WATCH: In back-and-forth affair, Jonas La Tour and the North Kitsap Vikings hold off 2A Olympic rival Port Angeles

POULSBO - Jonas La Tour knows how to help his team win big games at North Kitsap High School . The Vikings won the Class 2A boys basketball championship a season ago.

And on Saturday afternoon, they were trailing well into the second half at home against 2A Olympic League rival Port Angeles .

But La Tour sank a momentum-changing 3-pointer in the final seconds of the third quarter, then led the Vikings to a 73-69 victory over the Roughriders.

La Tour, a junior, finished with a game-high 29 points - 15 coming in the final nine minutes of the game.

"A big game," La Tour said. "There were definitely nerves involved."

Xander Maestas scored a career-high 23 points for Port Angeles - 20 coming in the second half, mostly from long range.

Jonas Brothers Promise ‘Five Albums Every Night’ on North American Tour

The Jonas Brothers will dig into their own “eras” bag with a new North American tour that will find them performing “five albums every night.” A few weeks before its kick-off, the band has extended their biggest tour yet with the addition of 26 new shows in North America and 27 new shows in Australia, New Zealand, and Europe.

“The Tour,” as it’s being called, appears to build off the band’s recent Broadway residency , during which they played one of their albums in its entirety each night, along with a selection of hits. The shows covered 2007’s self-titled up through their new LP, The Album , released May 12 (no luck for fans of 2006’s It’s About Time ). 

Anyway, “The Tour” will kick off with the band’s two previously-announced how’s at Yankee Stadium in New York City on Aug. 12 and 13. The run was originally scheduled to wrapping on Oct. 14 at the Kaseya Center in Miami. Now, it will continue with a show at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena on Oct. 18 and extend through June 20, when it will conclude with a show in Northern Ireland. The new dates include shows in Brooklyn, Portland, Newark, Nashville, Vancouver, Seattle, Salt Lake City, and more.

Parcours en uitslagen Tour of Britain 2024 | Magnier-mania in Engeland! Williams moet nog één dagje

Rittenkoersen in het najaar: daar zijn er niet al teveel van, maar dat maakt de koersen die er wél zijn alleen maar interessanter. De Tour of Britain is er één van. Wout van Aert hield er vorig jaar huis, is het ditmaal aan Remco Evenepoel ? In de Leiderstrui houdt het voor je bij.

De Ronde van Groot-Brittannië is de Nederlandse en Belgische coureurs goedgezind. Driemaal wist er een Nederlander te winnen in de laatste tien jaar, met onze klassieke toppers Dylan van Baarle (2014), Lars Boom (2017) en Mathieu van der Poel in 2019.

Vorig jaar ging de overwinning naar een Belg : Wout van Aert en Jumbo-Visma rolden het gehele soepie toen op. Twee jaar eerder won de superster uit Herentals ook al het eindklassement, maar dat zal hem dit seizoen alvast niet lukken: Van Aert rijdt de Vuelta en zal net als zijn ploeg niet aanwezig zijn.

Tour of Britain 2024: Parcours, favorieten dagzeges en tijden

Etappe 1, dinsdag 3 september: kelso - kelso (181,9 km).

De Tour of Britain ging van start in Kelso, Schotland. Vruchtbare grond voor Remco Evenepoel, die er vorig jaar natuurlijk WK tijdrijden-goud behaalde in Stirling. De Belg maakte op dag één kans, maar het werd uiteindelijk een sprint van een uitgedund peloton. Hierin ook Evenepoels ploeggenoot Paul Magnier. Hij zegevierde na prachtig teamwork binnen Soudal Quick-Step en was tevens de eerste leider.

Etappe 2, woensdag 4 september: Darlington - Redcar (152,1 km)

Op dag twee trokken we van Darlington naar Redcar, gelegen aan de kust. Gedurende de etappe stonden er de nodige vieze hoogtemeters op het programma, verdeeld over vele kleine beklimmingen. En dat betekende voor de sterke mannen dat ze zin hadden om amok te maken, met Remco Evenepoel voorop! De dubbel olympisch kampioen reed erg sterk en cijferde zich uiteindelijk weg voor Julian Alaphilippe, die goed mee was met het drietal dat om de zege ging strijden, maar het in de spurt aflegde tegen Waalse Pijl-laureaat Stephen Williams.

Beklimmingen 74,6 km: Ugglebarnby Moor (1,9 km a 7,9%) 85,9 km: Raw Pasture Bank (1,5 km a 6,5%) 100,3 km: Lythe Bank (1,5 km a 8,3%)

Etappe 3, donderdag 5 september: Sheffield - Barnsley (166,1 km)

Etappe drie was de koninginnenrit van deze Tour of Britain. Starten deden we in Sheffield, om 166 kilometer later te finishen in Barnsley. Op vijf kilometer van het einde stond er met Hound Hill (1,4 kilometer aan 5,5 procent) nog een listig heuveltje op de rol. Uiteindelijk zou er gesprint worden met een relatief grote groep, waar echter topfavoriet Remco Evenepoel niet bij zat. De Belg moest opvallend vroeg lossen, terwijl het spurtje een kolfje naar de hand van klassementsleider Stephen Williams was. In zijn leiderstrui won de Israel-Premier Tech-man dus zijn tweede opeenvolgende rit!

Beklimmingen 17,1 km: Long Lane (2,4 km a 5,5%) 22,0 km: Jawbone Hill (1,7 km a 8,9%) 162,0 km: Hound Hill (1,4 km a 5,5%)

Etappe 4, vrijdag 6 september: Derby - Newark (138,5 km)

Dag vier mochten we bestempelen als een biljartlaken, vanuit Derby naar Newark-on-Trent. Rappe mannen, maak u klaar? Paul Magnier was de rapste.

Op dag vijf starten en finishen we in Northampton, waar we opnieuw een kans voor de rappe mannen lijken te krijgen. Het aantal hoogtemeters komt namelijk maar net boven de 1000 uit.

Eindigen doen we deze Tour of Britain aan de Britse kust, in Felixstowe. Mogelijk dat waaiers nog voor wat amok kunnen zorgen, want van de hoogtemeters moeten we het niet hebben: dit zijn er slechts 817 volgens de organisatie.

Favorieten eindklassement Tour of Britain 2024

Heel selectief is de omloop van de Tour of Britain dit jaar niet, dus aanvallers zullen het nodige moeten forceren om voor de eindzege te rijden. Voordeel voor dat type coureurs is dat de ploegen slechts uit zes renners bestaan, waardoor er over het algemeen net iets minder controle is. Al is het onderlinge niveauverschil wellicht aan de grote kans.

Zo is er een WorldTour-team als Soudal Quick-Step, dat met kampioenen als Remco Evenepoel en Julian Alaphilipp e op komt draven. Vermoedelijk dat zij niet eens de grootste kanshebbers zijn namens de Belgische ploeg, daar heuvelsprinter Paul Magnier met zijn snelle eindschot na een lastige koers op de Van Aert 2023-manier ook heel wat shine kan pakken.

INEOS Grenadiers stelt daar Tom Pidcock en ook de naar Soudal Quick-Step trekkende Ethan Hayter tegenover, maar ook Israel-Premier Tech heeft een sterke ploeg in de breedte. Met puncher Stephen Williams , toptalent Joseph Blackmore en de sterke spurters Ethan Vernon en Jake Stewart kunnen zij proberen te wedijveren met de grote ploegen.

Andere WorldTour-teams zijn dsm-firmenich PostNL en Bahrain Victorious, waar uit Nederlands oogpunt ook goede coureurs meedoen. De Nederlandse ploeg heeft sprinter Casper van Uden en de uit startplek Kelso afkomstige Oscar Onley tot de beschikking, terwijl de formatie uit het Midden-Oosten Wout Poels , Pello Bilbao en Matevz Govekar meeneemt.

Revelatie-stagiair Jelte Krijnsen doet nament Q36.5 ook mee, waar Uno-X op Jonas Abrahamsen, Markus Hoelgaard en de rappe Erlend Blikra rekent. Voor het overige is het kijken naar jonge talenten als Noah Hobbs (opleidingsploeg Groupama-FDJ), Tom Donnenwirth, Rasmus Sojberg Pedersen (Decathlon AG2R Development), Liam O'Brien (Lidl-Trek Future), Robert Donaldson (Trinity) en de in deze koers voor de Britse selectie koersende Visma-mannen Tomos Pattinson en Jed Smitshon.

A Magical Match Made in Moscow. In June 2008, Dmitri Hvorostovsky invited Sondra Radvanovsky to be his guest star in the prestigious Moscow concert series ‘Hvorostovsky and Friends,’ with conductor Constantine Orbelian and the Philharmonia of Russia. This glamorous occasion, captured on film for Russian television, marked these artists’ first-ever musical collaboration – and proved to be a historic event that documented for posterity one of those all-too-rare instances of magical artistic alchemy between two great opera stars. Their electrifying performance was an instant sensation, and a potent preview of the two stars’ effusively acclaimed later appearances together in Il Trovatore at Covent Garden, The Met and The San Francisco Opera.

Delos recorded the live concert, to be released later as the critically-acclaimed CD, ‘Verdi Opera Scenes’. The Russian TV show, featuring their national baritone hero and his dazzling guest, was broadcast throughout the Russian Federation. Upon obtaining that film footage, Delos collaborated with California film editor Steve Scoville, who expertly synched the footage with Delos’s concert audio. The result, available for the first time on this DVD, takes the viewer/listener to Moscow’s Great Hall for the concert’s most unforgettable moments, with stunning ‘you are there’ sonic and visual impact. Bonus feature interview with Maestro Orbelian.
