“Visas for Canada, UK”: How brother-sister travel agent duo duped people including Punjab Police cop on CM Security

A brother-sister duo from Punjab, both travel agents, were arrested for allegedly duping several persons of crores on the pretext of sending them to the UK and Canada, including a woman police officer from Mohali, who is a member of the chief minister’s security team, Ludhiana police said Friday.

Police said Rs 1.07 crore in cash was seized from their possession which they allegedly collected from victims on the pretext of arranging their visas.

In her complaint submitted to Ludhiana police in May this year, Senior Constable Ravneet Kaur from Mohali stated that her brother and his wife were duped of Rs 14.30 lakh by Dugri residents Amit Malhotra, 39, and his sister Veenu Malhotra, the owners of Global Way Immigration at Ishmeet Singh Chowk in Ludhiana.

According to the FIR registered at the Model Town police station, Ravneet Kaur stated, “I am posted with the CM’s security team. My brother Jagdeep Singh and his wife Sukhvir Kaur wanted to move to the UK and had paid Rs 14.30 lakh to the Ludhiana firm in 2020 to arrange visas for them. However, the firm adopted dilly-dallying tactics and made them wait for four years on one pretext or the other. The firm neither arranged their visas nor returned them their money.”

After a thorough probe, an FIR was registered against the duo on September 4 under the sections 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (as the crime reportedly took place in 2020) and section 24 of the Immigration Act at the Model Town police and then the brother-sister duo was arrested, police said.

Police said the prima facie probe revealed the siblings duped several people to the tune of crores of rupees, and further investigation was being conducted.

Additional DCP Zone-3 Shubham Aggarwal said the brother-sister duo would lure people with the false promise of sending them abroad, mainly the UK and Canada. “After receiving the fee for the visa, they would point out flaws in the documents and claim their application was rejected. Gradually, they would swindle money from several victims which is being probedfurther,” the officer said.

Protesting against the same company, a couple — Hardeep Singh and Amandeep Kaur from Dhuri in Sangrur — had climbed atop a water tank in Ludhiana’s Model Town Extension on August 12, alleging they were duped of Rs 10 lakh on the pretext of arranging visas to the UK for them, and threatened to end their lives.

Hardeep’s brother Lakhwinder Singh said, “A deal was sealed for Rs 26 lakh, with an advance payment of Rs 10 lakh made via RTGS in February. However, the firm allegedly kept delaying the process and started making excuses when approached for updates on the visa. Besides, the company’s bouncers would misbehave with us.”

The couple climbed down after police assured them of action. Later, the Ludhiana district administration cancelled the firm’s licence.

Previously in 2018, three FIRs were registered against Veenu Malhotra for cheating at the Division Number 8 police station, police said.

I am a former agent and was with Cruise Brothers for a few years. I had booked a large group cruise with a cruise line and Cruise Brothers would not help me with technical difficulties with the cruise line. I am a seasoned travel agent and rarely need help. Due to lack of assistance from Cruise Brothers, I left and went to another host agency. They owe my hundreds of dollars in commissions, and I get vague answers from the team leader. Ie. "Haven't heard back from management". I I'd give ZERO STARS IF THIS SITE WOULD LET ME. This company is hard to deal with and doesn't appreciate its agents. I need to get paid.

They are rude and very unpleasant i got a email that was rude and not pleasant from John. They did not train me and would not help with anything. I would not book travel with this company the people are not friendly. I am or going to switch to a new company. I would stay away from this company.

I signed up with Cruise Brothers about two months ago. It was free and I had always been interested in travel. I had a brief training with my team leader to go over the website and such. I then immediately got to work watching the training videos on the website and signing up for classes for Disney, all of the cruise companies, resorts, etc. It’s been about 2 months and I have sold a little over $3,500 in travel already. My team leader has always been available for me to reach and has answered any questions I have. Very reliable and honest company and I can not wait to see where it takes me.

I have been with Cruisebrothers, for over 25 years. First as a referral agent (I don't think they do this anymore) and for the last 22+ years as an outside agent. I own my regular career business which is Consulting Engineering (Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Protection design of buildings) . The thing that was a great fit and still is. The fact there is no minimum or maximum amounts needed to sell. As my regular profession has peaks and valleys, being a travel professional fills those evenings and slower months. The education is strictly optional, but advised. The perks related makes it worth it many times over. I started to do these sales before this was a large department at Cruisebrothers. My original inside contact is still working at the corporate offices in Rhode Island (Robert N). My current contact is David A. in Florida, he has always given me quick and timely info. and answers to any and all questions. We have appreciation cruises, with classes and something in spring called boot camp that is a crash course in cruising sales and marketing. Some years I can sell dozens of cruises, others, one or two. It doesn't matter to them. There are no requirements, except to be courteous, and give proper advice, as that is how you get and keep potential clients. The Cruise Brothers are actual people, Steve and Russ Gelfuso. My suggestion, if you are willing to put some effort in, is to try this opportunity. If it is not for you, then try something different. Travel is relaxing, and doing it at reduced rates or virtually free is even better. I have taken advantage of free cruises from Carnival, and soon Princess, and NCL. I have also taken advantage of deeply discounted cruises from Disney, Royal Caribbean multiple times and Celebrity. Not bad for a very part time position.

I began with Cruise Brothers about a year ago, and I was thrilled to be able to proceed at my own pace so I could learn the business without being hammered to death by anxious sales managers who were being hammered to death by their sales directors, who were being hammered . . . you get the picture.

I actually had a BDM leave CB for certain reasons, and it did not deter me from continuing. I immediately was assigned to another BDM who is constantly available, knowledgeable, helpful and no nonsense in his approach.

Cruise Brothers has provided me with everything I need, and while I am still learning some systems and still learning the ropes a little, I am well on my way to achieving my income objectives, personal travel objectives, training objectives, etc.

I plan to grow with Cruise Brothers, tap into the imperfect, but very well designed system of support, grow commissions and enjoy traveling the world on my terms. I would rather sacrifice a percentage point of commission to have the peace of mind knowing that I am with an established company helping me to reach my goals and objectives.

01/28/2018 Update:

It has been 18 months since I wrote my initial review, and I wanted to follow up on the success I am having as a member of Cruise Brothers home program. TRAINING: On top of countless webinars, and specialized trainings, in 2016-2017, I successfully completed the top level graduate programs for Disney, Omni Resorts, Royal Caribbean, NCL, Princess, Cunard, Viking, and (one class away on purpose from) Carnival, amongst others. 2016 was my first full year of working this and I achieved enough in commissions to earn my individual CLIA card. OPPORTUNITIES With that card, I am able to take advantage of the many travel and discount opportunities these cruise lines and resorts offer. Yes, it is possible to earn "free" cruises and travel doing this as a part time from home job (Note, it is not free - you must pay taxes, port expenses, resort fees, gratuities, etc.). My 2016 success improved in 2017 where I made a calendar year $275K in sales, more then doubling my commission from 2016, again earning my CLIA and now IATA as well. SUPPORT Cruise Brothers continues to provide top notch support and services, and because of their top-tier status with every cruise line, the commissions are higher rates then other home based agencies. ADVANTAGE The group space advantage has helped me compete against some of these other home based businesses who do not have the volume of group space allocation Cruise Brothers has. I have also received added perks with some lines because Cruise Brothers was top tier in volume (added room credit, and extra air credit, dedicated call in lines for shorter holds!) 2018 is off to a great start - I would highly recommend you getting on board with Cruise Brothers and enjoy the growth of cruise ship vacations in the years ahead. Talking to some agents who went thru other companies, I see that I made the right choice!

There is no gimmick, no pushy sales people telling you that you need a useless website, and no one breathing down your neck saying "make more sales." you work at your own pace and are backed by them.

With the best commission structure in the industry, as well as volume pricing, i have never lost a sale due to pricing. I do not have a sales website as I do all sales directly with clients, and there are a ton of reasons why this approach works much better - to many to list.

Training in plentiful, both with the team at CB, as well as all cruise lines and resorts. I even have the Disney certification. Daily emails and messages from my team lead, who is incredibly knowledgable and helps if anything arises.

I have been very successful due to word of mouth, repeat customers, and ability to build groups, with over $150K booked and/or sailed (and another $15K in cancelled trips) in just over 16 months. Yes, I have hustled and continuously hand out cards and talk up the products.

I can not speak about the 1 star, old reviews other then it appears to be from people who expected an easy gig where people would line up to buy from them - this is sales, you must get out there and work it yourself. Start with friends and family, and word will travel fast. No need to pay a dime out of pocket and get the useless site. Believe it when I say it, this is the program you want.

You'll be representing your independent agency, but also Cruise Brothers, so you'll attend seminars on the product and get to see many areas of a cruise line or all-inclusive resort that most vacation travelers never get to see. You'll examine all different room categories and understand what is most important and learn how you can upsell your clients for more profit. You'll sample various dining facilities and get to understand what is best suited for a couple looking for fun with others, honeymooners who want to be alone, or the best dining accommodations so you become the EXPERT that your friends, family and groups look to for advice. Our partners will show you how to do that and more when you experience their product.

Even though FAM Trips are extremely low priced, the Cruise Brothers goes one step farther by holding sweepstakes which result in FREE cruises and trips to all-inclusive resorts. The Cruising Free! You Earn Commission Each Time You Sell A Cruise Or Land Vacation!

Within the travel industry, when a travel professional sells a cruise or land vacation package for a particular Cruise Line or Tour Operator, that Cruise Line or Tour Operator then pays Cruise Brothers a commission for the sale. The commission is usually a percentage of the overall price of the vacation package sold. As one of the top agencies in the USA, Cruise Brothers commands commissions much higher than smaller agencies.

For example, if a Cruise Line is paying 15% of the total commissionable fare and that fare is $3000.00, the commission paid to Cruise Brothers would be $450.00. Looking at the formula:

Commission Rate X Commissionable Fare = Total Commission Paid To Agency

Showing the actual mathematical calculation:

0.15 x $3000.00 = $450.00

The above commission amount is the amount paid to Cruise Brothers. Cruise Brothers then pays you the portion you agreed upon when you signed up with Cruising Free!

For example, if your commission split with Cruise Brothers is 50% of the total commission earned, then using the above as an example, the commission paid to you is $225.00.

SalesPerson's Commission Rate X Total Commission = Salesperson's Commission

0.50 x $450.00 = $225.00

The above numbers are just a sample. When you think about an average cruise or vacation taking around 2-3 hours of your time from start to finish in research, booking and maintenance you can easily see how you can earn as much or as little as your time allows. Once you become confident in booking, you become faster and might take on groups to make even more commission. The bottom line is that regarding earning potential, the sky is the limit!

Cruise Brothers Commission Payment Policy

In the most direct terms, the Cruising Free! Independent Agent earns anywhere from 50% to 70% (depending on experience), of the total commission earned on each cruise or land vacation travel package that they sell. The Cruise Brothers will then issue payment to the Cruising Free! associate for the amount of earned commission after the customer travels.

The reason the Cruising Free! associate's commission is paid after the customer travels is several fold. Some of these reasons include:

• Cruise Lines and other travel vendors pay the agency commissions only after customer travels.
• The customer could cancel the booking
• The customer could change any one element of their travel package

Regardless of the reason, experience shows that it is much more feasible to wait until the customer travels as once the customer does travel, monies can transact more freely between vendors, the agency, and the Cruising Free! associate.

A Cruising Free! Independent Agent sells cruise and land vacation travel to their friends, family, business associates, and anyone else who contacts you with a desire to experience either cruise or land vacation travel. The Cruising Free! Independent Agent works from their home (or another preferred place of business) and performs all the tasks necessary to sell cruise and land (tours) travel just as if they were sitting at the office.

There are five very general steps that are involved in selling vacation travel. They are:

• Perform marketing and advertising using contacts, flyers, business cards, telephone calls, social media, etc. such that prospective clients contact you wishing to purchase vacation travel...even creating groups for more profitability and growing your database from organizations you already belong to like your church, rotary, Elks, book club or other organization.
• You then use industry specific online tools to find a cruise or land vacation that best suits the customers desire. Note that we provide FREE training for all online tools required.
• Upon customer agreement, you then formally book the cruise or land package with the appropriate cruise line or tour operator. This can be done by any of the following means:
• Using online computer based supplier booking tools.
• Calling the Cruise Line or Tour Operator
• Contacting our Cruising Free! support department or your Team Leader for guidance to walk you through the steps.
• After booking the vacation, and throughout the lifecycle of the booking (the time from booking to when the customer actually travels), you will monitor the booking for any issues that may arise, including entering into our accounting system to get paid. Note: Our Customer Care department acts as another "pair of eyes" for basics, such as payment dates or supplier changes, and may communicate reminders to your clients.
• And finally, when the customer returns from their vacation, you will receive payment from us via check or direct deposit in an amount commensurate with the agent's share of the commissionable amount earned for booking the vacation product.

As a Cruising Free! associate, you should get business cards. We have a business card provider that we recommend you contact. It is Vista Print. We have a template file we can send over to you such that you can give this file to your business card provider.

As a productive associate, you'll be eligible to travel at reduced rates. As a top producer for all major cruise lines, the Cruise Brothers and our travel agents are invited to attend Inaugural Celebrations aboard brand new ships where everything is FREE.

The Cruising Free program also offers various sales contests throughout the year where agents can win free cruises, onboard credits, and gift cards. There are also FREE cruises awarded to our travel agents who complete online courses that the cruise lines provide. The courses are offered for FREE, but not all of them offer FREE cruises for graduating.

FAM Trips - FAM is short for familiarization trips. This is offered either for FREE or a nominal fee to attend. This can take place on a cruise ship or at an all-inclusive resort. They provide training on FAM trips, and you can truly learn about a product by immersing yourself in it.

The cruise lines offer reduced rate cruises to agents based on their ability to provide bookings, so the more you book, the better your chances of qualifying for these special fares! After you earn $5000 in commission, you will qualify for an official IATAN (International Air Transport Association) Travel Agent ID card. My customer experience with Fari Khan…

My customer experience with Fari Khan great. He/she was able to provide me with good option for the tickets I was hoping to get. However some changes to my ticket where unpleasant base on the fact that, I wasn't told about the exact transit hour until I had fully paid all deposit. My Travel Brothers experience

I had a really nice experience booking with travel brothers via my consultant, Jim Jordan. Jim was very patient with me and he also encouraged me when I was late on my arranged payments. He advised me on the best dates and cheapest rates. Jim was polite too. Had a good mastery of his job as he delivered well. He listened to my worries and gave me solutions when I wanted . Jim is always ready to help. Finally he got me a good flight and I'm enjoying my holiday. Thanks to Jim and of course travel brothers.

DISHONEST COMPANY!!!

I booked a flight from Heathrow to Lusaka and paid the deposit of £100 they requested on July 13, and then the remaining £1510 on July 27. Then a man named Henry Thomas told me that the airline was shutting down and could not print the ticket, but that the ticket would be printed on Monday, July 29. Surprisingly, he sent me a message on Monday telling me that he had not bought the ticket and that I had to pay an extra £1400 to get the same flight. When I requested the money back, he told me the airline would charge me over £400 in cancellation charges and that it would take 3 to 4 weeks to get my money back. I asked why the airline was charging me cancellation charges when he had not bought the ticket. I even asked him to give me a receipt for the reservation he made on July 13, but he could not provide it. I am trying to do whatever it takes to get my full money back as soon as possible! So please be aware of this dishonest company! This dishonest company is managed by Jeff.
