Note for review: This is based on the travel agent specifically. The agent used an outside agency called FunJet but works for Carrousel Travel. This was also the wife of a friend. I say that so people reading this understand that this was treated with more patience than usual, not less. That being said here is what transpired. Pam Novotney has been the absolute worst person I have ever had to deal with in my life from a customer service perspective. We booked our wedding group through her. That is 26 total people for a trip to Cancun. Since the start of this process there has been nothing but problems in the form of booking errors, communication issues, and pure disrespect for my wife and I. The list of transgressions against us is long. First she was pushing specific resorts on us that we did not want to go to. I actually ended up finding the resort we wanted to go to. Then every single person or group that booked with her had to get price matched because her initial cost would be hundreds of dollars more. She did match prices we found so I do consider that a plus, but again I had to do that research along with my whole family. Also she just called us out of the blue saying we need to have everyone pay in the next three days (no warning) or their trip will be cancelled. This was because she had personal matters to attend to leading up to the uncommunicated due date. So we are rushing to get everyone to pay her. Again why are we doing this? She made many clerical errors with at least 60% of the people who booked. Either it was wrong spelling of a name, wrong birthday, or even gender was inaccurate. She also missed putting travel insurance on my sister and by the time we caught it, she told us it was too late. Can you imagine if we would have shown up to the airport with anyone of the above occurring? We would request her to fix the issue and the response time would be days to a week and half with no results. Then after all of that she would not take responsibility; blaming us, or the agency for the errors. She shows absolutely NO EMPATHY for our situation and wants us to call FunJet and/or the airlines to fix the issue. Today I spent hours on the phone with our airline to correct her mistakes. The most infuriating thing is she is getting paid for this huge group while my wife and I do her job for her; fixing her mistakes days before leaving for the wedding (as if we need to be dealing with this). The final thing is she sold us on some discounts we would get with booking everyone through her (for 10 rooms at one resort). We didn't see a single discount or kickback. That shows little integrity. At the end of the day a Travel Agent is supposed to make you feel better about the traveling part and she did the exact opposite.

Bad experience all around. Poor communication, treated us poorly, and made many mistakes.

Administrative Talent Pool (An Emeriti Partnership Program)

Mayo Clinic has approved the creation of a talent pool of emeriti who have skills and interest in temporary supplemental employment performing non-clinical administrative work.   The program is designed to support work at all three Mayo sites, is available to all emeriti (M.D., PhD, and administrative) at all sites and may include non-clinical work in all three shields.

Emeriti are being recruited to fill temporary needs leading and completing work such as new projects or initiatives, leadership coaching, and interim and supplemental assignments.   The program began in a limited capacity in 2018 and has been very successful.  We are expecting continued need and growth in 2019 as the need for flexible skilled staff grows, as communication to Mayo Clinic leadership continues and as more emeriti are interested in flexible work. Several departments have employed a small number of emeriti in the past. The enterprise emeriti administrative partnership program is designed to assure a consistent and organized re-employment process and is led by Mayo Clinic Human Resource shared service.  

The process for physicians returning to clinical practice in supplemental roles is outside the scope of this program and will continue to be handled by their respective specialty department with formal Personnel Committee approval.

Mansfield man finds creative success in telling stories

"Quiet on the set. Action!"

Making movies since his childhood, a lifelong local is hitting his stride.

Meet your neighbor and man of various talents, Cody Adkins.

With a starring role in last summer’s release, " Summer of Sorrow: The Movie ," Adkins found himself in an unexpected position.

“I started out as an extra,” he said. Incidentally, the man and woman originally cast as the lead characters suddenly dropped out.

It was Adkins' first time on screen in a movie. He was surprised to suddenly find himself cast as the main male character — his grandfather, no less. “That was a wild ride,” he said.

No stranger to movie-making, Adkins has been creating his own films since he was 10.

Adkins moved on to weddings and commercials as he grew older, initially working under the business name of Ol’ Dutch Productions. He has done commercials for City Grille, The Vault and recently for an automotive group in North Carolina.

Adkins shot weddings for four years, but he wanted to move into more creative outlets. His business needed to reflect the new direction of the brand, so he renamed it Nomadica Cinematics.

Many projects are in the works

Since this past fall, Wilmington, North Carolina, has been the filming location for a film Adkins wrote called "Beyond the Finish Line." He also has another movie he wrote in pre-production called "Echoes in Eden." It will be his first attempt to earn a spot in a film festival.

And that's not all.

“I have a pilot series that I’ve written five episodes," he said. “I have three other scripts that are finished, but I don’t have time to shoot that many things at one time."

Adkins is seeking like-minded people to collaborate, so readers are invited to contact Nomadica Cinematics via Facebook .

Adkins' younger brother and best friend, Luke, has been one of his longest collaborators. Adkins started off by filming Luke’s live music events or making music videos with him, which helped him hone his creative skills.

“He’s a big part of what I do,” Adkins noted. “He helps me with anything musically when it comes to any of my video projects."

So does Gus Cadle, a buddy since the seventh grade.

"We’re just a creative trifecta. It’s been the three amigos for as long as I can remember,” Adkins added.

It's all about storytelling

Adkins' creative energy begins with writing. “I’m just a storyteller; I like to tell stories,” he said.

His short stories are available on Amazon under the name Nicholas Adkins.

“My name is Nicholas Cody. I write under Nicholas Adkins, but I do everything under Cody Adkins when it comes to the videos,” he said.

"I do a little bit of everything," Adkins said. "I’m close to releasing a book of poetry. I’ve spent two years writing a poem — sometimes multiple poems — every day.”

Is the next great American novel on the horizon? He’s been working on his Midwestern tale for eight years. The “big, epic story” takes place in Ohio Valley, West Virginia and Kentucky.

Adkins said he as "a few years' worth" of creative things to share.

Life beyond work

It wasn’t until after Adkins graduated from Mansfield Senior High School that he got together with his now-wife, Diana, also a graduate of Mansfield Senior. He graduated in 2006 while she graduated in 2007.

“We met later in life. I was about 23, she was 22. We’ve been growing strong ever since. I found my soulmate,” he said.

The couple has been married for 10 years and been together for 12. Their love has blessed them with three daughters.

“My oldest daughter is Breyonia, my middle daughter is Sophia and my youngest is Emma,” Adkins said. “It’s a whirlwind ― me and all the women."

“We love to be outside. We hike, camp. We’re an adventurous family," he noted. "We like to travel. We recently just got back from Tennessee."

The unknown road always beckons him.

“I do a lot of traveling. I’ve been to 25 or 30 states,” Adkins said.

Although he has lived in Mansfield his whole life, he said his soul belongs in Sedona, Arizona, but added it's "not in the cards yet."

Adkins' father, Bernie, cheers him on just as he does all of his children. “He’s my biggest fan,” Adkins said. “He loves all his kids, man.”

The time is ripe for Adkins' decades-long work ethic to shine.

“I’ve been making little home videos since I was 10, now here I am living the dream. I’m just full steam ahead at this point,” he explained. “I’ve taken the right steps and I’m on a path that’s leading me into the direction I've always seen myself going."
