Solinco Tour Bite 19 String Review

Solinco Tour Bite 19/1.10 String

  • Good durability for thin gauge
  • Less control than thicker gauges

Video Review

Solinco Tour Bite is a co-polyester tennis string with a stiff feel, a square shape and four sharp edges. Launched in 2009, Tour Bite not only became a staple with collegiate level players, but it also helped vault Solinco into a top-tier string brand. With its stiff response, slippery surface and grippy edges, this shaped co-poly specializes in hitting spin-loaded balls that drop hard and hop powerfully off the court. In 2015 Solinco launched an ultra thin 19 gauge version of Tour Bite. At only 1.10mm thick, Tour Bite 19 is one of the thinnest strings on the market. Needless to say, our playtesters were excited to see if this thin gauge could capture the magic of the thicker 16 and 16L gauges they're used to hitting. Not surprisingly, Tour Bite 19 was a spin machine, and it earned an outstanding score for spin. It also proved quite durable, which is impressive considering its thin profile. Compared to the thicker gauges of Tour Bite, our team discovered some extra power and a higher launch angle, which translated into easy depth. The downside of this string's high trajectory was less control. Ultimately, though, for the player who wants a lively co-poly that hits deep, spin-loaded missiles, Tour Bite 19 is a very attractive option.

Solinco Tour Bite 19 String Scores

Control - score: 75 / power - score: 66.

According to our testers, Tour Bite 19 has more power and a higher launch angle than the thicker polyester strings they typically use. On the upside, this string's robust trajectory made it easy to keep the ball deep, which helped when the court situation didn't permit a full cut. However, according to Troy , easy depth has its downsides. He explained, "Tour Bite 19 is livelier than the thicker polys I typically use, and it also gave me added launch off the stringbed. This proved both good and bad depending on the racquet I was using. In the powerful Yonex VCORE SV 98+ I found it harder to control the trajectory and power of Tour Bite 19. I could have increased the tension to get more control, but I didn't want to sacrifice comfort. Putting this string in my Dunlop Srixon Revo CX 2.0 Tour 18x20 was a much better match. Although this 19 gauge string was sliding around a bit more than I would have liked, the power level paired well with this control-oriented player's racquet. Compared to thicker gauges of Tour Bite, I noticed some added pop and easier depth. Ultimately, while Tour Bite 19 might be too lively for a modern player's racquet with an open pattern, it works extremely well in a traditional, low-powered player's racquet."

This string's high launch angle resulted in some slight control problems for Chris , who needed a little extra spin to bring the ball down on schedule. He explained, "I immediately noticed a higher launch angle on my shots with this thin 19 gauge string. With more net clearance came easy access to depth, and that gave the string a more powerful feel compared to the 16 gauge Tour Bite I'm more familiar with. At first I thought the string might be a bit much for my Tecnifibre TFlash 300 PS, but I bumped the tension from 48 to 52 lbs and found more control. Even then, getting depth with this string was never an issue! When it came to control I had great placement when hitting with spin. Flat shots could be a little flighty, and I would miss long if I wasn't careful. Fortunately, Tour Bite 19 is very spin friendly so I was able to control the depth of my shots by adding spin."

Spin - Score: 91

With its ultra thin gauge and sharp teeth, it's not surprising that the highest score for this playtest was awarded for spin. For Chris , Tour Bite's massive spin potential was necessary to pull the ball down from its high trajectory. He said, " Tour Bite 19 proved to be a very, very spin-friendly string. The string more than lived up to its name by offering lots of bite on the ball. My ability to control the high launch angle of the string came primarily from being able to add lots of spin to my shots. I liked the action I got on my slice shots and found I could hit a knifing slice that drove through the court. My topspin shots were kicking up nicely, and I liked the spin I found when hitting angles. The amount of spin I could generate helped me get my touch shots to die quickly."

For Troy , this string's thin profile made it perfect for generating effective spin with a dense string pattern. He explained, "Tour Bite 19 lived up to its name. I found a high level of 'bite' on the ball, which definitely helped with spin. As I mentioned, this string was too lively for my VCORE SV 98+, making it harder for me to swing faster when adding extra spin to my shots. In contrast, I was very pleased with how this thin co-poly boosted the spin potential in the dense stringbed of my Dunlop Srixon Revo CX 2.0 Tour 18x20. Typically with a dense string pattern the spin potential is very much dependent on racquet head speed. Tour Bite 19 helped bring the ball down sharply, which came in handy when trying to hit cross court angles into small spaces. I also found added kick and spin on my serves, with the ball jumping up a bit higher to my opponents. With Tour Bite 19 I could go for higher net clearance and have faith that the ball would land deep within the service box. Although this string can bring added spin potential to any racquet, I found it performed best in a racquet with a dense string pattern."

Comfort - Score: 59

Made primarily from firm polyester, Tour Bite 19 is not supposed to be soft and comfortable. As a result, Troy had to be mindful of string tension. He explained, "Tour Bite 19 felt a tad too stiff when it was strung at 47 lbs in my VCORE SV 98+. After the tension was lowered a couple of pounds this string added a nice level of comfort to the stiff and modern VCORE SV 98+. At this optimal tension Tour Bite 19 was crisp, but it also seemed to stretch more at impact and provide better pocketing than the thicker 16L and 17g versions. I initially strung Tour Bite 19 at 45 lbs in my Dunlop Srixon Revo CX 2.0 Tour 18x20. Although I didn't experience any discomfort, I wasn't getting enough pocketing. After restringing at 42 lbs the comfort level was higher and the extra pocketing at impact was quite delightful."

For Chris , the comfort of Tour Bite 19 varied with stroke speed. He explained, "I found Tour Bite 19 to behave very differently in terms of comfort depending on the pace of play. When I was hitting at a medium pace or less the string played very comfortably. The easy access to depth meant I never had to work hard to hit deep shots. The string also felt like it stretched easier compared to thicker gauge polys, which gave it a comfortable and pocketing type of response. However, once the pace really picked up and the hitting got heavy Tour Bite 19 felt much firmer. It felt like I was maximizing the amount of give the string had, it wouldn't stretch any more and felt very stiff at that point. I imagine someone hitting a bigger ball might be able to shear it by stretching it to the point it breaks. I don't hit that hard, but the string felt like it didn't have much more to give when I was taking a full swing at a heavy incoming ball."

Feel - Score: 80

According to our team, Tour Bite 19 ultimately passed the feel test, which means it provided effective pocketing without being mushy, while also delivering a firm and connected feel without feeling too brassy or dead. In short, the overall feedback was sufficient for hitting. Despite noticing some minor variations in the feel over different stroke speeds, Chris was ultimately satisfied with the way Tour Bite 19 responded at impact. He said, "As mentioned in the comfort section, I thought the string felt soft and lively, but felt decidedly firmer during heavy hitting. Either way, I thought the string offered good feedback, and I felt confident in judging where the ball was going."

By optimizing the tension, Troy was able to get the perfect feel from Tour Bite 19. He said, "When reviewing the 16L version of Tour Bite in 2012 I discovered it to be on the firm side of the spectrum. The firm and crisp feel is something I like and have grown accustomed to over the years. When tensioned correctly, this 19 gauge version of Tour Bite achieves that crisp response while also providing nice levels of elasticity, comfort and ball pocketing."

Playability Duration - Score: 72

The Achilles heel of polyester-based monofilaments is tension loss, and Tour Bite 19 is no exception. By the end of the two-week playtest the overall playability declined and control suffered. To put this in context, it's worth noting that many professional players combat tension loss by changing racquets several times during the course of a single match. It's also worth noting that neither player snapped this co-poly, which is impressive considering its thin gauge. For Troy , this string held its playing characteristics better than the last 19g co-poly he tested, but he did have some issues with string displacement in an open pattern. He explained, "Although this 19 gauge version seemed to drop tension faster than the 16L and 17g versions of Tour Bite, I found that it held up better than the 19g version of Volkl Cyclone. A downside was that it slid around a bit much for my liking, especially in an open string pattern. I had to realign the strings more than I usually have to with co-poly strings."

Impressed with the durability of this thin co-poly, Chris reported average tension maintenance and playability duration. "Tour Bite 19 lasted my requisite two weeks in regards to holding tension well enough to retain playability. I'm also happy to report it didn't break, which was a concern of mine due to how thin it is."

Overall - Score: 74

What type of player would you recommend this to.

Chris - "Those looking for their first poly will find Tour Bite 19 one of the easier polys to adjust to because it offers a closer power level to synthetic gut compared to most thicker gauges of poly. Players looking to open up the response of a tight stringbed will also benefit from this string's attributes."

Troy - "This is a good option for the player looking to reap the benefits of control and massive levels of spin that a thin co-poly can provide, and for players who have played with poly strings before but don't typically break them and want an increase in ball-pocketing and power, and a high level of grip on the ball. This is also a good option for those who want to add easier power, depth and spin to a low-powered racquet with a dense string pattern."

Troy - In my Dunlop Srixon Revo CX 2.0 Tour 18x20 this string provided a boost in spin and ball pocketing, which I hadn't experienced with the other strings I have used in this racquet. There was a noticeable increase in comfort compared to the 16L gauge, which I tested previously."

Chris - "I liked the spin and easy access to depth I got with Tour Bite 19 in my racquets."

Chris - "Feels too firm when the pace picks up."

Troy -"In a powerful racquet, such as the Yonex VCORE SV 98+, Tour Bite 19 added just a bit too much juice for me to feel confident in playing aggressively. A bit too much string movement and realigning of the strings after a point. I would likely settle on the 17 gauge as my go-to. "

Comparing the string to others they've tried, our testers said:

Troy - "This 19 gauge poly is very different for me in that I haven't tried that many of them. Compared to Volkl Cyclone 19, Tour Bite 19 had a firmer/crisper feel and held its tension better over time."

Chris - "As I've found with other thin gauge strings, the launch angle was higher and it was easier to hit with depth with Tour Bite 19 . Other strings to consider with a similar response would be Volkl V-Star 19 and Head Hawk Touch 19. I find the V-Star to be very similar in feel with the Hawk Touch playing a little more controlled."

solinco tour bite recommended tension

Solinco tells us that Tour Bite is a newly developed, high-performance, and versatile monofilament co-polyester string designed to generate extreme power, and intense spin and bite.

According to Solinco, Tour Bite uses an innovative, proprietary composite formula of high-tech polyester resin compounded with new, performance enhancing additives. The distinct composition and make-up of Solinco's co-polyester strings provide the basis for their unique feel and playing characteristics.

Solinco says its co-polyester strings use the most innovative and cutting-edge engineering procedures that involve the mastering of three or more separate heating and cooling stages. Each distinct stage is carefully executed at specifically designed temperatures, durations, and with specialized extrusion techniques and molds to improve specific playing characteristics of each string. Solinco even matches the material with the shape of the string for maximum performance.

Solinco tells us its strings are quickly gaining popularity. Solinco is the official string of the 2005 NCAA Champion UCLA Men's Tennis Team, the 2006 NCAA Champion Pepperdine Men's Tennis Team, Virginia Tech Men's Tennis Team, and East Tennessee State University. Touring pros such as Kevin Kim, Lester Cook, Cecil Mamiit, and Leonardo Tavares have also adopted Solinco.

It is recommended for competitive and performance-focused players demanding the absolute highest levels of spin, bite, power, and control.

Tour Bite is available in 16, 16L, 17, and 18 gauges in silver only. It is priced from $11.50 for 40-foot sets, $155 for 656-foot reels. For more information or to order, email Solinco sales at [email protected], or visit solincosports.com.

We tested both the 17 and 18 gauges of Tour Bite. The coils measured 40 feet. We recorded stringbed stiffness immediately after stringing at 60 pounds in a Wilson Pro Staff 6.1 95 (16 x 18 pattern) on a constant-pull machine. We remeasured after 24 hours (no playing) for tension loss, as shown in the table. Our control string, Prince Synthetic Gut Original Gold 16, measured 78 RDC units immediately after stringing and 71 RDC units after 24 hours, representing a 9 percent tension loss.

The string was tested for five weeks by USRSA playtesters with NTRP ratings from 3.5 to 6.0. These are blind tests, with playtesters receiving unmarked strings in unmarked packages. We did advise playtesters to reduce tension by 7-12 percent compared to nylon, as recommended by Solinco.

Tour Bite seems more ornery to handle than other polys, but only a little. We had more problems weaving the last crosses than we did with coil memory.

On the court

Solinco made it a good day to be a USRSA string tester. Tour Bite 17 finished with an incredible seven ratings of well above average in Playability, Durability, Power, Control, Spin Potential, Tension Retention, and Resistance to Movement. Of these, the results for Spin Potential make Tour Bite 17 the best string we've ever tested for Spin Potential. To back that up, Tour Bite 17 also came in 13th best in the Power category and 15th best for Resistance to Movement. The overall score for Tour Bite 17 was well above average.

Shhhh, It’s a Secret! Solinco Confidential String Review

Solinco Confidential Tennis String Set

Feel / Comfort

My first few swings with Confidential were incredibly firm and had a dead feeling, similar to Tour Bite. This was pretty shocking to me as my racquet was strung at 47 pounds. I was just about to write off Confidential as another version of Tour Bite, when after about an hour of hitting, the strings seemingly “unlocked” their potential. The feel softened enough to be more comfortable, but still maintained the control that Solinco is known for. Note: Solinco suggests the best tension range to be 45-50 pounds, and if possible, after stringing give the strings a day to settle for a more consistent response.

Power / Spin

Lately, I have gravitated towards lower tensions with polyester strings. I used to be in the low to mid 50 pound range, but now I am more comfortable just under 50 pounds. The main drawback when playing lower tensions is fast tension loss. In my opinion, Confidential separates itself from the multitude of polyester strings because it maintains tension well even on the lower end. Solinco Confidential played more powerful than Tour Bite, and slightly less powerful than Hyper-G. I am happy to report the string’s slightly pentagonal shape produces a solid amount of topspin on groundstrokes, and it was explosive enough that I enjoyed hitting through the court on put-away shots.

Confidential slides against itself well, and despite its fairly-sharp profile, it doesn’t notch prematurely. For my playtest, I sampled the 18g version in a dense 18 x 20 pattern, and even after several hours the performance was striking. After a short break-in period, the play-ability of Confidential lasts longer than the average polyester by a long shot.

I think I found the Solinco string for me! Confidential offers a controlled, and more comfortable response than the famous Tour Bite. Those who thought Hyper-G was too mushy, would really enjoy the middle ground Confidential provides. I had great success with a lower tension, but don’t write off stringing at a higher tension. One of our playtesters, Max Ziegler , strung much tighter and had good results as well.

Max says “It felt really good! The strings felt much softer, pretty comfortable, and not as stiff as Alu Power. Definitely got more depth to my shots with less effort so overall I’d say a bit more powerful than Alu Power. If I would have to compare it I’d probably say it was somewhere in the middle between LXN Smart and Alu Power. I strung it at 55 lbs (2 lbs less than I usually do) in my Wilson Blade 98 CV 18 x 20.”

Chris Virk-Brown echoed positive vibes about Confidential as well.

Chris states “I have played with Solinco Hyper-G and Tour Bite before, so I was very excited to try out Confidential especially given its unique characteristics. Right out the gate I found it to be on the crisp side with very little give, not much free power or spin. However, it didn’t take long for the string bed to settle in and quickly adapt to my game. Over time, the spin and power levels increased allowing me to hit the ball deep into the court, but I found it to start loosing the crisp feel that I enjoyed. Also I loved the sound the ball made when it hit off the string bed. It gives you a nice “pop” sound that makes you feel like you’re a pro. Overall, it was a great co-poly string that I could certainly see myself playing with for years to come. I strung Confidential at 48 lbs in my Wilson Ultra 100 CV Reverse.”

Solinco Confidential String Review

solinco tour bite recommended tension

Solinco has been hard at work for a few years on a new string, and it has finally been released. Here is my Solinco Confidential string review.

Solinco  is an American company behind some highly popular polyester strings. They are more known for their control-oriented and spin-friendly poly strings such as  Solinco Tour Bite  and  Solinco Hyper-G  (click for my review), but they also make tennis racquets and multifilament strings.

You can check out Solinco Confidential from my friends at Tennis Warehouse , Tennis Warehouse Europe and Tennis Only .

I have enjoyed both Tour Bite, Tour Bite Soft, and Hyper-G and was very curious about their new poly, Confidential. Like their other flagship strings, it is a stiffer poly string with an emphasis on control, tension maintenance, and spin generation. I strung it up in my  HEAD Graphene 360+ Prestige Mid  and Prince Phantom 100X 305 for this Solinco Confidential string review.

Solinco Confidential Characteristics

solinco tour bite recommended tension

I want to point out that this string is not for beginners or lower-level intermediate players. This string is all about control, so players who are just starting out would be better off with a softer string with a more powerful response.

Gauge : I tested Solinco Confidential in 1.25 gauge ( I have later tested it in a 1.20 gauge and prefer that!)

Stiffness:  The string is somewhere between Tour Bite and Hyper-G. Softer than Tour Bite, but a bit stiffer than Hyper-G.

Player: More advanced players with full strokes and no arm issues. If you like to hit big, this is the string for you.

Test Racquets: I chose a crisper midsize (Prestige Mid) and a softer 100 sq inch racquet (Phantom 100X) to be able to understand what the string does in different racquets.

Profile: 4-sided

Color:  I think it is called gun-metal gray.

Installation: Pretty normal for a stiffer poly. Quite a sharp string so watch your fingers :)

Tensions: 50 lbs in the Prestige Mid and 52 lbs in the Phantom 100X

Tension maintenance: After settling in after 1-2 hours, this string holds tension and playability extremely well. Top marks.

How does it play?

My first hour with Solinco Confidential was not great. I thought the string felt stiff and board-like. But after the first hour, the string had settled in and some of the stiffness had gone, and I started to see it differently. It did not take me long to understand that this is another high-quality string from Solinco. It was not harsh on the arm, and I felt like it rewarded you for going after the ball. The spin potential is excellent, but I think the control aspect is even better. It could have been named “Solinco Confidence” instead of Confidential.

At first, I was worried about the stiffness of the string, especially considering my recent arm issues (which are now much better thanks to rehab and regular  Flexbar  exercises). However, once it settled, it was quite comfortable. I still would not recommend it if you are worried about wrist or elbow pain. Then you should do rehab, rest, and play with a multifilament or gut string.

solinco tour bite recommended tension

I found control and tension maintenance to be the outstanding features of this string. If you are a string breaker or string abuser – you will definitely enjoy it. Tour Bite offers a bit more spin, but they are quite close in generating spin, and the added comfort of Confidential is a winner.

If you like to rip the ball and want a string that is durable, control-oriented, and spin-friendly without breaking your arm – Solinco Confidential is a good option. It is not a soft poly, though, but relatively comfortable for a stiff, controlled string. I have not tried it in a hybrid setup, but that could be an interesting idea if you want a softer feel.

I think I still hold Hyper-G as my favorite Solinco string, but for more powerful racquets with an open pattern, this is high on my list. Let us say you are using a Clash Tour that makes your string move like crazy; then, I think this string could come in handy!

Have you tried Solinco Confidential? What did you think about it?

Have you tried to full line of Solinco? I have used the Hyper G at 16 and 17 and prefer the 17 by a bit. I’m very intrigued by the revolution and wanted to know if you’ve tried it and what you think of it. Great work as always and keep it up!!!

I haven’t tried all Solinco strings, but the main ones except for Revolution :( Hopefully soon. Thanks!

Hi Jonas I usually play on clay courts. But my game is focused on flat balls. I´m trying to change to more spin balls. I use a Blade 98 2015 18×20. Do you think I should change the string or the racquet (to a more spin friendly)? Or tecnique rules in this case? Regars.

Hi, I think technique is the main answer, but sometimes a more spin-friendly frame will help you change your technique a bit. Perhaps you can try the Clash 98 if you want a bit more free spin.

Otherwise, you can stay with your racquet and work on your technique. The Blade 98 2015 is a nice stick! Regards / J

Confidentially, I can tell you that my arm is probably too sensitive for this stuff. But what I would like to know is what do you think of the 100X?

I understand! It is not an “arm-friendly” string. Review coming up for the 100X. A very nice racquet. Regards / J

? very interesting model by characteristics is New Prince Phantom 97P. Flexible, nice weight, and open string pattern. It would be nice to read review about it.

I have tried a number of the Solinco strings: – Hyper G is my clear favorite, which I have tried in 16, 16L and 17 depending the string patterns. Has great spin, great control, and plays a bit dead (not a lot of feedback), which I like. It is also fairly comfortable for a poly. Much more so than Luxilon 4G or Tour Bite, which are noticeably firmer – Tour Bite, I have only used a 16L in a Prince Classic Graphite 100, where I was still adjusting to the increased power level vs. the 93 / 95 sq. in. frames I was used to. So my feedback needs to be seen in light of this adjustment. I found the level of power substantially higher than the Hyper G, to the point where I could hardly control the ball. Everything was flying long by one meter vs. Hyper G, and it is also much livelier. The ball would launch from the string bed, and I would have no idea where it was going. Really not a string for me, but if one looks for a powerful poly, I can see how it can work – Revolution, I played in a 17 gauge in a Phantom 93P 18×20. It has very good spin, similar to Hyper G, but plays even more dead, to the point where I had no feel at all. It also seems to be heavier than Hyper G, for some reason, by 2-3g vs. Hyper G 17. Durability was very good, slightly superior to Hyper G, but the lack of feel was a real issue

How does it compare to Tour Bite Soft?

It is much stiffer than Tour Bite Soft. But in turn, offers better durability and control.

I am thinking about this option to put in my Wilson Pro Staff 97 version of 315grams. With 23.5kg / 24kg. Which other string option do you recommend? I am a player who likes power and control. I have a game “very similar“ to Pete Sampras.

I have now tried Confidential, in a 16 gauge in my Prince Classic Graphite 100 at 52lbs, coming from Hyper G 16 at 52lbs as my normal setup.

I find it more predictable than Hyper G, with similar characteristics in the spin and power department. It isn’t “mushy, like the Hyper G is, meaning it’s a bit firmer, but nowhere near Tour Bite in my book. It’s still comfortable, at least in a plush frame like the PCG 100.

Overall, it’s the best Solinco string I have played with, and I am now switching to it for the foreseeable future.

hi, I am planning to use Babolat Touch Tonic in the mains and Solinco Confidential 16L in the crosses. Do you think it’s a good combination? If yes, what tensions do you recommend?

Yeah, that sounds pretty good. It depends on a lot of things, but I would go 56 lbs on the Tonic and 54 lbs on the Confidential.

If you compare it with YTEX-Quadro, what would you say?

I haven’t tried Ytex Quadro properly – need to revisit that string to compare.

This string is actually five-sided and not four-sided… I checked under 30x magnification.

i use solinco hyper g soft

Hi, I’ve tried the confidential and I am in love with it. Great control and feel, and feels pretty dead which I like. I really got the sense of direction on my shots and all of my shots are going in. Both flat serves and kick serves are amazing, I feel like I really can control the direction and extra kick.

I’ve been thinking of hybriding the confidential and black widow. I’ve tried the black widow, I love it too. I found the spin the generation is better, however tension maintanance is not as good as the confidential.

Do you think it would be a good idea of the the confidential-black widow hybrid? I would really appreciate your thoughts.

Tried this as a replacement for Head Lynx Touch on a Head Radical MP. Will be cutting it out this week. I wanted to like it but it is terrible on the arm. My elbow and shoulder felt it after the first session to break it in, but it was even worse on the second day. It does generate a ton of spin and I could easily target my shots where I wanted them. It felt lower on the power scale than the Head string but not significant. But overall it wasn’t worth the abuse on my joints to get mildly better performance. I will continue to look for the perfect balance of control power and comfort.

Have you ever tried the tecnifibre 4s?? Wondering how it compares to confidential

I have not tried it, sadly.

Solinco Hyper-G Review

Solinco Hyper-G is one of the most vivid looking polyester strings to hit the market in recent years!

Developed alongside touring pros to get the best possible playability, this string is a square-profiled co-poly that promises exceptional control and feel.

I (Tom) was excited to give this one a try, partly because I knew it was going to look awesome in my all black Wilson Pro Staff!

Once I’d strung it, it sure did look great; the cool black frame accentuating the vivid green hues of the string.

Aside from aesthetics, which aren’t all that important when it comes to getting a ball in the court, I had also heard some awesome things about Solinco.

Their name isn’t as mainstream as companies such as Babolat and Wilson, but their best-selling string, Tour Bite, is truly superb, so I was eager to get going with the Hyper-G Playtest.

From my research, I was expecting a crisp response from the string bed and a pleasing blend of power and control.

Let’s see how the playtest went…

6 out of 10

6 out of 10 for my power rating is exactly where I want a polyester to be.

A co-poly that is too elastic is just plain irritating – often they lose tension quickly and have an exaggerated trampoline effect right from the go.

When I’m using a polyester string, I want to know the ball isn’t going to fly on me and that it’s going to dive down inside the baseline.

Conversely, I don’t like my polys to be too dead, like Luxilon Big Banger Original.

Don’t get me wrong, some players will love this feel (our big man Will from TheTennisBros.com) – it just isn’t for me.

Solinco Hyper-G  really delivered on the power aspect for me. It wasn’t super dead or lively as far as polyester strings go.

I’d say it offered similar power to RPM Blast (my favourite polyester of all time) in terms of raw mph.

Similarly to RPM Blast, I also found Hyper-G gave me access to a hidden power level once I accelerated faster through my strokes.

Some strings I’ve played with don’t respond quite as well (this is neither good or bad) when you increase your swing speed, but I felt there was a good correlation between what I was putting in and getting out with Hyper-G.

On serve, there was enough pop available to me to get the job done.

Those that have read some of my other reviews will know that I normally prefer to string a hybrid, with natural gut in my main strings to complement my control-orientated racket.

However, I felt I would be happy using this string in a full bed if I had to. I’ve found this rule of thumb to be useful to me evaluating strings in the past when creating reviews.

For me to be comfortable using this full bed of poly in a racket like mine really pays testament to the superb qualities of Solinco Hyper-G.

8 out of 10

Control came in spades with Hyper-G. On the playtest day, we were indoors.

It’s always pleasing to create something of a sonic boom in this environment; the echo can be phenomenal for your ego!

So, I went for a little more on the forehand side just to push the string’s boundaries and to see how it responded to greater racket head speed.

I was delighted to see my forehands dipping inside the baseline rather than sailing long and I felt very dialled into my targets on court.

As I was playing, I remember thinking, “this has to be a 9 out of 10”!

Although I love to use natural gut, I also love the crisp more deadened feel of a poly and the sensation of ultimate control it can bring to your game in a full bed.

Hyper-G certainly delivered the goods on this front, as I tapped into pinpoint precision on volleys and a peace of mind that the ball wasn’t going to trampoline on me during groundstrokes on serve.

In comparison to Solinco’s most popular string, Tour Bite,  Hyper-G  is probably on the softer side of the polyester spectrum with its increased ball pocketing capabilities.

We’ll get on to touch a little later, but the thing that impressed me the most was that I didn’t notice any loss in control that so often happens with these more pocketing polyesters.

That was truly a joy to experience!

I’ve compared Hyper-G to RPM Blast a little already in this review, so I’ll keep going a little with that train of thought! Like RPM Blast, this string also had exceptional levels of spin.

The square profile of the string is an interesting choice of shape in today’s game; many strings often being more extravagantly shaped into hexagonal or octagonal profiles.

It would be interesting to see if there are any readily available research studies between the various shape profiles, but we don’t often come across square strings.

They certainly work though!

For me, swinging with a polyester string is all about knowing the ball is going to stay in the court when I turn on the gas.

I often see a lot of lower level club players stringing poly who don’t have a lot of natural power and know they would be far better off with a multifilament string or natural gut.

But often, they won’t have had a say.

When they broke their last set of strings in their racket, they would have handed their racket to their local stringer and just asked them to string it without specifying type or tension.

Their lack of equipment knowledge limits them here, as a stringer will just put in a poly as default these days, such are the popularity of the strings.

If you don’t produce a lot of your own power and spin, then I would leave this review now and go and check out Babolat VS Team.

However, if you do, you’re going to love  Solinco Hyper-G  either in a full bed setup or a hybrid setup.

I particularly enjoyed the biting sensation of Hyper-G, as the strings gripped the ball, shooting it away with an insane number of RPMs.

Slices carved, and top spins kicked; pressing my opponent deep behind the court and allowing me to step in and eat up the point.

The high levels of spin this string gave me access to encouraged me to take big swings at the ball without me worrying about the ball flying long.

For me, there’s nothing more annoying in tennis than feeling like you connect with a shot well and have it fly on you.

I never had this sensation with Hyper-G.

7 out of 10

Solinco Hyper-G was hands down one of the most comfortable, pocketing polyester strings I’ve ever played with.

I mentioned earlier about the slight give in the string that is so rare with polys these days, but it was great to play with. I felt the ball pocketing aspect positively enhanced my touch and gave me greater confidence at the net.

In my own game, I don’t spend all that much time at the net – I’m working on it! I’m the shortest out of TheTennisBros.

At 5’9, I still have good pop on the serve, but serve-volleying isn’t really my thing and I don’t often come into the net from a baseline rally unless I have to.

Players on the tour with similar physical attributes to myself seem to be baseline grinders and only come in occasionally.

However, they are also very capable at the net, whereas at the date of writing this article, it’s something I’m developing.

Hyper-G definitely gave me greater confidence in this.

The controlled, pocketing effect of the string bed helped me to find excellent directional control; further enhancing the stability and effect of my Wilson RF 97 racket.

If you’re looking for an exceptionally comfortable string, definitely don’t go with a polyester.

Check out our range of articles on multifilaments/ synthetic guts and natural guts if you want that.

However, as far as polyester strings go, you don’t get much more comfortable than  Solinco Hyper G !

7/10 really is top notch for a poly.

One of my most desirable aspects for durability is tension maintenance.

I won’t name and shame in this article, but I’ve played with polyester strings in the past that literally became a trampoline after one hit.

I’m not as rich as Roger Federer, so I can’t afford to string my tennis racket, or several for that matter, every day!

I’ve just accepted now that strings don’t last long, but I would at least hope to get at least get a few decent hits in before the string’s tension dropped off to the extent where it was no longer playable.

Solinco Hyper-G had a good level of tension maintenance and it was several hits before the tension dropped away before the string broke.

It’s definitely one of the better polyester strings when it comes to tension maintenance.

So, for you big hitters out there, that are perhaps on more of a budget when it comes to stringing regularly, Solinco Hyper-G would make a great choice.

Solinco Hyper-G  is one of the most playable, pocketing polyesters that we have ever tried.

It contains a delightful combination of power, control and spin and I was really impressed by the string’s tension maintenance and all-round feel from anywhere in the court.

This shouldn’t be something I should really be commenting upon, but I absolutely loved the colour!

It might not be to everyone’s taste, but I certainly thought it looked pretty tasty in my black, Wilson Pro Staff.

It was also very interesting to try a square-shaped string, as opposed to the abundance of multi-sided shaped profiled strings out there.

I did not feel this negatively affected spin potential in any way or even its lifespan for that matter.

If you love a polyester string and are a fan of the Luxilon and Babolat range, you must try this string and see what it can do for your game.

Solinco aren’t quite as popular in the media as these “big gun” brands, but they certainly don’t fall short in quality.

Tour Bite 17 Review The Setup: Solinco Tour Bite 17 /Gosen OG Micro Sheep 17 (53/56) In a Pure Storm LTD (non-GT version) The reason i strung it up with the Og micro sheep is because that is the cross string ive been using now for a year. The other polys ive used with this string are Ashway Monogut 17, Pro Hurricane Tour 16, ALU power 17, tecnifibre spinfire 17, and iso-speed baseline 17 (all strung at similar tensions). Hitting Time I got in 4 different hitting sessions totaling 6.5 hrs. Playing Characteristics Power - 9/10 Control - 10/10 Feel - 8/10 Comfort - 9/10 Spin - 10/10 String Movement - 10/10 Impressions -The string felt just a little too stiff (but not harsh on the arm) so i will string a few lbs. lower next time. -the control of the string was simply amazing(more than ive felt with any other string), i could swing as hard as i could and the string would still land in (probably much due to the texture of the string). -I just recently switched from a Pure Storm Tour to the Pure Storm Limited, after switching i felt a big loss in spin because the PST is a 16x19 and the PSL is a 18x20. While using tour bite 17 in the mains i am getting so much spin and bite on the ball that it almost seems like im using a 16x19 sting pattern again except with all the control of a 18x20. (this is very important because this is the main reason why i bought this string...to make up for the spin loss from switching to an 18x20). -In terms of the feels of the string i would say that it is most comparable to BB ALU power (although i think Big Banger is overrated and i like Tour Bite better). I havent hit with BB ALU spin, but i would guess that its most comparable to that because of the shape of the string is like the same. -The texture of the spin is a polygon and it is very rough to the touch. After about 2 hrs the texture wears down a little bit but still produces crazy amounts of spin. -I am very happy with the string and I'd say that i had my best hitting session ever with this string. -I was able to compare it side by side to a hybrid of Pro Hurricane Tour/ OG Micro Sheep. I like the Tour bite better by far. The only area where PHT is better is in Comfort; the string feels a little softer/little less stiff. But in all other areas, especially spin, the Tour Bite far exceeds PHT. -String has not broken after 6.5 hrs and i dont expects it to very soon. I was worried the sharp texture would wear through my crosses but i havent even noted any notches in the cross string yet. btw, i may play d3 tennis this coming school year...i'd guess im a 5.0

btw i will most likely try out power pads next time for added comfort and power

I keep hearing a lot of good things about the Tour Bite string here in so cali and will look into getting a hold of some once I finish playtesting a few other strings that I've already bought. • Mar 30, 2010
mcshift said: No i havent, i only have 17gauge, but i would assume the playing characteristics would change just as any other poly would. I have only played with ALU power but i'm a stringer at a tennis shop so i know the texture of ALU rough and what it feels like... so based on what it feels like heres my guess... Tour bite's polygonal shape should provide more spin (same shape as ALU power spin) than ALU rough at first for a while but ALU rough should maintain its texture better against wearing down. I am guessing that tour bite would give more spin because it simply makes sense that the polygonal shape would bite into the ball better than the rivvets in ALU rough, plus in reading reviews of ALU rough it seems that people arent amazed by the spin potential while all reviews of Tour Bite have been absolutely amazed by the spin. also i would guess that tour bite would have better durability, expecially since stringing ALU rough can really beat-up the crosses when pulling/tensioning the mains. Hey mcshift, I was wondering what would you consider "stiff"? Would stringing say, alu power at 60lbs be considered stiff for you? also, in terms of stiffness, how would it compare to alu power?

mcshift said: Well you bring up a good point cause in ratings its all relative to a persons personal opinion. Yes i would consider ALU at 60lbs stiff as i typically string between 47 and 53. I mean, i prefer a pretty mushy/soft feeling stringbed/ racquet and that is why i only hybrid my polys with OG micro sheep and i use the pure storm limited which is a very soft/fexy frame. In terms of stiffness i would say theyre almost identical, honestly i didnt get to hit with the ALU power hybrid for more than like 4 hrs, but from what i could tell they are very similar, although i do like Tour Bite better... hope that all made sense Click to expand...

I currently have Tour Bite strung up in one of my PT57A sticks @ 48lbs and crossed with Gosen Micro @ 51 lbs. IMHO, there is not anything exceptional about this string. It does not dramatically increase spin potential. Don't get me wrong, it is not a bad string, but it is nothing that amazing either.

genius24

I'm surprised to see a thread on this forum about Solinco strings. I got a few packs of the tour bite from a friend and didn't know that it was so widely available. From my personal experience thus far, I thought it was a great string....provided pretty crazy spin and overall had good playability and tension maintenance. The packaging was pretty sweet as well. I use pro hurricane tour, but found this to be a better all around string (not to say the pro hurricane isnt a good string as well). im looking to get a couple of reels for a good deal. mcshift could you please send me a contact info as well. thanks.

also curious to see what people thought of the Revolution. never tried it, but im thinking of ordering a pack to test it out when i get my reels of Tour Bite.

ctennisam94

I recently just ordered Revolution and tru feel. I bought two reels yesterday. I didn't like tour bite as much as Revolution. I pretty much got the same exact deal as mcshift.

I was given some sets of Tour Bite and a hybrid pack last Summer. After putting it in one of my racquets and a buddy's racquet, we both agreed it was good string but not any better than the poly I've been using for awhile (CF, CB). It seemed to lose some of the "cupping" a little faster than CF.

WOW! so i had a chance to try out the Tour bite again this weekend and it was AWESOME. much better than i had remembered playing with it a while ago! AMAZING BITE! great control and feel. period. I played with it full bed, strung at 51lbs for about 2 hrs. Overall very very impressed! Will need to play with it a bit more to see how it holds up, and if spin potential continues and check on tension loss. Will provide further feedback if i can get out to the courts later today (its very windy and kind of cold out here though!)

Weather has been beautiful and was able to make it out on the courts to play with the Tour Bite again. * BITE BITE BITE!! - balls really gripping onto these strings!! Noticed I'm tearing the ball to pieces…fur flying everywhere (poor tennis balls)...action on the ball is just ridiculous. Would describe the feeling as the ball being held for a split second in the stringbed as the edges dig into the ball and then as you follow-through and brush up on the ball it just creates enormous spin..Although I have noticed the edges are wearing down a little, can't really tell difference on performance or spin yet. * Tension - holding very well! Need to wait a little bit longer to know for sure, but after being strung for several days and through 2 sessions its holding tension great…better than Lux (although not saying much, that’s what I've been using) * Stringing tension observation- I realized that although I thought this string was good the first time I played it months ago, didn't have the great experience I'm having now…. I think it has to do with the tension I strung it at. I strung it probably 4 lbs or so looser than what I normally string lux alu at and its definitely playing better OVERALL: Continue to be very impressed with the string...I still have some lux left, but may be switching to this thereafter. Before I really consider switching the string will need to hold up in match play- string will need to perform through that

When I first took it out for a hit, I was amazed at how rough the texture was. It took a bit of time to break in, it was quite stiff at first, but after 5 mins it was great. Spin potential is better than Blue Gear+ MSV HEx Put together. Crazy. I made someone fall backwards! The texture is not so Rough now, it is starting to deaden but has all it's control and power. Spin is still good, lasting longer than I thought, it's gonna break soon tho GET ME MORE!!!!!!!!! Click to expand...

it sounds interesting. Anyone else had same opinion about this string? i am thinking of getting it.

so i was able to try out the revolution (17g) for the first time this past weekend... i absolutely loved it. personally, i liked it even better than the tour bite. the revolution provided me with more than enough spin (def not as much bite as the tour bite tho) while providing me with more control and consistency. In terms of power, i thought it was similar to the tour bite. i also loved how it provided great feel. after using the revolution for almost 12 hrs (on 4 different days), there wasn't any noticeable loss in tension. i am a huge fan of the solinco revolution and will be using it going forward (was using pro hurricane tour until now) for sure. solinco is the new hot thing!!!! mcshift- thanks for their direct contact info.

mcshift said: I just switched 2 months ago. The reason i came to switching was because i have been using a 4 3/8 grip size when i need a 4 1/2 so i was gonna but new PST's off the forum. I decided that since ill be selling mine i sould try out a few other racquets to be sure i want to stick with it... MicroGel prestige pro=didnt like it all that much, but still pretty good. Then i came to the PSL, always wanted to try it out cause the specs seemed perfect compared to the PST...a little more head light, slightly smaller head, thinner beam. All seemed perfect except for the 18x20 string pattern which are not my favorite due to the loss of spin. But i gave it a try anyways and i loved it... Sure i did lose spin but the amazing control seemed to make up for it. And that is why i came to getting a reel of tour bit...for the extra spin. oh hah i forgot that i actually created a post reviewing my switch to the PSL http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=310855 review starts at post #20 btw if your even thinking about it switching...the non GT limited is a lot better than the Gt version. The Gt takes away all the feel and just feels dead and harsh. Click to expand...
jaydubbs15 said: Great, thank you. Do you think that your string set up would work with the PST? If not, what would you recommend for the PST (perhaps to tame its power)? Do you think that the Solinco mains will lessen the life of the Gosen crosses because of its rough edges? Click to expand...

i am realy interested in trying, which one is the best of the 3 polys? of should i get the hyrbid? and how much is each set?

mcshift said: I think the Tour Bite would be awesome with the PST...insane spin! I havent tried a fully string job of the tour bite...only a hybrid with micro sheep. No, i havent noticed any notching or excess wear on the gosen string, surprisingly. But i would assume with any other synthetic or muti for there to be a lot of wear due to the texture of the string. But yeah, thats just another amazing thing about og micro sheep, it has amazing durability... but if your looking to buy another PST im selling one in 4 3/8 grip size for $65 shipped 7.5/10. Btw as far as power goes, if your looking for a lower powered racquet the PSL is a little less powered. I mean when you really hit the ball the power is just fine but you really need to swing through on your groundstrokes or the ball may go short. Also i would string the PSL a little lower than the PST due to the head size/ string pattern. Next time im stringing it up with revolution at like 40lbs. Sure thats a big drop in tension but i was reading the thread chris from TT posted about stringing low at like 30lbs and i was intrigued enough that im gonna drop mine a bit... Click to expand...

  1. Solinco Tour Bite tension

The Tour Bite seems to offer the best spin according to the String Finder (for a 1.30 gauge). ... But honestly I wouldn't raise tension for Tour Bite that much. It's already pretty stiff. V. vamos_rafa0113 New User. Dec 21, 2014 #10 ... I tried and liked the Solinco Tour Bite 1.30 at 50.7 lbs on my Head Speed MP. The problem is that my balls ...

Solinco Tour Bite is a firm co-polyester designed for advanced players who demand the ultimate in control, durability and spin. Boasting a square profile with sharp edges, it is ideal for aggressive topspin players who like to rip the felt off the ball. This explains why Tour Bite has a growing following at the collegiate level, and it also ...

  3. Solinco Tour Bite String Review

Here is my Solinco Tour Bite string review that deals with both Tour Bite and Tour Bite Soft strings. Solinco Tour Bite is used by a lot of players on the ATP and WTA tours. It is a spin-friendly and control-oriented string that does exactly what it says it does: it gives extra bite and rotations on the ball. I have been using Solinco Tour Bite ...

  4. Solinco Tour Bite: Should I hybrid? What tension?

Played with 16LTour bit and found it very stiff - stiffer than Lux Alu. I would seriously consider stringing on the lower end of your racket's tension range. IMHO - I wouldn't hybrid it with a multi/synth gut as it would eat through pretty fast. Actually, I find that it doesn't eat through the multi at all.

  5. Tennis Warehouse

Not surprisingly, Tour Bite 19 was a spin ...

  7. Solinco Tour Bite 16L Tennis String Review

It has definitely lost some tension over the course of the two and-a-half weeks I've used it, but the tension loss doesn't seem drastic at all when compared to a racquet that's been freshly strung at the same tension. Personally, I think Solinco Tour Bite 16L is an excellent string that belongs near the top of the polyester pile—especially ...

  9. Solinco String Comparison

Solinco Tour Bite Soft is also a good option for players who don't want to go for a stiff poly. It's a bit more controlled and dead than Hyper-G Soft, but still pretty soft on the arm. Confidential is another story. It's not a harsh string, but definitely more focused on tension maintenance (softer strings drop tension quicker) and control.

  10. Solinco Tour Bite Soft Review

Solinco is well known for great strings such as Solinco Hyper G and they enjoy a great reputation throughout the tennis world. As performance goes, we really rated the Solinco Hyper-G and we would certainly recommend it to anyone. However, for those players who seek a little bit more comfort, Solinco Tour Bite Soft might represent a better option.

  13. Solinco Tour Bite 19 Review- What are your thoughts about the string?

Nov 20, 2013. #1. I'm a 26 year old 4.0-4.5 level USTA league player that hits with a lot of spin and a rather consistent kick serve. This string is perfect for enhancing the amount of spin while serving. My groundies have excellent topspin and depth into the court. I have Tour Bite 19g strung at 48lbs in my Flexpoint Prestige MPs.

  14. Shhhh, It's a Secret! Solinco Confidential String Review

The makers of the popular Tour Bite and Hyper-G tennis strings maintain the pentagonal shape of the latter for spin generation. 15. Solinco Confidential String Review

Gauge: I tested Solinco Confidential in 1.25 gauge ( I have later tested it in a 1.20 gauge and prefer that!) Stiffness: The string is somewhere between Tour Bite and Hyper-G. Softer than Tour Bite, but a bit stiffer than Hyper-G. Player: More advanced players with full strokes and no arm issues.

  16. What is the best gauge for Solinco Tour Bite?

It is generally accepted that the trend for tension maintenance in regards to gauge of the string is: the thinner the string, the less tension maintenance. Having tried all of the gauges of tour bite multiple times, The 1.30 mm has the most control and is the most durable. It retains its original playing characteristics and tension the longest.

  17. Solinco Hyper-G Review

Solinco Hyper-G is one of the most vivid looking polyester strings to hit the market in recent years!
