THINGS TO DO

Places to visit, scandinavian tour packages from india 2024.

Norway and Sweden, the two kingdoms in the Scandinavian Peninsula, along with the kingdom of Denmark to the south-west are together referred to as Scandinavian countries. The three countries form a subregion in North Europe and though Finland is not part of it, in broader terms it is also sometimes included among the Scandinavian countries. A dream destination for people around the world.

Tourism Friendly.

All the four countries have a strong economy, high standard of lifestyle and highly organised societies. This makes the region very amiable for tourists who find everything in their Scandinavian holidays moving as per plans and schedules.

Clean cities, great Waterfronts.

The region is looked up to for their clean and low pollution cities, charming coasts, enticing waterfronts, cruises on the oceans, glaciers and snowy slopes and most prominently for their skiing activities. The waterfront promenade in Sweden leaves people sell bound and idling for hours together.

Stunning Landscapes.

Scandinavian countries are known for their dramatically beautiful sceneries, their stunning fjords and archipelagos.

Lofoten islands, the archipelago of islands in northern Norway, the Gothenburg archipelago of South Sweden are simply incredible while Finland coasts boast of world’s largest archipelago. The fiords of the Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site north of Bergen in Norway is breath-taking. The tranquil and secluded fiords of Denmark along the Baltic Sea coast have their own charm. Just a train ride from Oslo to Bergen leaves the travellers dumbstruck by the ravishing beauty of the region.

Midnight Sun.

The natural phenomenon of the Midnight sun during the summer season, when the sun never goes below the horizon, fascinates visitors from the rest of the world. They particularly choose summer just to experience it. Though the duration may differ in the northern parts and southern parts of a country, or from one country to another, it occurs throughout the region. In Finland, the entire summer has white nights.

Another natural phenomenon in the region that intrigues the world is the aurora borealis. A natural display of earth’s colourful lights on the sky, it is also known as northern lights or southern lights or polar lights. Each of the countries lay special claim to this wonder being most clearly visible from their country. The consensus is, the further north you go the better the visibility. Tromso and Lofoten in northern Norway and Abisko National Park in Sweden are said to be the best place to view them.

Let the northern light package tour from Flying Squirrel Holidays help you experience this wonderful phenomenon.

Museums and Parks.

There are amazing museums in all the big cities. The history of the infamous Vikings and their exploits is intriguing to many. Tourists flock to museums and castles and relics to make sense of it. There are Viking museums on the ships too.

There are amusement parks with iconic cartoon characters the children just adore.

Camping, trailing, hiking and exploring is well supported by very good infrastructure with huts and wooden trails and even sauna at campsites in some places. The hiking trails of Trolltunga are demanding but rewarded with sites to remember for life. Perhaps nowhere in the world except in Finland is there a concept of ‘Every Man’s Right’ which allows freedom to roam on natural terrain without permission even on private lands.

For the regular tourists, much of the beauty of the region can be savoured in and around the larger cities of Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo and Helsinki; smaller cities and towns of Geilo, Tromso, Narvik, Kiruna and Lulea and by cruises ferrying one town to another. Most of the other places are just a day-trip away.

For varied interests.

Whether you are planning a holiday for your family to scenic beauties of leisurely sea fronts and urban landmarks or you are planning to go on love-trip with your spouse on the beautiful cruise rides and picturesque ski resorts, Scandinavia is the place to be. Whether you are interested in arts, architecture and culture or you are hiking, camping and skiing person, you will love the plethora of awesome choices that you get in the Scandinavian region.

Scandinavia package holidays are ready for you at Flying Squirrel Holidays to take you to all those amazing places.

The Danish Royal family, some of their royal houses that are open to the public and the Danish people’s love and reverence for their kings is the source of amused wonder for many visitors.

The historic castles, old towns, contemporary cities like Copenhagen and partially owned modern wonders like the Oresund Bridge are a major draw to Denmark. The amusement parks of its city and the various harbour cruises leaving its shore add charm to the ambience of its cities.

The Country of a Thousand Lakes, Finland has one lake for every twenty-six persons. Surrounded by the beautiful wilderness of the arctic region, the country is one big chain of beautiful unbelievable sceneries.

The natural terrain is so revered by the people here that they have made free access to natural terrain a right open to everyone, even in privately-held properties. It is a country where you can travel back and forth across the arctic circle in a day trip.

Finland is a big attraction for architecture lovers too. From the classic old wooden churches to contemporary masterstrokes like the Finlandia Hall or Oodi Library, the country has many gems to showcase.

From Arctic adventure to camping, Finland has a variety of options for camping and hiking enthusiasts. Lapland, with its long curvy roads, enchanting marshlands and endless tree-tops with reindeer paying visits on the road, is the hikers' paradise. Camping trails are also well maintained with camping sites mostly located near beaches so campers can go swimming. Also unique are the sauna baths that are attached to most camps.

For the children, there are theme parks and amusement parks like Linnanmaki in Helsinki and Sarkanniemi in Tampere. Moomin-world characters are adored by children visiting the park which actually was the inspiration that led to the creation of Disney World.

Nordic Culture and Heritage

Northern Europe’s Scandinavia has a rich cultural heritage that is firmly anchored in Viking history and folklore. Scandinavia is a cultural gem, offering a multitude of opportunities to explore its diverse cultures, from the complex designs of its buildings to the stories passed down through generations in its literature.

Scandinavia’s Viking heritage, which is preserved in historical sites, museums, and cultural events all over the continent, is one of its most important features. The massive Oseberg ship from the ninth century, a striking example of Viking engineering and craftsmanship, is one of the finest relics from the Viking age and is kept in the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo, Norway.

Additionally, Gamla Uppsala in Sweden provides visitors with a chance to go back in time to the Viking era. A interesting Viking-era church that is supposed to have been in use for more than a thousand years may be seen here, along with Viking burial mounds.

The cultural legacy of the area also includes an integral component of Scandinavian architecture. The landmark Sydney Opera House, designed by Danish architect Jrn Utzon, is a superb illustration of the modernist architecture that characterises Scandinavian design. The region’s rural traditional architecture is especially significant, with its wooden churches and thatched-roof homes providing a window into the Nordic way of life throughout the centuries.

Northern Lights Experience:

The Aurora Borealis, often known as the Northern Lights, is a magnificent natural occurrence that mostly happens in high-latitude areas. Consider traveling to places like Norway, Sweden, and Iceland, which are renowned for producing some of the best Northern Lights displays, if you’re searching for a chance to see this amazing phenomena.

Between October and March, when the evenings are long and dark, is the greatest time to see these lights. To boost your chances of viewing the Northern Lights, though, you should also keep an eye out for solar activity. Intense solar flares can do this.

These locations provide a wide range of winter activities, including dog sledding, snowmobiling, and skiing, in addition to Northern Lights tours. You can partake in these pursuits and produce life-changing experiences while taking in the breathtaking Northern Lights.

Make sure to take a decent pair of boots and dress for the chilly weather if you intend to visit these places. For the most recent information on weather forecasts and Northern Lights sightings, you should also check with nearby tour companies.

Scandinavian Cuisine:

The culinary scene in Scandinavia is rich and diversified, including traditional Nordic meals, maritime specialties, and fusion food. The geology, climate, and history of the area have all had an impact on the cuisine, which emphasizes natural, fresh ingredients.

Visiting Scandinavia’s food markets is one of the greatest ways to sample its flavors. These crowded locations are the ideal places to sample regional specialties and ingredients and to browse for handcrafted goods. The Hötorgshallen in Stockholm, the Mathallen in Oslo, and the Torvehallerne in Copenhagen are some of the best markets.

Visitors have the opportunity to sample traditional Nordic cuisine at nearby eateries, which frequently includes game meats, fish, and seasonal vegetables. A traditional Danish delicacy known as smorrebrod consists of open-faced sandwiches that are frequently topped with meat, cheese, or fish. Meatballs, gravlax, and herring are popular meals in Sweden, whereas lutefisk (dried fish), rakfisk (fermented fish), and reindeer stew are possible menu items in Norway.

There are numerous cutting-edge restaurants that combine traditional Nordic meals with foreign flavors for individuals who want to experience Scandinavian fusion cuisine. Foraged ingredients are used in dishes at Restaurant Noma in Copenhagen, while Frantzén in Stockholm serves a multi-course tasting menu with Nordic and Japanese elements.

For tourists who are interested in learning more about Scandinavian food and culture, culinary tours offer an immersive experience. In Copenhagen, tours of the city’s street food culture are well-liked, while tourists may join a culinary tour of Oslo’s hip Grünerlkka neighborhood. Food excursions in Stockholm frequently include a stop at the ostermalmshallen market and a taste of authentic Swedish pastries.

Scandinavian Design and Shopping:

Modern aesthetics, inventive design, and fine craftsmanship are hallmarks of Scandinavian culture. Arne Jacobsen, Alvar Aalto, and Hans Wegner all created some of the most recognisable designs of the 20th century in this area. Scandinavia is still known for its cutting-edge architecture and is the location of numerous renowned shopping areas, boutiques, and design-related tourist destinations.

Copenhagen is one of the best cities to learn about Scandinavian design. The capital of Denmark is a veritable gold mine of galleries and shops showing the newest in Scandinavian design. Some of the most prominent brands in the world are represented in Strget, the city’s main retail area, including Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Hermès. But it’s also worthwhile looking down the little side alleyways to find hidden treasures. To find hidden jewels like Illums Bolighus, a department store renowned for its cutting-edge design, or Hay House, a three-story shop showcasing contemporary furniture and home goods, it’s also worthwhile investigating the tiny side streets.

Another fantastic location for fans of design is Stockholm. The capital of Sweden has a thriving design scene, with many galleries and boutiques showcasing contemporary Scandinavian design. Gamla Stan, the city’s historic Old Town, is an excellent location to discover the more conventional designs, while Södermalm is a hotspot for up-and-coming designers and independent shops. Visit the Design House Stockholm, which features some of the area’s most recognisable creations.

Helsinki is a must-visit location for everyone interested in Scandinavian design, to sum it up. The capital city of Finland is renowned for its streamlined and minimalist architecture, with many shops and galleries showing contemporary Finnish design. With over 200 design-related stores, showrooms, and other attractions, Helsinki’s Design District is a must-see location.

Places to Visit in Scandinavia

Scandinavian countries include Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. With time, however, they have also come to include Finland and Iceland. Like we mentioned earlier there are countless things to see and do here. For example - Finland is considered to be Santa’s village. That’s just the beginning- Denmark is known for its sustainable living methods, and Sweden is blessed with dramatic views. When it comes to Norway, the country is famous for its beautiful fjords and lakes. Lastly, Iceland is well known as the Land of fire because of the volcanoes and glaciers to be seen here. With so much to explore, it is important to know what to include in your Scandinavia holiday package. So, here is a list of the best places to visit in Scandinavia:-

Denmark Denmark is a land of many charms. Over the years these attractions have become apparent to a global community of travellers. The country of Denmark boasts of glorious beaches, beautiful fairytale-like castles, lush green forests, a temperate climate, and welcoming people. The country is also famous in particular for its ecologically sound practices. Last but not the least, the food here is definitely something that will keep you coming back for more. Key attractions worth visiting in the country include ( and are not limited to ) - attractions in Copenhagen like Tivoli Gardens, new Harbour, etc. If you are looking for something a bit more offbeat then do consider then LEGO House in Billund. The country of Denmark with its several attractions should definitely be considered as an inclusion to your Scandinavia travel packages from India. Norway Norway offers its tourists an astounding mix of cultural and natural wonders. You can visit places that are incredibly diverse ranging from the cosmopolitan city of Oslo to deep fjords. It is well said then that there is no end to choices to choose from for travellers in this fascinating country of the midnight sun and stunning northern lights. An interesting fact about Norway is that it has a museum about every aspect of its rich cultural and social history. It goes without saying that Norway is home to many spectacular sceneries, like - fjords, mountains, and glaciers. Some key places of interest in Norway are - Pulpit Rock, Lofoten Islands, Lillehammer, and so on. With hundreds if not thousands of marvelous sights on offer, Norway should definitely be included in your travel packages for Scandinavia. Sweden Sweden is a land that is fit to be called a traveller’s paradise. This country of rich history and varied landscapes is hard to beat. One can relish the crystal clear air and waters here while gazing at the unspoiled forests, majestic lakes, and so much more. Swedish cuisine only adds to this treat. Lastly, a rich and mind-boggling history with Viking invasions and Royal dynasties means that you’ll never ever get bored of Sweden. There is plenty to see and do here as well. Tourist attractions in Sweden range from luxurious and opulent palaces to quaint towns. Then there are the arctic landscapes with attractions like the famed Ice Hotel. With so much on offer, it goes without saying that a Scandinavian trip package is incomplete without Sweden as an inclusion. Finland Finland, sadly, is a bit of an unknown corner in Europe. This is a shame as its unspoiled natural surroundings with several cultural and historical attractions make it an ideal travel destination. This nordic playground with its lakes, rivers and vast wild areas makes it perfect for both summers and winters. There is plenty to see here, especially in Helsinki. This busy port city is home to several important museums. Additionally, it is also home to works from some of the most famous Finnish architects. We also recommend you check out the smaller cities of Turku and Porvoo in addition to exploring the countryside. As a result, Finland makes for a good addition to your Scandinavia tour packages. Iceland Iceland is also regarded as an island of fire and ice. It is one of the world’s top travel destinations among both thrill-seekers and nature enthusiasts. There is just so much on offer here, from geysers and glaciers to ice fields and fjords. Owing to its geographic location over one of the most seismically active areas, the residents have used this mayhem to better their lives. The surplus energy available here is used to heat residences and businesses in addition to boosting tourism. There is plenty to see and explore here like the Northern lights and Blue Lagoon a lot more. Feedback - Northern lights tour : Dear Team Thanks a lot for a wonderful tour of Scandinavian countries which was specially designed to see the northern lights. We were lucky enough to see them on the first 2 days and few people saw it later too. The pre departure mails, zoom meetings, personal phone calls and messages were very helpful and made us feel at ease from the beginning. I am extremely grateful to Ms Reshma Butala for a detailed description about the tour, Ms Pradnya for visa related queries and the Veena World staff at Pune office for their constant support. Prashant Potdar, the tour manager was very good and looked after us very well. He ensured that everyone felt comfortable in the tour. The local and Indian food at all the places was very delicious. Wishing Veena World all the best for future tours. Best wishes Anita

Feedback : Most wonderful n Memorable tour with Veena world.Good hospitality as always from team Veena world. Our tour manager Mr.Prashant Potdar made this trip very enjoyable n easy with his important tips .we had a wonderful time.Thank you.

Journey to explore the Northern Lights with the Veena World group was the most wonderful experience in my entire life. I was accompanied by my son Siddhant who is just 10 years old and this was his first international experience. During the first day of our visit to Tromsø, we saw a glimpse of Northern Lights and we gathered at a campfire. On the second day while returning from the Reindeer ride, we saw a spectacular show of Aurora Borealis for almost 30 mins, everyone was thrilled and excited. The visit to Rovaniemi was cherry on ice-cream, such an unforgettable moment and life time experience, we experienced almost 3 hours of spectacular show of Northern Lights, visit to Santa Claus Village and Husky ride were the most joyful movements. The tour guide Prashant Potdar was so lovely and enthusiastic – he was giving clearcut instructions both in text and voice at whatsapp group. Helped to take a photo of Northern Lights at extreme cold. The group was full of charming people, just like a family member taking care of my son. The hotel stays and food was awesome, it was well organised and would recommend this to my friend circle. I felt that no matter the conditions, they'd help find the clear skies. Thank you guys so much - appreciate your efforts and good humour! Undoubtedly the best experience ever for me and my dear Siddhant. He enjoyed the snow a lot. Nilesh Parsekar

And, until 1814, Sweden and Norway were really joined under one realm. When people talk about Scandinavia they usually refer to history, traditions, literature, and design. We offer a variety of tours — both independent and guided — that include the must-see attractions as well as lesser-known highlights that are hand-picked by our own Scandinavian travel experts. To ensure a stress-free trip, we handle all the local details for you — accommodations, activities, rental car (for self-drive tours), cruise/train tickets and other services.

Oh, and we can customise your itinerary! If you decide you want to add extra nights at a certain location, for example, your personal Nordic Visitor travel consultant will be happy to make suggestions and modify your itinerary.

What do our customers say?

The reviews speak for themselves. See what Nordic Visitor travellers said about their experience with us.

Relaxing and fun journey

The Scandanavian winter tour package and it's connections made it very easy to see the 4 capital cities and Bergen. There were plenty of suggestions for things to see and do. There was a great mix of cruise and rail segments between cities giving us a chance to see other parts of each country. Staff reserved an extra rail and overnight for us as soon as we asked about it. All in all a very relaxing and fun journey.

Just what we wanted

The plan was just what we wanted and the actual trip delivered just that. Nice balance of scheduled events and free time in the cities visited. Hotel locations were excellent and our tour guide was always available and helpful for additional questions and suggestions.

First class

Communication was first class. Selection of accommodation was perfect. Great hotels in good locations.

Very easy process

We found the whole process very easy. The instructions and information provided was clear and made it easy to find hotels and transport links. The hotels were centrally located, close to transport links but were not noisy. Our personal travel consultant was very helpful and friendly. We liked the recommendations suggested in the daily itinerary.

Thoroughly recommend Nordic Visitor

We would recommend Nordic Visitor to anyone considering an introductory tour of Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo. Basics of logistics where well-stated. It was easy to commute from one capital to the next. Itineraries were clear yet flexible. We thought moving from one country to the next would be a challenge - it was not. Nordic Visitor arranged all that was needed, yet gave us the flexibility to do more or otherwise should we want. Again, we thoroughly recommend Nordic Visitor. We look forward to our next excursion in Scandinavia through Nordic Visitor.

Fantastic tour that included the highlights for each country we visited. I really feel like we have seen the best of the countries with the time we had. The activities were terrific. I felt supported by my tour planner, Irja, as we travelled.

Excellent vacation

We had an excellent vacation through Nordic Visitor. The expertise of our tour guide and small group size of 16 enhanced our experience. We had a good blend of free time and tour related programs. We did arrive 2 days early to Stockholm and stayed an additional 2 days in Bergen. We found this time beneficial to explore the areas more.

A pleasure to work with

Working with Nordic Visitor, and specifcally Irja, was a pleasure. She did an excellent job presenting the information. It was nice to see her enthusiasm as she discussed activites the staff liked in each city. She responded to our questions promptly and in detail. The paperwork, itinerary, written day-by-day descriptions, vouchers, and tour info was all very well-thought-out and presented.

I would definitely recommend Nordic Visitor!

I was so happy during this entire trip. I wanted to travel to Norway before but I didn't understand how Norway in a Nutshell worked so the itinerary prepared by Irja was just perfect. She was always available to answer all my questions and the hotels and activities planned were perfect and easy for me as a solo traveller. I just had to enjoy each city. I would definitely recommend Nordic Visitor!

Very well planned

The tour was great and very well planned. We had enough time to explore the cities and the Swedish countryside. It was fun to drive and take the ferries as well.

The best vacation we've ever had!

This was the best vacation we've ever had and I'm planning a Norway trip for August 2024 as we speak. Thanks for a phenomenal time!

An amazing trip

We had an amazing trip in Swedish Lapland and the Scandinavian cities. Nordic Visitor's assistance helped us to have scheduled activities, but also free time to pick and choose what we wanted to do. It was a great balance of planning, with the inclusion of spontaneity!

Getting to Scandinavia

Many of Nordic Visitor’s tours of Scandinavia begin in Stockholm, Sweden’s capital and largest city. Stockholm Arlanda Airport is the main gateway for international air travel in Sweden and is served by dozens of airlines. Furthermore, it serves as a major hub for SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) and Norwegian Air.

Here are examples of other airlines that fly to Stockholm Arlanda: United Airlines, British Airways, Air France, EasyJet, Lufthansa, KLM, Icelandair, Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways

We recommend checking airline websites directly for flight availability and timetables. You can also use an airfare search engine, such as Skyscanner, Dohop or Kayak, for example.

Flights are not included in Nordic Visitor packages, but all of our itineraries can be customised with extra nights in Stockholm, or another arrival city in Scandinavia, if you’d like to rest up after your air journey.

Different ways you can experience Scandinavia

We have tours for all varieties of travel styles and interests. See our options for exploring Scandinavia below.

Guided Small Groups

Independent cruise, independent train, scandinavian triangle, what to see on a 12-day tour of scandinavia.

Scandinavia is a region of Northern Europe covering Sweden , Denmark and Norway . Visiting all three countries in one trip makes perfect sense as they are well-connected via modern motorways, railways and waterways.

A classic, much-loved route in this part of Europe is a city-hopping trip around the Scandinavian Triangle , the capitals of Sweden, Denmark and Norway. With 12 days in Scandinavia, you could really get to know Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo by spending 4 days in each city.

Additionally, a 12-day tour of Scandinavia gives you plenty of time to venture beyond the Scandinavian Triangle too. You might like to visit other Nordic and Northern European destinations such as Helsinki and Tallinn, the capitals of Finland and Estonia respectively.

Another option is to see more of Norway, travelling from Oslo to Bergen to see the famous fjords. Or you could drive through southern Sweden and the trendy city of Gothenburg.

Here’s one of our suggestions for a 12-day Scandinavia itinerary:

Day 1 - Arrive in Helsinki, Finland Fly into Helsinki Airport and head to your hotel in the city centre. Try tasty Finnish cuisine at a local restaurant, and see some of the capital’s top sights such as Senate Square, Uspenski Cathedral, and the Old Market Hall.

Day 2 - Baltic cruise to Sweden Enjoy more downtime in Helsinki to visit attractions like Sibelius Park, Finlandia Hall, the Finnish National Opera House, and Parliament House. Then, head to the port and embark on your Baltic cruise to Stockholm, an overnight journey with restaurants, shops and cafés on board to keep you entertained.

Day 3 - Arrive in Stockholm, Sweden In the morning, enjoy breakfast while watching the scenery all around you as the vessel navigates through the Stockholm Archipelago, made up of around 30,000 islands. After your cruise docks, spend some time walking through Gamla Stan (The Old Town), and enjoy a fika (a Swedish coffee break) with a nice pastry at one of the local cafés in this medieval neighbourhood.

Day 4 - The highlights of Stockholm Spend a full day in the Swedish capital, discovering the city’s attractions and districts. You could join a walking tour to see the best of Stockholm in a day, taking you to must-see spots like City Hall, Royal Palace and the trendy Södermalm quarter.

Or, a ferry ride will whisk you off to the island of Djurgården, home to the Vasa Museum and Skansen, the world’s oldest open-air museum. Meanwhile a day trip to the Stockholm Archipelago is a great option in the summer.

Day 5 - Fly to Copenhagen, Denmark Head to Stockholm Airport after breakfast and board the plane to Copenhagen. Once in Denmark’s capital, take a walk down the city’s popular Strøget street for a bite to eat, or go check out the fun and games at the old fashioned Tivoli Gardens amusement park.

Day 6 - Discover Copenhagen Soak up the charms of Copenhagen today, either on your own or as part of a guided tour. You might want to visit Rosenborg Castle, the Botanical Garden and Torvehallerne food market. We also recommend hopping on a boat tour to see Christiansborg Palace, the Royal Danish Opera House and the colourful Christianshavn Canal from the water.

  • Find out why Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo are 3 of the top Scandinavian cities to visit

Day 7 - Overnight cruise to Oslo, Norway Ahead of your journey to Oslo, spend the day enjoying more of Copenhagen. Why not make like the bicycle-happy Danes and rent a bike?

You could check out the exquisite Amalienborg Palace, as well as the colourful Nyhavn harbour and the Little Mermaid statue. Later, head to the port for your cruise to Oslo.

Day 8 - Explore Norway’s capital city After your ship arrives early in the morning, the whole day is yours to roam Oslo. Take a walk to the bustling Aker Brygge waterfront area and visit the Akershus Fortress. Or, head to the Bygdøy peninsula to explore historic museums.

If you love art, make sure to take a walk through the delightful Vigeland Sculpture Park. Don’t miss a visit to Oslo City Hall if you want to see where the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony is held.

Day 9 - Scenic train journey to Flåm This morning, go to Oslo Central Station to begin your Norway in a Nutshell® experience – one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world. Look out the window to see picturesque landscapes and quaint villages like Gol and Geilo.

Change at Myrdal to board the Flåm Railway for one of the top highlights of the entire trip: a 900-metre (half-mile) descent to the picturesque village of Flåm, where you’ll stay for the night.

Day 10 - Norwegian fjord cruise Prepare to witness breathtaking Norwegian scenery today, as you hop on a cruise that takes you through beautiful fjords. You’ll be able to admire the glittering waters, cascading falls and forested mountains of Sognefjord, passing through Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord.

Afterwards, it’s an exciting coach and train ride to Bergen.

Day 11 - Discover Bergen Known as the gateway to the fjords , Bergen is Norway’s charming second city with plenty of its own attractions to uncover. You can visit the medieval houses of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bryggen, and take the funicular up Mount Fløyen for a panoramic view of the city and fjords.

There are also plenty of museums, shops and restaurants to check out on your last full day in Scandinavia.

Day 12 - Depart from Bergen, Norway Fly back home from Bergen-Flesland Airport, having enjoyed 12 days discovering the many delights of Scandinavia.

What other ideas are there for a 12-day Scandinavia itinerary?

There are many other ways you could experience Scandinavia in 12 days. One alternative is to detour to Tallinn for 1 or 2 days after visiting Helsinki.

The Estonian capital is just 2 hours by ferry from Finland. Tallinn is awash with medieval architecture, such as the impressive Toompea Castle, the current seat of the Estonian Parliament.

Good to know : Most of our itineraries aren't set in stone, and there are many possibilities for customised routes! We can modify your tour if you'd prefer to arrive in a different city, spend more free time in one destination than another, or add other towns to your trip.

Just ask your Nordic Visitor travel consultant for advice.

How about an 12-day Scandinavia road trip?

On a self-drive tour in Scandinavia , you’ll have the freedom to pull the car over at any attractions that catch your interest.

The best part? You won’t have to worry about where you’re going or sleeping, because your Nordic Visitor travel consultant has already sorted those local arrangements for you. You’ll also have access to our 24/7 emergency helpline should you need to call us at any point.

Your 12-day Scandinavia road trip could encompass a convenient circular route, starting and ending in Stockholm, Sweden. After enjoying the first day of your trip in Stockholm, you would drive south to Copenhagen, Denmark. Break up the journey by stopping off at the charming Swedish towns of Kalmar and Ystad.

After exploring Copenhagen, you could drive up the Swedish west coast to Gothenburg. On the way, it’s well worth making a pitstop at Helsingborg to wander around the picturesque town and take in Kronborg Castle.

Gothenburg itself is a fantastic place to discover. Sweden’s “second city” is known for flower-laden streets, the Gothenburg Museum of Art, and plenty of places to enjoy a good fika.

From Gothenburg, drive north to Oslo, Norway, then spend 2 nights in this capital city.

The final part of your journey would then involve driving east from Oslo back to Stockholm, stopping at lovely Örebro for a night en route. This would allow you to soak up the beautiful Swedish countryside, rural villages, and grand castles and manor houses in this corner of Scandinavia.

  • Day 1 – Arrive at Stockholm Airport.
  • Day 2 – Pick up rental car and drive through southern Sweden. Overnight in Kalmar area of Sweden.
  • Day 3 – Overnight in Ystad area of Sweden.
  • Day 4 – Overnight in Copenhagen, Denmark.
  • Day 5 – Overnight in Copenhagen, Denmark.
  • Day 6 – Overnight in Gothenburg.
  • Day 7 – Overnight in Gothenburg.
  • Day 8 – Overnight in Oslo.
  • Day 9 – Overnight in Oslo.
  • Day 10 – Drive back towards Stockholm. Overnight in Örebro area of Sweden.
  • Day 11 – Drop off rental car and spend the night in Stockholm.
  • Day 12 – Depart from Stockholm Airport.

If you want your Scandinavia road trip to include Helsinki, extend your visit a little longer and spend 14 days driving and cruising around this region of Northern Europe.

All of Nordic Visitor’s Scandinavia self-drive tour packages can be tailored by our local experts with extra nights at select locations or modified driving routes. If you have any particular attractions in mind, just contact us to ask.
