Georgia Chamber’s New Georgia Economy Tour lands in Savannah

S AVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The Georgia Chamber brought its New Georgia Economy Tour to Savannah on Wednesday at the Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus.

The main presenter from the chamber was Seth Millican, the executive director of the Georgia Transportation Alliance.

The goal of the tour is to listen to Georgia workers to help develop a strategic plan for the future of the state’s economy.

“As we shift our focus to 2025 and beyond, we hope to garner input from our local chamber partners to develop solutions and recommendations that secure the future of prosperity of Georgia,” said Georgia Chamber President and CEO Chris Clark.

Savannah Chamber president and CEO Bert Brantley says they look forward to collaborating with the Georgia Chamber on how the state can best move forward.

The Georgia Chamber intends to focus on key areas such as tax structure and the success of small businesses.

The tour’s next stop is Augusta University on June 18.

Hoping to deal a blow to Hungary’s Orbán, challenger holds mass demonstration on eve of EU election

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — A rising political newcomer hoping to deal a blow to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán mobilized tens of thousands of supporters in Budapest on Saturday in a final show of strength on the eve of a European Parliament election.

Péter Magyar, a 43-year-old lawyer who in a matter of months has built up Hungary’s strongest opposition party , hopes to use a good showing in Sunday’s EU elections to propel himself and his movement toward defeating the nationalist Orbán in the next national ballot scheduled for 2026.

Once an insider within Orbán’s Fidesz party, Magyar has gained quick prominence through publicly accusing the prime minister and his allies of corruption and anti-democratic tendencies. He has drawn thousands of curious spectators on a tour of nearly 200 Hungarian cities, towns and villages in the last two months.

In the blazing heat on Saturday, Magyar addressed the sprawling crowd that filled Budapest Heroes’ Square, saying that he and his movement would build “a more beautiful, peaceful and happy country” and bring an end to Orbán’s 14 years in power.

“I was a spark that started the motor of change,” he said.

Recent polls show that Fidesz is likely to take a relative majority of votes in Sunday’s election, but that Magyar’s party, Respect and Freedom (TISZA), could gain up to 30% and cause a loss of seats for Fidesz among Hungary’s 21-member delegation in the EU legislature.

TISZA has gained its base of support among voters disillusioned by both Orbán’s illiberal form of governance and Hungary’s traditional opposition parties, which have proven unable to mount a serious challenge to the populist leader’s rule since 2010.

One Magyar supporter, 69-year-old Budapest resident Mária Németh, said on Saturday that she hasn’t voted in any election since 2010, when she supported Hungary’s right-wing Jobbik party.

But now, she said, she plans to vote for TISZA because of the “filth and lies” in Hungarian politics that she attributes to Orbán — particularly about the war in Ukraine.

“If Péter Magyar hadn’t come around, I wouldn’t vote,” Németh said. “They tell so many lies about the war. Everyone wants peace, whether on the left or the right, everyone wants peace.”

Orbán, known as the EU’s closest Kremlin ally , has cast the stakes of Sunday’s election as nothing less than peace in Europe if his party wins, or a global conflagration if it loses.

He has blamed “pro-war” politicians in Washington and Brussels for escalating tensions with Russia over its war in Ukraine , and portrayed his refusal to supply Kyiv with military aid and other support as a “pro-peace” position unique in Europe.

During his campaign, Orbán has claimed that a vote for those running against him would risk Hungarian youth being sent to the front lines in Ukraine. Magyar has pushed back on the claim, and on Saturday lifted a slogan Orbán has used to promote his own party.

“Those who vote for peace vote for TISZA,” he said.

A staunch opponent of immigration, Orbán has also campaigned on a promise that he will preserve Hungary as a “migrant-free” country, and has correlated past armed conflicts in Europe with what he sees as a deficit of “white Christians” on the continent.

“In the two (world) wars, 57 million Europeans died, and people are amazed that there aren’t enough Christian, white, traditional Europeans in Europe,” he said at a campaign rally on Thursday. “Instead, there’s a vacuum filled by migrants.”

Magyar has dismissed accusations by Orbán that he — or any other Hungarians — are “pro-war.” In an interview with The Associated Press in May, he was unequivocal in pointing out the potential risks if Russia was permitted to retain the Ukrainian territories that it has occupied — including the Crimean Peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014.

In his final message to voters before the election on Saturday, he said he would to bring an end to Orbán’s “fear-mongering propaganda,” and work for a country where “there’s no left, no right, there’s only Hungarians.”

“TISZA aims to ensure that Hungarian families can live in peace and security, and that our children can live without the fear of war. The future is up to you now,” he said.

Frequently Asked Questions

City Hall in Savannah

OLD TOWN TROLLEY OF SAVANNAH FAQS

Read below to get answers to our most frequently asked questions.

How long is your tour?

One complete loop takes 90 minutes and covers 9 miles of Savannah’s Historic District, Colonial District, and Victorian District; however, our on and off feature allows you to take the tour at your leisure. You can actually fit the tour to your schedule and make it last as long as you want. (One day use only).

Do I have to start at stop #1?

You may start your Old Town Trolley Tour at any of our convenient stops. Click on Map and Stops to see a list of our stops with information about the attractions and points of interest at each stop.

What language are the tours in?

All of our tours are in English.

How many stops do you have along the route?

We have 15 designated stops along our tour. These are located conveniently near historical points of interest, museums, parks, restaurants, and shopping areas.

Is the tour narrated?

Yes, the drivers tell you about the rich history of Savannah, from the founding of the colony, the Civil War history, to the many movies and TV shows that have been filmed here. The conductors regale you with amusing anecdotes about the colorful individuals who helped shape Savannah’s history.

Are food and drinks allowed while on the tour?

Food and drinks are welcome. However alcoholic beverages are not allowed under any circumstance for the safety and comfort of all of our guests.

Where can I park?

Go to Where to Park for parking near our stops.

Is it better to ride the tour all the way around one time, and then start again at the beginning to get on and off?

It is more advantageous to start getting on and off the trolley the first time you go around. There is so much to see and do in Savannah that you may find that there are more stops which you want to get off and explore than you realize. The complete loop is 1 ½ hours, and you lose precious time that could be spent exploring the sights if you ride all the way around without taking advantage of the on and off option. We recommend that you re-board at the same location you got off at last. Since all of our drivers follow the same route and historical script, you essentially pick up the narration where you left off.

Does the price of the ticket include admission into any of the museums?

No, the ticket price is for the trolleys only; however, you can purchase discounted tickets for museums, historical houses, and other Savannah attractions from any of our sales representatives or online.

How often do the trolleys come by each stop?

Trolleys run on a 20 minute schedule. This means there will be a new trolley by each stop approximately every 20 minutes – more frequently than any other company.

How do I get back to my car from one of the trolley stops?

The trolleys follow a continuous loop, so if you board at any of the stops and do not disembark, it will eventually bring you back to where you started. We always have plenty of sales reps at different stops in the historic district. They are always happy to give directions and help the guests find the closest stop for the quickest way back.

What are the hours the trolleys run?

Go to Trolley Schedule .

What is the latest tour that runs?

You can still get a complete 1 ½ hour tour starting at 4:30, without any on and off privileges.

Can I get picked up at my hotel?

Yes, we pick up at any hotel or B&B in the Historic District. We also pick up from most hotels in the surrounding area. For more information, go to complimentary shuttle service .

I see several different colored trolleys; can I get on any of them?

No, there are several different trolley companies in the Savannah area. We operate the bright and colorful orange and green trolleys.

What is the difference between your tour and the other tours I see around town?

There are many things that set us apart from our competitors. First, we have a very intensive training course that lasts for several weeks, which all of our conductors are required to participate in and complete. We have the largest fleet of trolleys in Savannah, and can therefore promise less waiting between trolleys. Our tour conductors follow a set route, so you know you will never be stranded at a stop without any trolleys coming through to pick you up. We are so confident that you will not regret your decision to ride with our company that we offer a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee *.

*Special exemptions apply to the following reservation based attractions: Yankee Freedom III, Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum and Ghosts & Gravestones charters.

If the trolley that i want to get on comes by full, what do i do.

Don’t panic. Don’t walk to another stop. The tour conductor will call the dispatcher to see when the next trolley will be through. We are prepared for these scenarios, and if need be, we will send out an “extra” driver to “come to the rescue”. Usually another trolley will be there within 10 minutes.

Can I go around the loop more than once?

Yes, the on and off ticket is for the whole day. This is great, because it allows you to go back to a stop you have already been to if you want to spend more time exploring.

Is the CAT shuttle trolley that I see going around the Historic District a narrated tour?

No, the CAT shuttle is the public transportation for the downtown area run by the city transit system. They do not offer narration and are strictly public transportation.

Is the trolley open – aired or enclosed?

All of the trolleys are open-air for most of the year. The trolley windows can be shut in cold or rainy weather.

Do you run on holidays?

Yes, we run on every holiday except for St. Patrick’s Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Large parades are held in Savannah on those days disabling us from running tours. We do run a transportation shuttle on St. Patrick’s Day from the Oglethorpe Mall to the downtown area.

What are the ages for children and adults?

Children are ages 4 – 12. Children under 4 are free. Adults are 13 years of age and up. Ghosts & Gravestones: 6-12; No children under 6 allowed.

How many days is the trolley ticket good for?

The ticket is for one day only. However, 2nd day tickets can be bought at less than ½ the price of an on and off ticket at $10 per person. Go to Savannah Tickets .

Does the 2-day pass have to be used on consecutive days?

Can i bring my stroller on board the trolley.

Yes, we can accommodate strollers but they must be collapsible and will be stored up front with the conductor. Strollers in the aisle ways would constitute a safety hazard.

Are your trolleys handicap accessible for individuals with wheelchairs and motorized scooters?

For information, go to Accessibility Services .

Are dogs allowed on your trolleys?

Service animals are the only animals that are allowed on board the trolleys. A service animal means a dog, regardless of breed or type, that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of a qualified individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Animal species other than dogs, emotional support animals, comfort animals, companionship animals, and service animals in training are not service animals.

Do you run tours in any other cities?

Old Town Trolley Tours operates sightseeing tours and historically themed tourist attractions in 8 different cities around the country. Go to Sightseeing Tours to learn more about our other cities.

Savannah Chrisley appears on Chris Cuomo's NewsNation show.

Todd Chrisley may be looking to move prisons after he’s allegedly faced retaliation for speaking out about his current living conditions as officials “cannot guarantee his safety,” according to his daughter Savannah.

Appearing on Chris Cuomo’s NewsNation  show, the 26-year-old said the blowback her father has been receiving has been “heartbreaking” for her to watch unfold.

“The retaliation is real,” she said. “It is heartbreaking for me to watch as his daughter, but they have even gone to the extent of stating that they will try to ship him to a state facility because our federal institutions cannot guarantee his safety.”

The “Chrisley Knows Best” alum claimed she’s heard directly from the Pensacola Federal Prison Camp workers, which she insists “should scare the warden and the [Bureau of Prisons].”

“The BoP has called me a liar numerous times, but I have all the information to back it up,” she went on.

“And these letters, I mean, I even have recordings of them speaking about shipping my father … but they have to have a good reason to. They have to find something he’s in violation of.”

The “Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley” podcast host has been an ardent voice in speaking out about the horrible living conditions at the Kentucky and Florida prisons where her parents are being held following  their convictions for fraud and tax evasion .

Savannah previously alleged that the prisoners are not given proper medical care and are sometimes given the wrong medication.

She also claimed that there is no air conditioning in the prisons even when it’s over 100 degrees outside.

Julie Chrisley and Todd Chrisley on "Chrisley Know's Best."

She told Cuomo Thursday that the facility has gone to “the extent of planting cell phones, drugs, going through his lockers” in a desperate bid to “send him to a facility and truly behind bars.”

She also said that Todd’s wife, Julie Chrisley, has been living in terrible conditions, too.

“The conditions are awful. They’re deplorable,” she said of her mother’s prison stint.

“The fact that she’s in Kentucky, it’s 30 degrees. She’s going without heat. They will do a temporary fix and then they’ll be without it again. There was also a dead bird in the water where their water comes from. So, it’s tough.”

Todd, 54, and Julie, 51,  reported to their respective prisons  in January 2023, two months after they were sentenced for fraud and tax evasion .

The patriarch of the Chrisley family was sentenced to 12 years in prison, while his wife was ordered to serve seven years behind bars.

Aside from Savannah, the reality stars share two other children: Chase, 27, and Grayson, 17. Todd is also the father of Lindsie, 34, and Kyle, 32, both of whom he shares with his ex-wife, Teresa Terry.

The couple also adopted Kyle’s daughter, Chloe, 11, after her father, a recovering addict, lost custody of her in 2016.  Savannah now has custody of Grayson and Chloe  while her parents serve their prison terms.

Everything about public transport in Moscow

Working hours are from 5:30 AM to 1:00 AM. The bus-stop is a plate with A sign, trolleybus-stop with a T and tram-stops are marked with Tp . Marshrutkas use all those stops too.

Yandex has public transport app ( iOS , Android ) that shows live location of buses, trolleybuses and trams and predict in what time the transport arrives at the stop.

1. Types of transport in Moscow

Moscow Bus

Bus is the most popular and most commonly used type of transport after the underground. First buses appeared in the city before the Revolution of 1917; nowadays 18 bus fleets operate over a thousand various routes. Buses can carry you within the city and to the Moscow suburbs.

Trolleybuses

Moscow Trolleybus

Moscow has the largest trolleybus network in the world. A trolleybus is an quiet and environmentally friendly type of transport. However, it’s less reliable than a bus due to high risk of temporary stops because of illegally parked cars and car crashes.

Moscow Tram

Only few tramway routes remained until now in the center of Moscow. It is nice to make a weekend sightseeing trip through the old city in the tram No. 39 or in the famous «Annushka», from Bulgakov’s «The Master and Margarita». Tram routes are being renovated now. New high-speed trains appear on the streets, replacing old yellow ones.

Marshrutkas (minibuses)

Moscow marshrutka

Marshrutka is a small bus that serves the same routes as public transport but much faster. The foreigners should know that only  blue with pattern on top  minibuses are preferable. They are officially admitted, accept public transport ticket there and you can take this minibus only at a bus stop. You can get to other marshrutkas not only at bus or trolleybus stops, but wave down your hand (like calling a taxi) whenever you see it. Coming across your destination point, you are just to ask a driver to stop (in a loud voice and better say it in Russian – «Ostanovite pozhaluista» – as most of the drivers do not understand foreign languages). The cost of a single ride is about 50 rubles (€0.50) and you should pay directly to a driver when entering the minibus.

2. Tickets in Moscow transport

1 or 2 trips.

You can buy tickets for 1 or 2 trips only in ticket offices. They are located at some bus stops throughout the city. Tickets cost 55 and 110 rubles (€0.55 and €1.10) respectively. Ticket offices sell all kind of tickets; ones for bigger amount of trips are more profitable.

Buying ticket at a driver

You can buy a single ticket at a driver when you enter a bus, trolleybus or tram. Drivers sell only single tickets, they cost 55 rubles (€0.55).

«Troyka» card

You can also use a card called «Troyka» – refillable card to pay for travelling on all kinds of public transport – metro, buses, trolley-buses, trams, monorail and green minibuses. Every trip becomes much cheaper with it.

Moscow Metro tickets

All metro tickets can be used at the surface transport, and vise versa.

3. Moscow night-time public transport

Night busses, trolleybuses and trams work from 1:00 AM until 5:45 AM, when all the day transport and the metro stops working. Some of the routes coincide with the day ones, some – work only at night. The traffic interval is 15 or 30 minutes.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
