizer or hand washing will be required every time you board the boat, as well as before and after meals
  • To support physical distancing, meals may have assigned seating and there will be assigned slots for activities and rooming
  • Facial coverings will be recommended and welcomed on-board
  • Your crew is trained in health and safety measures (including food handling) and all cooking staff will follow up-to-date advice from health authorities

Local Transporation

  • Use of local transportation will be limited wherever possible. Please reference the Trip Details for each individual tour for specifics
  • If local transportation is used, precautions will be followed in adherence to local health and safety regulations to keep our travellers safe and sound.

We’ve always carefully selected our accommodation partners for their high standards and local roots. Travelling in small groups means that we stay at smaller hotels too, with fewer guests — which means less daily contact with others outside your group in public spaces. Now we are working with our accommodation partners to optimize their health, safety and cleanliness procedures, as well as creating additional measures for physical distancing. Here are some of the things we’re working on to help keep you safe:

  • Daily deep cleaning and disinfecting of all surface areas inside your room with extra cleaning on light switches, door handles, TV remotes, and thermostats
  • No hotel staff will enter your room after it has been cleaned
  • Increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting of all public restrooms and all surfaces in public areas. This might include the closure of public spaces such as gyms, bars, restaurants, and meeting rooms for periods throughout the day
  • Wherever possible, our groups will stay on the lower floors to limit elevator use
  • Hotels will implement physical distancing protocols in line with local regulations
  • This is just the beginning of our commitments to keeping you sleeping safe and sound. We will continue to evolve and roll-out these and additional policies as needed.

We have always carefully selected our food service partners and worked closely with them to ensure they are meeting health, safety, and cleanliness standards with their facilities, staff training, and food preparation and delivery. Wherever possible, we will reserve separate tables or private rooms at the restaurants we visit, opt for more "al fresco" opportunities when we can (gotta love that fresh air!), and ensure breakfasts can be “grab and go” boxes, while avoiding family style or self-serve buffets for meals. We want you to feel comfortable and safe as you savour every last bite.

You’ve always had freedom and flexibility to do your own thing on our tours with optional activities and experiences. Now, you’ll still have those options with added measures to keep you healthy and safe. All equipment for activities on tour, including hiking poles, camping supplies, life jackets, snorkels, etc., will be cleaned thoroughly at least once a day and disinfected between use. When travellers are responsible for putting up their own tents on camping itineraries, you will be given the supplies required to disinfect your gear. We will also do our best to make activities and highlights stops happen during non-peak hours, so you can have fun and feel safe no matter what you’re doing.

If you’re not feeling well at the end of your tour for any reason, let your CEO know and they can help get you access to medical care and support. Because we want you to head home after a life-changing experience feeling just as good (let’s be honest, way better) than when you left.

10 Best G Adventures Tours to Take in 2024

These g adventures trips have especially amazing itineraries..

Megan duBois

Review: EF Go Ahead’s Food & Wine: Piedmont & Tuscany with America’s Test Kitchen

Founded in 1990, G Adventures has been offering exceptional adventure-focused small group tours to bucket-list destinations around the world for more than 30 years. The travel company’s trips are a great fit for younger travelers, families, and active people of any age who want to learn about their destination in an immersive and hands-on way.

Something I love about G Adventures is that in addition to its own tours, the company also partners with National Geographic for special different tour types: National Geographic Journeys with G Adventures and National Geographic Family Journey’s with G Adventures . It also partners with Dr. Jane Goodall’s institute (for Jane Goodall Collection tours) to showcase locations and experiences that bring people together with the natural world.

The Best G Adventures Tours to Take in 2024

Group tours with G Adventures include all of the essentials like accommodations, local guides, activities, meals, and transfers between places. Each trip accommodates up to 15 people, but the average group size is 10. For solo travelers , there’s often no single supplement fee on G Adventures tours, though you may share a room with another traveler. While G Adventures tours number in the hundreds, these 10 stand out for 2024 with especially amazing itineraries in some of the most dazzling destinations around the world.

If there were an option for 10 stars, I would use it. This vacation was absolute perfection. We just returned from Peru with Brand g. It was by far the best tour we have ever taken. Our host, James Mayo and his husband Jeremy were beyond hosts. We made friends that will last a lifetime… The meals were some of the best we’ve ever experienced. All the stops and tours were fantastic. Machu Picchu was pure magic. I cannot recommend them highly enough. We are already planning our next trip with Brand g Vacations.

Micheal Buchanan

Brand G is a fantastic tour company that routinely exceeds expectations on every front. Each interaction is a pleasure. From the Duro River in Portugal to the South of France, the jungles of the Amazon to the Coasts of the Adriatic each Brand G experience has done, for me, what good travel does. I leave a bit smarter, a bit more connected to the world’s people and places, and enriched with a whole lot of new friends. Thanks Brand G for making getting to the world’s remarkable places so relaxed and so truly memorable.

Matt Nielsen

I have had the pleasure of joining Brand g on four cruises and have back-to-back cruises on the Rhine and Danube planned for this summer. Everything about these trips has been professional and first rate, and I’ve yet to have a bad experience. I can’t recommend Brand g highly enough.

The Prague / Danube River Cruise 2018 was my first trip with Brand G.  They made it so easy every step of the way — from the initial contact, to adding extra nights before/after the tour, to airport pick ups, and everything in between.  The MS Amadeus Silver II is a beautiful ship with a friendly and helpful crew.  The on-board meals were delicious.  The rooms were spacious.  The on-board entertainment was fantastic.  Jeff and Brian were incredibly attentive and jumped thru hoops to ensure that every passenger had an amazing experience.  I will not hesitate to book another trip with Brand G.

I have been on three Brand g trips, and they have all been fantastic, each in its own way. It started with Galapagos and Ecuador; followed by Greek Islands cruise, from Istanbul to Athens; and then Danube River cruise, starting in Prague and ending in Budapest. I can’t say enough about Jeff Gundvaldson and Brian Van Wey, the outstanding leaders of Brand g. They are incredibly attentive to detail, both before and during the trips. And I’m taking another trip with them in September!

We absolutely love Brand g! Everything is taken care of, from pick up at the airport to delivery back after your trip. You just need to do your own air travel, and they handled everything else! Also met a bunch of wonderful people, and can’t wait to meet more. Glad we are booked for 2018 & 2019! Can’t wait!

G Adventures Review: My Honest Opinion

g trip vacation

Sharing is caring:

G Adventures Review

Are you considering a tour with G Adventures ? Here’s my honest G Adventures review!

G Adventures is a group tour company that describes themselves as having a focus on “small group, sustainable, adventure travel.” They have been running tours for more than 30 years and currently offer tours on all seven continents.

I’m going to talk about my personal experience with G Adventures this year, as well as whether I recommend them to other travelers.

I did a 16-day Costa Rica Adventure tour with G Adventures and it was the first time I had ever done a group tour, and I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Here’s my honest review of my experience with G Adventures and whether I recommend them!

Who Are G Adventure Tours For?

First of all, let’s talk about the target audience for G Adventures.

G Adventures tours are a good option for a variety of travelers. As a whole, I would say they are more focused on adventure travel and more standard accommodations (not super budget or super luxury.)

However, they do offer different categories of tours, with some of them being tailored toward specific age groups, interests, or travel styles. The categories for tours are:

  • Classic Tours
  • National Geographic Journeys
  • 18-to-Thirtysomethings Tours
  • Wellness Tours
  • Active Tours
  • Marine Tours

And a few more! You can see all their categories here on their website .

The Classic Tours is a great option for anyone. From what I gather, the National Geographic Journeys typically attract older travelers or families and are more luxurious, while the 18-to-thirtysomethings tours are obviously for a younger crowd and more basic.

If you have a specific interest, like wellness or outdoor activities, you can choose a tour that is more heavily focused on those aspects and incorporates them into the itinerary.

Manuel Antonio National Park

My G Adventures Cost Rica Tour Experience

I did the G Adventures 16-day Costa Rica Adventure tour in February 2021.

This was obviously an interesting time to be traveling because of the pandemic, and so there ended up only being me and one other girl on their tour (along with our guide!)

More on their COVID policies and cancellation policies further down!

I really enjoyed this experience because we basically had a private tour. Obviously, this isn’t the norm, and on a typical tour, you can expect to have 10-15 other travelers.

However, you can also book a private group tour with G Adventures (for example, if you just want it to be you and your family or a group of friends and no strangers.)

On this tour, we visited the following destinations:

We enjoyed adventurous activities like waterfall rappelling, ziplining, surf lessons, a catamaran cruise, nature walks, hiking to a waterfall, a jungle boat safari, and so much more.

Costa Rica is famous for its biodiversity, and we saw plenty of animals like monkeys, sloths, toucans, caimans, crocodiles, frogs, and more in the wild!

Highlights of My Tour

Honestly, I enjoyed almost everything about my tour with G Adventures. The whole time I was on my tour, I was thinking of how glad I was that I did it!

Some of the main highlights for me were…

I thought the price for this tour ($1,600 when I went) was fair and worked out to about $100 per day. This included hotels, transportation, some activities, and some meals.

I did spend an extra $750 on food and activities that weren’t included in the tour.

Overall, I felt like this is the amount I would have spent even if I had traveled independently since Costa Rica is the most expensive country in Central America. It was well worth it not to have to worry about planning the logistics myself, which I normally have to do as a solo traveler .

Our guide (or CEO as G Adventures calls them) was great!

Having a local Costa Rican guide was really nice and helpful, and I felt like I experienced more of the country than I would have on my own. Our guide was also super fun and friendly and since we had such a small group it just felt like traveling with another friend!

Again, it was also nice to have someone who dealt with all the logistics and organization, meaning I didn’t have to worry about anything for the entire two weeks of the tour

The ease of the tour

Going off of what I said above, it was nice to be on a tour where I didn’t have to worry about planning or arranging anything myself. I had never done an organized tour like this before, but I would definitely do it again because it was such a fun, seamless experience.

If you don’t enjoy planning trips but want a vacation that’s more active and adventurous than just sitting in an all-inclusive resort somewhere, G Adventures tours are a great option.

As a solo traveler, I normally do ALL the planning for trips myself, and it can get exhausting. So one of the best parts of this tour was not having to worry about any of that.

Our itinerary

I felt like I really got to see the highlights of Costa Rica on this itinerary!

It was a mix of beaches, jungle, and mountains. We saw so much wildlife and got to do so many cool activities.

Although we only spent 2-3 days in each place, it felt like enough time and never felt rushed. I definitely would not change anything about the itinerary for this trip.

G Adventures Review

Lowlights of My Tour

Honestly, I only had one disappointment on my tour, and that was the accommodations.

When I booked my tour, I hadn’t done much research into the accommodations, but I knew I was booking the “Standard” service level (out of Basic, Standard, and Upgraded) and we would be staying in 3 star hotels described as “comfortable tourist-class accommodations” on this tour.

I’ve stayed at plenty of great 3-star hotels (and even 2-star hotels) around the world, but the quality of accommodation on my Costa Rica tour left me pretty disappointed.

Out of all seven places we stayed on this tour, I would not recommend a single one.

Some of the issues at our hotels included…

  • Lack of amenities (no hand towels, washcloths, shampoo, or even soap…)
  • No air conditioning in several places
  • WiFi that barely worked or didn’t work at all
  • Non-working appliances (lamps, etc.)
  • Lizards, spiders, ant infestations, and other bugs…

I was just really unimpressed with the accommodations on this tour, and it would definitely make me hesitate to book a standard service-level tour with G Adventures again.

I would probably book an Upgraded service level tour instead or do extensive research on all of the accommodations first if I was going to do Standard.

Overall, while this was definitely the biggest drawback, I still highly enjoyed my tour. The accommodations on this particular tour might not even bother you, depending on how picky you are when it comes to where you stay. I’m definitely on the more picky side!

I also can’t speak for the hotels on any other G Adventures tour since this is the only one I’ve done.

Two Week Costa Rica Itinerary

G Adventures Cancellation Policy

G Adventures Book with Confidence policy allows you to cancel or reschedule your tour up to 45 days prior to departure. It’s a pretty flexible policy that makes it a no-brainer in terms of booking ahead.

And during the pandemic when travel plans and restrictions were constantly changing, G Adventures introduced a flexible cancellation policy that allowed you to cancel and rebook your tour up to 14 days prior to departure. This gave you maximum flexibility when booking a tour. It’s not so relevant now, but I appreciated this policy back then.

Would I Recommend G Adventures?

Yes, I would definitely recommend G Adventures.

Even though I was pretty disappointed with the accommodations on my tour, I overall still REALLY enjoyed the experience, and I’ll be reminiscing on this trip for a long time to come!

This trip was a major highlight of my months in Central America.

If you’re looking for a group tour option that’s not too expensive and is guaranteed to be an adventure, G Adventures is the perfect choice for you.

I hope you found these G Adventures review helpful!

G Adventures: Is It Worth the Money? Our Honest Review

It's never easy to pick a group tour, especially when they're all saying the same things. Are they actually as great as they're saying they are? Find out what their tours feature, whats their pros and cons are, and how they compare to other tour companies.

g trip vacation

Traveling solo is quite difficult when compared to traveling in a group with friends or family. You have to tackle everything from planning the trip to navigating your way to conversing in a foreign language with locals. This is where Pilot comes in handy to aid you in the trip planning process and allow you to focus on making meaningful experiences. However, planning a trip alone all by themselves is not for everyone.

This is why tour companies are a good choice for solo travelers who also have less experience! They can help you optimize your travel experience better. But, as you might know already, there’s an endless list of options when it comes to tour companies. As if choosing from the endless possibilities of tour companies isn’t enough, the entire outcome of your trip depends on the tour company you choose.

Let us help you pick the right tour company for you. We’re here to review a popular adventure travel company, G Adventures.

G Adventures is a tour service that pledges to “Do the Right Thing” by offering travelers valuable experiences and supporting local communities at the same time. It is a company that supports ethical tourism, and we thought it is worth your attention.

If you're looking for more options, we've previously done reviews of similar tour companies like GetYourGuide so you might want to check that out as well!

What is G Adventures?

G Adventures , formerly known as Gap Adventures, was founded by Bruce Poon Tip in 1990. It is an adventure travel company that carries out guided tours in small groups of up to 16 people. They offer itineraries to destinations around the world, mostly with local tour guides to assist travelers.

Since its inception, G Adventures tour has earned fame as a tour operator that offers unique and off-the-beaten-path experiences for travelers, with a focus on sustainability and responsible travel.

Who uses G Adventures?

G Adventures tour caters to travelers aged 18 and above. Its main client base consists of young to middle-aged travelers, and some tours are restricted to independent travelers between 18-39 years. However, there are packages for older travelers and families as well.

G Adventure tours are mainly focused on adventure travel aspects, but they do provide other types of travel tours. They offer a standard tour service which is neither budget-friendly nor luxurious but somewhere in between. G Adventures is ideal if you need the support of a reliable tour company but with ample flexibility to do your own thing!

Friends and travelers using G adventures

What does a G Adventures tour include?

Every trip has a Chief Experience Officer (CEO), otherwise known as a tour guide, to assist the group throughout the trip. They are mostly locals, although some can be expats with good knowledge about the destination.

G Adventures will take care of accommodation, transportation (within the destination), some meals (mostly breakfast), and the costs of entrance tickets for attractions and other major experiences included in the itinerary.

What’s not included in the pricing are visas, airfare (unless you book via them), border crossing fees, meals, additional activities, and tips. So, it's necessary to bring extra cash.

What are the types of tours offered by G Adventures?

G Adventures offers a long list of tours based on different travel styles, experiences, and age categories.

  • Classic Tours : A mix of different experiences that include major attractions and activities, cultural sites, uncommon and local experiences.
  • National Geographic Journeys : A high-end tour with close-up experiences of the best attractions and activities of the destination.

What's Great About G Adventures.

In a G Adventures tour, every major aspect of a trip is planned for you, ensuring you have a hassle-free experience. This way, you can focus on enjoying the trip without worrying about logistics, accommodation, etc. You also don’t have to worry about tackling a new language as your tour guide will help you.

  • Better travel experience

Many guided-tour companies carry out tours in large, crowded groups, and it’s not a very comfortable experience. Most of the time, it feels like you are taken from place to place with less time to enjoy them. G Adventures tours allow for more interaction. They hire knowledgeable local tour guides to give you informative details! Their tours also focus on authentic and off-the-beaten-path activities, helping you derive more localized experiences.

Many G Adventures reviews praised the service for its reasonable pricing. There are tours available in varying budget ranges, offering a choice for everyone. Traveling with a tour company shouldn’t cost you an arm and a leg, and G Adventures is a good example of it.

  • Transparency

G Adventure’s “Ripple Score” shows the impact of your spending on local communities. This way, you know how your travel supports the livelihood of people and businesses that need support. If you feel like making an impact while you’re traveling, this is the perfect opportunity to do so!

  • Female-friendly

If you are a solo female traveler, there would be a bunch of concerns, regardless of how safe a destination is. G Adventures is renowned as one of the best tour companies for female travelers. They pair you with a female traveler when sharing accommodation and will update you on tips to stay safe when touring around.

G adventures advertisement

What's Not Great About G Adventures.

  • Tour guides

Your tour guide can significantly elevate or hamper your experience. While most of them tend to be very knowledgeable and eager to help, there are instances where travelers have got stuck with unreliable guides who are just there for the money.

  • The cancellation policy

Although G Adventures claims to have a flexible refund policy, it seems to be otherwise. Many customers had to go through a frustrating process and lousy customer service to cancel their trips and claim a refund. Some had to wait over a year.

Also, G Adventures had canceled many trips over the last year due to the pandemic and has refused to provide refunds, inconveniencing many customers. Keep reading to find out what other people have been saying about their experiences.

  • Poor choice of accommodation (rarely)

There had been instances when travelers had to stay in subpar hotels throughout their tour. The complaints included lack of amenities, insect bites, and poor customer service. We think it’s important to provide comfortable accommodation so travelers can get a good rest before their next trip.

Although not really a con, we like to warn you about how extras can easily pile up your expenses. When traveling in a group, you are somewhat compelled to go with the rest – be it dinner at an expensive restaurant or a river cruise (who wants to be a party pooper?). You might overspend if you are not cautious enough, especially if you are on a tight budget.

G Adventures vs. Contiki tours - What’s the difference?

A popular question amongst travelers looking for tour companies to choose from is the difference between the G Adventures tour and the Contiki tour. Which tour company offers the better touring experience, and why?

G Adventures and Contiki are both adventure-based tours that cater to young adults. They’re both small to medium-sized tours that offer authentic and local experiences. If you’re a solo traveler, both tours will likely pair you up with one or more travelers of the same gender in shared accommodation.

In general, if you’re interested in socializing, making new friends, and partying, Contiki might be a better choice. If you’re interested in a slower-paced tour with more free time, then G Adventures might be the better choice for you.

As always, it’s a good idea to check the individual tours that you’re interested in to see what kinds of activities or people it would attract. If you’re not interested in strenuous activities, Contiki might be a better choice but there are always different tour options in G Adventures as well.

Contiki might be slightly cheaper and budget-friendly than G Adventures but keep in mind that different itineraries may vary in cost and you might also spend more during your trip on optional activities.

What’s up with the G adventures reviews?

As with every tour company, your experiences will vary from the people and guides that you’re traveling with. However, there seem to be a few G Adventures complaints that talk about the same points. We’ll summarize some G Adventures reviews here for you so that you can make a more informed decision on picking the right tour company for you.

One of the big complaints that many users experienced is the level of knowledge the “CEOs” have during their trip. Some “CEOs” will provide an excellent guide that goes above and beyond what you’d expect on a group tour, while others might not. With group tours, it’s very difficult to know who you’re going to get, but the majority of the reviews on the quality of their guides are quite positive.

Some G adventure reviews have mentioned that their dietary restrictions were not honored during the trip. This might be due to the lack of communication between the service and their caterers. If you have dietary restrictions, make sure to check up ahead of the trip to make sure that everything’s good!

Another complaint that travelers had with G Adventures was with the amenities that come with the accommodations. Some of the travelers found that there was no air conditioning, bedding, hot water, etc during their stay despite the trip description saying that they’re provided. A good rule of thumb is to always check up with the trip operator ahead of time to reconfirm and make sure all the amenities are there!

Is G Adventures worth it?

With over 30 years of experience, we think G Adventures is a great tour company that knows what’s good for its clientele.

It takes the hassle of organizing everything by yourself and is a safer way to travel. There are downsides, of course, as with every other tour company. They also don’t offer tours for every country in the world, so make sure you check that. The choice also depends on your personal preference, and you can reach out to their support team and clarify your doubts.

If you want more options for other reliable and established tour guide companies, read our reviews on Contiki, Busabout , and EF Ultimate Break .

Our Rating: 4.6/5

  • Adventure-based travel
  • Local, real, and sustainable experiences
  • Affordable tours
  • Many positive experiences by past travelers
  • Lacking amenities (sometimes)
  • Varying customer service
  • Frustrating cancellation policy
  • Poor accommodation (sometimes)

The 10 most beautiful places to visit in Paris

Paris has long been renowned as one of the world’s prettiest cities, with grand palaces, perfectly pruned gardens, haute couture and lip-smacking cuisine.

The city streets are peppered with architecture from across the history books, Instagrammable cafés that look like they were plucked straight out of a storybook and acclaimed galleries housing some of the world’s best art.

Whether you’ve been inspired by the 2024 Olympic Games that took place in the French capital this summer or by the new season of Emily in Paris , now is the perfect time to start planning your visit to the City of Love.

Here are some of the must-see attractions that will make your visit to Paris an unforgettable one.

Most beautiful places to visit in Paris

The Basilica of Sacré-Cœur is well known for its unforgettable interiors and exteriors, possibly beaten only by the Eiffel Tower for its spectacular dominance of the Parisian cityscape. The basilica hosts the largest mosaic in France across its ceiling, measuring around 480 metres squared, and depicts Jesus Christ with open arms, surrounded by saints, angels and religious symbols all finished in a golden outline. While the Sacré-Cœur’s interiors offers impressive iconography, its iconic dome enjoys a 360-degree panoramic view of Paris . Visitors must remain silent as the basilica is a holy place, but the grand landmark is still open and free to enter (with a small fee to enter the dome). Magnificently perched on top of the Butte Montmartre, the basilica’s Roman-Byzantine architecture and radiant white finish, is not to be overlooked.

Entry to the dome costs €8 for adults and €5 for children aged up to 15 years old

The district of Montmartre was once a haven for a number of acclaimed and influential artists such as Vincent van Gogh , Henri Matisse and Edgar Degas. Still flourishing in the artistic ambience of the past, Montmartre has not lost its village-like charm, lined with artisan bakeries, cosy bistros, eclectic galleries and bookshops. The district’s cobbled streets guide you past colourful houses to restaurant terraces serving up food from all over the globe; this picturesque location feels more like you’re strolling through the countryside in the south of France, rather than one of Europe’s busiest cities. Montmartre has also featured as the backdrop for some of the most famous films on the big screen, including Amélie, Moulin Rouge and French Cancan.

Jardin du Luxembourg

Inspired by Florence’s historical Boboli Gardens, the Luxembourg Gardens is considered one of the most attractive green spaces in Europe. Spanning 25 hectares, with over 3,000 trees of different species and flower beds taking over 5,000 square metres of the gardens, this nature-filled getaway in the middle of Paris has plenty of space to relax away from the cacophony of the city. Among the foliage and vegetation also stands around 106 statues and monuments, including the breathtaking Médici Fountain. Wind around the geometric forest towards Paris’ own Panthéon just outside of the gardens to gaze upon its innovative architecture.

Petit Palais

The Petit Palais has hosted the Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris for over 100 years. Step inside this architectural marvel to discover a grand collection of paintings, sculptures and other objects dating from antiquity to 1914. Home to paintings, sculptures, furniture and objets d'art, the museum features works by some of France’s most famous painters, including Monet , Cézanne and Delacroix, plus Rembrandt’s famed Self-portrait in Oriental Attire . Designed for the Universal Exhibition in 1900, the grand Petit Palais is based on a trapezium shape with four wings, surrounded by a semi-circular garden. Like its sister venue, the Grand Palais which is situated opposite, both buildings offer beauty through a blend of traditional and modern architecture . After wandering through the galleries, head over the road to the Champs-Élysées garden to take a stroll through the magnificent towering trees.

Permanent exhibitions are free but temporary exhibitions cost to enter

Explore the streets

One of the joys of a city like Paris is simply taking in the smells and sights of the city by exploring its streets. The city is home to some very famous and iconic streets, complete with elegant architecture and fashionable storefront decorations.

Take a stroll down Rue Saint-Dominique for a picture-perfect view of the Eiffel Tower and visit some high-end boutiques, meander down the infamous Avenue des Champs-Élysées for stunning views of the Arc de Triomphe, or saunter up Rue Saint-Rustique, the oldest street in Montmarte, to transport yourself back in time for a vintage look at the city. The old street of Rue Chanoinesse will deliver some of the prettiest floral-decorated cafe and shop fronts, while Boulevard Saint-Germain shows off historical monuments and coffee stops famous for its past intellectual patrons such as Simone de Beauvoir . One of the most photographed streets in Paris is Rue Crémieux, lined with uniform pastel-coloured shuttered houses decorated with various potted plants – don’t leave without visiting this peaceful oasis in the heart of the city.

Trocadéro/Eiffel Tower

Yes, it is a cliché, but it is hard to ignore one of the most iconic structures in the world, let alone just in Paris. The Eiffel Tower can be spotted from many places around the city, but one of the best views of the famous landmark is from Trocadéro, which lies directly opposite the tower, just across the Seine. Starting near the “moderne” style Palais de Chaillot, take in the tremendous site of the Eiffel Tower before wandering through Trocadéro’s extravagant gardens that also encompass museums, sculptures and gardens. After absorbing all 1083 feet of this historical monument, cross over to the tower itself if you are seeking some panoramic Parisian views. Despite not being able to see much of the tower itself while you are actually on it, going up the stairs or taking the lift to various floors will show off the Paris landscape right from the heart of the city.

Tickets to go up the Eiffel Tower start at €14.20 for adults, and €3.60 for children aged up to 11

Palais Garnier

Paris is packed with architectural gems, but one that has earned its place as a behemouth of a building is the Palais Garnier. Named after the French architect Charles Garnier, who designed and built it at the behest of Emperor Napoleon III, the construction is characterised by elegant structures, majestic decor and golden opulence. Designed in the Baroque and Renaissance styles, the palace was the primary theatre of the Paris Opera and frequented by the most elite members of Paris society after its completion in 1875. It became an important symbol of Paris, in line with the Notre Dame or Sacré-Cœur, partly due to being used as inspiration for The Phantom of the Opera. Inside, discover a world of affluence and abundance, from busts of opera legends to delicately painted ceiling frescos.

Self-guided tours start from €10; guided tours from €16.50

Parc Monceau

This 17th-century public park offers a green and quiet sanctuary in the city. While not in the same structured style as a traditional French garden, Parc Monceau offers a more relaxed experience, with curved walkways and statues from various origins dotted amongst the foliage. Some of the park’s most notable architectural features include a Roman colonnade and a small bridge modelled on the Rialto Bridge in Venice . Tucked away near private mansions, haute couture house offices and luxury boutiques, this park delivers a real sense of elegance and serenity.

Sunset on the Seine

Several postponed swimming events during the Paris Olympics mean the quality of the River Seine is up for some debate, but when the sun sets over the city, this body of water serves as a sparkling backdrop. Stroll along the waterfront to enjoy classic Parisian architecture, past the Les Invalides, where Napoleon’s tomb lies, and the Palais de Tokyo as you walk from Quai Saint Bernard all the way to L’île aux Cygnes on this walking route , which takes just over 90 minutes. If your feet are weary from pounding pavements all day, opt for a sightseeing cruise along this famous stretch of water.

Viewing platforms

While the Sacré-Coeur and the Eiffel Tower serve up some monumental views of the Parisian skyline, there are several other excellent opportunities to experience how remarkable Paris is from up high. Take a trip to the Montparnasse Observatory or the building’s rooftop deck to spot the city’s landmarks from a birdseye view. A self-guided tour ticket around the iconic Arc de Triomphe’s interior rooms also grants you access to an exceptional viewing platform. Also mentionable is the Centre Pompidou, which houses the Musée National d’Art Moderne. Here, access a glass structure that grants super views of the 4th arrondissement.

Tickets for Montparnasse start at €21, the Arc de Triomphe starts at €16 and the view is free at Centre Pompidou

Where to stay

Hôtel Dame des Arts’ rooftop bar and some of their room’s balconies offer some of the most scenic Parisian vista views, overlooking the city’s Haussmann rooftops and monuments such as the towers of Saint-Sulpice. The hotel also has a secret outdoor courtyard garden for guests to discover, giving guests a slice of tranquility away from the city.

Mets' manager of team travel faces ultimate challenge -- and passes

Anthony DiComo

Anthony DiComo

MILWAUKEE -- All told, Mets manager of team travel Edgar Suero cycled through more than 300 phone calls and text messages on Wednesday. He didn’t make it through the day on a single phone charge, but that’s typical for -- these days -- the busiest travel secretary in the league.

When Suero learned that Hurricane Helene could impact the Mets’ plans this week in Atlanta, he dialed up his contacts at Delta Air Lines, which runs the Mets’ charter flight, and told them to prepare for an earlier exit from the city. Suero also contacted the team’s hotel in Milwaukee to make sure rooms would be ready as soon as possible.

  • Mets' Wild Card standings

With those pieces in place, when Major League Baseball formally postponed the Mets’ games on Wednesday and Thursday , Suero had all his levers ready to pull. The Mets stayed the night in Atlanta and flew out ahead of Helene’s arrival in the morning, touching down in Milwaukee around 11 a.m. CT. From there, they headed to the ballpark for a full team workout. Their hotel rooms were ready when they got back.

“All I needed to do was get on a plane,” Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said, laughing. “Edgar Suero is the guy who’s been scrambling.”

Realistically, this week presented only a modest challenge for Suero, who’s in charge of booking the Mets’ logistics all season long.

Next week could prove trickier, considering the Mets are scheduled to play in Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon, fly to Atlanta that night in advance of a doubleheader on Monday, then fly out that same day to a potential Wild Card Series site . Suero has hotel blocks on hold in Atlanta, Milwaukee and San Diego, knowing they won’t all get used. He has others prepared for potential National League Division Series dates.

⚾️🔜 pic.twitter.com/T289tDoHD5 — New York Mets (@Mets) September 27, 2024

Friday afternoon, Suero stood around the batting cage, cell phone pressed to his ear as various Mets players took batting practice. He is in his third season as manager of team travel, largely learning the job on the fly after a season alongside the Mets’ former traveling secretary, Brian Small. Before that, Suero had spent 13 years as an executive office coordinator for the Mets.

“He thinks he’s the best in the league,” quipped J.D. Martinez, who enjoys needling Suero in the clubhouse. Martinez grinned. “Nah, he’s good. He’s good.”

Italy Tours in 2024 & 2025

The Colosseum in Rome, Italy

Your own personal Renaissance

Italians love to surround themselves with beauty, and it shows. A more fitting country could not have been designed by Michelangelo himself: from medieval hilltop towns to sun-drenched Mediterranean islands, Italy is sublime. Icons are so numerous it's difficult to choose. Some are entire cities: Venice, Florence, and Rome are works of art in themselves, and Italy has played host to arguably the greatest collection of art, architecture, and artists the world has ever seen. Home to more UNESCO World Heritage sites than any other country, Italy is nothing if not cultured; an education was once considered incomplete until one spent time in Italy. Today, this tradition continues, as visitors from around the world come to surround themselves with beauty and immerse themselves in la dolce vita. Viva Italia!
