We had a great time on this tour. Our tour guide took us on a spiritual journey. She was a spine tingling informative guide. She dressed the part to make the history that much more interesting. The male tour guide taught us about L Rods and Finding ghosts. It was so informative and very interactive. We'll be sure bring the kids the next time we come. I honestly would recommend this tour and am sure you would very much enjoy it.

Photo of Mark B.

I can't imagine a worse tour. My girlfriend loves ghost hunter type shows and I enjoy some of them. I would have just walked away midway through the tour but stuck it out for my girlfriend. She later told me she would have been fine with leaving to. Not to be completely negative the hosts of the tour were a friendly couple and readily answered any questions we had. The tour consist mainly of walking around town and stopping in front of the older buildings and telling us their history. One bit of constructive criticism here. The tour would be much more interesting if we would have actually gotten to go into these buildings. Also several of their "ghost hunter tools" appeared to be apps they downloaded and used their iPhone to utilize. Now I'm not a professional ghost hunter myself but I'm a little hesitant to believe a iPhone is a ghost hunting device. Your other home made ghost hunting devices with there flashing lights were more interesting. I think this tour in this town has a lot of potential but as it stands now it's just boring.

Wow so thank you for that review. We will make sure to work hard at not being boring.SIC We do also remember you very kindly in our Hearts when you wanted to go back into the Sultana and have some more to Drink ! "Now I'm not a professional ghost hunter myself but I'm a little hesitant to believe a iPhone is a ghost hunting device." Dusty's Scientific response : Applications in Cell phones use the same technology that Nikolai Tesla created the Emf Electronic Magnetic Field readers theses readers work on Radio frequency so Android and Iphones do work well and since we had specially made Apps made exclusively for our tour Android phone's magnetic sensor to read local electromagnetic field and record any anomalous activity They seem to be working just fine since they have Radio in them ! Our suggestion is Go to Disneyland when you want things to jump out at you and chase you like those "Fake shows" you kept talking about all night. Sorry the Ghosts were so bored with you that night. We have good news because of you we have stepped up our pace and now make it very Light hearted not so scientific so, guess you were supposed to be on the tour that night again sorry for your bad experience Hauntingly yours Dusty Rose & T Bonez Thanks for your Feedback

Photo of Ellie V.

Interesting that Dusty Rose criticized me for being "busy being bored" when actually I probably asked the most questions and was the most engaged of our tour group. I was paying attention and most of the time was at the front of the pack. I tried every activity they suggested, and participated in the trivia. My boredom wasn't due to me not trying to have a good time, or not paying attention. I was excited about the tour. My efforts wained as the tour dragged on. And I noticed I wasn't the only one who looked bored. There were people who didn't participate, and there were people that would flat-out walk away while Dusty or T-Bonez were talking. Also funny that another reviewer complained that he couldn't imagine a worse tour and also found it boring... So I'm not the only weirdo out there that thought the tour could have been better. Dusty Rose would rather criticize her guests for not paying attention (which for me was not the case) than either: A. take the criticism to heart and thoughtfully evaluate if she should adjust her tour, or B. stick to her guns and clarify that their tour isn't for everyone, and make sure that her marketing materials do a better job conveying what the tour is like, so she can make sure that people know what they're getting into. Really I think two stars was generous. After seeing Dusty's passive-aggressive response to both me and the one-star reviewer, I thought about changing my review to one star, too. Really? Complaining about someone who decides to remove themselves from having a bad time? But then again, who cares? It's a Yelp review.

We want to thank you for you very in depth review and we have since taken all into consideration since we started this tour 2006 and have been growing since once in in a awhile someone like you hops on and just cant be entertained. and was not really INTO the tour in the first place. While you were busy being Bored "T" Bonez always explains how all the Equipment works and how ghosts are in a field of Frequency much like being underwater .. but I remember you not interacting when given the opportunity to hold the "Y" rod and ask yes or no questions to "Becky" in back of the Opium Den . we make it clear on our Website for years now we do not endorse seances nor Ouija boards and such so your interpretation is as always YOURS . However we respect your opinions but, do not agree and work very hard to bring history and a little chill to the night . We want to take this time to thank you for your in depth feed back. We are always working on bettering our tour and cant do that with out people like you ! hauntingly yours, Dusty and T Bonez Still here and in 2006-2015 and beyond ........ MORE LIKE "GHOST ADVENTURES" not everyone's cup of tea I guess Cheers

This was the WORST ghost tour I've ever been on. A good ghost tour (to me) weaves together history, anecdotes, and ghost tales. You learn about the town and culture in addition to its deceased residents. London Walks is the gold standard for this type of tour, but I've enjoyed ghost tours in Savannah and Galveston, too. This tour, however, has more the feeling of Ghost Hunters type experience. The tour guide, Dusty Rose, is a clairvoyant. She tells convoluted tales about her run-ins with ghosts, and uses equipment to communicate with them so we can get a "taste" of what "her world" is like. Dusty Rose and her husband T-Bonez didn't bother explaining *how* the equipment is supposed to work. So we'd end up gathered around devices waiting for lights to blink or words to appear, or to hear voices speak mysterious words. They also talked about having "loads" or "tons" of pictures from previous tour-goers who captured ghosts on their cameras. Most of these "tons" of pictures we never actually saw. Overall, the tour was just boring. The tour ended with us gathered in a "certified" haunted building having a seance of sorts. We sat there and listened as Dusty Rose kept shouting at the ghost, trying to get him to say something. We kept hearing the ghost say words through the equipment. I furtively looked around the room, and everyone just looked tired or bored. It was really sad. So if you like the Ghost Hunters experience, this is the tour for you. If you're looking for entertaining stories, fun history lessons, and learning about a sweet little town, skip it.

Photo of Karen H.

My husband, parents and myself really enjoyed this tour. We appreciated the history aspect more so than the ghost hunting even though I caught a "ghost" on my camera. Dusty and TBonez know much about the town and share many interesting stories about the history and characters of Williams. The couple are lovely and really seem to love their home of Williams.

Thank you so very much! We are so glad you had a good time ! If we entertained you and brought a smile maybe a goosebump or two to you we have done our job well thank you again ! Would love to see you again maybe next year. We are always finding new stories and experiences to add to the tour . Look for" The Haunted Train" next year Hauntingly Yours, Dusty Rose and T Bonez

THE STEAMPUNK GHOST TOURS (Williams) - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go

Looking for a paranormal experience? Check out these haunted hotels on your next trip to northern Arizona

williams az ghost tour

Ghost hunters have long claimed northern Arizona boasts a unique history of paranormal encounters — especially in some of the region's oldest hotels.

The spirits of former staff, famous guests, pets and more are reported to still roam the halls and interact with guests. But luckily for today's visitors, most of the spirits are reported to be friendly.

If you're looking for a unique experience on your next visit to northern Arizona, consider a stop at one of these hotels that some have claimed over the years are haunted.

Hassayampa Inn, Prescott

Most of the paranormal encounters reported at the Hassayampa Inn involve a ghost named Faith.

Legend has it Faith and her new husband checked into the hotel to celebrate their honeymoon. When her husband left to buy a pack of cigarettes and never returned, Faith waited for him for three days before eventually taking her own life. But, many say, Faith never truly left the hotel.

Guests and employees have reported hearing crying throughout the hotel and noticed the disappearance of random objects over the years. Others have reported feeling cold spots in the honeymoon suite where the smell of flowers often emanates from the empty room. Some people have even reported seeing Faith’s spirit in the form of a translucent shadow donned in a pink gown, and on rare occasions, holding a bouquet of flowers. Notably, Faith never threatens during her encounters.

While Faith may have never left, the Hassayampa Inn has been upgraded with modern amenities since first opening in 1927. Today’s guests can enjoy a variety of room options as well as the on-site Peacock Dining Room, a glass bar and a fitness center. Dogs up to 45 pounds also stay for free. The hotel also offers a variety of special packages including at the Stoneridge Golf Course and with Angry Ape Off-Road Adventures.

Hotel Monte Vista, Flagstaff

Located just off Historic Route 66 in downtown Flagstaff, Hotel Monte Vista has long been known for rumors of haunting with a cast of characters each with their own unique backstory.

The Meat Man in room 220 was a long-term boarder known for his habit of hanging raw meat from the chandelier. He reportedly died in the room and his body was found three days later. Soon after, a maintenance worker reported returning to the room to find the television on at full volume and the linens on the bed had been ripped and scattered throughout the room. Today, it is common for the television to act on its own and some guests report feeling cold hands touching them in their sleep.

On the third floor, room 305 is known as the most active room in the hotel. Numerous people have reported seeing a woman in the rocking chair near the window. Legend has it that an elderly woman and long-term renter would sit by the window for hours.

Appearances of the Women of the Night are connected to room 306, where two prostitutes were killed and thrown from the third floor to the street below in the early 1940s. In the years since numerous guests have reported being awakened in the middle of the night and unable to return to sleep because they have an overwhelming feeling of being watched. Some male guests also report the feeling of having hands placed over their mouths and throats before awakening unable to breathe.

Guests also might hear an unexpected knock at the door and a muffled voice announcing “room service” courtesy of The Phantom Bellboy. But when guests open the door, no one is there. Some people have reported seeing the figure of a bellboy standing outside of room 210, including legendary actor John Wayne during a few of his stays at the hotel. Wayne reported that the ghost seemed friendly.

Today’s guests can enjoy modern amenities in a variety of different room options while they seek out their own paranormal experience. Visitors can also enjoy the Monte Vista Cocktail Lounge, the first speakeasy in Flagstaff, where the ghosts of a dancing couple have frequently been reported on the dance floor.

Jerome Grand Hotel

The Jerome Grand Hotel is a well-known hotspot for alleged paranormal encounters with frequent visits from ghost hunters and other enthusiasts looking for proof ghosts exist. The site was the former home of the United Verde Hospital where nearly 9,000 people are reported to have died before the hospital closed in 1950. After sitting unused for more than 40 years, the hotel opened for business in 1996.

Guests have often reported seeing the ghosts of a doctor carrying a clipboard, a female nurse and a female patient in a gown wandering the halls together.

Notably, not all spirits at the hotel are human — the ghost of a cat also allegedly lives in the building. Guests have reported feeling the cat brush up against their legs, purring meowing and scratching at doors. A guest was able to capture a clear photo of the cat sitting at a table in 2008, and the photo is kept at the front desk alongside other photos of ghosts.

Perhaps the best-known spirit people have reported seeing at the Jerome Grand Hotel is the ghost of Claude Harvey, a hospital maintenance worker who died in 1935 under mysterious circumstances when his body was found pinned under the elevator. Harvey was believed to have been murdered. He appears as a shadow against the wall, but nobody has reported seeing a full apparition.

Much of the current hotel harkens back to its history including still being serviced by the original 1926 Otis elevator and the 1926 Kewanee Boiler to provide steam heat throughout the building.

In between ghost encounters, guests can enjoy their stay in a variety of modern rooms and have lunch and dinner on-site at the award-winning Asylum Restaurant during their visit.

Oatman Hotel

Alongside the famous burros roaming the area, the Oatman Hotel is one of the best-known buildings in the small town along Route 66. The hotel was originally built in 1902 and survived three major fires that nearly destroyed the town over the course of just a few years. Today, the Oatman Hotel is a well-known destination for paranormal enthusiasts and welcomes curious visitors from far and wide.

The ghost of an Irishman known as Oatie has been known to pull sheets off the beds and open the window of his old room. Legend has it that Oatie, a miner who lived at the hotel, drank too much one night and collapsed behind the hotel where he was later found dead. Visitors report that Oatie can often be heard playing the bagpipe around the building.

Some of the hotel’s more famous alleged spirits include Clark Gable and his wife Carole Lombard who stayed at the hotel during their honeymoon in 1939 and are believed to still inhabit their honeymoon suite. The couple has been caught whispering to each other and laughing together in the suite.

The second floor houses a Theater Room Museum where distinct outlines of sleeping bodies have been found in the dust on the beds — sightings that have been attributed to a former chambermaid. In the downstairs bar, spirits often lift money off the bar and raise glasses into the air.

While the hotel no longer provides overnight accommodations for guests, visitors can still enjoy a bar and restaurant on the ground floor and a museum on the upper floors.

TRIPADVISOR'S #1 GHOST TOWN TOUR IN JEROME!

a close up of a toy

The tour was excellent. The tour guide was a local lady, Amanda, and she was great and lots of fun. Her knowledge of Jerome was very good. I would highly recommend this tour.

This tour was full of information! It was so much fun to walk around and learn about Jerome’s history. There are plaques around town with information, but the tour guide provided much more! Very highly recommended.

Our tour guide was awesome. She truly has a passion for her town, and enjoys telling it. We took the tour during the day, and I would definitely want to come back for a night tour someday.

We had a great time. Our guide was very personable, enthusiastic and made it a fun experience. The tour was very informative with a mix of history and ghost hunting. I would definitely recommend this tour!

Our tour guide was wonderful! Not only did she know the "ghost" stories, but she had an incredible knowledge of the history of Jerome and how it came to be. Didn't find any ghosts, but the searching was the fun part. Highly recommend!

Hidden Gems

5 secret ghost towns in arizona.

These abandoned towns offer a glimpse into the state's rich history—and make for the perfect spooky season day trip.

Chances are you've probably heard people mention Jerome and Bisbee when talking about ghost towns in Arizona. But with their established population and stable tourism flow, they're more "town" than "ghost."

With literally thousands of abandoned mines and surrounding communities throughout Arizona, there are plenty of lesser-known ghost towns to check out. Below is a list of five abandoned towns that are rich in history and offer a lot for the curious explorer.

Best Arizona ghost town near Phoenix: Tip Top

Where to find it: About 50 miles north of Phoenix

"She's a tip-top silver mine," said prospector Jack Moore to his partner Bill Corning in 1875. The pair set out south from the town of Prescott trying to get to Castle Hot Springs when they stumbled upon some rich minerals. Later, the town quickly shot to a population of about 1,200, and the men were earning up to 1,000 ounces of silver per ton of ore.

Between 1876 and 1884, Tip Top was one of the three most active mining towns in Arizona (the other two being Tombstone and Wickenburg). The town boomed. At its peak in the late 1880s, Tip Top had six saloons, three stores, four restaurants, a school and the first brewery in Arizona.

In 1895, less than a decade later, the town fizzled out. A brief revival attempt was made in 1910, but by the onset of World War I the town was abandoned. Today, the ruins at Tip Top stretch nearly two miles along Cottonwood Creek. There are dozens of buildings in various states of ruin, an old headframe and several tunnels still left. Note: As of April 2019, this site is no longer open to the public. Arizona doesn't lack ghost towns, however. We'll update this list soon with another site we've been saving.

Best Arizona ghost town for camping: Kentucky Camp

Where to find it: 40 miles south of Tucson

Kentucky Camp's story begins in 1874. After finding gold nearby and the population surged to more than 500 miners. Migrants from back east named gulches in the area after their respective homes, giving Kentucky Camp its name.

By the 1880s, most of the gold deposits ran out, and the population thinned almost as quickly as it had grown. In 1904, the Santa Rita Water & Mining Company (SRW&MC) built the current buildings at Kentucky Camp but abandoned the camp in 1910 after struggling to stay afloat following the tragic death of its founder in 1905.

In 1989, the U.S. Forest Service took (USFS) ownership of the land. It's since become a popular place for mountain bikers and runners seeking a quiet trail with wide-open space.

Visitors can camp on the site with the right permits; however, Kentucky Camp also is unique in that you can rent one of two cabins for $75 a night as part of the USFS program, "Rooms with a View."

Best Arizona ghost town for exploring historic buildings: Swansea

Where to find it: 30 miles east of Parker, near the Arizona-California border

Swansea is a well-preserved ghost town in western Arizona under preservation by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

Named after the Welsh hometown of founder George Mitchell, Swansea's serious mining operations began in the mid-1880s. By 1909, a post office was established and the town swelled to a population of 750. Just a year later, the first railroad arrived from Bouse , connecting Swansea to the rest of the world. The town had the normal saloons and restaurants but also featured a car dealership, theater and an electric light company.

Because of the dry surroundings, water had to be hauled in via pipeline almost four miles from the Bill Williams River to the north. Unfortunately, Mitchell overpromoted the town, which led to its quick demise. Swansea was on-and-off until the Great Depression when it finally closed.

Today, dozens of buildings and structures remain to be explored, and it continues to be one of the best ghost towns in the state.

Best Arizona ghost town with a cemetery: Agua Caliente

Where to find it: About 120 miles southwest of Phoenix

The Pioneer Cemetary in Agua Caliente, Arizona

Unlike typical Arizona ghost towns based around mining, Agua Caliente ("hot water" in Spanish) was built around a natural hot spring and a stagecoach line. The natural hot spring in the area had been used by American Indians and later by travelers along the Butterfield Overland Mail Route in the early 1860s.

Pioneer King S. Woolsey owned the Agua Caliente Ranch. By the year 1897, a 22-room resort was built, complete with a swimming pool fed by the hot springs. Many used the resort for its healing properties, but farming in the area ultimately sucked the springs dry.

Visitors to the site now can see the remains of the hotel, several other stone buildings, and the Agua Caliente Pioneer Cemetery.

Best Arizona ghost town along Route 66: Hackberry

Where to find it: 28 miles northeast of Kingman in northern Arizona

Today, Hackberry is an iconic Route 66 stop for many travelers, but the town originated in 1874 as a silver mining destination.

The initial mining helped to develop the town but the claims quickly played out and the area was reduced to a ghost town. When Route 66 was constructed, the town was revived with several service stations. Bad luck returned when Interstate 40 came along, and the town was once again reduced to almost nothing.

With the re-opening of the Hackberry General Store in 1992 as a Route 66 information center, the town's population slowly rebounded as did the number of Route 66 travelers, but it still retains that "ghost town" charm today.

  15. Haunted Places in Williams, Arizona
