Goose Travel Insurance Review 2024
Updated: Jan 8, 2024, 1:42pm
Goose makes buying travel insurance easy with its “self-serve solution” that lets travellers purchase a policy on its app in just a few minutes. With $10 million in medical coverage, no age limits and a unstable pre-existing medical condition add-on, Goose is a solid choice when looking for coverage in case of illness or injury while travelling. The trip protection is a little less robust, with trip cancellation capped at $5,000, no flight or accident coverage, and baggage insurance only available as an upgrade. However, the Cancel For Any Reason add-on is a solid feature.
- Easy quote and purchase via an app
- Generous medical maximum
- Customizable trip benefit limits
- Unstable pre-existing medical condition add-on
- No website interface option
- No all inclusive plan
- Maximum $5,000 trip cancellation
- No flight or travel accident coverage

Here are the key types of travel insurance coverage offered in Goose Travel Insurance plans:
- Emergency medical insurance: If you get ill or are injured on your trip, travel medical insurance can pay for emergency medical expenses, up to the coverage limits in your plan. These expenses can include doctor and hospital bills, medication and lab work, as well as medical evacuations, repatriation and arranging for a bedside companion if you are hospitalized.
- Trip cancellation insurance: If you cancel a trip for a reason listed in your travel policy, such as you or your travelling companion becoming ill, weather conditions cause a massive delay or you lose your job, trip cancellation insurance can reimburse you for prepaid, non-refundable costs.
- Travel interruption or delay insurance: Trip interruption insurance can pay for a last-minute flight home in an emergency and reimburse money that you lose by cutting a trip short due to a covered reason, including non-refundable activities and hotel stays. If your flight is delayed , your insurance can cover the cost of incidentals, such as meals or accommodations, after a specified period of time, such as six, 10 or 12 hours.
- Baggage insurance: Baggage travel insurance can compensate you up to your policy limits if your luggage is lost or stolen. It will reimburse the depreciated value of your suitcases and what you packed. If your bags are delayed, it can reimburse you for the cost of the necessities you’ll have to buy to tide you over. It also extends to your personal belongings, if they are lost, damaged or stolen.

We’ve highlighted the key benefits of Goose Travel Insurance for the three base single trip plans to help you identify which coverage is the best fit for you.
The price of a Goose Travel Insurance plan depends on factors such as the cost of your trip, your age, your answers to a medical questionnaire, if required, and the amount of coverage you choose.
Here are some examples of the cost for Goose Travel Insurance single trip plans for healthy travellers based in Ontario assuming a $0 deductible:
You can also choose a deductible, or the amount you pay out of pocket before your emergency medical coverage kicks in, of $300, $1,000 or $5,000 USD.

To shorten your stability period to seven days, you can purchase the Unstable Pre-existing Medical Condition Coverage as an endorsement to the emergency medical plan.

I purchased a medical policy for travel…
I purchased a medical policy for travel outside of the USA. Goose told me the policy was excellent as it covered up to 1 million in medical expenses and no deductible. I was taking a two week trip to Thailand. I had a great time till the last two days of my trip. I ended up in the ER with an obstructive kidney stone. It required action as it was too large to pass and my kidney was enlarged. Goose has provided NO help with my claims for this event. I was told they would help and they have done nothing. I hope that they will not disappoint me in this matter. If they do provide the help I need to get my claim processed I will revisit my rating. As of now, their customer support is not good.

Excellent COVID coverage
Good customer service in procuring COVID travel insurance from Canada. I would rate higher, but on my 2nd call to them I had to leave a VM, which doesn't leave a good feeling of customer support. After chatting a bit via IM they called me back, and answered all of my questions. They also provided clear policy language so you know what you are getting - just make sure you get the right policy language for the type of insurance you are interested in.

Our Goose Travel Insurance Review
Goose Travel Insurance is a convenient and comprehensive option for travellers seeking extensive coverage with minimal hassle. With up to $10 million in emergency medical coverage and no age limits , Goose is a solid choice. The ability to purchase a policy in less than a minute using the Goose app makes it incredibly user-friendly.
The $10 million Goose travel medical insurance coverage is as high as that of reputed insurers like BCAA travel insurance and more than insurers like Blue Cross travel insurance which offers up to $5 million.
A standout feature is the "Cancel For Any Reason" add-on, providing additional flexibility for trip cancellations . Goose also offers coverage for unstable pre-existing medical conditions through an add-on , making it a valuable option for travellers with health concerns. However, trip cancellation coverage is capped at $5,000 , which might be less than some travellers need. Most insurers in the market offer up to $20,000 like Manulife travel insurance .
Goose Travel Insurance also provides various optional coverages, such as baggage insurance and specific coverage for COVID-19-related issues. While the trip protection features are not as robust as some competitors, the overall ease of purchase and comprehensive medical coverage make Goose a reliable choice for many travellers.

Goose Travel Insurance offers three core plans for travelling outside of Canada, plus an annual COVID-19 insurance plan for travelling within and outside of Canada.
Goose Insurance (https://www.gooseinsurance.com/en/covid-insurance/) seems to cover the required Covid expenses for Thailand Pass, but I can't find any information on it being used by others. Has anyone used it or know if there would be an issue with approval?
I am looking for a good and reliable insurance company for my vehicle and travel and I came across Goose Insurance. According to their app, they offer travel insurance and they are going to offer vehicle insurance soon. Is it worth it to wait until it becomes available or should I look at some other company? Any suggestions?
I see almost consistently bad reviews for Allianz, world nomads, goready, travel insured international, seven corners, AIG, travel guard, geoblue (Anthem), April, etc.
