Explore the cloud forest reserve in the heart of Monteverde from up above as you walk among the treetops with a local expert. Embark on a guided walking tour high above the forest floor on a leisurely paced “Hanging Bridges” tour and gain a different perspective of the cloud forest’s unique ecosystem, its mammals, birds, plants and flora. Admire the forest floor bursting with natural wonders, wildlife, and take in the amazing vistas. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to get up close to the indigenous wildlife in their natural habitat as your local expert shares stories of this incredible landscape and the ecology of the cloud forest.

Experience the unique sensation of flying through nature! For nature lovers, the greatest adventure of all is to take a Zip Line Canopy Adventure Tour. Selvatura Adventure Park and Canopy Tour is one of the best soft adventures in Costa Rica. Canopy Tour guides start by outfitting you with the appropriate equipment; then they take you through each of the 12 cables and 19 platforms and through the Tarzan Swing (optional). Selvatura Park is one of the longest Canopy Tours in Costa Rica, and is the only zip line canopy tour located inside the actual virgin cloud forest of Monteverde. Feel pure adrenaline and excitement of flying up to 35 miles per hour, viewing magnificent landscapes. Zip lines ranging from 120 to more than 2,000 feet in length and 60 to 400 feet in height let you experience the cloud forest from a whole new perspective. The tree top canopy tour not only offers a great adventure but also an opportunity to observe wildlife in its natural habitat. Trained personnel (accredited by the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism) accompanies you throughout the tour. If you are looking for a fun adventure and amazing rides, this canopy tour is your best choice.

Get a different perspective of the Costa Rican wildlife when you venture into the natural habitat of a dolphin family. With a guide, get a firsthand look at these elegant creatures and watch as they play along the water’s surface. Home to an abundance of animals, keep an eye out for other creatures as well. If you’re lucky, you may even spot some whales or turtles! Afterwards, try your hand at fishing as you cast your line into the blue waters of the Pacific. You’ll also get a chance to swim and snorkel in the warm waves along the coast, getting a closer look at the sea life.

Branches reaching out into the swamp, creatures bustling through the undergrowth, and long-necked birds wading into the cloudy water. The mangroves of Costa Rica are not only essential to the larger ecosystem but also function as an ethereal waterway that will make you feel as if you’ve been transported to another world. Mangrove trees live in swamps where salt water meets fresh water, creating a flourishing home for a wide variety of animals. On your kayak, discover an intimate look at the local wildlife as you gently paddle six miles down the Ora River. Keep an eye out for playful monkeys and explorative iguanas scurrying up the trees. Follow your guide as you coast along the water, making your way along the winding river and taking in the nature all around you.

Equally rich in wine and natural beauty, Stellenbosch offers extraordinary experiences that cater to ... [+] both the wine aficionado and the enthusiastic traveler alike.

Set in the heart of South Africa's Western Cape, Stellenbosch is widely regarded as one of the top wine regions in the world. Famed for its full-bodied reds and crisp chenin blancs, the region is equally acclaimed for its jaw-dropping landscape of lush vineyards set against towering mountains. Equally rich in wine and natural beauty, Stellenbosch offers extraordinary experiences that cater to both the wine aficionado and the enthusiastic traveler alike. The incredible view from Jordan's outdoor tasting room.

Jordan Wines

Start your tasting experience by savoring Jordan's exquisite wines on their outdoor deck, where you'll be awed not just by the flavors of the wines but equally by stunning views of the majestic Stellenbosch Mountains. You’ll enjoy premium tastings as you take in the views and learn about the flora and fauna of the Cape Winelands.

After your wine tasting, indulge in an unforgettable culinary journey at The Jordan Restaurant, helmed by the celebrated Chef Marthinus Ferreira. This sought-after dining destination offers an elevated farm-to-table experience that shows off the rich flavors and ingredients of Stellenbosch and South Africa. The multicourse dining feast, paired with thoughtfully selected wines, is a truly unparalleled gastronomic feast that ranks as one of the top dining experiences in the country.

Finally, as if offering a word-class dining and tasting experience were not enough, Jordan also offers luxury accommodation in the heart of the winelands. These beautifully appointed suites are a welcome getaway with unmatched panoramas of the vineyards and the Stellenbosch Mountains.

Le Grand Domaine Enoteca Wine Bar

Located on Stellenbosch’s bustling Church Street, this trendy wine bar is beloved by oenophiles and prides itself on showcasing the top vintages the area has to offer. There are over 30 of the best regional wines available for side-by-side tastings, making it an essential stop for those looking to explore Stellenbosch’s impressive range of vineyards. Enoteca is also an eatery favoured by locals that serves bistro-style fare like Darling sauvignon blanc steamed mussels, truffle parmesan fries, delicious kingklip and more. It’s an ideal spot to wine and dine with fellow noble grape lovers.

Middelvlei stands out as one of the few wineries (or wine farms, as they’re called in South Africa) ... [+] in the region that invites guests to experience firsthand the creative process of wine making with its wine blending experience.

Middelvlei stands out as one of the few wineries (or wine farms, as they’re called in South Africa) in the region that invites guests to experience firsthand the creative process of winemaking with its wine blending experience. The session begins with a guided tasting, where you'll learn about the nuanced flavors of Pinotage, merlot and shiraz, accompanied by freshly baked potbrood and a delectable snoek pate. Next, you take on the role of wine maker as you blend the varietals to create your very own bottle of personalized wine that you get to take home with you. There’s no better souvenir of Stellenbosch! Don’t leave without grabbing lunch at the winery’s Boerebraai Restaurant, where you’ll be treated to an authentic South African braai (barbeque), including perfectly grilled lamb and sausage, as well as incredibly tasty pumpkin fritters and Braaibroodjies (barbecued cheese and tomato sandwiches).

Weltevreden Estate Winery

This historic boutique winery, renown for its line of bold Bertha wines, offers something for every interest and age range. The most popular experience is the handmade macaron and wine pairing, which allows visitors to indulge in a delightful fusion of flavors. The winery is also home to the exceptional Jonkershuis restaurant, where guests can savor elevated cuisine in a friendly atmosphere. Families with young kids won’t want to miss the Kids Carnival area, providing an entertaining space for children to enjoy while their parents explore the estate’s acclaimed outdoor art collection.

Stellenbosch is best discovered via walking tour so you can see first hand the lovely Cape Dutch ... [+] architecture, art scene and lively street life.

Stellenbosch On Foot

Stellenbosch is not just the name of an acclaimed wine region, it’s also a beautiful city with a fascinating history and vibrant art and food scene. It’s worth spending the time to get to know this bucolic university town and one of the best ways to do so is via a walking tour. Led by knowledgeable guides like Juliana, Stellenbosch on Foot offers a historic tour that gives participants an intimate look at Stellenbosch's stately, oak-lined avenues, interesting historic personalities and iconic Cape Dutch architecture.

As you stroll through the "village of the oaks," your enthusiastic guide shares fascinating stories and insights into one of South Africa’s key historic urban centers. Guides also freely dispense insider advice on the best not-to-be-missed eateries, local shops and picturesque streets during the pleasant promenade. Art-focused walking tours (Stellenbosch is one of the country’s premier art centers and has stunning displays peppered throughout) are also available.

Kayamandi Township Tour

Discover a different side to Stellenbosch as you explore Kayamandi, the second oldest township in the country. The walking tour of Kayamandi, which means "nice home" in Xhosa, is done with a local guide and provides guests with a unique insight into the area’s complex and dynamic history and culture. Highlights include street art, the chance to meet local entrepreneurs and sampling traditional foods. Also considering signing up for the Djembe drumming session.

It may be worth hiring a professional driver to navigate South Africa's most celebrated wine region.

Oswald Tours

When visiting the winelands, it’s important to keep in mind that there is no viable public transportation and renting a car can be difficult for those who want to go on several wine tastings and are not used to driving on the left side of the road. That where Oswald Tours comes in. The company offers affordable and reliable personalized chauffeur services, ensuring that you can enjoy your wine tastings and explore the region in comfort. Their knowledgeable, friendly drivers (like Francois) are equally as skilled at driving safely as they are at providing insightful and engaging commentary about the wine region’s' rich history and culture. The company also offer airport pickups, as well as a variety of pre-set tours like Cape Town and whale watching.

South America Tours & Holidays

A Bolivian llama among the cactus in South America

Colourful, candid and everything in-between. South America beats to the rhythm of an infectious, eternal drum.

It’s the sequined heat of Carnival and a cool breeze blowing across the Andes, a fiery Argentine tango and the soft silence of an Ecuadorian cloud forest. You taste it in the crackle of slow-cooked barbecue and the tang of a good pisco sour. About the only thing the continent lacks is monotony. From the rocky slopes of Galapagos to the dawn-lit ruins of Machu Picchu , South America is effervescent with sights, sounds and salsa. Now, pass the empanadas and let's talk adventure.

This U.S. City Was Just Named the Best Place to Live for Low Cost of Living

Hint: it's in Indiana.

south america travel excursions

DenisTangneyJr/Getty Images

With inflation and mortgage rates straining Americans' finances and plans to buy a home, many are looking to relocate to communities with lower housing and living costs. States like New York, California, and Illinois are losing residents to South Carolina, Texas, and Idaho, where people can still get more bang for their buck without compromising their standard of life or job opportunities. But if affordability is truly a top priority for you, consider moving to South Bend, Indiana, which just topped Niche.com's list of cities with the lowest cost of living in America.

South Bend, which is located on St. Joseph River in Northern Indiana and is home to about 103,000 residents, received an overall grade of A- based on its performance in several categories, such as housing, jobs, diversity, and cost of living. According to Zillow, the median home value in South Bend is $169,000, or over $200,000 below the country's average, and the median rent is $935, which is also lower than the national average of $1,268. In addition, the overall cost of living, which takes into account expenses such as groceries, transportation, clothing, and utilities, is 18 percent lower than the national average.

South Bend is home to the University of Notre Dame, which has left its mark on the city's social life. It offers tons of recreational activities, restaurants, bars, sports, and arts events. Those seeking a more active lifestyle closer to nature will also thrive here, as there are dozens of parks and hiking trails. Howard Park, for example, along the St Joseph River, boasts 13 acres of facilities, including a playground and an ice trail.

South Bend's job market received a B from Niche.com, and its commute — an A. According to the Bureau of Labor, the unemployment rate in the city in February 2024 was 4.7 percent, with education, healthcare, and manufacturing among the top industries with the largest employment in the area.

However, the city's lowest scores were in the crime and safety (D+) and weather (C) categories, as South Bend records more violent and property crimes per capita than the nation's average

Another city in Indiana made it to the top three list of the most affordable places in the country, and that's Evansville, which ranked third. Second was Brownsville in southern Texas on the Gulf of Mexico.

2024 United States Mint American Eagle Gold Proof Coins on Sale May 2

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) announces the opening of sales for the 2024 American Eagle Gold Proof Coins on May 2 at noon EDT. Orders are limited to three items per product code per household for the first 24 hours from the on-sale date and time.

Struck in 22-karat gold at the United States Mint facility at West Point, these popular coins are collector versions of the official United States Mint American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins. In 2021, for the first time since their introduction more than three decades before, the reverse (tails) of American Eagle Gold Proof Coins debuted a newly designed portrayal of an eagle, created by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Designer Jennie Norris and sculpted by United States Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” along with the face value and weight.

The coins’ obverse (heads) features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ full-length figure of Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. To render a closer reflection of Saint-Gaudens’ original vision, legacy details of the obverse design also were restored in 2021, including modifications to the U.S. Capitol Building, stars, torch, sun rays, and other design elements based on the original bronze cast.

In addition to redesigning the reverse and enhancing design details on the obverse of these coins in 2021, the Mint introduced anti-counterfeiting features that include a reeded edge variation on the one ounce coin.

The 2024 American Eagle Gold Proof Coins will be available in the following five product options:

*The product limit is the total available for each individual product.

**The mintage limit represents the total number of coins produced for this denomination, including those contained in the American Eagle Gold Proof Four-Coin Set.

The individual coins are encapsulated, packaged in a black presentation case, and housed in a box with the United States Mint seal on the lid. The box fits into an outer sleeve with a beautiful gold foil image of Liberty. Coins and sets are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity with matching imagery.

American Eagle Gold Proof Coins are priced according to the range in which they appear on the Mint’s Pricing of Numismatic Gold, Commemorative Gold, and Platinum and Palladium Products table. Current pricing information is available here . These prices may be updated on a weekly basis on Wednesdays, based on the precious metals market. A detailed explanation about the Mint’s pricing strategy is available at https://catalog.usmint.gov/faqs-faqcategory-products-programs/payment-processing-charges-pricing.html .

I absolutely loved the tour on all dimensions. Our tour guide Jairo was amazing and just made Colombia feel like home. He was very agile in responding to new dynamics despite the COVID-19 situation and made sure that we all had an impeccable experience. Colombia is also a beautiful country that is full of gems to see and experience, beautiful people and a cheerful spirit that overwhelms you wherever you go. The country's attention to hygiene is exemplary and made me feel safe traveling during COVID-19 times. It has been a great experience overall and I will highly recommend this tour to my friends.

This was a really good trip - small group, entertaining leader, lots of fun. I'd suggest to arrive early to spend a bit more time in Buenos Aires. The best part was Iguazu Falls. We got to spend ample time at both sides of the Falls, which was fantastic as each side provided different views. Arraial do Cabo was a nice surprise - we were the only foreign tourists there so it was a more "authentic" experience. And of course Rio was as beautiful as I expected.

Argentina, Atacama & Andes - 20 days

Fast-paced and hitting many of the highlights of South America in a manageable timeframe. Highly recommended. Hotels were decent and individual (no bland chains here!) and the guide was extremely knowledgeable and personalised the tour throughout to things that those in the group were interested in specifically. It was a small group (6) and a perfect match between group activity and then free time to explore places in the way you wanted to. A memorable experience and the landscapes in NW Argentina, Chile and Bolivia are unsurpassed globally in my opinion!

Excellent. Thanks ☺️
This was an amazing itinerary! I was a single female traveler and felt safe at all times. I had the best group guide Martin, who was super friendly, knowledgeable & went above and beyond to show us a great time. I have a lot of dietary restrictions & Martin really tried his best to accommodate me, I am so grateful. Unfortunately I had an emergency & had to leave on day 4 so my trip was disrupted. I would love to return to Columbia in the future. This was an action packed itinerary. I highly recommend this tour & tour guide Martin to anyone who is active & loves to explore.
