Snoop Dogg has announced the rescheduled 2023 dates for his ‘I Wanna Thank Me’ UK and Ireland tour. The hip-hop icon will kick off the arena jaunt at Belfast’s SSE Arena on March 14, followed by dates in Manchester, Glasgow, London, Dublin, Leeds, and Birmingham.

Snoop will be joined by his peers and collaborators Warren G, Tha Dogg Pound, Obie Trice and D12. Irish rap duo Versatile are also hitting the road with the icons of the West Coast scene.

Meanwhile, Snoop and Dr. Dre have collaborated on a new album called “Missionary.” The hip-hop idols have teamed up on their first new music in three decades.

He spilled in October: “Me and Dr. Dre have been working on an album for the past two months.”

Asked about the sex position moniker, he replied: “The first album was ‘Doggystyle’…”

The album title confirmation comes after Eminem shared a snap in the studio with the pair in September and captioned it: “Just a few bros…hangin out.”

Snoop and Dre reunited earlier this year for an epic performance at the Super Bowl halftime show – along with Eminem , Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar . And following whispers that the pair were in the studio, Snoop told Entertainment Tonight : “We’re cooking up a little something. I don’t wanna talk about it too much, but we’re back together again.

“It’s been 30 years since we worked on a record, and we’re doin’ something, we’re workin’ on something.”

Snoop shot to fame in 1992 when he featured on Dre’s debut solo single, “Deep Cover” and his solo LP The Chronic .

Earlier this year, Snoop bought Death Row Records, the label that launched his career. The rapper – whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr – acquired the company from MNRK Music Group for an undisclosed sum.

The 51-year-old megastar said in February: “I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value. “It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members. This is an extremely meaningful moment for me.”

Snoop Dogg’s UK and Ireland 2023 dates are:

March 14 – Belfast, SSE Arena March 15 – Manchester, AO Arena March 16 – Glasgow, SEC Hydro March 21 – London, O2 Arena March 26 – Dublin, 3Arena March 27 – Leeds, First Direct Arena.

Snoop Dogg announces rescheduled tour with Manchester 2023 date

The West Coast rapper is returning to the UK in March 2023 with support from Warren G, D-12, Xzibit and more

  • 10:59, 21 DEC 2022

The rap icon will be appearing at the Manchester AO Arena on Wednesday, March 15, 2023

American rapper and West Coast legend, Snoop Dogg will be making his presence felt in the UK once again as he announces a seven-date tour for March 2023, as part of his rescheduled UK and Ireland tour.

The long-time king of rap royalty was forced to cancel previous UK dates for 2022 due to "unforeseen scheduling conflicts, including family obligations and upcoming tv and film projects."

His newly announced tour dates form part of the rescheduled dates which will see Snoop and support acts including Warren G, D-12, Versatile, The Dogg Pound, Obie Trice, and Xzibit crew play to over 20,000 fans at that Manchester AO Arena on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

The rapper also collaborated with DJ Drama on the album Gangsta Grillz: I Still Got It' as well as releasing 'Snoop Dog Presents Death Row Summer 2022', two 'NFT Drop' albums and his latest LP, 'BODR'.

As one of the best-known figures from the gangsta rap era of the 1990s, Snoop and his music have long been considered the epitome of West Coast hip-hop culture.

With many fans still loyal to him since his early days and a new generation of hip-hop devotees keen to hear more, tickets are likely to sell out quickly for his only dates in the UK for 2023.

Daisy Jackson

Snoop Dogg has announced a massive gig at the AO Arena in Manchester in 2023 as he finally reconfirms tour dates.

The legendary rapper was meant to perform here in 2020 but had to move it due to the pandemic, and then pushed his show back again earlier this year.

But now his UK and Ireland tour is all set for next spring, with some huge names coming on tour with him – including Xzibit as a special guest for England and Scotland.

Also joining the tour will be West Coast hip hop royalty Warren G, Tha Dogg Pound, Obie Trice and D12, plus Irish rap duo Versatile.

With more than 25 years under his belt in his rap career, Snoop Dogg (previously known as Snoop Doggy Dogg and, briefly, Snoop Lion) will be performing from his massive collection of 19 solo studio albums and five collaborative albums at the AO Arena .

One of the biggest, if not the biggest, popstars in the world right now will be releasing a brand-new album this Friday, and there’s a dedicated listening party happening in Manchester especially for the occasion.

Yes, we’re of course talking about Taylor Swift .

In case you aren’t a Swiftie, or you just generally weren’t aware, Taylor Swift announced back in early February that she would be unleashing her eleventh studio album , titled The Tortured Poets Department , on the world on 19 April.

Just like anything the 34-year-old singer-songwriter does, the surprise announcement of the new album – which is a follow-up to her 2022 critically-acclaimed and GRAMMY award-winning album, Midnights – pretty much broke the internet when it happened, and her dedicated fans have been counting down the days ever since.

Now, after months of eagerly waiting, the big day is finally happening this Friday, and in a bid to properly mark what a massive day it will be, one popular Manchester venue has decided to host a dedicated listening party , so that Swifties can unite under one roof and celebrate the special occasion together.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift)

Fairfield Social Club (FSC) which has recently opened its doors in the heart of Manchester city centre , is inviting fans to “gather with your closest Swifties” and head on down to its Green Quarter venue this Friday for a night that’s “dedicated to Tay Tay and her legacy”.

Not only will you get to hear The Tortured Poets Department in full from start to finish surrounded by dozens of fellow fans, but there’ll also be a bunch of other Swift-themed activities too.

snoop dogg tour uk line up

These include a Taylor Swift pub quiz with questions to all about her life and groundbreaking career to test your knowledge, friendship bracelet-making sessions, and just the chance to share the love and swap stories with other Swifties.

If all of that didn’t sound brilliant enough as it is, there’s also set to be a selection of themed cocktails to sip whilst you spend time ruminating on what Taylor meant in the lyrics of her songs only released a few hours prior.

Oh, and the best bit? FSC promises there “won’t be a Scooter Braun in sight” on the night.

  • You can now take a university course on Taylor Swift
  • Eurovision 2024 final to be screened live in cinemas across Greater Manchester
  • Taylor Swift and The 1975’s Matty Healy are reportedly ‘no longer romantically involved’

The Tortured Poets Department Listening Party is taking over Fairfield Social Club this Friday 19 April from 7pm right through until 10pm – with tickets now on sale setting you back just £6 each, and already selling fast.

Grab tickets to the party here .

Smash-hit musical Kinky Boots is heading out on a tour of the UK next year, and the talented cast will be stopping off here in Manchester.

The Broadway and West End phenomenon, which is based on a true story and is an adaptation of a 2005 film of the same name, has become known and loved by musical theatre fans all across the globe since its stage debut back in 2012, and has scooped up several Tonys, Olivier Awards, and GRAMMYs along the way.

And now, it’s set for a revival starring Strictly Come Dancing ‘s Johannes Radebe, and the production will be touring the UK and Ireland from January 2025.

Kinky Boots The Musical features a score by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein, and this new production will be directed by Artistic Director, Nikolai Foster – who has famously helmed productions of The Wizard of Oz and Billy Elliot , to name a few – as well as starring the fan-favourite Strictly pro as Lola, alongside and rising star Dan Partridge as Charlie Price.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the Kinky Boots story, here’s brief rundown.

After inheriting his family’s failing shoe factory and with a relationship on the rocks, life is proving to be very challenging for Charlie Price, but that is until he meets Lola – a drag queen whose “sparkle and unsteady heels” might just hold the answer to saving the struggling business.

The 2025 revival production is already being billed as “guaranteed to raise you up” and “celebrate everybody’s individuality” when it arrives here in Manchester next February.

“I’m so excited that audiences will get to see it again, in a new production, as it’s like a happy pill, and we could all use some of that right now, so I can’t think of a better time or place to relaunch this special show in its place of origin.”

Calvin Broadus was born on October 20th 1971, and started rapping when he was eleven years old. Ten years after that he took the stage name Snoop Doggy Dogg to begin recording, and in doing so, changed the face of Hip-Hop forever.

There are more than a few artists around that it’s basically impossible to say anything new about. They have been so scrutinised, so celebrated and so criticised that most of what one can say about them has already been said before. This is very much the case with Snoop Dogg, one of the cast iron legends of Hip-Hop and one of the key influences that make it what it is today, both as a cultural phenomenon, and as (arguably) the dominant force of pop music in the world.

After his rapping caught the attention of Hip-Hop godhead Dr. Dre, the legendary producer gave the up and coming Snoop the exposure of a lifetime by featuring him heavily on his 1992 album “The Chronic”. The California, US native capitalised by releasing the following years “Doggystyle” and promptly became one of the world’s most successful, famous, controversial, and downright feared musicians overnight. Since then his image has softened slightly, he’s more likely to be seen in adverts for Hot Pockets than on trial for murder (as he was in 1996), but he’s diversified to a thrilling degree as a musician.

Not content with giving the world the best G-Funk it’s ever going to get with “Who Am I (What’s My Name)?” and “Gin and Juice”, he’s also given it some of its best straight up hip hop with the Pharrell Williams assisted “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and is still unafraid to tread his own path. His most recent reinvention, with a new name (Snoop Lion) and a new reggae sound on the album “Reincarnated”, sees him still going from strength to strength 22 years into his career. With a back catalogue like his, and a bright future to match, you can’t go wrong with the Doggfather himself, Snoop Dogg.

I was pretty worried that the concert might've been uncomfortable, as I'm a teen that went with their parents. Also, my mom isn't good at keeping her calm in situations surrounded by high intensity and tons of weed (which I guarantee will be at any Snoop concert). But it was the opposite of awkward. It was really fucking fun and people of all ages and backgrounds were there. We sat in the mezzanine, and even that far away from the stage it was high energy and a great vibe. HYPE Everyone was feeling the music and yes, there was shitloads of marijuana, even in a fancy theater venue like the Paramount in Seattle. But it's not overwhelming at all, even if you don't smoke. No one's aggressive or anything of the sort or passing judgement. Everybody's there to flip out over Snoop Dogg, dance, sing their hearts out, and have a good time. Snoop was so charismatic, captivating, and comfortable onstage. He never missed a beat or messed up his lyrics and put on a great show. I lost all inhibition dancing, and I'm usually self-conscious and anxious. Tons of fun. There were about five different groups opening, which lasted around three and a half hours (Puff Puff Pass Tour Part 2). Snoop was up there for about an hour and a half. He finished with Young, Wild & Free and spoke about all the hatred in the world in its current situation and how his tour was all about empathy, peace, and love and to stay strong. It was honestly beautiful. The show closed with Bob Marley's jamming. My clothes and hair still smelled like weed the day after. Definitely a must-see.

Thought the show was very entertaining! Snoop's got a great legacy and his story is definitely worthy of a play (and a movie as well, which we know will happen). Tamar Braxton was perfect as the Angel and WOW was really impressed with La Toya London's performance! Thought physically Lil JJ was too short to play Snoop but he very much acted the part and won me over. Oh and the visuals and sound effects were great too. Every time I heard gunshots I actually turned to make sure it wasn't real. LOL!!! So my only critique was it ran a little long, thought his story could have been told in less time. Other than that great job by everyone, cast, crew, the band.

Oh and forgot how much I despise the seating arrangement at Microsoft Theater. Rows are too long so if you're seated in middle seats you have to scoot by at least 10-14 people to get to your seat, annoying! Also people actually brought infants and small children. This is not a good place to bring children. Hire a babysitter! This along with the high ticket price, convenience charge, taxes and parking fees are probably why I will consider not going here again.

Okay, who doesn't love Snoop Dogg? Maybe my grandma, but otherwise, I can't think of anyone!

So, when I had the opportunity of a lifetime to see Snoop Dogg (and others) live I was more than thrilled. I was excited as I have ever been in my entire life. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. Snoop Dogg is a legend in the rap world and he did nothing less than live up to that legacy during this show at Coachella.

He kept the audience involved in the show the entire time. There was not one dull moment, it was probably one of the best nights of my life. At one time, I swear he even looked right at me and pointed and winked at me. I almost died! I was so excited.

His music is well, Snoop Dogg's music and if you like it you love it. I enjoyed all the old school music that he played as well as some of the newer songs he has.

His performance was great. He had me smiling the entire time, I seriously couldn't believe I was seeing Snoop Dogg. Like, it was him, right there in front of me. I will never forget that night. One of the best ever!

Last night's snoop show was a blast !! We puffed puffed passed till we couldn't anymore cuz the show ended but The smooth dark chocolate rapper has done it again in Colorado showing us that his vital stamina and pure heart and soulkeeps him ahead of the pack !! Well since it was spoiled rasta Rosa's 4 th Snoopsy concert in 2016 I'll rate it #2 after the 420 concert with wiz @ Fiddlers Green in April I loved the old school feel with Bone Thigs and harmony it was like my cherry got poped again 18 years later took me right back to the Glorydays !!! Lol I love you Snoop I am your biggest Fan from Colorado. It's funny Snoop was talking about bucket lists last night and go sure smoking with the Dogg face to face blowing o's in each other's face is definitely on my bucket list ! Bring The wifey and Martha we will all get down ! Thank you Snoop for listening to yourself to be who you are you inspire the best of us !!!

Well, it was great to see him do so many hits, (and I actually really admired the athleticism of the 2 pole dancers on the stage). However, it really felt like he was phoning it in. The show was 1 long medley. I don't think he performed 1 song from beginning to end, and there was definitely a lack of energy on the stage. But, ya know what? My friend and I agreed; if anyone has earned the right to do that, it's him at this point in his career. Now, if I had paid $150 or $300 I would've been pissed and felt ripped off. But the for the $60 I paid, it was fine. We enjoyed the show, and I always enjoy going to the Concord in Chicago - it's a great venue: best acoustics anywhere, plenty of elbow room even for sold out shows, and plenty of bars with little or no waiting.

The overall show was 5.5 hours so it was good value from that perspective. Kudos to the long line-up. I've seen Snoop perform about 10 times. The good thing is that his overall stage presence was fairly long and he touched on many songs, albums and artists and he made a decent effort. The bad part is that he shortens all the songs by about half, to ensure he can cover more songs (which I think is fine), but also speeds the bpm of songs which makes them a bit disorienting to those that know the songs and lyrics. I didn't love the dancing girls personally but that is a matter of taste. Wow, since he stopped wearing Adidas, his wardrobe style ranking has sure dropped a quite a few levels! ; )

The concert all the way around was so LIT

I have been to many concerts and I would have to say by far the best concert I have ever witnessed in my life. I can’t even say who was better Bone Thugz, Warren G and Snoop where all amazing !!! I am so happy that I was able to witness this concert and the storm going down in the back round just made the concert that much better !!

It sucked. Cypress hill was dope... if they promoted that snoop dogg and wiz were collaborating and performing together I would have never gone. It was garbage snoop should just stick to himself on stage and play his style of music. Don't waste your money on going. Unless u like that new style of "hip hop" than its perfect but if not than definitely don't waste your money

West Coast rap legend Snoop Dogg has come a long way since being discovered by Dr. Dre in the early 1990. As impressive as he was when guesting on Dre’s The Chronic in 1992, few could have guessed he’d go on to global fame, tens of millions of record sales, and a career in movies and TV. And that’s only part of the story, from battles with the law to reinvention as a reggae artist.

He was born Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr. in Long Beach, California, on October 20, 1971. His “Snoop Dogg” nickname came from his mother because she thought he looked like Snoopy from the Peanuts cartoon. He played the piano and sang at his local Baptist church, before starting rap in sixth grade. After graduating high school, Snoop was arrested several times for drug possession and spent time in prison. He was also associated with the Rollin’ 20 Crips Gang. He started making music as a way out of his troubles and recorded early demos with his cousin Nate Dogg and friend Warren G as 213. A track on one of these came to the attention of Dr. Dre who invited Snoop — then rapping under the name Snoop Doggy Dogg — to audition. From there they collaborated on a song called “Deep Cover” for the soundtrack of the film for the same name; and Snoop became the key rapper on Dre’s hugely successful first solo album, The Chronic, in 1992.

Snoop’s first album, the Dre-produced Doggystyle (1993), climbed its way to the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s hip-hop and Top 200 charts, based in part on the success of the singles “ Who Am I (What’s My Name)? ” and “ Gin and Juice .”

Next came a short film called Murder Was the Case , the soundtrack of which went double platinum. Snoop’s next album, The Doggfather (1996), also reached the top of the charts, despite the absence of Dre, who had left Death Row Records over a contract dispute. Snoop then left Death Row himself, falling out with label mogul Suge Knight and moving to Master P’s No Limit Records. He scored the top slot on the hip-hop charts with his next two albums: Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told (1998) and No Limit Top Dogg (1999). His last album for No Limit, The Last Meal , came in 2000 and sold over 2 million copies. By now his sound had become less “gangsta rap” and somewhat smoother.

Snoop continued to make music throughout the noughts, enjoying a big hit in 2004 with the chart-topping single “ Drop It Like It’s Hot ,” which sparked several fruitful collaborations with Pharrell Williams . He reunited with Warren G and Nate Dogg as 213 to drop the album The Hard Way in 2004. In 2007, Snoop became the first artist to release a track — “ It’s The D.O.G ” — as a ringtone prior to its release as a single.

He also branched out into acting during the same period and appeared in several films, including Starsky & Hutch, The Wash and Training Day. He also made guest appearances on television shows, including The L Word and Weeds, and starred in his own E! reality show, Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood , in 2007. He was part of a sketch show, Doggy Fizzle Televizzle , and participated in the Comedy Central Roast of the future president Donald Trump. He also uses his likeable laconic personality to good effect in a new venture for VH1, Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party , where he and Martha Stewart host dinner parties for various celebrities.

Outside of music, Snoop has made investments in the burgeoning cannabis business. In November 2015 he launched Leafs By Snoop, becoming the first A-list celebrity to brand a line of cannabis products. That same year he also launched a new digital-media venture called Merry Jane, which focuses on the latest marijuana news. In May 2017 Snoop dropped his fifteenth studio album Neva Left . He also released a gospel album titled Bible of Love in March 2018.

He is held in high esteem and affection by hip-hop fans worldwide, and is one of the most recognizable faces and voices of the whole genre, even to those who don’t listen to his music. He has the distinction for having the most Grammy nominations of any music artist— 17 to date — without having won one. But as Snoop Dogg shows few signs of retiring, don’t write him off just yet.

HARDY Covers Iconic Hip-Hop Song 'Gin & Juice' With Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre's Blessing

HARDY says he was in 'disbelief' but 'stoked' for the opportunity to cover the iconic song.

By Stephen Andrew - April 24, 2024 06:58 pm EDT

HARDY is well-known for cranking out genre-bending tunes for country and rock fans , but now he's added hip-hop into the mix. The Mississippi-born country superstar just dropped a cover of Snoop Dogg 's iconic '90s song, Gin & Juice," and he did it wth Snoop and Dr. Dre 's blessing. Check it out below!

"A while back, I got a phone call saying that Jimmy Iovine, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg would like for me to record my own version of 'Gin and Juice' for the launch of their new drink, Gin & Juice ," HARDY said in a press release. "I'm still in disbelief, but I am so stoked that I'm dropping my version of 'Gin and Juice' with the blessing of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg themselves. Thankful for the opportunity."

HARDY originally comes from Philadelphia, Mississippi. After high school, he moved to Tennessee and kickstarted his music career by writing songs for artists such as Florida-Georgia Line and Morgan Wallen. Hardy dropped a couple of EPs before releasing his debut album,  A Rock , in 2020.

Notably, HARDY's sound has evolved over the past few years, from being fairly straightforward modern country to blending in much heavier elements. He's even teamed up with heavier bands like Beartooth and Bilmuri, and brought Jeremy McKinnon from Florida hardcore band A Day To Remember in to do guest vocals on  "Radio Song,"  from his sophomore album,  The Mockingbird & the Crow .

His most recent single is "Rockstar," a seeming homage to Nickleback's hit tune of the same name, as well as an exploration of his journey from a Mississippi kid to a full-fledged rock star.

Breaking Down the Ridiculousness of Drake’s “Taylor Made” Kendrick Diss With AI Tupac and Snoop Dogg

Drake used AI technology to come after Kendrick Lamar again. Here’s what it all means.

Drake just made an insane chess move in his rap war with Kendrick Lamar by using artificial intelligence to pit two of Dot’s idols, Tupac and Snoop Dogg, against him.

You might be asking yourself, “What the fuck is going on?” And you’d be asking the right question. Right after the internet was sent into a tailspin with a viral Kendrick response track that Complex debunked as being the work of AI, Drake doubled down on his own instigation tactics when he dropped an AI-assisted diss song “Taylor Made Freestyle” on Instagram Friday night.

On the nearly four-minute song, Drake uses AI technology to make it sound like Tupac and Snoop Dogg are pleading with Kendrick to respond to the OVO rapper and protect west coast rap’s legacy. After AI Tupac and AI Snoop finish their verses, Drake comes in and lays an impressive verse himself, calling Dot a coward for not dropping yet. And he does it all over a beat that sounds like it could be found by searching “West Coast type beat” on YouTube (likely by design). According to DJ Akademiks, Drake allegedly wrote both of the verses for AI Tupac and AI Snoop Dogg, which would make sense given their sarcastic nature (and how similar their cadences are to his).

The title “Taylor Made” is Drake’s way of saying that Kendrick is waiting to release his response track because Taylor Swift made him get out of the way of her massive album, The Tortured Poets Department, which dropped on Friday. Drake is playing into the narrative that Kendrick gets pushed around by the music industry machine and isn’t in control of his own destiny, rapping lines like, “Now we gotta wait a fucking week 'cause Taylor Swift is your new Top/ And if you 'bout to drop, she gotta approve.”

This war between Drake, Kendrick, and half the rap game continues to be the most unpredictable battle that rap has seen in decades. Here’s a breakdown of each verse in “Taylor Made Freestyle” and an explanation of what it all means.

The Al Tupac verse:

snoop dogg tour uk line up

Kendrick has a well-documented admiration for Tupac Shakur (he even used audio from an unreleased Pac interview to make it sound like they were talking to each other at the end of “Mortal Man” ) which makes it even more devious for Drake to create a sarcastic AI Pac verse aimed at Dot.

AI Pac opens the song by pleading for Kendrick to respond to “Push Ups” and implying that the lights might be too bright for Dot: “Kendrick we need ya, the West Coast savior/ Engraving your name in some hip-hop history/ If you deal with this viciously/ You seem a little nervous about all the publicity.”

Then AI Pac gives Kendrick some advice for his impending response track to Drake: “Talk about him liking young girls as a gift from me/ Heard it on the Budden Podcast, it's gotta be true.” This is a reference to comments that Joe Budden made on a recent podcast where he called Drake out for predatory behavior and played an old clip of the Toronto rapper interacting with a 17-year-old fan at a show. This seems to be Drake’s way of getting ahead of whatever potential ammo Kendrick might try to use against him in a reply track.

Drake then takes another jab at Kendrick’s stature through AI Pac with bars like, “ They told me the spirit of Makaveli is alive / In the nigga under five-foot-five, so it's gotta be you.” He goes on to reference Dot’s line about “burning tattoos” on “Like That” and says that Drake “is not amused,” before sarcastically questioning why Dot “asked for the smoke” but now seems “too busy for the smoke.”

Through AI Pac, Drake says people are “confused” about why he hasn’t dropped a reply yet, and implies that Kendrick is being forced to wait because Taylor Swift (who is also signed under Universal Music Group) had already planned to release her big album this week: “'Bout to give this shit another week/ And fall back to homegirl who runnin' numbers up/ I woulda refused/ Fuck these industry relationships, she not in your shoes.”

Drake closes AI Pac’s verse by questioning Kendrick’s “boogeyman” persona (a reputation he’s earned for leaving other artists in fear of stepping to him) before passing the verse to AI Snoop.

The Al Snoop Dogg verse:

snoop dogg tour uk line up

AI Snoop Dogg opens his verse by rapping, “Nephew, what the fuck you really 'bout to do?/ We passed you the torch in the House of Blues,” which references the infamous moment in 2011 when Snoop, Dr. Dre, and The Game passed the symbolic west coast rap torch to Kendrick in front of a live audience. Drake then uses AI Snoop to imply that Kendrick isn’t capable of doing the “dirty work” of shooting back at him because he’s “never been to jail or wore jumpsuits and shower shoes/ Never shot nobody, never stabbed nobody/ Never did nothing violent and know when it's the homies that empower you.” AI Snoop (and Drake) are basically saying that Kendrick is not “like that,” despite all of his tough talk in verses.

After making some very basic owl analogies (probably on purpose), AI Snoop raps, “Now's a time to really make a power move/ 'Cause right now it's looking like you writing out the game plan on how to lose/ How to bark up the wrong tree and then get your head popped in a crowded room.” The tail-end of that bar is Drake’s way of calling back Kendrick’s canine/K-9 double entendre on “Like That” and using it against him, saying that he “[barked] up the wrong tree.” Later, AI Snoop raps that the “world is watching this chess game, but oh, you out of moves,” evoking imagery from the “First Person Shooter” music video where Drake and Cole recreated the photo of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo playing chess . Drake closes AI Snoop’s verse by poking fun at Kendrick’s status as a rappers’ rapper, saying, “Dot, you know that the OG never fucking doubted you/ But right now it seem like you posted up without a clue/ Of what the fuck you 'bout to do.” Then he passes the song back to himself.

The Drake verse:

snoop dogg tour uk line up

On the third verse, Drake finally takes the AI effects off and raps in his own voice. After agreeing with AI Uncle Snoop’s lyrics, he raps, “I'm definitely about to come around the Lang gang and let my fucking bowel move/ Shitting on you niggas from a whole different altitude/ High up in the sky like I'm Howard Hughes.” This is a self-explanatory bar about Drake shitting on Kendrick’s pgLang label, as he compares himself to aerospace engineer, pilot, and business mogul Howard Hughes , who was known in his lifetime as being one of the richest people in the world.

Drake goes on to say that “Push Ups” only took him “an hour or two” to make and hints that his next diss track will “bring out the coward” in Kendrick. Then Drake digs deeper into his belief that Dot didn’t drop his reply this weekend because he was forced to stay out of Taylor Swift’s way. “But now we gotta wait a fucking week 'cause Taylor Swift is your new Top/ And if you 'bout to drop, she gotta approve/ This girl really 'bout to make you act like you not in a feud/ She tailor-made your schedule with Ant, you out of the loop,” Drake raps, insinuating that Swift is Kendrick’s new boss. More specifically, he compares her to Kendrick’s old Top Dog Entertainment boss (Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith), who he also rapped about on “Push Ups,” and implies that she and Top dictate Dot’s release schedule.

After calling Kendrick a “corporate industry puppet” for getting out of the way of Taylor’s release, Drake questions why Dot hasn’t maintained the energy he had on “Like That” over these last few weeks, rapping, “Since ‘Like That’ your tone changed a little, you not as enthused/ How are you not in the booth?/ It feel like you kinda removed/You tryna let this shit die down/Nah, nah, nah, not this time nigga, you followin' through.” Drake is dead set on the idea that Dot is trying to duck him because he hasn’t responded within a week, despite the fact that it took him three weeks to respond to “Like That” with “Push Ups.”

Drake closes his verse by continuing to taunt Kendrick about not responding immediately, rapping, “I guess you need another week to figure out how to improve/ What the fuck is taking so long? We waitin' on you.” Then he makes sure that the rest of his opposition know that he still has more bars for them whenever they decide to drop, too: “The rest of y'all are definitely involved, y'all gettin it too/ Soon as you get the courage to drop, I'm out on the loose.”

Then he sends even more shots in the outro, calling Taylor Swift the “biggest gangster in the music game right now” (possibly a sub at Rick Ross, who called her song titles “gangsta” on Friday), before referencing his own lyrics on “Red Button” about her being the only artist who can make him move his album release dates. Drake says Swift has pgLang “on mute,” like the viral Beyonce challenge , and calls out Kendrick one more time, saying he’s “in that NY apartment, you strugglin right now.” (Kendrick bought a penthouse in Brooklyn late last year.)

Was it effective?

snoop dogg tour uk line up

Drake’s decision to use artificial intelligence in a diss track is a polarizing development in this feud. Assuming that Akademiks is correct and Drake did in fact write and rap the first two verses himself (before applying AI Tupac and Snoop filters to his voice), it was a very clever chess move to use Kendrick’s idols against him. It further dramatizes an already theatrical beef, and it’s a way for Drake to try and remove potential disses from the board that Kendrick could’ve used against him. After weeks of discussion about AI in rap, thanks to all of the fake diss tracks popping up, Drake leaned into his internet-savvy ways and figured out how to use the technology as a weapon in his own diss song.

It was a clever move, but let’s not pretend it’s all positive, though. All is fair in love and rap war, so it’s hard to argue the moral permissibility of Drake evoking the voice of a deceased artist like Pac, especially when Dot also used deepfake AI technology in his “The Heart Part 5” music video to look like Kobe Bryant and Nipsey Hussle. But there’s a difference. Dot got the approval of Nip’s family and was using the tech to pay homage to the late icons, and Drake is using it in a much different context. We also have to take into account the potentially dangerous symbolism of a massive artist like Drake embracing AI technology, and he shouldn’t be lauded as a creative mastermind for it. 200 high-profile artists just signed a petition to protect music from shit like this. With disinformation already running rampant on the internet, the last thing rap needs is the voices of the dead popping up on diss tracks.

Drake questioning Kendrick’s “boogeyman” persona through AI Tupac hit harder than if he had just rapped it himself, and there is something very Lex Luthor about him even thinking of this in the first place, but seeing the biggest artist in the genre championing this cheap gimmick (especially while evoking the voice of a deceased legend to get a one-up on someone in a petty diss track) is pretty lame to me. I don’t think it’s necessarily a precursor for things to come that aren’t already happening, but AI in hip-hop is too new (and the lines are still too muddy) for it to be used in this way without taking a minute to think of potentially nasty applications in the future.

What’s next?

snoop dogg tour uk line up

“Taylor Made Freestyle” is no “Back to Back,” but Drake has made it clear that he desperately wants Kendrick to respond to his jabs and keep the rap war going. He isn’t ducking any smoke from the rest of his opposition, either, so it sounds like the ball is in everyone else’s court now.

Make no mistake, Kendrick Lamar will respond to Drake—it’s just a matter of when. Drake is trying to rush him, but it took the OVO artist three weeks to “leak” his initial response to “Like That” on April 13, and Mal said on the New Rory and Mal podcast that he’s heard whispers of Kendrick preparing to drop an album in May, so that might be when we hear a response. It’s important to remember that good rap responses can take time. Nas waited three months after Jay-Z dropped “Takeover” in Sept. 2001 before he released “Ether” in December of that year. Let Dot cook.

Olympics Overhaul: NBC Bets on Snoop Dogg, Peacock and Wild Ideas to Ensure the 2024 Paris Games Are a Ratings Bonanza

Olympic Star

What do Peyton Manning, Snoop Dogg , Kelly Clarkson, Mike Tirico and Jimmy Fallon have in common?

This is not a joke — at least not to the leaders of NBC Universal and a small army of NBC Sports producers hunkered down at offices in Stamford, Conn., and Paris, France.

Popular on Variety

NBCUniversal can’t afford to be beholden to the traditions established when it first landed Olympics rights for the U.S. in 1988. The company is banking on the appeal of the city of Paris and a parade of pop-culture figures to bring pizzazz to about 7,000 hours of competition coverage and related programming that will run from July 26 through Aug. 11.

“This kind of celebrity wouldn’t have been part of NBC Olympics coverage of the past. Now it’s one of the foundational elements,” says Rick Cordella, president of NBC Sports. “We’ve got to be innovating, trying things differently, trying to match where the media world is in 2024.”

To pull that off, NBCU has turned to a deep bench of talent — from Fallon to Clarkson to a variety of social media influencers. Snoop Dogg will deliver man-on-the-street observations as he brings his blunt humor (and maybe even some blunts) to help enliven the primetime coverage. Manning and Clarkson will serve as cohosts with Tirico for the glitzy opening ceremony on July 26. Fallon will join with Tirico for the closing ceremony on Aug. 11. In the past, those hosting assignments usually went to NBC News stars. On Peacock, which draws a younger audience, NBCU has drafted Alex Cooper, the podcast megastar and host of “Call Her Daddy,” to offer her thoughts on the buzz surrounding the Games. She’ll also host a series of interactive Olympics watch parties for Peacock.

In something that might seem more at home on “America’s Got Talent” or “The Voice,” the network even plans to deploy five heart-rate monitors among the parents of athletes. The results will be shown onscreen as moms and dads watch their kids compete — something that test audiences have loved. Will the medical devices have an on-screen sponsor?  “We are talking about it.” says Dan Lovinger, the NBC ad-sales executive who is responsible for snaring hundreds of millions in ad support. “It’s important for us to have some new voices and some fan voices,” Solomon says. The Games are “primarily for sports,” she says, but there’s nothing wrong with “a couple of short bursts of energy.” Clarkson hopes to be one of those bursts. “I love finding out how people overcome their circumstances, how they get to where they are, especially at this level,” she says. “I love the human story.”

Producing the Olympics is a Herculean task in any year. Solomon (the first woman to exec utive produce the Olympics for NBC) and her lieutenants are facing the potential for disaster if the new ethos around the presentation of the Games falls flat with the core audience of dedicated sports fans. NBCU has already captured about $1.2 billion in Olympics ad revenue commitments; if viewership is weak, the company will face backlash from Madison Avenue.

The Olympics are billed as the pinnacle of sports, but it can be a tough sell if the athletes aren’t well known. The Games have to generate fan interest in a relatively short time, compared with a baseball or basketball team that has a months-long season that builds toward playoffs and championship games.

“You have a combination of the excitement for some of these sports with the fact that not many of them are household names,” says Daniel Cohen, executive VP of media rights consulting at Octagon, a sportsmanagement unit of Interpublic Group. “We haven’t seen a Phelps in a while,” he says, referring to Michael Phelps, the swimmer whose exploits buoyed the 2012 Summer Games in London and the 2016 Olympics in Rio. NBC is “injecting that celebrity, that household name, but doing it through com mentary and talking heads and play by play.”

In addition to testing a primetime show that juggles sports with celebrity appearances, the group also needs to make sure the sports die hards are satisfied by Peacock’s live-event coverage, which will be enhanced by all manner of interactive stats, athlete profiles and other dig ital bells and whistles. One of NBCU’s key long term goals is to use the Olympics as a showcase to draw more paid subscribers to the outlet. The company also needs to use Paris to get viewers excited about the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. Those will be the first Games to take place in the U.S. since 2002, when the Winter Games were held in Salt Lake City. Traditionally, Olympics held in the U.S. whip up American audiences, boosting profits for U.S. networks.

NBCUniversal’s scramble to reinvent its Olympics coverage reflects broader trends in sports on TV, which is the last genre of programming that can still reliably draw large audiences. For decades, everything from NFL football to bowling has been telecast with an emphasis on showing “the thrill of victory … and the agony of defeat” (as ABC’s long-running “Wide World of Sports” once described it). But these days, to keep the crowds big and to help cover the ever-increasing costs of sports rights fees, networks are trying to turn game coverage into pop-culture events. ESPN’s success with its alternative “Monday Night Football” telecast featuring commentary from former NFL quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Eli Manning has opened the floodgates of experimentation with sports telecasts.

NBCUniversal executives freely acknowledge the Games have given the company a rough ride in the recent past. The Winter Games in Pyeong-chang, South Korea, in 2018, presented time zone challenges for U.S. telecasts, and there were worries about how North Korea would behave. The 2021 Summer Games in Tokyo — delayed a year by COVID — generated less excitement than usual; because fans weren’t allowed in the stands, NBC Sports had a hard time creating the on-the-ground vignettes that are a signature element of its coverage. Finally, the Winter Games in Beijing, in 2022, spurred a torrent of criticism around China’s human-rights record.

After all this, it’s no surprise that some advertisers want new ideas. “The tonality of everything changed during the Games’ Asian swing,” says Jeremy Carey, chief investment officer for Optimum Sports. But there is also optimism as the 2024 Games approach. Getting an Olympics “closer to home, in a big city like Paris — we are incredibly excited for it,” Carey says, “and we’ve got Olympic advertisers that are super excited as well.”

Before Solomon and her team plunge into the ins and outs of diving completions and soccer matches, they take time during a recent planning meeting to discuss something really important: a Snoop Dogg update. “He wants to be the biggest kid at the Olympics, to be silly, to be sincere,” Solomon tells her crew after paying the entrepreneur a visit.

“He wants to ‘celebrate love and respect.’ Those are really his words. He really wants to be Snoop on the loose and to follow the Dogg, double-G.”

Solomon has grown accustomed to covering new terrain. She was promoted to her current role as Olympics executive producer just before NBC dove into the Tokyo Games. She’s keenly aware of how quickly viewing habits shift in the era of on-demand streaming. She uses her family as a focus group, studying how her children consume their favorite shows to guide her on how to tell the stories of the Olympics. She hopes the recent audience bonanza har vested by the NCAA women’s basketball tour nament bodes well for the Paris Olympics, which will feature the return of both gymnast Sim one Biles and swimmer Katie Ledecky. There’s also a men’s basketball tournament that will draw from a potential roster of U.S. players that includes LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant and Joel Embiid.

She also knows how to keep her eye on the ball, so to speak. When a previous NBC Sports president called Solmon to tell her about her Olympics appointment, she was playing golf in Orlando and needed to finish her round before she would speak with him.  “I wasn’t going to talk to anyone while I was on the 16th hole,” Solomon quips.

Still, it's really the competitors who count. When formulating Olympics plans, “you really have to hope” for a breakout by a particular athlete, says Jim Bell, a former NBCU executive who helped produce multiple Olympic Games. “With COVID and some of the other factors in the last two Olympics, it has been tough. There were barely any people in the stands, and they were on the other side of the world. Now you’ve got a signature location and it’s the City of Light, the City of Love, and you have all this good energy coming back.” The celebrities represent something NBC pro ducers can count on as they wait for heroes to emerge -- still a critical element, says Bell. Nothing succeeds like "American athletes with medals around their necks and great images of their families in the stands celebrating.”

NBC has spent months trying to make viewers familiar with the new format. Promos for the Summer Olympics, which have been running since 2023, have relied not on athletic hopefuls but on influencers with big social-media followings, like Paris Hilton and Megan Thee Stallion. In the past, NBC has started promoting its Olympics telecasts about a year in advance, says Jenny Storms, chief marketing officer of entertainment and sports for NBCUniversal, and has usually relied on athletic themes. For this Olympics, Dolly Parton and Lily Collins have done promotional turns.

“Everything we’ve done has been starting from scratch,” says Storms. “It’s been an exercise in bravery, taking something you have done for so long and starting as if you’ve never done it before.”

Solomon says her team has developed new rules for breaking the old ones. Some of them defy conventional wisdom. NBC’s primetime presentation of highlights from earlier in the day, Solomon tells the assembled staffers in Stamford, “is an encore presentation. Some thing has to reach a really high bar to deserve a second airing. And if it does deserve a second airing, what are we doing to enhance it, since it was live during the day?”

Her comments reveal how quickly technology has overturned TV’s rules of engagement. Peacock is the place where Olympics fans can watch every event live in its entirety, but it will also offer a new show called “Gold Zone,” which will move quickly from event to event, searching for the most interesting or decisive moments of competition à la the NFL’s RedZone service.

“It should be perhaps one of the more sought after and viewed streams that we offer,” says Gary Zenkel, president of NBC Olympics, who has supervised all Olympics business activity since 2005.

NBC estimates more than 20% of Olympics viewership will come from the Peacock streaming platform. That percentage will only grow over the next few years. Dan Lovinger, the NBC ad sales executive, says that the pressure to prioritize primetime viewing has eased, even though advertising rates are still highest for such old-fashioned viewing on NBC.

“Whether they’re watching linear or digital, we don’t really care,” says Lovinger. “We monetize all platforms. I’m very confident that this will be the most supported Olympic Games of all time — in dollars,” he says, adding, “That’s what we count.”

All NBC needs now is for the Games to start. Executives know “pretty early” if the Games are working or not, says Zenkel, based on audience data and social media. “You prepare as well as you can,” he says, “and then you turn on the switch.”

All About Rapper and Olympic Commentator Snoop Dogg

Here's everything fans need to know about Snoop Dogg ahead of the Summer Olympics.

snoop dogg tour uk line up

There is no entertainer on Earth quite like Snoop Dogg – and thanks to his involvement in NBC's coverage of the 2024 Summer Olympics , the world is about to see the competition through the eyes of one of the most successful hip-hop artists in history!

The entertainment world has been buzzing ever since Snoop was chosen — alongside icons like Peyton Manning and Kelly Clarkson — as one of the official hosts of the Paris Olympics. According to NBC, Snoop Dogg will explain many aspects of the Summer Games that may not be apparent to American audiences, from historic Paris landmarks to the rules of unfamiliar sports. Snoop will have a golden opportunity to show off his chops on the microphone, too — he's slated to interview many Olympic athletes throughout NBC's award-winning coverage.

There's never been an Olympic host that has piqued fans' interest worldwide — so with that in mind, here's everything viewers need to know about Snoop Dogg ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Snoop Dogg performs in sunglasses and a hat.

How old is Snoop Dogg?

For many people it seems like Snoop Dogg has been around forever, but he's only 52 years old – he was born on October 20, 1971. Snoop was barely 21 when he was unleashed to an unsuspecting hip-hop world as a guest rapper on the seminal Dr. Dre album,  The Chronic .

Seemingly overnight, Snoop Dogg climbed the hip-hop charts and catapulted the West Coast Rap genre to new heights. It wasn't long before he became an American cultural icon, with influence extending far beyond the music industry.

How tall is Snoop Dogg?

Snoop Dogg is 6'4" – a height that may be shocking for many fans! Even more impressive is that he (relatively) towers over prospective members of the 2024 Men's U.S. Olympic Basketball team, like two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry (6'2") and defensive specialist Jrue Holiday (6'3").

He's a longtime basketball fan, so it wouldn't surprise us if he has a few chats with Team USA throughout the Olympics as they march toward yet another basketball gold medal in Paris.

What is Snoop Dogg's real name?

Snoop Dogg's real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.

(Talk about the answer to one of the most challenging trivia questions we can think of.)

We must admit, the name "Snoop Dogg" is a bit easier for potential music fans to remember, but there's something about "Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr." that seems almost… majestic. (Okay, we're putting way too much thought into this.)

Is Snoop Dogg married?

Yes, Snoop Dogg is married – he and his wife Shante wed in June 1997. As they approach their 30th year together, many may wonder how they've managed to stay so close – especially with Snoop Dogg being in the public eye so much.

As it turns out, it's all about sacrifice and compromise.

"I think because we were both young and we were both willing to sacrifice for each other. She knew what my dreams and goals was, and at the same time, I knew what hers were," he explained to TODAY in 2023. "To have a family and to be who we are. We both wanted to get to that goal, and when we reached it, it was hard, definitely, because you got so many different things pulling you away from marriage, and people divorcing every other day. But when you truly love somebody, there ain't nothing you can do to break that up and I feel like that was true love at first sight."

Snoop Dogg poses with family at his star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame.

How many kids does Snoop Dogg have?

Snoop is the father to four children — three sons, Corde, 28; Cordell, 27; Julian, 26; and one daughter, Cori, 25.

Unsurprisingly, his kids have a penchant for success. Cori is following in her dad's footsteps in the music world, even contributing guest vocals to her father's 2012 album,  Reincarnated . She is a talented artist in her own right, with countless original tracks found on streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. Corde is also heavily involved in the music world and enjoys being a family man alongside his longtime girlfriend and three children.

While Cori and Corde are the only children to capitalize on the musical talent found in her DNA, the rest of the family are no slouches — Julian currently enjoys a successful career in real estate, while Cordell is a rising star in the business world.

In other words, they're busy making their parents proud.

Where is Snoop Dogg from?

Throughout countless iconic hip-hop records, Snoop Dogg never passes up an opportunity to give his hometown a shout-out — it's ingrained in the minds of millions of hip-hop fans, after all — Long Beach, California. It's safe to say that Snoop's success put this Southern California city on the map in more ways than one.

Thanks to the efforts of Snoop, Dr. Dre, the late Nate Dogg, and other prominent Long Beach rappers, the West Coast style of hip-hop is a genre of music that will live on in music history for years to come.

The 2024 Paris Games are well on their way to becoming the most entertaining, competitive, and memorable Olympics ever – and we're looking forward to Snoop Dogg helping viewers on NBC unpack everything they witness.

To see how Team USA performs at the  2024 Olympics , tune in to  Peacock  and  NBC  beginning July 26.

Drake Mostly Made Himself Look Bad on His Latest Diss

By Andre Gee

The long-awaited showdown between Kendrick Lamar and Drake has been bogged down by Instagram Story trolling, X bots, and artificial intelligence . While the rap world awaits Kendrick’s response to Drake, we’ve also been made to ponder technology’s role in societal decline. When the rap Gods declared “There are no rules in rap beef,” they likely weren’t imagining stan wars with hordes of X bot accounts feverishly posting sophomoric disses like “Daycares worldwide are being told to stay on high alert for Kendrick Lamar.”

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, drake removes 'taylor made freestyle' after lawsuit threat over ai tupac, tupac estate demands drake take down 'taylor made freestyle' over ai vocals, rick ross' drake diss video is actually self-promo (and it's genius).

Both wore figurative masks and rapped from the perspective of West Coast giants, but while Kendrick did so to embody Nipsey Hussle, Drake used “Taylor Made” to obscure who he was. On “The Heart Part 5,” Kendrick uses his “Nipsey” verse to shed light on the toll of violence and impermanence of life, while Drake uses Tupac and Snoop’s voices to say things he didn’t have the heart, or credibility to say himself. In Snoop’s voice he rhymed, “never shot nobody, never stabbed nobody never did nothing violent to no one, it’s the homies that empower you” but as far as we know, the same applies to Drake. On “The Heart Part 5,” Kendrick rhymed of Nipsey Hussle, “I completed my mission, wasn’t ready to leave / But fulfilled my days, my Creator was pleased,” while Drake evoked Tupac to reference whispers about his alarming interactions with teenage girls — allegations that he’s never addressed himself.

In many ways, the Kendrick beef is playing out in Drake’s favor online. He’s delivering propaganda through rap media personalities clamoring for access, his stans are running bot farms, and fan pages are coming up with conjectural theories about why artists are coming out against him. It’s all annoying, but using AI vocals is even more disheartening. Just last week fans were annoyed with AI when we didn’t know if Drake or Kendrick disses were real, but now some are doing mental gymnastics to convince themselves that evoking other people in a beef, especially a dead person, is fair game.
