Disney Treasure, Disney Cruise Line’s latest ship, sets sail December 2024

The high seas are about to become even more magical as Disney Cruise Line debuts its latest ship, the Disney Treasure.

“The Disney Treasure is part of an unprecedented expansion of Disney Cruise Line,” Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks Experience and Products, said. “We started with the Disney Wish last year, and the Disney Treasure will be the second of four new ships that we’re launching through 2025.”

The ship—which Disney Cruise Line revealed more information about on Tuesday—will set sail December 2024 with all the unique spaces, family entertainment, and world-class dining that Disney Cruise Line is known for. Not to mention, the ship’s theme of adventure will inspire the venues and experiences on board, including all-new stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and Disney Parks tales.

“Our newest ship will immerse guests in brand new experiences that are inspired by beloved Disney theme parks and attractions,” Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Cruise Line, said.

Some of the adventures in store for guests include Plaza de Coco , a colorful entertainment restaurant themed to the Disney and Pixar film Coco that will feature live music and entertainment from the film’s characters and the flavors of Mexico. Worlds of Marvel will be a dining experience that includes everyone’s favorite web-slinger, Spider-Man. Then there’s 1923 , a family restaurant that gives guests a taste of old Hollywood and integrates them in the history of The Walt Disney Company.

There will also be more adult-orientated bars such as the Jungle Cruise -inspired Skipper Society that will offer themed cocktails, light snacks, and décor that evokes the witty Jungle Cruise skippers, as well as the Periscope Pub , which will take guests on an adventure 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (or at least it’ll seem that way). Other adult favorite dining such as The Rose , Palo Steakhouse and Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement will offer amazing views and gourmet meals.

Then there’s the beloved entertainment on the Disney Treasure.

The Walt Disney Theatre will hold three Broadway-style stage productions including Disney Cruise Line favorites Beauty and the Beast and Seas the Adventure – and an all-new third show that will be announced soon. On the upper decks, Pirate’s Rockin’ Parlay Party will have music, fireworks, and some of the most partying pirates on the seven seas.

In terms of thrills, there’s AquaMouse: Curse of the Golden Egg . Disney Cruise Line’s own attraction at sea will plunge guests into the world of Mickey Mouse and his animated shorts, so not only will there be a fun storyline to follow, but also 760 feet of winding tubes that will offer breathtaking views of the ocean and the Disney Treasure itself.

Disney cruise stuck at sea while Hurricane Helene ripped through the Cayman Islands

Two Disney cruises have made last-minute plans to their itineraries after storm activity from Hurricane Helene and civil unrest forced the ocean liners to remain at sea.

Disney’s Fantasy cruise ship spent extra time out at sea after being forced to skip a stop at Grand Cayman while Helene, at that stage a tropical storm, dumped 4–8 inches of rain, with isolated totals of 12 inches, on the region.

The Port Authority of the Cayman Islands announced on Tuesday that they would be closed due to “the inclement weather caused by Potential Tropical Cyclone 92”, the same day that Fantasy was supposed to dock there.

Helene became a tropical storm in the western Caribbean Sea on 24 September, causing major flooding in the Cayman Islands as heavy rain and huge waves ripped through.

Fantasy left the Mexican port of Cozumel on Monday, but instead of sailing towards Grand Cayman as it was scheduled to do, the cruise spent an extra day at sea, giving the Caymans a wide birth as the storm activity intensified, ship tracker CruiseMapper shows.

The 4,000-passenger ship instead went straight to its next destination, arriving in Falmouth in Jamaica on Wednesday, before sailing off to its penultimate port at Disney Castaway Cay, the company’s private Bahamas island, before it is due to arrive at its final destination at Port Canaveral in Florida on Saturday.

However, the Sunshine State is currently bracing for the same storm activity, which threatens to become the strongest storm to hit the US in over a year as it is expected to strengthen to a dangerously strong Category 4 storm before it is due to make landfall on 26 September.

Now a Category 1 hurricane, Helene is currently moving towards Florida with 90mph winds as of this morning, with sustained winds potentially building up to 135mph.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency on Tuesday, and several areas remain under hurricane warnings, with the state’s Big Bend due to see the worst of the storm surge, with up to 20 feet possible this week.

Fantasy was not the only Disney cruise ship that had a change of plan to their cruise itinerary, as the 2,700-passenger Disney Wonder will also be stuck out at sea for an extra day, but instead of stormy weather, it is unrest that caused the last-minute rearrangement.

The ship is due to embark on a journey around the Pacific Ocean, departing from Honolulu, Hawaii, on 3 October, stopping at Samoa and Fiji before arriving in Sydney , Australia , on 19 October.

Yet, a short stop at Noumea, in the French territory islands of New Caledonia , on 15 October will be replaced with a day at sea, according to The Street.

The archipelago of around 300,000 citizens has experienced four months of unrest , with US government has warned visitors to “reconsider travel” to New Caledonia at this time, with the UK government advising against all but essential travel to the islands.

The Independent has contacted Disney Cruise Line for comment.

Port Canaveral Temporarily Closed, Disney Wish Schedule Adjusted Due to Hurricane Helene

D ue to Hurricane Helene, Port Canaveral has temporarily closed and Disney Wish will now arrive in port later than initially scheduled.

Port Canaveral Closed

Earlier today, Port Canaveral announced via X that the port “is closed and has ceased all waterside and vessel shoreside Port operations until further notice.”

Due to this closure, Disney Cruise Line made the following announcement via their website:

As of September 26, at 10:30 AM we continue to make necessary operational adjustments following Hurricane Helene. Disney Wish is arriving to Port Canaveral on Friday, September 27, 2024, later than originally scheduled. We ask that Disney Wish Guests sailing on Friday, September 27, postpone their arrival to the terminal by five (5) hours after their selected port arrival time, but no later than 7:00 PM. Guests will not be able to access the cruise terminal or parking facility in Port Canaveral until four (4) hours after their selected port arrival time.

There is no estimate on when Port Canaveral will reopen, so there is a chance that Disney Wish itineraries will be adjusted even more on Friday and potentially beyond. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates when more information becomes available.

Disney Cruise Line ships, Walt Disney World, and Universal Orlando Resort have seen major operational adjustments due to Hurricane Helene. Disney Fantasy skipped a stop in Grand Cayman , select Walt Disney World tours were canceled and then some were uncanceled , and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Halloween Horror Nights 33 were canceled for September 26. Both Universal Orlando Resort and Walt Disney World are under a tornado watch until at least 8 p.m. EDT on Thursday, September 26.

Cruise Lines Make Further Itinerary Changes Due to Helene

Cruise lines are adjusting itineraries due to the current path of Helene, which is impacting the Gulf of Mexico.

According to the Weather Channel, the storm is expected to reach major hurricane intensity ahead of landfall late Thursday in Florida.

Carnival Cruise Line changed itineraries for five ships, including the Carnival Paradise and the Carnival Valor, which canceled visits to Cozumel on Tuesday.

The Carnival Breeze also canceled a visit to Cozumel on Wednesday, while the Carnival Breeze had to cancel visits to Grand Cayman and Cozumel.

With Jacksonville and Tampa expected to be impacted by Helene’s landfall, the upcoming cruises of the Carnival Elation and the Carnival Paradise may be adjusted.

Royal Caribbean International is changing the itineraries of at least five ships, such as the Wonder of the Seas. Instead of sailing to the Western Caribbean this week, the vessel is offering an alternative itinerary in the Eastern Caribbean.

The Serenade of the Seas is also being rerouted from the Western Caribbean. Sailing from Tampa, the ship is now offering a cruise to the Bahamas.

Similar changes were also made to the itineraries of the Mariner of the Seas, the Grandeur of the Seas, and the Independence of the Seas, which canceled planned ports of call in the Western Caribbean.

Margaritaville at Sea’s Islander canceled a visit to Key West on Wednesday and may also have its return to Tampa, which is scheduled for Sept. 29, impacted.

Sailing from Port Canaveral, the MSC Seashore is set to return to Port Canaveral later than initially scheduled due to Helene.

According to a statement shared with guests onboard, the MSC Cruises vessel is only expected to return to its homeport one day later, on Sept. 27.

Offering a seven-night cruise from Port Canaveral, Disney Cruise Line’s Fantasy also reportedly canceled a visit to Grand Cayman on Tuesday.
