Camp Exchange USA

Summer Camp in the United States is a way of life. Over a million children a year in a America attend a camp and in South Africa we look for young councilors who are keen to travel to America for the summer to work with kids, teach a sport or an activity. Most people who go to camp say it is the greatest job you will ever have because you are paid to do a hobby or sport you love.  So if you like children and have a sport or skill you love doing and are happy to teach it to children, then camp is for you.

Eligibility

• Interested applicants must be between the ages of 19-27
• Must have experience with children, not necessarily as a form of profession but a profession related to fields of teaching, coach and youth/social worker is an advantage. In general have a set of skill to offer to children.
• Must be South African, or have a valid visa to be in South Africa
• Prepared to work hard and commit to the conditions and cultures set for camp and America as a country.

Duration and Start Dates

• Program applications are open year around.
• It takes a minimum of 2-3 months to place candidates and process everything needed for the visa program.
• The program is a minimum of 9 weeks. It is best to APPLY EARLY.

The Visa classed used for this program is the J1 exchange Visa.

After you have completed your program, you have a 30 day grace period in which you may travel America.

During your employment at the summer camp, you will earn a minimum if $950 for the while duration of your contact. The location that your camp can be varies as there are over 12 000 Summer Camps in America and any one of them can select you to offer a position.

It is a requirement that all flight details are handled by Awesome Travel through our flight department. This includes the free flight change that is offered with the ticket of which you can request day of when you would like to change the flight to and we will aim for the closest date possible if not the exact date.

As a camp councilor, in your position you would be in charge of setting up and managing a program/activity schedule that is in line with your activity, be it archery, rock climbing, swimming or even boating.

The skills that are required at camp do not need to be professional or qualified. As long as you have experience in the skill, confidence and are willing to lead your activity with children then that is all that is needed.

Total costs: R7599 (Please note that Visa and passport costs are not included)

This cost includes:

• Application assistance throughout the process
• In-person or webcam interviews to determine visa eligibility
• Visa application and scheduling assistance
• Periodic pre-departure program resources and tools
• In-person pre-departure Program Orientation
• Assistance with flight scheduling
• Visa sponsorship including DS-2019 Form issuance
• One night accommodation at Meet & Greet site upon US arrival if chosen by your camp
• Ground transportation information and assistance upon arrival to the US to Meet & Greet (if chosen by your camp) or your camp’s pick-up point. All transfer costs associated with transport to Meet & Greet are the responsibility of the applicant
• Information and guidance to camp pick-up location

Our program provided for qualified candidates to train under some of the very best farming professional and gain experience vital to being able to be successful in the farming industry back in South Africa. We have a partner network across the United States that provides training  opportunities in order for you to work, learn and grow in agriculture while building a life long business network.

• Applicants must be between the ages of 19-30
• Must have at least an NQF level 5 or a Diploma, have an agricultural background and experience related to farming, animals, crops, dairy and cattle production.
• Must be a South African or have a valid visa to be in South Africa.
• Prepared to work hard and commit to conditions of the training program to advance your career
• Program applications are accepted all year around.
• It takes between 4-6 months to place candidates and process everything needed for the visa program.
• Programs are for a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months.
• It is best to APPLY EARLY.
• We make use of the J1 intern and trainee visa costs.
• After training completion, you’re granted a 30 day grace period to travel and explore America.
• This program is not free however we have a variety of fee options available to qualifying candidates in order to assist everyone interested participate.

Probably the only really open work and travel program that allows young South Africans the opportunity to travel to a country and work for up to a year in any field. So if meeting travelers from all over the world while working in your field appeals to you then work New Zealand is the program for you.

• Interested applicants must be between the ages of 19-30
• Must have post high school studies in any chosen field and have experience within the chosen field.
• Must be South African citizen
• Must be mature enough to travel to a country on your own and mange things like work, housing and other day to day challenges.
• The program allows the visa holder to arrive in New Zealand and have 365 days to stay and work in the country on the program form that day.
• Visa application can take about a month.
• THERE IN NO NEED TO HAVE A JOB LINED UP BEFORE YOU LEAVE.   
• The visa is valid for 1 full year.
• You can work in any field.
• You can work as much as you like or you don’t have to work and can just travel (if you have the cash).
• A true working and Travel program for South African’s.
• Work New Zealand is and open program and has no employers attached to the visa.
• With it being and open visa (no attachment to an employer) there is no assistance provided for the the fees of the program.

South Africa’s niche travel market set to surge by 2025

Chantal Gouws, general manager at Flight Centre Independent (FCI), says: "We're seeing a marked increase in requests for specialised itineraries. From marine conservation expeditions along the Wild Coast to mindfulness retreats in the Drakensberg, travellers are looking for holidays that reflect their passions."

This trend is not isolated to South Africa. Globally, the adventure tourism market, valued at $366.7bn in 2022, is projected to reach $4.6t by 2032, according to Allied Market Research. Meanwhile, wellness tourism and sustainable travel are also gaining traction, with the global wellness tourism market expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.8% from 2023 to 2030, as reported by Grand View Research.

Solo travel, particularly among millennials, is another niche seeing significant growth in South Africa, according to research conducted by the Flight Centre Travel Group.

This paradigm shift isn't just a fleeting trend—it's a fundamental change in how South Africans approach travel. For independent travel consultants (ITCs), this evolution represents more than just a challenge—it's an unprecedented opportunity to redefine their role and value in the travel ecosystem.

By specialising in niche markets, ITCs can transform themselves from mere booking agents into indispensable travel partners, curating experiences that speak directly to their clients' passions and dreams.

• Market differentiation : By focusing on specific niches, travel consultants can differentiate themselves in a crowded market. This could mean becoming an expert in adventure travel, wellness retreats, or sustainable travel. For travellers, this means they have access to a wealth of specialised information and unique travel opportunities.

• In-depth destination knowledge : With travellers seeking more authentic, localised experiences, in-depth knowledge of destinations - particularly those popular among South Africans like Thailand, the UK, and the Indian Ocean islands - becomes crucial.

• Increased earning potential : Niche travel often commands premium prices, allowing ITCs to increase their earning potential. For travellers, the higher cost is often justified by the enhanced and tailored experiences they receive.

• Established authority : By becoming experts in their chosen niche, ITCs can establish themselves as trusted authorities in that segment, further enhancing their reputation as thought leaders. Travellers gain confidence in the expertise and reliability of their travel consultants.

The ability to cater to niche interests and provide personalised, high-value experiences will be crucial for travel consultants in 2025, according to Gouws. • Solo travel : With 80% of solo travellers being millennials, ITCs can offer tailored itineraries and resources for independent exploration.

• Wellness tourism : The global wellness tourism market was valued at USD 817 billion in 2022 and is expected to grow significantly. ITCs can specialise in wellness retreats, yoga holidays, and health-focused travel experiences.

• Adventure tourism : This rapidly growing market includes activities such as hiking, wildlife safaris, and water sports. The global adventure tourism market is projected to reach USD 4.6 trillion by 2032.

• Sustainable tourism : As environmental awareness increases, sustainable tourism is gaining traction. ITCs can focus on eco-friendly accommodations and responsible wildlife tourism to cater to the growing “conscious traveller” market.
