England FTP

England's FTP announced

England play arch-rivals Australia and India in two five-Test series each in the Men’s Future Tours Programme (FTP) for the period 2023-27 that was confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) today.

The announcement of the FTP, a result of a collective effort of Full Members with ICC’s support, ensures certainty of cricket fixtures with the confirmation of all bilateral series across the three formats. The exact dates and venues of the series are for the Members to announce in due course.

England’s first outing in the upcoming FTP will be a home Test against Ireland in June next year, which will be followed by their first-five Test series of the cycle against Australia from June to August 2023. Their five-Test commitments are against India in an away series in January-February 2024 and at home in June-July 2025. They tour Australia for the next Ashes showdown starting November 2025 for five Tests.

England also tour Pakistan for three Tests in October-November 2024, followed by a three-Test tour of New Zealand. All these series will be part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), two cycles of which will figure during the FTP – 2023-25 and 2025-27.

England feature in limited overs series against Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and the West Indies apart from Test series both part of and outside of the WTC.

WTC Series: England play Australia, Sri Lanka and the West Indies at home in the 2023-25 WTC and are scheduled to play India, New Zealand and Pakistan in away series. In the 2025-27 WTC, England play India, New Zealand and Pakistan at home while Australia, Bangladesh and South Africa will host them.

The announcement of the Men’s FTP comes a day after the first ever Women’s FTP was announced.

ICC GM of Cricket Wasim Khan said: “I’d like to thank our Members for the effort that has gone into creating this FTP for the next four years. We are incredibly lucky to have three vibrant formats of the game, with an outstanding programme of ICC global events and strong bilateral and domestic cricket and this FTP is designed to allow all cricket to flourish.

“The landscape around the game is continuing to evolve and we will work closely with Members as we collectively adapt to that. We are committed to growing the game and giving more fans more opportunities to enjoy cricket, but are very mindful of the need to balance that ambition with the welfare of players.”

ECB Interim CEO Claire Connor said she was thrilled that both FTPs had now been announced.

Clare Connor, ECB Interim CEO, said: “These Future Tour Programmes set out the international cricket we’ll be playing over the coming years. There is so much for supporters to look forward to across Test and white ball cricket, home and away.

“With the increased number of domestic white ball competitions and the introduction of an annual global tournament in men’s cricket, creating an international schedule has never been harder. We must continue to work together as international Boards to manage these challenges, look after our players’ welfare, and ensure a sustainable future for international cricket which we and so many players and supporters love and cherish.

“I’m particularly thrilled that for the first time we have been able to build a Future Tours Programme for women’s cricket, bolstered by a white ball global event each year. This is testament to the rapid growth and professionalisation of the women’s game and we must all keep giving it greater priority to inspire girls and women in this country and around the world to genuinely feel that cricket is a game for them.”

Indian cricket in 2023: Full list of schedule, fixtures, matches, series and tournaments

The indian team will kickstart 2023 with a three-match t20i series against sri lanka. check out the full schedule of the men's team here..

Team India had a rather indifferent year in 2022; it began with India's Test series defeat against South Africa following which Virat Kohli stepped down as captain in the longest format, and while India's performances in the bilateral series remained strong as ever, they failed to translate that form in global events. At the 2022 T20 World Cup, the Rohit Sharma -led Indian team faced a 10-wicket loss in the semi-final of the marquee tournament to eventual champions England.

Virat Kohli; Rohit Sharma; Hardik Pandya(ANI/AP)

The year saw a number of debuts and multiple captains in the side across formats, owing to injuries and rest to senior players; and as the year ended, Hardik Pandya was given the leadership in T20Is for the series against Sri Lanka with all of the side's top-3 – KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli – missing from the squad for the shortest format.

India did end 2022 on a strong note at the World Test Championship as they solidified their second spot in the table with a 2-0 clean sweep series win against Bangladesh. But the new year brings new tests and the side will be aiming to keep its form intact for the upcoming challenges.

India’s Future Tour Programme (FTP) for 2023-27:

As far as Indian FTP is concerned. The elite Border-Gavaskar Trophy has now become a five-Test series, which used to be a four-test affair. India will tour Down Under in 2024-25 to play the five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy. Meanwhile, before that, Australia is due to visit India to regain the lost BGT next year, which is apparently part of the ongoing FTP.

India will also play five-test match series with England in the next scheduled FTP in early 2024. Meanwhile, the T20I fixtures have also become a five-match affair to cater to the broadcaster’s demand.

The Indian team is also scheduled to visit West Indies for an all-format tour in July-Aug 2024. The two sides will play two Tests, as many ODIs and 3 T20Is.

Meanwhile, the number of ODI matches have been dropped significantly with the decrease in consumption. The ODI series that used to be a five-match series have now been curtained to three matches only.

"Dare to dream" – Riyan Parag reacts to his maiden national call for India's tour of Zimbabwe

R ajasthan Royals (RR) all-rounder Riyan Parag was over the moon as he earned a maiden national call-up. He has been picked in the 15-member India squad for the upcoming five-match match T20I series in Zimbabwe next month. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the highly-anticipated squad on Monday, June 24.

The national call came as Parag impressed with the bat in the latest edition of the Indian Premier League. The right-hander amassed 573 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 149.22, including four half-centuries.

Sharing a post on X (formerly Twitter), Parag wrote:

"Dare to dream."

Overall, Parag has 1173 runs in 69 IPL matches at a strike rate of 135.14, including six half-centuries. The part-time leg-spinner has also scalped four wickets in 29.1 overs bowled in the T20 league.

"I'm going to play for the country sooner or later" – Riyan Parag

Earlier this year, Riyan Parag said that he would play for Team India sooner or later while playing in the Ranji Trophy. The 22-year-old said (via Hindustan Times):

"I'm going to play for the country sooner or later, that belief is always there. No one can take that away from me. I'm fixated on that but I don't have any particular target that I have to get this many runs in Ranji or in the IPL."

During IPL 2024, RR's Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara also backed Parag to play for India in the future. He said (via India Today):

"His potential is there for everyone to see. For him, it is about concentrating about Rajasthan and this season. Whatever happens will happen after that. You shouldn't be too ahead of yourself in terms of looking things too ahead in the future. He is working very hard, batting really well. And if he continues to do that, good things will happen."

Riyan Parag will now look to carry his IPL 2024 form in international cricket.

The five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe will be played at the Harare Sports Club, with matches scheduled for July 6, 7, 10, 13 and 14, respectively. All matches will begin at 4.30pm IST (1 PM local time).

India's squad for T20I series against Zimbabwe : Ꮪhubman Gill (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma , Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Tushar Deshpande .

Sony Pictures Networks India Confirms Disney+ Hotstar Content Chief Gaurav Banerjee as Managing Director and CEO

Gaurav Banerjee

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has confirmed Gaurav Banerjee as its new managing director and CEO. He will take the reins on or before Aug. 26, pending approvals.

Banerjee will step into the shoes of N.P. Singh, who’s signing off after a 25-year run at the company. Singh will move into the role of non-executive chair to support the transition through the end of the financial year.

Banerjee said: “Under N.P. Singh ‘s remarkable leadership, SPNI has achieved tremendous success and innovation in the entertainment industry. I am excited to lead talented teams as we explore new frontiers in original programming, enhance our viewers’ experiences, drive our distribution footprint across India, and significantly boost our revenues. Together, we will set new benchmarks in entertainment and deliver exceptional value to our audiences and stakeholders.”

Singh added: “I am immensely proud of the success and innovation SPNI has achieved. I am confident that Gaurav will elevate SPNI’s impressive portfolio to new heights. His visionary approach will undoubtedly continue our legacy of excellence and creativity. I look forward to supporting him and our talented team as we further our impact in content creation, audience engagement, and digital media initiatives. And most importantly, I would like to thank the entire SPNI team for being the fulcrum of our growth and success.”

The move comes just a few months after the collapse of Sony’s previously amicable deal to merge its Indian film, TV and streaming businesses with those of Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL). Had the deal gone through, it would have led to the establishment of a large, content-rich new player in the TV and streaming space that may have been able to compete strongly with the emerging colossus of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries and its Viacom18-JioCinema nexus.

The merger deal had been in negotiations for more than two years. It officially started in December 2021, gained necessary regulatory approvals along the way, but ended acrimoniously in Jan. 2024 when Sony walked away.

Sony said at the time that certain conditions had not been met. Both parties are now seeking financial recompense from the other.

Despite the collapse of the merger, Sony has put significant emphasis on expansion in India, a youth-driven and expanding market, which in many ways is the opposite of its native Japan. Singh was regarded as a safe pair of hands and was expected by many in the industry to oversee Sony’s next growth steps in the country. He was a featured speaker at Sony Group Corporation’s annual strategy presentation in 2023.
